Love your stuff, but I really wish there were a “skip peewhoop” button.
I only ever eat multi-grain loaf and multi-grain sour dough and on the odd occasion I eat white bread I don’t like it, and most of the others I already do like the pasta and rice it truly makes a difference:)
hey can u please make a video on veg diet plan for hostel students
What is that first sentence in the video description? Why Ted?
“We can’t wait until society catches up to the science again, because it’s a matter of life and death.” This, and all of your speech and the reference to the Cigarettes promotion campaign, applies so well to Climate Change.
It’s a matter of life and death. Listen to the science. Corporations are paying millions to manufacture skepticism and denial.
Listen, listen, listen.
Can you do a video about low fat foods? Nutritionist push these foods on folks especially with coronary artery disease.
A very good topic to learn about. Thank you doc.
You look tired. Take care.
500 calories/day extra does not add up to 1lb of weight in 7 days. smh It is apparent you have no nutritional education. BMI matters in this equation.
WTF is this “NOTE FROM TED: Please do not look to this talk for medical advice. The speaker makes strong assertions about a specific diet that lack sufficient scientific evidence for general prescription.” I think TED needs to look into who’s uploading these videos.
As someone who’s naturally slim, I’ve never been too focussed on calories or worried about weight gain. I generally eat lots of whole foods as I was brought up on a healthy diet and I’m now vegan so eat a lot of veg and pulses, grains etc. Since lockdown I’ve actually put on a few pounds and was regularly turning to crisps and chocolate to snack on. I wasn’t eating too many but without me working I haven’t been as active and I actually put on 5llbs I’ve cut out my snacking on unhealthy foods and I’m trying to be a little more active. Whilst I am craving some of my snack foods I’ve actually found I can go for longer in between meals without snacking. I think I was just used to reaching for food when I was bored. Now I’m reaching for fruit instead, which is good as I didn’t eat too much fruit before. Watching calories is strange, but as I’m getting older I want to get a hold on being careful about my diet and exercise as I don’t want it to get out of hand and be in a bad place, before I realise I should be better. The hardest thing is shifting the tiny bit of belly wobble I have, I know my hormones are starting to fight against me so it’s going to be an uphill battle I’m not a natural when it comes to exercise, but I’m trying ✊✌
The highly processed food didn’t make them gain weight, overeating did. Not that I think processed food is good for you, but if you eat less calories from processed food it’s not gonna make you fat. Might make you unhealthy and not get enough nutrients but not fat.
What a ridiculous note from TED at the beginning of this video.
Wait…is this really the study you are referencing for why people shouldn’t eat processed foods? Sure, there are a lot of BS scientific studies that make headlines and people would do well to ignore them but even I am familiar with some of the research that’s being done on the direct impact of a natural foods diet on the gut biome, and the impact that this has on our overall health and well-being. There’s definitely a lot more to it than just “well if you eat processed foods, you’ll eat more, therefore it’s unhealthy”.
Also, the sample size of the study you are referencing seems way to small for it to be reliable. I have enjoyed your videos, but the way you fail to acknowledge the complexity of this topic really makes this video seem like misinformation. If you are going to make a video about eating healthy foods and put it in the category of “Education”, you really have to do better than this.
I believe we overeat when eating process foods because our body isn’t getting the proper nutrients therefore it’s still sending the signals to the brain that it’s hungry.
So, will this result help us develop drugs that can better correct the health damages caused by overeating processed foods?
Misfits market will deliver more than ten pounds of fresh organic fruits and vegetables to your home for $22. That’s about how much a trip to McDonald’s costs. Healthy food can be cheap.
Dr Mike, I agreed with everything you said except the low socioeconomic status bit. Whole foods in season is definitely cheaper than the junk, highly processed foods. People of low socioeconomic status may be ignorant to nutrition, too lazy, or too busy to cook, but using “healthy food is more expensive” is not a valid excuse. Don’t give them another excuse to ignore their health.
So again, it is not the fault of the food itself, but the person who consume them. At the end, HFCS has the same content and type of sugars as Honey.
Dr Mike, preach it. It is insane that it is cheaper to buy completely nutritionally void, highly processed foods than something that’s a raw material straight from the ground. In-freaking-sane. Also, highly processed foods taste better until you break the sugar / processed food addiction, which took me just over 2 weeks in 2019. I’ve been on Plant Paradox Diet since March 28, 2019, lost 40 pounds, reduced swelling that went from ankles to knees, got rid of brain fog, more energy, better skin, etc. And, now, whole foods taste much better than anything processed. No cravings for the foods I used to over-eat (peanuts, cashews, candy bars, potatoes, cereal, chips, etc). I stay fuller longer, because I eat fewer carbs and more fat and protein, and I’m not stressing my body into trying to stop me from poisoning myself with foods I can’t process.
They were full from the healthy food because of fiber not protien.
Bro I like your vids but this one ehh. I thought you would give real things about processed foods but it all comes down to overeating lmao come on now
Food really IS medicine healthy foods have medicinal properties! So important to aim for (and it’s okay to not always do so!) organic, GMO-free and clean foods. when you eat conventionally grown foods, you’re also ingesting toxins (including pesticides) added to them in the production process, or from environmental pollution. Many of these toxins cause an invader-fighting response from your white blood cells, which contributes to inflammation! Also, given that your gut microbiome impacts everything from your immune system to your skin to your brain function to your digestion, and even your mood and mental health, it’s so important to eat foods that are beneficial for it.
If I’m not allowed to have emulsifiers, does that mean no mustard, mayo, salad dressings or chocolate?
I want to start a plaint based diet. Eating fish a week is it okay
There is actually no difference between white and normal brown bread, when it’s not whole wheat. Brown bread is literally just white bread with food colouring to make it look darker, so people think it’s healthier. It’s only healthier, if you buy something with whole grains in it.
You can even try it out at home. Spelt is always talked about being the healthy cousin of wheat so the bread should be darker, we think. I baked a spelt bread (not whole grain) once and it was as white as any old white wheat bread.
So, just because some bread is darker than the other, doesn’t mean it’s healthier.
beginning of video: “and has proved, with a causal relationship, that eating a diet rich in high processed foods causes weight gain, and it’s for a reason you may not even suspect”
middle of video: “what this study wasn’t designed for was to find out why… but i do have some theories for you”
i feel like something is off here… how are theories proof of a causal relationship? and if the cause is “one group happened to eat more and we don’t KNOW why” i feel like the study could have been constructed more tightly. i wonder if the paper actually explains this better and something got lost in his translation?
I think high fructose corn syrup has been proven to tell your brain you’re still hungry.
Lol ten people per arm and he calls it super high level research
I can confirm with my own opinion right now, that number two is definitely my problem with hungry jacks stunner meals.
Ive just started to take what i eat a little more seriously this week and i have noted a difference in how long i stay fuller when i eat better food
So you’re saying counting your calories would allow you to better control your weight….geeezh go figure
Dairy is unhealthy. It has lots of fats, kazein, wich is in milk and dairy prevents absorbsion of iron into the body. Not only that, human body can’t get calcium from dairy and that’s why it takes calcium from bones, hence osteroporosis in the parts of the world, where they consume most dairy and milk.
America has been high on mass production, it’s the essence of its economy. Try mass producing healthy salads vs. packaged foods…
Also, portions are enormous in the U.S. It’s strange to me as a European! But people think it’s a great deal.
I had no idea about his Grandmother’s story. How touching and how his work makes so much sense now. Love that guy.
In third world countries food is expensive, it’s mostly third grade
This proves that over-eating gains weight. Not that processed food makes you gain weight. And only 20 people for a TOTAL of 4 weeks? That’s one of the worst scientific studies I have seen.
I’ve made Carbonara with whole wheat pasta and coconut rice with brown rice. They taste equally good if you know how to work them
Is this guy for real?
You overeat because its less volume. The processed foods are more addictive because with less fibre the sugar goes into the bloodstream much faster, triggers a strong insulin response and endomorphins. Finally the bloodsugarlevels drop hard and fast, so you want the next fix.
There is a whole industry around making you addicted to junk food. Starting with children who get hooked on sweets because of the bodys reaction to sugar.
As of there had not been any study on this… Wtf
His ideas are no more than uneducated, blind guesses.
The problem began in the 50s with Eisenhower. He rushed out incomplete findings from a scientific study, falsely blamed the consumption of fat and cholesterol for heart disease, and inaccurately concluded that Americans needed to eat less protein and more carbs. The result was an epidemic of diabetes and obesity from which America has never recovered. ( youtu.be/pze_qC7w1jI )
Overfed and malnourished
Overfed and malnourished
Overfed and malnourished
there’s the problem
I’d say the same reason people eat fast food is the same reason they’re poor. Laziness. It’s the least resisting path to what they want.
Micha the piwoop gotta go your cool enough you don’t need it
Highly processed foods are not generally cheaper. Compare the price of a 10 pound bag of potatoes compared to the same weight of potato chips or even french fries. Unless you buy from Whole Foods which I never do, buying unprocessed food will save you money. The problem is people want convince over health. It is expensive to eat at junk food.
Dr. Paul Mason, a talk you won’t want to miss. https://youtu.be/4lJPjsuftmQ
I consider skim milk highly processed (apart from the fact it tastes disgusting and clearly is a contributor to insulin resistance and diabetes likely due to its unnatural protein/fat/sugar ratio).
If you really want to take the processed food out, go carnivore and cook your own meat and meals from scratch.
Yeah, you won’t be hearing that from establishment authorities and mainstream sources such as this video.
Highly processed foods are addicting. Studies show that sugar lights up the same receptors as cocaine, which is why so many people find it seriously difficult to stop drinking things like soda.
That video is about the Keto diet. It is a diet based off of eating a high fat/low carb diet. It was (obviously) found to be bad for the heart.
I enjoy how you and Claudia are so mellow you don’t yell at us when we’re exercising your you just talk to us for everything and just so encouraging I just love it!
Spelt pasta all the way. Best of both worlds taste wise and less gluten. More easily digested and has all the texture.
NOTE FROM TED: Please do not look to this talk for medical advice. The speaker makes strong assertions about a specific diet that lack sufficient scientific evidence for general prescription.
What a joke . Have TED curators ever heard of PubMed? Or maybe about the thousands, if not millions, of anecdotal evidence on people reversing their chronic diseases (including my dad) and living healthy, medication-free, because of a plant-based diet? Probably not.
That burger “experiment” Dr. Mike mentions isn’t entirely accurate. The burger is so thin that the moisture evaporates off the patty before it can rot, it basically becomes jerky. The home made patty they made was much thicker. If you make an organic patty of the same thickness under the right conditions it will dry out and never rot either.
The main point about preservatives is true in general though.
So what can I eat on the the go that’d ones not have corn wheat or soy, other than fruits and veggies of course………?
Hell yeah
I’m taking more protein but not enough cause i worry for my kidney (my grandpa had no working kidney and died of it)
Drinking more water when i take protein to wash it down my kidney
Never worried with calcium (i love cheese and take milk with everything chocolate taste and cereal)
Fiber (i don’t know if you can eat to much but i need to check cause i take a lot)
Sugar is always over 100
I don’t eat as much calories as i should to keep mu weight since a couple of week and lost weight
I start eating more fruit and vegetable and look at my vitamins
I will eat more fish to make sure my thyroid works fine
I have no allergies and even if the food i eat now is not as good as the one i use to, i never really enjoyed eating or sleeping.
It’s like taking care of myself to have the energy of doing something else.
Eating is not a hobby it’s a need
I also take iron cause i know it shields the stomach from the acid and i take ritalin.
Ritalin burn and give little nosea, also help me eat less but i make sure what i eat is good for the reason i don’t eat a lot.
I eat three to four times a day
Morning, dining, in the evening and an hour or two before bed.
I sleep well with something in my tomi.
Don’t know why eating before bed is bad
Which wheat is bad for the body? Because on the Hasfit diet plan some of the meals recommended to have wheat bread. Is wheat bread OK to eat?
Isn’t the sample size way to small to have any significance?
I eat higly processed food and do my blood test monthly. By higly processed I mean 300 to 600 grams (0.66 to 1.2 pounds) of white sugar with water and wheat bran, 3 to 6 scoops of protein with wheat bran and coconut flakes (1 ounce of each) and 1 can of tuna or sardines each day plus table salt and vitamins from pills. I do this for about 2 years In July 2020. I have no weight gain issues.
I agree with doc on the following:
1. Protein is key with the protein shake plus tuna or sardines are key to me not feeling hungry. If dont have my proteins I tend to over eat carbs and fat (usually cheese if dont have the protein shake)
2. Calories counting works (I also do gym training once every other day and I have periods with pauses that is way I eat 300 to 600 grams depending on activity levels that day)
3. Taste is really really important but what I eat is not that tasty. Food that tastes good is usually sugar plus fat 1 to 2 or 1 to 1 ratios.
4. The level of mental tiredness is key to NOT over eat. If you couple ppl with low income tend to physically work more and get tired and buy cheaper food that are tasty and low in protein this is mostly why ppl overeat.
5. Malnourishment is related with low vitamins and minerals which highly processed food lack big time. This day in age vitamins and minerals supplements are a must for all. Be careful on the dosage though, I have an excel where I calculated for my own height, weight, physical activity and source + amount in each. There are no reading made supplements perfect for everyone, we are all different and unique after all.
Well done on the video and thanks for sharing.
Corn syrup is very fattening. They feed corn products to livestock to fatten them up! Steers eating a natural grass fed diet simply won’t get fat, so they ‘finish’ them for a few months stuck in a feedlot eating hay mixed with corn and sometimes adding wheat.
As a nutritional science major, I totally agree with you coach!
What about Tofu? It is bean curd, but it’s a good protein for vegetarians
20 participants in each group is statistically unreliable. This study just continues the trend of poor science in the nutrition field.
Future Registered dietitian here and I loved this video Dr.mike
extra virgin olive oil’s nutrients burns away when used in cooking.
Seriously bad video. This is the reason everyone is obese. These aren’t lies. But it’s misleading. Paleo + prolonged fasting every now and then is the answer. Check out snake diet.
I’m confused… what do you mean when you say that in poor areas there is malnutrition due to obesity?
This is great Jamie! Great to see celebrity chefs showing the public that carbs is not evil. And that there are healthier swap outs BUT we can choose depending on the dishes we cook. You’re the best!
Dr. Mike, I’m sad you repeated the “fast foods don’t rot” myth. It isn’t because a McDonald’s burger contains special preservatives, it’s because of the low moisture content and speed the burger dries out. You could replicate the results by making your own burger from scratch (like grind your steak to make ground beef, and other from scratch methods for other ingredients). If you make the burger in the same way so that it dries out at a similar rate then it will sit “preserved” just as long. It has nothing to do with what is “in” a fast food burger.
Sorry your Intentions were good, but you got more wrong than right. AND you’re propagating the false idea that its about calorie restriction., what sugar corporation pays you to lie?
Processed food lacks fiber, and you need fiber to: sweep out excess cholesterol (that’s one way oatmeal lowers cholesterol levels), keep you full longer which prevents over eating, feed your gut bacteria. Fiber is not found in processed foods or protein.
Sorry folks, but health comes from fiber, weight loss comes from fiber, beating diabetes comes from eating fiber rich foods, fiber helps prevent colon cancer… it’s almost like there’s a theme here.
Edit: sad to see you promote meat based protein. Meat/dairy/eggs are the best way to get diabetes. Google it
Yes, a keto diet = weight loss, but you have to understand it’s temporary unless you change your eating habits 100%. Most people can’t do strict keto forever (it’s unhealthy, expensive and boring ), and it “seems” to reverse diabetes, but it’s actually masking it.
Sorry ♀️
It would be a shame if you did not build muscle when other people do it easily with Ready Set Ripped (check it out on Google).
Yeah, Phytonutriments very important to prevent cancer
https://youtu.be/np3zuvDLzGY
There actually finding that organic Butter is actually really good for our bodies and can actually help us loose weight. Just don’t eat too much of it just like olive oil.
Doctor has such a muscular and healthy body building. She looks bright and light in her energy too
I knew a womem that ate right all her life amd she died of cancer. Its not for everyone! Because everyone is different.
What about Dr. John McDougall’s vegan starch diet? Not only does it help lose weight, but you can also reverse diabetes, heart disease and cancer on it.
Any one tested out the Custokebon Secrets (just google search it)? We have noticed many awesome things about this popular weight loss system.
Thanks & Thinking….I still Younger not alot of Experience of lifestyle….
What is Custokebon Secrets and how does it work? I hear a lot of people burn their fat with this popular lose weight method.
Anyone tried the Custokebon Secrets? I’ve heard many incredible things about it and my cousin lost lots of weight with Custokebon Secrets (look on google search engine).
What is Custokebon Secrets? We’ve heard numerous awesome things about this popular weight loss method.
When you think about it.. it’s almost like you have to cut everything out of your diet (all the things you used to enjoy). I came here to get more info about how to reduce and/or prevent BC because I want to be a big help and support for my gf who has it. It kinda sucks we’ll have to cut out most things we like but I’ll gladly make the lifestyle switch with her. Nothing bad can come from growth and educating oneself on a better way of living.
Its still surprise me, just how a lot of people do not know about Custokebon Secrets, despite the fact that lots of people get great result with it. Thanks to my cooworker who told me about Custokebon Secrets, I’ve lost plenty of weight by using it without starving myself.
This was great! All sensible ideas, though perhaps the most sensible move was having the suggestion that butter can be replaced at the end. I was on board right up until then. Sacrilege.
Great presentation as usual, very eye opening! I liked the comparison with the tobacco industry and smoking, the same is happening now with the “food” industries and nutrition! Thanks to doctors like you, Dr. Joel Fuhrman, Dr. Neal Barnard, Dr. Brooke Goldner, and many others, people are starting to wake up to the truth! As a future physician myself, I appreciate your work!
I don’t think he’s saying to eliminate it altogether but that these foods should really make up a very small part of our diet as opposed to being the main ingredient which it is for most people
Soy proteins for vegan/vegetarian mock meats? Has been a lie for our protein consumption health? Wats the alternatives for daily protein tasty fast choices?
Sussan Hope
Love your exercises & even shared it to my family & friends!!!
Fucking soy is in EVERYTHING even baby formula everyday bread crisps even chocolate bars its disgusting that they do that….And even more so that they rarely provide alternatives…Soy ruins men!!!
Dear coach.. give some advise on Indian food to consume as all the food you suggest most of then are not easily available in rural areas. Your meal plan thinking my constraints
I was supper skeptical about this channel but dude hit the nail right on the head with this video
Coach. Great talk.Could you tell me what your morning routine is. I’m out of shape and need advice on the best morning exercise to set me up for the day Thanks a bunch
Thanks for this video, loved the tips, I personally swapped to brown bread for about a year ago and it’s amazing, could you please do another video about tips for making healthy desserts, or what to swap sugar with.thanks.
Thank you so much for this video. It is very informative and I learned a lot from it. I certainly will avoid the corn and soy products— the wheat will be very hard but I will definitely cut back immensely. I just love the great advice you give us. Thank you again!
I was too confident that my metabolism rate is high (I’m Asian) so I just consumed every meal I can.
I gained a layer of fat and I look awkward.
The regret rate is high.
They be trying to make fun of vegans and make them seem foolish or looking bad etc. Now they came up with the popular keto and carnivore. I even fell in the bandwagon. I gained weight and inflammation. I then realized it’s all about money. Watch cowspiracy documentary it makes even more sense today in 2019/2020! The animal products people are losing money! They’ll do anything to stop vegan movement.
or, you just don’t eat bread or pasta or rice because it’s basically nutritionally devout of really anything your body needs????????? You can get fibre from so many other better foods
This is the best video on why our population is so unhealthy. Genetically modified food and the companies that push them on the public (do you hear that Monsanto??????) Thank you for making this video Coach.
How do I parcipitate in such a study, and how much would it cost??
This is why I keep my diet primarily plant base and as unprocessed as possible.
i think i might have a problem since ever since i got into kindergarten i stopped liking fruit, i just didn’t wanna eat it anymore, some vegetables too. i just… developed a disgust to them??? for so long i had no idea why, i don’t dislike the taste, i like candy in fruit falvors but actual fruit? gross. i know that’s bad and i wanna change that but hjdfgbnfbh whY DID I START HATING FRUIT
Hey Mike, I love your channel and think you have an awesome platform and personality. However as a Registered Dietitian, I have to say a number of the assumptions you made about nutrition & general biochemistry were factually incorrect. I whole-heartedly agree that processed foods are not healthy and lead to overeating and subsequent weight gain. But the bacteria in our GI tracts do not love processed foods, they love fiber. While critical, protein is not the most satiating macronutrient, in fact it’s fat and fiber that contribute to satiety. Just wanted to say I appreciate your hustle here, but sometimes we as Dietitians feel MD’s might be stepping on our toes a bit. We are the ones with 8 years of higher education on this specific science, and ya’ll are the incredible humans behind medicine and the treatment for every disease process under the sun. I’d love to see you do more content within your lane.
Today quinoa is the most recommended in diet tomorrow will be condemned that’s how’s it’s,been, same like wheat really you don’t know what to eat anymore it’s really confusing enjoy what you eat and live a healthy lifestyle life’s short.
Sir Kozak, In India wheat is essential part of food. Every person in India fills his stomach from wheat. Sir I am an Indian and want to ask that is there any other substitute to wheat?
Thank You for this beneficial information. I enjoy watching your every video.
Wish you your wife and your daughter happy and healthy life
I agree with what it’s been said here and the thing is….they can put anything on the front of the bag (those marketers) but it’s WAY more important to read the ingredients on the back!!!:-D It’s best to make your own “chips” by baking the vegetables in your oven….best yet, eat as much as possible raw veggies 😉
Hey coach, thanks for the video…..love what your doing for everybody, trying to help people help themselves. keep it up, happy thanksgiving!!!!!
Good deal. Nice, clear delivery. I believe potatoes are right up there in this category of TOO MUCH CONSUMPTION. We feed our cattle and pigs with corn and look how BIG cows get! That isn’t because of the GRASS they eat………. It’s the CORN! And they are vegetarians so………. can’t blame the fats they consume from hunting and catching other animals! So……… gotta be the corn!
Also, I knew the moment they put soy in with certain “soft serve” ice creams because, I couldn’t keep it down! Suddenly my ice cream treat became GROSS! And calling those chips “Veggie Chips”. Um no, potatoes are NOT a vegetable but a starch. So naming a product after a leafy green and then having NOTHING from that food group involved in it’s creation is really quite wrong in my books so yeah, definitely read labels.
Only problem is……. when you’re broke, you have to purchase things that will last or you will not have enough to make it until payday. Unfortunately, that means more preservatives and corn products.:-\ It’s a battle that’s hard to win but we must never give up!
Thank you
Heya, The best success that I have ever had was with Zoes bikini plan (i found it on google) Without a doubt the most helpful diet that I have ever tried.
Talks in the most annoying way possible. He constantly speeds up and down, several times in one sentence. How can anyone understand what he’s trying to say?
Most of the days and weeks throughout the month the only “soy” and/or “wheat” containing food that I may eat is a peanut butter & jelly sandwich for either breakfast or lunch, very occasionally I might have corn with other vegetables. Thank you for the advice!
Also, palm oil. Search it up, and see what it does to your body, your world, and orangutans, and see how much it fuels our corrupt way of living.

Thanks for that reminder Coach. I know that at one time both my wife and I quit taking that Soy compound Braggs Liquid Aminos. They list their ingredients: Vegetable protein from Soybeans and Purified Water. I have a small bottle in front of me.
I am a vegan so soy is a very big part of my diet, is this a problem?
Look at Jamie using the skills from his nutrition course! I’m proud cos I also want to study nutrition at university.
Love your videos they have helped me so much!! The only negative is the audio is a little off. But other than that perfect vids man!
Best foods to avoid are the one,s that taste the nicest! which means they are laden with salt/sugar & fat………
I’ve been eating chips lately…I think something is psychologically wrong with me lol
Is it me, or do some of these people who are talking about a plant based diet talk like every word is part of the same sentence? They talk so fast, so machine-gun blurry, running one word into another, that I cannot even understand what they are saying. I am not hard of hearing, either. I am so sorry that I am missing most of what this man is saying, because he is either so caught up in himself and making his presentation absolutely stunning to capture his audience, or this is just the way he talks to his patients all the time, which is unimaginable. Good public speakers learn to enunciate their words, talk at a normal pace for everyone, and use inflections appropriately to emphasize what they are saying. They pause between ideas. This jumble of stuff makes me so mad, because too many people are losing much of what he is saying. Good communication keeps the listener in mind, which he obviously is not. Maybe he’s appealing to a younger crowd who likes speech at the speed of light. I don’t know. I’m just sorry I had to stop listening after a couple of minutes.
His videos are titled about food and then he always ends up talking about smoking.

Awesome tips! But the hardest thing for me is substituting sugar, since the only affordable one in my country is honey, but when baking it can change the texture of the final dish:/
Slim Jims. Beef sticks. You’d think that. First ingredient is soy. It’s bean curd with some beef powder for flavor. Barf.
Top 5 healthy tips. TOP 5!! and this guy’s talking about bread and pasta? Clueless.
“I don’t mind dying. I just don’t want it to be my own fault”. Wow. What a great statement!

Is soy milk bad? I drink “Silk” soy milk no artificial, no dairy, gluten, lactose or cholesterol. INGREDIENTS: Soymilk (Filtered Water, Soy Flour), Cane Sugar, Sea Salt, Carrageenan, Natural Flavor, Reb A (Stevia Leaf Sweetener).
VITAMINS & MINERALS: Calcium Carbonate, Vitamin A Palmitate, Vitamin D2, Riboflavin (B2), Vitamin B12.
Thanks for the great teaching and sharing in getting a better diet. Thank you so much for your time in recording this video. The best in life coach.
Margarine has actually been shown to increase breast cancer but she says stay away from the animal fats.
The concept is so simple but I love how dr Greger explains it
I am amazed at how many overweight people refuse to go on the ketogenic diet as a way of life.
I lost 75 pounds and 12 inches off my waist with only 6 months of 1-hour casual daily walks while on keto; cured my type 2 diabetes and reversed my fatty liver disease.

Hi Coach, I was wondering, what other foods can I eat on the go as a snack when I don’t have too much time to either cook or enough money to buy organic food. fruits and veggies not included 😉
So whole foods are the way to go, but what can I pack for lunch or on the go when I can’t cook any whole foods? Other than fruits and veggies, what can I eat on the go!?
Aw man just when I thought I had my diet down pack lol but it’s cool cause I do you guys 30 day abs challenge & 30 day to a better body workout:)
I hear about the wheat and we use whole wheat flour and pasta because I thought it was good for you. Also we eat regular corn when we steam our veggies. I have to cut back on its consumption. What are some good alternatives?
There is no “maybe”. It is sugar whats makes you crave for certain foods and is causing addiction.
It sucks because wheat is so highly recommended that people would be confused if they knew how bad it actually is. It’s also in so many foods and snacks. Do you think that a gluten free diet would make it easier to avoid soy, wheat and corn?
Don’t replace butter with olive oil in desserts… It’s going to taste like olive oil.
Whole tomato
Cheese
Mayonnaise
Salt
Vinegar
Pepper
Chop and mix togeather makes a great snack enjoy
I live in North America;; Canada better than US depending where you live but what Jaimie brandished over across the pond is artisanal quality. The Wonderbread stuff that is still ubiquitous even with whole grains sprinkled throughout served as pellets my sister and I threw at each other for fun. Sourdough has the advantage of fermentation, so if you buy your bread in north America and on a budget.. seriously.
Hi Jamie Happy Christmas & a happy New Year have a merry time with the kids xxx
Brown rice has so much arsenic, you’re better off just eating white rice.
Video played via Cactus1967(WebTV)VEVOtouch! American Country Music Show by TVSALOON.COM, Jamie! Great…

For some dishes I replace rice with rye try it, just cook cracked rye like rice.
NOTE FROM TED: This has been compelled on TED Talks by loads of legal actions by pharmaceutical companies and other nefarious capitalist organisations who make money at the expense of people’s lives
So it sound like it might not be a nutritional problem as a palatability problem. Not that we need to make whole foods taste better, but that we need to make processed foods taste worse.
Food has always been medicine…love this site! I never pay attention to mainstream medicine I know better…thanks for putting this wonderfully valuable information to those who really care about their health..keep up the great work!!!
Yet…Jamie, you know and I know that you NEVER cook with extra virgin olive oil. You should use sunflower or olive oil, and SEASON with extra virgin.
Same way that you should never cook with sesame oil. Come on man.
Brown rice is doper in every sense, sorry, it is just much harder to keep
I absolutely love brown pasta. It’s so tasty Since my boyfriend introduced me to it, I’ve been literally craving brown pasta. Could eat it every day. ❤
I am eating white rice because it tastes amazing. Don’t care about nutrition. Don’t take white rice away from the Asian. They bite.
I love your recipes and shows but I dropped all grains and feel much better from it. I look forward to more meat and veg!
Hello Jamie, or anyone,
You know, with white basmati or jasmin rice, you need to rince it under cold water to remove the excess starch and dust… is it the same with brown rices?
My Top 5 Healthy tips:
1. Eat more organic leafy greens
2. Eat less bread, pasta, and starchy carbs
3. Do not drink soda or fruit drinks with real or fake sugar
4. Drink raw smoothies and juices
5. Exercise in short, intense workouts
“Iron, Zink and Copper”, you know you could just eat a tv. You would for sure get that iron, zink and copper:)
Too bad I’m lactose intolerant. Yogurt messes up my stomach. The non dairy stuff messes up my stomach with the thickeners and gums, etc.
Take the rice, stay away from the other 4 foods. Thank me later.
It’s all about making gradual little changes and swapouts that you can sustain!
Although don’t exaggerate the benefits of dairy. For taste? -Not gonna argue. But for health? The food and gym industry are all on about yoghurt, quark, cottage cheese and whey for protein and calcium… Heavily overrated when there’s plenty of vegan options available without the downsides, almond, oats, hemp, pea, soy etc.
Are you talking about additives to products and not just the corn, soy and wheat on their own? It has me a little confused on what is okay to eat now.
Wholewheat is great, and I personally love a Honey Soaked Bloomer, but eating Rye & Spelt bread will give you SO MUCH more nutrition. I make it myself with this recipe: https://www.thesimplelifeblog.net/single-post/2017/11/11/Making-the-switch-to-Rye-and-Spelt-flours
p.s. I love the tip of using extra-virgin olive oil instead of butter. I’ve started doing this in baked goods after reading Jamie’s 5 Ingredients Quick & Easy Food.
Best tips to make balaced nutrition, I do love Herbalife
U said olive oil good, but i when i use i feel burning in my neck.
Great video. I use a real mixture in my cooking depending on what recipe I am creating. I believe in a balanced diet and a bit of exercise does the trick pretty well to keep me healthy. I was waiting for the brown mayo but I was surprised with the yoghurt swap… nice!
I don’t buy store bought Mayo. I always make my own in a food processor, it takes less then 5mins in a food proccesor.
Amazing this never gets out into the main stream media…..should be the headlines daily.
Dear TED: If there is something this Man does is,
Study Evidence
And encourage people to make an informed decision (based on Evidence)
on what they choose to eat. I’m guessing you like meat and dairy and there is nothing wrong in choosing. I just find it so odd that as open minded as you seem to be, you’re undermining a Man that speaks truth, based on studies and is even willing to correct himself if newer evidence is presented. Either way, I thank you because thanks to a TED talk, I found Dr. Greger
I can’t stand wheat bread, it’s like exercise, white bread till the day I die. Now wheat or brown pasta I’m fine with, I have no problem choosing it over the white, even with the longer cooking time, although my gut sometimes has a major disagreement with it!!
Just for everybody info. Brown bread or pasta will not help you lose weight as it doesn’t contain any less calories, in most cases they have more calories per serving. However, there is no doubt it is healthier, just make sure you don’t go eating a loaf of brown bread thinking its the same as two slices of white.
Jamie’s test kitchen is nicer than everyone’s normal kitchen. Loved the tips though, thanks bud!
Read those labels and keep track of your caloric intake. I’ve lost 100 lbs. since last June. I’ve seen more ads for single women in my area, so I must be doing something right lol
There is this super delicious mix I buy with red rice, brown rice, red quinoa, white quinoa, green lenses, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds and buckwheat. Whenever I can, I use that
How can be sure that pasta is not only colored? To me it looks like they only added brown color.
So basically… calories in calories out and lots of proteins.
The rice… @jamieoliver try to change the white for wild red rice and you will never want your white one again with any dish. The taste of that with meat or with nuts….pffff 1 million times better.
I find it mind puzzling that Jamie who appears and pretend to be an expert in health food. That he promote eating and consuming animals and animal products.
I also heard eating nuts is really healthy. I only eat almonds thoo.
Thank you Jamie for you fantastic Food and best regards from Poland
mass, industrial manufactured olive oil is crap these days. Stay away.
My theory towards the weight gain, is that high processed foods are very inflammatory. Therefore your body doesn’t feel full after consuming them, which causes you to eat more than you actually need.
Bread. Meat. Cheese anything dairy. Makes people sick. No more no less!!
I didn’t know that sour cream is healthier than mayonnaise, wow.
Just wondering..where’s Kerryann? I miss her videos:(
“The speaker makes strong assertions about a specific diet that lack sufficient scientific evidence for general prescription.”
ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!? Dr. Greg has reviwed hundreds of studies supporting plant based diets and yet, you say it “lacks sufficient scientific evidence for general prescription”? Where is the evidence about the safeness of the standart omnivorous diet? Tell me one single study or case study! I’m down to the fact that ignorance will always prevail… But simply do not misinform people! GREAT JOD Dr. GREGER!:D
i think people gain weight on processed foods because their bodies are still looking for vitamins and minerals (nutrients). At least that’s the way i feel with an occasional processed meal.
The Samoan islands have become one of the most obese country in the world thanks to import/export of oils, sugar, and other cheap processed foods.
Walking corpse. He does not even know what he talks about. Pure brainwashing.
Cutting out soy, corn, and wheat was one of the best decisions I ever made. So many of my problems with my stomach disappeared as a result. It’s not like my diet is perfect…but I’ve drastically cut down on the wheat I eat and find other things to eat like quinoa.
U r the greatest on youtube…. Can u do knees workouts…it hurts me
Keep it up jamie! You’re really awesome! Appreciate the tips
I have another theory. Since processed food is, well processed, that means part of the food is already partially broken down. Whole foods are not broken down and so your body must break down every molecule in order for the body to absorb the nutrients. Meaning you will feel full longer because it’s taking the body longer to process, reducing over eating.
Swap ‘out’? Why are you talking like an American teenager, the term is swap, the meaning is in the word.
Thanks, very informative. I think it’s wrong to make our products are one thing when they’re not, like with the sweet potato chips. My friends son has coeliacs so has to have a gluten free diet. The amount of foods he can’t have that don’t seem to have anything to do with wheat is ridiculous. Such as crisps, often gluten not in the crisps but the flavouring, or frozen potatoes as they have a coating that has gluten. People could be avoiding things such as wheat because of wanting to lose weight and eating lots of it without even knowing.
I treated my moms stage 2 great cancer with food, no surgery no chemo noe medication just food. Thank GOD. Healing is possible. I started my channel to explain others who need this help.. how food can save their lives.
One point that untrue fatty fish and grass fed meats are NOT cancer inducers
Can’t stand brown bread or brown pasta….nothing tastes more like cardboard that than that crap….well unless you buy Maccas and I don’t buy that either
I just love your channel and your workouts, thank you!! I have learned a lot about grains in particular, discovering that the reason they seem to be bad for us is because we don’t prepare them properly by soaking them to break down the anti nutrients. I believe this is why there is so much intolerance of grain in America. PS I’m gonna buy a shirt!!
What am I missing here? At 1:33 you said they controlled from calories, and then no less than a minute later at 2:20 you said they ate more. How is this not a contradiction?
this man is chaos…. and quite hard to listen to…. Everything he says goes a human appropriate diet, christ veggies as you know them didn’t exist in the form they do until the last 100-50 years depending… soy is not tested its new…. and he is suggesting whole plant foods meaning nothing processed, though without enrichment and supplementation you will get sick
What do you think of lost tons of weight using Custokebon Secrets? I notice a lot of people keep on speaking about Custokebon Secrets.
I would do anything for anybody, any Herbalist that could reverse my physical weakness/paralysis from my stroke at only 18 years old… With electric food & dieting. Anybody who knows can like & reply here!
Could someone send this collection of vegan doctors on Ted to Joe Rogan
I’m allergic to Dairy..but drink soy protein drinks..is that deterring my weight loss?
Dr. Greger reminds me of Lester from GTA V. he is a cool guy tough.
The best is swapping mayo for greek yogurt and it s fantastic with garlic and thyme and any flavoring
He loocks like a skeleton.. Almost anorexic hope he surrvive
Where did ted got the idea that Researcher, scientist and doctor Michael Greger has no scientific foundation? He has a big researchers scientist organization working for us! It really upset me how ted belittle from the beginning Dr Michael Greger.
Let your food be your medicine and medicine be your food -Hippocrates
Nutrition is the new medicine.the best medicine is in our cupboards folks
Well said Doc.
PLANTbased diet is the food and it’s the medicine.
It’s not more expensive! I buy primarily real foods and can spend $100 for 2 weeks per person. I of course, cook it myself.
Paleo doctors and smoking. Very funny, but at least it lets us know, how naive, some medical doctors could be.
I’m going to be sleeping well, regardless of Dr. Greger. But he is on my top ten list, for plant-based doctors.
Garlic is seriously the best thing ever!!! I eat an entire thingy of garlic (clove? Or the cloves are pieces??) anytime I have had any kind of infection I eat garlic for like days and it works better ans fast thst the antibiotics the doctors prescribed me my whole life!!! GARLIC WORKS MIRAXLES FOR REAL!!!
Thank you Coach. You are an inspiration and have the highest ethics. Not money at all costs.
I have routinely eaten nothing but raw carrots for 18 months straight and I have never felt more healthy nor orange in all my life.
It is actually very common for dietary studies to be kept in a metabolic lab for a month. smh
…
So..
Add an egg per meal..
And the protein element will help us from ever eating junk?
There are some mistakes in the Arabic translation. How can one fix it?
I am 1000% for holistic care and proper nutrition but this video ignores and simplifies the issue of nutrition to one thing that I am not sure is really proven let me finish because there are SO many other variables. Many of them I have listed below.
People who go vegan necessarily have more money because the ‘typical American diet’ is cheaper. People with more money have better access to healthier food and better healthcare. People with more money typically have less stress, more sleep, ACTUAL TIME to exercise, time to unwind/destress, and time to do research on their diet – unlike people who are working paycheck to paycheck and have to choose between starving their family or feeding their family (albeit unhealthily). Processed and premade and fast food are all also less time consuming for people who are disabled and can’t cook for themselves without way too much effort OR people who work multiple jobs and don’t have time to cook/don’t want to eat cold food all the time/maybe want to spend their extra time with their family and not in the store and kitchen.
If all you had to do to be healthy was to go vegan, then people would do it. It’s more complicated than that.
What are people’s incomes vs net income vs after expenses?
What about water intake? What about drinking calories vs eating?
How many refined foods/grains are these people having? That can affect your body and energy too.
Did the quality of their diet change? Portion size? Frequency of eating? Time of day that they were eating?
Did they change their sleeping habits? The frequency of exercise? The intensity of exercise? General movement?
What about stress levels? Hope (which 100% can change outcomes)? Meditation? Mental health?
What about their quality of sleep? Hours of sleep? Exposure to blue light?
What about family history? Were they healthy before and got sick and so they’re reverting?
What about body type? Some people have a harder time losing weight due to genetics, but having higher weight doesn’t necessarily mean that you’re unhealthy because of lean mass and bone density and the way that your body processes nutrients.
What about disability? What about eating disorders, anemia and nutritional deficiencies, food allergies, intolerances, sensitivities? Mobility issues including but not limited to chronic pain, chronic fatigue, chronic illness? Dexterity related issues?
What about alcohol intake? Smoking? Vaping? Abusing RX drugs? Using illicit drugs?
What about religious dietary restrictions? What about fasting?
Did they study people of varying ages? What about cultural and ethnic diversity? My cousin who is very much Scots-Irish/UK descendent went vegan in high school and got ridiculously sick: hair falling out, pale, anemic, and weaned back onto eating meat and got better. My friend who is Eastern European descent was raised vegan and is perfectly fine. Different bodies need different things.
And for some people, like myself, a vegan diet is not feasible or healthy. Whatsoever. Even if everything else before this was perfectly in order, it would not be healthy for me to be vegan.
Where do you get iron? If being vegan is so healthy, why do so many vegans have anemia?
What about sufficient sources of protein in smaller serving sizes? I am personally allergic to legumes (nuts and beans) and soy, and I’m sensitive to milk so I can only get sufficient protein through eating chicken. (I’m also allergic to red meat and seafood).
I have not checked the individual studies yet, so fair enough, and I’m aware that he has a larger website that may be better at addressing these issues, but alone? This video does a very, very poor job at addressing nutrition because it oversimplifies. As someone who cares soo much about nutrition, especially after finding out how many freaking food allergies I have, I was disappointed at his lack of specificity and nuance in his explanations of his sources, his lack of consideration for outliers, and his overreliance on the historical general and medical opinions on smoking that he didn’t sufficiently prove to be relevantly analogous to eating animal products.
I also found his sarcasm very offputting, especially for a persuasive speaker. I guess it’s a stylistic choice but I find that sarcasm, an ‘isn’t this obvious’ attitude and mockery are really bad for persuading people (even if he is exactly right). And personally? I don’t see people change when they are made fun of. I see them dig in their heels. But if he approached this topic with more earnestness or sensitivity, and also didn’t oversimplify, then I think he could’ve been very convincing.
Wow 2 years ago he didn’t look so bad yet. Compare this video to current state, it’s like he aged 15 years suddenly.
Could the fact that humans are apparently more likely to overeat processed foods also have something to do with the amount of undigestable parts in it? For example let’s compare an apple with apple juice. If you eat the whole apple, a not processed food, you take in a lot of fibre, which is not really digestable. If you drink the juice, you barely take in fiber. So that would mean that to take in the same amount of calories, you have to eat more apple, than you need to drink apple juice. The more you eat, the more you feel full. So if you primarily eat processed foods, you will have to eat more calories in order to feel full.
So dr. Mike what do you think about this theory? I am very curious about that.
Ted…your disclaimer is inappropriate…laughable. Please take it out of the description. Dr. Greger’s work IS about as science-base/backed as possible.
Too many people simply don’t want to change, get angry when it’s suggested and even go so far as to blame you & others for their poor health. I know someone who the night before a major operation was smoking *despite being told not to smoke at least two weeks before the op) whilst telling me they feared they would die on the operating table. They ended up in the ICU fighting for their life. Weeks later they were back to smoking and blaming the hospital for “nearly killing” them. The worst lie is the one people tell themselves. Only they can help themselves.
AGE 96, post end stage heart disease (cured), let that set in for a second…
Lowered my Triglycerides from 169 to 49 after going back to predominantly whole foods plant based
After watching this video 1 year ago I went overnight plant-based. Have not been sick since then! I am so happy Dr. Greger exists.
So he is using Uganda as an example of healthy eating where life expectancy is 59?
Did I read this right “NOTE FROM TED… The speaker makes strong assertions about a specific diet that lack sufficient scientific evidence for general prescription. ” Under what rock are the promoters living?
When he said swap mayo for yoghurt i was like nah it just doesn’t work for me believe me ive tried. Sour cream however, I MIGHT CONSIDER.
Helo Jamie,
I have seen your videos where you talk about the fermented flour. But, I have not heard it before. Could you explain me what kind of flour it is?
Contrary to what we’ve been taught, we don’t need 3 meals a day plus snacks. Especially heavy breakfasts like cereals made out of sugar, gluten and chemicals or the typical English breakfast. Its very unhealthy
Great presentation by a great presentator? You know what I mean, right? I have also checked out your web site doc and will be looking at it more in the future. Seems like plant based no smoking life style is the way to go to recover from bad choices. Thanks doc. Kev
My life totally and completely changed when I changed from a typical American diet to a Pesco Vegetarian diet. I am now changing to a 100% Vegan diet. On my Pesco Vegetarian diet, I ELIMINATED 3 medications…THREE. My weight and BMI is fantastic. I have chronic pain w/ortho and neuro causes, but, they are much better since I switched in 2013
As if I would take health tips from the person who supports the sugar tax. Causing companies to use artificial sweeteners instead of real sugar. No thank you
May God Bless this Guy for his early warning ^^
I hope you’re all doing well or will..
Take really care of your health..
My biggest question is are all these studies comparing a WHOLE FOOD plant based diet to a processed SAD diet? What about in comparison to a whole food paleo diet based on hunted/grass fed meats or home grown pasture raised eggs?
What a smart approach to: white pasta (rice) verses brown. Love it!
When Jamie speaks… Karin listens. How do you like that…:o)
The world is blind to the truth…dairy industry and meat industry working that PR machinery such that they cant see the light.
What if it is not about the meat but about the other factors like eating processed food, moving etc.
Dr Michael Greger is like The Lord of the Rings. One Ring to rule them all!!.. One set of nutritional guides to rule them all!! But he’s more like Gandalf!!!
Hey, which scientific study did you read for the information that was provided in this video? It would be greatly appreciated.
I’m convinced he’s some secret brother Jeff Goldblum hasn’t told us about
Watching this vids i feeled that i’m craving for chocolates my fav & Mike’s fav… SNICKERS
He he… Dr. Mike 2k19 Ⓜ

Watching while eating a meal made from canned corned beef. Hmm…
I’d like to hear more diet tips from this frail, sick man.
Is he in remission?
From London Brixton, doctor Greger, I stop taking pills and gained health. Saving lives. Much love doctor
I do not want be healthy u old man I want to eat cans all day
This is about the glycogen based diet. The ketone based diet has eliminated these effects
John Wayne died from radiation caused cancer because of being exposed to atomic blasts while filming near the test site
Keto incorporates veggies into a diet that has been proven to eliminate diabetes risk
really well presented. lots of information in a very pleasant way. thank you
>NOTE FROM TED: Please do not look to this talk for medical advice. The speaker makes strong assertions about a specific diet that lack sufficient scientific evidence for general prescription.
>Dr Greger presents a study after a study after a study…
First time seeing a note like that on a talk about health and lifestyle and it’s under a video of the only person I’ve seen presenting not meaningless charts, but lots of abstracts from scientific papers.
Corporate greed ahead of societal health. Some things just don’t change.

Global Burden of disease study shows, diet is most important factor.
With example of cigarette advertisements, which creates artificial demands. He is making us aware, to watch every advertisements with vigilant eyes.
16:14 physicians who themselves smokes oppose stopping cigarette advertisements.
So does eating the same amount of calories of processed food vs hole foods the same??? This is not so… yess processed food have more colories and are adictive, but they are also not good for your health even if you control de calorie intake…
This study shows that people eat more food when it tastes better… this is news? Yes, people eat “too much”, because we have made food tastey and affordable. I find it interesting how our diets are so rigorously studied, and people say Americans have an obesity problem. Americans eat too much because our economy is strong enough for use to buy larger quantities of really tastey food for less. Lack of self control + a sedentary lifestyle = you’re going to get fat. Burn the calories or control your intake.
Vegan doctor? Piece of junk
I was vegan 4 years, the worst period of my life!
This is a Beyond, Awesome, Video, thank you for sharing it, sincerely, Diana Lipski
neone noticed palo funded ending lol money even in ted talk,, surprised ted talk allowed dis video,, go vegan before 2030Climate or we all die united nations
Can nutrition suppress shingles virus? Does Dr Greger recommend Shingrix vaccine? I suffer from recurring bouts of ocular herpes despite avoiding all foods high in arginine.
