How can I say to my body:hey this is our new set point… Stay there…
This is awesome. A little difficult to decipher exactly whats what, but its cool to learn about this in class and seen it put into action.
God bless all the surgeons..my father just got an open heart surgery too. at Lenox Hospital NY
Having sleeve done March this year and doctor put me on 8 week liquid diet before my surgery hopefully lose good amount b4 and after
I had vsg in Oct 2011. I have stayed at goal, flucthating 10 lbs. This past summer I had the “bottom fall out” and was diagnosed with hypothyroidism. After I was started on Levothyrixine, I gained weight rapidly, no matter how I ate. I’m having to cut back to severe restriction with food to get control. I’m still symptomatic and being passed around to doctors, none of which will do a complete thyroid panel. I am terrified because of the relentless weight gain, incredibly debilitating fatigue, and severe pain because of this thyroid issue. I don’t want to go back where I was. I feel like a prisoner of my own body. (dramatic sounding, I know).
Now, I know what I went through a month ago. Totally amazing! Great work, Doctors and staff.
I see lots of people keep on talking about Custokebon Secrets (look on google search engine). But Im uncertain if it’s good. Have you ever tried this popular fat loss system?
I am adopted, so the question is moot:-( I would be Interested in your opinion about someone who lost 100 lbs across 3 years, consistent and solid effort, although loss was slow, the loss was in her 50’s, with lifelong PCOS snd apparently also Hashimoto’s. The endo said she should never have been able to do it. She kept all but 20-30 lb off for 6+ years until a leg injury and her mother’s death after derailed her. I think her chances are very, very good if she has Bariatric surgery. What do you think?
Y did I decide to watch this.????…lol I almost passed out due to the blood….im such an ediot who thought hey it dont look that bad…..once I saw the heart pumping it was over I went dizzy n pale….lol im done for the night.
I don’t think race have anything to do with losing weight. I’m an America black women my highest weight was 260 before my surgery, which I had September 10, 2018. Now I’m 4 weeks in and as of today October 6, 2018 I now weight 215 lbs.
I have had so much success with my Sleeve; 180lbs down!: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uoGh0HhDq5A
How does someone assess how far to separate the breastbone with the retractor?
I mean doesn’t the retractor sacrifice the integrity of the breastbone by over extending it?
I had gastric sleeve 12/2018 heaviest 240lbs… Today 4/1/2020 175lbs.
You spoke about referencing back course 2 & 4. Where can I find these?
I had diabetes for 2months now. I’m 93kg and I want to lose 53kg within a year. I’m having the gastric bypass done 10 days wish me luck.
Healthy life style management is the final decider of weight loss surgery. Without healthy life style weight loss surgery have not much positive end result.
I am feeling absolutely GREAT after my gastric bypass surgery 4 months ago! I am losing about 2 pounds a week and I am VERY HAPPY ABOUT THAT!!! I have plenty of energy and can move faster than before. I don’t want to lose weight too fast neither too much because: NUMBER ONE, I want to FEEL GOOD not sick, tired, or fatigued; NUMBER TWO, I am vain and looks are important to me and I DONT WANT TO GET WRINKLES to the point of having to go to a plastic surgeon! Makes no sense whatsoever….your skin will suffer tremendously IF a person regardless of what sex they are lose weight WAY TOO FAST and this is a fact. A dermatologist or plastic surgeon can tell you that; NUMBER THREE, I do not care AT ALL about a dress size! A SIZE in clothes is unimportant to me and it is meaningless. What I MOSTLY care is FEELING GREAT AND LOOKING GOOD and not creating health problems by being a “skinny mini!” HELL NO! Being there done that. Enough of that. HEALTH is the most important thing in life, more than money, a house or anything else!!!! WITHOUT HEALTH YOU HAVE NOTHING AT ALL, period. And when I chose to have the gastric bypass was MAINLY BECAUSE OF HEALTH REASONS!!! I want to FEEL HEALTHY and LOOK HEALTHY that is my priority. What’s the use to be on a size 4 or 5 when you don’t feel good and look “sickly” and have all kind of “health issues” which they come by been under weight??? That mentality is for the birds and it is very ignorant! MY OPINION! One should lose the weight ACCORDING TO AGE, HEIGHT AND WHATEVER HEALTH ISSUES YOU MIGHT HAVE! If a person has diabetes that person needs to be on medication for the rest of his/her life unless they do the gastric bypass surgery (if they are obese) which is great for people with high blood sugar and even so they might have to continue their medications; or if a person has heart problems, or depression, etc. they are not going to stop any medicines even if their medicines makes them gain weight! For what reason?? just TO LOSE WEIGHT TO BE SKINNY??? Come on….that is insane and very dangerous.
In my case, Thanks to the Good Lord, I am a healthy person who doesn’t have any mayor illnesses at all, NONE! My parents had great genes and were VERY HEALTHY ALL THEIR LIVES UNTIL THEY PASSED ON TO AN EVEN GREATER LIFE.
Having said that, I am very happy that I am losing my weight SLOWLY and NOT fast. Two pounds a week is FINE WITH ME. I keep my skin healthy and youthful for the “looks”
and I love it. I get compliments as to how “young” I look for my age, and that makes me feel terrific. I guess I am doing something right.
This has been my opinion and what I do in real life!
Happy trails…..
Can I just say; what an awesome service you are offering.! Thank you for sharing your expertise
but the same genetics that would predict poor weight loss and likelihood to regain weight loss would be the same genes that are in place that causes one to seek bariatric surgery. Would that not then suggest that only those with the non-obese genes who gained weight due to some other reason later in life are the only ones who would be successful with bariatric surgery? I mean I have two copies of the fat genes and genes that suggest I will regain weight lost.
Hey Dr.Weiner i am 18 days post op and i feel like i can eat a. Little more than i should like 4 ounces of protein or 3 ounces at a time mostly tuna and i get hungry sometimes i take in about 600 to 700 hundred calories a day
Bla bla bla bla bla na na na na na thats how much I care about YouTube
I’m currently trying to have a sleeve gastrectomy in hopes that it will help with my arthritis. Does anyone know if I have a first cousin who had regular gastric bypass and lost 180lbs if that still means my odds of success are a little better? I know she is not a 1st degree relative but she is the only other person in my family to have it done
well my dad is having this surgery soon so i kind of see what would be happening
My brother was very successful with Duodenal Switch but I had Gastric Bypass is that still a good indicator of success, even with different surgeries?
I notice a lot of people keep on speaking about Custokebon Secrets (just search it on google). But Im uncertain if it is good. Have you ever tried using this popular weight loss system?
I am 290 and 11 days post op, I was 295.8 day of surgery. I’m not losing hardly anything and my surgeon is not happy. He placed me on full liquids and I hardly consumed 300-600 calories a day. This is so frustrating. I feel like I am failing
My surgeon WILL NOT do the surgery if you smoke. He says why fix one of the top two causes of death if you’re going to continue to kill yourself from the other one?
This stuffs truly amazing. How fast yet smoothly, and efficiently this whole crew works and operates. And you can sense his composure in his voice as if its easy. They know what theyre doing. Im a mechanic who makes a FRACTION of the money they make but these guys are basically mechanics of the human body and they sure deserve
every penny of their sky high salary, if not more!
After five years I regained some 15kg and I found it hard to lose it. My doctor prescribed me a medication on a trial. The medication is for diabetis patients (which I am not) but it basically turns off the desire to eat. I have lost 15 kg in a few months. I had to inject myself weekly slowly building up a tolerance first and the cost were not covered by a health insurance and it was rather expensive. Like 200 usd per month give or take.
It’s a semaglutide called Ozempic. It has been cleared for this use recently in my country in Europe, no idea about the USA.
i am confused u lost me so if you loose 50 bles you gain it back faster than someone whi lost 100 pounds who won’t gsain the 100 back sooner???/ HELP me UNDERSTAND Please Advise
Dear dr I had BMI=34 plus diabetes 2, and ME/ fibromyalgia. I got my lap band in Uk 2012. First year lost weight but due to vomiting & pain had to de fill. Due to Hiatus hernia & reflux my surgeon decided to take the band out but as my BMI = 30 now I can’t have revision to sleeve. I am extremely anxious and worried about gaining weight if I take band out. Even though it didn’t give much restriction but it was there. Please help me to hope that weight gain is not necessary happens to all band removal patients
Trying to lose 15-20lbs…. So hard… Last 3 months stall.. I work out 5× week, lift weights now, eat about 1000 calories now, watch macros, cant lose????
When considering eating healthy, you have to try not to fall victim to modern fad diet plans. Extreme diet plans are a risk for your health, especially ones that seriously limit your every day nutritionary intake. While they might generate rapid loss of weight, these kinds of diets will never be a long-term answer for your waistline. You should search Custokebon Secrets on google search engine as it isn’t just another fad diet where you starve yourself.
Hi Mr. Doctor. I just had the surgery September 26th 2019 would like to know about the process of eating pureed food step one it also step 2 eating solid food instead of three eating regular food every time.. I put something in my mouth my chest burns bad what is. I’m doing wrong.
Hi Dr. Weiner, I have a hiatal hernia so my doctor suggested I fix it and do the gastric bypass at the same time. I also have PCOS and suffer from migraines. What are your thoughts on having both surgeries preformed at the same time?
OMG I’d never be able to do that. I’d be afraid of slitting a major artery or killing the patient o_o a lil too gory for me. The best I could do would be the person who hands out the needed instruments…
Those pads they put in towards the end are not removed? or the vid just ended before they remove them. They look like pads to absorb fluids.
Hello doctor I am 210lb 5’4 I have a family history of type 2 diabetes high blood pressure high cholesterol heart disease asthma COPD I have high cholesterol fatty liver asthma and I’m pre-diabetic I’ve had two family members have the gastric bypass but I’m not sure if that’s the best one for me or the sleeve what would you recommend
My uncle is due to have this surgery in the coming weeks, he too is a 53 year old male with a foot infection and diabetes, what a weird coincidence
I always think about how difficult is calculate the exact deep of the guts to be specific and make the rights incisions. It’s a hard work, that demand a lot of sensibility and tecniche to feel the limits of human body.

I’m doing lots of research prior to hopefully getting a sleeve gastrectomy. My concern is from past HORRIBLE iron deficiency anemia and a full workup with a hematologist, I only seem to be able to utilize heme iron. I was a vegetarian when this was discovered. No amount of veggies or iron supplements helped. With a Hgb of 8 and 7 months pregnant, I had to start eating meat because the other option was a blood transfusion. I’m worried about this after surgery. How do you handle this problem?
I had a baby I regain almost all back I went up to 231Ibs. Before I had the surgery I was 258Ibs lost to 170Ibs then gained it back
This doctor’s job is to educate us on Bariatric surgery. If you are focusing on negativity just find something else to watch. Because Im serious about this surgery. Thank you doctor Matthews.
I am 2 months out vsg and only lost 11 pounds. i’m disappointed. I have followed all the recommendations and diet! Very discouraged, but will continue with my diet. I have more hunger now after surgery so it is soooo hard to stay on the diet. I have no restrictions in eating ability, and my diabetes is worse. I really wonder if surgery was actually done! Dr. Teixeira at Orlando health in Orlando fl
Just had open heart surgery two weeks ago, but this is my first time seeing an entire operation. This is super cool.
I have lost 40lbs in less than 3 weeks after surgery I feel good
I’m 5 years out and I’ve regained 25 lbs. I’m embarrassed for myself and I’m not sure what to do now. I mean I know but I don’t know how to start. It’s a lot. I can eat a regular size meal just like before. What can I do to turn this around?
i was in a car accident and due to steroids injections in my back blew me up…I could not help but blow up what do u do after steroids?
Diet Plan called Custokebon Secrets kept showing up here on many youtube videos and I thought they were scams. However after my mate follow it, and finally lost tons of weight with it without starving herself. I’m persuaded. Do not take my word for it, search for Custokebon Secrets on google.
I’m wondering if some of this also applies to those who haven’t had WLS, but are obese and trying to lose weight on their own. I would think yes.
Thanks dr wiener. I had a serious injury b4 my vsg surgery and I’m on lots of pain meds and anxiety and depression meds and b4 my 1yr mark I gained 20lbs really quickly and I didnt understand why. I had to have another spinal surgery less than 6mos after the 1st one. So, 2 surgeries after my vsg. The weight just seems to be coming out of thin air.
You helped me find the culprit, thank you! Now to reset and actually change my diet and hopefully be able to exercise soon. I’m post op 3wks for my 2nd spinal surgery and I was getting meals sent to me thru a program in my insurance. It’s all processed food so I will discontinue it or donate the meals to a soup kitchen
Thank you doctor I am having gasto sleeve tommorow I have learned so much from your videos
Thank you so much for saying that your success doesn’t matter on the scale. It’s the relationship that you have with food and how you feel. I feel I’m a slow loser, but the inches are steadily coming off. I am African American so there seems to be genetics working at a slower pace. I’m ok with that. I wadnt, but now I am.
This is my dream, to do surgery, do look at bare heart and do, actually, help people with cardiac problems. In personal statement we put “Help people” just to be accepted, but here I truly saying, this is my dream to become a surgeon. This is awesome. I enjoyed this video and 2 burgers during it!
I only lost 40 lbs because I was 198lbs what do I do to keep it off…surgery?
Doctor am a PCOD patient if I undergo this surgery can it be solved and can I can have a baby
I have regained weight after 17 years of my roux en y bypass…im considering revision. Ive been diagnosed with fibromyalgia and lymphedema…leaky gut syndrome….joint pain…i hope i have a good success
I am on corticosteroids 500mcg daily and occasional ventolin as needed. Is this dose high enough to make weight regain more likely after VSG.
Why did you just practically skip over the race weight gain but have so much time to the other factors? Thumbs down
I had RNY in 2001, starting out at 309 lbs to lowest weight being 132lbs. So I am 19 years out now. I can say I have gained and lost in the past 10 years. I am currently starting to re diet AGAIN and this absolutely sucks at my age lol. Looking back I did great until I had Novasure, while I have been told oh no that would not cause weight gain I honestly think it has. I’m not much of an eater. But when I do eat it’s probably not so healthy. Time to get back on track and get this off again. Revision surgery scares me to death noway do I want to redo this.
Wow.
I was 51 at my surgery, newly diabetic, sedentary, nonsmoking Black female temporarily on low dose antidepressants for menopausal symptoms and I am definitely one of the effortless super responders. What gives? What is your evidence that I should have lost less weight?
My surgery is next month Oct 8 i would like to buy your Bariatric Vitamins. How can I order them?
My dad will undergo this very same surgery on Monday. He will have 4 arteries bypassed.
I admire the work these surgeons do-my grandfather had to have at least one of these done, and it is amazing seeing how the doctors treated him
I’ve wanted to be a surgeon since I was 7 so I like watching these videos.
At 5’8″ reaching 140 pounds would mean for me to lose muscle mass. The calculation is more of a guideline than a set fact
I need to know your secrets of getting patients to be compliant. I need to apply it to my patients.
Do you think doing healthy Keto and Intermittent Fasting can help elongate or maximize the positive hormonal state and Honeymoon?
Also, why can’t SOMEONE come up with a hormonal cocktail PILL that makes these hormonal shifts happen WITHOUT surgery? Or do they really WANT to? After all, WLS is a pretty lucrative thing…
I really wanted to see how he would do it off CPB but he ended up cannulating the aorta after all:/
Adding menopause into the mix just makes things even more difficult…..
This happened on dec 13 2013 to me, almost 3 month ago now and yes it was a friday!
2 bypasses were applied to me and the spare vessel was not from a limb but taken from another place in my chest.
Now I understand why I have to swallow a small handful of pills a day just to keep my blood thin and smooth for another few years.
In aw and with a big smile on my face I watched this.
Many many thanks to the surgeons of the OLVG in Amsterdam!!!!!!!!!
I am from lansing michigan and plan on getting weight loss surgery but i have diabetes and a lot of other health problems so I hope it can reverse it with surgery because my goal weight is 150 pounds but right now i am almost 400 pounds but I am gonna be compliant with the program.
Hey Dr. Weiner! Are there bigger neurohormonal changes from the bypass vs sleeve? Are there any studies showing such data? I was wondering if bypassing the duodanal section is better.
I’m on track with my hospital but I don’t know which one I want. The hospital is also a part of a study called BEST where they choose which one I have to have an equal number of each type for a ten year review. But I can choose to opt out, but I’m super ambivalent right now.
Dr. Weiner I had the lap band done 2011,haven’t lost much weight. Went back to my surgeon, we decided to remove the band. He suggested to do the sleeve, I was leaning more on gastric bypass. What do you think is best. I’m kind of afraid of the sleeve.
Assuming I am under 35, and have otherwise normal fertility, should I expect gastric bypass to impact my future (we”re talking years after the surgery, obviously) ability to become and stay pregnant?
Watch the whole video with my eyes wide opened just completely amazed.
Thank you for this video! I am so excited about my journey and watching other peoples!
This is absolutely amazing. The lead surgeon has God like knowledge Bravo!!!
Hi Dr Weiner, I am 120 kilos on dialysis for 4 years. My son wants to give me one of his kidneys. They say my bri is to high for surgery. I lost 70 lbs 4 years ago and I am no longer on any diabetic med. my a1c is 6.4. I went to the first class and they said I could have the sleeve gastrectomy. Do you recommend that I have the surgery first and then the kidney transplant or fight for the transplant without having bariactric surgery. On dialysis you fluids are restricted. How does this work since you only have fluids the first 3 months or more? Help!
Hi Dr Weiner. I’m a 45 female from Australia who has been obese much of my adult life. I have 5 children and after each child gained a significant amount of weight and was unable to loose it. I have a BMI of 55 and am type 2 diabetic who is severely insulin resistant and on very high doses of insulin. I’m considering gastric sleeve surgery to help with my diabetes and joint pain etc which is hindering adequate mobility to sustain exercise. I also have PCOS and irritable bowel syndrome. Do patients with IBS have any issues after surgery? How does insulin after surgery impact weight loss?
Hi
My name is John
I’m 22 years old and 5.6 hight also my weight is only 49kg how can I increase my weight please help me also I have a gastric problem

4 years of premed, 4 years of medicalschool. Plus additional years if you want to rank up
jesus….I couldn’t get more then 3 mins in, it’s amazing to hear about the advances made in the medical field, but the reality of the actual procedures is just…wow…
I agree..im doing EVERYTHING right and I have only lost 35 pounds and I’m 8 weeks out..i have stalled and have stayed the same weight for over 1 month now and I’m so frustrated but I’m gonna keep going and pray I lose the weight..i had the full gastric bypass so b4 anyone has these surgeries really know that it doesn’t work for everyone
Great job. A very educational video. I’m only puzzled by the use of an ordinary tablespoon at 40:13. But kudos for the innovative approach.
I’m astonished; what vain did they repurpose…and how is it not crucially necessary from it’s previous role?
Daily we interact with members of our species who frustrate us-but then there are these heroes. Thank you for the excellent commentary and contribution to us all.
Hats off and respect to all the researchers and doctors, scientists who have really added value to there gifted LIFE but to others life as well.
Dr. Weiner, I’m a little concerned because at my highest weight I weigh 191 pounds and my doctor says he rarely Sees patients with this weight which make me a little worried well I be able to lose some weight? I have BP, bipolar, diabetes that’s the only reason why I was able to be approved for this program.
I watch too much Grey’s Anatomy. I wanted to see the real thing. THIS IS COOL
I had RNY surgery 12-26-18, but I stopped losing weight 6mos after surgery. My nurse practitioner prescribed Metformin to help with my sugars & help lose weight more weight and I actually gained about 5 lbs in a month I feel it’s from taking the metformin so I discontinued the pill, but now I can’t lose the 5lbs that I gained. Do you have any suggestions on how to continue this weightloss. I’ve currently been walking 6miles a day 7 days/wk with no luck. Hw 373, sw 309 cw 260 I was 256 when I started the metformin. What weightloss pills if any are recommended?
You guys are the REAL heroes of this world.
I came here because my father had a bypass surgery last week and I had this curiosity to see what happens exactly. I don’t believe in God but looking at you giving life to someone actually puts my faith in humanity.
Thanks a lot for doing what you do.
God Bless You
Im 18 months out from gastric sleeve. I started at 435lbs and im 180lbs and im still losing about 8-10lbs a month but my dr said im just about to goal because i have so much excess skin. Im 5’5 and 34 mother of 6. Im not able to be active at all due to a back and leg injury so my weight loss has been all based on my diet. I have had a few issues like gallbladder and kidney stones, but this surgery changed my life! I had been morbidly obese my entire life. Im very strict with checking on my weight and diet. I also have a few friends who had surgery around the same time and their motto was “i can only eat a small amount so ill eat what i want” umm nope not me! I worked to hard to get this surgery so i just can’t go off the rails. One medical issue i have with my back has caused me to have steroid injections and i noticed stalls after each and i just slightly lowered my carbs and calories and i would start back at dropping. I enjoy watching your channel!
These videos have been very helpful. Thank so much sir. I’m very concerned with the possibility of death during surgery…it’s really freaking me out.
I had the sleeve done back in late August and I am already down 104lbs. I am also off a blood pressure medication and now eat a plant based diet. Having WLS was the best thing I could have done.
I’d love to do this. But I’m poor and have a child. I don’t think I could be in school 8 years plus…. It really depresses me sometimes cause I have such a passion for medical. I already phlebotomy, EKG, and cardiac monitoring.
I love your video’s. You seems so sentimental to the topics. You always cover WLS, not just the sleeve.
Thank you Dr. Weiner this video was super informative and very helpful. I have a clearer understanding of what a realistic goal should be. I want to lose as many of the pounds (fat) as I can, but I want to be able to have a healthy relationship with food. Not one where food dominates my life and my choices, and this will lead to an increase in happiness.
Dr Matthew, thank you for posting video I really appreciate it.
I’m 8 months out of Vsg and I’ve put on 3 kg and I’m freaking out so bad to the point I’m scared to eat
when i was much younger i lost 100 pounds in 6 months through extreme exersize and diet and i was obese for more than a decade.. so genetics is bs…
I like how he said that “if you’re African American you’ll lose less than Non-African Americans” without any supporting evidence like every other bullet point!!
Awsome job dne by surgeons..big courage to perform such op..hats off..
Dr. Weiner what about Hashimoto Thyroiditis does it affect how fast or how slow or how much weight one will loose?
My husband is having triple bypass surgery tomorrow…I’m in the medical field, I KNOW all this stuff and I’m still scared witless.
My goal was 170 lbs but it ever happen.since i have been watching a few of this Doctor great videos i will eat more better then iam now
Remember they operated on your stomach not your head, if you don’t change your mindset, habits etc you will regain… I lost 87 lbs with diet and exercise and I have hypothyroidism and pcos currently trying to loose 25 gained after fertility treatment and baby and I can’t say this enough it can be done be healthy consistent & you should see results!
I just had a quadruple bypass a month ago and wanted to see what was going on while I was sleeping! It is truly amazing! Thanks to all surgeons who do this on a regular basis! I feel so blessed to have a second chance at life.
To be honest, the most unpleasant part of the surgery for most beginner surgeons is actually at the very beginning when they make the incision. It smells awful. But everything else is ok. You get used to the smell eventually too.
As someone who underwent a quad bypass over seven years ago I find watching this very interesting. Now I have an idea of just what my six and a half hours on the operating table were really like. They say you can find anything online and now I really believe it.:)
My mother and sister both had the surgery and went down from being obese to overweight now, would I probably fall in the same bracket even if I have a higher activity level?
I had my gastric bypass surgery on September 30th 2019 and I have a question I’ve been scared that im able to take down to much full liquids in one sitting, im 7days out and im able to take down half a protein shake in 30mins without my stomach hurting. Is that normal because the last thing i want to do is stretch my stomach.
I”m a 52 female and i had a triple bypass a month ago. I didn’t want to know how they did it. I see why now. I thank all the Dr. that give us are life back. Thank you Dr Khanna and Owensbore Hospital in kentuky amazing people.
I weighed 374 lbs in January 2019, and got down to 321.5 by the day of surgery on May 23. Today is July 23, and my weight this morning was 278.5. That’s 43 lbs lost in the 2 months since surgery, and 96.5 lbs in 6 months. By far the most success I’ve had with weight loss.
I still have a lot of restriction my weight gain comes from being sedentary, eating slider foods and drinking my calories. Admitting this is the first step and I just need to go back to basics, eating dense protein, cruciferous veggies and to go back to the gym.
I am 191 black America with diabetes, high cholesterol, and BP, And I have bipolar which I haven’t gained any weight from the bipolar medicine because it’s not medicine that will have you gain weight I’m on Zoloft medium dose and trelliptical medium dose And my half-sister was 400 pounds and through the surgery she’s 111 pounds I’m worried that I’m going to end up looking like an anorexia
Just came across your video. Was sleeved Dec 3rd at 241 pounds 12 days I’m down 226 but 2 days ago still at 226.
Been on liquids for almost two weeks.
Monday puree food starts.
Dr. How long do you keep your pt’s on liquids after surgery?
I had this done 3 years ago. I was almost taken back into surgery due to a bleed which finely did stop. Even though I had some ups and downs recovery was great. Sadly this year I had to have 3 sets of sternal wires removed as they had all broke. I would like to thank all those surgeons around the world that do this surgery every day so we can have a better life.
Why people always said black people are less to loose weight than anyone else dam really stop brain wash people colour don’t matter it’s the idividual, I’m sorry but this is nuts
Props to all the surgeons who do this on a daily basis! This was fascinating and freaky..
If i knew all of this i would have never had the surgery. Weight loss surgery is almost a scam. Yes people l lose tons of weight i get it. However not everyone will and unfortunately i did not lose much and this video explain why. With the surgery i find it harder to lose weight. I lost 10 pounds pre op did the exact same thing post op lost nothing. No one told me about ethnicity and weight loss.
I started regaining at 8 months. I lost 220 pounds. At bmi. I went to india for 3 weeks. I survived on almonds and slim Jim’s. Eating 500 calories a day. Paranoid about getting sick or gaining weight.
I came back hungry. So I started over eating everything I was depriving myself of India.. Nothing horribly unhealthy. But eating too much cheese, nuts and seeds and low carb protien bars etc.
What gene? I have had my dna mapped various times and by various methods since the genome study early on… it should be there or not there unless it is a previously known gene somehow
Amazing, I had open heart in 2002, a 4x bypass in Stony brook hospital by Doctor Bilfinger and still fine. I had a vein taken from my calve area and forearm, they didn’t go all the way up my leg
Dr. Weiner did my RNY surgery here in Michigan and I am 4 years out. I went from 233 to 137. I am quite thin at 5’8″. I don’t have any issues with eating too much. I believe I am appropriately hungry and eat and stop when satisfied. I do my best eating a low carb diet and enjoy it. I check my blood sugar often to see what foods might cause a jump in BG. I will keep an eye out for this 4-5 year weight increase.
you mentioned artificial sweeteners so using splenda or a generic version of splenda is really bad i did really well on my rny i had 13 years ago then i had a miscarriage and 2 really bad car accidents and got put on steroids then i also got hurt at work so lots of inactivity and then i use lots of splenda so if i stop the splenda and try to eat good again will i be able to start to loose again i started at over 600lbs and got down to 250 which is still big but i was happy then all the drama i mentioned above and 2 years later it has crept up to 333 and stayed there for a year i want it to go back down pls help thanks
goddamn i cant even watch this, i cant imagine the control it takes to operate under such stress and pressure
Almost at the 8 month mark from my GB. Been on keto since around month 2. Started at 315, with an “ideal” weight that maxes around 160. I am down to 189 this morning. Still losing from 1 to 5 pounds a week, with about 2-3 average.
I am having gastric bypass later this year. I lost a lot of weight on topamax, But after i quit the medication i gained 97% back. I also quit taking it because i was going through divorce and gave up on life. I find that it is easy to lose weight if i have a tool such as topamax or well my upcoming surgery. Do you personally think My surgery will be successful?
4 years pre-med, 4 years med school, 5 years residency, and then your fellowship
I was told if l smoked l should quite so this is New News to me even though l stopped 11 Years ago on my own with out anything.!
And so what if you have NO ONE in your family At All that has had this surgery then what.?
My weight as Of Now is 221 l was 240 when l was doing my drink of the Apple Cider Vinegar plus other things l drink it 2 or 3 times everyday and it helped me go down
to 212 at first,.then since then l went to what l am now which is 221.
But my doctor want me to go down to 218.
When l have my surgery which will be in the New Year of 2020 l so scared but l need this for health reason and l want this l feel l am ready this time l look into this in 2013 saw my doctor 2 times which is crazy because coming back here after7 years l have him again and he still had my folder crazy lol!
So l’m ready for this l just hope all goes well for me.
God hold my hand,..my last surgery l had was C-Section 25 years ago gave Birthday to my son.
I’m amazed at all of this! If anyone could tell me how many years of college I would have to take to be a surgical doctor because this kind of stuff intrigues me greatly.
Hi I have a question for you. I’m almost 3 years post op from gastric bypass and have only lost 80 lbs. I have back to eating bad and drinking diet soda. I haven’t gained back the 80lbs but of course I haven’t lost anymore! What can I do to get back on track.?? I started out at 307 and I’m down to 225.
Had my surgery today, Gastric Sleeve, everything went well surgery was only about 1 hour and a stay of 4-5 hours and I got to go home! (outpatient). Just want to let people know that the Gas X is saving my butt! The pain was bad! No the hospital did not give it to meI had it at home. Other than that not too bad, no nausea, not bad incision pain, just the Gas bubbles. These video’s Dr. Weiner does are so helpful and infornative, much better than sitting in a classroom with a bunch of people I don’t know
Dealing with this now. I’m 5 plus years out of gastric sleeve and I swear they are right. You can start to regain the weight. You can tolerate more food in the pouch. The appetite returns. I’m trying to get back on track. Life as a slim person is way different from being an overweight person.!! Society seems to treat people who are slimmer differently. It’s real.the weight discrimination is prevalent and real in this society.
What is the norm for the amount of weight one should be loosing each month after VSG?
I am 17 mo post VSG. I’m down to 165 from 261, but I have severe GERD, w/ hiatal hernia & now Barretts Esophagus. Dr’s recommendation is revision to RNY, but I eat so little & struggle w/ nutrition goals due to low volume. Meds don’t help enough for the reflux, but I’m worried about the literal ability to get enough nutrition after a revision. Basically question is whether revision is worth the risk in my case, when it’s not a regain issue. I’m now a vegetarian due to meat intolerance, exercise 2-3x/week, but also have osteoporosis & hypothyroid. Really conflicted about what to do!! Thank you!!!!
Dr you are apsalutely correct i have gained 25 kgs in 8 month, post 5 years of surgery also my skin is sagging have no idea what exactly needs to do n m just 24 really very embarraced to go in public
I am
sick and tired of studies that targets Blacks to be in the negative on every study on the planet! White doctors NEVER has nothing positive to say about us. I would NEVER allow you to treat me for anything!!!
I’ve gained 7lbs within 1 to 2 weeks… this was a scare!!! I have cheated… watching the video and looking at the red bull lol made me throw it out and repent.
Got sleeved on 21st July 2019. I was chain smoker but after surgery I can’t even stand the second hand smoke.
Aloha from Maui Hawaii, with a heartfelt thanks for the breadth and depth of the knowledge you share. My RNY is this week, 8/1/18, in Honolulu.I am lucky to be with a provider who offers 8 months of education, and I’ve been supplementing with binge watching your videos. Orientation weight 5.17 = 241. Today, 2 days away = 211.
Mahalo for your Kokua!
If weight gain is driven primarily by genetics, why has the obesity epidemic only surfaced in the last 30/40 years?
Thank you so much for your videos. I had RNY in 2006 and had a goal weight set by my surgeon of 130. I was compliant and at the end of one year only reached 190. I was made to feel like a failure by my surgeon and left the program. I recently found a new surgeon who is helping me to lose the weight I gained and get back on track. He says my goal weight should have only been around 190 to begin with. He explained the reasoning to me exactly as you did in this video. I guess so much more is known now than 12 years ago. I WAS happy with myself and felt I could have maintained 190 if not constantly being told that I was a failure for not reaching my goal weight. Thank you again!!!
Amazing work! Medicine has come a long way and it’s fascinating how such complicated procedures can be done to repair the human body in major ways. I can’t wait to see the progress we make in the future. I hope to go to college, learn all I can learn, and become a part of it. Maybe I will play a big role in the next medical revolution, haha.
what does one do who gain weight…what do after age 40 and 50 and 60
Thanks for this video Dr Weiner! I’m still pre-op but want to have a full knowledge base and appropriate expectations before I have surgery. What kind of medications can cause weight gain?
What is the recommended amount of calories should I focus on to help assist with weight loss?
What is Custokebon Secrets? I’ve noticed many amazing things about this popular lose weight diet plan.
I saw a video where a least has been drinking hard liquor since 4 weeks post op. And she’s still losing….. Is that not damaging for her tummy?
Gosh the only thing that ever gets me in these surgeries are when they pull the ribs apart!
Thank you for posting such an amazing and detailed video. I had the wires also, I had NO pain after being released from intensive care a few days later and I was sitting up with the drainage tubes still intact then maybe 2 days later I was out of bed and walking laps alone 2x a day in the Hospital floor, the Nurses were amazed, now 11 years later I ride my bike 30 miles each way to my Cardiologists office for the annual visit
After he cuts the bone and the veins at the bone start bleed what is he doing? Is he cauterizing with the yellow handed tool?
I had vsg and hiatal hernia fix in April. I have not lost a single pound since surgery!!! I’m so frustrated!!! I was 239 on day of surgery and I’m still 239. Am I 100 percent compliant, no. But I’m not terrible and I’m eating a whole lot less than I ever haveI’m 50……just uuuugggggggg!!!
We have to start to Thale sugar addiction more seriously, today it’s the biggest issue within the bariatric world. We have a fast growing group on FB https://m.facebook.com/groups/716293205422339?ref=share, here we help each other to understand the addiction and to overcome the cravings. My mission since surgery is to make sure more people get help. We need too understand that surgery alone is not a good solution.
I am having surgery soon. But I see that it also depends on the family genes. My entire family is overweight. Does that mean its going to be hard for me to loose weight?
I’m having the sleeve done I’m a my weight goes up and done every year. And I dont eat meat.vegan for one year now I eat only fish and veggies. I’ve gained the weight back again. Because I have hypothyroidism. So I’m hoping the sleeve will keep me from gaining and losing every year. I’m hoping it will be a success because I dont eat meat.
What medicines do you consider that your PCP may prescribe, that would cause weight gain?
I will be having surgery (gastric sleeve) in 2 weeks, I’m excited and so hopeful! I’m 5’4 and 240 lbs, high blood pressure, Spine issue’s that I have to have shots for, swelling in my feet/ankles, pre-diabetic. Really looking forward to living better..eating healthier! I’ll miss a few things like dt. cokes and so on but already have gave them up and doing good. It will be sooo worth it This dr. is very informative and helpful.
I had a HORRIBLE experience. IN the hospitalONLY ICE CHIPS after VSG surgery for 3 daysI *GAINED 11 POUNDS INSIDE the HOSPITAL WHILE ONLY CONSUMING ICE CHIPS….
I’m a lifelong vegetarian. At the time of my surgery I was a VEGAN.
I finally started losing weightPAINFULLY SLOWLY
But not only did a prior back injury require back surgery and my back get WORSE, severely limiting my ability to exercise.. But prior to surgery I NEVER had low blood sugar problems… Suddenly my sugar would DROP to low 40s and I’d be about to pass out-
So suddenly I have to drink juice or suck on hard candy to get my sugar back up.
Suddenly I can’t exercise like I was..
I now weigh MORE than the day I went in for surgery.
Once I had severe low blood sugar problemsI had to go back to a lacto-ovo vegetarian diet as opposed to a vegan diet because o couldn’t get enough protein to keep my sugar up. I had ingested such extreme levels of soy that i developed an intolerance for it.
Want to talk about depressing???!!!!????
Thank you for all this great videos! I live in Finland and my doctor has suggested the surgery for me so i need to gather a lot of information. Im 157 cm and i have bmi on 48 so im so happy for this videos thank you so much! and im on my limit to diabetes 2 and high cholesterol. And im a little concerned about what i should choose but i think the gastric bypass might be the best. Or what do you think?
I’ve been playing open heart surgery stimulators, which means I’ll have the tools necessary to work on real people. Screw the 7 8 yrs of school. I just learned everything I need to know tonight. I’m applying tomorrow. Here comes a new doctorrrrr…
What do you think of intermittent fasting. Either 1 day a week, extended water fasts (more than one day). 8 hour eating windows or OMAD (one meal a day) for those 18 months post op gastric bypass. Thinking of the work of Jason Fung (From Toronto Canada).
Ill be 1 yr out and i havent loss much weight…. Its defiantly depressing
Hello there, have you considered Custokebon Secrets yet? Simply do a google search. On there you’ll find a great tips about how you can lost lots of fat. Why not give it a shot? maybe it will work for you too.
Many thanks again for this and all your videos. I started watching them since before my surgery (gastric bypass) up to now that is close to 3 years. All good with me and yes I have gained about 4 lbs after loosing 104 lbs. i a m concerned but keep watching your videos and read the book. My big issue is after breakfast and generally in the morning: no matter how much I pay attention to the content and volume of my eat i do get some kind of headache and nasty nausea afterwards. Sometimes lasting close to an hour, often difficult at work. Perhaps I am not careful enough or has nothing to do with surgery. Kindly advise.
Can you do a video on pregancy after weightloss surgery? I am considering surgery but I am young and we want kids but I’m worried about that aspect of it.
I am 21 years old 5’3 and 268 my bmi according my physician is 47 which is to be considered obese. I have always had problems with my weight even when i was super active in school (played softball). My junior year i was diagnosed with a thyroid problem. I did my research on gastric bypass. After my reseach i called a surgeon and set up an appointment. I am really excited and nervous at the same time
I have tried out several weight-loss programs already but none of them gave me the outcomes just like I obtained using this “Yamzoko Weebly” (Google it) course. I don’t feel jittery or maybe feel a crash, I’m also not as hungry as I used to. I’ve burn around 15 pounds since making use of this item..
I had gastric bypass (laparoscopic) in 2001. I was 280 and I did loose all the weight. I have gained a lot back, I’m now at 205 18 yrs later. If you don’t do the work you won’t be successful hence I am now at 205. The positive side was the huge weight loss however my body created this anxious feeling. I would get blood work done to get my vitamins checked out because I had no idea what was wrong with me. After many tests done and I was normal another And years later I realized it was anxiety. Not just a passing anxiety I mean it affected everything. I know now this surgery affected my nervous system in some way. Years later I am fine but I will say I struggled.
I was 285 I lost 40lbs probably in 1 to 2 week period I started to starve myself for a few days I started to experience shivers at night than the doctors are like you need to eat so I did now my weight is going up & down plus I exercise daily I did 7mi yesterday on Christmas & my top speed is 16.7mph I’m more of the healthy fat I guess I lost 30lbs before by myself I was 250lbs went down to 220lbs gained it back 285lbs that’s when I had the surgery lost 40lbs now still about 60lbs overweight for my 5ft 10″ self
So it’s not an “incision”, but it is a puncture. What’s the difference?
Your videos are so unbelievably helpful. I have just recently decided to undergo the surgery and I have been so anxious. I think I have watched every single one of your videos to help me out lol
What would you consider to be in the weightloss of a “Super Responder”? Some months I lose 5lbs and another month I lose 18! 70 in 4 months.
How do I know if I’m a super responder or just average?
great and helpful video… I have stalled now for 3 months, starting VSG Surgery weight was 375, today I’m at 224 at 1 year, 9 months out from my VSG surgery. I will go back to eating Fruit and veggies, to hopefully see my weight to continue losing. My goal is to reach at healthy BMI, right now my BMI is at 41 bmi.
I had gastric bypass 14 weeks ago and have lost already 24kg yay!!! I just can’t put into words how much this has changed my life, my PCOS has almost gone, I’m not pre-diabetic anymore I have my e energy back!
Love the down-to-earth and scholarly presentation. The so-called “most famous Bariatric surgeon in the world guy” has a bigger ego than I have ever witnessed and the information is often less than stellar,. Thank you so much for your great videos.
Dr Weiner this is Frank P. Thank you for your videos as I have watched most of them and they are helping me prepare for my own bariatric surgery. I am 65 years old 265 pounds at 5ft 9. I have been diabetic for 15 years and am well controlled on Metformin and Victoza. I have battled GERD since I was 18. I also have CHF and my current ejection fraction is 40%. I am scheduled for gastric bypass in Sept. Do you think this is probably the best surgery for me given the info above? I know you really cant treat me over the internet but was hoping you could give me your opinion….Thanks for your time and anticipated consideration…..Frank P. in Arkansas.
Dr. Weiner I love your videos that I have just found today. I had the sleeve 4 years ago but never got to where I wanted to be. I have gained back 15 pounds and so sad with myself. I believe you recommend in your video Course 2-4 for this. How do I find them to purchase them? I need help! Thank you.
I had laparoscopic roux-en-yin 2004. I was born with spina bifida so I’m completely in a wheelchair so trying to lose weight was a struggle for me to begin with. I had it done in Boston my pre-surgery was 256 and I went down to my lowest of 142. However I’ve gained about twenty backand I find it a struggle because I am wheelchair-bound. I know carbs is where I struggle with also and with getting enough water. What could you recommend for a daily food plan?
Hello there, have you considered Custokebon Secrets yet? Just do a google search. On there you’ll discover a great tips about how exactly you can lost crazy amounts of weight. Why not give it a chance? maybe it is going to work for you too.
Anyone tried the Custokebon Secrets (do a google search)? We have heard several amazing things about this popular weight loss secrets.
I want to be a surgeon, I am starting my first year of college to get premed
Wt regain has to be directly related to diet compliance. I don’t understand the genetics argument. All the patients who have the surgery are obese so it’s obvious they don’t have great genetics. It all comes down to changing relationships with food and making it healthy and finding self love. Thanks for the video doc.
I love watching these videos. You are very informative and detailed. I almost wish I had insurance or the funds to get a gastric sleeve preformed by you and your team. I’m 32 year black male. I weight 270 and only standing at 5’5. My primary told me my BMI is around 44.9. I would love to be off of these pain meds and finally have a good night rest without this sleep apnea problem. I’m happy to see tons of people in the comments were able to get it done and taking control of their life
I had RNY almost two years ago and this is the first I’m hearing about the hormonal shift. I’m curious about this as I was diagnosed with hormone positive breast cancer about 7 months post op. I have no family history, all of my genetic testing was negative and I was 42 when I was diagnosed. My oncologist said that had it not been for the surgery and my weight loss, I would not been diagnosed as early as I was. I’m wondering if this explains it.
While I know nothing about this field I still have large amount of respect for these surgeons. I still do wonder why they’re using a drill, it seems a little drastic.
D=>With all due respect, this is gross. Lol
Still though, my curiosity got the better of me. In the end, IT WAS WORTH IT!:D
Thank you, Dr. Weiner. I’m honored that you chose to directly answer my question and appreciate your encouraging words. I’m grateful for the added insight this video had provided as I continue in this journey. At 5″1, I began at 290lb, surgery weight was 263 on December 26, 2018, and I’m at 147 today, with only 20lb to lose before entering the healthy BMI range. This range for my height is 100 to 127 pounds and my plan is to live somewhere within those 27 pounds for the rest of my life. I own a copy of you’re book, Pound of Cure, and will get a copy of the second book you’ve mentioned. I’m seeking as much knowledge as possible to add to my toolbox because I want to stay in those 27 pounds and will no longer accept being a victim of the hormones and set points to which you refer. I’m also in weekly therapy to address the food addiction aspect of obesity. It’s so rare in this life to be handed a second chance. I refuse to squander the gift I’ve been given via RNY.
I am a psychiatric nurse practitioner. I have had VSG and have done very well (reading your book before surgery!). I have many patients (none that have had surgery, but am looking for help for them) that are on many of the medications you encourage us to be aware of. I agree that PCPs have such a short time, they give out meds that may not be the best (the pill problem), and patients that simply want a prescription to feel better. However I have some pts with severe schizophrenia, schizoaffective disorder or bipolar I disorder on clozaril, olanzapine, depakote, or quetiapine (and others) and the meds are the only thing that will keep them stable and out of the psych hospital. It is such a struggle for them to lose weight, I try to educate them about gaining weight in the first place. Many of these meds actually cause specific carbohydrate craving. I suggest beans, greens, vegetables and exercise. Any advice for folks that have no choice but to take medications that will cause weight gain? Thanks for all you do to help people regain and retain health!
See kids, this is why you should stay healthy and eat right.
Hi all, yesterday my brother was operated for open heart surgery and it was very painfully me as well but by god grace the doctor work is good enough to save him and he is back to normal…. really we salute the profession of doctor to save our life may god gives them more courage and god bless them…
excellent video that explains the mechanisms of how weight loss surgery actually works…
