So, if I follow this workout routine I’ll be able to hit a golf ball like Rory? I always thought it was down to technique what do I know!!?
I like these and glad you provided suggested dumbbell weights.
My game always gets progressively worse as the holes go by because I get too tired, therefore my shots get sloppy lol…so I’m going to try this out, see how I go.
Wrong way to use the medicine ball. And why is it with every trainer there is the disparaging remark about the client? Never could figure that out…
Never mind over 50’s, I’m 32, I’m going to give these a shot.
Hi Jeff, this is a great full body workout, would it be ideal to do this 2-3 times per week
Question re last exercise. Why only rotate to the knee down side? Injury risk?
excellent tips. technically if you are over 50s ( but at any age ) you need to do more of this than playing and in fact, if you do it you will see an immediate improvement in your game.
Good workout! The only exercise I would switch is the “golf set up rows”. The angle is not optimal for back recruitment. It acts more as shrugs engaging the upper trap. I would suggest a Kettlebell Pendlay row, where you touch the weights on the ground between each rep. A lot more challenging on the posterior chain and on core activation!
Do you have any exercise sets using resistance bands?
Good vid
Great content as always Jeff! Quick question: Should we do all 3 or 4 sets of A1 & A2 first, and then move on, or do a superset of A1 & A2, then B1 & B2 then C1 & C2; then go back through 3 or 4 times? Thanks again for the great posts…
If you wish to buy a foam roller to support your golf game, at a great price then please follow this link, thank you https://amzn.to/39DBhJM
Great video. I’m 53 used to be a plus handicap player but have had 3 left knee meniscus operations. On split squats I can’t get that low do to the knee. Any suggestions?
This video gave me a whole new appreciation for the hanging snatch
Thanks man, ordered a band similar to that, and now hitting the gym!
This is great. Lot to go through in one video at the gym. Do you have these exercises in a training format for usage while at the gym?
Most over 50 golfers I know could not come close to doing these exercises.
I’m not sure but,if anyone else trying to find out
basic golf swing video
try Magonsi Amazing Golf Expert ( search on google )? Ive heard some decent things about it and my mate got great success with it.
Great video. I like how weights were only used twice and most of the moves can be done in a small room. An average golfer would find great benefits just by doing the warm up.
Great stuff Rob as usual, even at nearly 60 i work with a personal trainer for my golf. probably even more important at my age. I use a lot of straps and bands which help with shoulder rotation. I do very little weights, bike and rowers for stamina. how about a vid of healthy eating protein, energy for the course. Sort of whats in my golf bag…food wise! Keep on keeping on!
I have spent months investigating how to improve your golf and found an awesome website at Gavs golf tactic (look it up on google)
Thanks to a friend, I looked Google for the “lyly amazing guide”. It’s absolutely the best strategy and the best deal I’ve ever seen. My sister used it and shed 13 pounds. I just started and I’m already lower 5 pounds.
that’s 15yards of distance, it took me 25days of hard work but its a very nice feeling when u reach in 2 shots on all d par 5 of your home course,it works like magic, great workout for golfers.
My friend Pete has put out a system of workouts to increase your golf game. I have been doing them and feel my swing becoming smoother and flowing. My driving distance has been easily increased. For less than $15 you would be CRAZY not to buy. Invest in your golf game.
here’s several ideas for how to play golf better
Practise your golf swing in slow motion
Position your feet properly
Learn the correct body posture
(I learned these and why they work from Gavs Golf Tactic website )
There are a few components to how to play golf better. One resource I found which succeeds in merging these is the Gavs Golf Tactic (check it out on google) it’s the best resource that I’ve seen. look at the interesting information.
I’m studying ways to improve your golf and discovered an awesome resource at Gavs Golf Tactic (google it if you’re interested)
I love how still the bridge of your nose was throughout the video. haha
a hang snatch is starting from the weight on thigh then you do a snatch, you just did a power snatch with dB.
I come from a Sprinting and Jumping background and find that much of the training I have done transfers to the power in my golf swing. I am looking to hit 140mph this year with a long drive club. 150+ is absolutely astounding.
Appreciate Video clip! Excuse me for butting in, I am interested in your initial thoughts. Have you thought about Paneevelyn Swinging Clubsman (erm, check it on google should be there)? It is a great one of a kind guide for revealing an effortless golf swing technique without the hard work. Ive heard some unbelievable things about it and my best friend Jordan at very last got astronomical results with it.
Why didnt you want us to rotate in the bent over row, injury prevention? because if not it is one of THE CLOSEST exercises to how the body works in the golf swing!
Also as a 60yr old 5 hcp golfer who has spent the last year doing heavy compound WT twice a week whilst the lunge is a great exercise for leg strength and stability for golf it is FAR Safer and much easier to get into the correct safe position of the Knee not going in front of the ankle if you step Backwards rather than frontwards!
Let us know when you hear that click in your back, you know that one repetition that you will do that screws your back up for the rest of your life. You should never twist with resistance or weight. Not a good idea bro.
Hey Rob! I’m already subscribed. Should I hit the subscribe button again if a car has gone past me?
So all I have to do is this workout 2-3 times a week with a couple of runs thrown in and my golf should improve and all round health will improve. Thanks
Nice, simple, easy to get done at home. First time view and another sub, I’m in!
deploying to the Middle East this weekend rob.. gonna give this a go and might vlog it pal.. heeeelllllpppp
Love the stretches at the beginning. Just saved the video. Will be implementing them before my workouts and will definitely try out that full route.
#newsubscriber
Thanks for the info Rob (if that’s your real name). I work for a living so when the weather gets better I’m hoping to play some golf in my spare time, I don’t think I’ll have time or money for the gym. I do understand the need for warm up and stretching to help prevent injury. I’ll have to find a cut down version. Keep the videos coming.
Ugh I’m tired just watching…
Rory was well fat!
Did you shower down with after your session?
Bahahaha!
I dont think I can manage that lateral duck walk thing in my local gym with a straight face lol. Specially if I do it wrong I’ll look a right tit
i dont think u will see this but a tip for the pullup is to put the thumbs on top of the bar as it takes of most the muscle activity in the forearms and works more of thee muscles it is supposed to and it will make them easier lol
cool vid, i 955) work out 5 days per week (2 cardio and 3 full body) and feel its hurting my golf, feel stiff esp in chest? after seeing this i can see why, I seriously need to pick up my stretching & core game but my big questions is why can i get his whole week work outs? this is just one day and doesnt hit all the muscles, right? Im sure he does bench press, flyes, squats, etc etc? id love to see his full week so i can see the needed stretching plus reps and how often, etc…. THX!
Yeah liked it but there’s no chance I’m doing the duck walk!!
Fitness may be overrated for golf. Not sure Tiger would have had so many back issues. Rory has had many injuries over the past 5 years. Jason Day is another example. Has Phil ever actually been hurt? Food for thought.
To much functional training in golf. You need to start by getting strong. After that you can do more golf related and functional training.
I love this workout however I have concerns. I had some problems in my lower back a few years ago. Is this workout going to hurt it?
Just finished the whole workout, thanks for that, it was great!
Been taking it easy the last few days after straining my lower back, I was feeling better and gave it a go.
How great it was when I discovered the last stretch after exercise was a lower back stretch I didn’t know about and it was amazing!
Thanks again!!!!
Great video. How many times per week should I complete this circuit without overtraining?
I love all the comments about how Tiger’s training ruined his back. This from people who no have qualifications to make that remark. They are just parroting that idiot Brandel Chamblee. Tiger unfortunately fell into the trap of all the gym bros i see. His physique has no symmetry and therefore numerous muscle imbalances. So tiger is like 6 ft and 185 lbs. Compare that to your avg nfl cornerback who is roughly the same size but then compare their physiques. The cornerback will carry the majority of their lean mass in their hips, glutes, legs and back, whereas Tiger has pencil legs, and no glutes or back. He just has a puffed up chest and biceps, and small shirts.
Always train on your feet. Stick to compound lifts and focus more on lower body than upper, and then 2x more back than chest. Basically do the exact opposite of what 95% of dudes at the gym do. Stop wasting time with bicep curls.
dead lift is what you should do if you never want to be able to walk.
This is a good routine, I will have to borrow it 2 days a week to supplement my other training. Using it for disc golf instead of ball golf, but same principals of rotation and lateral explosive power.
Hi, how may repetitions are in 1 set of a particular exercise? Thanks
Worked them the last 3 days. They make sense. Feels good kind of. Now I know what to do to improve my muscle tone and stamina for a full round, and not poop out by the 14th hole.
I disagree, I think Rory has compromised his game by gaining all the muscle.
He doesn’t look as synchronised at all these days…
His putting and wedges in and around 100-150 yards especially has suffered.
Great channel, I’m pushing towards similar goals. How often do you work out during the golf season. I’m trying to be at the course training as much as possible, but sometimes feel I should be trading some time for the gym. With your long training plan (which is awesome) from the other video, it is hard to see how to complete all of that and go to the gym in one week.
Do you change your training routine based on the season? I’ve heard of some people doing a completely different routine during the winter that is heavy on weights and then in the spring move to speed work outs.
I have been doing a similar workout mixed with core only I have a great stretch out routine where I wrap the cable around me move my feet away and then let the weight bring my back in a twist. It really limbers me up. I went from 0 to 300 ft in 8 weeks on the golf course.
Will Rory complete the Grand Slam (by winning The Masters) before Jordan Spieth (who just needs a PGA Championship)? I like Rory (and his perfect golf swing) better than DJ, or the over stressed Justin Thomas. JT looks like he’s in hell (maybe like Nick Faldo) when he’s on the golf course. A painful expression on his face-his eyes big as saucers. He looked like he was on the Bataan Death March until he won that sudden death playoff against Luke List at The 2018 Honda.
I think these exercises are not enough. Very weak. You need multijoint explosive lifts like; Power Clean, Romanian dead lift. Real squat, intense rotational core strengthening. Chopping with extension. And the right weight matters. You should be using your weight on everything except power clean…cut that weight in half.
Great video! Do you put golf specific workout plans together? I’d love to get one from you!
Great stuff Jeff, thank you. Two comments, one breath, Breathe during exercises. Second focus point, find a spot on the wall at eye level, will help so much with balance.
Great video Rob, which muscle groups are most important to train for golf you think?
Hello everibody! I am a teaching pro from Argentina. Wery Interesting exercises, I will test it with my own body and will public here my results. Thank you.
Weightlifting is hurting rorys hurting his career. Hopefully he does these basic exercises and stays off the weights.
Rory I believe the weight lifting is hurting your golf game. Try yoga, tiger woods was dominate when he was thin and flexible.
I liked this stuff, fitness in golf is a BIG thing now.
You should do more of this.
I (70) have been doing the exercises for 6 weeks in preparation for the season. My flexibility has improved a lot.
Thanks for this. At 67 I have been hitting the gym over the winter to get ready for spring. My hope is that I’ll avoid the injuries (lower back and left shoulder) that severely limited my practice and playing last season. If I add a few yards that’s a bonus. And yeahI emphasize 3 sets of high reps and lighter weightsI want the DJ look rather than the Rory look.
As soon as you start to add bulk to your body and you are a golfer, you will start to experience all sorts of problems that can have a long lasting negative effect. Light weight, high reps, stretching, a balanced diet, and practice is all that is needed.
for a certified personal trainer, I find it very odd you go to a dead hang during pull ups, knowing how much stress that places on the scapulae
I’m 70 walk regularly and pretty fit cardio wise, but need overall muscle conditioning/strengthening and improvement in flexible and balance. I find the split squat stresses my knees. Is it ok if I start by not touching my knees to the floor? Thanks for the videos!
Good stuff. I’m 55, in pretty good shape, but my balance is suspect and I’m not very limber.
Hi there: great workout just wandering what weight kettle balls you are using:
for the squat and lunges
Great Video And sympathetic On my Channel: Golf Fitness And Faszientraining ✌️
I’m glad he made this video. I’ll definitely try these workouts.
I’ve been doing it all wrong, light weight work with a wine glass, heavy weights with a pint glass, sorted.
Excellent video again mate, really enjoying the content. I definitely will take these stretches on, gets the heart rate up!
Great video! I have been arguing that this is the #1 reason tour players are hitting the ball longer. These guys finally train like professional athletes. Yes the ball goes longer, clubs are a factor, but in 2017 the average drive distance on the PGA tour was 289 yards…. the bigger, stronger men and women hit the ball further. I like the focus on fitness, well done!
Rob, great explanation, and demo. I can do all this in my garage with limited equipment required. Keeping in shape at 63 is difficult but not impossible. Thanks.
Would you say flexibility or strength work out are more beneficial? Recently started to do yoga to free up my back etc. Back to having a full swing and improved consistency.. Your thoughts appreciated.
Jeff…whoa!!!
Your very first exercise requires people to get down on both knees.
Those of us with any cartilage left would not want to do that!
We want to save all the cartilage we have!
I’ve already had two surgeries on my knees for torn meniscus and I don’t want another!
When Rory was a bit chubby he was the best when he use to where the Jumiara golf cap and TItlesit boom boom lol.
Another great video bud, i used to hit the gym about 5 times a week but that was some time ago:) I feel tired watching you lad.
Just found the channel. I’m over 50 and will be trying these stretches/exercises.
Since Rory started to hit the Gym hard he’s had a couple of bad injuries and hasn’t won anything (59th place and 17 shots off the lead at the Honda Classic yesterday); this seems like a risky approach especially for young men who can add bulk and musculature and generally change their body shape quite radically in a very short period of time. This is bound to feed through into the golf swing, even without getting into the whole issue of how this kind of training affects the smaller twitch muscles, swinging a golf club is about fractions and doing this after piling on 10 or 15kg of lean tissue relatively quickly will drastically impact these movements. Similarly we all know what the Gym did to Tiger’s back and knees… So my proposition is that certain types of Gym training regimes are bad for your golf. Discuss.
Great video! I have some serious back issues…I am doing some of these and will incorporate the others. Can you suggest a few other exercises to minimize back issues?
I need to get into doing a bit more work on my fitness. Problem is I hate Gyms and the extra cost of membership is not viable at the moment anyway. What we need is a home work out routine with minimal equipment…………….tights and duck walks will be optional.
Oh dear! I was tired watching you warn up! Guess I’ll never be hitting the ball 400+ yards!!!!
I am sure the best workouts ebooks you can download from Unflexal. Just google Unflexal:D
Lateral duck walk.trying no to laugh optional.
Keep vids coming, your helping me lower handicap.
here’s several suggestions for how to play golf better
Keep fit
Position your feet correctly
Learn the correct body posture
(I read these and why they work on Gavs Golf Tactic site )
Awesome video gonna give this a go I’m trying to qualify for the open this year so this will fit great into my routine keep the great videos coming
These are great!! Question should we do them from both sides?
I am going to try that squeezy plank in the evening. I think I will be able to hold it for 7 seconds!
All excellent exercises. I was a little surprised, you did very little for the groin. I suffer from both lower back and groin: the first because I’m probably not solid enough on my legs and the second, due to shear forces pulling through with the legs. I’m going to do your exercises everyday but continue looking for groin help.
I’m 77, think these exercises are awesome… now if you could help me with my putting…

I wonder how Nicklaus, Hogan, Watson, Trevino, and Palmer won multiple majors, and avoiding golf injuries without these crazy Machinations? Lol…Bullshit
Nice practice for the body Im 66 playing from 12 very curieus whatthis will do to my game…tanx
Many thanks, I am in my 70’s and it should make a difference
Great videos! What exactly does the duck walk do? That’s the one I didn’t understand.
Clearly just copied from the Nike fitness app. You can get rorys workout and many more on there…
This looks like something I should thanks for the straightforward simple explanation of each exercise, how many reps would you recommend?
Thanks for these. About half way thru you stop instructing how many times to preform the exercise, and how many reps….Thx, Mike.
great…I’m in my 60s…fairly flexible…female…any help would be appreciated.
Good advice! I’ll definitely fit these into my routine
I cannot thank you enough nor praise this presentation enough. Great, doable exercises for EVERYONE.
Sadly I can’t do any exercises that involve being on my knees. They lock.
Great video, I’m 70 years old and I think this will help with a problem that as just happened. Thank you.
How the hell do you call that a row but ur not pulling but pushing. Gtfo
Tried these and am looking forward to improving flexibility and strength! Any suggestions for strength building after lead leg-knee meniscus repair surgery? I want to be ready for spring golf! Thanks in advance!
My game improved dramatically when I started using a Concept 2 rowing machine 3 times a week. I started off with rowing 2k per session, then moved to 5k, and then 10k. It took me almost 1 year to build up enough strength and stamina to row / erg 10k in under 42 minutes. I’ve been rowing/erging for the past 4 years I’m 58. I’m hitting the ball farther my hand strength has increased dramatically. Hand strength is critical for hitting solid, controlled shots.
I wanted to see Rory working out, not this string bean who’s never lifted anything heavier than his fork.
I will be in the gym doing these tomorrow. Thanks from this 54 year old 😉
I am 76 yrs. old and my question is can I do these dumbbell and non-dumbbell (6 total) workout everyday?
My calves are very tight and walking is really feeling that tightness. I do stretch. Any suggestions.
first one is not a good one for people with knee replacements
Thats the exact same workout than the one on Nike Training app
Thank you I’m pretty flexible but had a shoulder injury. I think these can help me prepare for my Monday qualifiers for PGA Champions Tour, thank you much for the added tips.
Yes yes thanks so much for your time and expertise; male golfer 67!
Here are simple exercises to do people are finding it very good:
https://bit.ly/2OJqaFH
I’m investigating how to play golf better and discovered a fantastic resource at Gavs Golf Tactic (google it if you’re interested)
Great exercises. Thanks for putting this together. The video is going right into my Golf References playlist.
I’ve been studying how to play golf better and found a fantastic resource at Gavs golf tactic (look it up on google)
I like the video and the routine. My personal practice is less reps and moving slower. It is more difficult to move slow. When you practice moving slowly it becomes easier to move fast when you need to. Cheers!
This will be my workout routine. Along with some exercises for the biceps and triceps.
Any kettlebell exercises you can recommend? Already doing cleans, presses, front squats, snatches, but are there are more/better golf specific ones?
Great stuff! Like you sharing alternate moves within exercises.Play your best.
Great exercise for golfers, I try them today. Do you have a exercise for down swing and follow through also to work on flexibility. Thanks
Hey Jeff, just found this vid, excellent stuff. I can do them all but plan to start incorporating regularly and slowly increase time and or reps and will do for my warm up before I play as I feel it fires everything up
TY!!
Great exercises, thank you! I wish you would do an entire workout so that we can follow you, like a class.
Ok. Downloaded the Rory workout… Holy crap that kicked my butt.
Rob McGarr How many times a week do you think Rory does this workout??? Hopefully he wasn’t put in this video with Nike for the purpose of just “being there”…just because he’s an ambassador for Nike Golf. I hope he genuinely does this routine more often than not.
I cant stress enough how much leg workouts will help ur stability in ur swing. Doing ab and core work outs helped distance and actually helped me stay more stable in my putting stroke. Arm workouts seem to really help control my club path. I just avoid the chest work outs usually, bulking that part seems to inhibit my flexibility but I’m so glad I started working out for golf finally
Matt your videos are great BUT…… you need to wear a microphone on you instead having the camera microphone. You gym is like a echo chamber! It’s really hard to watch even with great content!
I’m 53 and a keen, male golfer. Just went through a full set of these excercises (2-3 sets of 10 reps, held the two different planks for 30s each time) and if done exactly as instructed here, this is pretty tough. And I am certain it will help my swing (and most likely also my posture in general). Give this 10-12 min per day and you will feel a lot more stable through the swing than before. Of that I am certain.
Strengthening the glutes is the number one thing all golfers need when over 50 or any other age for that matter
hi everyone,if anyone else trying to find out golf teaching aids try Magonsi Amazing Golf Expert (should be on google have a look )? Ive heard some super things about it and my brother in law got cool results with it.
I’ve absolute total respect for anyone who can do 10 “proper” unassisted pull-ups
Hi Jeff nice video thank you. Just a question!,,, can bad posture effect you from doing a 90 degree shoulder turn and left arm bending in the backswing? I also tend to want to lift in my backswing or dip in my transition to compensate. If I get into my golf poster with a golf club across my shoulders I can nearly get a full shoulder turn but when I swing a golf club using my arms its then I strudel, lifting and bending my left arm. What exercises would you recommend. Also i am 59 years old and my confidence of ever being flexible to play golf is making me to want to give up. Is it possible to get flexible enough to play good golf at my age. Thank you and your team in all your help.
Mcilroy should focus on his golf rather than his workouts. Guess what your a golfer not a olympic athlete. Majors have dried up since he wanted to become an “Athlete”
How often weekly do you recommend I do this workout? Thanks!
