Have been diagnosed with dry eyes also having mites which has been a challenge to get rid of. I’m using Retaine complete also eye lid solution with Hypochlorous acid the mask for glands to function better. I’ve been using these for more than 1 year and has helped the dry eyes but I still feel itchy on the lids and eyebrows which I feel are the mites! What do you recommend to get rid of them once and for all! Drives me nuts! Thank you!

I’ve been wearing Acuvue dailies off and on for a year. They don’t seem to dry out my eyes as much as other brands, but a lot of times one of them will become suddenly blurry and so annoying. I have to open my eyes wide and move them around in all directions for a few minutes to get the contact to be clear again. Sometimes I have to change it out. I am thinking this is a stability issue now. Is there a daily contact similar that it doesn’t dry out your eyes, but can be more stable? I’ve worn contacts for 23 years now. Astigmatism was diagnosed about 5 years ago.

here is a tip that might exist on internet but I discovered it myself to stop you from poking yourself in the eye with the nozzle.
Hold out your hand (I’m right handed) and then extent your index finger horizontally so that it is pointing to your left.
Now take the applicator and position it so that the tip of the nozzle is just below the top edge of your finger (around 1-2 mm below the top edge)
When you now apply the drops, you will feel your finger against your eyelashes. Your finger tells you therefore like cats whiskers that you are just above the eye and the 1-2 mm “safeguard” stops the nozzle from actually touching your eye.

Refresh Optive & Refresh Plus are both Preservative free. What is the difference? Costco sales Refresh Plus with 100 Viles and others stores only go up to 60 on the OPTIVE. Both Online after some research are recommended for Dry Eye and for Contact use. Is it ok to just get the PLUS? Hoping for a response!

I wear scleral lenses what would be the best for dry eyes? I have a lot of dryness and soreness. I want to use ones with a touch of mineral oil but they cloud up lenses. I find I have to use thicker drops to last longer and not have to apply so frequently.

Hi. I have been wearing contacts for around 5 years with no issues at all. Over the past 8/9 months I have had problems with the contact lens in my right eye. I have been changing lenses (supplied by Specsavers UK) but nothing has solved the problem. When I put the contact lens in the right eye it just feels like something is on my eye and there is irrigation. It also feel dry and when the wind blows I can only feel it in my right eye and not my left. I have been so frustrated over these past few months because I hate wearing glasses. I have stopped wearing contacts for the past 2 weeks because they said my tear film in the right eye was thinner. I had to apply eye drops 3 times a time but 2 weeks later and I still have the same problem! When I take the contact lens out it still feels like there is something in my eye or something is irritating it and this has been happening for 8/9 months. Do you have any ideas?

I need help. Need to transit from frequency 55/frequency Xcel toric to some newer some other CooperVision but they all have different BC/DIA and my ophthalmologist doesn’t work these days.

I have tried contact lenses for my astigmatism but I was always faced with discomfort. So I would end up buying them, wearing them a few times, then forgetting/avoiding them. Basically, wasting my money. My sister does not have astigmatism so whenever I said my vision was getting blurry after wearing lenses for a few hours, no one really believed me (>.<)! Blink is the only one I have tried, but I love t so much I have never needed to try another. One drop in the morning is usually enough to keep my eyes feeling great throughout the day. I would highly recommend it!

I just started my journey wit wearing contacts. It took 2 weeks to find ones that fit most comfortable and that work for me. The first ones I’ve tried were the biofinity, they were so uncomfortable due to my eyes feeling so dry because they didn’t stay moisturized throughout the day. The second ones I’ve tried and only for a few minutes were acuvue oasis they were horrible as well as it make my eyes feel so itchy and extremely uncomfortable and I had just put them in a few minutes ago in the clinic room. So they gave me Bausch and Lomb and let me tell you. These were the best ones, best comfort the only complaint I have is sometimes it looks like there’s a slight glare sometimes and these were specifically for my astigmatism so I thought it was supposed to fix it.

When you talk about rinsing the contact is this with water or the contact solution?

Curious if you prefer the Bausch and Lomb Ultra over the Air Optix Hydraglyde? I have been using the Air Optix but the Bausch and Lomb has been recommended and don’t know if I should change to the Ultra.

When soft lenses first came out, the solutions were all thimerosal based, so your eyes got long term exposure to toxic mercury. The alternative was hydrogen peroxide, which totally sterilizes the lens, but breaks down (with the catalyst in the container) to pure water and no chemicals in the lens or eye. The choice now really is the same: screw around proprietary chemicals? Or stick to peroxide, easily found in two big brands and many generics. I’ll stick with peroxide and no miracle games and claims.

i remember accidentally putting peroxide in my eye thinking it was normal solution, not a nice burn i can tell u. i did burn the top layer of my eye and luckily no permanent damage but i did get a eye cream and some other medication. So yeah i never use peroxide anymore xD

Hey doc, is it correct that an eye with a slight astigmatism is prone to dryness? I find that one of my eyes and in particular the inner part close to my nose is drier than the rest of the eye and other eye. I wear total 1 dailies and could easily wear one in my left eye for 16 hours but have to take them out after about 10 hours because my inner corner of my right eye gets uncomfortable and dry, when I blink it feels like my upper lid is ‘sticking’ and grabbing the lens. Very frustrating as I never had this issue with monthlies (wore them for 13 years) but am now allergic to them after suffering with gpc.

My daughter 17 was recommend to wear aero Optix only in her left eyes to correct vision…monthly wear…. would accuvue be a better choice for her? Again she only needs to wear one contact….my older children wear accuvue for both eyes…and swear there is no better brand? What are your thoughts?

Recently tried those Bausch and Lomb Ultra lenses and they were the most blurry and annoying contacts ever! Every blink would turn everything blurry and the glare was awful. As far as comfortability, they were alright. I did notice they felt moisturized for a longer period of time versus other brands I’ve tried before.

Hello Doctor, thank you so much for putting these videos out. I notice you are one of the few doing it. I do have dry eyes at night. I have been examined and my doctor felt my ducts were functioning normally. I asked if I could be sleeping with them partially opened and he said not likely and he did not recommend a mask to help keep them closed. Rather gave me several options for drops. I will incorporate the massage techniques and blinking exercises you mention, but wonder if my eyes are partially open at night, then will those help? i think systane is better than refresh. for some reason refresh brand gives my eyes slight irritation.

I’ve recently started using a new “hydraSense” brand eye drops. For me they work the best. and are all preservative-free. The bottles (10mL) have a special top that keeps them in good shape. I still like Systane Complete first thing in the morning upon waking. But if it’s hay fever season and I need them from other activities, I use the hydraSense in one of several viscosities depending on the condition. I use the thicker gel (night) drops or the allergy formula when my eyes are drier or more irritated or I get dust in my eyes.

I actually wear Air Optix Night and Day. My doctor put me on these lenses a few years ago after some blood vessels were getting dangerously close to my cornea. The high Dk/t value (175 if I remember correctly) certainly has stopped those blood vessels in their tracks. That said….I can only get a month’s usage in an indoor environment. I have to throw them out after two weeks during allergy season. I just came back from a 3-week trip that involved sleeping with the lenses for a total of 7 non-consecutive nights……and I had to throw the lenses out once I got home too. My eyes just get a lot of protein deposit?! I am getting some 1-day lens samples from my doctor and am looking forward to using daily disposable lenses. Oh, and if I am at home all day long, I wear glasses. Heck, if I am doing some mindless work such as folding laundry at home, I don’t even wear glasses so that my eyes can get 100% oxygen from the air.

My eyes are severely dry and I’ve tried numerous drops, gels, and ointments over the past several years. The absolute best eye drops have been Refresh Optive Mega 3, which are as soothing as Restasis!
I sat with Retains MGD, and they were pretty good, but not as good as the Optive Mega 3. For bedtime, the best has been Lacrilube.

Could you do a video on redness relief eye drops, giving alternatives and limitations, and talk about lumify as the new one on the market.

I have retaine mgd but I prefer Sooth XP I found it lasts longer in my eyes. But the convenient packaging of retaine is nice so I use Soothe in the AM and keep the retain on me for when I’m out of the house if I need a little extra through out the day

With the single use drops I put some in my eyes and wait for them to be absorbed. Then, add more a little later. Hate being wasteful and throwing them away. Thanks again!

Great video! Blink is the king, always worked very well for me and I only ever have to use 2 drops per eye halfway through the day (after 8 hours) and it ensures comfort for another 8!

I tried all of the over the counter dry eye drops and for me Thera tears worked the best.

I have used Lumify several times and as you say, they work instantly. However, withing 30 minutes my eyes become so itchy that I need to rub them for relief and then they are worse than before I used the eyedrops.

the best for me is from brand bepanthen that comes in 16 unidoses that you can bring in a poket to office or anywhere.
my first contact lenses Bausch&Lomb HD Purevision. It had a good vision far and near but dryed my eyes after 1h. So a had to add drops to moisture my eyes. After a month I ask for a new lenses to test. Then I discover biofinity multifocal and I stick to it until today. With this lenses I don’t need drops to moisture my eyes anymore.

Clear Care all day long for me. It’s so nice not putting chemicals onto my eyes every morning. I do pre-clean my Biofinity with a daily cleaner and let them soak in saline for about 30 minutes, because the daily cleaner does cause Clear Care to bubble out of the case.

I tested more than tree brands. Biofinity multifocal are the best option for my eyes. It is easy to manipulate cause it is thicker than other lenses. My eyes never dry even under air condition office. Ultra by bausch&lomb are great to bu i stick to biofinity because of its thickrness that make is easy to handle. biofinity has no micro mark number or character printed in the border to identify the right position of the lenses like bausch&lomb has. try it yourself.

I tried Blink and Biotrue solutions before and I find that Biotrue works really well for me. Not only makes my contacts clean, but it refreshes. The reason why is because it mimics the tear in your eyes.

I recommend pure vision toric for astigmatism. The contacts are super clear and they have a lower water gradient of 36% which is excellent for people who suffer from dry eyes!

I was given the B&L ultras when I first started wearing contact lenses. I hated them so much. My eyes dried out so fast and I was usually pulling them out of my eyes within 4 hours because I just couldn’t handle it. I’ve had great luck with the Acuvue Vita lenses.
I actually started working at an eye doctor’s office a little while back and the doctor at my office and I have been talking a lot about new lenses I can try. So I’m super excited to be able to try out new contact lenses in the future.

Recommendation note, od 7.50 -1.25 120 os 7.50 -1.25 180 the recommendation is not what the prescription is.????

Hi Doctor eye health. I’ve been wearing Acuvue Oasys For Astigmatism for years. I have a problem wearing both lenses, my eyes get sore and tired and i have to take them out after about 4hrs. I stumbled across wearing 1 contact in my right dominate eye. I do this so I can see distance and read fine print. Also for some reason I have no eye eritation whatsoever. I have been doing this for years without issues. I’m thinking the eye that I’m not wearing the contact does all the breathing for both. I tried on many occasions to use both however my eyes get too sore. Please give me your thoughts

Very informative video, thanks! I’m a 62 year old male and in my third week of wearing contacts (that I vowed for 48 years would never happen). I had some hard lessons to learn the first four weeks (one week I didn’t wear them at all), the first week was just learning how to put them in and take them out (first set), the second week was trying to adjust to them (second set) and learned one was off (prescription) a bit, the third week reverted back to glasses waiting for new set, and finally this week (third set) learning the care and maintenance of the lenses. A LOT was left out of the orientation when converting from glasses to contacts. So thank you for a great video explaining proper maintenance, brand differences, and the do’s/don’ts of caring for eyes and lenses!

I haven’t tried contact lenses but I’m quite excited to try them out now. I was diagnosed with astigmatism 10 years ago but my eyes worked fine so rarely wore my prescription glasses 4 years ago I saw my eyesight deteriorate and I knew I had to start wearing those glasses but I have them on my face. My Dr says no contact lenses can work for my astigmatism, I hate prescription glasses, do you really think its possible that my astigmatism can be too bad that no contact lenses can work?

Okay, you said to never expose your contacts to water. I have monthly contacts and I had a splash incident (operating room mishap) in my eye that required me to use the eye wash station. Is it okay for me to wear my contacts? I haven’t used them since the incident and they’ve been soaking for +24hrs.

I need help finding a multifocal Tori’s Lens for dry eyes. My job and lifestyle require extended wear sometimes more than 18 hours per day.

Honestly, I like clear care plus and I’ll never switch to another solution because it’s a lot more convenient for me to just rinse my lenses and let it soak overnight than painstakingly rubbing my lenses with biotrue. Clear care also keeps up with my busy college schedule.

The Clear Care Plus Hydraglyde made me laugh in a good way. This is because I actually grabbed it from Walmart wanting to try it, because I noticed that my contacts were making one of my eyes dry, just before watching this video that night. So the laugh was more of an ironic one because of the timing.

I have a question? So I used opti free before and it was great, than i had an eye infection and my eyes got really sensitive and i got bio true but still getting swollen eyelid in the morning. So i started using H2O2 based contact solution but what i do is that when i get home i usually take out my contacts but i might put them on if i go out again in a few hours, so MY QUESTION is it ok to put the in saline solution in between usion the H2O2 contact solution at night? I couldn’t find my sterilization baskets for my clear care plus (hydraglyde) and put them in my kroger brand one, and it DID NOT neutralize correctly. They are 100% different. I don’t know if it’s the platinum disc or the solution itself.

Bio Finity Toric First time contact eyewear. Never had the opportunity to wear anything else. Some days these work well others they are blurry scratchy and dry. feels like my eye lids are trying to pull them out! �� I have days where I can’t seem to get them in, or out. Is there a way to get out without pinching them a crease and ruining them. Pretty expensive when you only get to wear less then a month before creasing or biting a piece out of the edge. I have a pretty minor astigmatism, but horrible vision. This video gives me hope I might be able to find the perfect pair of contacts for my eyes, thank you!

Well, it’s very interesting to see the comments and realise how different everyone’s eyes are. I tried Biotrue but I absolutely hated it. My vision was blurry and I felt like the solution didn’t clean the lenses properly. I swtiched to Opti-Free Pure Moist which I love so so much. It cleans the contact lenses perfectly, and I can wear them 12 hours a day without any problem or anything.

I have a question for you: If you have only blinked twice during this 5 or so minute video of yours like I have as that is the max I will ever blink….what then do you do if you have tried two types of dailies and two types of monthlies to the tune of: an unknows brand, a toric type unbranded, B+L Pro vision 2 [when I asked for a trial of Ultra’s due to the marketed designed for people in front of devices all day that have a lower blink rate(that were too big as BC was 8.9 not 8.5)] and Acuvue dailies that all fogged up inside of 30 seconds when I need something that takes at the least 10 minutes to fog up?(or not at all)

On to my eye drop question… I’ve accidentally been buying the blue box of the blink tears eye drops which are the non contact version. Will it harm my contacts if I use their original lubricating drops?

Clear care makes my sight go blurry after one or two hour wear. I leave the lenses in the solution for more than 6 hours and still.

I’ve worn standard Biofinity monthly contacts for years, but I’m interested to look into the Energys (I think I spelled that right) because most days I spend anywhere from 8-14+ hours on a screen. Yeah for college and work. Thank you for the information.:)

I Don’t like and don’t prescribe those Gen1 TRIS based contacts.
Without the “SmartShield” plasma coating it is impossible to wear those lenses!

I’ve been wearing contacts for over 20 years. -5.50 like your rx. The only kind of lens that feels like I’m wearing nothing is Acuvue2 uv blocking. And for the last 5 yrs or so, I use the Alcon Clear Care 3% hydrogen peroxide solution, which comes with a special cage (for each lense) bottle. I love seeing the fizzies cleaning them for 8 hours. Now it says no need to rinse them after, but they are full of prunes. I put each in my palm and rinse with simple saline solution. No irritation, barely know that I have them on. Sometimes I fall asleep with them on which I know is a big no no, but take them out as soon as possible and leave them out for a few days to let my eyes heal. This all has worked for me for years. I order the Clear Care online. Acuvue2 are the most comfortable lenses ever, and I even have a stigmatizem in my R eye.

Thank you so much. I have sjogren’s syndrome and over time things have been getting worse. I’ve had severe issues with dry mount for a long time, but my eyes are really becoming a problem. Most Cylinder is mild, and you can use a Spherical Equivalent, after offering the person this educated choice.

How many times a day should you put solution in your contact lens while wearing

I clean with the peroxide ( CostCo stuff ). I use 2-4 “sets” at the same time! I rotate the lens all of the time. Take one set out and use the next in line. All of the soak time is over one day! Many times I re-wash containers that traveled in the case all day. I can use the same lens “set” all day, and re-use for weeks. They stay nice and I forget they are in my eyes. Nice to have a ready fresh set for a “binge watch” session. For a long talk or session, I swap fresh lens for best feel and sight.

my tip for dry eyes is simple saline solution! no added chemicals, good for rewetting….

Can anyone tell me which they like better, Air Optix Plus HydraGlyde or Biofinity XR for monthly?? Which is better? I’ve Only ever used Dailies before. I don’t want to have to use drops if I can avoid it, I don’t have really dry eyes. Thanks for your time!

hello doctor, even since i got conjunctivies i haven’t been well at all. for months now. can you give me advice? i did at least six courses of eye drops and ointments. im in the helpless state right now. my upper lids and swollen every single day. the doctors say its a bacterial infection. my vision is perfect but my eyes burn again now. what do i do? optilon and biosoft made me better and i thought i healed finally but within a month or so i used a make up brush that i forgot to wash ever since i stopped using make up.. the problem started again and the doctor changed the meds, im not yet better. i can be a lot more specific, people tell me to use local honey as an eye drop! what do i do?

Cooper Vision Biofinity Toric lenses for the past 10 years. Only worked well when working out/being active. Dried out really quickly when doing any kind of computer work. Now trying the Acuvue Oasys dailies for astigmatism.

I remember using an eye spray on the eyelid whilst closed. Did the total opposite, dried the eye even more. Meant to make eyes feel refreshed.

Hated air optix!!!! always had trouble with them. First and only time i used them made my eyes hurt for days. Drops didnt help. I should had go to the ER but stay home cause of pandemic. Best contacts for me IwEar. Air optics are uncomfortable, hard, and made my eyes dried.

I used the clear care hydraglyde stuff…. and lord I will NEVER ever use it again.
It gave me a chemical burn on my eye. My fault tho. But I will never do it again. After watching your video on the opti free solution, I have never gone back! Thanks!

Hello just found this channel and video! I looked at the video for dry eye drops and then came here. I use AirOptics Astigmatism. I just ordered the blink drops for contacts. I also use pure moist disinfecting solution. Would you recommend I switch to the clear care? I noticed it comes with a special cleaning case. I have sensitive eyes and recently diagnosed with dry eyes.
