Soft and Chewy Ginger Cookies (gluten & grain free)
Video taken from the channel: Living Healthy With Chocolate
Instructions. Preheat oven to 350°F. In a large bowl, cream together the butter and sugars until light and fluffy. Beat in the egg, then stir in the vanilla extract, molasses, and orange zest. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, ginger, baking soda, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt.
Soft and chewy ginger orange molasses cookies. These festive holiday cookies have the perfect bite of ginger with bright sweet orange. They are grain and gluten-free and made with simple wholesome ingredients. The holidays are here!
Pre-heat the oven to 350. In a large bowl whisk together the flour, ginger, baking soda, cinnamon, cloves, and salt. In another bowl beat the butter and granulated sugar until it’s light and fluffy. Beat in the egg and then the molasses.
I thought about sandwiching them with cream cheese frosting, adding orange zest, dipping them in white chocolate etc. But that all changed when I took a bite of a cookie warm out of the oven and I knew that these little beauties needed to stay exactly like they were. Some ginger cookies are soft, some are puffy and cakey.
These are are chewy.Enter Chewy Orange Cookies!! I have been in a total cookie-baking mood lately. It’s been awhile since the holidays, where I was baking cookies every other day. So it was nice to take a little break and bake some other things.
But I do love baking cookies, and Chewy Orange Cookies are just the bite of summer I was looking for.The key to making these ginger cookies chewy is to make sure you don’t over-bake them. I baked these for precisely 9 minutes. Let cool on your cookie sheet for about 5 minutes before transferring to a rack to cool completely.
Chilling the dough (making sure it’s cold) also helps ensure a.Original recipe yields 20 servings. The ingredient list now reflects the servings specified. Ingredient Checklist. 2 cups sifted all-purpose flour.
4 teaspoons ground ginger. 2 teaspoons baking soda. 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon. ½ teaspoon salt. ¼ teaspoon ground allspice. These soft and chewy Ginger Molasses Cookies are just what your holiday season has been waiting for!
Delightfully chewy with a crisp sugar coated exterior and plenty of spice and warmth, these molasses cookies are impossible to resist! Make sure to try these Cranberry Orange Shortbread Cookies.Instructions. In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, soda, cinnamon, cloves, ginger and salt. Set aside.
Using a separate mixing bowl, either with a stand mixer or a hand mixer, cream together the softened butter and sugars on medium-high speed until the mixture is light and fluffy and a pale yellow color, about 2 minutes, scraping down the sides occasionally as needed.Preheat oven to 375°F Whisk together dry ingredients, set aside. In another bowl, cream together butter and sugar until light and creamy. Add molasses and egg, mix until combined.
Line 3 baking sheets with parchment paper. In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, salt, and ground ginger and cloves. Using an electric mixer on medium speed, beat butter and sugars. Two kinds of ginger offer a slightly spicy kick while fresh orange peel counters the rich, warm flavors with a pop of brightness.
Oh, and let’s not forget about the perfect texture of these cookies. To me, homemade cookies should be soft, chewy and moist, which is exactly what these orange-ginger-maple cookies are.1 teaspoon organic orange peel granules and 1 teaspoon ground organic ginger 1 tablespoon cinnamon and 2 pinches (2 ml) ground organic allspice.
Star-shaped cookies seasoned with ginger and orange peel granules. “Bun” cookies; moon-shaped cookies seasoned with cardamom. The cookies include ginger, cinnamon, cardamom, cloves, orange, vanilla and anise, so while they are called “ginger cookies” and there is a good amount of ground ginger in them, ginger is not the dominant flavor. Instead, these cookies just have a wonderful blend of spices that gives them a lot of complexity, rather than just one note.Preheat oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.
Line a 9-by-13-inch baking dish with foil, leaving a 2-inch overhang on two sides; coat the foil with cooking spray. In a medium size bowl combine the flour, ground ginger and salt.

Hi I don’t have unbleached almond flour
Would it make a difference when trying to bake the cookies?
I’ve been looking up multiple videos of these cookies and I want to bake my cookies the way you are but I seen that a lot of people cool their dough but you don’t.. is their a specific reason why you don’t?
I’m Belizean and I’ve never heard of bulla. Maybe it’s a regional thing. Forgive my ignorance but what is bulla?
How soft are these? If I wanted a slightly crispier texture, would I have to bake them longer?
Well, nice recipe. That’s sad that I can’t use it… Its impossible to find molasses in my country:'(
I want to make this, but with molasses and stevia instead of coconut sugar. Because that’s what I have at home.
I’ve been making these for years (including just a couple weeks ago for Thanksgiving) and everyone loves them. Only use 1/2 tsp clove and they’re still super spicy and delicious (and taste more like ginger than clove)
These look amazing! Definitely gonna try this recipe! Video quality is amazing love it
I looked at the recepie I needed to know if subsututing equal amounts of coconut oil to the butter would work. I made the cookies and yes it did work.
Hi Adriana, just made your yummy ginger biscuits which taste marvellous thank you. We had trouble creaming the butter though so would it be possible to put the sugar in the liquid in lieu of the dry mix. Thanks again and God Bless..Claudia ( in Australia )
Okay. These are brilliant. My first attempt turned out amazing. Love that they stayed soft and chewy, while still firmly holding their shape. I baked these for the full 12 minutes perfecto!
How many cookies does this recipe make and what’s a substitute for ground cloves?
Ghee is ‘clarrified butter’ that’s makes it even more diary….. FYI..
This one’s definitely going onto the cookie tray for gifting this year. A couple of questions could you cream the butter and brown sugar together with a hand mixer, or would that add too much air into the mixture? Also, I frequently make your Molasses Cookies from your Back to Baking cookbook (just made them again yesterday!) and could you use the technique of adding the granulated sugar at the end, as you do with this cookie? Love your cookbooks, love this YT channel. Thanks Anna for all your terrific recipes and clear instructions. I’ve never had a failure with any of your recipes.
Soooo making these this year! Thank you for sharing, Anna!
My favourite is ANY gingerbread cookie or cake!
When we substitute butter to coconut oil does measurement change??
I love the way @AnnaOlson teach us how to bake. And most of all putting the recipe below. Not many bakers do that which is annoying! Thanks you always for the great recipes!
Hi I Love all your recipes I was wondering if I Could use butter instead thank you
Clove is a really strong spice. That was a but much if she is planning on balancing the flavors. I probably would have only used maybe a third of what she put in.
Thank you! I love all the different, delicious cookies I can make from your recipes. The grandkids never get bored, and neither does Grandma! This one is really different and I can’t wait to try it.
Oh, Contessa, you make cooking seem so effortless. These sound oh so delish. I love those spices and a real fan of clove and candied ginger. Thank you for this recipe I am saving it to cookies for Christmas. Thank you so much for your calming influence and the amazing tastes you share. I combined your company pot roast recipe with Ree Drummonds easy pot roast and it got rave reviews. Made the recipe my own and boy was it super enjoyed. Thank you for the joyful impact you make on my life with sharing your gifts.
Hi love your utube channel. Tried twice today with the gingerbread crinkles but they are taking twice as long to cook, gave checked my convection oven temp, also the bottom us still uncooked, winder what I’m doing wrong, any use as. I have the kipfli cooking now fingers crossed I couldn’t get them into a horseshoe design to crumbly, and I couldn’t make even golf if your another query what’s my problem please.
Did she say 1.5 Cups of crystallized ginger? Can that be right? Did she mean 1.5 tbsp?

Thanks for all your recipes I try the Hazel nut cake and it came delicious thank you so much please make more videos I love watching your videos
Love these I will definitely try them! Keep the great recipes coming!
Hi Adriana… what is the best ingredient to replace honey? I can’t have honey/ molasses in my diet..
Too heavy on the cloves. Nobody liked mine at Christmas. Little too much punch.
Hi, you’re amazing! Simply espectacular! The best of the best! What can I replace brown sugar? In Mexico the brown sugar is different than yours.

We made these cookies today and they were so delicious! We also made the sugar cookies and the peanut butter cookies( we also made these with almond butter). I love how easy these were to make, the healthy ingredients and most of all how yummy these were!
Hi,can I use multipurpose flour for this recipe… Plzz reply me
What is a good replacement for almond flour because I’m allergic?
Only problem…this recipe needs to be tripled if you want to have any cookies left after baking!
I’m curious as to why u don’t use a mixer for mixing the dough?
Do u mean bicarbonate soda or baking powder…in Australia…I put baking powder
These are the most delicious cookies I have ever baked….Your recipe is a winner and my whole family loves it!Thank you!
Thank you so much for this =), i have been looking for a grain-free ginger cookie! I will try these for sure, maybe today! Do you have any suggestions for a snicker-doodle variation? I can not wait to try the ginger <3
Fantastic video, geez another one I’ve have to make. Did you see the link i left you on the shortbread cookies. Again great recipes, thanks
going to try this with xylitol or stevia as I cannot have sugars in my diet:)
Can you make healthy roll out sugar cookies? There’re no really good healthy sugar cookies recipe out there, and your recipes are always the Best:) i’m glad to your next video, Best regards, Michele

Lovely as always! Thank you for your lovely recipe it smells of Christmas just thinking of all those flavours… Merry Christmas to All!
Love love love anything ginger….. Will definitely be making these. Ah notice you said “baking soda, not power”. Is there a difference?
I started making gingerbread crinkles and gingerbread whoopie pies in 1994. I also make the chocolate crinkles and I make a lemon crinkle.

Yes gial I love your recipe, looks like a hot cup of coffee would be perfect with that cookie, great for d weather.not to mention I love d piece in creole.
I absolutely adore ginger cookies thanks for sharing. Explained well
I love Ina… she just seems so comforting and warm and soothing and reminds you of that super cool aunt that would take you shopping and then invite you over afterward for sandwiches and tea <3
Just made your classic chocolate chip cookies. Best ever. Makin these next.
Can’t wait to make these this weekend. Are ginger cookies the same as ginger bread cookies?
I’ve never had a gingerbread cookie of any kind. Not sure what it was suppose to taste like or chew like but I didn’t like the texture at all neither did my hubby.
Thank you for all the explanation of why creaming is done, & how to know if the egg should be room temp or not. I am not sure this recipe is any different from a Molasses Crinkle cookie. Except for using powered sugar instead of granulated to roll the cookie in before cooking. Sounds delicious & I will give it a try for sure
Thank heavens for YT bec. I no longer watch TV and I sorely miss FN. We had cable belatedly, in the late 90s. And I remember watching FN, among other select channels, as much as possible. I don’t know much about cooking or baking or being critical of food, I simply loved watching people cook. But I can tell that Ina Garten is quite an expert esp. in making desserts and other sweet foods. Happy holidays!
Hi, these look great. I’m allergic to almonds so can it replaced by any other nut flour?
Do you have a link to your recipe for crystallized ginger? I’d like to make some fresh.
I love the recipe I have for ginger cookies, but now want to try your recipe with the ginger bits.
I make my cookies in a 6.5 inch cast iron skillet. Big cookies chewy on the inside with crispy outside.
OMGosh I’m following right now!! This cookies look so yummy
فهمت كل المقادير ألا السائل الاسود الي اضافته ممكن احد يترجملي اياه

Your dateless chocolate fudge brownies are absolutely Beautiful Adriana!!!!!!!
I am going to try these ginger cookies soon BUT can you come up with a Crunchy version?????? I love your videos Penny x
I’ve just made these and sadly they aren’t wow, a bit too sweet and I was expecting more ginger crunch I think.
My mouth is watering just for watching these cookies, definitely I will try them!!!! Thanks
Thank you Ina for ginger cookies. What else can we use instead of molasses?
Thank you for watching! What’s your favorite holiday cookie?
Recipe looks yummy.. FYI ghee is not dairy free.. it is just clarified butter do you think this would still work with egg replacer??
Does anyone know the brand of spices she was using I was trying to see them but they were all turned backwards
12-11-2019: I made these this morning and WOW!!, they turned out great. So flavorful and moist. TFS! (P.S. I did not add any sugar at the end and they still turned out wonderful.)
All ur cookies luk delish I def wil b trying all uv them. tfs. Stay beautiful
I made these for Thanksgiving and I’m making them again for Christmas. They are THAT GOOD!! Thank You!
I just made them. Been craving molasses cookies & this is definitely a winner
Can we use normal all purpose flour instead of almond flour? Plus instead of coconut sugar can we go with brown sugar?
Adriana, Can I use Ground Almonds for this recipe? instead of almond flour? (flour can be a lot more dry in texture) any other flours that would work also? Many thanks!:)
I always made Ginger Snaps would you roll in sugar and then flick with water to get that crinkly top. So years and years ago I thought why can’t I make this a little bit softer dough and do them like chocolate crinkles and I’ll be damned if they didn’t come out nice!:-). Now they are a Christmas staple.
Hi Anna, Is there a difference between sugary molasses & the liquid one you used?
Could you suggest a chocolate to add to make chocolate flavored ginger bread cookies? Years ago this type of cookie was made and sold in small childsize packaged! Thanks!
Thank u for the recipie please if I don’t have the molasses can I use honey instead if yes how much honey should I use and thanks
New Subscriber here. Your videos look amazing. Havent tried any yet but i will be trying some this weekend and oh these ginger cookies look amazing. They might be the 1st of ur recipes to try even though its not holiday season yet.( I love ginger anything, haha). God bless you for all your work.
what Ingredient I could use instead of fancy molasses?if I couldn’t find it in my country
Can I make cutouts with this recipe or will it spread too much? Thanks!!!
Thanks chef Anna Olson for your recipes. I will bake all that u have shared when I get back home in my country after my retirement. God bless you more.
Love your channel!!! Thank you!!! May I also have your mailing address:-)
Hi, just to clarify is the baking soda you mention, plain bicarbonate of soda, or baking powder (a leavening combination of bicarbonate of soda and tartaric acid)? Cheers
THANKYOU Anna, so Yummy! will def. try this year. this can also be a wonderful gift for family and friends:D
Using 1/4 C ice cream scoop, this recipe makes 2 dozen cookies. They are moist and chewy and beautifully flavored. These have become my go-to ginger cookies.
my cookies came out soft, cake like texture. can anybody tell me what wrong did i do?
Made these and they taste amazing but the crinkles were not that prominent. Maybe because I used dark brown sugar?
Adriana, can I substitute coconut sugar with maple or honey?
Just finished my first attempt at making these ginger crinkle cookies, and they are amazing! Haven’t had anything like it before. 4 cookies disappeared from the cooling rack before I realised I was eating them! Haha. Was able to adapt the recipe to be Coeliac friendly by using gluten free plain flour and a teaspoon of xanthan gum. Thank you for the recipe:D
Anna, I baked these, and the second time, added some very finely chopped stem ginger which really enhanced the ginger flavour well.
I love the texture and taste. of these cookies You explain the recipe so well and thankyou so much for listing the ingredients in grams as well.
I really enjoy your baking sessions, you inspire me to bake! Thankyou, Anna.
Kindest Wishes from New Zealand.
Hi from Paris,
Juste discovered your channel and all those recipes are just a dream for a wonderful Christmas unfortunately my daughter can’t eat that because of her eggs allergies,
My question is if I can substitute the eggs in all your cookies with something else.
Best wishes
Sammy
I don’t know about anyone else but just watching Kaleb make these, made my mouth water, I can almost smell that wonderful orange aroma!
Thank you
Did you do a molasses recipe gluten free biscuit?
Sorry I’m french, do my best for writing ☺️
Delicious! I used treacle as I couldn’t find fancy molasses here in the UK. They went down an absolute treat. I’m looking to adapt the recipe to a chocolate version, excited to see how it turns out. Thanks Anna!
I cannot access the recipe. Your descriptions aren’t expanding!
Mine turned out really dry. I didn’t wanna use honey. Is that why they’re super dry?
Looks good! I would use the black strap over fancy molasses just because I love the strong flavour!
They look soft an delicious, thats definitely a must try on my off, thanks for that hack with the ginger do u thing it will work with cheese too or only vegetables
Those cookies look like heaven and you are such a sweetheart. Subscribed.
Clicked instantly, these are a huge FAVE
Plus, Ina ROCKS.
The warm spices in these cookies are perfect for the holidays. The flavor reminds me so much of “Belizean Bulla”. The fresh ginger in these cookies just takes it to another level. They are so simple and easy to make.
Good morning anna
I hope that everything is going well
Tell me for how many days i can put the cookies dough in the fridge before i use it?
Because i have a party and i wanna make the dough 2 day’s before i bake it.
Hey Adriana, I was wondering if we could replace almond flour with oats flour or coconut flour.
Would be great if you replied.
Thanks
G’day Kaleb! I just had to tell you I made these cookies yesterday and they are DIVINE!!!! I’m so glad I found you on YouTube, I love what you are doing at the Gray Boxwood. I love to be inspired and you are doing just that. Thank you so much! Take care Vicky:)
These look delicious will have to try the recipe out soon.
These look delicious. How can I adjust the recipe to use date paste instead of coconut sugar?
I don’t really understand why do you have less than half a million subscribers? Your recipes are the best!
Never trust a skinny chef. Never ever ever ever ever ever ever ever.
Are you sure that the grated ginger don’t have traces of plastic? Plastic can be harmful…just a thought…
Um, these would be clove cookies. Probably can barely taste the “good” cinnamon let alone the ginger
Loved cookie week so much! I am so excited about making these cookies! What great ideas! Have you ever made vegan gluten free cinnamon rolls? I’m looking for a good recipe?
I didnt know i could cream butter and sugars by handfor some reason i thought you had to use a mixer And is icing sugar the same as powdered sugar?
I dont understand why coconut sugar or honey are better for you than cane sugar ♀️
What a great traditional American recipe. Gingerbread is wonderful for the holidays. Love your direct, intelligent, thorough and efficient style. And love gingerbread. Ty!
I like that you typed the ingredients in the description area
hello, may I use less brown sugar? It seem will be too sweet…
what a great recipe. i really like that she says all the measurements even though they’re on her website.
Since visiting Colonial Williamsburg, I have been looking for a puffy, cake-like ginger cookie recipe! Your final product is what I am looking for. Thank you. Now to adapt it to be gluten free for my family. Have you ever creamed the shortening and sugar before adding the wet ingredients? Or, do you find the pieces of shortening floating after mixing with the wet are part of what make your cookie shape?
Im gonna try this today! how much time do you pre heat the owen?:D thanks!
Really easy recipe to follow and just as Anna says: crispy on the outside and chewy on the inside! However, they were just too sweet for my taste. By how much could the sugar be reduced?
Thank you for all your advice and for posting this recipe.
OMG! Wonderful recipe! I’m so excited to make them for christmas! Thank you for this awesome recipe! Best regards from austria, Michele
Gial and that ginger an grater business, wow I learn somthing new
Hi love your recepi,, can you make orange cookies
Please gluten free
Thank ypu
The crystalized candied ginger ruins these cookies. It just sticks to your teeth and really takes away from an already perfect gingersnaps cookie.
A soft cookie. I must try it. Here in Denmark Our Cookies normaly have to be crunchy. Just found your channel. So glad I did.
Hi chef… What is the substitute for molasses? I don’t think I have it in my city..
I made these cookies today, and they are sooo delicious! I wouldn’t change a thing. I used Grandma’s brand molasses. Yes, they are sweet—it’s a cookie! Eat just one! This recipe is going into my “favorites” file.
I tried this recipe yesterday it was amazing thank you so much
I can tell you are passionate about baking because as the ingredients come together you smile at the dough. It gives you such joy! Been a big fan of yours for a long time! Thanks for sharing your recipes. I will definitely be making this one this holiday season!
Why was the flour not sifted before measuring? Maybe it was?
I like Ginger Cookies so much, reminds me of my childhood Thank you for this lovely video
The only thing I would do different is cut the sugar in half. My mother taught me many yrs. ago that sugar will not effect the produce.
Ooooooh, these sound wonderful! Lover gingerbread and ginger cookies, so these will be a favorite, I’m sure.
Thank you for sharing! See the world? It’s time to repent of all of our sins, accept Jesus Christ as our personal Savior, and study God’s Word to show ourselves approved.

Amazing and healthy!! Certainly gonna make it! Can I use flaxseed powder instead of the egg? Thanks so much!
what i like even better than rolling my ginger crinkle cookies in sugar before baking is coating the tops afterward instead in a simple confectioner’s glaze (confectioner’s sugar, vanilla, enough water to make the right consistency to dip cooled baked cookies in). yum!!
I’m so glad she didn’t use really bad cinnamon. phew that was close!
I have been looking for this recipe!

Looks good can I substitute shortening for butter and will they be just as soft
I’m having some issues with this recipe if someone can help me!! First time I made it they came out perfect, just like Anna’s, I just made them again and this time I noticed the dough came out very sticky and felt less dense? After baking this time they came out really flat and wide!!! Where as my first time trying this recipe they were nice and thick… any ideas what could have went wrong? I followed the recipe completely and I creamed the sugar and butter until smooth and light in colour!
Sounds delicious. I don’t have cardamom, but I have a cardamom tea. Could I substitute?
I love the information-packed way you bake! Consider me subscribed
I forgot the white sugar at the end and they’re still way too sweet…cut it back imo
can I use piping bag instead of scooping the dough please?
These look really good!!!! Are there any suggestions for a substitute for the coconut sugar? I am currently on a candida diet and every bit of sugar will make me sick and break out with eczema.
I love orange anything. I’m more of a bar cookie kinda guy. Wonder if batter could be baked then cut In to 2×4 bars before glazing?
These are delicious, but sadly my icing sugar melted away & no crinkle occurred. Not sure what I did wrong.
Adriana, your videos are well made. You explain things clearly and you speak nicely. Thanks:-)
Anna, what is the substitute for fancy molasses? It’s difficult to find molasses in my country. Thanks for your help!
I’ve made these cookies twice and they are absolutely delicious! So nice and chewy on the inside and crispy on the outside…. now a really new addition to my Christmas baking and sharing! Hi, what healthy option can be used instead of almond flour to make it nut free? Grain option is fine. I want to try making these for my little boy who started nursery and nuts are absolute no there. TIA.

Looks like a fabulous cookie recipe I am going to give this a try this weekend. Thanks so much for sharing. Cheers Denise:)
