Hey DoctorJo when i straighten by back it hurts so much. I’ve never tried it before I’m 14 yrs old and yea I sit I front of my screen long time. So I just want to know if you can help me. Also when I stretch sometimes it says a crack sound and then hurts as h*ll also when I breath it hurts

Love your videos. I’m 26. I’m having neck pain because of bad posture playing mobile games and console. I watched your neck pain relief video posted couple of years back and it helped me. Thank you for ♥️♥️

I have radiating pain from right side of the neck to right hand and right shoulder blade. This becomes worse when doing any overhead exercises. Is it safe to do these exercises?
Hi Adriene, best regards and thanks to you. It will be the best ever if you could record a yoga lesson that eases pinched nerve pain in the upper back between shoulderblades. Due to sitting a lot in front of the laptop whilst writing my thesis I am having upper back pain from a pinched nerve as explained by https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y4UKKCg_aUU&t=32s
The excersize in that link helps a lot, but I was wondering if you knew more excersizes to help.
My best your ways, Beri
Thank god for YouTube! Wow I feel grate just off the first 2 exercises!! Thank you guys!!
I have a question I had empyema and the surgery they cut from under the left boob almost to the spine what exercises that I do to strengthen the muscles through my rib cage and both arms
When I did the stretch I felt pain in my spine but right under the neck
Is that a problem?
I’m going to try this. I have severe thorasic muscle spasms that feel as though there is trapped air behind my lungs. My pain was so severe this morning, I thought I needed to go to the hospital. I spend a lot amount of time at a computer with very bad posture, so hopefully this and correcting my posture will help.
“Tight muscles need to be strengthened not streched, massaged or released” = most solid advice ever!! I got shoulder pain and thought it was tenonditis. Turned out it was a tight infraspinatus because it was weak and could not support the shoulder. I strenghened it, pain gone. Then I got shoulder pain again. This time it was a super tight upper trap. Why? Because of weakness too. Strengthened it, guess what? Problem gone. Thanx guys!!
My upper back pain disappear after 2 times 30 seconds of this strech. Thanks doc Jo. Amazing!
I had an injury at sky zone and now my upper/middle back hurts alot
Great video as always guys! I have a couple questions though. What do you think are the differences between using bodyweight as the load stimulus versus using an external load (via weights or resistance bands) in a PT setting? Also, can someone go to physical therapy for just for improving posture?
Great content. Do you know if the same applies for the pecs?
Should I do more chest presses to loosen the pecs?
This felt so good to do I had no idea how I was gonna get that part of my back and now I’m smiling so hard bc I already feel relief
I never leave comments on YouTube videos, but I must!!!! I am suffering from chronic upper trapezius pain… Recently I been using lacrosse ball and foam rolling my upper traps and it has been causing more pain.. I decided to follow this video and do strength training instead of stretching and massage. Boy was I surprised after following these strength exercises my pain has subsided almost completely just the first day of strength training!!!! It is a MIRACLE! I thought exercises would just aggravate the pain more, but I was completely wrong!!!! God bless you and your teachings.
im 18 and had spine surgery when i was 14 so i have chronic upper back pain and this is definitely one of the best stretches i have tried!
Since August, I have been doing your 5 minute arms routine and the results are spectacular!! I always have neck and shoulder pain, so I will definitely try this new routine. Thank-you for your videos.

Retired EDMD here. This is really excellent! Very well explained!
Thanks for the explanation! But I didnt get why you mentioned he Vigotsky et al. Study, hy is this relevant to this topic?
No idea how I managed to get myself in pain in this muscle area, but this exercise actually fixed it, thank you:)
I’m definitely going to try these exercises. Do you usually see upper back pain worsening at night?
hi sir,
i had lower back pain at first, after detailed check up doctor advised me to go through some physio therapy exercises for my posture correction, and between the days i failed to continue the exercises due to some reasons and the pain is back again. should i just continue the exercises or should i go for detailed scanning to find out any other reasons for the pain.
I have been in excruciating trap pain for 3 days. I just did all 3 exercises and I’m finally feeling relief! Thank you!
If you are a guy and don’t have a bra strap but your hands over your nipple and the bottom of your hand is about where a bra strap would be

Wow! I felt a lot of pain after this but now I feel ALRIGHT!:D
Thanks a lot sir….. relief for pain on spine thanking you sir
Shoulder stiffness made it became difficult to me, it was very irritating and I was not able focus on my work anything tried many things but did not relief but only Planet Ayurveda herbal remedies helped me a lot.
Thank you for the information, I do have a question though, with tight (and weak) upper traps with trigger points, would you guys recommend just strengthening exercises like above or do you reckon other alternative therapies such as dry needling to go together with exercise works? Hope I’m making sense, thanks!
Did Arnold do a voiceover??
I love this guys voice btw, no hate whatsoever
this was very helpful, I realise my issue is with the mobility. the fetal position stretch was perfect
I suffer from weak upper back & chest muscles due to stopping hormone pellets treatment. How many reps & sets of these would you recommend on a daily basis? Thanks
Interesting. I was in a car accident back in January and have been going to physio all year for my back and neck injuries. Still having a lot of pain and stiffness through out my back and my mid back, upper traps and neck flare up like crazy even with a very minimal workout. So I’m wondering, if my upper traps are really sore and flared up, should I be working through that and continuing to try to strengthen them? I’m stuck in a cycle of trying to strengthen usually a week long miserable flare up where I’m constantly stretching and looking for ways to reduce pain repeat.
thank you very very much, that really helped, im back to normal
Wow I mean, I’m kind of shocked of how bad I was feeling 10 minutes ago and how relaxed and happy I am right now. Plus my back and shoulders hurt sooo much less Thank you so much for this amazing exercises!
Hi! just stumbled on your channel..i dint know my pain had a name..”thoracic spine pain” I especially liked that I can do the exercises on my own without a third-party and they very specifically (right on target) address my pain problem. I’ve subscribed. Hope to watch more of your clips. Thank you.

Is doing markatasaan safe in backpain…or..taking hot shower on backpain is a good idea.. Please let me know how to get rid… I am stuck in a month lockdown.. Please help..
Looks like I have upper back center pain…. Are these excerise safe to do with backpain…
In the case of shoulder impingement syndrome should working out the traps be mostly avoided?
I watched Athlean X and a good exercise for the traps is to take a 25 pound weight plate and start with arms extended out in front of you at chest level and raise it up just above your head at an angle and lower it again to chest level. I tried it and it’s an awesome strengthening exercise for the traps. Jeff Cavaliere is the best.
Will this decrease the activity of the upper trap in other exercices such as lateral raises or bench press? If not, how can I decrease upper trap activity.
I have Ehlers dannlers Syndrom if I would do this exercise my neck would break
Thx for the vid ima watch it later and yoga is one of my goals
Helped my tight, immobile back just after doing as many of these as I could. Question: When I do the first exercise (the twist) I can feel it in my lower back. I’ve got my knees up as far as I can bring them. Is it okay to feel that lower back in that exercise?
Why is your left shoulder higher? Tight upper trap? Strenghten the already strong muscles sound bad tbh.
Just tried this and not had time to do the whole thing but feel very optimistic, thank you!
Wow this is amazing. Just after doing one set of this has tremendously taken off the pressure off my upper-back. Not just that. It’s strange but I started standing a lot more erect any felt how my abs and glutes were immediately engaging a lot more, and as a result taking off compression from my lower back. I guess the trapezius muscle become really weak from computer slouching. Thank you Michelle! Much love! Are there any progressions that could be made from this exercise, specifically where abs and glutes were trained more?
Yo YouTube’s videos on health are so good I twisted my ankle yesterday and then watched a video now I’m walking fine, I had trouble sleepin cuz of a tight trap and now I feel nothing HAHA it’s great!
i have a question. How do you tell the pain is because of lack of mobility or satability.
Too much talking bro. Get to it ppl will appreciate that more.
Hi Physiotutors, any chance you can clarify on the first exercise please? You say one arms length away from wall, is that when standing tall with arms perpendicular to the floor because that means you bend forward to be able to slide/shrug hands up wall? Or am i supposed to stand tall whilst i slide/shrug hands up wall in which case i need to stand closer to the wall? I have tried both ways and it seems a great exercise to expose my weak traps, my guess is to be stood tall throughout with no bend as a bend might not be good for the neck right?
Mam when i inhale very deep than my back pains. I m very suffering from 4months pls guide me
How do i strenghen the lev scap to counter lev scap pain? Thanks!
I have severe upper back pain at night, doesn’t matter what potion I’m in I cant sleep its unbearable.
This is good news, if true. Exercising is easier to acquire than massage.
Dr. J I’m dealing with so much pain and inflammation in my back from having thoracic back issues. I’m so frustrated because I’m literally in pain everyday and I’m just over it. Can you please give me any advice, I would so appreciate it.
How many series (+ nr of times per serie) do you advise per excercise?
Can you please share the link for the straps (used in rows)?
Do you have any recommendations for straps I can use in home setting without much installation efforts?
Just found your videos. Wow. I tried this movement to release my upper traps and I can’t believe it. It is the miracle cure. Thank you for posting. I look forward to the rest of your videos. I teach fitness classes and I will be incorporating your technique.
honestly a great video. quick question, am I supposed to be able to support my back without leaning on something for the entire session? I really can’t and im pretty worried
The wall angels were the one for me my posture is awful this has helped thanks!
I haven’t done yoga in some time but these last few mornings I’ve woken up with back pain and today I thought to myself: I should do yoga with Adriene. It has proven effective in the past, hopefully it will again. Thank you!
I wasn’t feeling a good stretch until I tried to bring my upper arms up by my ear and then i suddenly felt the super-stetch. My upper back has been screaming for 6 months and nothing seems to help. That, however, felt great. Thanks!!!
One of my favorite bed-time rituals is rotating my neck round and round, a soundtrack of cricks and cracks following from my joints, and murmuring “daily neck hygiene is soooooo important” while my husband watches, terrified.
Thank you! Been trying the chair and the roller, will incorporate the thoracic twist on the ground with knees up, I do that in yoga. Will focus on strengthening next.
i feel my bones crunshing a lot when I did the “shoulder reach the back pocket” exercise.
is that normal???
My back is tight from my upper back to my waist and swollen on the right side. Can you suggest exercises to help. It has been like this for a couple of years. I cant break the tension. Physio doesnt help.
Isn’t it counterintuitive to strengthen the upper traps if it’s been known as an overstimulated muscles prone to tightness, fatigue and trigger points / muscle knots?
How has absolutely no one commented about the music?! What song is this!?
hi I’m 14 and have been experiencing upper-mid back pains that feel kind of like a pinched nerve for four days straight. It hurts to breathe, move, lie down. or pretty much do anything. Does anyone know how i can remedy this?
I love yoga with Adriene! THANK YOU! You Rock!:) What a blessing your youtube channel is.
I have been doing yoga for about two months now but still have persistent upper back pain between my shoulder blades. This exercise has helped me so much! It’s so simple to do, I will be doing it often. Thank you!

Very useful, just tried the wall stretch and feel the trap stiffness is reduced.

What can I do for lower back pain? After standing for few hours at work my neck and lower back will start to ache badly:(
Hi Tks, for these amazing mid-back exercises. I have problem with the Angel Wall exercise my left arm just refused to touch the wall. There would be tremendous pain if I force it. What should I do to fix that? Tks!
Current im having a foward head posture with very tight upper traps. Is it safe to do this exercise and will it improve my posture?
Thank you for sharing good things… How many time we can do it in a day?
God bless you. Just did it and had immediate relief. I’ve been in pain, for over 5 days now. I’ve tried everything, stretching and muscle relaxants. Nothing worked. I was obviously doing the wrong stretching. Thanks for your expertise.
Thanks, i had pain, i did 2 times and stretched it good, and it’s gone, ok not gone, but a lot better!
Holy smokes that was awesome. I’ve been having really really bad neck pain (chiropractor appointment on Friday) but this really helped! Thanks so much! I’m gonna have to start doing this regularly.
With the Wall Angels, if I can’t actually get me knuckles to the wall what can you suggest to rectify this please?
Hi and thanks for the help. I wanted to see is it possible to do these strengthening exercises every day or every other day? I by myself prefer to do that every day to see the results faster. In the meantime I’m exercising every day at home.
Thank you Andrea and Brittany!!! You are both fantastic!!! Great help.
I’ve been doing this workout on a regular basis, plus your five minute arm workout, for over a year now. These exercises have made a HUGE difference. My neck has always been week and I had a neck hump when I began this exercise. My neck hump is gone, my neck is stronger and can rotate easily, and I have less tension headaches then I used to. I recommend this workout to all.
Just completed ‘self love’ practice & nearly always finish my sessions with your ‘shoulder, neck & back 10 mins little ditty’! Hope you are getting lots of fresh air and having sometime with your family & Benji. Thinking about everyone at this time. Yoga rocks. Thank you Adriene:-) xxx
This little upper back practice is so valuable for me (amongst many others) as I am a baker: I need to strech. Thank you very much for making yoga accessible to everyone around the world. I love when Benji is on as well:) send good vibes from France
I just had a cholecystectomy. Once I got home and the major medication wore off my back of my neck was incredibly stiff. Then I noticed some pain in my thoracic spine that was very painful. I thought it was a kidney infection because it was close to the same kind of pain. But it was actually a thoracic sprain. What I don’t understand is how did I get a thoracic strain when I haven’t been exercising. When they put you under do they sometimes move your body around in ways that you could have a muscle pulled. Anyway thanks for the exercises
i injured it from cheating on my curls… like wtf who thought that couldve happened??
I slept wrong last night and woke up with my neck and shoulder sore and tense. Just this short practice and I feel so much better.
ONe of my favorite practices, and do it quite often because I get lots of spasms and it helps. Thank you
Wow really resonates with me at this time, thank you for sharing this.
Great work guys, love to see the right messages getting out there especially regarding stretch/soft tissue release vs strengthening
It would be helpful if you would have a tank top on instead of the sweater, which is all bunched up so it’s hard to tell what you’re doing. Also, too much background noise. Will try these though, I’m desperate!
Sir I have a Question: after I do Push up exercise then I cough a a smaall amount of Blood what is the posssible cause bleeding.. please answer my question thank you.
My right upper trap hurts when bench pressing i stopped pressing movements but i think the problem that they are over active and my right arm is stronger than my left
If I have upper to middle back pain, how do I know if it is the rhomboids, the lower to middle part of the trapezius, the levatores costarum longi, the multifidi, or the longissimus thoracis? I`ve been facing that pain for most of my life (196cm tall) and I am pretty certain its only a muscular thing. Problem is, I have yet to find an exercise that really targets that spot. And it does not make it easier if I do not know which muscle(s) are actually the problem. All I can say is that the usual bodybuilding exercises do not target that spot much, if at all (rows, lat pulldown, reverse butterfly,… It seems that the function that problematic muscle has is the extension at that part of the spine where my pain is. which, I guess, would rule out the trapezius? Thanks!
OH MY GOODNESS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THANKS A LOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thank you so much for the video. This video helped me to relieve the pain which I had for more than a decade. I’ve been doing these exercises for more than 6 months now. The best pain reliever is the foam roller. The best video ever that changed my whole life. Keep up the good work….
Is it ok to do them after a few months of l4 l5 surgery?I have stiffness on mid and upper back
Would be great if you reply
Just what I needed to help me release Upper Back Muscle Pain at home.
Normally I dont have back pains but due the COVID-19 My country it’s on a lockdown and I’ve not been doing a lot and started having intense pains that I couldn’t even sleep well but after trying this i feel relieved.
I jumped from 10ft height 2 months back n stressed my right leg n past 10 days only developed severe pain in my right leg travelling from knee to toe as I walk so applied cold gel pack but no relief and past 5 days developed left upper back pain so applied heat through heating pad..just saw your video n found you a learned Doctor.please suggest what to apply on leg & back (hot or cold therapy) and any interlinked excercise which can cure both my pain..kindly help.
I would like to see more of these videos! I get terrible knots in my neck and shoulder blade due to work! These Definitely help
I have a persistent upper traps problem post partum. My doc told me that it due to overuse and weakness. Till now I dont get time to rest. But I regularly do the stretches and was having sessions for massage and release. Today I realize that I did not strengthen it. Will try the exercises you taught for a couple of weeks and update. Thank you very much!
I have scoliosis (sideways and back to front) and a wedged thoracic vertabra from an old fracture, all of which can, at times, cause agonising muscle spasms. Your exercises immediately brought me a measure of pain relief though I have to proceed very carefully and over the last week I have more movement in my upper body and shoulders. Thank you so much!
Fantastic exercises. My thoracic spine has been killing me for the last week. I did all of the exercises in this video and got some immediate relief. I did them in the order shown and I think the first one had the most effect. A big THANK YOU!
I try do this exercise and seems he succeds perfect but when i do this 3:16 i feel weird in my arms in tricep or beetwen tricep and bicep, like streching. what that means? Madam Michelle:)?

But then I started to and still have pain for last 5 months in thoracic area. I take pills and then pain goes away withing day or two. After that when I do the rows or wall angels it feels good but pain comes back within next 10 days max. I also do all of mobility exercise but feeling so stiff and stuck. Now even my low back pain is coming back. Please help me with advice. What to do first? Mobility or strenght? Low back or upper? No one in my area helped me. I went to numerous fiziotherapysts. Congratulations for you’re channel! Probably the best in physio on youtube! I’ve some questions, many patients have recurrent episodes of upper trapezius pain… You recommend to make these exercices during they are in pain or pain free (or both)? And for you, what are the best exercices when they’re in pain? Thanks in advance!
i had a rough day today so i jswitched my daily yoga challenge for this 10-minute and oof, already much better.
also Adriene taught me so much about respecting my body and limitations and not getting frustrated over the things i couldn’t do today. Tomorrow is a new day to try. Namaste!
Thank you! This is wonderful! Your yoga practices are the best I have done.
This is a great video super informative and clearly explained. It made me realise I’ve been using my foam roller wrong for ages! Just like you describe I’ve been tensing my abs and holding myself up. I just did it the right way and it feels much better!
I always have mid thoracic pain right below the shoulder blades
Totally agree. The upper traps and it’s weakness causes bad headaches in the temple and neck pain. My therapist said tight muscles are week muscles. I found that standing and simply doing circles with arms out is a very good exercise. Thanks for sharing this video
Thanks you so much for the video! Any recommendation for the set and rep of the exercise? Also can you give some recommendation on feeling of tight and sore QL? What eccentric exercise is good for back muscle?
Hi i love ur video but i have lot of pain when I go to bed I can’t sleep a single minute I have lot of pain in my left neck and shoulder it cause my full back pain at night plz help me out of this this pain cause me fever loss of strength thanku
Right in the centre of the. Back at the same time right in the centre of my breast hurts bad only during the mid night and I just can’t sleep on the left or right I have to get up and sit down or keep loads of pillow and sit upright until morning
Thank you for all your wonderful videos for neck, shoulders and headaches. I cannot tell you how many times I have come to your channel to cure me of my headaches. Thank you thank you thank you!
Thank you so much I’m only 20 years old and I have the worst upper back pain this helped me a lot I’m so grateful thank you again
Hey! First of all, great video it gets to the point and explains very well the logic behind the exercises. I have contractures in my upper traps that go to my neck too (just the right top side though), should I do these exercises or something else too? Thank you, in advance. And happy christamas.
Wow wow wow! I’ve had severe upper back pain for the last several days and I can’t believe after doing these two moves how much better I feel!! Thank you so so much!!
That first exercise is amazing.
I was having so much pain..
I just did your first exercise for 3 times..omg all my pain gone.
Thank you so much
Thank you, Adrienne for this yoga routine. I came here once when I had a headache. I thought it goes away because I took painkiller. Second time I tried not taking the medicine and wow this routine takes away my headache. Amazing. Thanks again!
thank you so much! it is easy to follow as this is my first time watching it
I was feeling a lot of tension in my neck and arms and after this video I feel so relieved and good and happy ❤❤
Thank you for this amazing video you’re a life saver
loved your way… thank you.. i feel relief in my neck and shoulders… God bess you…
I rarely comment on youtube videos, and I’m not sure that you’ll see this. But I have been having so many problems with upper back pain, specifically around my shoulder blades, and this has helped so much. I had absolutely no pain yesterday for the first time in a long time, and I just wanted to say thank you for dedicating your time to helping all of us. We appreciate you more than you know.
Michelle is australian so I have full confidence. We have good physiotherapist a little bit expensive but i guess its on par with service.
I’ve had problems with my traps for years now, it all started off when I started trying to sit correctly in work,
I used to tilt to one side with my legs crossed not sure why, I would have my keyboard titled to one side as well and never have two feel flat on the floor it was very strange and how sure how or why I adopted that posture.
Anyway ever since then I’ve had issues with my traps, i’ve seen two physios had numerous ergonomic assessments, work bought me a new ergonomic chair and I started to feel better after a while (but what I actually think happened was I went back to my weird way of sitting).
Currently I’m trying to sit properly again but my traps are just killing me, it’s mainly my right one (mouse side) but some days it moves to the left, it can vary but both sides are really sore, what I find happens is it gets so sore I move into a weird posture and shrug my shoulders up because i’m in so much pain and I get really bad headaches.
Do you think these exercise would help me? Should I try be stretching or trying to build muscle
Thank you for this! The instructions were very clear and the 8′ min stretch was gold:)
Thank u verry much…
I have a pain in my upper back killing me about three month n when might come it’s so pain full an when morning reach i can’t moov n it give a bad tiredness an am suffering real bad.
Thank u so much for the vedeo
As a weight lifter this video helps considerably. Will be watching this video ritualistically
Adriene, I have suffered from migraines my whole life. I’ve made some life changes: I see a chiropractor, use essential oils and have found out that corn was giving me most of my migraines, but aside from cutting corn out of my diet, I get the most immediate relief from doing yoga with you, especially this video! You have helped me through migraines, body pain, times of crippling loneliness and depression. What you do is a gift from God, and I thank you and Him for it. I relate best to you, more than any other yogi. Your videos are the best and I’m so grateful for you and them! ❤️Thank you!
Lateral raises shouldn’t have a high upper trap activation though right? Then you’re not doing the movement right, as you want to isolate the deltoids as much as possible
Thanks for the explanation. Very helpful steps for my back strengthening.
Whenever I do shoulder workouts (especially dumbbell flies) it causes my neck and back of head to become really painful and tight. I also have large super tight upper traps that extend to my neck even (2 chiropractor told me I have very tight upper traps), should I be doing these exercises?
OMG I had this back pain for 3 days straight and this one technique fixed it I’m an instant. That’s crazy! Thank you so much!
Without releasing a Tight muscle how come is it possible to strengthen the same?
I have been living with thoracic pain for almost 3 yrs…no dr. wants to deal with it…when you say back pain…drs. always go to lower…so that’s where I’ve had the mri’s on….which do show stenosis….guess that’s why i have sciatic pain down to foot….but that constant pain in the mid of back is the killer….i was doing cobra and it seem to help…but saw online i shouldn’t do that with stenoisi……thanks for sharing.
I have some kind of disomfort in my upper spine, what could it be?
Thank you. I have frozen shoulder (which is slowly defrosting) and these exercises are helpful.
Great. You know what helped me allot? The row machine. The three sets of ten and holding it for a couple seconds each row. The hardest was the wall press and lifting my arms. Keeping my hips press against the wall was horrible. Loved the video.
For the past month, I’ve been starting my day with yoga. There’s so many videos to choose from but I am always drawn to yoga with Adriene. This video in particular is so incredibly helpful! Thank you so much for all of these! I hope to do them all eventually!
after around 15 minutes of boxing it feels like my left lower and weaker trapezius is on fire and i simply cant ignore the pain, surely i’m strengthening my traps this way so why would i still feel pain?
Is anyone else having problems breathing because of there a pain
exactly what i needed! i had such a tight neck and shoulders for the past 2 days and this saved me
i probably come back to this video at least once a week. thank you greatly for this, Adriene!
Does exercising them instead of stretching apply to overuse as well? For example: if you have tight scalenes from long sitting forward head posture should I strengthen the scalenes? Thanks
In the beginning of the video you said there’s no equipment and then you pulled out the weights
I did this yoga for the first time and my neck, shoulder and hand pain got reduced. I find yoga relaxing and calming than other forms of cardio or exercise.. great job Andriene..keep doing more videos..can you make a video like 30 day yoga challenge for beginners?
Is it safe to do the “Prone W” exercise? I had a subocciptal craniectomy 5 months ago and I am concerned about too much cervical extension even though the exercise focuses on the thoracic spine.
Wow! It seems so nice. And relieving. I have started practicing it from today. This morning. I have been feeling pain in my neck. Just smoothed out my pillow. I believe it’s due to it unequal surface in my sleep. Just wondering, how many days will it take me to learn this practice by heart? Thanks for such calm video.
Thanks mam. this is very helpful me. Any video please let me know.
Hello my name is Carolyn and I suffer from Fibromyalgia and Costochondritis. You’re yoga videos are helping me a tremendous with the pain. For a couple of hours after you’re videos I can enjoy less pain and have a better afternoon.
Any advice for traps pain from anxiety and depression? Every time I try to workout I get tight traps the next day
My spine has a light but anoyying constant pain, i hope this will help a bit.
Thanks. It worked. Wish u could tell a routine for complete back stretching or pain relief
Hlo sir….I am from India, I was having spine pain since 6 months.
I followed your exercises and my spine pain gonna like a magic…you are superb sir…please keep providing your valuable videos…
This one really helps me from upper backache. It’s actually for beginner because you will not feel any pain after doing it. Recommend<3
I have been in pain for less than a week and this did me a world of good. I used a Lululemon hand towel to do the exercise on my bed (even though it was not recommended). Big thanks to you Michelle. Love George from Toronto, Canada: August 14th, 2019 at 11PM
Amazing yoga for the neck, shoulders.
I have created a youtube channel and I would love some support and feedback.:-)
Just started to incorporate this to my novice workouts. I’m in my 40’s and have back issues. I believe flexibility is a must. Have a wonderful day. And see you tomorrow
Could right upper traps be why i.can never feel my traps when I do trap exercises but when doing shoulder exercises they become overactive
I am in shock right now. I had my right shoulder hiked up all day because putting it down was unbearably painful. This three minute video relieved 80% of the pain I was experiencing!! Thank you doctor Jo!!!
I appreciate your content, back pain has been plaguing me for two years now. I have one suggestion from a production aspect wallpaper. Go watch your favorite movie and look the walls inside the houses, they aren’t going to be plain white walls. Wallpaper adds so much production value!
As an FYI to others in search of an answer. I’ve had “rhomboid” area pain for almost 2 years. Multiple physical therapists, and 2 MRIs. Poking, prodding, neck & scapular & shoulder stretching and strengthening, a Cortisone shot… all did nothing.
FINALLY, a non-professional suggested it might be nerve damage (entrapment), and it was. If all else is failing, you should consider a Nerve Conduction Study.
What’s stunning to me is that the possibility it was nerve related was never brought up by a physical therapist. I understand they probably aren’t proficient in the area, but should be aware.
My every day portion of a self love Thank you, Adriene
Many other channels talked about these exercises, but your instructions and reps and sets really made the difference. I knew these movements from other channels but i got the results from your video and instructions, my back and arm pain lasted more than half a year, now most of the pain is gone. Thank you so much doc.
Hello to those with tight upper traps! I hope I can help here. I’m an Australian Physical Therapist who’s passionate about trying to understand and solve the root cause of common issues, and I’ve put together a short video on how to improve upper trap tightness and stop it from coming back. Basically, tight upper traps have everything to do with stiffness in the upper back (rib joints) and lower neck joints. These joints often become tight and overloaded and ask the upper traps to tighten in support. So any long-term solution needs to address these hidden deeper features. Obviously, posture plays a huge role here too and it’s important to make sure you don’t let those shoulders drop and roll forwards (and keep them there) for any meaningful length of time. This consistently overloads the very tissue responsible for tightening up those traps in the first place and can’t be neglected. Hope it helps! https://youtu.be/hBeGLjUmDuQ
why did u say namasteh? itsn’t supposed to be allah akbar? its like a synonym
Do these exercises apply also for a tight and slightly painful trap coming from an open window in car?
The exercises are good, it is really works for me. Thanks for sharing your knowledge it really helps
She looks like she is in pain,I can almost see it.I’m In so much pain daily I can barely stand it any more. The burning in my back muscles from DDD,RSD,etc..(old work injury)is getting really bad. Don’t know what to do any more. I think I need an exercise regiment that won’t destroy my back. I can’t lay on my spine like that with a towel under me. Discs are everywhere but where they are supposed to be. Any suggestions please..? Its ok if not. Peace ✌️
Adriene, Thanks very much for another great video. I like the advice to let of things. It helps me ground me in my practice
This is very helpful right now. I’m using your videos every day. Thank you
Thank you very much.Yiur videos are really useful for everyone. By the way, your wife is so pretty.Be happy forever.
Thank you for the video! The first exercise gave me instant relief. I have a little concern, I love doing foam roller, but when I my head goes down(i mean when I face up) I feel nausea and uneasy. Sometimes when I lay down without pillow I feel like that. Do you have any information about this symtom? Thanks!
Sir my trap hurts whenever i sleep on my side for a quite time now. If i sleep on my left my right will hurt with some aches on left what could cause this. When this happens my neck is very heavy and i can’t carry my neck straight please help me.
i have a scoliosis and when i did the 03.55 part omg it hurts so bad but i made it to the end! thankyou so much
thanks a lot i’m tired of massaging and stretching with no benefits
I have terrible pain in neck and upper and lower back for last 7 years. I cannot do job, can not sit normally without sitting with lots of back support. Get pain extremely intensify if I can with computer. Gets much better if I walk or play tennis. Please guide me from where to start. X rays shows that my neck is straight like a rod and some meat(do not right term) comes out between c4 and c5. All doctors and help told me its posture issue. I am taking online classes and write on ipad for 1 hours and cry for next 23 hours. Please guide me what to do, dos and don’ts. Again I cannot sit on a normal chair it hurts from neck to leg
Mam Can we do this exercise for curvical rib sympyoms pain in neck nd upper back
Great video in my opinion, woke up this morning with some severe, sharp upper-mid back pain most likely from sleeping bad and I tried these stretches then went to the gym and the pain drastically reduced. Thank you for sharing your knowledge.
for me laying down on my front and bending one of the knees so the foot raises from the floor helps with neck tension. but i will try this exercise to see if it also helps.

Have been doing these for a week, so impressed with the result!
I get bad upper back pain from sitting at my deskthis has been life changing for me!
I have been looking for a good stretch for neck/shoulders for so many years! gah! Thank you for posting this!
I sit at a desk half of the day and use my standing desk position the rest of the time and I’m still sore af, but this short session is literally a life changer! I will make this a nightly routine from now on! Thank you!

I am Trap dominant and have been told to avoid any Trap exercises my original problem was weakness in Rotator cuff. However whenever I train, be it press ups or shoulder press, I always experience pain and stiffness in my Traps and neck. Recently I just have to stop whatever I’m doing. Not sure if your exercises would help.
Dr. Jo i got a muscle injury in my upper back during chinning.. I have consulted local doctors and x ray report is absolutely normal.. But now small exercise is calling upper back pain again vividly.. Please tell any remedy to get relief from this hazard…
with weigths its does feel nasty my upper back is so tight from sports that its difficult to catch a deep breath im just curious what would be the best exercise for fix the problem and breath normally and deep:)
Thanks ladies, really suffering with neck pain and shoulder pain. Will definitely be doing this. Subscribed!
i have had chronic lev scap and upper trap pain have tried the monkey shrugs and i am seeing some improvement! can you advise how many reps and frequency would be best?thanks
this is very ingenious. The muscle pain comes from the fact that the muscle is always at the limit of sustaining total daily strength and thus always inflamed. We therefore make her more strong, so it can cross the daily total load endured and becomes a proper muscle capable of holding all the pieces together, and also alble to relaxed itself. Genius.
I experience upper back pain near my ribs my mum keeps suggesting my posture and how I have to fix it but it’s hard when I just get continuous back pains the only way it goes away is for me to lay on my stomach
I wonder if there is anyone who fixed the chronic neck pain by doing all of this stuff from internet
Thank you! Very helpful! I was very surprised at how wonderfully this worked for me.:)
Can this also help for chronic pain, or is it more a short term solution for acute pain?
I‘m 17 and had upper back pain for the past 7-8 weeks after using bad form while performing the dumbbell reverse fly at the gym. I just did this whole program and feel so much better. Thank you sir
Very good back exercises.
I need those as I’ve fractured my back 3 years ago. Though my back doesn’t hurt now, I feel that those exercises are a huge benefit.
Thank you!
Everytime I do standing dumbbell shoulder flies it makes back neck really stiff, once i stop it then it goes away immediately, can any if these exercises help with that (the last exercise looks like shoulder flies, thats what makes my neck stiff though)? The neck stiffness doesnt happen to my friends when they do the flies.

Hi,
Could upper traps strenghtening improve thoracic outlet/cervicalgy issues (very stiff achy traps/neck with sometimes achy feelings and tingling in little finger)?
Thank you in advance for your thoughts
My back has hurt for a month, tried this last night and while stretching something clicked in my back, woke up this morning completely pain free, my back is a little bit stiff but nothing compared to how it was. Amazing. I’ve already recommended your videos to others! Thank you!
this is quite interesting. I haven’t seen it like this before. I have had chronic tight upper traps, tight neck and shoulders and muscle knots in my back under my shoulder blades. I’ve been to two physios over the last year and they both had me doing stretching, loosening knots on my back with a tennis ball rolling it on a wall and strenghtening my lower traps, because they told me the reason my upper traps were tight was because they were doing all the work and my lower traps needed to be strengthened. But here I am months later and my upper traps are still tight. Were my physios wrong? Is it my upper traps that need the strenghtening?
The music made me feel like I was watching a intro to a porn movie. Other than that good video and thanks for the upload no pun intended:)
I have a compression fracture in my spine. I’m looking for something to help strengthen the muscles around the area I injured. Hopefully this works
What if they are tight but not painful. My left shoulder is elevated because of my left trap.
Will this exercice help or should I foam roll?
Thank you the perfect video. I had long thoracic nerve palsy and a winged scapular. Great x
I have chronic pain in my shoulder blades and neck. Specifically getting tight spots here and there that’ll be so severe it’s hard to even talk to people. Will this help?
Sir I can’t even turn my head what weights are you talking about-
This is some f*cking sorcery! Excuse my french.
I’ve had neck and back pain on and off for year and never found an exercise that works so fast. I combined this with another exercise where you lean back in your chair with fingers laced behind your head.
Your exercises are great. With angel wings I can’t get my left arm into the right angle and extend to touch the wall. It will not rotate to touch the wall it feels stuck. What can I do to loosen something to increase my flexibility and mobility. Thanks Fiona
Thank you for sharing your technique with us, and helping relieve my upper back pain. God bless you!
Thank you, Adrienne. Just got back from a three four hour walk. Needed a quickie yoga session to unwind and release. As ever, I am grateful for you and your content, not just the yoga, but the calm and accepting atmosphere of your space. And also because of Benji. Sometimes Benji steals my attention!

The problem seems to be muscle and specific to compressing the right side on the downswing…help me please…Thx.
Thanks for this wonderful class Adriene, my upper back has been tight so blessings for the practice X
The area where my neck meets my shoulders has been tight for 2 days and I already feel looser for this practice. Namaste, Adriene!
Thank you Sir for all the videos.I felt lot of relief by doing the exercises.I have done only two or three exercises but only with those exercises I felt 80%relief.

Just want to say: Thank you so much!! I am sad: Yoga with Adriene. I am angry: Yoga with Adriene. I feel lonely: Yoga with Adriene. Back Pain: Yoga with Adriene. Absolutly in love: Yoga with Adriene.:-)!
I’ve started to regularly do these stretches after my run and today I really appreciated you saying things like “live in this moment” “give thanks to this time” because I had a rough day yesterday. It’s amazing how I’ve watched this a few times and the video can still effect me in different ways. Thank you♥️
It’s funny cuz I don’t know where I hurt my back
It all hurts
Sir excellent explanation
I will implement these findings in my clinical practice
Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.
This is my first video for me to see on your channel, and this was almost instantly what I needed. You’ve got another subscriber.
I Look forward to trying these. At this point, I have nothing to lose.
OMG what the hell? Ive had this upper back pain thats been bothering me for days which got worse because of push ups and planks. It disappeared! I still have feel pain but like a ghost feeling. Thank you so much for this!!!
I can’t wait to try these. I broke my ankle and was put in a splint boot.
The sole thickness of the boot messed up my alignment. At first, it was just my lower back.
Today while sitting in a chair I got upper middle back pain out of nowhere.
Is it normal to feel it in my chest too? It felt like I was decompressing. Thank you!!
I get the point that you wanna strengthen the upper trap. I would like to know your idea about the effect of eccentric strengthening vs. concentric strengthening on reducing upper trap over-activation. Thank you very much! Love your work!
How frequently would you recommend to do these exercises? Can they be done daily until the traps are stronger? Thanks!
You are amazing. Your excercise are excellent for people like me who has 8 hour desk jobs.
Dear can u suggest some exercise to activate middle n lower trapz.
How to reduce to upper trapz dominance which causes “shoulder hiking” as patient tries to abduct or flex shoulder
I have what feel likes type traps, when it gets bad I get headaches, dizziness, and sometimes pain around the back of the ear.
Does this sound like weakness or tightness, I find it very difficult to tell
Thanks

That was fantastic. Thank you, Michelle. #ILoveMichelleKenway
