Kudos for the video content! Apologies for the intrusion, I would love your opinion. Have you heard the talk about Dinanlinson Elegant Figure Approach (do a search on google)? It is an awesome one off product for uncovering the secrets behind a highly effective low carb diet minus the hard work. Ive heard some interesting things about it and my best friend Jordan after a lifetime of fighting got great success with it.
I want to have carrot beet root juice regularly for a healthy complexion…but ayurvedic doctors tell me not to have it coz it is heavy stomach…can you give me any solution for it
Non are 0 kcal, you welcome. Less than 100 should be the title
Carrots are expensive and eating too much can make your skin orange/yellow
oh WOW! Incredibly Helpful THANK YOU LOVELY HANNAH! I am soooo Happy to have discovered your channel (as I was searching for Dr. McDougal recipe videos)
I can’t quite go oil free on everything but changing to spray oil (and making sure I VERY LIGHTLY use it lol because its obviously still oil just applied in a quick layer to sprad it easier) I’ve been able to really reduce it. I’ve found I just don’t get the same satisfaction without SOME oil on some foods. That said, I seriously did not need the oil I was using previously and I’ve already dropped a few pounds switching just a couple weeks ago. Oil is sooo calorie dense with no nutritional value.
Misleading thumbnail title. There is a massive difference between “0 calories” and “almost no calories”. Please stop fishing for views!
I’m surprised the list didn’t have celery only 8 calories per 100g, that’s equivalent to half teaspoon sugar (16cal/tsp). Eating celery makes the body burn more calories than what we consumed through it, hence it’s otherwise also referred to as NEGATIVE CALORIES coz you burn more than you eat.
Also, a very tasty and affordable honorable mention is watermelon (30 calories per 100g).
What about Broccoli. That should be top 5 on any diet program
Hey Hannah, great video. thank you. What do you thinking of smoothies? You talked about not drinking your calories and smoothies popped in my head. I know Dr McDougall spoke about not drinking smoothies but I’m wondering what you think?
Thank you x
Who doesn’t eat asparagus for breakfast? Come on Gary! It’s in my omelette every day
A medium apple (3″ dia, 182 gm) is around 95 calories I think
Imma fruit and veggie girl! I’ve lost 10 pounds in 1 month. I feel great!
When you compared cooked rice with uncooked pasta my Italian heart stopped. This is a disgrace. I’m starting to think that to know how to “handle” pasta you either need to be born in Italy or you need to get a degree in Pastanism, because that’s the only way I can explain such a mistake…
one cannot sustain alone on this food as it lasts a maximum of two hours you will feel hungry soon after
Whar is the brown rice pasta ingredients is just brown rice?
People with eating disorders: “WRITE THAT DOWN! WRITE THAT DOWN!
Sears thinks the brain is in control of digestion when in fact that could not be further from the truth. 99% of digestion is controlled by the eccentric nervous system which is completely autonomous from the Central Nervous system in the brain and the peripheral nervous system attached to the brain. They do talk to each other but the brain does not control digestion..
I’d rather eat a pound of cheese than a pound of broccoli… just sayin
17:17 Human adipose tissue is mostly palmitic acid. How could it possibly be bad for you? That’s insane.
There’s no food such as high or low/ zero Calories. It all depends on our food intake. Eat everything with your calorie limits
I don’t get it. I restrict to around 800 calories a day, and try to eat healthy with little to no fat or carbs; however, I just can’t seem to lose weight no matter how hard I try.
If fresh strawberries are too expensive or they’re not available to you, buy some frozen ones. Take them home, put some in a bowl. Microwave them until they’re nice and hot.
Get some Greek yogurt and add it to the bowl… and now you have a delicious high caloric food xD
It is so refreshing to see someone criticizing alcohol consumption in this alcohol saturated society. If you don’t drink alcohol, people treat you like you’re a freak. It’s really pathetic
When you can’t eat half of the list cause of health conditions
Don’t sleep on mushrooms! They’re so good with so little calories
25:15 Activation of AMPK and Autophagy of damaged mitochondria Need more source studies
25:47 AMPK activation due to low Insulin or low calories/energy status? Dr. Sears discusses metabolic pathway detailed here:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yiKSJNor-gE
However, the comment at 22:10 of Dr. Chris Masterjohn’s video is telling and somewhat supports Gary Taubes’ position. During exercise, your Insulin level within your muscle cells is indeed low, (even in light of a higher carbohydrate diet) which does correspond with this maximal ATP conversion process.
26:30 Metformin poisons the mitochondria WOW Gary, shut up. Let Dr. Sears explain what he means by that…
28:20 The first organ that is affected by a high fat diet is the Hypothalamus. WOW Gary, shut up. Let Dr. Sears explain why he thinks that is important. Blah, blah, blah. Cytokines. Blah, blah, blah. Inflammation. Blah, blah, blah. Calories. Blah, blah, blah. Good calories or Bad calories? Blah, blah, blah. TG:HDL ratio <1 Blah, blah, blah.
33:48 Paper comparing the Zone diet to a Ketogenic diet. Source?
Blah, blah, blah. AA:EPA ratio 1.5 3.0. Blah, blah, blah.
39:45 Dr. Sears: Again, it’s the absolute number of grams of protein, not ratios, (Idiot.) DING, DING, DING. (Wow, where did we hear that before…)
Blah, blah, blah. The experiment clamped calories at what percent of TDEE? PLEASE TELL US…
40:25 (Pregnant pause.) (Look up and to the right.) LOL
40:32 Smile ROFL
Audience: So what % of TDEE is Dr. Sears talking about? And yes, we kind of agree with Gary Taubes that the Zone Diet (or any other diet) would be “unsustainable” ad infinitum precisely because it provides less than your body’s caloric needs.
42:28 2016 study by Starzal (sp?) Source? Hypocaloric Zone diet improved Metabolic Syndrome better than hypocaloric Standard American Diet (?) over six months. Actually, this result suggests that carbohydrate restriction may prove to be more powerful than simple calorie restriction in resolving Pre-Diabetes, as 1/3 improved (apparently) due to only calorie restriction, yet 100% improved with both calorie and carbohydrate restriction. Now to be fair, the people dieting on the Zone diet protocol “should have” been tested for ketosis, as a significantly hypocaloric diet will indeed produce ketosis, even at a slightly higher carb intake level than prescribed by the basic well formulated nutritional ketogenic diet.
Blah, blah, blah. Yes, athletic performance is lower after only two weeks on the ketogenic diet. Blah, blah, blah. Yes, athletic performance will improve after 12 weeks on the ketogenic diet.
Blah, blah, blah. AA:EPA ratio 1.5 3.0. Blah, blah, blah. Insulin AND W-6 FATTY ACIDS. DING, DING, DING. Drs. Phinney and Volek agree in severely limiting limiting W-6. Dr. Sears suggests that the hormonal shift is “caused” by this AA:EPA ratio, and Gary Taubes suggests that this hormonal shift is “caused” by lowered insulin levels. Whatever.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Resolvin
Audience: You are both right. Lowering Carbohydrate intake (and perhaps caloric intake) and reducing Insulin levels is Keto 101. Eliminating Trans Fats and drastically reducing W-6 intake (and perhaps increasing W-3 intake [up to 5g/d supplementation]) is Keto 102.
51:47 Sears: CRP is not a very good marker if inflammation. Too easy to get false positives from bacterial infections. BOO. This needs to be challenged. Even if CRP is prone to be elevated by such events, wouldn’t a blood test with low CRP prove that inflammation is at least decreased to some measurable extent?
54:20 Sears: The Japanese have the lowest levels of Inflammation because they eat fish. Taubes: What about sugar?
Blah. Blah. Blah. Fermentable fiber is like sugar for your gut bacteria and necessary. Source: Read my next book, “The Resolution Zone.”
Blah. Blah. Blah. Leaky gut microbes trigger toll like receptors and inflammatory response. LPS may instead be the driver here. Taubes: What about sugar?
Blah. Blah. Blah. Oh, yea. Well, if you’ve read my book then blah, blah, blah.
1:05:10 “Eat lots of vegetables and a little fruit. Don’t eat grains and starches. (And don’t eat sugar.) (And eat at a calorie deficit.)”
Blah. Blah. Blah. No. Processed foods also remove needed fermentable fiber and polyphenols which activate gene transcription factors and AMPK. Blah, blah, blah. Eicosanoid https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eicosanoid Blah, blah, blah, my book too.
Is the Zone Diet the same as the Paleo Diet? Sears: Pretty much yes. Chapter 8 says it is derived from Paleo.
Blah. Blah. Blah. Epidemology. Polyphenols. Starvation. Sugar. Confounding factors. Blah. Blah. Blah.
There is no hand waving after death. True.
Blah. Blah. Blah. Significant health and longevity difference correlated with polyphenols in the blood. Source?
Blah. Blah. Blah. It’s not one diet for everyone.
1:19:00 Zone Diet Example: 1500 kcal intake X 40% carbs = 150g/day. Your brain needs about 130g of glucose per day. (Argument.) 90g of protein = 360 kcal = 23% protein. Which leaves 37% fat or 555 kcal or 62g of fat (high W-3, Low W-6, higher mono, lower saturated)
1:20:45 Sears: Most people would be hard pressed to eat 1500 calories a day on the Zone Diet. LOL
That means 4 cups of greens, a palm sized piece of lean protein, and a teaspoon of olive oil, three time a day.
Oh. Laughing stops…
Blah. Blah. Blah. Hypothalamus. Hormonal inputs. Fat and the gut. Leptin and PYY. Blah, blah, blah. Fuel partitioning. GP01. ATP production. Satiety. Sugar. (Shocked expression)
1:31:00 Two fuel sensors AND and ATP Glucose/AND > ATP. Science!

I LOVE this video!! I love the videos that you make about food, eating and related to weight loss!!! Thank you!
Love love love this video. More like this please. I’ve been absolutely loving doing the eat your veg challenge, I’m on my time of the month this week, I’ve have no cravings where usually I would eat a ton of crisps and sweets, I haven’t snacked all night on night shifts like normal, on days that I haven’t got in quite so many Vegies for eg when I was at work and only ate a bowl of porridge with a banana and berries because all I have time for and I’ve lost 5 lbs already in 11 days starting my monthly too. I’ve been really enjoying it because I’ve been mixing up my starches using up little bits of coups coups and old stuff in the pantry. Thank you for doing this challenge. I would have lost more but I do love a glass of wine on my days off.
You know i can eat this kind of food everyday. But i live with my parents so i have meat every second day. So its hard to lose weight for me. Usually i ate only half of the food because i don’t gain weight. But i am sad because kids in africa don’t have this luck.
I always love Gary Taubes. Dr Sears sounds like a very smart guy but my experience says he is off the mark. His mention of fiber being important for constipation is a giant red flag. I have been carnivore (pretty much zero carb and zero fiber) for a couple of years. I often eat once a day. I like this way of eating a lot.
I love to slice cucumbers and then sandwich tuna mixed with either Greek yogurt or avocado and everything bagel seasoning. It’s a delicious snack and has a good amount of protein.
the black t-shirt guy looks 89 yo seems he is going to Die when he speaks
all roads lead back to the Zone diet..its not easy, but it works!
Apple
Arugula nd baby spinach
Beets
Carrots
Brussels sprouts
Strawberries
Cucumbers
Beetroot goes well in a hamburger with a whole lot of calories unfortunately
The interviewer is like the Bill Lumberg of nutrition/fitness. Whenever he disagrees or goes naysay he does that fake stretch/coffee cup in hand/”eeeeh” shit..
Joe you’re gaining more confidence in these videos, adding a bit more personality. I like it.
Although I find discussions like this interesting given by the most followed people regarding diet…keto, lfhc, carnivore, etc, etc,…in the end the average american goes for a yearly physical, gives blood, pees in a cup, the doc looks at the result and gives you a script for what they think is wrong. We don’t have docs that will run these obscure lab tests and recommend a diet based on results. We also don’t have the money to find other docs that might delve deeper onto what may be causing our health issues because insurance won’t cover it.
When ever I search the amount of calories of a small apple it says 78 calories
Rice sized shirataki, mixed with rice to make you feel even fuller!
I’m learning so much from your videos and it’s all common sense I just never realized
This is a brand new perspective! Thanks for introducing the information in such a malleable way! Lots of changes will be happening around here!
Loved this hate oil now after stopping using it for a while. The mouth feel so easy not to use it x
Thanks I started eating more fruit and veggies on 29/05/2020 today is 11/05/2020.
I would eat a lot of cakes, cookies and muffins but now veggies and fruits rule. I do eat roasted peanuts and rasins to help with the cravings.
I think I will stick to a carb free diet until I reach my ideal weight.
I confess I still struggle with letting go of sugary drinks
Using the word “fear” associated with food and showing that to an audience is not mindful or positive. Please don’t encourage people to fear food, but rather to get excited about the right kinds of foods.
I finally did a 24 hour fast. After 18:6 fasting through the week. And during my eating window I only ate 843 Cals. It’s so hard not to eat the food at home it’s so good
I just want to ask what you use to flavor your food, because I find that the oil gives a satisfying flavor that I’ve always loved… But I do need to lose weight LOL… So I love your ideas
watching this video just in time for part 2 of my fitness journey…
i’ve tried cooking without oil but i can’t stand the lack of flavor… maybe i can try to season more. or learn some sauces like you talked about!

The problem is that in vegetables are vitamins which can only get to your body when you eat it with a bit of oil. Like vitamin a.
But nice video!:))
I’ve tried Carnivore (it drove up my iron levels to the point of overload). I’ve tried low carb. I’ve tried keto. The only diet that kept me lean and with a lower amount of body fat was the Zone Diet. The problem I have with following it now is that he wants to chuck the egg yolks which is one food that is rich in nutrients. The yolk is like taking a multivitamin and mineral supplement. I also don’t agree with his fear of saturated fats.
Lastly, the Zone Bars use to be the ideal snack back in the late 1990s/early 2000s. Now they are crap and no better than eating a candy bar.
Hannah I love you & your videos so so much!! Yes please do an oil free video I love chopping up potatoes and seasoning them & roasting them but I always add olive oil to make them taste good! Can they ve done minus the oil and STILL taste good??
Who doesn’t eat asparagus for breakfast? Come on Gary! It’s in my omelette every day
Yes please to oil free cooking tips. I looove your advice and YouTube channel. So helpful!!!
non stick pans are super toxic and olive oil or coconut oil are full of nutrients/i dont understand this non oil thing
I am fricking starving!!!!
This is pretty difficult.
I did think potatoes were worse for you than they are
1 medium apple is more than 50 calories. Usually it’s closer to 100 calories. Also he forgot to mention that raw carrots are very low in calories yes but when you cook them it brings the sugar out and it increases the calories
This video is a year old so you might have already done it….I’ll have to search if you do have a video on oil free cooking hacks because I definitely want to watch it!
I think oil is the biggest reason I haven’t been losing weight. I’m just now learning and starting to cook my chores with just water, or balsamic or vegetable broth instead.
This is such a great video, thank you ❤️
I believe what you are doing is working! Plus you have beautiful skin!!!! Gonna give it a try!☕❤️❤️
I’m a lil confused cuz my cooking spray has zero calories, zero carbs, and zero fat and it’s just Costco Kirkland brand cooking spray. So is it just certain oils to stay away from that add calories?
Love these videos! Keep them coming. Love to hear how to replace oils in my foods!
Thanks!
Carrots turn to sugar. One apple has 19 grams of sugar. Beets also have a lot of sugar. Eat the beet root it’s so much better for you. When you cook crusifserus veggies until their soft you cook all the vitamins out. Strawberries also have a lot of sugar.
You need to avoid sugars. Eat broccoli or spinach or kale. Dark leafy greens have carbohydrates but they dint count on a diet because they’re full of vitamins. If you cook your veggies leave some crunch to them so they will still be full of vitamins.
This video is full of wrong information if you’re trying to lose weight. Anything that turns to sugar you want to avoid.
Me: fasting for 16 hour
Also me: eat rice on 8 hour window
So hard when you live in household who eat rice 3x a day its hard to diet but double hard when your asian that live with your parents
Greek yogurt has a ton of calories man. You should have had sugest the 0% fat one.
Dr. Barry Sears is himself fat and sure have metabolic syndrome and don’t waste time with this dude Gary….
Great tips Glad I don’t like dates. They remind me of roaches. Lol the texture may be the same.
Hello I’m new to your channel and absolutely love you already!
Please do an oil free cooking video, also one on sauces, dressings and flavoring foods.
This is obvious to me. It’s shocking to me how little people understand about food
This was such an awesome video, great tips and you are so beautiful
Nice chart at the end for what should/shouldn’t be eaten. Did you make it? IMHO, the numbers for the foods that SHOULD be eaten should’ve been green for visual clarity. This chart is awesome! Printing it off for my (personal) cookbook. Thanks so much for sharing!
No rocket science to losing weight.
I eat more vegetables.. One spoon to no rice…
More fruits.. little to no snacks..
Lost 2 kg in two weeks since i changed my lifestlye
I was SHOOKETH when I found out that dates have so many calories! I used to eat so much before I went on a diet. Now I eat one to two dates with my oatmeal to make it taste sweet and good.
guys I never use oil with my air fryer! Makes it so much easierrr
Just so you know calories don’t matter.
I can eat 1k calories in protein
And
1k calories in carbs
Guess what’s better
Oli free movement is riddiculous… Don’t drench your veggies in oli, but healthy fats are essential for absorbing nutrients from all those vegetables! Pointless video showing only amout if calories in food, not healthy choices, that screams ED….sorry but a big No No from me:/
Who TF eats a bowl of salad with a whole tablespoon of olive oil? I use a TEASPOON of home made vinaigrette, and as it is half olive oil and half vinegar, Im just having half a teaspoon of oil which is 20 kcal.
But remember, calories are different from the glycemic index of the food!:)
I know tht a lot of people prefer to drink oil. Why they are doing that?
Peanut butter is impossible for me to give up I can’t do it lmfao
It’s not all about volume for some of us. So I’m happy with one or two dates or five raisins or dried cranberries or dried cherries etc, 1 tablespoon of peanut butter or nut/seed butter, half an ounce of nuts or seeds. I don’t feel deprived, that’s all I want. Same for junkier chips of all sorts. Sometimes (gasp!) more like 1/3 or even 1/4 of an ounce. Yes, I’m that person who can eat just one potato chip, sorry Lays….:)
I typically eat half a cup of rice with a lot of veg and/or beans, so the huge bowl of rice shown here is ridiculous for me. People need to experiment to see how much of such things they really need to feel satisfied.
Likewise i typically eat less pasta at once than you showed in that little bowl. That doesn’t make me feel deprived at all, it’s a normal amount for me. Even the box lists 56 grams (2 ounces) dry pasta as a normal serving, and I eat a bit less than that (usually 50 grams or less dry is what I package up for myself, I eat mostly non-wheat pasta and I’m cheap…). It’s a lot of pasta, actually, especially eaten with other things. So the comparison of rice pasta with cooked rice doesn’t matter to me, either. I eat either one, depending on what I feel like eating (rice is my good friend, never bothers me in any form and I can even eat it under stress). If the calories are too much for you, just eat less. Experiment, less might be fine.
I can eat a quart of cut up non-starchy veg (not even including any leafy greens) with no problem at all, though. (If I add it to leafy greens and some beans or some other protein, I use a 7-cup pyrex bowl.) I’m rather stuffed for the rest of day, though. Worth it. But I’m also happy with meals that fit in a small bowl.
Considering how long it takes me to get through a small bottle of vegan mayo, I’m not really worried about doubling the calorie count in such a salad by adding mayo! Likewise for adding some oil for cooking. I don’t do it enough to be bothered by the calories. People get into trouble when they add gobs of dressing or too much oil for cooking or for other foods besides salad. Just one teaspoon or less can be enough for cooking or adding to cooked food. Experiment to see what works.
Also I typically only eat two slices of bread in a day (and not every day), so am not bothered by the potato vs bread comparison. That’s for people who eat a lot of bread every day. I’ve always had to freeze portions of sliced bread or else it will get moldy before I’m done with a loaf. I like good bread, but have food allergies/intolerances and do better with less of it and need variety in my diet anyway. There are loads of other foods to enjoy out there, that’s what I learned when first dealing with allergies.
There are people who do need a lot of volume in their food to feel satisfied, but I’m living proof that not everybody does. If you do need volume, definitely the suggested swaps will help you. But sometimes it’s just that the recommended servings of foods are actually more than you need to feel satisfied, so experiment.
A great substitute for oil is Fry light. You only need 4-5 sprays when using a frying pan and it has only 1 kcal per spray
spaghetti has always made me feel more hungry but my parents never noticed
I am a little confused by Calorie Density Weigh Loss Kry at the end bcus it has Pasta in the Go/Eat list and Avocados on the Avoid /limit list but in the video you are stating the opposite? Or am I mistaken?
I would like to add the information. Please include AGAR-AGAR. It’s vegan jelly made out of red seaweed. It contains zero calorie, high amount of fiber, and 90% water. It is actually a jellified fibrous water.
i didn’t know that journalists are so combative or is it just Gary, because Dr. Sears really knows what he’s talking about.
Gary said this was his first interview, but he acts like he’s the doctor instead of the interview or journalist collecting information.
it’s a real drag they the whole interview.
What about zero calories vegetables n fruits
This is not zero calories
Rubbish
Both of these guys are wrong. They both do not understand epidemiological studies yet Sears will point to Japan high fish diets. They are not eating fish high in EPA and DHA. Also traditional Okinawan’s live longer and have less disease than mainland Japanese and eat virtually no fish. Also virtually all of the Blue Zones eat high starchy carbohydrates.
I did the zone diet in 2003, it was great. I was able to maintain my weight just following this way of eating without any exercise
I cook all my meals in olive oil!!! What a light bulb went on! Thank you so much. I also overeat nuts. Will start cooking with water or No calorie spray. Very informative thank you!
I would like to add to this list:
asparagus which are only 20 cal every 100gr, zucchini is 17 calories every 100gr, pumpkin is 26 calories every 100gr, any pepper has around 25 calories every 100gr, Melon only 25cal every 100gr (the one with the green skin and white flesh, I think you call it Christmas Melon)
Yes, could you make oil free hack video? Thank you so much!!!!!
Diet aside, Sears is nonsensical in his arguments. E.g. he argues that polyphenols in urine correlate with longevity in a Tuscan population. The polyphenols, he argues, activate AMPK. Yes, in vitro.
Taubes points out that the polyphenols in urine are a result of kidney function and that insulin resistance and diabetes affect kidney function. This means the LACK of IR and T2D is the root cause of polyphenols in urine because the kidneys work well. The longevity of these people is therefor associated with LACK of IT/T2D in the first place. The polyphenols in urine are a marker for good kidney function, so basically the efficient elimination of polyphenols from the blood. That is all that can be said of the association observed.
Our body does not like polyphenols very much. They are poorly uptaken and are quickly eliminated. The interpretation of the association could also be: they lived longer because they eliminated polyphenols more efficiently. But, well, vegetables are godly, so they cannot do harm.
Throughout the discussion, Taubes scratches the surface of Sears arguments and finds no much ground. Sears argues that “the right amount of protein” is the right thing to do, but does not say, what that means. How does the “right amount” change when maintaining a keto diet? Or doing CR carbs vs very low carbs.
Other argument: we need fermentable fibre. Taubes points out the cultures without access to vegetables thrived on fibre-free foods. Yet, Sears ignores this argument.
Sears talks that the microbiome eats up the mucous in the gut without fermentable fibre. But high numbers of these mucinophilic bacteria, like Akkermansia muciniphila, are associated with low inflammation and good health. Ketogenic diets have been shown to increase A. muciniphila. Sears does not make sense. He is spitting out information without wisdom.
Asparagus is a very good one, super super low calories. Lettuce has practically 0
you guys could also add a packet of gelatin to tea or water to make you get good protein and also fill you up on water
apples are 52 calories hahaah i just searched it and i love apples and carrots
The Zone is my love Dr Barry Sears’ message is sharper than a two-edge sword. He is the original and best artist of human health.
Why are you spreading such a stupid information? One medium carrot is about 30kcal and one med apple is 100kcal. Eat that two things and it’s 130kcal. Not zero at all. Same you can have 5 rice cakes, banana, yogurt or whatever. This is such a misinformation. Sorry for people who watching this and know nothing about nutrition. They are going to eat 2 apples and 2 carrots a day thinking it is “zero kcal food” in fact getting 250kcal plus
Apples? I can easily eat like 5 apples and thats 460 calories. About the same amount i would have for a meal. This video is kinda bs
Should have seen this dude 2 years ago, when he got really really fat claiming he knew the secret as to why we get fat. But now he is on hormones and steroids and pretends he is in great shape. Ha.
Interesting views; nearly fell off my chair: Tuscany population longevity/ research… “despite coca cola’s best efforts, they probably couldn’t get coke machine way up there in the hills”
I can’t believe that even in 2020 some people still belive that caloric intake is all there to it.
After a night drinking I feel a load smaller the next day. Never understood that. Could be the dancing. Fuck knows.:/
Gary does a great job. By the end of this interview, I got the feeling Gary was interviewing another successful diet book author who has spent the last 23 years in perpetual confirmation bias mode.
I find this very funny. Gary Taubes is famous for writing about the benefits of high fat and high protein diets. To prove their effects he published his lab data showing that his lipids are good. Problem is that Taubes is not a physician and does not seem to be aware that he has an anion gap acidosis, meaning his body is actively having to clear acids. You see this on his labs where his CO2 is 19.
Over time the body has to buffer the increase acid he eats which it often does by taking calcium from muscles. Chronic metabolic acidosis like this is associated with eventual insulin resistance and disease. It causes inflammation and can impact immunity.
