So, in terms of accuracy, we can say that MyFitnessPal is accurate, but many variables can affect its accuracy.
Fitness trackers are hugely popular now and they help us to count our steps, measure our heart rates, and record all of our daily activity. Whether you use a smartwatch or a simple fitness band. The Fitbit Surge [ View on Amazon] scored the best in the calorie burn, referred to as energy expenditure (EE) test. Its estimated error for EE was 27.4%. The PulseOn was off by 92.6% in the study.
Interestingly, the lowest relative error for all of the devices was for walking and running calories and worse for rest calories. In a lab test of seven fitness trackers, two of the devices the BodyMedia Fit, and the Fitbit Zip came out on top in terms of their accuracy. The Accuracy of Fitness Bands: How 7.Now there has been question marks over the reliability of how accurate fitness trackers are at providing estimated calorie burned data, so we’ve broken down how.In the study, researchers tested the heart rate and calorie measurements from seven popular fitness trackers: the Apple Watch, Basis Peak, Fitbit Surge, Microsoft Band.
Fitness trackers accurately measure heart rate but not calories burned A Stanford inquiry into the accuracy of seven wristband activity monitors showed that six out of seven devices measured heart rate within 5 percent. None, however, measured energy expenditure well. May 24 2017.According to Dr. John Porcari from the University of Wisconsin in La Crosse, calorie counters on fitness machines can be as much as 25 to 30 percent over or under your actual burn rate.

Ignore the trackers, the big question is where did that moustache disappear to during the video? 😉
Is it measure the burning calories when we do different exercises??
3:30 the Mi band 3, does it count steps even if I am not carrying the phone?
Why are there so many Indian reviewers for these budget fitness bands
I bought my MS Band 2 just two days ago before I read any reviews, which is not like me, and it appears I made the right choice.
Can we pair Mi neckband and Mi band 4 at the same time to Redmi note 7 pro?
Watching a review video of a fitness band while eating fried chicken.
Does mi band 4 screen recognises water drop as touch, as I read it on Reddit. Please confirm it I highly appreciate your efforts of unbiased review
nice review.. what about the build!? since the screen is plastic as previous one’s does it get scuffed or scratched easily..?
Nice review! Will Mi launch NFC version in India. Is it worth buying with NFC in India.
i am not receiving any app alert…….plzz help……i have changed all the privacy settings…..still i am not receiving any notifications……i b8 it yesterday only…….i ws recvng notifications initially but all of a sudden am not getting any
Is there any difference in chinese and international version? If i buy a chinese version, can i use it properly? Bcs chinese version available at a price of 2500…please answer
Does it count calories when you’re doing any exercise or does it only counts them if you’re walking?
Thank you. I will get MS B 2 on the back of your assessment.

Bro which tempered glass you use for your op6, can you share the link
Bro u start ur channel in hindi language also,, it’s help lots of people
Proud MS Band 2 owner here. Works flawlessly with my Lumia 950XL. Definitely glad I chose it as my first fitness tracker/smartwatch hybrid
Bro in sunlight I see purple color band in bottom of display is this common issue?
Watching your video for the first time. One thing that I noticed immediately was that you were flexing your wrist ever 2 secs. Try not to do that. It’s distracting.
Good luck:) nice video!
Super sidd
I like Ur channel tech Reflex
You give most accurate review. You should start doing Smartphone review too.
Hi, if possible can you check if iOS can directly access Mi Band 4 as a health source instead of going through the Mi Fit app? Apparently the Mi Band 3 can do that: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/8564630
Thank you guys for this research, I were looking it for a long time. But Can you put more products to your researches like Xiaomi Band 2 or something like that (cheap versions). So It can be a collapse to try buying something apple or windows thing in 3rd world countries.
Of course that fat fuck wants to eat more!!! It shows my guy, it shows!!!
Wow Garmin vivo sucks I was going to buy one but thanks god I saw this video!
Sir, i have made a GAMING PC BUILD after seeing your videos and I’m one of your old subscriber, i would love if you would take a look at my build video on my channel ❤️♥️♥️♥️❤️❤️
Loved this. I wish you had also the inbody band 2 thrown in the mix too.
Apple Watch is not a simple sport band, it’s a full blown functional smartwatch.
Sad that the MS band was the most accurate and now they stopped making them:-(
well hard to say…we can find different videos which say different things about trackers..im new owner on fitbit and would like to be see really independent review….any of this videos around can be just commercial -advertising for each tracker..i will try my on gym while running and see
I loved my Microsoft Band 1 and Band 2. I have since owned a FitBit Blaze, Apple Watch, Apple Watch Series 1 and a Samsung Gear S3 Frontier. What do I put on every day in July 2017? Microsoft Band 2. In addition to the other items discussed in this video, I feel that Sleep tracking is more accurate as well and as someone with Sleep Apnea, that is very important to me.
On the fit bit you can add age weight gender etc… did they check that or not
Sadly my Microsoft Band 1 got lost and currently prices are horrendous on the Band 2 which I’d love to have. I was looking at current reviews and the Band 2 is still the best for me with still the most sensors, features and looks but hard to get these days. I was shocked that supposed to be topnotch products like the “new” Fitbit Charge 2 doesn’t even include a GPS and requires a phone for that.
Could you make such comparison again with current products like the Fitbit Charge 2, Samsung Gearfit 2, etc.?
i would keep the ms band 2 if the band didnt fall apart so quickly or a way to replace them.
Thx u for the fantastic review.. I had a fitbit charge HR for 2 months and am pleased with the simple data it provides. I laugh when I ride the elevator because of my knee sx and the charge HR gave me credit for those 2 flights.
I just bought the MS Band 2.. Looking forward to it since it has so much more capabilities and information to display. Bigger screen will be a huge plus. I know battery life will take a hit but happy for the trade off of extra info.
this is totally bullshit video, just but buy any of them and compare their result to treadmill in your gym
In terms of accuracy, I’d say the MS band won. Overall though, the Apple Watch definitely won. It’s the second most accurate and it can be worn to exercise or can even be paired with a suit (depending the band you wear)
MS band 2 was clearly the winner but it was like it was paining them to say it was the best. They said at the end that the Apple watch and MS band were nearly hitting the nail on the head. No, the MS band did hit the nail on the head.
I assume that stride distance for running and walking were calibrated properly (it is a scientific experiment after all)?
Dude, I’ve been waiting for this video for so long. I’m in China, so couldn’t properly keep track of your videos. Cool B rolls, and nice muscles.
So would I be correct in saying the MS Band 2 was the most accurate one? It seem to get the results nearly spot on every time.
All Microsoft products are just better including phones. Microsoft just needs to learn that their customers come before others. So they need to focus on people who bought Lumias not the itoys
What sort of statistical sampling method was used to test the products? How many individuals were used to test the products and, in particular, how many of *each product* were tested? Did you just test one FitBit, one MS Band, etc? There will be variance in individuals and products. One can partial out the variance attributable to individuals and the products. I’m curious how much statistical variance is accounted for by the product itself. You’re really not truly measuring accuracy (nor precision) if you only sample one unit of each product. Robust statistical sampling methods matter, which I am willing to bet will be an issue in the American lawsuits mentioned at the beginning of the video….
What they failed to say was “Microsoft Band 2 came out as the winner”… Not Apple watch which doesn’t even have a god damn watch that always displays… and doesn’t track your sleep, and doesn’t give you enough detail on steps etc in terms of time.
I just switched from Fitbit to MSB2. I don’t know how my Band calculates daily calorie burn. 1290kcal with 4.9 miles walking?? That is only 100kcal or so above my BMR. (5’3″, 109lbs, 16.5 percent body fat) Is it defective or am I doing something wrong?
Kieran Hahaha most used name in UK. And my old best friend name is Kieran and his dad is from UK.
This video Is from Jan. MS has done even more to update the band to be more accurate and track more activities. I love the band. I was using Fitbit for about a year. I didn’t see much in the way of results. I started using MS band 1 then 2. Ive lost 25lbs since starting with the band 1. I’m convinced the accuracy of these band was a major contributing componet of my weight loss.
this is exactly what i was looking for.. thank you for the work and effort
Wow, I’m surprised that the Garmin device didn’t have accurate data. Do you think their expensive running watches are more accurate?
We tested at Fitness Guru’s professional facility in as scientific a way possible. Although we recognise we would need to carry out longer, repeated tests to give a fully accurate analysis of these fitness trackers, we feel the results are of interest and worth sharing with you guys. To see how we tested the trackers watch this! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U5-tz2S_CSc
id like to see a comparison between Fitbit blaze, apple watch and Microsoft band 2
Half ass tests. Haters. Ive lost a shit ton of weight using my fitbit blaze. And i compete
Good review, well produced. Especially like the graphics. Love my MS Band 2, definitely recommend it to others. Would love to see this experiment carried about multiple times, in multiple places, to really nail down the conclusions, but of course we all have our dreams in life.
On the Microsoft Band, the two metal sensors that sense galvanic skin response give me a rash so I had to return it. That bummed me out because I LOVED that thing. Now I’m using an Apple Watch Sport and so far so good, although I NEED much better sleep tracking.
At any rate, GREAT review, thumbs up and subscription as a result.
getting a fitbit. since i just need it for heart rate and steps count.
thank you for your great effort for clearing the picture for us
great video! Came from Jeff nippards channel. Been binging a ton of your content: very good stuff! Keep it up’
They are wearing the Microsoft Band 2 inside out… and still it performs the best. Great
Lol guys. It seems like you don’t want to declare a clear winner… When it is obviously shown by the results.
Now I wouldn’t go as far as to accuse you of being Apple fanboys because that would be a bit presumptuous and-oh hey, nice iphone 6S+ you got there @ 5:18!
Hahaha, Apple fanboys!
Strange dt nowdays one needs a display to see how much they walked or what thwir heart rate is or complex algorithm to tell them its ok to spend so much money on these rather then spending dt on good food.
I really like my Apple Watch and it is keeping me motivated to reach my “move” goal (1000 active calories a day). Runtastic Pro works great with the Apple Watch for my outdoor runs. Looking forward to see what is in store for the Apple Watch 2. I lost over 70 pounds so far:)
What wrist device do you recommend that is best for step tracking? That’s the only one I’m tracking
The graphic displaying the 4 devices at the:50sec mark. You’ve mixed up the Garmin Vivosmart and the Microsoft Band.
MS have the best PC OS, the best smart phone OS (sadly not the most sold), and also the best gadgets
Bro I do gym daily for body building … Will this watch help me.. I don’t want to calculate running on a treadmill while lifting the weight will it calculate the burn calories in that case?? If yes plz.. tell me broo….
Awesome, can you also make a video of Honor Band 5 free training mode for gym purpose.
I’m pretty impressed with Microsoft Band 2, I will save up some money
Imagine that, Americans suing deceptive and unscrupulous manufacturers for false advertising. Good for them. I imagine you support immoral business practices.
I have the fitbit charge hr, here are my results:
1. The heat rate is very accurate, I have tested it compared to manual pulse and to the running machine in the gym, the most difference I found was +4 BPM.
2. I have compared the distance measured with a gps it was really close.
After a run of 6 KM, the fitbit showed 6.09 KM, impressively close.
3. Overall I am very satisfied, it’s very comfortable to wear.
The only serious down side is that it’s not waterproof, only splash proof, you can’t use it for tracking swimming…
like it as usual, i would love for you to answer this question for me:
I wonder wheter it makes a difference in gains (muscle and fat) if you consume 200 plus calories on a daily basis or 200 calories under your daily needed calories and then have one cheat day a week instead. So that the weekly calories in both scenarios are the same but just spreaded differently. Do these two approaches have vastly different results when bulking or is the weekly surplus in calories what counts?
I don’t think design issues such as reporting inflated Calories Burned is ever a moot point in all such situations, the user is learning (whether formally or via an intuitive understanding of reality). Why deliberately send false data??? If your algorithm does not spit out a Calorie Count, then do not display it as such!! Instead, name it something pseudo-sciency, like Nike Fuel or Misfit Points.
Please, if you can, add the Pebble 2 onto the list, there are a lot of reviews out there but none as details and throughout as yours, thank you very much
Interesting that you were in a car and hit a significant amount of steps. I wear a fitbit while driving and do get some steps, but nothing significant (like 10 additional steps in a 10 minute drive out of a 10,000 step day). Although steps counted are never going to be 100% accurate to the actual amount of steps I take, I do find them relatively accurate to the device itself. If my goal is to maintain weight and I take 10,000 steps per day and eat 2000 calories per day, and I do maintain weight based on weekly averages, I’d say that’s not a bad way to go to compare steps (giving a general idea of total daily EE instead of using the EE in calories on the tracker) to calories consumed. If I decided I wanted to lose weight and increased my steps to 12,000 and continued to eat 2,000 calories per day, I would most likely lose weight based on weekly averages in the long-run.
Just something for those to lurk in the comments section to ponder. I’ve used this technique myself and with several clients, having success with those who tracked accurately and consistently, but would like to see a controlled study on this someday. If there are some already, feel free to let me know!
I use one and only use it as a guide, however I lost over 100lbs, 2 years ago. I been able to keep off the weight and linking it to my my fitness pal, give me a nice tool. I have to say it does and did help me keep things in perspective.
Well using one since 2 months.. only problem is while you do strength training / weight training we need to press the button manually and most of the time i forget while i am on the pump.
Yeah my Fitbit Ionic sucks at measuring heart rates, it always gets it wrong no matter where I wear it and how tight or loosen I wear it.
Hey Ben Thankst you covered this topic I wanted to ask if you’re neat in the form of steps is high around 10-12k whilst being in a caloric deficit. Is there any need of cardio to be done additionally?
can you do the same comparison with: microsoft band 2 VS tomtom spark HR vs garmin 235?
Nice topic Ben. What I believe is that we should focus more on calorie intake as we can have a check on that and accurately calculate it, rather than assuming some x number of calories burnt using these fitness trackers
