I would never support monopoly of Lucottica (Oakley and any other brand in US), especially if I know how much it costs to manufacture these (5 bucks is too much…)
The sapphire lens on the blue sutro is good for Road cycling?
Im not one for nonsense or gimmickry… but Dude.. you held my attention from start to finish about shit I dont really need right now… & yeah those gold lenses are 100% banging on you Dude.. Big love to you and yr lady.. youve got “it “man
Anyone looking to buy budget goggles, check out Chainreactioncycles they have fox goggles for £19.99
For road and Mt I use Oakley Radars with photo grey or some call transition lenses and one lens for all types and conditions.
Yes you can get prescription lens with most Oakley glasses,
I m Oakley fan since they began with the Face Mask dats of old. the Big WWF Heaters!
Thank you for reaffirming how dope I thought the Sutros would be, so glad they actually work and still look sick!
Which do you recommend for a big cranium head dude like me? I’m talking like size 7 5/8 fitted fat head.
My man, I came here expecting a variety of shapes-technologiesetc. Didn’t see any shapes other than those who look like half face masks. I understand you and some other people love them but what about the rest of us? Thanks anyway bro’.
Step 1: Go to B&Q
Step 2: Pick up £2.99 safety glasses.
Step 3: Watch no one notice the difference.
I don’t bother with expensive branded fashion eye wear. I use Australian Standards approved polycarbonate safety glasses that are wrap around clear or tinted the cost all of $2.00 each when bought in a box of 12.
Sunglasses are the ine thing I find useless to spend anything more than $60 on. There are so many smaller companies that make very capable cool looking sunglasses. I have a $30 pair from amazon that are polaroid and photochromatic that are great. Also have a pair of blenders that are really nice.
Try Rudy Project for quality lens. I Fotonyk for runs, rides, and casual wear.
I was really hoping this would be a parody because there are some hilarious pieces of biking eye wear out there….

I wear my goggles because I look weird riding with a full face and no goggles
Yellow tint safety glasses, $8. I save my Oakleys for looking cool in the car park.
I find I use Ray Ban Wayfarers a lot. It is wide and big enough. And can be used for all occasions if you don’t want to look like a hardcore cyclist. Ray Ban aviators also work. Just dress fitting to those glasses and you’ll look fine. Oakley Jawbreakers are too “cyclist” looking. I use Oakley Pitbull or Pit boss.
Just wear some Motocross goggles. Cheaper and can get any lense tech/color. Almost look the same too and won’t blow off your face
I tend to just wear standard Oakley gigs, namely the Holbrook frames. A yellow tinted lense (even their purple/blue looking lenses are yellow when viewing through them) really helps to pick out details on a casual ride round here and also amongst the gloomy woods/forests we have in the NW of England.
What UV protection is recomended? Are work protective glasses ok for MTB?
Hey rich dudes, go to Goodwill and get Ironman sunglasses for 5 bucks all day long! Ya know…if ya “need to save a buck durng these times.”
There is nothing better than a scientific analysis of cycling accessories. “Moonface” check. SOL check. Awesome.
I’ve been through Oakley, Uvex, Tifosi, etc. Rocking some Shimano S-Phyre X1’s now that I got on sale. Work great for my face and what I need them to do. May go 100% next time around. Great video and glad I found your channel broski.
I bought extremely expensive Oakley prescription glasses a few years back, they fell apart almost immediately and Oakley’s customer service were awful. Would never buy another pair.
Mans flexin so hard, while im here using my prescription glasses
Can someone with experience on this tell me, if vents in lenses cause more tearing of the eyes in winter? I’m curious cause I could surely use vents in the summer, but wonder if they’d cause issues once cold weather steps in?
as soon you need prescription lenses all of those in video are performance 0%… They are good for young people or the ones with good eyes, but that is just matter of time. Not one of those have option for diopter inserts. Time is ticking… Few more years and you will throw all of those in the garbage bin:)
#100 percent glasses are the best! ♥️ Like if you’re a 100 % user too
2:25 so if goggles are basically the best you can buy ( for protection) why not wear them all the time?
I wear Oakley Targetline’s w/ their trail lens when I ride. Not a fan of the angry baseball dad or Tron-esque glasses that are all the range for biking these days.
HAHAHAHAHA I don’t skip head day!!!! or Fix your MOON FACE!! hahahahahahahaha…. ROLLING!!!
Some attention for eyewear that can be combined with prescription glasses would make this video even more useful. Maybe a good subject for a next one?
Nice to see these glasses compared back to back. I’ve recently bought a couple of sunglasses (100% speedtrap, Oakley and POC amongst others) to find the best one for me. Funny enough i actually really like the lens of the POC half blade a lot. It is worth mentioning that you can buy Them with different categories of lenses (cat, 1, 2 and 3). Mine came with a cat. 2 lens, enough sun gets blocked for most rides and the colours Stay true, something I really like. For good sight with a low standing sun I would recommend a cat. 3 lens though (which also Comes gold coloured!:). the asking price of POC indeed is way to high, but some good deals can be found (got mine For 100 euros)
Sunglasses from KOO are awesome too, like the KOO Open Cube a great option as well! With Zeiss lenses that doesnt “pop out” color filter wise
hi! do you know if there is a clear spare lens with the Poc’s? thanks!
these shades are so large, the next step is a welding face mask.
These current sunglasses are ugly as fuck. Im sticking with my 10+ year old Radars and Pro M frames
I don’t really use sunglasses on a bike but I always have motocross goggles on my helmet for descending. If I really need sunglasses I have a tactical military model Swiss Eye Raptor. They can withstand a shot from a shotgun from 8 meters and they cover your eyes perfectly from every angle.
So, you’re doing this whole thing on a platform of Siroko boxes, I’d like to hear your opinion on those. And you can’t say you don’t have them…
No mention about those of us that wear spectacles. What are our options?!
glaaaaaaases. Wurzel. Strong accent! Love the way he says glasses.
I dont think you gave enough time to goggles. I know this is kind of an advert for Oakley but you could have shown the si ballistic goggles, I wear them when I ride road and trail and they work perfectly. Just trying to say there are more options available than those giant bug shields.
Love my oakleys but find that they cause pain at the temples after a few hours of riding.
1:27 dirt got in his glasses.
i have glasses but when i go fast it makes my eyes watery that usually leads to crashes
What should i do?
Thank you for the video how to lift your rear wheel thank you I finally Got it
this guy is hilarious! He’s says “How I visually see things”!
Cheapo china glasses are the best value period. Honestly the wrap around type lense gives the most appreciable performance increase so your eyes are not watering. Aside from that glasses that cost more than twenty bucks are better but only marginally. Its like a carbon frame. They are cool but they are going to do nothing for 99 percent of people.
Do you ride with or without eyewear? If so do you use goggles or glasses? Let us know!
Windjacket 2.0 are actually snowboard/ski apres glasses/spring ski/snowboard glasses. That’s why they have the foam and come with straps in the bag. BUT for cycling I’ve found they don’t vent well and fog very quickly
Y dose it matter that your vegan I’m not saying that there is anything whiting with being vegan but unless it’s the main focal point it shouldn’t even have to be in name of your Chanel
ive been using a pair of 3$ regular safety glasses from walmart for over 3 years. all ive ever had..:)
nice vid as always mate.. Agree about POC, Oakley is alway good too, but recently my new fav’s are ROKA without a doubt. They are super light, stay on your face with superb optics. Get them to send you a pair…they will. Let me know if you need a contact… Hope to see you on our camp this week in CA, Calabasas is our base with Grayson…
Cheers
Andrew
I’m going to wear something like play Tactical sunglasses they advertise on TV. Really makes the beauty outside pop. I’m worried about what I can see not what can see me.
Isn’t it funny that my last three youtube searches: “Cycling sunglasses”, “Smith Forefront 2” and “Peter Sagan” resulted in a top hit starting with the bearded grin of Sunglass Rob:):):)
Another good vid and so many excellent choices, damn aren’t we spoiled for choice-Smith, Oakley, 100%, Adidas…you name it.
Happy days…
P.S. For road biking you can go either way indeedI use both polarised and non-polarised Prizms and can’t say there is a dramatic difference.
P.P.S. Adidas phtochromatic lenses go from very light brown to blue mirror, so not all go from clear to dark grey.
I have prizm trail and they are incredibly good I just loved what they did with colour around me
Was expecting a comparison between different types of glasses, instead it’s an Oakley advert with 3 glasses that all look similar
Yellow lense ski goggles are amazing. They are designed to pick up the contrast in the snow.
I don’t skip head day LOL. Great video thanks, I think I’ll get a pair of sutros
I LIKE because this video is just genuinely well made. Even though its a simple concept. Essentially a shades review.
just like aliexpress glasses with interchangeable lenses I ride in the winter and summer for a year. on 1:18
Performance: 5 [graphics, color overlays…]
Price: 5 [I paid $0.]
Uniqueness: 5 {It’s VC after all.]
Bottom line: 15 out of 15.
Someone else has the problem with sweating and wet the glasses? Is it not better with goggles so they stop the sweat?
Wearing Adidas Zonyk Pro with LST Vario lens, they have the widest nose bridge out of all the brands I tested and thus the most coverage. Lens technology is also second to none.
Oakley Flight Jacket are the best riding glasses I’ve used in 25+ years of mtb. The venting, field of view and clarity are well worth the price.
Im kinda sad for the professional cyclist guy for being overpowered by the continuous rant of the fat guy that came straight outta of the beach. I guess mr.chubby’s already in the coaching stage of being sporty, tum-tum got all the wisdom! ✌️
This is the first video I see where it feels like a really long advertisement. Either way, what do you do if you have glasses yourself? I don’t do any extreme mountain biking. I just have a helmet.
ive got the Flight Jacket and they are great they safed my eyes a coulpe of times now i mostly ride und smooth double track and they got in my area small stones covering them so they fly up sometimes and if i wouldnt have worn my classes i maybe be would be blind on one eyes
What about people who wear prescription lenses / vision correction? What goggles work with glasses underneath? Does Oakley provide prescription lenses or inserts for prescription lenses?
Just switched from Jawbreakers to 100% speedcraft SL and man do I prefer the 100% lenses. Dont fog up as fast because they dont sit as flush to your face and they clean a lot easier
100%?!?! Never ever heard or saw about this brand here in Germany
Goggles most likely would be the cheaper buy. The Oakley glasses would be too pricey. Save the extra for your bike
Have you heard of Rudy Project? Besides helmets they make sunglasses as well. Just wanted to ask for your opinion about the brand:)
I use glasses for XC rides. Keeps bugs and mud out of my eyes. Bought a pair in Lidl for 8€. They’re really great and don’t create a pressure above the ears over couple of hours if riding.
Goggles for downhill sessions.
Hey Bro at 6:54, the one you are wearing can I get the link to that, with the exact color as well
i wear badminton or fishing glasses. They work just fine. If your some pro park rider, wear like ski goggles
Safety Glasses, clear or tinted. Cheap, cheerful and totally appropriate protection
I’m happy with my flight jacket I have the same ones in this video and they are great in all conditions even when it gets darker in and out the shades.
Since Oakley sells replacement lenses for the Sutros, am assuming that means the lenses are interchangeable?
Hey, which model of POC ASPIRE did you exactly test? With gold/violet lenses CAT 3 or brown/silver lenses CAT 2? Much appreciate quick answer!
I don’t get it… I’ve worn Oakleys since the mid 90’s, for everything from running, golf, cycling and MTB… and although stylish… the Sutro are by far the LEAST performance oriented design to date. Goes to show how everyone is all about trends and looks… not necessarily performance. Good job Egan… hope you’re getting some royalties…
I have only bad experiance with oakley. There is some much better brands like poc, leat etc
i think i stick with my 10€ glasses, can’t justify that amount of money for those glasses
Honestly, the cycling glasses on Amazon for 15 bucks will do the trick. That being said, a pair likes the Oakleys Flight Jacket look badass.
This is an excellent video. Production is top notch and the info is on point.
You review products the right way by actually using them then grading them. You don’t just show a bunch of pics or stats or vids that I can find on the internet myself. My favorite YouTube reviewers have the products in hand and use them. I prefer Oakley
Please check our cycling glasses made with Plant Based frame material 😉
Finally, i have decided which sunglasses i should buy. But there is one thing, which makes me aware of ordering which lens of oakley doesnt change colors but still protects my eyes very well?
ever consider that the POCs might be unique because people have already decided that they’re actually POS? Also, the uniqueness of the oakleys is entirely up to you, you can customize like 30,000 styles with the different colors, just make sure you pick prism road lenses. they’re unbelievable.
Just remember, even including R&D and the advertising budget a $200 pair of oakley glasses only costs $30 to make, making them one of the most profitable companies in the world, a fact that Luxxotica is only to happy to brag about at shareholder meetings.
Now conversely if you buy $100 Bolle or Roka glasses who’s to say they don’t only cost $10 to make and that $20 gas station sunglasses might only cost $0.50 to make, and at that point the Oakleys might still be a better value, but those companies don’t publicly brag about their profits so I dunno.
Spending a lot of money on glasses when they are easily broken in a crash or lost does not make sense. Wear cheaper glasses than Oakley’s.
cant u do a cheaper brand we don’t all have hundreds of pounds to splash out on glasses
It is all very well getting mountain bike specific glasses and gloves etc, and I have done that. But honestly if you are an average biker, I have found I have now gotten more protection, durability, wearability and value for my money by getting most or all of this stuff from my local hardware store.
Look up POC glasses on AliExpress. $35 (or so). They might be fake… or maybe not coming from this review of the lens. I have some and the review is on point.
Jawbreakers with photochromic lenses is what I use for MTB and road. Sometimes too light for the road but it’s still a good compromise.
What do you mean that the technology of POC is not good? Can you be specific?
I rather ride with my eyes close, cider view more ventilation
Yeah, I ride with some clear racquetball glasses if it’s dense trees or cloudy and my Oakley sunglasses if it’s bright… But I’m mostly cheap.
Picked up a set of 100% S3 Sunglasses (Soft TACT Flume/HIPER RED Multilayer Mirror Lens) and they are as good as you said. Clear from edge-edge with great protection/performance. A good purchase, thanks for the review and recommendation.
Please do one for those of us who need prescription glasses, yeh these things have nice coatings and look all fancy but not much use to me and many others. I have asked this before and seen others ask the same.
I wear monochromatic Rudy Project glasses. But I think they’d be classed as traditional!
I am riding enduro and I use Gogles, as u said for more safety and When you ride down the hill it helps a lot for e.g in winter
Code worked for Competitive Cyclist and I am a regular CC customer. Thanks @TheVeganCyclist
Clear lens in autum/winter/evening, otherwise red lens. Darker lenses don’t work for me in the forest.
@global Mountain Bike Network, thank you so much! This video came out just in time for me. I’m new to mountain biking, and I’m going to go get my gear (helmet, spare inter tube, etc…) later today, and I was debating eyewear, but didn’t know what to get. This video has been super helpful. Keep up the good work!
Nice glasses but dunno if I’m gunna sell my liver and one of my kidneys to buy em. Can’t justify spending 500 $ AU.
the oakley radar have really good ventalation the sweat trickles on the side of the lenses, if you do happen to get sweat on the lenses it wicks out very quickly. they never seem to fog either good for hot conditions
i just use crossbow glasses with prescription inserts i have from another hobby, works great.
I literally just bought my first mtb glasses yesterday from sports chek here in Ontario. High contrast is the way to go. I’m semi color blind and wearing these is like living on a whole new world.
I brought my friend mtb with me, it’s his first time. He decided to take a jumpline and he crashed, causing his handlebars to hit him straight in his eye. His vision isn’t blurry anymore and we are both purchasing eyewear
Hi GMBN, are you looking for new editor or camera operator? I make videos like you. My latest video is: M.Van Der Poel wining European Championships
Watched full video cus you are funny DUDE!! Lolol great content man!
I’ve always been a fan of Oakley mainly because their massive support of first responders and military through standard issue
whats the best oakley cycling glasses for prescription eye? i have astigmatism cylindric eye.
i can’t choose curvy lenses.
All well and good Neil, but what about people that need prescription eye wear? Maybe you could do a piece on that.
Next Episode from GMBN “How to tie your shoes for Mountain Biking All you need to know”
when you roll up to the group ride and everyone got ur sunnies on BRUUUH dont kill me!!!!
How about a pair for winter bicycle rides November thru March? I live in northern climates. Requires a pair to handle freezing temperatures not fog up from wearing face protection. Any ideas
Thanks. Just ordered a pair of Oakley’s with my prescription for both MTB and road. Got amber lenses because both road and bike in WV it is very shadow and tree covered. Waiting to try them out. I am riding in Colorado this week and with I had darker lens. Sun is blindingly bright!
#askGMBN are mountain biking glasses impact certified? Last year I landed on my face when attempting a drop. I was wearing a pair of more street style glasses, but made by a mountain biking company (they were Ryders Nelsons to exact). The glasses broke on impact, sending the temple of glasses (where the arm attaches) and the lens into my face. I ended up receiving 5 stitches around my eye. If either the lens or temple had moved over another couple of millimeters it would have punctured my left eye. I have since tried looking for riding glasses that are impact certified but so far haven’t been able to find anything.
I live in Paris, and every cyclism shades will pass as goofy out of the bike anyway.
Personally I use the high end Van Rysel/ Decathlon glasses, with switchable lenses (one with slight yellow tint for low vis and a polychromic one for usual condition). They only cost 60 and are pretty good and ok looking.
I find it rather awful that this video is merely promotional porn for Oakley and not very informative, in fact.
I wear prescription glasses. My sons wear prescription glasses. We ride bikes a lot, and in fact my older son is in top 5 in my country (Romania), in XC. I would have liked to see some suggestions for those who have to combine permanent glasses with riding.
My solution, for those interested: photochromic lenses on sport-type frames. One can get decent prescription-lenses frames from aliexpress at 10-20USD (shape and quality close to Oakley and other producers that charge 10 times the price), and spend the money on good quality photochromic prescription lenses from producers such as Essilor without trading their kidneys. My son has two pair of glasses: one photochromic, strictly for riding the bike, and regular ones for school and everyday. I find solutions with mixed, double frames (with adapters for prescription lenses) tricky.
Seriously, guys, MTB can get outrageously expensive, give a bit of advice in how to do it cheaper…
Will you ever get the Under Armour change up I would like to know what you think about those glasses compared to oakley radar ev path
I just picked up a pair of under armour change up polarized sunglasses.
Did this video help? Do you still have more questions on what to consider when buying your first pair of road cycling glasses? Let us know below!
Had an eye test recently and the optician even said to me about how good Oakley polarised lenses are compared to the cheaper companies, they might be expensive but they are so worth it
GOD BLESS!!! Thank for the video!!! So for road cycling what’s you recommend? I like wind jacket 2.0 or 100% S3 if you recommend others let me know I want a new ones
Ha! I don’t skip head day either dude. So the Oakleys fit well on a big head? I always have trouble finding sunglasses that don’t death squeeze my head
I have a drawer on the way out with like 25 biking glasses in them. They all do the main thing. Protect from sun and stuff hitting my eyes.
GOD BLESS YOU BRO!!! This is my second time I see this video in the first I guide you my like bro I think I go with the wind Jacket what you think?
So this is a vid on Oakley mtb glasses? I thought it would of been variety from cheaper ones up to the expensive ones.! Oakelys are amazing to be fair its just an oakley review
Can someone recommend the one that doesn’t fog up too badly?
Im new to mountain biking.
I wear glasses normaly beacuse im nearsighted and
maybe somebody here could recommend me some good glasses so I can see fairly normal when Im riding. The price doesen’t mater
I made the mistake of buying cheap glasses for cycling. Then I crashed. The shattered glass almost hit my eye and nearly blinded me. From then on, I only bought Oakley’s. The shatterproof glasses are worth not getting blinded. Great video guys!
Oakley is honestly charging too little for Prizm Polarized. First time I put them on I thought holy shit I’ve been wearing garbage all my life.
For everyone who can’t put up with the extra cost of premium glasses, R2 make some really good low-budget options. I got a pair of excellent riding glasses for about 30 quid.
Do the 100% glasses fit asian faces? I see that they have 2 nose pad options and would love to try them. So far only oakley asian fit works for me. Thanks!
Is cycling a rich snob sport? I’ve seen multiple vegan videos about bang for your buck and the lowest cost items are still expensive. Dude amazon has glasses that are effective. that’s bang for your buck. These are pay for status.
#1 problem for me is RX cannot come in the new mono lens styles (i.e. POC) So I have to stick with an older style ala Oakley Flak Jacket.
I love most of these glasses but I was cursed with a round face and these all just look stupid on me. Finding glasses that don’t make me look like a total tool is really hard.
I am reading that the Oakley Sutros are not great on bright days, do you agree or can you provide any other information? I love how they look!
Couple of pairs of Bollé Contour Safety Glasses for £8 each, one pair in tint and the other in clear. Light, comfy, dont steam up, and I wont care if they get broken, which they never have. I would never ride without eye protection, having had rogue brambles catch my face, various bugs hit the glasses etc. Even more important on a night mtb race.
Any suggestions for people who wear eye glasses but can’t wear contact lenses?
Are there any glasses that fit over the top of optical glasses?
aaaaahmmm 200buck for some shades? really? thats cost more than my bike OMG!
3:41 I always have glasses under straps. You might pull off the glasses accidentally when taking of the helmet, drop them and damage lenses, so….them roadies are dumb ;-p
