I’m a sugar addict. I wish I could just stay at home, not have a social life and work from home and never leave the house because as soon as I do, I’m tempted everywhere with any little sugary thing I see. It’s hard for me to turn down anything sweet even if it’s bad for me, like even if it contains gluten or dairy since I’m allergic to both, I will still gobble it down because I have ah zeeeerro willpower to refuse once it’s in arms reach. This sucks. Until I become fully in control, I can not dance around temptation with the 80-20 thing. It will overpower me instantly.

My biggest problem is with breakfast. Pretty much in all camps, they have one or two recommendations. Eggs, plain greek yogurt or maybe in vegan is a ton of recipes for tofu or tempeh to mimic non-vegan breakfasts. Some cook needs to give some love to breakfast.

I gained nearly four pounds in 3 days despite cutting salt out. Im anorexic very upset. My bones are fragile and I cannot afford to be overweight but I cannot eat diabetic food as it sickens me. I will have to give it up form today.
I quit sugar for two weeks and went back to eating sugar for two weeks. Boy was I feeling ill during the last two weeks. My mood was so low and my performance got worse on my workout routine. I’m on my first day of quitting sugar again.

I tried every diet. I would start aggressively which would lead to quitting after few days. I realized that I had to gradually make changes instead of going cold turkey. once I did that I lost a bunch of weight right around 30 lb and sugar is a big cause of weight gain and crankiness. Save your life by saving the sugar for ants only.

Have been on a virtually carbless diet for five weeks. Three days in and I had withdrawals. I had someone working as my diet partner that helped me stay strong. After two weeks. I got to have a “cheat” meal. That helped. It was something to look forward to. At five weeks, I have lost 11 lbs and have had one glucose reading over 200. The biggest change has been the insulin issue. I have had to reduce my Lantus from 40 to 24 units per day. I still take homologue but only before lunch and or dinner, but I can’t take more than 8 units. This is the hardest most drastic diet I have ever tried, but seeing the immediate drop in the need for insulin has really helped me stay on the diet. Plus I do get my cheat meal every two week.
There is no reason to believe sugars, plants, etc. were put here for us. They were doing just fine. We might be the unexplained invaders still trying to figure out what to eat. I don’t think it’s carbohydrate.

My wake-up call came about a week ago when I had a routine physical exam and the doctor told me, “Your blood sugar is one point below diabetic!” Oops.
I’ve been a vegan for 18 years, and had quit drinking alcohol 12 years before that—after which I thought I had solved my sugar problem, to tell you the truth. I ended up substituting one addiction for another, of course.
I have tried to avoid processed foods, yet I know I still have a sweet tooth—as did my grandmother, who lost a toe and then a leg to Type 2 diabetes. (It was well-known she had pulled many of her own teeth by tying a string around the diseased tooth, tying the other end of the string to a doorknob, then slamming the door.) In her later years she was legally blind, and she died at 75 with an enlarged heart.
This past week of scrutinizing every label has been an eye-opener for me; it seems most processed foods I had taken for granted have some sugar in them: tomato sauce, cheese-flavored crackers, spicy potato chips, even salsa. I spent yesterday throwing away numerous items that had been opened; I’m going to take the unopened jars and boxes and donate them. And the six pints of vegan ice cream in the freezer? Down the toilet.
This past week I’ve felt a mental clarity that’s a great reinforcer to keep going; although I’ve skimmed articles over the years about “sugar brain” and “sugar belly,” I feel I’m on a new path.
I had tried sugar free diet and it workes well for my health. But im not that discipline. Now i quit diet because of work bussiness reason. It seems not practical. And my health just got worse.

i used to eat ice cream from the tub every single day. i was addicted to sugar it became such a problem. when i stopped prioritising satisfying my sugar craving, completely stopped buying ice cream for home and refocused my cravings on other wholesome foods i love to eat (eggs, avocado, broccoli), my cravings for ice cream disappeared. now i can enjoy ice cream on occasion when i go out without feeling the need to binge eat it.
having an 80/20 mindset doesn’t work: it’s like making sure sugar is a part of your everyday diet. so have a no sugar focus, because the chances of sugar and highly processed foods slipping in your diet everyday is very likely regardless.
but when you do have sugar, eat it as slowly as you possibly can: you’ll enjoy it more and it’ll satisfy your sugar craving much better.
intermittent fasting was also key for me because i wanted to spend the time i was allowed to eat on wholesome filling foods.

Last year I ate a candy bar for breakfast and a candy bar as afternoon snack (I was lazy). My system was lousy for a whole year; low energy and bad sleep. Didn’t know insulin spike was the reason. This year I stop eating candy bars and start my morning with one egg and a half of small avocado. My energy got back and I sleep much better, not to mention I am slowly losing the weight I gained last year.
I cut massive carb and refine sugar. Drinking green tea like 3-4 times a day, jog 4 times a week for 4 months, from 73kg to 58kg. Now I am weight 52-53kg:) still drinking green tea

I would appreciate if “experts” distinguish between type 1 and type 2 diabetes! Just to say “diabetes” is a WRONG information as we speak about two very different illnesses with completely different causes! Unfortunately they have a similar name due to the same treatment.
That means, eating sugar does not cause type 1 diabetes as this is an autoimmune reaction were the cause and the cure is yet to be found. Whereas type 2 diabetes is directly linked with overeating sugar and can be cured through healthy eating!
Other side note: She mentioned different effects in the body when eating bread or pasta. This is true but speaking about diabetes for type 1 and 2, bread and pasta is nearly as bad as pure sugar for those people. White pasta has no nutritional value but consists only of carbohydrates. All carbs are being converted into sugar in the body! Another dish such as vegetables would be much more appropriate if we want to address healthier eating for type 2 diabetics!

I don’t drink/eat sugar for a looong time now, I only drink water and eat food. No candy, no sugar rich deserts etc. My body feels great, I loss weight, no more headache. One thing I wondering is that how fat people would drink this, in my opinion they don’t respect their bodys, you decide what’s coming into your body and no one else. Sugar is a devestating shit.
Very simple, look at photos of people from the start of 80s and earlier. Notice something; they’re almost all thin. There were no gyms, no power drinks no diets, people actually had a problem with gaining weight, why is that? Their foods were high in fat but no processed sugar. They actually used to sell lard in cans, so women could gain weight and be “more attractive”.
This was the time before they started adding sugar to everything. You want to lose weight and keep it off? The gym isn’t going to help, you can never outwork a poor diet. It’s simple, stop drinking soda/pop/carbonated drinks, when you go to the grocery 99% of your food should be from the meat, fruit, veg sections, in other words, the perimeter the only thing you should buy from the inside, center of the store are toiletries and water.
Throw away your gym membership and eat delicious high-fat foods, do not get fooled by “organic” anything. I used to eat a lot of sugar and carbohydrates in general. 6 months ago I changed my diet, limited to 1500kcal a day and taking care of eating enough vegetables, meat and foods rich in fiber. Now I realize that I’m not a sugar addict anymore. I can walk through the supermarket without wanting to buy sweets or other treats. I can eat a piece of cake at a special event and then really enjoy it instead of eating sugary food various times a day just “because”. Because I was bored, because I was sad, because I had a hard day, because it just was that way…
And it really feels as if I had gone through rehab and been clean and relaxed for some months. Now my body doesn’t ask for sugar all the time and I feel much less hungry than I used to.
to anyone wanting to quit sugar:
the first week is awful, but once you get through that it gets easier with time. also, you might even over eat to compensate. try drinking tea or water instead of fruit whenever you get cravings, that way you won’t gain weight and overdo in calories. keep your mind occupied and expect to get anxious. the first weeks or so are hard, but after some time you stop craving sweets so much. good luck!

Carbohydrates are related to sugars and raise insulin. When insulin is high, the body stores fat instead if burning it.
Of course, there are different types carbohydrates (bread vs vegetables). So I guess you are giving a general advice to get people started on cleaning up their diet.

The kids I went to school with that ate a lot of candy were always the kids getting caught for acting out and/or drinking in high school. At my 20th high school anniversary those same adults were all divorced at least once, looked twice their age and were chubby alcoholics. The few candy kids that became stoners instead seemed ok for the most part and 2 had done quite well for themselves during the dotcom era. There were a few others that stayed on the sugar trail and didn’t smoke or drink, but they were obese and diabetic and even more so a concern depressed.

Anytime I eat sugar my stomach hurts and I don’t know why, so I usually just eat fruit or vegetables, and I have always hated meat, I hate fatty food and Ive never had McDonalds and when I tried it I Hated it. Anything other than whole fruit IS processed sugar. Maple syrup, agave and even honey are processed. Small amounts of raw honey are medicinal. But don’t mistake anything other than a whole piece of fruit for natural sugar. And the body definitely knows the difference.

Fruits are good as the video mentioned. Refined sugars should be avoided or at least minimized drastically. Eating a candy bar once a month wont kill you but binge on this stuff and your health will tumble. Those who are truly addicted to sugar may have to avoid it completely if they have no self control. Ive been doing keto and with good results. I know that I knock myself out of keto if I do carbs. That may happen only after 2 or 3 months when I can relax and splurge on occasion.

It’s false to believe that fruit, even those with high sugar is a risk, as in your ‘step 2’. Fruit has fibre to normalize the liver taking on sugar. Only way fruit can make you fat, is if you are still consuming sugar… and then it’s not the fruits, but the sugar that is making you fat.

The problem is not sugar per se, it’s refined processed sugar and over consumption of it like the Standard American Diet making White bread as a staple food is a very disastrous to health. From what I understand Recent research has shown that diabetes is not caused by sugar consumption. I think we are learning new things. I consumed a lot of sugar when I was younger but I lost interest in it over the years. We also forget there were brain runs on glucose, nothing else. Sometimes people hate sugar so much they forget that the reason we seek it is because our ancestors didn’t get enough of it. Our bodies know what we want. The problem is when we take it overboard assume all sugars are the same. There’s nothing wrong with consuming sugars at moderate levels, just don’t live on candy bars or eat sugar between meals just to get by.
