I have never heard of yerba mate, but I am going to try it NOW!
Please forgive my harsh comment. Probably I must have been agitated with something else that day. Anyhow, I just revisited this old comment, and upon research found something that may be worth consideration: guayaki.com/mate/81628/Health-Concerns.html. Best wishes to you…
Just a heads up, i tried it.. first day was good… second… got sick and nauseous… third day still sick…. no more for me. Not being negative.. just adding context
I love Mate! Its been a part of my life for the last 7 years and I wouldn’t change a thing
I’m half Argentinian, half Australian. I drink mate every day at least once a day, but usually 2 or 3 times. Been having it since I was about 12
I am not hitting on you but the combination and the way your eyes & smile compliment each other, has made me have a male crush on you.
Thank you for the information and the wonderful way you explained it.
Love it, thank you! Although I must add that we can’t make our body alkaline. Apart from that, thank you
References for what?
1. As for the cytotoxic and inhibitory effect of yerba mate on lymphocytes, that’s the conclusion drawn in the paper that Dr. Greyer is commenting in this video, this is its title:
“Evaluation of the cytoand genotoxic activity of yerba mate (Ilex paraguariensis) in human lymphocytes in vitro”
(ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/19733686)
2. As for the anti-cancer activity of cytotoxic T cells (T lymphocytes), just check any introductory textbook on immunology.
I started drinking yerba mate and i love it. My favorite thing are the psychological effects. I feel alert but relaxed at the same time, very nice feeling I’ve never felt before. Coffee makes me feel nervous and jittery. I can drink as much yerba as I want without feeling jittery.
Look at this tutorial!

I’ve been drinking Yerba Mate for almost a year now and I love it! I feel the difference in healthier energy and it curbs my hunger. I barely drink coffee ☕️ now and even when I do drink coffee the effect is short lived. Yerba Mate is the best!
Yerba Mate is the drink Maestro from Mozart in the Jungle (Amazon Prime Video) drinks!! I’ve always wondered what exactly that was! Thank you for the video!!
I don’t care for mate benefits to drink mate, it’s cultural, historical, social. I exist with and totally adore Argentinian culture and it has become part of my family. If any of you are looking for mate because of benefits, turn back. You aren’t a friend.
New sub excited to watch you all that energy is awesome. I have known about yeba mate for about a month now I’m drinking it now let’s see what happens but love to share the results with you.
Just did a FaceTime with my nephew to experience a Mate. Good vibe.
Reduces colon cancer by making you poop. Meh on anything else. Magnesium is good for the body.
Have you had green or white strains of kratom? I just ordered some yerba mate the other day (it’ll be here tomorrow) as I wanted something to take the place of kratom while I take tolerance breaks from it so I’m hoping yerba mate fits the bill. The green strains of kratom give me amazing energy, focus, and determination to get stuff done, but of course the tolerance levels increase when you don’t give it a break which I’m bad at doing, hence why I’m hoping yerba mate can help me get focused again while not taking kratom for a few weeks. If you haven’t had kratom definitely give it a try, especially if you’re having the same problem with tolerance buildup with yerba mate as I’m having with kratom.:)
Nice video. I’m from Bolivia and love Mate. I haven’t found really good studies on it though, if you have some links, that’d be awesome!
It say online it contains a carcinogen and can cause some types of cancer I wonder how true is that
Eating causes cancer. Cure for cancer: refrain from eating. Side-effect: you’ll die. Regarding yerba maté, the study was done in Brazil with smoked leaves. Just buy organic, air-dried leaves and you’ll be fine.
Love it so much better than coffee. I step like 3 tea bags in a large insulated cup (20-24 oz?) for 10 min. and it makes you feel invigorated but not shaky, over acid (heart burn), or crappy like too much coffee. Trying to figure the best way to brew. Need to try French press.
Argentinean here. Here is very usual to drink yerba mate. I cannot live without it! I usually drink like 3-5 liters of mate per day!
Anyone drinking Yerba mate whilst suffering from Ezema or psoriasis?

Ywrba mate is amazing for you and way better than coffee/teas
I’m from Syria and we drink mate as much as Argentina
I love your opinion about it!
Cheers
Mate is magic, but never forget to drink it the traditional way. It´s more than a drink, it is all about sharing, friendship, conversation… it is a way of life.
I just wish it wasn’t so bitter. I don’t like artificial sweeteners and I’m watching my sugar intake.
Very unique and interesting channel. Looking forward to more of your content!
Yerba tea Is the only thing that helps whit my psoriasis. after 2 weeks drinking yerba tea all psoriasis Is gone.
My Thea is 25% Hot.
75% Ice Cold Fusion!
Cause I haven’t got,
the Time for this!:3
Let me put this straight. They didn’t test the effect of yerba mate (and caffeine) on tumor cells (cancer cells), they tested it on “healthy” lymphocytes. And you don’t want won’t kill your own lymphocytes to prevent cancer (unless you want to prevent a lymphoma).
I want same yerba cup that suarez have… Will you please help me out.
I don’t know what you are talking about. The control group wasn’t exposed to caffeine, therefore the comparison is perfectly valid. And indeed, they quantified as “% of cells” yerba mate “in comparison” to the control group, no more comparisons are required.
It’s irrelevant that they compared the effects of yerba mate with caffeine (not coffee) in another set of experiments.
And as you can see at the end of the paper, the authors declared no conflicts of interest.
Argentinean here! Here go some recomendations with brands:
I drink soft yerbas (not-super-bitter) at morning and yerba with other herbs (and with stevia) at like 3-7:30 pm, so, if you want some soft-flavor yerba, my revomendations would be “cruz de malta” (one of the most softs, less bitter ones, i think is the best for starters), “chamigo” (my favourite, it holds a balance between not-super-soft flavor and duration, and also i like more the flavor), or “union” (the more strong of the soft ones, but it lacks durability (“se lava rapido”, it losses its flavor quiclky)…
If you want something with herbs, i would recommend “CBSé” (try the white or the lemon package), or “cachamate” (try the white package one).
Special mention to the yerba brand “ajedréz”, it has a wood-like flavour, i think that a wine-drinker would love it, but for me, is like licking a tree haha.
I remark that yes, here in south America drinking mate has a very importante place in our daily routine, in any place(social events, university classroom sharing a mate with a teacher and the other students, or at home), at any hour of the day( something that is not so known is that yes, yerba energizes you without the end crash of coffee, but it is said that yerba mate also helps you to sleep better after some time passed).
I personally drink it every day, 2 liters at morning(the first thing that i do in the morning is drinking it), and 2-3 liters in the afternoon!
A last thing to say, every brand of yerba has a diferent flavour, so if tou try it once and you didnt liked it, try another brand! Experiment, mix, add sugar of stevia, try different temperatures… Drinking mate is an art, and the resulting flavor depends of a lot of factors, from the material/form of the recipient, to the contents of minerals of the tap water, and even the way that you pour the water in the gourd!
Sorry for making this comment long and for the misspelled words, english is not my main language.
Stay healthy and drink mate!
I am having my mate from a regular mug and loving it. About 2 tsp in 250ml hot water and a little almond milk. No sweeteners. It shouldn’t replace your meals because starving is never good but I do think it suppresses appetite and gives energy and somewhat reduces depression. Try instead of sugary/fatty snacks when experiencing the afternoon low in the office. And you may thank me later for the suggestion 😉 PS I don’t drink coffee. Quitting it may be another little miracle
I’m just enjoing AMANDA Broff, hoppe you ‘ve enjoy as well:)
Drinking my first cup of yerba mate while watching this video, it’s tasty!
But yerba mate kills cytotoxic lymphocytes, immune cells with the capacity to find and kill tumor cells.
I hear that Yerba Mate is linked to cancer. Do you know anything about this? And could you do a video on it?
Best way i can describe the effects of yerba is a “calm focus”.
I would not give coffee up. It does not make me feel jittery because I only drink enough to enjoy its flavor. Especially if it’s from Mexico. ☕ but I will try mate one day.
Thanks for this video! It took me back to Argentina! I wasn’t aware of the health benefits of Yerba mate.
Dude your eyes are dilated. You sure this doesnt have the coca plant in it?
I’m Chilean Australian and I love Maté!!! Left the coffee behind completely and feel much better. I drank both for a while but the coffee just had negative effects jitters, crashing, acidity, stomach cramps and dehydration. I sleep better now and don’t wake up fatigued even when lacking sleep as I am a shift worker. I would highly recommend this to anyone although have heard that it’s not recommended for people with high blood pressure. It does have an acquired taste so probably try with a bit of sugar or natural stevia before going Amargo( bitter). Great to see it growing in popularity here in Australia and around the world!!!
I have drank Yerba every day for 10 years. Amazing drink and couldn’t live without it. Prefer it better to tea and coffee. Organic Amanda and Kraus are my favourites
Mirá vos.. Sabía que el mate era una bebida saludable pero no tenía idea de que ayuda a combatir el cáncer.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
I’m Argentina my day starts with a good mate I drink easily 4 to 5 ltrs a day
Did they test the “San Mateo” (unsmoked”) Yerba Mate? Or only the “Traditional” (smoked) Yerba Mate? Because I thought the carcinogens were in the smoke, not the plant itself?
i have some in mail coming. along with a straw and a bad ass mug from deathwish coffee. mug was 40 plus 20 shipping. the tea itself was cheap on amazon. i got 2 years worth.
When se study for a test drinking mate is a must. It keeps You awake and focus
Please kindly read the previous message, and cite an article that compares mate with coffee. The key phrase following “quantify” is ‘in comparison’.
Either way, I once read an article that smartly claimed the health problem from mate are due to the particular pesticides used on it.
Also, even though it may seem off-topic, please let me use this opportunity to make positively mention:
ravediet(dot)com/caDVD.html
Anyhow, I can’t keep up these talks any more, and wish you good luck!
Please
In order not to hate the taste of yerba mate, for the first time, it is better to sweeten it, it’s easier to drink it
I am from Syria, so it’s quite surprising but mate is also very popular in my country! I really love it for its energizing and stimulating effects before working out and it is also one of the favorite beverage of footballers before training or playing
https://ideas-growth.com/yerba-mate-favorite-drink-of-footballers/
Thanks for finding and citing the reference! But, the “evaluation” does not “quantify”, in comparison. So, from a scientific point of view, it is useless. I wouldn’t be surprised if the “evaluation” was funded by the competing industry, with the purpose of bringing down the sales of mate. Indeed, according to the last sentence in the “evaluation”, even coffee is cytotoxic, because it, too, contains caffeine. So, why isn’t there an “Evaluation” and “Update” video for Coffee?
I used to drink yerba mate way back in my Bible school days! Loved it Great video! Thanks for sharing this with the world!
Have you tried Yerba Mate yet!? Comment “yes” or “no” below! Thanks for Watching!
I heard about this tea and am looking forward to trying it out. I ordered the tea bag version.. I hope it’ll be as effect as the loose tea…
would it then help those with autoimmune diseases who are on drugs like prednisilone, cyclosporine, procarbazine, cytosar, etc. to reduce their various white cell counts? my poor little dog is on all of these simultaneously and long term for the terrible disease GME, an autoimmune disease that attacks the central nervous system. it’s a nightmare, and his immune system must be constantly suppressed or risk a devastating relapse. he was paralyzed from the neck down, but can walk now. but the pred gave him steriod induced diabetes at 3 1/2 years old and has recently caused blindness from cataracts which grew amazingly fast. i would like to help him with other immunosuppressors. turmeric is out because of the oxalates as he already has a bladder stone. i might try the isolated curcumin extract. the goal is to suppress the immune system with the least harm to his body, so i’m looking for relatively benign alternatives that would allows us to lower the doses of the above-mentioned drugs. he’s already been greatly harmed by the cocktail of strong drugs at immunosuppressive doses, but he’s fighting so hard. we’ve been dealing with this for 7 months now since that awful day, april 5th, when he was stricken and progressed from a limp paw to quadraplegia in 6 1/2 hours! fight gme!
What happens if you steep the yerba mate for 12 mins instead of the recommended 3-5 minutes? Is that too long?
helps u reach a flow state. im uruguayan. many of our football soccer players drink mate.
These women are definitely ladies who visually give any man a boost of energy!
First, not all in science is perfectly quantifiable. Often the results of an experiment can only be given in a qualitative way (e.g., a certain drug is effective or not in a particular patient).
That said, in this particular case the authors did quantify the effect observed in cells exposed to different concentrations of yerba mate compared to the control group (cells not exposed to yerba mate). Have a look at article figures 1 to 5:
sciencedirect. com/science/article/pii/S1383571809003076#fig1
Lol. It kills me how white people are so late on everything. I’m in my thirties and have known about Yerba Mate. it’s common in Caribbean’s stores. This dude heard about it 5 minutes ago and is talking about “I just discovered a new plant…..” And of course when I go to search for Yerba Mate preparation it’s all white people in the top recommended YT videos preparing it. ♀️
This is stupid why not just read it yourself. The ai makes no sense
Glad to find a new health conscious YouTuber keep it up man love the energy!!
The entire world would be so much healthier if we included this in our daily routine!
To changing the world
Hey, get your fact straight.:(
Yerba mate does increase the rate of cell death in “cancer cells”, which is EXACTLY what you DO want from your herbal tea!
