I’ve been cycling on and off for the past two years with three weightlifting sessions a week, weight stayed a steady 80-85kg without really paying attention to my diet, I.e plenty of beer! But since lockdown I’ve cycled more, and even though I now weigh 90kg my performance on the bike is better because I’m consistently riding. Too many amateurs are focused on weight rather than performance
I notice lots of people keep on talking about Custokebon Secrets (look on google search engine). But I’m not sure if it’s good. Have you ever tried this popular weight loss system?
Hi new to your site. Came across your video blogs while looking to buy an indoor trainer. I commited to training for a 90km ride in Feb. I love riding, but haven’t done much for years. We are in winter here, so inside will be a good start, also I wanted to see how my fitness would cope with learning how to train myself to ride a long distance. During lockdown here I rode between 10 and 30kms and it took my body a while to recover from the longer distances, so I decided to get smart and train myself slowly rather than shocking myself, along with going on some fun weekend rides. Looking forward to getting fit. I have enjoyed scrolling through your videos, I totally admire your angle! How amazing to give back and encourage others to live a better life. I am going to throw myself also into the eat more greens and forget about the weight process. Love it!!! Thanks for sharing. I wanna shin in my 60th year next year and beyound!!! Love to read your e-book!
Phew! At least I have successfully warded off the unhealthy “below 8% body fat”
loved the video. great information and very realistic. Thank you!
Liked and subscribed, love your honesty on how to get the k,s in and lose weight the right way. Awesome video thanks for the video.
What do you think of lost lots of weight using Custokebon Secrets? I notice a lot of people keep on talking about Custokebon Secrets.
I’m from india I’m daily doing cycling 5km will use to my body reduce weighy
So you didn’t mention beer or spirits, so I’m assuming I can consume as much of these as I want. Phew!
Sir My weight is 115 kg I am consistently Riding Cycle Daily Minimum 15 Kms.
M again Repeating I am Very consistent.
Sir will it help me? Will it help me in 6 months?
How do I overcome my fear after being hit my car. Can’t turn sharp right for the life of me anymore.
Good video, well spoken. This is all exactly what I’ve been doing, other than macros, cant be bothered with that. Keep it up!
This is extremely important. I just started today, cycling on the street with my friends. Thank you and Greetings from Romania!❤
Should people who are riding to loose weight worry about efficiency/aero? Part of me thinks a heavy bike with baggy clothes could be a good thing it’s cheaper and it helps you burn more calories. At the same time, however, efficiency makes riding more fun, thus making weight-loss focused riders more likely to stick with it. Any thoughts?
Good video. I’ve found 30 to 45 minutes a day on the turbo trainer, following GCN videos, (or indeed CTX rolling rides, TurboTripping) has made a significant difference, and visceral fat has fallen off. I hadn’t realised I needed to lose it, but definitely feel much better for it.
The water drinking “trick”, should generally be applied all day. Cyclist or not, young or old, you are way more likely to drink too little than too much water. Your body will tell you when there is too much, which is hard to achieve. Your body is like your drivettain, it needs to stay clean to perform well. Water is the way to go mates! (And the occasional pint in the pub of course;) )
Fantastic video!! I lost 40lbs myself last year from food tracking and getting back on the bike again after 5 years off and still trying to lose just a bit more. I think I’ll giving the fasting a go. I have a desk job so I should be able to manage that a couple times a week at minimum.
I got two Pringles holders on my bike to keep me well fueled while riding.
Don’t carb load. You can only store so much glycogen. The rest becomes belly or buttock.
Do some weight training. Adding a pound of muscle to your arms won’t hurt your riding pace, but that pound of muscle will burn 30-50 calories per day, including days you don’t ride.
Nice video, CV! Love the information on gains from caloric deficits. Great advice relevant to anyone trying to get lean for athletic and/or health goals. As another user said, thanks for “keepin it real!”
Hello there…I have to tell you how motivated I am to become a skilled consistent rider since viewing your comprehensive thoughtful video. Thank you so very much! I’m limited due to my significant weight gain due to my depression about my medical problems namely, my bilateral Knee issues but, your outline for practical riding/dietary considerations was such good advice that I am confident that for the moment in my current circumstance I can achieve my practical starter goals even on a stationary bike for now. Your presentation….especially your kind delivery meant so much to me emotionally, it spoke to the whole person not just the physical. I am looking forward to updating you guys on my progress in the near future. Wishing you both continued good health and many
blessings.
I appreciate your pragmatic and simple approach. I’d like to think that the cycling community is better than our broader culture in terms of shying away from “lose fat fast” fad diets, yet I see so many bike influencers pushing weird, restrictive diets. It’s not rocket science. More calories burned than calories in = weight loss. Eat healthy and enjoy everything in moderation. Ride your damn bike whenever you can. Enjoy life.
It’s impossible not to notice how beautiful is that girl (I haven’t sought her name )
Now what can a bag of bones say about loosing weight.
Look I am a fat bastard and I just blow out my bike tire and now I have to wait for a new tire from amazon because all of the bike shops have gone out of business because of the cheap Chinese bikes everywhere.
No!!! I am not going to open a bike shop, I refuse to ever work for anyone, humans are rat bastards and working for them is a no, no. I am wealthy enough to stay at home and complain about myself. You should see me bitch myself out.
Your advice is an excellent tool. The idea of seeing cycling, running, etc, as adventures rather than tormenting exercise to lose weight is brilliant. Really though, they are adventures, aren’t they? I have 13kg to lose, has opened me to a new approach in my training. Thank you, Katie. Keep up the vids.:)
I used to race somewhat competitively as an amateur and got a good sense of what my ideal race weight is. For the last four years I have been involved in mainly DH mountain biking and have just recently found myself back into road cycling because I bought a gravel bike. I have noticed a huge difference in my ability to climb. I needed this reminder on how to shed a few pounds without compromising fitness. I hate the idea though of not having the odd piece of pizza or birthday cake. I appreciate the tips because they are helpful for just about anyone. Thank you!
Amazing video. I wish This channel makes it big one day! Also, I want to be Youtube friends
Through proper nutrition and cycling, I have lost 59kg (130lbs) and kept it off for over two years now. A lot of what GCN is conveying in this video is exactly what I did.
I set a goal of 100 miles, the sense of achievement when I finished the Tour of the Peak District was epic, even if I did have to stop the car with cramp on the way home. I stopped cycling 2 years ago, I struggled with anxiety and hours on the bike with too much time to think was too hard. I’m glad to say though that in July I bought a road bike and I’m out there again for the first time and its amazing, up to 50 miles now but feeling strong. I had forgotten how windy this country is though, those headwinds…..
Lost 12kg over 18 months just by commuting to and from work on my bike (22km round trip). Cut out most processed foods and only eat meat 1-2 times a week but still drink a can of Coke a day. Never counted calories or dieted, never will. I found exercising twice in a day had a big impact as it must have kept my metabolism high all day (also fasted ride into work). Now plateaued at 68kg, would like to lose 3kg more but not going to sweat it as would rather focus on fitness on the bike. Never lost more than a few hundred grams a week. I imagine that I’ll be able to exercise and eat like this for the next 20 years and maintain weight.
I road my fitness bike for over 2 yrs before I noticed much weight change, I just rode to ride, then I started playing with road bike frames, one thing let to another, now I have like 8 carbon frames 3 fully built atm, and now I ride to win not just ride haha and I am lean now and according to some on drugs because I dropped so much weight, now I’m lean but have built some muscle also, I eat meat I know it’s bad or for you lol, but here in the midwest beef is fuel,, to each there own, I have tryed all diets and all carbs imo isn’t the best
I would sooner throw my bike in the hedge than stop eating croissants at weekend.
Great video btw… (drop the add content, 99% are crap anyway)
I love riding my bike and I know I’ve lost a couple of kilos-after just a week!!!
0:26 “How to use cycling as part of a healthy and balanced lifestyle.” Well, if you’re not balanced, you’re going to fall off!
Great video. I think It’s all about feeling good about yourself. Keep your body moving, clear your head and just get out there and the rest will take care of itself.
Thanks! Weight loss isn’t rocket science. It’s hard work, good habits and discipline.
Your looking good. Ps I’m a ‘lady killer’. It goes to show what is possible.
Not sure about u but I only ride so I can drink more beer. I’m getting fatter but slightly slower than sans bike. Cheers!
I just bought a road bike to do exactly that:)
Cycling always helped me to maintain my wight in my youth. That was my ticket for “eat whatever you want”.
Now, 10 years later, I have to lose 35 kg (at least) more like 40kg.
Cycling will bring me there again.
I’m convinced that most effective weight loss comes from delaying insuline responses. So, intermittent or alternate day fasting.
Cycling is an adventure. When I road outside, my group called me Yoda, because cycling is about “pain and suffering”. I really mean it as a wonderful thing. I have a lot of work and life stress. Pushing myself clears the mind and frees the soul.
” ultimately it comes down to calories vs calories out ” well thats not entirely true Dr Fung explains it best. If you have 1000 calroies of brocolli vs 1000 calories of sugar, the hormonal signaling is VASTLY different.
I live in Wales which is one big hill. Where ever you ride there’s a great big hill, so eating healthy always have dieting no!
What is Custokebon Secrets and how does it work? I hear many individuals lost their weight with this popular weight loss methods.
At the start of lockdown, I got back on a bike after a 30 year break. Many years of beer, kebabs, no exercise and a day job where I sit down all day, saw me at 16st 9lbs. Four months later, I’ve lost 2st 2lbs, cycled nearly 1600 miles and feel the best I have done in over 20 years. I turn 50 next February and rediscovering my teenage love for cycling has changed my life dramatically.
My arthritic knees no longer hurt, my tinnitus has been massively reduced and my insomnia is a thing of the past.
Me: im going to eat healthy this year
2 months later…
Me: where’s all my money gone?
I love Manon Lloyd so eloquent and smart and very good looking lady
I find the best way that I lose weight is to cut alcohol out of my diet…..Unfortunately for me, my other hobby is brewing beer……Sorry waistline.
Ha, totally forgot to take my creatine and Omega 3 today. Thanks for the reminder. IMO you hit the nail on the head with the intermittent fasting. So important! Great video. Honest and to the point.
Recovering from a bad back injury from work. trying to fix up my dads 80s Schwinn Traveler. Hopefully it helps my back
Sports Med doc here who loves nutrition and this video was on point. Great job guys!
The great Jack LaLanne said that Exercise is king and diet is the Queen and together you have a Kingdom!
When riding bike I don’t really need motivation cause I already do it for fun!
Good video, Ive lost 25lb so far since the beginning of december and on route the lose the last 15. Diet and cycling on zwift have been key for this. Looking forward to the snow melting to I can ride out side again, after having lost the weight of 2 bikes!
Guys. lost a ton of weight doesn’t need to be hard (I used to feel it did). I will give you some advice right now. Look for a popular weight loss diet plan called Custokebon Secrets (search on google). Thanks to it I have lost crazy amounts of fat. I should not even be talking about it cause I don’t really want lots of other guys out there running the same game but whatever. I’m just simply in a great mood right now and so I will share the wealth haha.
Did you try to actually lift weights to build muscle? I know cyclists normally don’t try to “bulk up” by strength training but anyone wanting to put on mass should lift weights, even if it’s only lower body.
Thanks for another great video man. I’m currently on a calorie deficit and this hits the nail on the head as I struggle with hunger at night.
Good sensible advice! Thanks for not adding to the confusion!
I am 22 years old and am a type one diabetic. I am 5’8” and currently weigh right around 180lbs. I used to weigh 150ish back in high school but it was because I was not taking care of my diabetes. I have been dating my girlfriend for just about four years now and she has been highly supportive and motivating since day one which I am thankful for. I’ve always loved bike riding and yesterday I went for my first ride in a while on my bike that I built from the frame up and it was great. I rode for 10 miles to get started and it was exhilarating! I just wanted to say thank you for this video. It’s nice to hear an honest straight to the point perspective on their journey. My goal is to get back down to 155 but this time in a healthy way being that now I have started to get a better control of my diabetes. We are gonna ride together when we can but Its videos like this that help to motivate me to reach my goals. Sorry for all the me me me stuff but I just wanted to say thanks. I’m going for another ride tomorrow and can’t wait now!
I’m Vegan and I intermittent fast, seems to work well for me. WIth the miles I ride, being overweight should never be an issue.
I’m 6’2″ as well but I guess I have more muscle mass than you. I too ride a bike everyday, mountain biking that is, on the roads and mountains. But I have lost 10lbs already. Good vid man.
So i’ve been maintaining around 1000 calories deficit daily. During cycling I was feeling like I had no power and got tired quickly. I managed to lose 10 kilos, which I wanted. Then for the next three days I just ate whatever I felt like, no calorie deficit, but not over what I need. The first ride after this, I felt like I had super powers, went for the longest climb I’ve done in two years, and did not feel tired at the end…
yo i wanted to lose weight by doing cycling but im scared to do it because they said that it will make your legs bigger and bulkier and my legs are already big because of fat but im still scared to do it because maybe it will get more bigger and worse. is there any advice or tips you can give me?
Good stuff. Was looking for some motivation on losing 20 to 25 lbs. This video helps. Thank you.
Right on. Losing weight is about a lifestyle change and once that happens the pounds/kilos/stones will shed without you even knowing it! It requires patience and is a long term game so to speak. Setting goals has helped me as well, there is always a sense of a challenge ahead and it feels incredible to achieve them. One thing I would also say is to at all times listen to your body I’ve had days when I planned to go long distance but realized I wasn’t up to the task so just cut it short, only to do the distance another day. No shame in that. Community is a big one and although it might be hard connecting with people in person due to the present situation, online communities bridge that gap and are wonderful to provide encouragement and helpful advice! Thanks Katie for the tips and the video series!
Thank you for this video. I struggle with weight and your video with full of good and practical goal setting information. I really like your comment about making it an adventure instead of exercise. I’m much older than you but it’s never too late and I am going to start approaching cycling differently. I do enjoy cycling but I don’t challenge myself. Time to approach this differently so that I can ride with a cycling club and keep up with them. That is my ultimate goal. Blessings to you.
I definitely won’t mimic a pro rider’s weight or muscle mass….I want guns, not buggy whips!!
,
Great video. I have fallen victim in loosing a high amount of weight over a short amount of time. This lead to some failure and more worrying an obsession in loosing, admitted worked for sometime. Because I lost the overall energy to keep cycling, I stopped cycling. Again, because I was older, this had a further flow on affect where things like arthritis became a greater issue. Thankfully over the lockdown I gave myself the chance to return to cycling after six years. I’m feeling great, slightly bitter sweet where my inactivity has had some effect to my cycling performance. Despite this I’m more about rejoicing that I have returned to a sport I love. I couldn’t agree more with what they are both saying.
a better idea for the water, is to add some salt and potassium to the water
Great video as a personal trainer and sports nutritionist you see so many people wanting to be at a ridiculous low body fat percentage year round. They do not realize how unhealthy this is and that it’s only done for short periods by people trying to achieve a particular goal for a race, match, show or for a photography session. Once again kudos on touching on the subject and the importance of a healthy fat percentage and eating a well balanced nutritional meal.
Would love to know at say 250 watts how much faster an 80 kg inc bike etc would go up a given hill compared to a 125kg rider with bike. It’s a common problem in our club when I’m all good on the flat, but as soon as it ramps I’m last. Clearly.
Worth noting Conor, that some people are outside standard parameters. BMI / body fat index’ doesn’t generally apply to men over 6’2″ / women over 5’11”. This is where science gets a bit tricky and professional advice to identify an individuals ideal should be sought
I have started cycling. I have bought a fixed gear bike. My weight is 85kg and I cycle around 15km 4 days a week on flat plains at average speed of 16.5 km per hour. Will this be enough for me to reduce my weight by atleast 5 kg in 2 months?
Love the videos! I am on a weight loss/get healthy journey. Started of at 250lbs and so far lost 23lbs over the last few months and just now getting into cycling, been on about 8 rides so far and loving it. It’s channels like yours that have helped me learn so much in a short amount of time.
an average guy can be vegan, you don’t have to contribute to murder and abuse to be normal
That is a solid effort, excellent job, and a very important conversation.
Lots of kgs to go for me and I feel that extra potential energy fight still!
Thanks for the video! I started riding in to work, 15 mile ride. I have a cannondale that flies fast. I’m currently taking 55 minutes to get to work. I’m 5’8″ and currently weigh 196lbs. I was 220lbs at my worst but 165lbs at my best. Trying to get back at 165lbs. Just subscribed.
Move to a place you can ski 4 or 6 months a year. (If you can ski well or are willing to.learn)… Weight flies off from skiing. Maybe not England.. But winter cycling is too extreme in some climates ( buy a fat bike??????. Hell no.. Ski!)
This is the first “how I lost fat” video I’ve seen that starts by telling cyclist to skip breakfast. For the record people need tons of mental energy to work, just b/c work isn’t strenuous doesn’t mean it doesn’t need fuel. If I skipped breakfast I’d probably get fired.
I love seeing all the comments of people who are on the same journey. Makes me feel okay.
At the end it’s all about eating less than you need. As long as you have a deficit you can eat at the next greasy fingers burger joint. Lost over 40 kg this way in about little more than a year. The tricky part is keeping this weight, when you reached your goal because staying at your goal is not as motivating as reaching the goal.
Hi Katie, I agree with what you said about don’t focus on weight, but focus on something else.
Your story of your journey with cycling is tremendous and so inspiring to anyone. If ever you come to Reading is be more than happy to show you some lovely cycling routes.
Your journey is very inspiring! I’ve been struggling with weight for years. Thank you for the motivation!
Love you “keepin it real”! Lost 40 lbs last year as I took up Cycling. Got another 25-30 to go. Love your channel.
Great, simple advice. Please expand on or make a vid about your fish oil comment.
The title is click-bait. 95% of weight loss is diet and 5% is exercise. I have cycled passed the same fat cyclists on my regular ride for years.
I have rode bicycles most of my life. However, during my early thirties my alcohol addiction escalated and consumed my life. Ten years ago I got help and have been clean and sober ever sense. I got back on the bike 30+ pounds over weight and have dropped the weight and recovered my fitness. I agree, continue to eat, but just make healthier choices in your diet. I am grateful for a program of recovery and cycling, they saved my life. One day and one ride at a time.
Thank you for the helpful video. I am working with a doctor but its motivating to know how you got to where you are. I am diabetic and am at 280 pounds with stage 2 kidney disease. I have not found any motivation to work out but used to love biking with my dad. I recieved his 1998 2300 road trek after he died in 2000. I used to ride that a lot in the early 2000s. last year when I tried to ride I felt so out of shape and the frame was too small for me at this time. I sort of gave up but now looking at the Trek fx3 and watching some videos I feel more inspired to become active again. I dont have a lot of great trails but I think I would like to try and ride at least three days a week and try intermittent fasting-something I will be consulting with my doctor. Thanks again for the video cheers!
Just watched this and you have inspired me to do my hilly 13 mile each way commute, thank you xx
People just make comments due to their issues not ours.Im 6ft tall and weigh 64kg,51 years old and vegan.Belive me I get asked if I’m ill or told I look awful or my “diet” isn’t enough for me.Fuck em all..you look great by the way:-)
Hello Katie
I put a similar comment on Chris Opie’s YT page but I thought it was applicable to your video here.
I’m a big guy, 21.5stone before lockdown, at that I did Mcr to Blackpool for The Christie, then Warrington to Conway with a friend for fun. I’m loving my cycling at the moment, since lockdown I’ve managed to get down to 17.10 stone and counting. It’s much better on the bike now losing that weight.
I find 99.9% of cyclists are supportive of the larger person getting on their bike.
As you say, just enjoy your cycling and you’ll feel good.
Thank you, stay well, cycle safe.
Straight forward as always, Thank you, The only time that I would “Fast” is in early morning. And it’s a short ride, 1/2 hour to 1 hour.Thoughts??
It’s still astonish me just how many people don’t know about Custokebon Secrets although many people with it. Thanks to my friend who told me about it. I’ve lost tons of fat.
Your journey is so inspiring and you’re beautiful inside and out.
Disappointed. Was hoping for more bikini shots after that juicy thumbnail. Good job though.
Can I cycle to get lean? As in I’m building muscle and then I want to lose the excess fat.
Cycling is a fantastic sport for fitness, as long as you do it safely and stay off busy roads. Congratulations. You look amazing!!
I’ve eaten a mainly plant based diet during lockdown and have lost a stone and a half so far. I’ve also been weight training with home gym equipment, using my turbo trainer and cycling. I really want to get into the cycling more and really enjoy your videos.
Isn’t it amazing how everyone hopes to find a magic “bullet” for weight loss?
Personally I struggle with the tendency to overeat after heavy exertions, as in my cycling. Any suggestions on how to get this under control?
The big take away from this video is don’t expect to lose weight just by cycling. No matter how hard or long you ride if you don’t control calories you won’t lose weight. You have to do both exercise and intake control to lose weight and intake control requires self control. None of the fad diets really work for the long term. The only thing that really works is eating a healthy diet with limited but reasonable calories.
Hmm…. Maybe thats why people get so pissy about dieting, they hangry.
Hello! Thank you for this helpful video. By the way, I notice a lot of people keep on talking about Custokebon Secrets (do a google search), but I’m not sure if it is really good. Have you ever tried Custokebon Secrets? I have heard many amazing things about it and my buddy lost crazy amounts of weight with it, but she refuses to tell me:(
just got my dream sports car with help of this method here, e a s y l a p t o p l i f e.c o m
went from 288 to 215 from Christmas 2016 until Christmas 2018…target is 175 by Christmas 2019…really what I have done is try and keep 125-150 miles a week and try to ride at least 6 days a week even if it is just a 30min ride…on the diet side I have not adjusted too much other than watching meal size and almost always only have a salad with protein for lunch…its getting harder now so I am starting to count calories and although injured now plan to do 150-200 miles a week
I don’t do uphills. In fact it’s so much fun to go downhill
This was so informative without torturing us through a longgg and
drawn-out video. Many thanks!!! I subscribed. Hoping to battle menopause with cycling.
I really enjoy your vids. There are educational and highly entertaining. Please keep em up!
3 years ago I lost 4.5 stone in 10months by cutting out all the crap I used to eat, crisps, cakes, biscuits, chocolate, bread, pizzas, ate smaller dinners, cut out drinking and got a road bike, unfortunately I’ve put just over 3 stone back on in the last 12 months and it’s all gone on my stomach as I lost all motivation to get out on the bike or the turbo and started eating the wrong foods again. I used to go for a 20 mile ride every day or spend an hour or so on the turbo if the weather was naff after work but now after 10 or so hours at work all I want to do is sit down. Anyone got any tips on how to get motivated to get out on the bike again or even the turbo, i did go up the gym a few times but can’t stand it. I would rather be out in the fresh air but i just can’t seem to get motivated to, even though I look pregnant and growing pair of tits, and not the good kind.
Used to ride bmx back in the 80s early 90s stopped… Life came about… Picked up a fast ripper last yr.started doing 15 mile rides then 20 then 30 and occasionally do a 40 mile every now and then… Increased my water intake and cut out all candy and soda and alot of junk food, started taking pharmamuscle protein shakes twice a day during my rides… Was 238 at beginning of yr last yr weighed myself a month ago 190 lbs… Im almost 40 havent been this skinny since my 20s!!! I’m hooked and now think about riding every day
After 16 years off the bike my son encouraged me to do a cycle ride. So how can it be and where to cycle to? I decided to cycle to parents home in Llandudno from Somerset. I had a few problems during training which meant I missed a lot of training. On the day of my trip north I went for it, I left the local RNLI station in Somerset and made my way to the Mumbles in Swansea. I called in to a few more RNLI stations on my to Llandudno and on day 5 I made it to my parents home after covering 400 miles. I weighed the same at the end as I started, I was a tad miffed at that but then fat went to muscle or just toned me up
Plan and simple. Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts. You have “been there done that” and that’s who we need to be listening to. I started 3 weeks ago riding a bike 2 out of 3 days and I’m loving it. I’m 280 pounds and 6’2″. Need to lose 80 pounds. I’ve gotten a great start with the bike. It’s so much fun. Thanks again.
Nice one Katie, great video and certainly resonates with my reintroduction with cycling, a good few years ago now but having been fit and fast in my younger years, coming back heavy and what felt like slow was tough. But as you say consistency is key and making it a habit rather than a means to an end got me back to feeling happy on a bike.
Do you think I could achieve this with a stationary spin bike at home.
I am trying to figure out how to love cycling while being forced to do indoor training only. I had to have my ankle replaced with a titanium 3D printed one, so now I am part robot LOL. Seriously though, I got the green light to ride bike 3-4 weeks ago but only on a fixed bike(trainer). This week I hit that wall of aggravation with being forced to ride indoors while it’s a nice 85-95 degrees out which is some of my favorite weather. I more than likely won’t be allowed to ride outside a whole lot this entire year because of healing and recovery. Don’t know if anyone has been in a similar situation and what they have done. I think I will be allowed to at least do rollers in the next month or so but in the meantime. Suggestions are very welcome, I can ride for an hour plus at this point.
Mcdonalds is healthy. If you eat 1 burger a day xS sqme with water = 2 liter a day. Now if you drink 20 youll die
can someone give me a road bike like that to change my life and lose about 120lbs?
Funny thing is that the author of that vegan book, admitted in a interview that vegan/vegeterian is no better than a normal balanced diet containing all food groups.. THAT is what GCN should preach!!
A bit off topic, but the absolute best explanation of weight loss is given by Ruben Meerman, in this YouTube video: https://youtu.be/vuIlsN32WaE
The short version is that the only way to lose weight (mass) is by breathing out CO2. Yes, you can temporarily lose weight via water loss, but that all comes back quickly. We’re made up of various forms of hydrocarbons and water, and it’s really only the carbon atoms that we can shed to lose weight. Eat less, move more is the only thing that works!
Any one tested out the Custokebon Secrets (look on google search engine)? We have noticed many awesome things about this popular diet plan.
If I had such picturesque routes, I’d ride cycle every single day.
Anyone know what is Custokebon Secrets about? I hear a lot of people burn their weight with this popular fat burn secrets.
Looking on losing weight on a bike, im not happy with who I am now, but never owned a nice bike, would love input on what kind of bike I need for a bigger guy…
i need to lose weight so that my tires dont die from being squashed
want to lose weight ion a bike? ride hills, or better yet ride a mountain bike. lost 40 pounds the summer I got my mountain bike
It’s summer vacation and I can ride for 5 hours a day. I’m losing a lot of weight
Cycling definitely helps with weight loss but the only thing that really works is deciding what you put in you mouth………..Spent a year commuting about 120 mile a week and did not loose anything, did not commute in 2019 but changed my diet and have lost 60lbs in the last 18 months. Whichever way works is the best for you and the only downside is having to keep buying new expensive clobber!
Does Custokebon Secrets really work? I see lots of people keep on talking about Custokebon Secrets. But Im not sure if it’s good enough to lost crazy amounts of weight.
I liked the Video, I found cycling hard to start with and I love my food. I have been out on the new bike I got Two to three times a week and one of the days I cycling into work and back home but on the way home it is all uphill, I have found my body is slowly changing and the beer belly is going away. I came across GCN a few months ago and all thanks to the team that got me back out on my bike again with all the good videos and help they put into them of us new cyclist’s,
Oh, come on man… “Extreme… HUGE rider… 90kg”. 90kg is my rather unrealistic “get down to” target, you insensitive clod!:) Jokes aside, you guys are GREAT, thank you for wonderful videos, I learned a lot about cycling from you and managed to put a lot of it to good use, improving my performance and my control of the bike.
How to lose weight by three guys who have the body fat of a chicken wing!!!! Lol. I love the tips though…. I need to lose some weight.
Would it Affect if you eat like any food after you go biking
I had a good experience on fitness world bout two years now first start with playing cardio and lifting a light weight and call it what you will all the advices for the beginner but then had to level up my level and start doing a few diet plans but i stopped cuz i want to leave it as a last choice
but then here it comes the COVID19 man!!!
so i started that diet plan again and it’s really works. man it’s just here their amazing product see your self Keto https://yesimhealthy.wordpress.com/2020/07/16/keto/
Great advice Katie, enjoy yourself, have a laugh, feel good about your achievements. I think about how good it will feel after the ride, and that is enough motivation to get me out there.
This was amazing. I wonder how to find out what the target heart rate is?
This still surprise me, how lot of people do not know about Custokebon Secrets, although many people get great result because of it. Thanks to my cooworker who told me about Custokebon Secrets, I’ve lost tons of weight with it without starving myself.
Drinking a big glass of water before eating a meal is not good advice especially for an athlete where digesting the nutrient of your meal is crucial to staying healthy and fit. You do not want to dliute your stomach acids by drinking loads and loads of plain water before eating a meal.
I lost a lot of weight and I noticed being a little dizzy after a long ride from I think a lack of food
but having a big breakfast made me feel bloated and getting on the bike and start on my trip very hard.
Awesome video. This is stuff that I think we all know but need to hear from time to time. Thanks dude. I started riding at age 29 as well and work really awful hours as a doctor so regular training is difficult, especially trying to race. Eating is my Achilles heel. Started off losing about 25lbs and now struggling to keep it off. Just like progressing in cycling, weight loss is the same deal…. gotta suffer. Thanks again bro.

A legitimately good/informative video Veloharmony, keep it up!
yeah am 103kg now but was 87 sort of 20+ years ago when I was fighting fit. so I would like to get down to 90kg if possible so I have a good chance of getting over the passes in Cumbria
Intermittend Fasting. No diet.
Start with a 9 hour eating / 15 hour non eating window fi from 08:00 17.00 on and from 17:00 08:00 off.
Try not to eat just before going to bed to sleep. Digesting takes a lot of energy wich has a negative effect on body rest.
Also sugar or caffeine before going to bed gives you a energy wake up boost just in time when you need to slow down.
Try to delay your energy boost for after the exercise or after the training.
I like not to eat much during training. Because most of us have enough sugar stored ( during the eating window) in their body muscles & liver to train intense for 1 hour anyway. And digesting food costs a lot of energy too.
So during a 1 hour training you don’t need extra food or the fast sugar sport drinks like advised in the video.
After 1 hour training without fueling you can start burning stored body fats.
Safe the fast sugar sport drinks and caffeine coffee for race day or competition day when you can really need the boost in energy the most.
Try increasing the intermittend fasting non eating window from 15 to 16 or even 18 hours fi from 17:00 11.00 especially on non training rest days to avoid gaining back the fat weight you have lost.
You will notice the food / eating will taste a lot better after exercise in a fasted state wich makes it easier to eat healthy vegetables you would normally dislike when you are not very hungry. See the food as a reward afterwards for your training efforts / pains.
It is the same Like a hunter who catches his prey after a long hunt at the end of the day eating it slowly by the camp fire with his tribe or family in stead of eating a prey in the morning before he goes out into the wilderness for a hunt.
Try not to sleep during daytime daylight, only during nighttime darkness. Because sleeping will slow down your metabolism and disturb melatonine schedules.
The less you sleep during the day, the more you will sleep during the Night .
That’ s the natural way animals live and eat and the natural way humans use to live.
The best timing for low intensity Zone 1/2 training is in the morning before the eating Window.
The best timing for high intensity Zone 4/5 training fi a time trial or hill repears session is in the early evening 1-2 hours after the eating Window at the start of the fasting period.
Last but not least. Just Weight loss is not the long term goal. Because if you don’t give up and keep trying after faillures, there will become a time when you have achieved your optimal weight and performance ratio. Then being healthy & athletic remains as the main long term goal.
Losing more weight than your optimal weight can cause being weaker and losing poWer on the bike.
I have noticed. This fasting rythem is more effective than diets. Since during the daily eating window hours you can choose to eat all kind of different things without restrictions like no carbohydrates atkins diet, no bread or potato diet, no meat diet, etc there is little chance that your body will suffer from shortage of certain nutricients vitamins or minerals.
Though it’s hard in the beginning to get rid of old bad addictive unnatural eating habits or though it is tough to keep on going the intermittend fasting once you have lost weight. After that It’s also a great way to keep your weight constant or to prevent from gaining more weight.
All in all intermittend fasting is a powerfull tool wich puts you back in control again of managing your body weight, fluctuations.
GOOD Luck.
Been through the weight loss process myself and she is 100% correct and enjoying it is the key. Top advice Katie.
I like to bike so hard that when I get in the shower my legs shake then I fall 2 months in and my body looks crisp ngl
Iam 56kg
I was 9 stone 1 now im 8 stone 8 xxx my goal is 8stone 5 i cycle everyday an hour when i can
I’m a bit overweight, and I have so many issues with my tailbone. When I get home from a ride I can’t sit down. It’s really putting me off. Did you ever have this issue? Thanks in advance
Yep on that I agree. Water water and more water. Luv the stuff.
you have body image issues. have you ever seeing a psychologist about it
I have an electric bike… Im not losing much weight but Im doing off-road trails and longer/tougher routes… Definitely helping, but my main focus is on calisthenics workout routines at home.
Cycling is just good fun.:)
loved this video… you have a fantastic speaking style. Keep it up. I am getting into riding for the fist time and want to lose weight. I hope cycling does the trick for me.
losing weight sucks. truth. easier not to get fat in the first place. hey CV, I want to hear more about Pedal Mafia clothing in some future video, if you please.
If you burn more calories than you consume you would be dead.
Nice video, I was at 118kg, staying at home because of the coronavirus doing nothing and I bought a stationary bike at home and I’ve been using it for 20 days straight for one hour each day and eating 2.000 calories and I ate whatever I want but never ate over 2.000 and I have lost 5kg in 20 days. I enjoy it a lot and the time flies by if you put a tv show on or a fitness video or anything to watch.
Consistency always seems to be an important ingredient no matter the endeavor.
I ride for fun nearly every day. No goals for time, speed or distance. Just pick a place and go. Keeping it simple and enjoyable will do wonders for your mind and body. Thanks for your call to adventure! You look great!
From now on I’ll try to ride more. More power to you, very informative content.
Done #277 maybe
Was 250lb really into lifting still lift but started indoor cycling and down too 170 and have a single digit body fat completed my first 100km today usually I split my training up I do one hour in the morning and one hour in afternoon
Love the guy at 3mins 4 seconds trying to bite his energy bar, then a quick cut to another scene Ha Ha
Definitely agree it sucks. I was 225 lbs at 18 years old. I’m 37 and 339 lbs. I am taking up cycling because gym cardio bores me and I loved riding around my neighborhood as a child. Wish I’d kept it up. The lifestyle change is the hardest. Going from thousands of calories to less than 2200 has been hard, but the reward is worth it. And yeah, intermittent fasting helped me lose 50 lbs!
What I would say is that the most valuable tool I found for weight loss was a digital kitchen scale allowing me to measure and weigh portions. Most people have no idea what portion control is. The scale is useful initially so people can get an idea of the portions they should be having. If you eat processed food like pizza you will easily be able to exceed your calories for the day. The problem with foods like pizza, cheese, meat, chocolate is they are all calorie dense. People like to eat the same weight of food each day no matter what it is. If that weight of food is full of calorie dense foods the calorie total will be too much. In summary the diet must change to get the weight off. As to people who shout insults from cars there is a nasty scum element in UK society.

“Be kind to yourself.” I agree. Be kind to yourself and eat the right stuff. I’m not saying to eat less or cycle more, that’s a bad approach. I lost 20kg in the first 6 months of 2019 and never looked back. Cycling is much more enjoyable now.
You mention that it suck a lot but for me it may suck initially but now smooth sailing. 5 to 6mo in.
Two a days & adding good fats to my diet is how I lost weight. Getting up early to do a morning ride, combined with adding almonds, avocado, pistachios & COCONUT OIL to nearly all my foods helped tremendously. I simply used a Nutri Ninja, with smoothies from daily harvest. After a few weeks I branched out expanding those prepared smoothies with more kale, lettuce, raw sweet potatoes, raw potatoes, nuts & assorted fruits. During this time I also experimented with plant based protein powders & beet powder. Beet powder is supposed to be a natural EPO booster. Riding the bike after work for a few hours is how most days went, I lost 5lbs & it felt great.
What kind of ads are these before the video? Bacon and food ads???
What are some ways to lost a ton of fat? I read a lot of great opinions on the net about how exactly Custokebon Secrets can help you lost lots of fat. Has any one tried using this popular lose weight diet plan?
Damn bro I’m the same as you started racing at 27. I’m 28 and I got aggresive when i got dropped in my first race weighting 208 know im at 178. I really watch my weight know and what i eat to maintain. Know if i eat gress food my body dont react like it used to I will feel sick after. Cycling has pushed me get more healthy.
hey can you please make video for thin guys, i dont want cycling make me like walking skeleton hahhaha
It would probably also help out a lot if all my rides didn’t end at the pub.
Imagine that there is a pub with a pint of cool beer served by a gorgeous bar tender waiting at the end of the climb. But it is actually a water tap.
Great content.
I would add that a sort of mild “refeeding syndrome” can occur with fasting and/or cycling, wherein a person ends up consuming way more food than they should in response to their body’s increased hunger cues from these activities.
As far as the nutrition advice goes, processed high fat + high carb + low fiber food is usually the biggest culprit for the average person. If you don’t track these foods (snickers, donuts, etc.), it’s very easy to end up in a caloric surplus.
Nice to see your videos on YouTube, I was a fatty and also lost 35 kg by exercise. Now I am starting to learn how to ride a road bike. You are amazing.
I’m doing a race circuit 3 times a week. 15.3 miles in 57 mins…. I’m losing so much weight it’s silly. Must be burning 800 calories each time. I also agree you should stick your foot down on the last few miles home and really push push push that will get your heart rate going through the roof!!!!!
For Snacking you could try nuts and seeds I love Pecans for protein
Just started riding since the quarantine to keep my time occupied and fell in love with the process. Came across your page and glad I found someone local to follow! such an inspiration! Started at 263lbs and just want to keep myself healthy. Stay SafeStay Strong!
https://youtu.be/4NUtUnaoRrU I can not believe I lost 10 pounds in two weeks just because of this video
How fast are you going when you not coming down or speeding intervals. Just when you talking normally.
I’ve been biking for almost 2 weeks. I started out 2 miles and now at 5.5 miles. I ride 3 to 4 days and take 1 off. I’m 62 and disabled to this is easier than walking. We go on a path with ups and downs
What is it with promotional material in the description and long, meandering, fluff-generating, bigmouth youtubers? One thing that needs to lose weight is your VIDEOS. Slim them down-geezus H.
Fantastic and congratulations….. Ive got an electric MTN bike and its without doubt the best thing ive ever bought…. im out on adventures in north wales all the time on rides from 2-5 hours… its still getting my fitness up as you still have to peddle but it assists at various levels and means you can go off piste and visit places only a car would take me. Great Video & good on you…. stay safe
Your transformation is amazing.. i finally started biking and i hope to get the stunning result you made
I started cycling since the coronavirus hit our country. Even though I was a big guy for a long time, I never had any problems doing sports and now I kind of got addicted and since then I lost over 11kg (in the beginning I was at 104kg). I never intended to lose weight, I just wanted to move my body. For me the craziest part is, that people started telling me I look good and more vital. Cycling is the best!
Totally eliminating cake, sugary food, etc will likely make you binge in the long run.
Instead, reduce it.
You can still have a deficit when eating these items. For example, having an ice cream for dessert will not have a negative impact overall. Include it in your plan for the day and keep a smalll treat.
I use my bike to gain weight. I’m wired backwards. More I ride the more I let myself eat. I had a skinny problem all my life and biking is the first thing that allows me to gain weight.
What is Custokebon Secrets? Does it work? I hear lots of people lost their weight with this popular fat burn method.
What is the benefit of having handles like that, makes me feel like I need to take mine back? I just started biking again today because I remembered how easy it was for me to push myself.
Workout on an empty stomach if possible. Control your fat ass you won’t die..
Great video! I love the way you approached it. Just gotta do it! I lost 30lbs in 2019 and hope to do 30 more this year. Recently started spinning and it’s new for me, but been impactful!
A really good point on being kind to ones self, a lot of us are our own worst enemies when it comes to how we treat ourselves, I used to be really hard on myself until a good friend pointed out I would never treat others how I treat myself! So stop being hard on yourself and be kind, enjoy what you are doing and who you are, it’s taken me a long time to learn that lesson!
I’ve lost 64 pounds in the last 6 months basically all of that was on the saddle.
I commute by bike to work (11km minimum each leg) and most of the morning rides are with me fasting but now I’m starting to eat something small before the ride and then, after some breakfast.
I just did the brought the calories in and out the balance to a level I could still what I like (some fast food included) and lose weight. Now I did start paying more attention to my eating because I want to get more fit and start doing races
I like the ‘keep it real’ you do on your videos. Keep up the good work!
I lost 12 kilos in 2 days thanks to cycling…..

Such a great video Katie and thanks. My story is similar to yours. Changed my diet to “almost” vegan and have been riding my bike. What’s you’ve said in the video is so true. Again many thanks and keep going.
I actually couldn`t wait around to take the weight loss program “Yamzoko Weebly” (Google it). I actually was seriously delighted. I suggest you to Google this strategy also. My buddy has burned 10 pounds already due to this weight loss program..
Hi Katie! Thanks for making this video. I really liked your advice about riding for riding’s sake and not focusing on calories burned, etc. I am an older person (58), with serious debilitating back problems and 45 kilos to lose. In the past when I weighed 128 kilos, I tried riding but could not because my weight was too much for me. I also am a 2x cancer survivor and my strength level is not so great. But I want to get fit and love cycling, so I think I may have found my way! I was doing water aerobics and strength training at the gym, but those are all closed now.
I recently discovered electric bikes, and took some test rides and found this to be the solution for me. Do you know about them? It is basically a “power assist” for me, if I need it. I can ride without it and just use the shifters, or if I’m taking a big hill, I can give it a little boost so I still get the benefit of the workout but am not discouraged if I cannot keep up with my friends. The one I am buying does not have a throttle, so I cannot “cheat” and ride it like a moped. I will have to pedal in order to go anywhere. I just thought this might be worth mentioning for those like me who have physical limitations.
I have lost 10kg since after Christmas… I’M NOT ON A DIET Just making healthier eating choices. I’m diabetic, fasting is not for me
I was watching this video drinking my strong Colombian coffee and this turned into a soft British te… Cycling is awesome..Greetings from Colombia south America..
I usually don’t watch any nutrition videos on YouTube but you are an exception. Keep up the great content. And congrats on the weight loss.
I’ve been riding almost every single day and it’s amazing. Mind you I was a person who was always signing up for gym memberships but never used them. Turns out I just don’t like exercising at a gym.
Thank you Katie….
Another brilliant video.
I love wearing lycra when I am out on my rides.
I love the different colours of the kit and the way it accentuates my body shape.
Fortunately at 60 I have achieved my ideal weight and body shape, thanks to regular cycling and Parkruns.
I always have admiration when I pass a fellow cyclist who I can see is not quite there with there ideal weight. I always acknowledge then with a friendly nod of my head and a smile.
They are taking action and ‘getting out there’ rather than fretting that they need to get in shape. Like so many other people.
And finally…if some one gave me £20,000 and said I can choose to buy a new car or a new bike…..
I would definitely buy a Super Bike….or maybe two….with that money, than any car…
Thanks again Katie…..
Your channel is educational and fun to view….and you bring over the content in a fun, friendly and entertaining way…
Love & Peace….and Happy Cycling.

If someone comments disparagingly on your weight,… I can always lose weight however you’ll always be Ugly stops that conversation.
Week 15, I rode 30 plus miles today with 1654 elevation gain. It was fun and challenging but easier than my first two week rides where I was dying at mile 4-6. I am about 20 lbs over weight…but I decided not to worry about that and just get strong and have fun, it’s happening and it makes me want to ride more. Sure it would be great to be lighter, but that is mainly to make hill climbing easier. My thought is with your Katie…just get out and move, cycle with encouraging people and give yourself time to build. The weight I believe will only change as your metabolism increases the more you move! Thanks for being inspiring Katie!
don’t train like a pro because you probably won’t get the chance to retire at 36
Found your video in May 2020 during the covid19 lockdown. Started cycling on a trek i bought 3 years ago and never really rode. It’s wednesday and i’ve got 45.1 miles this week! goal is 60 a week and to increase as i can!
6’4″ 293lbs 5/21/2020
…ill be back:)
1. Ride a bike
2. Get heart rate up
3. Lose weight
4. Repeat steps 1-3
You can lose weight without having to sweat at all… diet is more powerful than cycling.
Eat as much meat as you can! Never fall for giving up such a rich source of protein, fats, vitamins and minerals.
6’3 300 lbs, need to be 200. Hit me with the book oh wise ones
OMG….I’m sooo happy to find your channel. I started 5 May on a single speed I built. I was 105kg and none of my clothes fit anymore and I got out of breath walking across the parking lot…..I used to do 1/2 Ironman triathlon.
I’m 59 now and was miserable. Absolutely miserable.
I do 150-160 miles a week. Lots of hills.
I’m down 15kg.
Thank you for sharing YOUR story!!
Well played on this video. Just got back into cycling since coming across your channel. Just wow!
Very positive and great advice.
Helped me massively with my diet. Thank you team
I’m not a cyclist yet. I don’t even have a bike of my own. I started 2020 at a massive amount of weight. I’ve been under hospitals for at least 5 years for weight management but to no avail. March and lockdown came I weighed 192kg, I had basically disabled myself, struggling to to any amount of walking and the last bike I went on years ago I just buckled the rear wheel. I had always loved cycling as a kid but since getting a motorbike at 16 and then car at 17 never bothered with one. I would like to get a bike again but my huge weight always put me off. Anyway, I started looking at what I was eating and decided to try and lose some of the weight and as my 21 year old son had been eating an Atkins style diet and had success with it I figured it wouldn’t hurt me to try. So it’s now mid July and I weighed myself this morning and I’m chuffed to say I’m doing pretty well, I’m down to 145kg. Yes I’m still huge by most people’s standards especially for my 5’8 frame but it’s coming off. I can walk now but after years of trauma to my knees it’s still a little painful so I thought I’ll have a look at cycling. This is as far as I’ve got . I’m just looking at what bikes would take my weight. My budget is small so it’s probably a used bike and I’ll probably have to get a mountain bike of some sorts even though I think I’ll be limiting my riding to the local country lanes. I don’t think barreling down a hill is on the cards at the moment, they probably haven’t invented the brakes to cope yet
Anyways that’s where I am so far, I hope I can keep it up and possibly get a bike or even the balls to go outside on one
Can i lose eeight even im not sweating alot because of air… While cycling i dont sweat too much because of air…. can i lose weight?
I was watching this video while drinking my strong Colombian coffee and this turned into in a soft British cup of tea..Greetings from Colombia south America..
I can’t run for an hour but i can definitely cycle for as much as 3 hours! Cycling will burn more calorie than running no arguments needed!
Good no nonsense info, not affiliated with any diet cult either. Can’t argue with the info
Another important tip: avoid alcohol! It’s got a lot of calories + it stimulates your appetite + it inhibits fat burning
Real talk men!
Just starting biking today, and will set up a diet,I’m 210lb and 34 years old.I do gym almost every day just got some issue with my thyroid so even if I drink water I getting fat on… but let’s see how I gonna approach a better me.Also like the way u talk and no advertising bs.
Hi Sir, I’ve just found your channel and subscribed. Today I made the decision to get up and start exercising again. I just did a 30min ride and feel great. Thank you for sharing this information.
I’m 34. 6ft 2in. 270 lbs. I don’t have money for a nice bike but I do have a mountain bike. I ride occasionally, mapped out a route in the neighborhood that gets me about 6 miles which I can do fairly easily if I’m not pushing myself, or as you said, staying comfortable. Any other tips or advice that can help me? I’d like to start riding every morning or as often as I can. I desperately want to get rid of all the weight. I’m done with it. Thanks.
There is a smallish hill near to where I live. I’ve cycled up it huffing and puffing and had to turn my gears up to 3rd or 4th gear….my goal boring as it may sound was to cycle up and down it a few times to build my stamina. Not sure i am the type to like long rides, though I have cycled Mongolia with Exodus, Dolomites and a very undulating Rioja in Spain….for me the goal is to cycle up a hill and feel strong and that it gets easier. I really think i’m a beginner cyclist…..in my head i’ve always wanted to do that because it seems hard. But funny how i can go on these trips but have not tried this idea i’ve had when that hill is probably only a 15min ride from my house. Your video has inspired me to set goals / adventures…..and I want to try it this weekend ♀️ and i also want to lose weight.
I bought a fixie bike 2 months ago. I use it like twice a week to go to the gym. Its not that far (like 3km) i weigh 85kg and i’m a beginner when it comes to cycling. I always had troubles when it comes to losing weight. And ı hate Jogging so i See this as a good alternativ to running. Problem is that i live in the middle of a busy City with traffic and stuff. is there any Tips you have for me folks?
Love the part where you emphasize how our lifestyle affects our fitness. I used to drive for 6-8 hours Monday through Saturday and worked out about 2-3 times a week. Now, I cycle for 5-8 hours doing food delivery 6 times a week. Lol. I’m sure I’ll see the results I struggled to get for the last couple of months. I do have to make better choices in food. Thanks for the video.
My tip would be to work with your own mindset as you’re more likely to stick with it, all goals/tactics don’t work for all people so you need to sit down and figure out what sort of thing motivates you as there are so many various aspects to cycling and some of them wont appeal. For me it was about making it a battle, if I haven’t suffered then I haven’t gone hard enough, no social rides or out nature watchingjust me out on my own battling against myself, the terrain and weather. I also love flogging myself on Zwift as you haven’t got to worry about blowing up a 100k from home and getting back.
KK, 30 days ago I quit eating salty chips. At that time I weighed 214 lbs. Last nite I weighed in at 203.7 lbs. A combination of drinking excessive water, no chips combined with long training rides has taken a little over 10 lbs off of me in 30 days. Will be on the indoor trainer for a virtual ride in Kapellan Vlaanderen later today. It is totally possible to loose weight if you put your mind and spirit to work. Best regards from Springfield, TN, USA. Todd
Totally agree with taking the exercise concept away. For me riding a bike is about having fun and even better with friends or family. That should be the main goal. Subsets of that could be riding a specific panoramic route, going up to have coffee or food 20 km away or more. And so its true, you loose weight when you forget about the scale and start eating properly. For me was taking away added sugar, alcohol and having at least 75% of my food comsumption plant based. Later it turned to more 95% and having a beer once in a while. Life is about sharing, been happy and doing things you like all the other stuff comes after.
Tips after losing 8 stone on the bike and in the kitchen without dieting 1) Don,t diet! get to know what you are eating (not all carbs, sugers and proteins are equal) and develop a new healthy food normal for yourself (some good tips in the video esp plant based meals) eating foods you like is vital 2) don’t dump the treats but limit biscuits, cake etc try non wheat flour low sugar recipes c) BUT snack healthy!!!! this is where alot of healthy eating efforts go astray chop some fruit/veg eg apples, carrots, tangerines leave them around to snack on if you fancy a nibble (cheap too 5 apples = 1 chocolate bar!). This is also great for maintaining vitamin and mineral levels.. Finally respect your food.. cook it with love and savour what you eat. Oh and train train train choo choo
I do remember reading somewhere that a grand tour rider will burn about 7000 10 000 calories per day during a grand tour. Considering that it’s not easy to eat that much in a day, I don’t think anyone should be surprised that staying lean during a grand tour isn’t a problem.
Nothing like needing to punch a new hole in your belt, right?:):)
Thank you for talking about water loss! Most people think that sweating equals weight loss, but actually fat is lost through exhaling burnt up fat tissue in the form of carbon dioxide and other gases. Just because you sweat, you won’t lose more fat…
So happy to have come across your channel. I am new to biking just several weeks in with a loaner bike. I’m already realizing the bike I have ordered and I’m waiting for is probably not the right bike for me. Thank you for the inspiration in the education
Connor is a stick insect to start with. Hardly like he has ever had any weight issues.
I am 43 years old and weigh 96 kilos. Unlike you last year I started riding my bike, but then I quit because I didn’t feel comfortable because of my weight. I’ve recently gone vegan and started again using zwift instead of riding outside. I hope to get over it soon.
(I hope my English is clear enough)
All he talked about how to lose weight or how weight loss occurs. He should be talking about how many kms or how many mins/hrs daily!
After BLM we need justice for all those single women discriminated against for being single and overweight!
A good 8 hour sleep, right besides your wifi router is very healthy ♂️
What a load of nonsense…“a 75kg rider cycling up a really long hill, would be 1min quicker if he lost 2kg“. Only question is the definition of a really long hill…i love your content but sometimes it’s just wtf…
Hi Katie, I agree with what you said about don’t focus on weight, but focus on something else.
Your story of your journey with cycling is tremendous and so inspiring to anyone. If ever you come to Reading is be more than happy to show you some lovely cycling routes.
This is an excellent video!! Thank you so much for making it!
brava! the hardest of cyclists are the ones that go thru what you did…
I went from 307 lbs. to 178 in less than a year by changing my diet, now I ride almost every day.
lol, another punter starving himself and calling it a “diet”. This is NOT healthy, this is BAD advice, and you will wreck your metabolism doing this longterm and you’ll end up fatter than before. Trust me. Stop trying to look like the pro’s; most of them are naturally lean. not everyone can reach that level. You can get leaner by just riding more, but if all your riding your bike for is weight loss, I feel for you.
I took up cycling 5 years ago to lose some weight. I became very fit and got into road racing but did not lose any weight. To lose weight its 90% changing eating habits.
Oh! So that’s what I was doing wrong. Thank you guys! Really appreciate it. Will start doing this asap.
One more thing. Is it fine to use Pocari Sweat when biking compared to Gatorade? Personally, I feel that I sweat more with Pocari Sweat rather than Gatorade during bike trips. Any insights on that?
Very nicely done. Detailed video for an average person. Loved your content. Cheers. Ride safe
I’ve got a bike downstairs and I do zero exercise. If I could just get out a few times a week and stop shovelling sh**e in my mouth on the sofa every night I’d probably do well. I couldn’t go plant based, but your video has given me inspiration. Thanks, and best wishes from Glasgow.
I set a goal to be 188 by this month, I got down to 190, & that’s great for now but your one hour suggestion is right on the money. I’d try to get 30 min before work and 30-60min after work & the results are noticeable in a few weeks. Two-adays definitely help, it’s all about keeping the metabolism up as much as we can during the day, w/o affecting sleep. I’d try to stop cycling by 7 or 730pm if possible.
Great video im not even a cyclist but this video was excellent for fitness in general. You talked about things most people overlook that can be critical to your fat loss
woow, such a wonderful awesome work out. Thank you for showing all the details and explanation in very useful way… https://www.healthline.com/nutrition/how-to-lose-weight-as-fast-as-possible
Love the part he said… comes a time, you just cant eat enough…hahaha.. thanks bro.. good info
Anyone know what is Custokebon Secrets about? I hear lots of people lost a ton of weight with Custokebon Secrets (just search it on google).
I’m 95ish kg I ride a 25ish kg bike loaded with 30ish kg of tools every day… Still as fat as I started this routine 3 years ago…
Hey what’s the major difference between the Giant Defy And TCR line?
The only people watching and commenting here are fat people or ex fat people. For those not obese, i.e. normal weight or slender you will not lose weight cycling, well not if you ride a significant distance each day as you will be constantly eating, washing kit and sleeping.
Just gotta be very active that’s all, the more you exercise the less hungry u become
Congratulations on the weight loss! Huge transformation! Nice bikini body! I know you feel a lot better. I was up to 180 pounds (ca. 82 kg), and I am now down to 157 pounds (ca. 71 kg) and I feel and ride much better! You are a very nice lady!
You don’t need to cycle to lose weight. It’s alllllll about diet lifestyle.
Just started biking. Thanks for the awesome tips to enjoy cycling and lose weight.
Hi Katie, just found your YT channel and for this particular blog, all I can say is, never were truer words spoken:-) I’m a 63 year old chap weighing around 100kg and have started going out on my bikes again this year for the first time in ages. Have covered circa 900km so far since early April and I can already tell that my fat levels are reducing in favour of more toned muscle, which for me anyway, is a great result.
Well done on your weight loss you look fantastic and thank you for all of your very helpful advice:-)
3:45 This is already information that I knew intellectually, but having somebody actually put it this way Out loud made a world of difference for me.
just kick the carbs out the door and it wil go 2000% faster with the fat loss.
94 Kgs now.
I can burn more than 2K Calories per ride.
But i just cant control what i put to my mouths.
Food was my weakest point after all…. =(
I lovd this, im a big girl and have been on my road bike for 6 weeks, ive not lost anything yet but I am getting stronger. Hurts me when people say nasty things, but then I feel awesome when I overtake people and keep up my pace . Never judge a book by its cover! Love this video
Thank you x
i once lost a lot of weight with my bike and i was very fit but then i snapped my bike in half. and im a fat depressed fuck
Really if you’re a 75kg mid 30’s male, then you need to gain some weight.
Wow you look incredible, ive just started on my cycling adventure, thanks for the advice.
I have lost 31kg in 3 years from cycling with no diet. After noticing the change; you feel so happy that its working and you get excited about riding the next day and the next.
Now I’m at the level that I’m competing for cups on Strava segments. Segments helped me as I have a competitive drive.
Nice food and a fun way to lose weight. Best of both worlds.
Love the videos! I am on a weight loss/get healthy journey. Started of at 250lbs and so far lost 23lbs over the last few months and just now getting into cycling, been on about 8 rides so far and loving it. It’s channels like yours that have helped me learn so much in a short amount of time.
Wonderful cycling habit. Well information for losing fat. Amazing job.
Last year in 9th grade I was 250-60 pounds. Now a year later I’m in 10th grade and I went from 216-20 pounds to 178.8 and the year is not even over with. That’s from September 2019March 1st 2020
Losing weight isn’t easy and i can prove it.Trying hard diets that make you feel uncomfortable and hungry all the time isn’t a solution.I have recently discovered about this product that has had fascinating affects on me.Try it out.:)-> http://www.lnk123.com/aff_c?offer_id=228&aff_id=431288
Intermittent fasting is horrible for thyroid function man this diet you speak about is not sustainable, it is not calories in calories out. I’ve lost alot of weight cycling and I eat 3000 to 4000 calories a day and I’m never hungry.
I have already skinny need to add some muscle, what should I do? Please make some content.
Coming up on 11 months into my weight loss journey this year. 40kgs lost (90 lbs ish). I found the most effective way to strip weight has been intermittant fasting with Low Carb High Fat. No potatos, rice, refined sugars, flour, bread etc. Once you become fat adapted, your body knows hows to burn it more efficiently. Instead of looking to your blood for carbs it goes straight to your fat stores for ketones. Full keto is a bit too extreme for me, but LCHF seems to be a good balance. I’ve tried CICO, Fruitarian, 40/40/20 etc etc. LCHF definately had the best results (with IF)
so just to clear this up you can lose thigh weight not in your belly? or am I wrong
Just amazing to see how finding something you enjoy can have such a positive impact. You look fantastic.
My husband and I just bought some good used bikes on May 23 and started riding. We started out 2 miles and now I’m up to 5.5 miles. I’m 62 and have very bad feet and am on disability. This is much easier than walking. I’m hoping to tone up and lose some weight. No hurry, just slow and steady.
Quality of food (not calories) is the real key. And bodies are made in the kitchen. You can’t out ride a bad diet… there is no “riding it off”. That is wrong thinking. There is nothing in your body that tracks calories, all a calorie does is tell you how much heat that food produces. Your body uses a calorie of fat different to a calorie of protein to a calorie of carb. You can get all the carbs you need through leafy greens and cruciferous veges. Protein, good fat (avoid processed foods and ALL seed oils) and carbs from leafy greens… you will be well on your way to proper body weight and decent body composition..
I’ve Plateaued, now what?
I went from 21’5 stone to 16’10 but I’m now hovering at 16’10 for the past 2 months+. 150 miles avg a week, 2 hours avg ride. This belly has got to go.
I don’t know how to ride a bike. Can I loose weight with an exercise bike?
As expert, I think Custokebon Secrets is good way to lost crazy amounts of weight. Why not give it a shot? perhaps it’ll work for you too.
My girlfriend is making me gain weight and not letting me ride my bike when I have time off as all she wants to do is be with me and get driven around places.
Great meeting you at the shop this week. Thanks for the inspiration and advice!
you’re the first video i have clicked on about biking…i don’t even own a bike yet, but this is my first step to changing my lifestyle. i’m halfway saved up for a bike i have my eye on. i turn 27 this coming tuesday july 21st, and i am 218 lbs. some of your advice may be a bitter pill to swallow but it’s realistic and true. thank you.
Also I have been exercising like others for 4 weeks, as a result, I got lost my weight over appx 20 lbs, but Not only taking out but also Meal plans were needed necessarily.
this video clip is very very useful to remove belly and thigh fat so much. Please. check my channel related to ‘How To Lose Weight So Fast’. Thank you very much.
My goal is to lose weight, especially to burn thigh fat. I have a fixated bike at home. I rode 20 minutes today and I was sweating a lot. I plan to do that every single day, while trying to eat healthier. So that’s 140 minutes (2 hours and 20 minutes) per week. Is that a good routine? How long will it take for me to see results?
Started cycling in July 2018 and stopped eating meat and drinking alcohol the same month. I didn’t actually do it because I was overweight (which I was) but I soon started to lose some kilo’s. In two years, I lost about 30 kilo’s without really dieting but mainly having fun on my bikes and eating healthier. I’m 66 kilo’s now and I have to admit, climbing is more fun, now
I actually gained a bit of weight when I first started cycling my appetite was nuts after doing a 40 km ride and I think my legs were getting bigger. That has curbed off though, about 10 weeks in, as my appetite has leveled off, and now I seem to be dropping a bit of weight. My legs are noticeably stronger and waist is definitely smaller.
For cyclists with a knee injury, what is a good knee brace to wear while riding?
Me and my sister have been doing 8 to 15 miles a day 5 to 6 times a week
Keto, burn fat instead of carbs for fuel, lose massive weight
Last year in the summer I got skinny asf from cycling. Winter came and I gained a belly. I look back at my skinny flat belly self and now am cycling everyday again to get there. Once u get there u know u can get there again!!!! Good luck everyone, it is possible from just biking!!! BURN UR BELLY FAT
Not sure about this one. I’m at a point where my fitness is reaching a plateau, so one way to get faster is improving my power to weight ratio. At 13-14% body fat I can still see some “love handles” that don’t look like they’re particularly useful when riding. I’ve tried intermittent fasting, makes me feel dizzy and hard to concentrate. Of course I could also stop drinking beer and things that mess up with one’s metabolism but people don’t really understand that state of mind when you’re preparing for a goal race and want to have a healthy diet, so yeah, losing those few more kilos take a lot of dedication and cannot be sustained over prolonged periods of time.
Menon, remove the WiFi router away from your bed and ideally outside your bedroom. It’s not good… Thank you for the informative video.
Hey dude, some great advice. I’ve been cycling since 2012, 32 yr old now. Fluctuated alot fitness wise since 2012 with cycling, life gets in the way… Since 1st Jan this year I’ve lost 2 stone (28 pounds), currently 13 stone, by following intermittent fasting and TRE (time restricted eating) principles. Fast days are 800 calories, eat no earlier than 10AM, eat no later than 6PM. Cut down on alcohol, almost completely. Also reduced number of capuchinos I drink, 0 in the week, just 2 over the weekend, I may occasionally have an espresso shot before a training ride, I have a bean to cup coffee machine at home, it makes great coffee, but the convenience has been adding to my waist line. Depending on my bike training intensities I do eat more than 800 calories on training days, with an increase in protein also, otherwise my body would not be able to recover and build fitness.
After 6PM I won’t even drink tea with milk… fruit or herbal teas, 0 calories.
My goal right now is to lose a further stone, will assess from there if more is achievable.
I’ve enjoyed your video and found it very informative I would like to loose a little weight but tend to focus on hard rides to get my pulse up 1 thing I’ve got from this video is to try and plan an adventure no obsess out weight loss
I don’t eat at all when i’m going to cycle for 4 hours (High intesity).
It burns off fat like a rocket
It,s too tough to me, I have some problem with cycling. Please gave me some ideas like this https://shrinkme.io/SJyzIwLg
Great advice here. Nutrition can be a confusing rabbit hole and I’ve been down it a few times before! I do pretty much the same thing you do. I don’t eat before 5-6oc unless it a hard training ride then I’ll eat per and post ride. Drinking plenty of water keeps you feeling full and helps a lot. I don’t buy into all the extrq advantages that get pushed about intermittent fasting like increased broth hormones as they are just bs but it is a great way to help restrict calories. Found this channel through this video and hit subscribe half way through it, great work mate.
I don’t need motivation lol I have to ride a bike to work I’ve lost 2 pounds been working for a month I work sa-w my job is 1/2 miles away but I live by so many hills
I really like it is about cycling and having adventures than weight loss only. I enjoy my bike rides started again, after years actually decades, of not bike riding.
Great message with no BS. Gotta harden up. It’s worth it. A little suffering to shed the fat is worth it. Feel better, look better and perform better. Just make sure calories in are quality.
Did you eat dates when trying to lose weight? They are my go-to for sweet cravings but I’ve heard others say they’re not great when trying to lose weight.
Manon pats her FLAT stomach as she talks about shedding a few pounds! Lady, are you making fun of us?
I’m 90 kilo (200 pound) 5,7, and am an active triathlete. But eating a hi veggie diet, sleeping well, doing loads of active recovery work and taking my rest days have still yielded me a gut I cannot lose. I lift weights a couple times per week, walk daily (taking the pup out), and do 2 cycle sets during the week with a 2-3 hour ride on weekends.
Still can’t lose the weight. But, I’m health and have good endurance. So don’t get bogged down in the weight, it’s a SLOW process
Really enjoy Your videos Katie! I started when I was 100kg being only 179cm tall which is basically obesity. It began when I went to the doctor and found out that my blood pressure went up again, it was 155/90 which meant I had to increase my dose of blood presure drugs, sugar over 110, feeling bad and depressed etc. After watching one of Your videos (I think it was one just about the 200km ride or something), then another about Your weight loss, I thought this is it! I was considering going fully plant based for a while when I saw What The Health and some of Dr.Mcdougall’s lectures, but seeing You doing so great, looking so incredibly good switched something on in my brain. Right away I started commuting to work, that’s about 16km, so the first couple of weeks were tough. Threw away all animal products, sugar and oil. It’s been exactly 3months and 4days since I started. Last number on the scale was 86,7kg and last week the doctor cut in half my blood pressure drugs which really almost made me f***in cry. I commute 5days a week, on saturdays I go on longer rides (longest so far was 125km), I do not count calories just stay clear from oils and processed sugars, I do use a little bit of salt from time to time. I still need to lose a bit of weight but it’s going really well and almost efortless. The only problem is that pretty soon I will have to buy some new clothes:) So kinda want to thank You for Your videos, You’ll always get a thumbs up from me! Cheers and All the best from a bloke from Poland!
Phenomenal, our happiness comes from ourselves not from others.
As you think of yourself is truly who u are, so think good.
How long a week need to cycle at what cadence to loose 30kg in 9 months?
A calorie deficit of 500 is easy on days when you aren’t riding much but if I go on a 20 mile ride then I’m burning around 4,800 calories for the day. It seems crazy to be eating 4,000+ calories while trying to lose weight. Somewhere around 3500 seems more appropriate. Is this a hard an fast rule, even for people with a BMI of around 30?
Hunger is the sensation of fat leaving your body, there is no easy solution, it is unpleasant…. Suck it up.
Hi there, have you considered this diet plan called the Custokebon Secrets? My friend says it helps people lost crazy amounts of weight. Is that possible? I also noticed many good review relating to this diet plan. Thoughts?
Another good video Ricky, I’m down 50lbs doing a high fat no sugar very low carb way of eating, started riding again in September and loving it being so much lighter, 5’10”, weight is 189, trying to get to 179✌
I have recently started cycling and its absolutely true, taking mind off from weight loss makes it look so easy. One month into it I purchased an MTB and ever since we have been cycling to nearby hills in Bangalore every weekend. Have managed to find a local community who are totally fun to hang out with. But unfortunately I am the only woman in that group. I plan to start a women community in India for Cycling Adventures!
Intense cycling can literally makes you melt. On average you can easily 700 calories per hour.
You really need a representative from the larger side and not praying mantis cyclists
Don’t drink too cold water before eating, it’s not good for your stomach, especially after training!
First year into cycling and I’m trying to stay active this winter, do you guys have any recommendations on indoor trainers around 600$?
