Was wondering what you thought of Picaradin. I don’t see a follow-up post from your July, 2018 segment
Ohmygoodness thank you for this video i got a invisble demon monster in my garden and apparently the citronella plants is not good enough. Multiple creams at the same time!!! That is what i got from your video! Im thankful!
I grew up using DEET, it works, but it ruined gear. Since then for years I’ve used nothing and just suffered. Mosquitos and chiggers love me, ticks not so much. I am definitely going to give the Picaridin a try.
I used that sawyer picardin lotion on a trip to the jungle in Mexico and it was fantastic. I think i found 1 bite after a week. All the warning labels on the back kinda freaked me out but it works.
Thanks for the review! I haven’t tried the lotion yet, but I have looked into it. I also sent you a pm for another possible collaboration.

Have you tried the Swamp Gator stuff? We just got some but haven’t had a chance to use it yet.
You gotta try the Diatomaceous Earth. I’m serious, it does work. I used to get eaten but now they leave me alone. It won’t hurt you or the environment. Just looking at all of those chemicals makes me feel queasy. I know you can do what you want, I’m not saying you’re wrong or any of that. I am saying that DE really does work and it’s not poisonous to you or the environment. Good luck!
Also if you take vitamin E say about a week before you go out in the back country it also is a good de torrent against mosquitoes to.
NOXZEMA skin care cream (yes that old fashioned stuff that has been around for ever) and Avon Skin So Soft Original here in Arkansas we have a chigger problem that puts other states to shame and those who use Noxzema and Avon Skin So Soft are way ahead of the game (plus Noxzema will not mess up the delicate skin on your face) AND THE BIGGEST BONUS IS BOTH ARE INEXPENSIVE AND EAZY TO GET
Thanks for using and recommending our Picaridin Lotion! Our picaridin sprays are safe for use on kids as young as six months of age and even during pregnancy. If you would like to learn more, please visit sawyer.com/expecting/
Permethrin is the best. Harmless for fabrics and humans. You put it on clothes and it survives multiple washes. Or 70 washes if you send it in to insect guard to get applied
Smell? I have only used cutter advance, and that was virtually odorless compared to deet. When you spray, just like a painter, you have to move the can before spraying in order to evenly apply an even coat.
Hi there, is picaridin based formula sprays more effective and safer than deet based products? Thanks guys.
I think this works pretty good, but does this burn a bit on anyone else?
Good info. Sawyer for the win. I agree the spray for the camp and gear and the lotion for the skin
Good review of the options. I use a deet based lotion but I’d like to try the picardin honestly.
I’ve been using Bens 100% deet. It works great, instantly repels bugs. I’ll try the picaridin, seems like having a lotion would be a good idea. Thanks for the tip.
Good luck in your war LOL. I live in the NE bug capital. We’ve had luck with putting citronella plants around our property, Avon skin so soft, what you’re trying and the bracelets.
Sawyer’s Picardin did work for me when I traveled to Central America. I highly recommend it.
I find DEET isn’t effective. Works for maybe an hour then I get bit again. I actually tested it at cabin. Spray on arm, watched mossy land on arm shortly after
My DEET is liquid. But I have heard of this being used in real bug counrty. But DEET is what is used when bugs really need to be repelled but the picardin can prove it’s self..
OMG, getting EATEN ALIVE by mosquitoes happens to me every spring and summer! I just HATE those BUGS! That’s why I like to have some OFF insect repellent on hand. I gotta use something or else I’ll get mosquito bites everywhere on my body, especially on my arms and legs. Where can I find that Sawyer stuff?
I’m going on a overnight school trip and we have to get bug spray with under 10 deets
I used to use Off with deet in Nebraska. It seemed like it actually attracted the mosquitoes. I might get some picaridin to try it for the next BBQ
Can’t speak for their lotion, but I can for their pump spray, and you missed what I found to be one of the biggest pluses of all…other than the fact that it works well(in my experience picaridin products have worked loads better than any DEET product). It doesn’t stink, whenever I used the pump spray I could smell it when it came out and was settling on the skin, but probably less than a minute and any scent from it was gone.
When I no longer found it at our target(always had the lowest price) I opted for REPEL’s Lemon Eucalyptus spray, and while it doesn’t have as bad of a smell as DEET, it certainly doesn’t smell good to me, and continues to stink for hours on end(nose seems incapable of ignoring it after a while, like it would other obnoxious scents). Not good when you’re looking for brief protection of an absolute maximum of maybe 3 hours(more likely 2 or less).
I am getting eat up in central Alabama. Let me know if that works
I have tried the spray. It didn’t seem to work at all. I’m in Southeast Texas, the mosquitoes are terrible. Deet is the only repellent I’ve found effective.
Who’s used PMD? https://youtu.be/p5oUAaE40QM it’s in http://www.incognitospray.com
I miss Bradenton….and Florida in general:-(

Reading about it Picaridin seems to be more effective against mosquitoes/flies than ticks. I’ll go with Deet with ticks. Thanks for this though, I’ll look for the lotion one too!
I used to be a magnet for mosquito, flea, ticks & every other bug that bites known to man. A friend told me about taking garlic capsules (odorless kind) every day. I tried and it WORKS! I can now enjoy the outdoors without being coated with OFF. A plus is that it’s healthy for you if you don’t have blood viscosity concerns.
UPDATE: Sprinkling food grade Diatomaceous Earth around the apartment has been a miracle worker! https://amzn.to/2LXuSkU
Hallelujah! We spread it around on the carpet, and let it sit for several days. As long as it’s dry, it is effective. A couple days in and the insect bites completely stopped! We’re going to vacuum that up, and sprinkle down more every couple weeks. It doesn’t damage it or discolor anything from what we’ve found so far.
The insect repelling bands to wear on wrists work pretty well and last for several hundred hours.
Two things: 1. I just picked up a bottle of the Sawyer Picaridin Lotion last night. 2. I am very happy that you conducted this review!
I don’t live in the back countries or go camping a lot, but I am primarily a night time photographer, and I am in different types of environments; ALL have mosquitoes, some have chiggers and ticks. After seemingly have exhausted every brand of aerosol spray mosquito repellent, only to find that my pockets were once again emptied out on a useless product I decided to do more research.
The lesson you have in your review video I’ve never heard of that brand, yet I went to product reviews and people could not stop speaking good about it! I’m looking forward to testing it out later on this evening on a night shoot!
Great video, I actually use that Repel Sportsmen Max and it does come in a lotion. I use Sawyer the yellow bottle stuff on my gear. I use that same organic stuff you have on my kids as well, but my youngest gets bit no matter what it seems. Never was a fan of Off. Great topic many people over look, they just grab a can of whatever and think it works.
I use an essential oil based mosquito repellant.. Citronella, Eucalyptus, lemongrass.. It works ok.. I just ordered some with Picardin to combine with the one I’ve got or use along with it while I’m cutting next winters firewood here in PA
I’ve used the Sawyer stuff and even their Family stuff, which, ironically, I think does have something like 20% Deet in that lotion (my wife and I were careful to apply it to them ourselves and kept it off their hands) and found it to be pretty good. We’ve also been using the Natrapel stuff lately, which also uses Picaridin, and have found it to be effective enough. I was worried how bad the mosquitos were going to be going up to Allsop, but was pleasantly surprised to find that only a couple would bother me at any one time. There were never any swarms of them as I’ve experienced at places like Ruth Lake, Wall Lake, etc…(I think the majority of mosquitos know where there are more crowds of people and like to hang out with them there…j/k). But seriously, I’m not sure if it was the pemethrin treatment I did on my clothing prior to that trip, or what, but I never was bothered enough to pull out my small bottle of Natrapel or my headnet on that Allsop trip.
Sawyer Picaridin does not work in the southern swamps, the most effective I have found is Repel Sportsmen Max pump with deet.
Where was this video when I went through tick-a-geddon last week!
I smelled this horrific musty odor before. Must be from the place I bought it. It wasn’t expired either
I spray my clothing and use the 100% deet on my legs as well. I use this one on my face and arms. my main concern is not just the flying bugs but on my legs chiggers and ticks.
