Thank you Rupi, each and every word of yours has been resonating with my philosophy of nourishment and preventative action through our wholesome food. As an Indian dietitian and practicing NZ Registered nutritionist, always believed in power of FOOD as PRANA Shakti which not only nourish our body, but also mind and our soul. It has been such a delight to hear this from a Doctor. Indeed much needed good health and wellbeing, bright future for all
Wonderful content, is there any document covering the tipic? God blesd you. Thank you
There is a plethora of evidence pro high fat diet on YouTube.
I was a vegan for 5 years and my body got screwed royally.
I am from India and like many other nations we are heavily influenced by US dietary Guidelines
Meat has changed dramatically (antibiotics, hormones, gmo diet). We can’t compare meat eaters of today to meat eaters of 50 years ago.
Great plz add some more content related to nutrition and dietetics
Is why my blood sugar is high lately I’m not snack I eat dinner at 7 go to bed 9 or 10 and my breakfast is around 10am
Everybody knows that they resist any evidence based guidelines because they want to support their own agenda.
The governor of Colorado is reputed to be vegetarian or vegan. His recent photos look horrible. No hope for help from him. I emailed him a while back. No reply whatsoever and I didn’t even mention meat.
I’m a simple man. I see a video with Nina Teicholz, I watch, like, and subscribe.
But seriously, everyone needs to support The Nutrition Coalition. They are doing the work we desperately need.
Love Rupy’s message. Your body is your temple, must provide it good nourishment. Let go of the past habits and the cravings…
I was enjoying the talk until about the 12 min mark, when she said our parents and grandparents probably exercised less than we do because there were no gyms/ LMAO, my grandmother woke up before he 11 children to start the wood burner, the only heat in the whole house, before her kids woke up. She also heated up water and dumped into a big washtub in the middle of the room, once a week for baths which were done youngest to oldest in the same water. So, Nina is correct they didn’t have gyms, but they did WAAAAYYYY more physical labor than we do. We drive to the gym, look for a close parking spot which always makes me laugh and then workout hard for an hour or even 2 no comparison to the “old timers”. I am only 58 and my grandparents worked very very hard
Us style diet guideline trying to say meditarienien diet is similar to their recomendstion, but it is not. They have no clue how the meditarienien diet looks like. Go there and see.
This is where and why we have guidelines
https://youtu.be/p0VwjsZJmYo
I’m thankful to Nina and the others who are fighting this uphill battle. Change is inevitable, it’s just a matter of how long it takes.
As an RN I will implement your ideas presented into what I do. I have lost 40 lbs. since January, 2019 on a ketogenic low carbohydrate diet and I just subscribed to your channel. Thank You!
Thank you for the work you do! This is one of the most important policy issues we face in this nation. It impacts the environment, poverty, healthcare, education, mental health, our economy, and the list goes on. It reverberates across so many other policies!
YES!! This is everything I teach in Food Freedom. No wonder Rupy is one of my favourite doctors. We need more of his colleagues recognising the power of food for health
None of the longest living people in the Blue Zones are low carb.
Wait. She list, fruits, vegetables, and whole grains and then shows examples of processed food. Does she understand the difference between whole food and ultra processed and refined food?
I am so glad my partner sent me some videos that started all this understanding and change… After more than ten years of feeling helpless and tired I am finally getting better and losing weight. Just this morning I couldn’t find any pants to wear to work that are not too big (I only have one pair of okay size that are dirty). And the payday is in two days… It sucks, but I just love having this kind of problem:D
Wonderful! Also part of a healthy lifestyle is exercising. It is as important.
Excellent and such an important message. I hope the Coronavirus crisis will persuade politicians of the real need to support a major change in our food systems. We need to reempower farmers and growers, reduce the role of multinational conglomerates whose interventions generally raise prices while lowering nutritional value, and ensure that everyone, whatever their income, has access to tasty and nutritious food. Not easy but we have to try.
That is just fantastic, eat shit and exercise all day just to keep on rolling, really “efficient”!
What is curing your health mean? The SAD diet is a high fat, processed carbs diet.
Finally some progress on this issue, what a great person Nina Teicholz is.
I love Nina. She thinks on her feet so well. She’s a great presenter. She’s so pretty.
Military food is crap too. They ration the meat but you can have all the bread and “Powerade” you want. Then they wonder how there are fat servicemen when you do 10 hours a week of ridiculous exercise routines. Their answer: more back breaking, obsolescent exercise. Just sayin’.
How does what you advocate compare with a Whole Food Plant-Based diet where no oil or sugar is added? This is where fats and oils contribute only 10% of the calories. Most of the calories are from starches and sugars naturally in the vegetables and fruits. Many people including me are having success with this diet.
So in other words… the “guidelines” are not guides theyre LAW that simply says X is true because its what a state and governmental institution says is true.
Color me, unsopriced.
PS. Also i guess she really CUT the fat out of these diets, especially the Mediterranean 😉
I can vouch for what he is preaching. In the past i used to eat healthy and workout, then i drifted my focus towards making money and working hard, i still worked out but little by little i started neglecting my diet so my weight kept bounching up and down.
In the past year, with every meal i would eat, regardless of what it was, i always add a salad, some tomatoes cucumbers red onion lettuce and a little vinegar and i must say that indeed my weight has stabilized, i do have more energy but now eventho i’m heavier than i used to be (now at 88kg), i feel more agile, flexible, i don’t run out of breath like i used to.
So people, make small changes, add a salad, eat an apple, baby steps. Stay healthy because no-one will take care of you like yourself.
“Medicine is NOT healthcare.
FOOD is HEALTHCARE.
MEDICINE is SICK CARE.”
someone I don’t know
Time to correct her again:
People are not following the guidelines.
Consumption of animal foods have not gone down. It went up. Teicholz is using mathematical illiteracy of the public for her own argument. RELATIVE percentages are not ABSOLUTE values.
People eat more meat, more cheese, more fat. Sure, white flour and sugar went up HIGHER as a percentage of diet portfolio, but that does not diminish increases in animal foods. Yes, the pace is slower (that is why relative percentages changed). But it’s still positive and quite significant. For example absolute per capita meat consumption in US peaked around 2007.

In the 1960
And by the way eating french fries does not equal vegetables and healthy fats. Any serious nutritionist would rip her data apart in seconds.
lost 65lbs eating low carb & am back to my college weight. only rarely hungry anymore after eliminating all fake foods & eating only real food. lost all interest in junk food & that is really amazing for a former junk food addict.
The Brits a nation of Johnny come latelies. If people like this doctor are going to succeed Bill Gates is not gonna like this.
Great talk I’m starting to think lack of fiber is the biggest issue for most people
Low carb for weightloss. High animal protein and fat for health and longevity.
my grocery store just started carrying mayo with 100 pct avocado oil and 100 pct coconut oil. I was shocked but encouraged to see this. If you find them in your grocery, buy them so that they become cheaper and more widely available.
Very informative and well articulated. Being a recent graduate of Bristol University and competing in the Boxing team, my nutritional diet allowed me to compete at an optimal level whilst balancing my final year workload. The ideas are similar to Dr Joel Fuhrman. Food is medicine!
I’m looking forward to a YEAR long KETO (with zero seed oil under 2000 calories) diet trial results ♥️
Food has the power to define your genetic expression. This means it impacts the quality and quantity of life itself expressed in you. Let’s choose to do right by our health!
Religious beliefs should have no say in our Dietary Guidelines! Who picks these people for the Committee?
Great talk Nina, putting these studies in an easy to understand format for policy makers.
I am so glad somebody is working on getting the guidelines changed. I am Canadian, and when our new food guide came out I was appalled..if I ate the way it recommended I would probably not survive, being a person with a history of autoimmune and Crohn’s being one of them….It’s totally dangerous for many people to follow the food guide and it’s sad that they still pretend it’s a healthy way to eat despite so much conflicting evidence. Another group forced to eat that way are people in hospitals, probably all of whom could benefit from eating a diet low in sugar and carbohydrates and with real nutrition in it. It’s sad how little regard there is for human life and quality of life shown by the people who continue to recommend these knowing full well it’s not a healthy diet.
Slide/study you “cite” at 24:16 says this as a main important result: “The included long-term trials suggested that reducing dietary saturated fat reduced the risk of cardiovascular events by 17%”
WIC allots 30oz of canned fish for breastfeeding mothers per month. But yeah, except for that, eggs and cheese it’s all crap. Cheap crap. Not nearly enough of the good stuff. O, and whole milk until the kids turn two.
We eat very healthy foods, but avoid the “whole grains” mantra. Also most fruits due to sugar content. My wife is a diabetic and I’m pre-diabetic. We use all the spices mentioned and the Omega 3 oils.
Yes, to all of this! Thanks for sharing a wealth of easy to understand information I’m able to pass along to my parents to watch. I’ve been following you online for over a year and cooking out of your books. As a lifelong vegetarian since 13 years old and healthy eating advocate, I’m hopeful you’ll inspire more doctors to inform their patients about the best preventative medicine food. Keep going!!!
I bet….Sugar is not really down. Look for fruit juice, juice concentrate, and purees that stuff is everywhere. They say no sugar added but it’s still a boatload of fructose and its marketed to moms and kids heavily. One juice was bragging like 7 fruit servings in one 8 ounce serving 27g of sugar…….
1 minute in and the first untruth statement is made, “we’ve all ate fruits and veggies.” American eat virtually no fruits and veggies.
Follow the herd, is the motto of journals and popular articles. I have been doing IF since 2014. Took a little time to get it right, but my BMI has gone from 30+ to 23 and I am soon to be 70. All good. Dobar skroz!
I don’t understand why she was rushed through her lecture when what she has to say is the key to making America (and thus the whole world) healthy and disease free. Frankly she should have been given all the time in the world!
This really should be the number one political issue in the U.S. Our food is killing us and the “experts” are not helping the problem. Big pharma and big agriculture should not be dictating policy based on bad science and vested interests.
Ummm…. I just listened to his woman on Youtube…. Ummm…. first off it would be advisable… Ummm…. to sign up for a Toastmasters course… as…. Ummm… it is EXTREMELY difficult to listen to… Ummm… the continuos break in the… Ummm… converstation. And… Ummm…. the fake laugh or… Ummm… giggling. Secondly this woman is off the marker. If you REALLY want to debate with actual scientists, then you should sit down with Dr. T. Colin Campbell, Ph.D. and Caldwell Esselstyn, MD. Sorry but this woman if off her rocker!
The Canadian Food Guide just changed recently to a lower carb diet with more veggies, although it’s a far cry from LCHF diets it’s a step in the right direction versus the US which is just terrible. And before anyone wants to get on my case I have lost over 200lbs on LCHF when all other diets failed. I also reversed my Type 2 diabetes needing medication to 0 medication after one week on the diet and corrected my high cholesterol within a few months eating bacon, butter, fatty meats but with the absence of any carbs. I’m a believer. My spouse with Type-2 (skinny as a rake though) did it as well and is now no longer type-2 diabetic requiring meds.
Excellent Information . #Yes2Meat. #MeatHeals. .
i am not pro or con about her opinion on meat and fat but she doesnt look overly healthy to me
I am with you in your fight Nina!! The guidelines need to be changed and updated!!
0:19 lol, that was the most excited reaction I’ve ever heard to a follow on twitter.
Why do WIC eggs have to be white? There is no difference between brown and white.
This is amazing! As a medical student, I wish my school had a culinary medicine course… in fact I may just try to help implement that during my last year. I started a YouTube channel for my future patients and it’s focus is going to be on lifestyle change like nutrition!
Where can we get the PowerPoint used in this presentation. It’s great! I’ve been looking for help with nutrition for 10 years. Thank you.
Brilliant talk! Passionate and powerful! We would be healthier and the NHS would work so much better is we could really put lifestyle at the core of our thinking and not just treat the symptoms of disease. Rupy’s recipes are great too well worth reading his books (or follow on Instagram etc if you do social media) to get healing doses of his enthusiasms and insights. Thank you for doing this talk!
I was an organic food vegetarian for decades and ended up with borderline metabolic syndrome.
I worked out a lot with a ton of cardio too.
“Eat less, avoid fat & red meat, and move more” -was taken from my Dr’s arsenal of blame.
She was surprised when I reversed my Type 2 diabetes on keto, etc…
great video from one of my favourite lifestyle medicine medics
Finally someone comes in with a fresh and neutral view on foods and health. Trying to compliment all health professionals, and not argue about who’s “right” and who’s “wrong”! Awesome work Rupykeep going
Dr Aujla is doing an incredible work in social media promoting this approach. Finally getting the medical profession concerned about nutrition and not just prescribing drugs for everything,
Excellent presentation. As a dietitian I enjoyed it. Especially liked how he spoke about the food environment and determinants of health.
Monsanto and glycophosate and chemical desiccants in commercial harvesting of fruits veg and GRAINS destroy gut biome. The fats are hidden everywhere. if it comes in a pkg, you can’t eat it
Yes all of America has followed the dietary guidelines, that’s why fast food, alcohol sales and restaurants make billions of dollars yearly. Blaming Bad hair on the dietary guidelines, is that a bio marker for health?
So the AMA promotes guidelines that will insure an unhealthy population thus creating vast, unlimited numbers of potential patients.. Great business model for them.. terrible for Americans as a whole… and individually. I’m sure big pharma is involved here as well… Also, the fitness / weight loss industries… from gyms to food industry to books.. there is a lot of money to be made by a fat, unhealthy population.
tried increasing my exercise. did not lose weight. went low carb and lost weight.
The study from 24:16 “The findings of this updated review are suggestive of a small but potentially important reduction in cardiovascular risk on reduction of saturated fat intake. Replacing the energy from saturated fat with polyunsaturated fat appears to be a useful strategy, and replacement with carbohydrate appears less useful, but effects of replacement with monounsaturated fat were unclear due to inclusion of only one small trial. This effect did not appear to alter by study duration, sex or baseline level of cardiovascular risk. Lifestyle advice to all those at risk of cardiovascular disease and to lower risk population groups should continue to include permanent reduction of dietary saturated fat and partial replacement by unsaturated fats. The ideal type of unsaturated fat is unclear.”
Let me translate that for you: DITCH MEAT not in favor of SUGAR, but in favor of NUTS.
Finally, a Doctor that promotes healthy eating to his patients as an alternative to taking medication.
This was filmed in February, unfortunately the 2020 guidelines did not review low-carb and saturated fats. Color me surprised that they scirted around the issue by selective study inclusion.
The change was made by my husband, when his Osteopath suggested changing his breakfast from sugar cereal to egg beans and kale. His colour has gone from grey to healthy!
This is the type of lecture that should be mandatory viewing in school… pathetic and condemning that it’s not.
So much deception in this talk. How does she sleep at night? Ask yourself, why are the Japanese doing well with their spinning top guidelines? It’s almost identical to the demonized food pyramid. How were people eating the traditional Mediterranean or Asian diets so healthy while eating so many carbs? How were traditional subsistence farmers eating lots carbs so thin and healthy? What about the Blue Zones populations?
Were Americans really eating traditional Asian or Mediterranean meals with whole starches and vegetables? Or were they eating donuts and potato chips and white-flour and Domino’s pizza and french fries and soda and ice-cream and Entenmann’s fat-free cookies and salads drowning in Hidden Valley Ranch dressing?
Nice analysis. I live in Europe but it’s the same here. Diabetes, obesitas, cardio vascular disease and brain related diseases as alzheimer’s and dementia are on the rise like never before. Dietary guidelines and Big Food go hand in hand. Go Nina, go!!
Good video. We are being fed horse hockey. Watch Ivor Cummins video Why the War on Meat? Learn which Protestant denomination declared war to prevent masterbation and how they twist the dietary textbooks and university’s teaching….
Love your info! Nina: Working the “ums” and “ahs” out of your talks would be even better.
Dr Rupy Aujla is amazing… So great to see a mainstream doctor being so forthright about the importance of a (mainly) plant-based diet.
Is fasting blood sugar of 102 mg/dL during gestational diabetes high?
Thank you I have a question if you blood sugar dips in the middle of the night like at 12 am, wouldn’t metformin be a better alternative to glyburide or insulin. I tried insulin and got low blood sugar at 12am to 4am and an allergic reaction to the inactive ingredients so we are working with 750 mg metformin 2x a day to control my fasting blood sugar which ranges from 104 to 113. I got it as low as 100 one time
