Begin seated in Staff Pose (Dandasana) with both legs extended in front of you and the spine nice and straight. Bring the leg less far towards the body will allow you to sit with a straight back. This is also why this pose strengthens your low back because it takes lower back muscles to keep bringing the lower back forward which keeps you from collapsing backwards too much.
