Training for a 1500-Meter Race If you’d like to improve your time in the 1500-meter event or you’re hoping to build up to running 1500 meters without stopping, you can use training programs and advice. Although these schedules and tips are for the mile distance, the distances are. These are just challenges you can complete in training. 1000m, 600m, 400m with 5 minutes and 3 minutes recovery (ie 1000m, 5mins rest, 600m, 3min rest, 400m). Your average pace for this workout is right around your 1500m race pace.
Let’s say you can run the 1000m in.Aerobic Training Methods Recovery Runs β typically 30-45 minutes in duration (target pace β 65-75% vVO2) Aerobic Development Runs β typically 45-70 minutes in duration (target pace β 70-80% vVo2) Long Runs β typically 70-100 minutes (some individuals may be as long as 120 min.) (target pace same as Aerobic Development Runs). One good way to include sprint training is by doing five to ten 100 meter strides or sprints at the end of each training session. Run Hills Hill training is one of the bread and butter workouts for mid and long distance runners.
Hill running is one of the most efficient ways to build your running strength.Training for a half marathon can be a daunting undertaking for even the most seasoned runners, and having a plan is crucial for succeeding come race day. There are a variety of resources available.
In training, vary the pace; you might have your athletes do a couple of 200’s at the beginning of the workout (600’s) and finish with a few more 200’s at faster than race pace. As with the 800 meter runners, the 1500/1600 meter runner needs to be able to come through the halfway point in the race.Lance Watson’s Lactate-threshold Test Set. Benefit: This main set divides the 1,500-meter race distance into three work intervals of decreasing length.
By swimming each at maximum intensity and then recovering, you train your body to sustain a faster speed over the total distance.Place two cones 100 m apart. Run from one cone to another 10 times, a total distance of 1,000 m. The requirement to slow down, turn and get back up to speed will break up your running rhythm, which results in a demanding and beneficial workout. Rest five minutes, then repeat the workout two to.Before you start, you should have your goal 1500 meter time as a gauge of how fast you want to run each 400 meter interval.
Let’s say you want to run a five minute 1500 meter. You take your time and divide it by four. This means you should run each 400 at 1:15 pace.Workouts that increase your anaerobic threshold. The 1600m race is a fast paced endurance race that is around 70% aerobic and 30% anaerobic.
When a runner trains and goes over a heart rate of around 170 bpm or 85-90% of their Vo2 max, their body’s aerobic system will no longer be able to completely supply the energy necessary to sustain that intensity or above. For the 800 and 1500 meters some key components of a mental skills training program can be developed to maximize performance. These specific aspects include: racespecific goal setting, understanding the rhythm of the race, understanding race strategy, developing an ability to “race” and respond, and being able to cope with pain. The 1500 and mile plan uses a multi-pace training program that includes workouts at all critical paces including endurance pace, lactate turn point pace, vVO2 max pace and sprint pace.
This program uses a variety of training paces including 400 meter race pace, 800 meter race pace, 5K.Studies on runners have been limited to 800-meter performance, time to fatigue on a treadmill at 1500-meter race pace, 5K performance and treadmill half-marathon performance. As with any type of training, these studies have shown a large individual response to tapering.
When planning training it is important to count back from the championship week(s). Keep in mind that each training cycle should not exceed 4-6 weeks as the training effect will be minimal beyond 6 weeks. During the early season it is wise to emphasize volume over intensity. Play to an athlete’s strengths.
The basics of 1600 & 3200 meter training adaptations are best understood after familiarization with “Critical Point” Training and the breakdowns of the 800m race. As speed remains the most important component of 1600 and 3200 meter racing, the 800m basic training carries over quite effectively to the longer track races (as well as cross.

Elguerrouj was the last true champion who never held back and ran true 1500m finals before it turned into 400m sprints
Plz respond! So I run everyday except Sunday, 700meters. 1.30 break, I do 5 laps, is this helpful or is this just a waste of time
3:50 for Olympic gold? Did they report that wrong? Because 3:50 is pretty slow for Olympic medalists to run. They’re usually around 3:30
But still good time
I watched ur videos so long time ago…..u r motivational for me Brother…thnx
My mile is 6:47 are there any other workouts I can do? I’ve been running for about 2 years currently doing Cross Country. Please, help.
Dear Brenda,
I wish you all the best for your upcoming event. When you toe the line on saturday take a deep breath and remind yourself that all you need is already inside of youyou’ve worked so hard, you stayed focused and resilient and you never ever gave up. Truly absorb all of what you have accomplished and remember: no matter what happens, you have worked so hard that you are playing around in the heavens (Diana Nyad Middlebury Commencement Speech https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JuJ-20qhaiQ ).
Courage,
Janette

How often do you train like this, everyday or every other day?
My 600 m is 1:50, my 500 is 1:20, my 400 is 59. My predicted should be a crazy 4:09, but it’s 5:00.
My 800 m is 2:24 and my 700 is 2:05. My predicted 1500 m should 4:30 but it is 5:00 min. Why? Can you help bring it down to 4:30. with some recommended workouts?
I run a mile in about 4:55, so if you have any other workouts you think would help me bring it down it would be very much appreciated
We run 1km in school and the top times get to participate in a 1,2km race with runners from all over the city. My time this year was 3m 49s which is 9 sec slower than last year. I never did any running except the running I do during my handball practice. But now I am motivated to compete in the race, so what kind of training would you do?
Thank you so much today I have competition and I hope I win this regionals
Great video!
I am competing in a military 1 km race in 3 months, which has max time limit 4:20. Just started training and my time for 1 km is 4:28. I think your video method will do me good. Right now my running plan for the week consists of two short-fast(6x100m sprints) and one easy run sessions, all these day by day. Also I incorporate a 3 times/week barbell strength training, the same days with the running ones. So, should I add more easy running days on my schedule and in that case wouldn’t that interfere with my rest days?
Thank you for your time.

My white sisters, simply get married to a Kenyan who’s a kalenjin by tribe so that you procure those genes and you’ll get your kids running fast. All you’re broadcasting is hogwash. Period.
Can you tell me your diet plan,?

Who else is rapidly watching tips for running because they have an 800m race tomorrow and don’t wanna fail
After those hard workouts do you do any easy/recovery runs later in the same day?
I have a 1500m race in a couple days for sports day I’m so nervous I came 2nd lol
I’m here because I have to run a mile at school any day of the week now soo… I’m terrified lol but hopefully this helps!!!
this may be very helpful. I’m average when it comes to weight. not very fat, but fat and averagely tall for a 13 year old. and I have to go 1500 for my sports day on Tuesday. hope this helps.
I got this coming up next month for sports day, my breathing is fine while running, everything is fine apart from my legs, when I did 400 metres, I did it in 72 seconds and when I was coming up to the finish line I felt like I was about to trip up because my legs weren’t keeping up with my brain if you know what I mean, they felt like jelly. Is this normal, do I just need to do more training? just to let you know I am 13 and do boxing tuesday and thursday, spinning wednesday and like 1300 jog on saturday and sunday
I always get out of breath when doing long distance how can I help this
This is honestly a great tip video. I’m glad I learned to look ahead not just ahead… but 30m ahead
Brooooo. I always look down when I run, no wonder I’m not that fast much
But isn’t hemoglobin almost saturated whit oxygen almost all time???
When you have asthma but the school put in the 1500 meter run ββοΈ
I’m Japanese. I can’t understand English. But I could understand from pictures.
This all applies to any other distance run. 800, 1600, 3200, and 5k
I did this session and it brought my PB down by 15 seconds and reckon could bring it down more as the season continues. Would also recommend doing 6x300m or 5x400m with 30s recovery each 2-5 seconds above race pace. My race pace was 80s per lap so for 300m it was 57s, and 400m it was 77s
Y friend do 1600 in 4 minute 6 second
His video video on YouTube
I ran 1500 m at my meet today, I came first! Thanks to these tips! They really help!

Hay men where is your legs moment we can’t see and what kind of stuff hear we learn
We Hera not only see you we Hera to learn something
But now with this workout, I feel much more confident ans post consistent times.
When u run u should only use the leg with a lot of power and ur chest should be u relax so u would not get tire
You need to put on a pair of track spikes. Those VaporFly makes you run slower on the repeats.
1500m is about mastering mental an physical tactics,….get both right,… key to a world class 1500m runner,..

Hi Brenda when I made 4’00″66 at age 41 I was unable to make this workout, my best workout were 7x400m at 63.8 with 2′ rest. So I am sure you have the potential to run under 4′.
ATTENTION:β‘ IM LOST AT HER TRAINING SOMEONE EXPLAIN PLEASE EXPLAIN WHAT SHE DOING.
Today is our birthday

You are the best runner
And iam your biggest fan madam
hello sir my 1600mtr timing is 5mint but i want 4.40 wt i do pls help can i uae pre workout,, protin or other pls say best leg exercise
What I humbly appreciate is the consistency of her times. She’s got great command of her pace. It seems her times don’t just vary randomly because she’s tired; but I can tell when it “does” vary in time it’s because she meant to. That’s command.
Great workout Brenda! Cheering for you. Fans from Guatemala!
Nice video! I think it would be cool to mix up the shot selection just a bit more. While we appreciate seeing the full rep, if you want us to “feel it” mixing up the angles will help. Examples include placing the camera on the inside of the track for the 1st 100m and then placing the camera along the back stretch. Also adding some commentary about why 10 X400m is a good measure for you at this point in your training would be interesting and insightful. I know training is tough so talking through your workout might be difficult, but you can shoot the training portion of the video and then come back and do a voice over or use another location for the commentary. Hope to see you at The Armory in a few weeks!
Nice workout… It’s amazing how long 64 seconds can become and how short 2 minutes can become π
Love this!! It would be super cool if you could add commentary to your videos and narrate, like tell us what your feeling during your work outs and give tips:) I’m sure we can learn a lot!!
Wonder if the others around the track realize they are in the company of a world class runner? I’m cheering for you Brenda as you move up in distance! Good luck and good health to you.
