I used to have to weigh and record all my calorie counts everyday to keep my weight under control but since eating a starch based diet, I no longer have to watch my calories. Glad you did this video Ryan, because after reading and watching all those people from True North state that you shouldn’t eat nuts and limit fruit, it makes me feel guilty every time I eat them. However they are the most natural foods, and necessary for health. Much better to eat avocados and nuts, particularly brazils and walnuts, and I don’t want to limit fruit either. So I am right on your wavelength. Thanks for taking time to do this.
I can see there’s lots of experience how old are you? I was looking for if anybody else has a problem with cutting out all that fat? I’m not talking about excessive fat either. There’s so many diet rules and people making up diets that I’m very leery of another one. But I do agree potatoes need to be in in Whole Foods. I think you’re right about telling me what to eat totally I don’t agree either. I’m 75 with a lot of experience in dieting LOL Just remember there are fat vegans are vegetarians we have to find that balance don’t we?
Your comments & advice are great, but making a video while driving and taking your hands off the steering wheel is a BIG distraction. To some extent it could even make one doubt your credibility.

Are you crazy? Do you have a death wish for yourself and other road users. How totally selfish and inconsiderate to do that video while you are driving. Total lack of concentration on the driving, and you are not keeping your eyes on the road. Dogs loose in the car and on your lap…. What if you had an accident? Honestly. I never took your channel very seriously BUT… the last 2 vids of advice I’ve seen from you have been excellent! I’ve got almost 40 YEARS research into this “stuff” and I can easily tell you’re on a good path! PS. NO vids while driving! ( I don’t want you to kill me or my child! AND… SECURE the dog! They are innocent like kids and can’t secure themselves!)
I am vegan and I no longer a sugar or oil or not very many nuts. And I still have a fat belly. Am I eating too much fruit or what? I eat whole grains, beans Engine 2 whole grain sprouted stuff cereal with the cashew milk recipe I got from McDougall cookbook. But I still have a big huge chunk of fat on my belly. What am I doing wrong? I used to eat chips and candy bars and ice cream even big and ice cream I mean and it’s been almost two weeks and it’s a Give Up the sugar and chips and popcorn with salt and oil and I don’t fry food I don’t use oil and a Harley dropped any weight and still very fat in the belly.

starch solution is a great diet for life. most important is to avoid oil. it does not restrict anything beyond that.
No offense, but the mcdougall diet was at first meant for people with autoimmune disease’s.. not for people who are trying to lose weight. I have rheumatoid arthritis and follow it (strictly) and I am OFF my medications now. So.. you may want to add that people with autoimmune diseases should not listen to your opinion

I find my self doing raw til 4 summer time and starch in winter because i live in Norway and its a bad place for fruit. But I really miss hawaii because the fruit there is FANTASTIC! I also learned a lot from the local farm market there.

I eat a primarily starch based diet with some fruit, greens, nuts added. I just cut meat out of my diet and processed sugars and foods. So far I am very satisfied

I’m not taking advice from someone who is not smart enough to realize that making a video while driving is not safe. Not only that, you continue to take your eyes off the road to unnecessarily look at the camera. Driving should be taken more seriously and I’m tired of almost getting hit by distracted drivers.
John McDougall doesn’t say anything about feeling guilty it seems as if you made it altogether too complicated.

They do make dog seatbelts, but they are really overpriced. What they are is a harness with a thick pad for the chest. You can pick up a cheap harness and then stuff a small pillow or something in it. You fasten the seatbelt, then position the dog on the seat in front of it, and attach from the ring on top of the dog’s shoulders to the lap belt. Ty!
Great video. So true, totally optimal being raw but we don’t all live in paradise ey. I also find potatoes and whole food digest so much better than rice or grains. Do you find this too? And like fruit tastes so much better alone vs cooked carbs being pretty plain without sauces etc… sometimes hard to keep that salt low…. FRUIT WINS 😉 <3
I love this! I stopped calling myself HCLF because I felt guilty when I’d eat fat. I think if you eat what you like and have goals in mind of what you want. Learn what works for you. If it’s the starch solution, RT4, HCLF, etc. then stick to it but you don’t have to be so strict with it.
I go to the toilet at least 5x per day and I eat mostly starches:/
I actually find it more difficult getting in enough calories from starch.1000 calories from starch just feels way to heavy for me and dehydrating, where as a 1000 calories from fruit is splendid! I’m all for the fruity floaters!
Completely agree. A couple of things I’ve found: lower energy & slumps on SS, better more consistent energy on RT4. Also I crave sugar on SS & often end up eating chocolate or something else sweet/high fat. At the moment mainly eating raw til noon because of cost & seasonal lack of fruit in Australia.

I do both-raw till dinner mostly then potatoes with soups, beans, steamed veggies or rice. This works best for me-my digestive track does not do well with too much fruit so lunch is huge salad with veggies-breakfast is fruit and greens. My goal is whole foods vegan and low fat so as long as I am doing that, I feel good! I appreciate your flexibility with the diet!

I think raw food lifestyle looks to expensive to me. i love eating fruits and so on, but living on all raw i will give it a try soon, to make up my mind, but i am greatly happy as a starchivore been getting better results in my biking and running.

1. I agree with you, By adding fruit and healthy fats on the Starch Solution you are no longer following the starch solution 100%. That as you said defines quitting it.
2. Suggesting you’re doing harm…did those people even watch your 1st video about quitting it? you mentioned time and time again how good you think it is still. Just add fruits and healthy fats.

I have known two family members, who took their fat intake to almost zero for the last 20 + years of their lives. One was an avid runner and the other exercised well into her 70’s. Both lost their memory and brain function years and years before their death. That made me a believer that we ALL need good fats ( in moderation ) for our brains and body to work well. Also, they tried to eliminate salt consumption as well. I use Himalayan Pink Salt instead. Which may mean you need to take additional Iodine into your diet.
The whole Veganism thing is Driving me crazy, idk why. I’ve been a Vegan for 7 months now. initially it was good but for the last 2-3 months I’ve started feeling super Dizzy in my head. I have Low Energy most of the times even when I’m eating lots of bananas & other Fruits. I take Vitamin b12 supplements too.

I don’t wanna Die this way. I always believed in Spirituality. when I Heard about benefits of Veganism, I totally Accepted it. I don’t Like Meat anyways. I was a Vegetarian before.
I just Wish I find the Perfect Vegan Diet for Myself. it’s already been 7 Months. Idk if I’m still eating unhealthy or what. my family got no problem with what I eat, But idk why I feel Like This Life could’ve been Better If there was Somebody To guide me Better. I feel Lost & Lonely, like I’m a Stranger in my own Life.

I cannot feel full on fruit not even a little. I literally feel like I’m starving eating raw is much harder than even a 3 week water fast. Every day was starvation. I felt I was going to eat my desk.

Oats and water..or Muslie, pure survival food! Plus starch is so relaxing…losing weight on starch is far less frought than fruit! You just chill and do a little calorie restriction in the evns..
A mixture of rawtill4 and starch solution works for my lifestyle at the moment BUT in an ideal world I’d love to be close to 100% raw, if I move one day and make more money lol. Great video!
Congratulations! Don’t forget, what you eat is supposed to make you feel good and healthy. If it does not, think about it. Could there be something your body is missing? Some vitamins, some minerals? Then you might look into the Keto diet. Just a suggestion.
If on the other hand, you feel fine, stick with it. Good luck in whatever you do and I wish you a happy life and success with your diet.

I’m so glad i’ve found something that works for me (which is just eating in moderation to maintain and calorie counting to lose it) to get the weight off and keep it off, but everytime i have a baby i just gain weight (which i then need to lose!). Good luck! 5 weeks in and going well, im sure you can keep going x

I’m a type two diabetic. I’m finding my A1C has gone up from 5.3 to 5.8 eating starches. Don’t mind saying… I’m a little confused.
The oatmeal thing sounds like it was within the starch solution. It was all whole food and no processed sugar. I think that’s good. Fruit as our sweets is perfect

I really wish I had find out the “Yamzοkο Weebly” (Google it) years ago. I lost 12 lbs in 3 weeks up to now. There is certainly still need of exercises even just a couple of times weekly as well as the meals to have must be ideal. It showed remarkable outcomes for me. I undoubtedly advise the product, wish it works as good for you as it does for me..
But are whole weat pasta and bread good as well as brown rice? Or if it’s not, what’s the difference? I’m italian, please tell me I can still have my beloved pasta al pomodoro:(

Thank you. I think all of the vegan diet labels is what continues to separate people in the vegan community. I say, as long as it is vegan, just eat variety of plant foods and it’s all good! At the end of the day we need to remind ourselves why we are vegan and it is for the animals and planet foremost before health any any other reasons.

This video is totally on point, and a super reasonable and rational way to approach eating a vegan diet while remaining sane (ie, not restricting like crazy, which is something I struggle with). Moderation is the golden rule.
I went vegan in the same time than recovery from binge eating disorders… I start by eating most raw food (not really rawtill4) BUT my stomach was already use to eat a lot ( bad food of course ), I wasn’t obese but overweigth and the fruit was digest so fast that don’t stop my binging ( vegan option most of the time but fat ). Starch solution was the best for me, I was so satisfy eating all that potato, that rice ( white most of the time but whatever), pasta, beans…I had more energy and my binge stop.
So, you right people need to try both and see when they feel better:)

She’s young… She’s healthy and when she gets older and the damage caused through the bad things she’s eating begins to take’s it’s toll on her body she can return to the starch solution to get her health back.. Unfortunately the only people who stick to the starch solution have health issues.. IT WORKS…

People get hung up on some of the dumbest things. I get asked ” why don’t you eat meat?” I simply say “I don’t want to”! End of story.
Wow, I do not restrict myself in any way darling. When I see that food, the veggies, the sweet potatoes, the fruits I just want to eat them. They are delicious, sweet and good for ya. When I see potato chips or any shit like that I might want it SOMETIMES and I will allow myself but I am conscious what I am doing to my body then. A healthy body will deal with no problem with shit food sometimes. I think it is just the attitude, the strong will power that differentiate us. I am full most of the time and I do not need to binge on food, even If my mind wants to eat some crap or other foods I just cannot because I am not hungry at all! Starch solution for the win:P
Why cook starches 3 times a day? I cook a huge batch of starches and then eat it over the week. Plus you get the benefit of resistant and slower absorbing starches when you refrigerate them.

Good for you! Awesome! I also eat Whole Foods mostly high starch but I also cook with a little coconut oil sometimes and oh no I sprinkle pink salt on my food and wait wait I put organic maple syrup on my oats. Yet the weight falls off and i feel great

Great video! For work lunches on raw till 4 I just add in a basic salad meal (no dressing or on the side) at lunch if needed. That way I can participate in lunch and just eat my fruit meals around the lunch.

Wow! How refreshing, I felt the all starch approach was way too much. I do agree with the Starch approach that oils, mostly cooked, are bad no dispute there. But I do feel that the natural fats in food are appropriate for us.
I think you critiqued the Starch Solution respectfully and I also think you critiqued your own video well too. What I really hate on YouTube at the moment is this damaging in-fighting that some well known plant based people are instigating for whatever reason. That really p***es me off!

I feel that the reason people didn’t agree is it is a click bait title. The things you do are still basically the starch solution. You are acting like you have all these new ideas. Eating more fruit and some extra nuts is still doing the starch solution for someone at an ideal weight. He only says to limit those if you are having trouble losing weight or have health issues. He is not a low calorie diet. There is a difference for McDougall weight loss and McDougall maintenance. People are triggered by saying you stopped following it, but you really didn’t.

why not get the staple (majority calories) from starch. then add in veggies, fruit, and seeds.nuts into the mix. starch is far more satiating, i remember trying to get 500 calories from veggies, it was tough, and i felt hungry about 30 minutes later.

I found that when I only eat fruit in the morning (smoothie typically) than I feel like I have low energy, shaky and not satisfied. I hands down prefer starch solution because it keeps me full longer. I have been adding a ton of veg to my starch though and that has accelerated my weight loss.
I’m 8mths pregnant and while a raw till’ 4 style diet helped heal my thyroid disorder so that I was able to conceive I sadly can no longer fit the large quantities of fruit in my stomach anymore. It also just takes too much energy to digest such large amounts of food, so instead of having more energy after a fruit meal, I’m exhausted.
While I still eat fruit for breakfast in a smoothie and snack on fruit throughout the day, I do more starch solution for lunch and dinner. I miss my fruit meals but I’ll get back to it after I have my body back to myself again!
The problem I have with its charge solution is there’s no diabetic solutions when you take the meter and run it after I start solution meal it can be very high but it seems to go down. I can’t depend on the meter reading.
I don’t think he knows the answer when it comes to diabetes neither does the diabetes, or fat makes your pants fall off or some of those other protein high fat diet’s they’re not right either and I don’t care if they do have good meter readings you’re not right for me.
What I noticed the most is that these people really are not diabetics to profess they are but they are not

This raw till 4 nonsense has to come to an end…the human diet is a starch based diet…humans thrive on starch as the staple in the diet…there has been NO population of societies or people who ever prospered on a fruit based diets…stick with STARCH based diets and remember raw till 4 is a fad diet…albeit a better fad diet then any animal products based diet or the standard diet most people eat….also, no offence people on these fruit diets look like shit and would probably get their asses kicked by people on starch based diets!!! show me a fruit based elite professional athlete please.and mya…or even a bodybuilder (somebody whon actually looks like a bodybuider not just saying they are) and maybe ill change my mind…

Great video! I have been experimenting with a raw till noon style during the week (because of my job) and raw till 4 on the weekends when I have more time and flexibility. I can definitely tell the difference when I eat more fruit I feel better, have more energy, and digestion/body odor is better.
You still look cute in the before video but congrats on your weight loss. I’m trying so hard to do the starch solution. It’s so hard to stay committed but so far so good. My stomach feels flatter after a meal. It feels really good but it’s so hard to fit in socially. I’m really missing French fries and potato chips. But I still make a good mashed potato and that helps.
We I started eating mostly starches I found I was cooking endlessly, it drove me mad, but as I learned more, I find I cook a whole lot less now. Breakfast is often overnight oats, 2-3 minutes and it is done, made with dinner (if I need to make it at all)
Lunchs are made 2x a week, one pot meals, today it is red lentil sloppy joe’s, one batch is 5 meals. Usually I make chili or curry or salads in 3-5 portion batches.
Dinners can be easy or hard, depending what you want, and if you want to make left overs for lunch. I’ll make tacos (2 meals), pizza (2 meals), potato fries, rice or quinoa dishes. Some might take an hour, some take 5 minutes of prep, throwing brown rice in the instant pot with frozen carrots, peas, peppers and corn is a 2 minute meal.
The instant pot took away my insanity the most though, one pot, few dishes to clean, makes big meals for left overs. Also makes dry beans without soaking or planning, a must for starch eaters.

Another great video guys! find a do mostly raw till noon nothing beats a giant smoothie for breakfast! Although the problem with that is I love to have a smoothie or juice in the afternoon and if I’ve eaten a cooked lunch such as veggie sushi it can cause uncomfortable bloating. Nothing really beats raw till 4 when you have good fruit available!
I prefer to do raw til four in the summer and starch solution in the cold months.

Veganism isn’t a religion. Sheesh… I eliminate people in my life who choose to catagorize me into any “ism”. Eat healthy, fruits and veggies and break the constraints of all ism’s. Think for yourself.

I live in the northwest so cheep good fruit is difficult to come by. However I do usually eat raw for breakfast and then starches for lunch and dinner
I like to eat mostly raw. But I eat like beans and sometimes rice and stuff. I feel a lot better eating mainly vegetables and fruit. And I eat a lot so I definitely get enough calories. When I eat potatoes and rice it makes me feel really heavy and sometimes to the point where Am physically sick. My recommendation would be to just listen to your body and do what is best for you..
Firstly we’ll done.
Secondly the programme of the Dr is designed for “maximum” weightless. Because of that, he’s had to limit the amount of fruit! That’s it! The same for nuts and seeds. 2 things at play here; if you don’t then for adding fat will slow te “maximum” weight loss down. Everybody’s version of what is “moderate” is completely different due to genetics and bioavailability with their own metabolism which is governed by the microbiome. Change the microbiome and the bioavailability of those foods changes. By adding more vegetables (wide variety Inc salads) you add water and fibre only at first. This will change everything and speed up metabolism. You will then metabolise sugar for more readily. There are various forms of sugar. Sugar in fruit is different to sugar in a carrot. Unfortunately all fruit is not equal hence why berries are recommended not to mention the Health benefits, are numerous. The second is with nuts because your body will burn starch first every time. Our brain and our organs need this most 24/7 and it will consume starch first and if it doesn’t need anymore energy it will store the fat. You don’t need that. So hence…… I am personally adding 1tbsp of freshly ground flaxseed a day because of the Health benefits to avoid certain cancers.
However, once you have reached your weight loss goal and your body starts to “settle” you then add these things back into your diet but slowly. For example, I might be able to have a serving of nuts, seeds an avaocodo everyday and my weight remain fine. You on the other hand may only be able to consume 3 times a week. Same with the grains. Sone folks might cope with losing weight still with bread but if you dont, you have to switch up the programme and go for the recommended “maximum” weight loss. Either scenario is fine because our body types are different, our genes are different and our microbiome is different. Two thirds of your immune system resides in your gut.
So to conclude am I miffed at what you’ve said no not at all. I get what you say by people finding the sweet tooth is a problem but tbvh, that sweet tooth will take time to adjust and without resetting the metabolism it’s really hard to stop it. He has to be strict on this “maximum” weightloss because people will abuse it and twist the rules. Unless your personality is one that can tweek (like you) but still follow the rule to lose weight 90% say of the time. Not everyone will be that diligent. I for example add a tbsp of ketchup. When I reach my weight goal I might be OK adding 2 if not 3 tbsp of ketchup and my weight remains, stable.
Lastly once you have got your health back it’s so much easier to be active “naturally” whether that be walking or doing Joe Wicks workouts. Your body is sooooooo much healthier it has sooooooo much more energy that yiu do these things. Yiu learn “naturally” how much wholefood fat to add. That’s it.

Guilt and obsession are self-made, one should remember that when shopping for groceries. I eat mostly starches but I don’t think of it as “The Starch Solution” I think of it as rice, pasta, potatoes and beans and bread. But it is definitely McDougall’s onfluence that got me to eat this way. Hell, I don’t even consider myself a vegan, I just agree with McDougall that this is the way that the human species will thrive and be healthy (we are animals with clothes). In the past 2 years I have concluded that starches should indeed be the bulk of what I eat. It is fuel for work, gym, play, and starchy foods have a lot of vitamins and minerals.
I know everyone on Youtube goes on about “what works for you” but eventually you have to realize we are a species just like any other when it comes to biology. The best thing to do is to keep track of what’s going on in your body through measurements and blood samples as you try different kind of diets and foods along the way. Simply thinking that something is probably “the right thing for me” without any data will lead to doubt and denial.
Here are some sensible suggestions: Don’t film while driving. Focus on the road. Keep your hands on the steering wheel. Restrain the dogs so they aren’t able to distract you or block your vision while driving. Be responsible and safe.
Yeah it is hard for me to do the McDougall high starch.! I added fats back in. very first time I went vegan I followed Neal barnards 21 day kickstart and i feel like he is more reasonable and I lost weight. When I cut out fats i got super dry skin and I didn’t notice a huge weight loss because I was already vegan. That being said u still have to count calories and cut out sugar if u want to lose weight, even on vegan.

This intrigued me show I went back to the book! Show me where McDougal limits fruit in the Starch Solution for people NOT trying to lose weight? As to fats, dried fruit and fruit and veggie juice, if you are at the weight you want to be you can eat small quantities. It’s just wrong to say McDougal is anti fruits, nuts or fats. Definitely anti oils.

I I eat potatoes and sweet potatoes I have been doing that for almost 6 months. but I’m not a moderate person and also I’m a minimalist. so I really like the Simplicity of my diet. 160 pounds the lightest I’ve been my whole life. but I believe that if you’re not detached from food it’s going to be hard for you to follow a more simple diet like Dr McDougall recommends. most people like ice cream pizza cakes and cookies vegan chicken and all that stuff I have no desire for it. I found the best way to lose weight without trying eat as many starches as you want limit the salt and sugar and no oil over the span of three or four months the weight will just fall off.

Salicylate sensitivity is becoming very common, especially in America. Because of this, majority of people will do better on starches than fruit.

Being in Tasmania, ‘The Starch Solution’ is definitely more practical for me. I have a balance & coordination disability & have just found that cooked starches work better for me in terms of the extra energy I need I do really really love my fruity though.

I hope you don’t still believe the stuff you said about fruit being healthier for you than starches. I respect that you are vegan, but you really need to understand nutrition a lot better than you did when you made this film. Not sure what you base your opinions on, but lets try and remember they are opinions and I don’t see you linking to any studies to support you. True nutrition is a mixture of starches, fruits, veggies, nuts and seeds, cooked or uncooked. I have not seen one study on nutritionfacts.org that would support your bias as well, whereas Dr. Gregor’s site has clearly shown the benefits of plant based whether cooked or uncooked.

I think for normal individuals what your saying makes perfect sense. But for people that are severely overweight and really struggle with weight loss and have failed before, this is a no brainer approach. sweetness could you use things like sugar alcohols?
@fat as I said earlier a lot of people don’t do moderation well, but I think once they have reached a better place health-wise, they can add a spoon of walnut butter or peanut butter.
Overall I don’t really think you critiqued it, you just said you don’t strictly adhere. I think the majority of people will modify and eat some fruit and eat a little fat here and there.

One of the main issues I had with so many of the fruit based diets is the all or nothing approach stating that fruit and raw is the best yet no mention to the fact that the majority of people can not a)get access to quality fruit and the quantity required and B) can not afford the amount of money to live on it never mind feed a whole family,
So to me as a realist living in Ireland with not only year round bad weather but also bad produce from the supermarket with no farmer markets to really talk about but zero locally produced fruit in ALL of Ireland we eat close to the starch solution for the past while but have done raw till 4 in the past but just like when we were fully raw it was not practical in these climate conditions and because of financial limitations.
Now if and when our circumstances change and we are in a better position I do think having less cooked is most definitely on the cards as it is far healthier and we will be introducing a mostly fruit based diet but at this moment my HCLF vegan eating regime will remain.
I would say Freelee, Harley, Fully Raw Kristina and even Mr ATM Dan McDonald and that snake in the grass John OKRaw would buckle if they lived in Ireland or other colder climates and trying to continue their current eating habits and reducing their money to the average Joe and Josephine Bloggs there would be a new diet introduced Cooked to 4:-)
You guys have shared great info and I agree totally we need to do what we need to do keep it vegan without limiting the mindset that if we are not following XYZ diet then we are not doing ourselves good. I think the starch solution offers people structure and helps to teach them how to eat vegan. After that, I agree with you completely, Plant-based eating is the first priority and the most important facet.

I´m doing a mixture of Raw Till 4 and Stach Solution (lately also [email protected]), though I tend to prefer Starch Solution because it is much easier for me.

saw a few of your videos… digging the contrast between before and after! whenever I’ve lost a good chunk of weight in the past (say 20lb or more), always 4 or 6 months later I would start losing my hair. eventually that would taper off and regrow but it’s still a little nerve wracking. if you make any more updates (and I sure hope you do), maybe mention whether your seeing changes in your hair texture, hair growth ( or not), fingernails, skin, etc. most of these things wouldn’t be noticeable for many months. good luck with your WOE (way of eating)!!
Well-balanced viewpoint you offered here. American culture can be quite prescriptive at times, where a person has to ‘belong’ to a certain viewpoint in every facet of their lives. It could be the sociological result of having a very large population. In Pacific countries I think we’re less like that. Although, one American I think has got it right is Geneen Roth, her journey in finding her own inner guidance has been remarkable.
I agree, the Starch Solution is a great starting point. It is so important to eat a variety of plant foods, and start to get away from the labels. great job explaining.:)
totally resonates with me. that’s why I had to break away. I get too obsessed with labels and strict rules.
Having tried RT4, 100% Raw and The Starch Solution I can definitely say The Starch Solution is best. But most people coming from the RT4 or Raw think The Starch Solution is just vegan cooked food, which it definitely isn’t. Foods that are more or less processed, oils, artificial food additives, and so on may cause body odour and you to feel less that optimal. But a high starch, low fat diet of both raw and cooked whole plant food is more nutritionally dense than anything else. It completely gets rid of cravings, lets you eat until you’re satiated while gradually loosing weight and improving your health.
Click bait? Yes. And you are still following McDougal plan. Sounds like totally to me. Since you’re not trying to lose weight.
I lost 65 pounds since becoming vegan a year and a half ago! I eat high carb low fat with lots of starches. Mcdougal and Greger are my guides. Good luck and enjoy.
Living in Maui I prefer raw till 4! However Starch Solution keeps me satiated longer! It depends on what activities im doing for day! Love this video ill find u guys on snap chat! Hugs!
Love this, really helpful! I personally think it’s best just to relax & try different things, vegan of course! I just listen to my body &what makes me feel my healthiest. Try get the freshest produce available & NOT STRESS over food because that can ruin my ability to absorb all the good nutrients. I sometimes treat myself to vegan snacks and foods from the health store at times when I get bored of food because available quality is rubbish.
Banana Ice Cream is my go to “cheat”…. you can blend up dates and oats with cinnamon for a “crumble.” I also am on the starch solution for autoimmune and to maintain the weight I lost while following this lifestyle..it works! haha have you tried baked japanese sweet potatoes? That is 100% my “treat” of choice, I have them daily!
Oats and water..or Muslie, pure survival food! Plus starch is so relaxing…losing weight on starch is far less frought than fruit! You just chill and do a little calorie restriction in the evns..
I was a raw vegan for 6 years (until my teeth became too sensitive and I had no choice but to add cooked). I now do a combo between starch/raw/macrobiotic with some vegan restaurant food. I mostly eat organic produce from a local csa, supplemented with fruity green smoothies, salads, grains and beans, with occasional soy/tempeh when I’m feeling fancy. I find it much easier to get full and get enough calories when adding cooked foods, and it is definitely easier from a social perspective and going to restaurants. My body did feel cleaner when I was raw, however now that I am able to consume more calories, I have more energy to exercise, which is also cleansing. You did a great job summing up the pros and cons in this video.
Can you do a What I eat in a Day as you are on starch solution, please? Would be good to check what you are having. Totally agree with everything. I feel 100% better on fruit, but in the moment starches are the way to go as the fruit isn’t the best quality here and is expensive as hell. We have to best with what we have:)

You can eat white rice as long as you are eating it with other plant based foods like potatoes, green bananas, beans and green veggies.

This is such a FABULOUS video guy’s:-) and we agree with all you are saying here:-) we have been following a more starch solution diet the past while as we have found it harder to get good quality fruit here in Ireland, and the prices for even tasteless fruit in Ireland has gone through the roof, although we still do eat tons of fruit, we find starches are so much cheaper and they don’t go off as quickly, ) I do love my fruit though by choice especially my bananas and dates, the good old faithfuls haha! I think that both raw till 4 and starch solution diets are healthy and nutritious, and keeping it high carb, low fat and Vegan is the key to long term success and health:-) Thanks so much for sharing Natasha and Luca and have a FANTASTIC week ahead XXXXXX <3
I have to disagree with you on this one. Restrictions in life keep us on the path we want to be. We have boundaries for work. We have boundaries for friends and relationships. We have boundaries for the way we eat. Before I followed the start solution I didn’t have clear cut boundaries and I was 60 pounds overweight… again to each their own. But to me boundaries = freedom…Because I no longer have to go through the mental gymnastics on why I can eat foods I clearly should not.
“If it’s vegan it’s perfect” That’s the same thing I used to say to myself when I was 60 pounds overweight.
Great video! I agree I think people (me) get caught up in these plans trying to follow them to the T and yes, start obsessing over what we can and can’t eat. I agree with what you are saying and I think what I’m learning is I am taking things I read and watch about a variety of different vegan plans, and just sticking with whole, plant-based foods. Don’t calorie count, don’t stuff yourself to hit a certain calorie amount, eat when you’re hungry, stop when you’re full, don’t worry about how much fruit you eat etc. etc. Thanks for posting this, I definitely am at a point where this resonates with me tremendously!!!
I totally agree with your position. I find adding a small amount of healthy fats makes all the difference in my ability to adhere long-term. Love your videos!

I saw a recent interview with Dr. McDougall where he stated he wished he had never written the MWL book, because it’s more important to follow the principles of the McDougall Program for life long health. I also saw an older interview with Will @ Potato Strong that if you are healthy and want to eat 20 apricots one day go ahead and have them.
Here is the problem with nuts. First, most people like the ones roasted [in oil] and salted and its really difficult to stop at 1 oz. I can’t and so I generally avoid them. Avocado is different for me because I can eat a reasonable amount and feel satiated.

May i ask your blood type? Because in Asia, we eat according to our blood type. And if you’re type O like myself, it’ won’t be good for us, it could cause weight gained.
Great comparison. I agree on all points. I felt more tired eating starch all day especially if I eat big quantity, like 3 meals. If I graze throughout the day I could do it. Maybe. No I couldn’t haha.
I just started a RawTillNoon diet because I live in Canada and we don’t have access to that quantity ripe and fresh fruit all year round + I don’t own a car (can’t carry boxes of bananas by myself) + I’m a student and I still can’t afford RawTill4. I’m doing a bit of mix though, sometimes I’ll eat oats in the morning or something. I just try to be satiated and content and keep a good digestion going. Your videos help me a lot.:)
