Most people in small communities will be pleased to see hikers again. But there will be some people will be scared of hikers and other strangers especially if they knew a person who died.
I want to jog man but this dumb virus is basically airborne. I haven’t worked out in 2months and exercising wasn’t stress reliever from depression. I’m screwed now because I hate staying home
If this park is closed why would you advertise people to trespass? Or can we still go out & run in this park because I’ve tried Mission Bay & I was kicked off.
Honest question: have you ever seen a Sasquatch while out hiking?
I wish there were more parks with tables downtown where I could sit and do some art or writing.
The parks that do have tables are too far away for me to walk to.
I feel for you guys who live in states where the trails are closed. Today was 65 F and sunny; I was doing a local day hike on the Finger Lakes Trail this morning and the fairly remote section of trail I was hiking was PACKED with day hikers and their canine family members. I’ve never seen it this popular on that section in at least the 3 or 4 years I’ve been hiking it. Trail sawyer work crews haven’t been out, but some of the local individual maintainers tell me that they’ve have been doing some minimal level of maintenance work. Many of our local hikers post to an email list serv and they report similar conditions on the trails they were on today. Hope that your trails re-open soon. There is absolutely NO reason to have trails closed as summer is upon us. Virus or not.
There are some really stupid PCT hikers spreading their junk in the desert right now.
If people believe this dumb junk I feel so bad for you I’m gonna squeeze my wife
Yes it is safe to go for a walk either alone or with your immediate family members, and it is safe to go camping in a national or provincial park because the govwrnment of Canada knows nothing. It is all about control.
I gave it a dislike thumbs-down I’m blind I can’t read it I need to hear it we do have the Technologies for voice recording on cheaper than having somebody sitting down and typing it
So it’s safe to go outside without a mask if you’re asymptomatic even though the virus can be airborne for up to 3 hours. OK
I don’t have corona and I’ll be damned if they tell me I can’t go outside, are they going to arrest me? FFS…
Is it safe to read the irresponsibly alarmist news during a pandemic??
I cycle to work every night, have done for the last 5 years or more 5 nights a week, I thought I would try something new so I started jogging a few months ago, gave that up after getting injured a lot!!! First: shin splints then Archillis Tendon VERY painful. So tried walking and now after getting into it for a couple of months I’ve been having VERY painful Anterior Ankle Infringement, I’ve read it can take up to 12 months to heal. Even though I love walking sooooooo annoying I’ll have to stop that for a while as it says it can get worse and may need surgery if you carry on with walking. When I cycle and use my magnetic bike at home no injuries whatsoever so I’ll have to stick to that for the time being.
The trail maintenance thing good idea I will be taking my saws and possibly and axe with me to remove as I go!
stupid hikers. These people act like they will die if they cannot hike or go outside. So dumb! Just lay around eat and get fat.
Hi Fran, are you aware that most trails are NOT actually closed? This is from Zach Urness of the Statesman Journal:
Hiking and mountain biking
All trailheads are closed in national forests — meaning the places where people typically park to access a trail.
However, you are allowed to park elsewhere — including a forest road where you’re not blocking traffic — and access a trail for hiking or mountain biking.
“Blocking, or impeding, vehicle traffic or damaging natural resources may result in citation and/or towing,” McMillan said.
That means you could park on a forest road and hike or bike to a trailhead to access the trail, McMillan said. Or it could mean accessing a trail that parallels a road. The idea is to keep people from clustering in one area.
So there it is. You can still hike, but don’t park at trailheads.
Love your channel!
Love your videos, however years ago I asked about trail maintenance to the zig zag ranger station. The rangers told me I cannot cut logs blocking the trail, if caught I’d be fined. their reason was preventing unauthorized trail maintenance. I was referring to the trails heading to Ramona falls. So maybe you have updated info, but id caution people taking trail maintenance in their own hands. We all want to, love hike Oregon!
I’m more worried than a hiker because i’m a hitchhiker so i have to pay atention if the car/truck who will catch me it’s clean or even probabilities to one to give me a ride will be low ☹
I only have one big trip planned this year but it’s later in the year. I don’t plan on doing any hiking this year other than that. Just going to be too difficult this year. Any trails are going to be overrun with people I think as they still are pretty limited in what they can do. 2020 is going to be a bust…
I have to telework and only went outside for an hour for one day. I needed to leave my room. I’m usually in my room. I’m starting to hang out in the living room, now.
I suspect that trail shelters, which are plentiful here on the East Coast, especially along the AT, will be closed to hikers for the foreseeable future.
Went for a hike today, first time we hit the trails this year. The trailhead parking was open which was surprising since we were expecting to have to road park and walk to the trailhead. Felt amazing to get out there and I could feel my anxiety and depression from the last few weeks melt away a little. Mental health is super important and I think the risks are honestly higher in Portland Metro Area since we only saw two other hikers the whole time.
Great video! Many of these things I had not considered. Thanks!
Last week I did a hike way out in Troy, Oregon and was only one of three people on the trail. (one of the few trails still open in Oregon a 400 mile drive from Portland)
