Sugar alcohols are found in many items including candy, gum, and baked goods. Despite their name, sugar alcohols are neither sugar nor alcohol. While sweet, they do not impact blood sugar like real table sugar. Foods that contain sugar alcohols are usually labeled as “sugar-free,” “no sugar added,” “low-carb,” or ” keto-friendly.”.
A variety of sugar alcohol types exist in nature. Sugar alcohols can also be manufactured for use in food and pharmaceutical products. Below is a list of commonly used sugar alcohols, their.Several types of sugar alcohols are commonly used as sweeteners.
They differ in taste, calorie content and health impact. Xylitol. Xylitol is the.
Sugar alcohols are sweeteners that have about half the calories of regular sugar. They occur naturally in certain fruits and vegetables, but some are man-made and are added to processed foods. There are many types of sugar alcohols now used in commonly eaten foods. Some types include: xylitol, erythritol, sorbitol/glucitol, lactitol, isomalt, maltitol, mannitol, glycerol/glycerin, and hydrogenated starch hydrolysates (HSH).
Sorbitol is one of the harsher sugar alcohols on your digestive system. While there aren’t specific recommendations for every type of sugar alcohol, a limit of 50 grams is a wise quantity to apply across the board. Should you include sugar alcohols in your diet as a person with diabetes? This is a very personal decision.Sugar alcohols are a type of low-calorie sweetener that’s often used in “diet” and “sugar-free” foods.
These sweeteners usually end in “-ol.” Examples include erythritol, sorbitol, and xylitol.Sugar alcohols are naturally found in plants and berries. The types most often used in the food industry are synthetically created. You can find them in food products that are labeled as.
If you’re trying to cut back on sugar, you may wonder whether the type of sugar matters. Sucrose, glucose and fructose are three types of sugar that. How sugar actually affects heart health is not completely understood, but it appears to have several indirect connections. For instance, high amounts of sugar overload the liver. “Your liver metabolizes sugar the same way as alcohol, and converts dietary carbohydrates to fat,” says Dr.
Hu.Sugar alcohol is a sweetener that can be found in many low-calorie, diet, and reduced-calorie foods. It provides a taste and texture similar to that of regular table sugar.Sugar alcohols, a sweetener that has about one-half to one-third fewer calories than sugar, are one source of sweet carbohydrates in foods.
They taste and look like sugar, but have fewer calories and are called sugar alcohols because their chemical formula is a mixture of sugar molecules and alcohol molecules. While moderate alcohol use may offer some health benefits, heavy drinking — including binge drinking — has no health benefits. Heavy or high-risk drinking is defined as more than three drinks on any day or more than seven drinks a week for women and for men older than age 65, and more than four drinks on any day or more than 14 drinks a.We’ve reported on many scientific studies that look at the relationship between alcohol and diabetes and other blood sugar–related health concerns. Most recently, a paper from a study on wine and type 2 diabetes suggested that those with the disease might experience benefits if they switch from abstention to moderate drinking.Sugar alcohols (also called polyhydric alcohols, polyalcohols, alditols or glycitols) are organic compounds, typically derived from sugars, containing one hydroxyl group (–OH) attached to each carbon atom.
They are white, water-soluble solids that can occur naturally or be produced industrially by hydrogenation of sugars. Since they contain multiple –OH groups, they are classified as polyols.

This is glorious, I have been researching “clean bulk calories calculator” for a while now, and I think this has helped. Have you ever come across Senictoria Bulking Paradise (just google it )? Ive heard some awesome things about it and my cousin got great success with it.
I hav a question, so there is this sugar I hav and I don’t use it, but it’s called Zulka Morena Cane Sugar and it’s only 15 calories and has only 4 carbs per serving, so could I use that on a low carb diet?Otherwise Gr8 Video
This is so stupid. No amount of alcohol is good for health.Stop promoting alcohol
No, he’s quoting well documented evidence, actually. He’s talking about very low moderate daily drinking well within the ability of the liver to handle. I measured out the correct amount that should be taken… its barely half a glass of wine (5oz) with a meal.

Would it be bad to eat sugar alcohol if I need to be away from all sugar?
fun fact: some people are sensitive to certain types of sugar alcohol, like sorbitol. i am one of those people. its uh.. let’s just say that sorbitol gives me the runs for more than a few days…
The information about the sugar alcohols is great thank you but why is it that I should not be eating fatty Meats and you suggest eating lean meats and fish
A little bit fast in the details. What exactly is sugar alchohol, chemically? I can’t remember, it just flashed by…
Caffeine Gum is able to be purchased at most major brand gas stations. Caffeine Gum contains 2mg of sugar alcohol.
I asked the attendant if she knew what sugar alcohol was and she didn’t have a clue.
So I came home just now and Googled sugar alcohol and found this video. Thank You!
He looks like he was really about to laugh, especially after 3:00
When I clicked on this link I was eating a xylitol candy. I didn’t know it was a sugar alcohol till Steven mentioned it.
Just bought a box of Atkins chocolate bars thinking that it would be a good idea to maybe eat these in my times when my insulin is dropping out. On the side of the box it said that it only had two grams of sugar per bar however it has 10 grams of sugar alcohol per bar. Could this be a problem I guess I’ll find out so far it’s kind of helped me in my Panic moment.
Molecule graphics do not show relevant bonding clearly to students. I would explain a little more about the chemical characteristics of a sugar alcohol. It might be helpful to specify exactly the similar characteristics of alcohol, sugar and sugar alcohol molecules.
You know, I’m severely allergic to wheat, oats, cane sugar, chicken, chicken egg whites, Turkey, lemon, orange, avocado and olive (the list goes on) so Even though I can never use your recipes, I enjoy your style of presentation, energy and appreciate that you do real research!! Kudos for making dry information so much fun to watch! Your effort has not gone unnoticed and will pay off
Well this guy missed some major side effects… Migraine sufferers or those with brain injuries can have increased aura or migraine due to these products as they effect neural pathways in the brain differently then sugar.
Here cause I drink prune juice (sorbitol) and wanted to know it’s effects lol
im eating some diabetic cookies i stole from old people today, interesting
Justification for me drinking a monster ultra red a day! sort of. Gonna do more research on the ingredients.
I love erythritol, but it doesn’t taste exactly like sugar. It has a distinct mentholated taste to it like sugar mixed with mint
Wise man once said, if you give a woman 3 glasses or more of wine it increases a chance of a stroke, but If you let her finish the bottle, she might suck on it as well
I wish you did a kind of flour.
There are so many different kinds now and I don’t know which is the best ‘plain’ flour and which is better for different things. Like I just learned that coconut flour has a ‘dry’ affect but I wish I new more.
there’s 2g of sugar alcohol in a 60 piece container of Eclipse gum.
people have been drinking for centuries. screw these studies that have to ruin our fun. one article said that even a sip of alcohol can be very bad for you. F them!
So if a person is trying to substitute sugary sodas, is Stevia safe? The words, “sugar alcohols” is iffy. I am trying to find a good non calorie pop brand with no sugar that is safe. Also, with no artificial sweeteners. Thanks for posting.
What happens to the Cyclamate that is absorbed? You mention it’s not completely absorbed and also that it’s not metabolized. Does it accumulate somewhere? Thanks!
I think this guy like drinking alcohol but he give us good message don’t drink and drive great
oh, and I do have IBS and many digestive issues. I guess I’ve just been blessed to be able to use erythritol.
@ 2:47 Erythritol should just be called “Urethrytol” for the sake of simplicity.
I agree, the issue is that doing the research is where we run into these YouTubers so it makes it harder. Another point I like to make is that the way the economy is working at this time Items for better health is becoming, way too expensive while the garbage foods are cheaper.
The problem with nutrition in general is that performing studies on humans can potentially violate scientific ethics, and you have to control for a lot more variables than you do with lab rats, so it makes studies longer and more complicated with more room for error. And at the rate that all these products are being created, it’s near impossible to study them all and their effects on humans at the same rate, especially with less and less research grants being handed out by the government every year. All human studies rely on volunteers who have to sign a litany of waivers and contracts.
All ur videos are helping me thanks for sharing it hope to c more
I try to avoid that phenylalanine, which I can never pronounce it) and high fructose corn syrup but they’re in so much stuff!
I think it is misleading when a product contains sugar alcohol and it is labeled as sugar free but contains a bunch of kalories anyways
What’s your take on raw sugar? I guess the darker, larger grain sugar?
I’ve stopped consuming processed sugar about a month ago because I had a sugar addiction and my cravings were insane
I think if you have the same problem staying away from anything sweet for a while is good so that you reprogram your brain and taste pallet
Hey I also watch you from México: D no sugar in my coffee. Great video.
Organic Stevia is the BEST sugar / sweetener and then Birch Xylitol— not the corn one. Xylitol is easier for baking
Aspartame is a neuro toxin and there IS research to prove how TOXIC and bad it is.
Honey counts as SUGAR and if you heat honey, then the sugar content rises
ANY VIDEO FOR HOW TO CONTROLL SWEET CRAVING?MOST OF THE SUGAR FREE PROPABLY ADD IN SOME ARTIFICIAL SUGAR?
I like this host, but my favorite host is a tie between the other 3.
NOTHING compares to Sugar, shuga! Youll never become addicted to any of its counterparts.
Well done. Very informative. Also, I respect the fact that yous hare the information you do, without being mean or preachy. Yes, there are trolls, well done for not letting that get to you.
I, personally, have adverse reactions when I eat sucralose, aspartame, and stevia. I also don’t handle sugar alcohols well. The more I avoid them, the more sensitive I am to them. I have not tried monk fruit yet, but, as a general rule, I avoid all 0 calorie sweeteners. When I chew gum (which is rare), I chew gum that is sweetened with real sugar. I also look for brands that do not add any sugar to their products. I buy bread that is sweetened with fruit juice or nothing at all. I only eat unsweetened nut butters (unless I’m having maple almond butter on banana pancakes). I look for sugar on the labels of canned soups and jarred pasta sauces and find other alternatives.
I try to abide by the “buy plain and flavor myself” method. I prefer plain Greek yogurt (full fat). I don’t add sweetener to smoothies (though I occasionally enjoy a protein shake made with Trader Joe’s Vanilla Pea Protein which uses coconut sugar; I use the unsweetened variety if I mix it into smoothies or oatmeal). When I have things like yogurt or oatmeal, I use fruit to sweeten, but I’ll also add honey or maple syrup. I have no problem with table sugar, but I prefer not to use it myself. (I’ll let manufacturers do that for me).
That being said, I still buy sweetened yogurt at time, but I go for varieties like Siggi’s that use LESS sugar.
Ok alcoholism can lead to depression. But what if im so depressed and take a drink for like few days and im better for a while?
So, by process of elimination I found out years ago that I get an allergic reaction to ingesting sugar alcohols, mainly sorbitol. It’s basically a terrible hangover, complete with migraines, nausea, and vomiting. I’ve got to steer clear of sugar-free chewing gum as well as anything marked “low sugar” or “diet.”
I think we are lucky that in Australia we have basically no products with corn syrup let alone HFCS, but I totally agree with you, everything in moderation and no food should be feared. I eat a mix of a lot of these.
Bruh men can drink two glasses but we can’t, such sexists looool
dammit I just bought a whole bottle of agave ♀️♀️♀️
Thank you very much for taking the time to make this video. I have done a lot of research on sweeteners and your video is the most comprehensive and unbiased
Love your videos! They’re amazing. I have to control my consumption pf artificial sugars. I lost a lot of weight and I’m afraid. I love sweets and of course my coffee too.
as someone who eats foods with sugar alcohol. It definitely helps you poop. Don’t overdose.cause it’s no fun to stay on a toilet all day.
Well, I think the appeal of agave is that since it’s sweeter than honey, you can use less of it to get that same sweetness, plus it appeals to vegans since it’s an organic product.
Omg you seem so nice I wish everyone would be like you so it would be easy to talk to them logically
very helpful… I appreciate your approach here, non-judgmental “here’s the info, do as you will with it.” Watching a 20 min. video versus doing hours of my own research was very welcome! Thanks for doing the leg work for us! lol. My personal takeaway is that I think I might try replacing some of my splenda with monkfruit and see how I like it…
Vegetable glycerin is a sugar alcohol but i’ve never seen it as a powder. I use it to sweeten everything and its sickeningly sweet so its perfect for me. Its also good for baking as it makes cookies chewy and cake moist. I’ve also noticed my teeth don’t build up much plaque at the end of the day and I feel much healthier and lost a ton of weight this past year.
He is right.. he couldn’t explain it any better yet look at all the ignorant comments.. who sez ignorance is a bliss
like you guys told smoking is good for your health in the 90s lol.
Ahh. This video reminded me of the 5 lb Haribo Sugarless Gummi Bears reviews on Amazon. Now listed as Albanese Candy, Sugar Free Assorted Fruit Gummi Bears, 5-pound Bag on Amazon. So much fun reading….
Hmmmm…
Zero kilocalories = a bit of diarrhea
I say that’s a good trade!
Very good video. Suscanat is another option (dehydrated cane juice) has a carmel-y taste and is relatively unprocessed. I’ve heard tastes closest to coconut sugar to others. I think it’s good in coffee, unlike something like honey, which to me does not go with coffee. Same problems as honey, maple syrup, etc.
Does the monkfruit sweetener taste better than stevia? I couldn’t handle the stevia taste.
LOVE this channel & messaging! Thanks again for another great video
Some sugar alcohols can also kill your dogs in even very small amounts. Check label on your peanut butter before giving it to your dog or using it to make dog treats.
A comment on the rat studies with artificial sweeteners: the rats were given the chemicals (aspartame/saccharine) directly, not through products. Basically, this means they were given the equivalent of thousands of cans of Coke. What I’m trying to say is take those rat studies with a grain of salt because the cancer results were with amounts of artificial sweeteners that are more than anyone could consume in their lifetime multiple times over
I’ve only watched 2 videos of you and I’ve already subscribed ❤️
Isn’t weight gain (fat-gain) all depending on calorie intake?
I just watched a bunch of your videos and every single one of them is so freaking great and informative. Thank you for the great content!
Oh my goodness, I just wrote on this this last week in my Gluten free and healthy web page. Your angle is excellent! Thank you and good job.
Very informative, thank you for this video. I would like to add that I know of a few persons that used artificial sweeteners and as a result was plagued with migraine headaches, which stopped when they discontinued using the sweeteners.
The MOST important thing about natural sweeteners like coconut sugar is the glicemic index, not the nutrients or the calories!
Hi! I’m watching this one again because I just watched your new sugar comparisons video and needed a refresher on types of sweeteners. I hope people really heard what you said at the end. We should be kind to people, maybe especially when they’re wrong. You’re not going to convince anyone of anything if you make them feel stupid. People forget that they too are flawed. Others deserve the same consideration that they expect to receive when they make mistakes. Nobody knows everything! <3 Great video:-)
This guy is legit. I drink 50 ml of Jack daniels per day since 20 years and my heart health check found 0 issues(i am 50 years old)My arteries sonogram are for someone 20 years younger than me
Also is checked by wikipedia:”The American Heart Association has reported that “More than a dozen prospective studies have demonstrated a consistent, strong, dose-response relation between increasing alcohol consumption and decreasing incidence of CHD (coronary heart disease). The data are similar in men and women in a number of different geographic and ethnic groups. Consumption of one or two drinks per day is associated with a reduction in risk of approximately 30% to 50%”.[24]”
Watching this one in the bathroom after eating a tin of mints containing sorbitol. Not my smartest decision
Mixing sugar alcohol (dark chocolate) into a bar of seeds high in fiber will make it be metabolized differently?
I’m not sure but,if anyone else needs to find out about how many calories do you burn while chewing gum? try Jayceren Fat Result Method (should be on google have a look )? Ive heard some great things about it and my buddy got great success with it.
How much oxalic acid do I need to ingest to have a good chance of dying? I need to know that because of… uh… curiosity…
Nope don’t like anything that’s too sweat and leave sugary taste in me mouth dislike unsubscribe leave hateful comment.
I have a question for Scishow, how did you guys manage to bastardized pop-science into something that is as about as scientific as reality television?
Thank you sooo much for all the information! Learned so much about sugar and will definitely be more careful with sugar intake.
Thank you for doing this video, super informative and you were organized and easy to understand. I love watching your videos and when I get my home I will start to use a lot of your techniques. You are a breath of fresh air and inspire me.
Just found this channel and I am loving it! You’re personality if very much like mine, so I can relate. I like your “this is my opinion, it doesn’t have to be yours” way of presenting. I am learning a lot. This is my new binge channel. I am 58 years old and for the last year have been on a quest to adopt a more whole, plant-based eating lifestyle, with a kinder approach to the environment. I find this info incredibly helpful, so thanks and you do you!
The only whole food sugar is “date sugar.” It is just ground dates. Obviously, there will be some taste besides “sweet,” but that is also true for maple syrup, for example.
Thank you so much for this video. You have cleared up something I have been struggling with for so long. I use 1/2 tsp stevia in my coffee daily and wasn’t sure if I was doing harm. I am not someone who craves sweets but do like my coffee sweetened. All of my research said that there has been no evidence that it is harmful, so I continued.
Awesome work! Thank you so much for all the work you put into this!
Alcohol has no antioxidants, it’s what the alcohol is made out of that contains the antioxidants. Better to just eat that.
I appreciate your presentation here. I like that you present the science and the studies, along with the questions. I like that you do not use terms that are the latest hype. What I know from my 46 years of sugar substitute use is that before they switched off of the sweetener used in soda in the 70’s, possibly cyclamates, my mom and I would get swollen ankles, after the switch neither of us did again. I have drank 2 5 sodas a day for the last 46 years, much being aspartame, and personally have no problem with it. When agave became popular I put that in some things for awhile in which I gained 10 pounds mostly in abdominals area. After I stopped it I manage to loose that. Your video showing the higher load for that made a lot of sense
Halo ice cream has sugar alcohol in it. Is it safe to give to children? I mean safe to sale to the public, but I wonder how safe it really is to eat?
Great non bias video! No click bate, no running long for air time, no bs. Exactly the video i was looking for to educate myself on the different types of sugar. Thank you!
Quran alreadg told us about this
The Quran said alcohol is good and bad but the bad in it overweighs the good so it is forbidden
Some people still don’t know this? –
“Old enough to drink alcohol” HA DON’T TELL ME HOW TO HANDLE MY CRIPPLING DEPRESSION
This is very helpful!! All your videos are!! Thanks for having such a great channel!!
I from Venezuela so you can find the whole leaf of Stevia, we don’t use it for everything but for the after taste DON’T BOILED yes that means that it is more treaky to use in bakery, boil some water and then put the leaf there and add that water to the thing that you are making, and for coffee if you use filter coffee just add the leaf to the coffee beans for sugar
Not American only is sugarholic. My country also known as sugarholic nation despite the people don want to admit and some of them prostesting for sugar tax been implement soon by new gov, that country is Malaysia.
I use stevia, but I never have had any cravings. Though I don’t really like sweets so at most I use a teaspoon in my tea once or twice a day.
I love your channel so informative. I’ve learned so much. I kno I’m two years late. Better late than never!
I have two friends who cannot have fake sugars (I call them that) like the ones you mentioned in this video. They both taste them as really “chemically” and wrong. Maybe you could do a dose on why that may be?
I use blend of Stevia/Erythritol with occasional liquid Splenda that is now available (no dextrose in it) when I bake with excellent results. Better Stevia is an excellent Stevia productit’s the Stevia for people who don’t really like Stevia! They have a lemon flavor that when mixed with fresh lemon and water makes THE best lemonade! They also have other great flavors like vanilla, chocolate, maple, tropical fruit just to name a few.
I just stopped the video to go read some articles about the safety of Sucralose. I did this because I had a jar of sugar free strawberry jam. One article said it was good while the other said it wasn’t good. So then what is the truth? Now I’m kind of concerned of eating a pb& j sandwich….
I guess us diabetics are the guinea pigs for artifical sweeteners!:P
I’ve eaten/drunk artificial sweeteners since I was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes 14 years ago at the age of 14. If we start developing cancers like crazy then you know why! Lol:P
Who can drink 2 drinks a day? Eventually your tolerance will go up.
Sugar alcohols ruined the food industry! Dog shit! This shit is by far worse then aspartame! Fuck this’sgarbage…unless you like shitting your pants all day! Fart fart fart! Everyone I know gets this shit! Worst food development EVER! I Caht buy anything without finding out it has this garbage in it!
Where are tooth pastes with Erythritol? Only seen Xylitol ones.
I live in the philippines a grade 10 student, 16 years old. I drink twice or once a week with friends and can still drive after the session. Been doing this since 9th grade. No signs of diseases as of now. And yup if ur wondering yes I can drive my motorcycle without license because the law enforcement in the philippines is not tight. Though im still very cautious when I drive and look for checkpoints.
Alcohol is healthy for you but also dangerous for you depends on how you use it
Can someone with type 2 diabetes have a breath mint with 2.5 grams of sugar alcohols
I have an ileostomy and on the list of things not to eat I was given at the hospital were artificial sweeteners. I guess I know why now.
I love how positive & informative your videos are, Thank You!!!
…Except the part where a lot of sugar alcohols can and are broken down and metabolized more than expected, which for many people especially those with metabolic abnormalities can and does result in toxic substances being processed by your body. And the part where food tasting sweet but not containing the expected number of calories can fool your body into wanting to eat more sugary food or food in general because of our natural mechanisms for translating our bodies needs into things like TSH and food cravings in general.
Not too long ago it was believed that hydrogenated (saturated) fats like margarine were better for you because your body wouldn’t process and store them the same way as other natural fats. Turns out saturated and trans [partially saturated] fats are stored by the body, only our bodies aren’t good at using them the same way as other fats, so they tend to just stick around as stubborn extra pounds that strain your body without contributing anything…
Not too long before that America collectively decided “chemical” or “lab created” foods in general were more nutritious, safer, cleaner and all around better than all that icky “natural” stuff we evolved eating since we began existing… And we’re just starting as a society to collectively really take it in that that was a bad idea, and we’re still slowly extricating ourselves from that.
Saying that “other sugar alcohols” or “other alcohols” break down into harmful substances implies that artificial sweeteners don’t… But that’s blatantly not true. Aspartame breaks down into wood alcohol [methanol] which is then re-metabolized into formic acid and formaldehyde. It’s just that the FDA has decided it’s “within acceptable limits”, and depending on your metabolism your mileage may vary.
Also I read that alcohol has zero calories, and absolutely no carbs….It said alcohol especially rum is loaded with antioxidants, and substantial amounts of niacin, riboflavin and hdl boosting hormones…Is this true?If rum has so many benefits, how come docs advice against having it?? Someone please explain..really need to know.. where ever I type, people are only discussing the benefits of alcohol..on google,on youtube everywhere….
fireball has ingredients of antifreeze. Stopped drinking it once I found out
Lmfao who is funding these “studies”. Alcohol is poison to human tissue plain and simple.
http://www.healthtrands.in/2020/02/10-health-benefits-of-whisky-in-hindi.html
Great information here….and the messenger isn’t too bad either.:)
Alcohol is fucking useless. It tricks brain to release sort of relaxing fun type shit hormones and you feel good. But not actually, if you are having depression and drinking alcohol can make your brain stress the fuck out.
I use erythritol, and it’s wonderful. Tastes and feels like sugar, but it doesn’t affect my blood sugar levels or start the sugar cravings the way sugar does. Fortunately, I’ve had no diarrhea from using it.
Alcohol is poison.
And it destroys family and relationships. I watch tv or walk to remove stress not drinking alcohol
Never drink and drive is very beautiful and impressive message.
alcohol increases the good cholesterol which is what saves your arteries from clogging up. i think this has been proven by doing blood test for people who consume moderate levels of alcohol. as long as a person has stress free lifestyle alcohol is a good thing.
I am amazed at the ignorant comments from know it alls.
Great video! Very comprehensive and fair. Personally, the only sweetener I use is unsweetened applesauce (made from apples, water, and vitamin C.) Watch for the applesauces that say “No sugar added.” The ingredients will show that they use “fruit concentrates.” Oh yes, I do eat raisins mixed with my oatmeal, so you could say that it is kind of a sweetener. My taste buds have evolved so they are too sweet to eat by themselves. I do eat a lot of fruit that is not dried.
ENJOYABLE,INVINCIBLE LOVE-GIFT! You make reasonable intellectual information most enjoyable,as it was meant to be! Not all our neighbors have fully matured basing life on their likes & dislikes! But again, your spirit of life & reason held my attention to actually grasp more actual reality! Many thanks for you & your love gifts to us! My love be with you in CHRIST JESUS!
Problem is 99% of people don’t know that they’re over dosing on sugar. Even those who think they’re eating pretty well. Also check out the insulin index of common foods.
Point taken and thankyou for clarifying a very important point of excess of anything is bad
Also like to say that of the sugar alcohols a few are worse for giving you horrible gas and doubling you over in pain. For me it is sorbitol that is the worst. IT IS REALLY NOT ABOUT EXCESSIVE CONSUMPTION. Some folks have said that one stick of gum was enough to do it to them. I think the statement on packages about excessive consumption is just to blame the consumer as a dodge of culpability. Always start with a small amount on any new food is a good rule anyway.
Hate it when deo or perfume says no alcohol used and you look at the ingredients and there are like 3 different compunds that ends in the classical “ol” which marks them as an alcohol.
This is b.s. haha only stupid 20 and 30 somethings would be live this b.s
hahahah this is bull shit… fruit has anti oxidants… and lowers heart diseases lol i can get all the attributes from alcohol ten times better in fruits and veggies!
I don’t want anything to do with alcohol, as such, sugar alcohol sounds about as awesome as cancer.
you sold your dignity for bunch of money from alcohol companies
shame on you, dont call yourself a doctor cause you arent
Yeah, bullshit! Alcohol is a poison. So, in small doses, it’s ok? Give me a break.
This guy is a idiot. Alcohol has zero antioxidants. the skin on the grape will have some. But just eat grapes. Alcohol is poison and just drink a lot of it and see how you feel the next day. Always ask who pays for any study, best advice.
so…according to research modest alcohol consumption decreases risk of heart attack? question no 1: who funded the research? answer: one of many alcoholic beverages producers.
Lol awesome video! I ate a bunch of Power Bar whey bars this week and I couldn’t figure out why I was a total gas bag (lol!). Guess I need to just eat one a day or maybe two at the most. Lesson learned.
Are there any desserts good for everyday use? I really have a sweet tooth!!! Thank you!
Why does ketamine work (whereas memantine fails) for depression?
I’ll take sugar alcohol over Nancy Pelosi’s organic gluten free Ice Cream
Sugar Alcohol give me diarrhea. I avoid them and I’m diabetic.
How does she not have millions of subscribers let alone her own TV show
Speaking of sugar alcohol, I was taking a walk through a mountain which had lots of maple trees which were used to make maple syrup. There, each tree had a tube attached to it which was going all the way down the mountain, but most of them weren’t in the trees since it wasn’t the season to suck it out just yet. In the end of the tubes, there was a removable seal which trapped just a bit of maple water in there, so I decided to taste it. It had fermented and become alcohol, I don’t drink, but my friends told me it tasted like vodka lmao, somebody could’ve climbed the mountain with a bottle and fill it up with the stuff, free alcohol! xd
Monk fruit is more regularly used as a type of tea than sweetener.
When he said 99% of the time I laughed because of 99.9% isopropyl alcohol.
Who the hell are you and what did you do with Hank and Michael?
Is regular consumption of these good or bad for your gut health?
Erythritol is what monster uses for their sugar free drinks. It has 70% of the sweetness of sugar and the only side effect found was a small percentage of people experienced a minor tummy ache
Alcohol does not taste good, I don’t understand people. Unless it’s a delusion just because you really want to get wasted, there’s no reason to claim it’s “pretty okay” it sucks. It’s like claiming weed smells good.
Xylitol and erythritol are probably the only ones that doesn’t cause “gastric distress”.
This video is bad. Too much talking around the topic and some pretty bad mistakes.
“The Energy in its bonds is never released.” This is a bad misconception. Bonds do NOT store energy. If a bond had more energy than no bond it was not stable and therefore would not bind. This is the most basic chemistry….
I like this channel, but this one was bad.
FDA approval of Sucralose was based on rat studies (well it was 110 in total, but only 2 was human research) source: https://articles.mercola.com/sites/articles/archive/2019/02/06/sucralose-harmful-effects.aspx
FDA’s approval was given only because it was reported that ingested sucralose was not metabolized (even in spite of the fact that it wasn’t safe by ANY means: 23 percent death rate in rabbits, compared to a 6 percent death rate in the control group, spontaneous abortions in nearly half the rabbit population given sucralose, compared to zero aborted pregnancies in the control group etc. So I am sorry but the cancer risk is nothing compared to other results of consuming it).
Anyways, apparently, the base for FDA approval was also irrelevant (source: https://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2018/08/180827134437.htm) However, there are new INDEPENDENT studies showing that sucralose is creating metabolites whose potential health effects we know little or nothing about and the substance itself is stored in the fat tissues, can be potentially passed with the breast milk, etc.
So even though it was a great attempt to categorize all the knowledge on the subject. I did more in-depth research on sucralose as a journalist and I just couldn’t pass by without saying anything. Because this video doesn’t really cover a lot of important facts and just slightly scratches the topic of the subject.
So what was the glucose to fructose level in honey cause I seem to keep missing it
wanna know what’s fun? try nitrating erythritol. it’s totally fun and cool and everything!
Artificial or natural low/no-calorie sweeteners of any kind taste mostly bitter to me, and also can trigger my migraines in amounts greater than what’s in a stick of sugar-free gum. Is this a common thing, and why does it happen.
yeah I know all about that “little diarrhea”.After a can of smints.
Oooooooohhhh. So THAT’S what was in those sugarfree gummybears.
You are a god send honestly! You’re content is just top quality and i love to watch your videos all the way through. Keep up the amazing work girl, you are a superstar! <3
Love this video ❤️ Thank you for the info my husband and I learned something new and that’s always a good thing Keep them coming
I guess now we know why there’s sugar alcohol around my anus.
I love using stevia once a week in my coffee after ice skating as I can’t drink coffee easily
for everyone who thinks fake sugars or sugar substitues with 0 caloric intake are better for your body think again because your liver and kidneys are the ones which have to deal with the undigestable molecule.
Just watched this video again after almost two and a half years. Still relevant, still a great source of neutral information. You make it easier to understand some of the things that are hard to put in words because it’s not a right/wrong, or if you will, black/white kind of topic. Being a nutrition student the most common questions I get is whether something is right or wrong, what’s best etc. Gah, I wish it was that easy! I’ve watched your channel for years, and to this day it’s one of my favorites! Please keep doing what you do, I for one love it!
I went to a frozen yogurt place that warned about sugar alcohols in some of the yogurts, possible stomach aches and diarrhea. I can agree that it is similar to a laxative because it got me out of there pretty quick.
Hello Alyssia, I like you so much, thanks for this video. I use dates as sweetener, for a cup of milk, or a green coffee with milk I use three dates but I use a cup that is kind of bigger in size like a mug. Is it okay if I take more than three dates in a day?
Thank you so much, love you and support you from Egypt.
I know this video is old but I just found your channel and I just wanted to thank you. I just went through a verbal attack by a family member and you’re right. It did the opposite as intended. I felt discouraged and misunderstood. I was looking for a straightforward, not a water-down version of the truth but wasn’t harsh, sarcastic or judgemental. I have a lot of health problem including an unholy amount of allergies and I’ve been so overwhelmed with all the health blogs and Youtube food channels that all said different things. Then I found you. I feel inspired and like I can make a more informed decision now that I have the tools. Thank you. You have no idea how much I needed this.
Sad case. Supporting his advice with “…some people say”? What! This guy couldn’t possibly be a real doctor!
Oh my… Sugars are alcohols. And your so called ‘sugar alcohols’ are actually just sugars. And alcohols of course. The quick and easy answer to everything here is: Food names and labels are stupid. 😉
… Uhm, it doesn’t sound awesome to me to start with sooo… But then I’m not into drinking in the first place. Never had an interest to screw myself up just so other people will think I’m “fun”.
I’m just little drunk n high rn, but isn’t it weird to be asked if alcohol is bad for you!!..continues with the video
I have been consuming the sugar alcohol Xylitol for years without any side effects. The great thing about it is its low glycemic index rate (many benefits) and the fact it doesn’t harm your teeth (teeth bacteria dont consume it like regular sugar thus no cavities). Im sure its safer to consume this natural sugar vs synthetic sweeteners such as aspartame and sucralos.
Isn’t sugar alcohol used to subscribe every cocktail out there
W8, making sugar with corn?
That not efficient, at all, sugar cane is a lot better.
1:46 You meant to say “Yeasts, to be exact.” Many people use the words exact and precise interchangeably but they don’t mean the same thing. Exact refers to something which is specified in greater detail, while precise means different things are all very similar in relation to each other.
Your video would be so much better without the stupid high pitch voice…
All of you at this wonderful channel are amazing and instructive! Thanks for all the hard work.
Who the fuck disliked this video? It’s so neutral and informative lol
Alcohol makes people sound like thay are talking in slow motion and can’t hear right
I have to treat all the “tols” as a laxative because that’s the effect they have on me.
There is NO CONCLUSIVE EVIDENCE that alcohol is good for you! or increases longevity! That oft cited study is based on inference at best! Correlation does not equal causation!
21 is the age you can legally purchase alcohol you can drink it whenever as long as you have access to it.
Thanks…i have to use Xylotol because I’m allergic to all forms of stevia and etethriol is almost impossible to find in stores. I barely use sugar alcohol though…it’s still a carb
yaaaaaasssssssssss i <3 Stefan getting some light and a full episode more often:D
This new person should stick around. Almost as energetic as Hank.
I actually kinda like this new host. With a lot of youtube channels, when they get a new host it’s not always received too well. It looks like this will be different.
I wonder if you could trick your brain by mixing the artificial sweeteners with some actual sugar (just less)? I’m trying to find a way to significantly lessen the sugar in my diet while still being able to eat sweet stuff once in a while. I’ve been trying to make my OWN sweets at home instead of buying them to curb that sweet tooth and control what’s going in the sweets. Of course, I’ve been going all Frankenstein by trying to add fruits or sweeter vegetables to my sweets. I recently made cookies that came out semi-decent made with butternut squash and oat flour and sweetened with honey, but when I tried making cookies with some roasted beets and chocolate, I didn’t get the same result (I’m still experimenting to fix this). Blame this on working in a baby food section where I get a lot of strange food ideas. I will get this right someday (laughs maniacally).
I have a bad allergy to sugar alcohols they make me very sick, nauseous, feel like crap. They are even in lotions and such i will get sick.
This link seems to be failing.. I’m clicking on plateau should I increases/ decreases calories and it opens alcohol and sugars…
