Thoughts on NSCA and their certifications Marc? Thanks again for these informative videos!
Hey bro if you serious about your willingness too teach someone who is trying too learn I’m all ears new too the industry I want too learn as much as I can
Would getting the NSCA cert be great for training the high intensity athletes?
Thank you for your story. Currently finishing up ISSA and NASM is next. Like you, I started under a Mentor at a Power Lifting Gym… appreciated!
Never mind I saw your comment below about ISSA. Fred Hatfield who is very well educated and was a great Powerlifter wrote the book. It’s not NCAA accredited but it’s DETC which is College recognized for distance learning. Yes it’s an open book test but they have 6 essays and 2 practical scenarios were you have to devise a program based on the clients health and other paramaters. It’s a test on applying the knowledge from the textbook. You can’t get that from going back and looking it up. I was also looking into the NSCA. From what I read the ISSA text is dense with useful info. I guess it all depends on the person and how they study and the dedication they put into getting the Certification. I bet some people who are ISSA Certified blow away Trainers who are NSCA certified. Just my humble opinion.
i want to get certified i been in fitness industry for years i just want improve even more
I got certified through http://www.pteliteuk.com! The quality of training was second to none, we covered everything from anatomy, business principles, first aid, exercise and movement based modules and lots more. I was quite surprised with the amount of stuff we needed to know as a PT actually. I finished with an industry recognized certificate and got a job straight away. Super happy with my new career, its the most rewarding job ever!
This video is BS. Personal training is highly unregulated and anyone can call themselves a personal trainer or nutritionist. Misleading clients about your scope of practice is unethical and immoral. You can’t compare a certification to a college degree. It’s like the blind leading the blind. Your trainer is whack.
What do you think about the100% online and self-paced NASM Certified Personal Trainer and Exam Preparation program (Voucher Included) with Northshore Technical Community College? Is this a good way to become a Personal Trainer?
I’m not surprised that they are tue hardest they have some of the highest prerequisite especially for the SC exam.
Heck yeah, Superdry is one of my favorite brands of clothing
This is hands down the best information on personal training
I love this! Currently 19 years of age, I’m already training people locally In Orlando, Florida but I’m striving to become a certified personal trainer right now through ace Or NASM while going to school for a degree in kinesiology. The best field, can’t wait

I want to be a basketball trainer and im dedicated to put in the work any advice or tips to help me bring value to clients?
Hello Coach: I am a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner. I would like to incorporate fitness into my practice, as we now know scientifically that physical exercise can help alleviate disorders in mental health. I am not interested in training people in a gym perse, but I would like to advise them appropriately. Would you recommend a certification? If so, which certification? In healthcare, credentials matter (but with this, I don’t know).
Hey man i just watched your video and honestly i think you’re giving advices but the things this days no one want to work hard everybody is looking for the short that’s a fake experience… i love what u doing. Hey how’s it going my name is William Collier and my question for you has to do with a pre-existing injury of Mine 2 years ago I broke my C6 and C7 and damage my spinal cord severely I’ve regained all Mobility and just suffer from nerve pain and neck pain but I still get a lot of pain from my ligaments that were torn in the back of my neck and I was wondering if you had some advice on some exercises like resistance bands Etc that I could do to strengthen my neck and help keep my range of motion I’ve tried asking doctors but they just tell me to do nothing which is obviously not the thing to do.
thank you
Dont go back to school just to be a cert trainer. Atleast dont do it for the money. No reason to spend thousands on college courses to be sometjing that pays 14-18 bucks an hour.
Thank you for this informative video. May i ask your opinion about AFAA certification?
Aerobics and Fitness Association of the America?
Anyone got any tips for 1 on 1 football (soccer) coaching and how to get into it. I’ve tried searching it up and there aren’t that many helpful videos or websites about this topic.

I recently became a trainer. I was hesitant to leave my job because I was afraid I wouldn’t be able to make enough money. I had a friend who was a trainer and helped me get started. He’s been a trainer for a long time and I know he makes good money… probably around $100K.
He helped guide me, and I’m so glad because I’ve been doing pretty good as a trainer and making enough money to replace my job!
He has a website for trainers. It’s http://www.TheSixFigureTrainer.com
What is your thoughts on the NCCA Action Personal Trainer and Advanced Nutrition Certification offerings? I am a culinary educator by day and first responder (firefighter/medic) by night via volunteer and pt career. I am always looking to enhance my crews nutrition and physical fitness abilities and we are always challenging each other. I am also looking to help others who are post-gastric bypass get into a routine and those just starting out on a fitness journey. Thanks for the input.
Has any of the content changed from the 4th edition to the 6th edition? Tryng to figure out if it’s the same material said in a different way before I purchase a book.
I love your comment You right getting a Personal Certification is not enough Education is just a small foundation and needs to be more than 2 days. Im a Personal Trainer and I do have certification but I know is not enough.
I just want the knowledge to be able to train correctly, gain experience, and eventually run my own business.
Hey man, really enjoy your videos. I was certified many years ago (still have the NASM 3rd edition book) but then I got a job somewhere else and never became a trainer. Now, I have an opportunity to become a trainer and I’m looking to re-certify (at my friend’s studio. He doesn’t care about a cert, but I would like to have one anyway). I guess budget is my main concern now. Do you feel NASM is still the way to go for the budget concious? Would the 3rd edition NASM book be sufficient for today’s exam?
Hi……..Can you tell me the best certification in this options: NSCA,NASM,ACE,NSCF?
Very good video sir! My buddy and I were thinking of working for a certification. He actually started NASM. Me on the other hand I do want a certification but I don’t desire to work in a gym because I’m Active Duty military so training would be like a side hustle.
NASM has a hands on element in terms of an internship Pat with a job guarantee in 90 days after getting your certificate so please get your information correct mr. Lubliner
I was wondering which certification to get. I asked three gyms and they gave me three different answers. I was searching online for a solid answer and I decided on NASM based on this site: It’s http://www.TheSixFigureTrainer.com
I narrowed it down to ACE, NASM, and ACSM … and I decided on NASM once I did a little research.
There are some great articles here about building your personal training business, and along with helping me choose my certification, I’m also deciding on the right gym for my business.
Hey dude i’m 15 and personal training has peeked my intrest i enjoy learning about all the stuff in my own time and go out of my way to learn it, it’s one of the few things i enjoy learning about, anyway what classes do you think i should take in highschool to help with this and do you think i should pick up one of those books from amazon to get some knowledge?
Great video! I just uploaded one myself going over many options out there and this was inspiring!
Jonathan, I thought I seen s program you offered for purchase to help thru with study the NASM book and quizzing to pass the exam. I can’t find it in the home page of my account to purchase.
bruh, straighten your certs in the background haha OCD nightmare!
Thanks for the advice. I was certified years ago but was during the Recession, so decided to pursue other things. It wasn’t one of the prestigious certs, either, though it was decent…Now, I just finished my Bachelor’s degree, and want to get a certification again!.. I think I’m leaning towards going straight into trying to get a NSCA CSCS cert. My question to you: in your opinion, would that material, exam, and prepare me for training the typical and/or average personal training clients I would see in a regular gym, in addition to preparing me for training athletes and such?.. Thanks for your honest opinions in the video, hope to hear back from you
I need help with 2 questions please!
*Do I need any background education to start these? Like a high school diploma?
*Do I have to pay the full total amount from the beginning or are their payment options?
Thanks in advance!
Thanks so much man. I was leaning towards NASM anyway because that’s like the first link when you google the certifications. I have been lifting for years and thought… why not make money doing fitness which I love and am already very familiar with. It does say we need CPR certification in order to get the NASM certification. Any information on that? where to go, how much it costs, how long does it take to get it? etc.
Sir which certification is best to get the personal trainer Job in the united states?..(I’m pankaj from india) just suggest me the best one..
Thanks

amazing insights. more blessings, peace and prosperity to everyone!
Anyone know anything about the Expert Rating Personal Training program?
I know this video is older but thanks so much for this video.
Im getting started in personal training and am trying to learn as much as I can, I was thinking about ISSA because it seems like it would teach me the best because of how the courses are broken down. What do you think of ISSA, and obviously I want to get paid alot when I start.
I’m currently pregnant and will be starting to work with a personal trainer at my gym. Wondering what kind of trainer I should ask for. Can you give me any recs? I’m guessing they should have a degree in exercise science at least. Thanks.
I recently passed the ISSA cpt exam. I’ve been involved in exercise my entire life. I’m also a nursing school drop out (personal reasons ). I’ve been a Kickboxing instructor for 4 years and have travelled to Thailand on multiple occasions to practice Muay Thai, but I wanted to grow by learning and doing more(in a sense of being able to help more than just myself when in and outside of the gym) I’m also in the midst of ISSA’s Strength and conditioning specialization as well as their Sports nutrition specialization. I honestly did not expect to be learning as much as I am from the material provided, and I am glad that I am. I’m not sure if you’ve personally seen any of the material provided by the ISSA, but I am curious as to how you would chalk it up to material taught in college. Yes I understand that several months of self study may not be equal to 4 years of college, however in different fields(computer science for example) I’ve seen many people come out with a CS degree and can’t do jack, compared to a self taught person who’s been extremely invested and hands on be a lot more knowledgeable. Being a kickboxing instructor for 4 years I’ve had the opportunity to assist and teach varying ages from 10-65+, from varying exercise levels of being consistent to never exercising in their life. With conditions such as asthma, diabetes, scoliosis, vertigo, bad knees, bad backs, etc. I am not insinuating that this is the case, my general question is do you feel that a person dedicated enough to their studies can over time( in my case with the information from ISSA as well as all the hands on experience I’ve had thus far) be as knowledgeable as someone who’s gone to college for Sports Science?
I feel like this is one of those fields where if you’re a go getter, you’ll do exceptionally well and if you’re a quiet introverted dude, you’ll never get anywhere
Do u pay for the certificate after u pass the test? Or do you pay before u take the test?
Hi……..Can you tell me the best certification in this options: NSCA,NASM,ACE,NSCF?
New subscriber here! Hi, thanks for the great content. I have a conundrum though. I was going to go with ACSM, but seeing as I have a b.a. in psychology, it seems to suite me best to go for the c.s.c.s. But, when I look at employment opportunities, it seems all the CSCS jobs I come across require I ALSO have a masters degree in a related field. What would your suggestion be? Thanks!
in Nasm exam, are they only ask multiple choice question? or short answer long answer??
i am a physical therapist in india as i have completed my bachelors degree a year ago and m planning for moving to Canada on a study visa and took 1 yr diploma in health and human services but i want to continue my education in athletic training so what wud be the best option for me
Hey Coach Brian,
Two questions do you do online or personal consultations I have been battling what I believe to be muscle/function issue causing back issues? Second question, I have been debating a career change and probably would go back to school for functional training do you recommend any certification as say an entry level to help a beginner in the field to see if it is something I might enjoy?
What would you suggest to get certified if I want to train at a private owned gym and also provide online training?
What a great and genuine video! Needed to hear this. I’ve been taking my ace exam just to have it under my belt. But. I do wanna be known more than just a personal trainer
Impressed by your interview skills, T. You directed the convo and had a great lineup of questions.
I’m currently interested in this field as a part-time pursuit, so I particularly enjoyed hearing Jimmy’s advice about finding your niche.
Please follow up with a video on San Francisco’s VR gym I’d love to hear about their programs, a first-time user’s experience, and how they think their model is the future of physical fitness.

what do you think about Acsm cpt not the peace of paper but the info compared to NSCA and Nasm?
This guy is awesome. Everything I found out over years is in this one video. i wish I saw this from day 1 of being a PT.
NSCA and ACSM are the industry standard, they are Non-Profit. To work in major league sports you need to be a NSCA-CSCS.
Although it’s a long time since you uploaded this video, I wanted to ask whether it’s possible to take higher studies only on bodyweight exercises or movements (particularly calisthenics and athletics). And eventually build career in it? Subscribed by the way
I am planning to start physical therapy school soon. I am also interested in acquiring knowledge when it comes to human performance and fixing injuries. Which certifications would you advise someone in my position?
What I’m hearing is youre an awesome trainer…but have little understanding of business 101…or financial responsibility. From a business stand point if someone can pay a few hundred dollars and get certified in a weekend, then start working immediately… Thats the smart business decision. Going back to school is horrible boomer era advice.
Main take away for those who don’t wanna read.
Personal training just boils down, to sales, clients don’t care about certs.
I have nasm, and issa, I have over 10+ certs(from both nasm and issa), but Nasm is industry standard, and over rated, I think ISSA have a better price point, and better content. I would Say nasm cpt gets you in the door, and issa is more geared towards, anatomy and bodybuilding stuff people care about. NASM does a better job with sports conditioning, Exos is relatively new and the same with cross fit. I work at lifetime and they still want those trainers to get a nasm. Exos is on my wishlist for certs, but my top three would be nsca, Nasm, and ISSA.
Keep in mind, not matter what cert you have if you work for a corporate gym theres always a glass ceiling in terms of what you get paid.
Also commercial gyms are not ideal, in terms of having a crossfit or exos cert, because the clientele with be primarily weight loss.
Also athlete and college kids come in with programming their coaches gave them and don’t if you can out sprint them or out bench, or clean them.
I work for lifetime so its a more diverse clientele, but a lot of gear heads, who just care about moving weight, with shitty form.
I would get different certs from different places just to add to my knowledge, but pay is not significantly affected, at life time, and xsport it mattered. But shopping around for different opportunities personal training just boils down to sales.
Dear, Can i know why the IFBB ACADEMY is not mentioned between the others??? As I heard it’s an international academy as well??
Just to know.
Thank you
U said that you’re moving out of the personal training space, what are u transitioning to?!
Hello sir.
I done my ACE cpt
And EREPS(European registered exersise professionals) and more other personal training certification.
And i work as s personal trainer in last five years.
Now i decide to do NSCA CSCS Certification.
It good thing for me sir, can u suggest me.
i am worry about this certification because i done my batchelors in mechanical engineering not in exercise and sports science.
I know it’s not quite the same but in a similar field. I’m a college student studying to become an athletic trainer. How do you recommend getting internships and experience with work that will be similar or help build a resume if you don’t have any degree in the field yet?
Hiii Sir I am from India. I want to do a personal certification course. I am confused with so many academies.please let me know about which academy is best for the personal fitness and sports nutritionist certification.
How do i apply for nsca cscs certification what’s the procedure?
What do you think of the expert rating personal training certification
This is very ironic because some of the worst trainers I’ve encountered had degrees in exercise science. There’s great Cscs coaches and there are shitty ones. Can’t generalize things and put everyone in the same category.
I have a Masters in Electrical Engineering and am looking to branch out and get out of the engineering field. I am looking at NASM. NASM seems to be the best one i have read about and researched. I have Kinesiology and biomechanics classes under my belt that i took as part of my master for bio-electric engineering. Does NASM inlcude any nutrition certifications?
Agreed. I did Cooper cus that’s what my dad did, but it required an in person workshop back then whereas mine was online only.
Now these NASM trainers get all the jobs, and honestly I’m not impressed with the technique they let their clients slide with, sometimes even dangerous form. I’ve learned honestly a lot from watching YouTube (but professionals, not random fitspo people), but where I live it doesnt seem people value that level of service. It seems dominated by people who talk a good game but don’t necessarily understand what they’re doing.
I just got the CSCS today, and I’m wondering where to start as far as getting my career going.
You said you’re interested in mentoring, I’m a South Floridian and I’m trying to become a genuine personal trainer and would love to learn
Have you ever heard of AAPTE? If you have what are your thoughts
Hello, how can I purchase the textbooks (for knowledge) only instead of paying for certification? Where / how can I buy them, how did you?
Thank you so much for making this video! I’ve been racking my brain trying to find ways to mix my passion with a job/career and this insight was priceless. I feel now, that I have heard from a real person that isn’t found on some obscure forum that I don’t know if I should believe. Fantastic video!
Thank you! I have worked out for over the thirty years and at 61 I feel confident I know what I’m doing to help myself.I have decided to be a certified personal trainer and like Nasm certification.I want to work with. The general population so I feel like NASM certification will give me a good working knowledge. Any feed back you can give I would appreciate! Thanks Donnie
Have you heard of NCSF? What are your opinions? Thanks for the video.
Hey Coach Brian, not sure if you are still responding to this thread but I need your guidance. I’m a CSCS and am interested in earning the CISSN cred, I’ve bought the essentials book by Jose Antonio, other than this what else can I do to be fully prepared. I have a 6-7 month timeline and am from an anatomy and physical education background with little to no experience in biochemistry.
Passed the NASM exam on the 10th of November. Gonna turn in a resume tomorrow.
Your videos have been really helpful, hopefully I can put this knowledge to work soon!
Hi Brian, howdy..
I am glad to find a mentor like you.
I am a Gold’s certified trainer in India, have the basic knowledge about what was covered under this certification.
I want to move to some foreign country preferably Canada.
Can you help me to know the scope there and which further certification will be required.
I am planning to promote boot camp kind of workouts to Target majority at once.
What say..?
Do you think a cert is completely necessary for online coaching? I’m unsure
I’ve watch two of this guy’s videos and both times he left topic to talk bad about personal trainers. I know it’s sucks but stop being but hurt. Not watching g any more of these vids
Hi! awesome videos! Do you recommend reading front and back the NASM fourth edition and it can help me pass the current 2020 NASM cert exam? Thank you!
I’d really appreciate if you would reply I have question do you need to be 18 to be a certified trainer im 17 could I do a pt course?
How do i apply for nsca cscs certification what’s the procedure?
I have my bachelors degree in sports science.Which is the best certification I can get to become better, acquire more knowledge and be more valuable in the market place?
It really diminishes the people who have gone to college and studied and worked hard, I did a level 2 and 3 diploma with additional modules and I studied and did coursework for 4 hours a day 6 days a week for 2 years and 2 hours practical practice every day again for 2 years since then I’ve gained 7 additional class and training qualifications my colleagues did a month long or 2 week course and havent done any professional development since then and there on the same wage and are considered equal to myself half of them are outright dangerous the other half only know as much as they can Google in 5 minutes
What are the major differences between strength coach and PT I want to do speed and agility and boot camp things I also want to work in a gym while in college to pay off college. Should I be a PT or SC if Speed and Agility and drills are my interest.
If you’re not vegan, what do you really know about nutrition? Just cause you wasted lots of years in school doesn’t mean everyone else should lol.
These ‘quick fix’ PT courses do a great disservice to the industry as a whole. When I took my Personal Training/Nutrition Diploma with YMCAFit (UK), it took 18 months in total. Many of these ‘quick’ courses don’t even require you to do your practicals face-to-face; you can simply make a video of yourself and a ‘client’ in a gym and then upload it for assessment.
Great video, got a ton of information from here. Thanks a lot.
it doesn’t mean that you are a qualified MS in sports science and it means you know how to train. What matters in Training clients is all about delivering pt sessions. There is a difference between being able to deliver and having a degree but full of theory and not good at delivering after all university degrees are mostly theory based not practical.
Ortho-kinetics, resistance training specialist, and muscle activation techniques. While they are very specific to corrective strategies, I’d put them up against any very u mention here.
do the exos courses have to be online or can it be a location to attend? because I wasn’t able to find a location to go to on the website
Any thoughts on the ACSM cert? I thought it was considered to be the most science based.
where do u live because i would love to learn from you after i complete NASM
what are your thoughts on ISSA certification? I recently got certified through it
What is your opinion on NCSF? I was always passionate about gym, helping people, sharing my little knowledge etc. But took my engineering career as a priority (cause my parents said so ).
After 8 years of lifting “for myself” I want to expand in what I really enjoy doing and it is to educate people on fitness and nutrition and I want to get the best possible certificate without going back to school thank you!
Hey Coach, it’s such a coincidence I came across your video. Back here in India it’s crazy how Personal Trainers who don’t know the first thing about science based Trainer are charging ridiculous amounts of money for their services, the main reason being lack of public awareness. I have a bachelor’s in Physical Education and am prepping for the CSCS. Will definitely be following you guys.
Awesome video with a ton of good information from @builtbyjimmy. Amazing job from you both.
wearing clothes made in China that you bought because they were cheap.
I love your work and I would love to be mentored for you how do I reach you personally?
Do you work with any strength coaches that are certified under NSCA? Would love to see a comparison between the two before I decide which certification agency to get with.
I’m currently doing a bachelor of sports and exercise science and was wondering if that degree is enough to start being a personal trainer or if I need something else on top to start training people
It’s also annoying that there are women and men on YouTube who “know how to work out” “I’m kinda funny I can make a persona”. They get thousands of views and rake in so much money and sponsors when they know nothing deeper about actual health and fitness. It’s so bogus. I truly respect you and others who are true and more than just a bandwagon “this is a lifestyle” gimmick of a YouTuber.
Not sure if this has been asked or not, but do you recommend the whole NASM program or just purchasing the book?
I highly recommend if you are looking for a certification to work in a commercial gym get NASM! I’m NASM cpt certified and make a bit more money than other trainers with other certifications. Also Every gym will accept NASM trainers
CSCS actually is a personal training certification, also. In fact it was the first one in the industry. It just is not confined to just the average person. It mainly is designed for training athletes (in a team setting or individually), but is also fit for training average people. It does not fully cover all of the issues you will encounter with the general population which their NSCA-CPT is designed to do.
I agree with johnathan. I have both ace and Nasm. I would leaned towards Nasm more because I like their assessments and their approach to correcting a lot of muscle imbalances. I have their ces and pes as well. I found that the ces was helpful and the pes was like simpler version of the cscs book 4th ed.
Hi. Thanks for sharing this video! I’m going to take fitness program at one of the biggest college in Toronto. My first goal to work in fitness industry is to start my career as a personal trainer in Canada but I’m not native English speaker. Language barrier could be kinda disadvantage for me at some points even if graduate from the college and get certificate and get a job. Do you have any opinions or tips for a personal trainer who are not native English speaker and I want you to share the experience with those people if you have. I’m enjoying your videos. Thank you.
im just a bigginer and i want to work in gym, i want to have an idea how to become a personal trainer / instructor
Being a six figure $ trainer is NOT some justification that this guy is an authority. He works in SF. If he had six figures working in an area that can’t support paying $100-$200+/ hr, then sure.
Any real trainer would make it clear that as far as being a trainer, being a certified one is a must. Non-certified trainers not only can get people hurt, but they potentially give a negative reputation to the profession. But what certification you seek depends on your goals—do you want to work for yourself or for a gym? Gyms WILL care what certification you have. Otherwise, he’s correct that most clients won’t have any idea one way or the other.
He is right about how long it can take clients and how important it is to discover exactly what your niche is, but even more so (if you want to be independent), you need to discover who your ideal client is. Once you know who your ideal client is, discover their “pain point.” The pain point is the problem they have that you can help them with.
Hey Can you please tell me that if I don’t have any certification right now. Is it possible that when I come over there and get my certifications through CAnfitpro and then start my career or I do need to have some sort of experience in this field before applying for jobs as a personal trainer in Canada? So do you think if I don any certifications here from India will that be helpful when I reach there? I spoke to Goodlife PTrecruiter and they’re like they don’t accept any online courses or certifications and it has to be in class or practical
I am from canada do ya know if MCFS is also reckinized or would I be better in one of the 2 organizations ya listed? Thx.
10 ACE CPT’s dislike this video.
Thank you so much for this video, sir!
Thanks the video!! Taking my test this month. I’ve been putting off this test for a while as I’m nervous to fail but I can’t wait to start changing peoples lives for the better! Gotta get back to studying
Hi Coach Brian could you please give me your input on NSCF cert? I know two people who have it and they are great trainers and I have mentored under them for three years now. Im aware that could be considered anecdotal so as I’ve been doing my research and keep hearing most about NASM and ACE. We train the general population but with an emphasis boxing as we have three fighters with winning records. Any insight you can give into NSCF would greatly appreciated sir, thank you.
I’m only 18 but age dont matter right? The sooner the better. I love to work out but not study hard. But I guess if I want this to be my career imma have to study
Are you still able to use the fifth edition to pass the NASM exam?
Hi Brian! I know it is fairly new but what do you think about Actions cpt? It was accredited by ncca in 2014.
Thank you in advance,
JW
dont ever talk about ur income on youtube tv etc ur client should know better put u on the spot by asking u here as we trainers know this is mostly cash business
You think getting certified and working as a trainer is the way to go? Don’t fool yourselves. The average trainer at any gym or health club averages $8-12 per session.
Everyone go check out “Ignite the Fire” by Jonathan Goodman #gamechanger
Brian,
I respect your academic pursuits and successes. In an ideal world, it they have the means, I do feel that all aspiring and current trainers should never stop educating themselves. I definitely think that you have every right to be upset that you had to compete with individuals who didn’t put in the sweat equity and years of schooling like you did.
I actually am looking into switching my major; I have been in Business Administration, part-time, for about 2 years and I have realized that I was in the program for the wrong reasons. I want to switch to kinesiology or something related. I have a passion towards strength sports and getting a barbell into the hands of men, women, children, regardless of socioeconomic status, gender expression, identity, etc. I’d want a certification that heavily leans towards strength sports; NSCA would be ideal, but I do not have my bachelor’s.
I struggled somewhat with this video only because I felt that it was a bit biased-I didn’t really walk away from watching this, feeling like I got a decent, deep-dive explanation as to why I should consider other PT certifications. You made a brief comment on ACE, NASM, and one other reputable/well-known cert, but I could tell that viewers were pushed to still get their degree.
I’ve seen a few comments echoing this question -any thoughts on the NCSF? I am looking into the personal training/strength & conditioning package that they offer. I’d like to couple this with a degree (eventually).
Thank you!
You guys are the real deal and have learned so much from your channel. I have a NASM certification do you have any contacts in the Las Vegas area that could be a mentor other than your wonderful, informative channel. Thanks for all the great videos and information!
nice info.I’ve been working as a gym instructor for more than 20yrs now,but I dont have any of this certs.I started as competitive body builder.I’d to get a certification say NASM.How long will it take to get the cert.and which website should I trust?I appreciate your effort..
Your shirt is funny! True story. New sup I like your honesty. I’m too cynical when it comes to all education! Its ridiculous. Now does the book cost 1000 or the actual test?
Ain’t nobody finishing NASM CPT in 2 days or a weekend lol. They give you 6 months to study to prepare before taking the exam.
I never graduated highshool. I want to be a fitness trainer. Do I have to have a diploma to do so? I got certified in MA and CNA. I’m 41 always workedout for years and I know a lot about counting macros and eating healthy.. I really want to do something I enjoy doing and take a passion in helping others reach their goals.. Can you please help me to figure out which cert I would need and if I have to have a diploma or GED to do so? Thank You
I need help with 2 questions please!
*Do I need any background education to start these? Like a high school diploma?
*Do I have to pay the full total amount from the beginning or are their payment options?
Thanks in advance!
Thanks for your honest opinions in the video, hope to hear back from you
Just starting my CPT with NASM. I’m searching for content just like this. Fantastic. Thank you SO much.
Deadlifting with a rounded UPPER back is perfectly acceptable and is a more advanced lifting technique. People throwing out a blanket statement of rounding your back on deadlift being dangerous are the kinds of people you SHOULDNT listen to. He probably thinks arching on bench is unhealthy too.
Sir I’m from India and I’m a poor guy, I can’t afford the book can u plz send me tha NASM book’s PDF……plzzzzz
This ACE PT probably has made at most 200k at one stage when he was working balls to the wall. This man probably works 6-7 days per week and in excess of 60 hours per week. Don’t let the correlation of the high dollar amount and the job title fool you. It is hard work and not “easy money”. I thought I’d point this out there because of the title and feel like it wasn’t really pointed out in the video. Not trying to put down the video, I thought it was a great interview and Jimmy sounds like he really is passionate about his work. I am currently studying for my ACE exam and will be aiming to revolutionize the way training happens in my own way. I think I am among the few that are studying at a college for this particular exam as I see a lot more people doing this Certification via online and on their own. I totally relate with Jimmy when I see those PT’s that are there just to count and don’t have their heart in on it or aren’t client focused.
So, I’ve watched all four of your review videos on ACE, NASM, NSCA and this one. And I am torn between whether NSCA or NASM is a better choice for me. I am a registered dietitian and I help people with the gamut of health problems (HIV, Diabetes, Obesity, Lupus, Arthritis, Hypertension, etc.). I’m looking to expand my scope of practice by becoming a PT with a long term goal of eventually going into private practice. I will likely start getting some basic experience in PT at a gym first… any thoughts on the certification in this scenario? Thanks for all your advice!
How is the work life balance as a fitness trainer? It is important to me to maintain my freedom as well as make money. I quit my 9-5 because it felt like I lived at work rather than with my family.
You just inspired me to finally just make the purchase and stop waiting for the right time to chase my dream, I appreciate you man!
Very well said!
I highly appreciate the way you have guided people here.
I wish to know if I can study on my own and write the exam, or can I study it on line
Do i need work visa for getting part job in a canadian gym as an international student? Plzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz reply sis
In the field of Information Technology, if I were to get a CompTIA certification (or Microsoft, Cisco, etc), I would need to either recertify in the third year or get the next level certification to continue my education and update my credentials. Does the same apply in the fitness industry? If I received a PT cert and the next year I choose to get specialty certifications, would there be a need to recertify or does the new specialty certification count as continuing education?
Hey Antonio
I would like to know how the American certifications like the NSSA, ACE are compared to Germany. We have an Aand a B-Certification over there. I’m just wondering if those certifications are considered as a high level (A-License) certification.
Have a good one everybody
Can you still become a certified trainer if you have had legal issues in the past?
This was very helpful/insightful video for me as an aspiring personal trainer. I have my ACE CPT exam set in 3 weeks!
What would you recommend for someone who wants to be a nutritionist/ PT or overall wellness coach?
Thanks for this video! The information really helped me set goals on what I should do!
Hey!My name is Pintu and I m from India.I have been into fitness since more than 9 years through sports and gyming.Currently I m pursuing interior designing as my father owns a furniture agency but I want to go in fitness industry.
I m not new to this industry but I m a little lost here so I m seeking your help.
I have researched about ISSA, ACE, NESTA, ACSM and PN and other international bodies who provide great courses regarding fitness or nutrition and other specializations.
I want your help in understanding what course should I start with first and then after that what should I do?
I want to you to tell me as most of courses I see has some similarities regarding the info they give such as in nutrition.
I want you to help me find the way to get into fitness and establish myself there.
Thank you
Most gyms like LA Fitness offer their own trainers.. they dont like private trainers soliciting their members.. they want their members to join their personal trainer program…. Any advice how to get around this.. do you go to other gyms? Ads of FB? Ads on YouTube? Do you give people your card? Love the apartment building idea.. might make some nice pamphlets to market to buildings.. thanks for the advice!
Im taking ISSA is it worth it i would like youre opinion Thanks
you only speak your opinion. This video is very uneducational. you basically talk everything down except what you suggest and programs you went with. go do some hammer curls so you can thicken up your biceps.
Yeah, I’m not sure what cert to get… I know this will be strictly a cost to me because like you said, none of this information will make you money. However, we need to be educated and informed. Would you recommend your D2D course in lieu of an “official” cert?
Hello sir
You are so energetic
And thanks for the wonderful video
I know about EXOS, but they are on top for everything, this is new to me
So you’re saying if we aren’t working in a gym, but training people on our own, buying CEUs are a waste of money (except for dumbbells to dollars, of course, cuz it fills a large gap most trainers have)?
Thanks for the information, the video is super useful. I just want to ask a question. Did you take online courses or online and in-class courses? Which one would you recommend more? Thanks for answering. ^^
Social media has anyone with a decent (or not) body think they can teach/instruct/coach another person(s) in how to achieve health and fitness goals. Just because you’re 18-25 and youthful with a butt/abs/biceps or do cross fit on the weekends, means you understand what an elderly 50+ client, post pregnancy mom looking to loose weight, teenage athlete, underweight individuals or someone with a wide range of issues, requires… And people need to understand just like a Therapist, Nurse, Doctor or any other profession where people’s lives are in your hands, you need to put in the academic, practical and gain experience before you even try helping others.
Very informative video! I watched several videos on YouTube and this is exactly what I was searching for. Thanks!
mark tomorrow is my 22nd Bday reply and next time i buy BCAA’S I’ll buy machine fuel instead of muscle meds secret sauce
Hey
I was planning to do NASM cerification in India but before that I wanted to know that Is it better to do a certification in which you can get the hands-on experience like practicals also along with the theory. If yes, then which one will be the best to do?
And if No, then Is Getting certified by NASM good enough to become a personal trainer and to pursue my career in Fitness.
Also i would like to know that after doing the certification, what is the future scope. How can a person grow even more apart from becoming a trainer in the gym. Should i be doing masters in SnC? Please help
Sir great video! I can take someone like you serious and know you have a clue what your talking about. I really like the fact you have a well rounded certification base to offer your clients. I’m taking the same route. I have a question though. I’m a Combat Disabled Veteran and a big part of my business is gonna be competitive athletes and disabled vets. Exercise is very important not only for their bodies, but their mind as well. Is there any way you could email me some info on this EXOS stuff. I’m just gonna go knock the whole program out in one shot!! Thanks so much and keep up the good work Sir!!
Ok, well I appreciate your enthusiasm however I see that what is missing from “the best certs” title is “for whom.” If you are talking revenue for a business then ok I can get onboard with the overhead minimum for CrossFit, etc. However, there are so many different facets of the fitness industry. For instance, Everett Aaberg’s Ortho-kinetics was not mentioned and that targets movement and corrective exercise. There is no cert better for assessing and addressing the needs of individuals who do not move appropriately. So, if one were so inclined to delve into that 2% facet of the industry then that would be the best cert for them and then how to market that is a whole other animal. So while I appreciate the passion, I think that maybe a fine tuning of what area a trainer wants to delve in to is in order. JUst my two cents. What about MAT? There is another movement based modality that can add to a trainer’s resume that tailors to dysfunctional movement population.
Great interview. I as well can’t see Tech taking over 100% of the industry
Anyone in South Florida. Check out Fitness Institute International. Hands on practical training and NSCA/ACSM prep for the qualified personal trainer. #1 most legally defensible personal trainer certification on the market (CPTS).
Love this!!!! I’m currently studying for my ACE personal trainer certification and a “newbie” trainer and this helps me decide on my first steps I should take! This is GOLD to me! Thank you!!!!!
Great video. Directed the interview extremely well, almost thought I was watching a fitness channel lol. aspiring to be a cpt, weightlifting/fitness is my passion
Sir I’m going to do NCSF certificate what do you think about it. Should I do it or some things else for work in a good gym in India and overseas.
Hey Marc, if I flex my abs while doing my low intensity cardio, will I get abs faster?
Hey Jonathan! Thanks for your content! It’s helping me so much:D
I’m thinking about going for NASM as it’s recognized in Europe. I was wondering what do you think about their nutrition aproach or if you recommend some Nutrition extra certification:) Thanks man!
I’ve saved about 15,000 dollars of my own money and I’m 19 and I love working out. I’m heading into BUD/s training for the Navy SEALs but I think before, I’m going to try Exos and get certified like I’ve always wanted.
Hey mark, whos the girl in the thumbnail? i really like her physique…its mesmerizing
This is so informative. I’m 31 and am tired of working for people. I’d legitimately love to be a personal trainer, as I also feel like the gym is my second home. I’ve been looking into this casually, but I might take a step further.
The nasm tried selling me their nutrition coach program but as I had further looked out of there programs that one isn’t even accredited. They tried to have me pay 600 bucks for something that wouldn’t have been able to get me anywhere except learning something I would have been able to read about else where for free
What book do you recommend that I get for NASM at Amazon, 2.5 years after you posted this video, the one you recommended was the 4th edition, would that still be useful to pass the current NASM exam? Even a couple years later, thank you
hey, thanks for sharing your thoughts. I guess I can be proud of myself for being an acsm certified trainer and not being an idiot lol
Man I just been here wasting time not pulling the trigger. As always great material. Now more than ever I want to train online with this new way of life. Any suggestions. I am dyslexic with fear of test and horrible memory. I trained in many gyms for about 20 years and back to working out. Thank you please stay safe and healthy
What did they say when you rolled in jacked to the gills at this Crossfit place? I can only imagine lol
I know you are based in America, but I am based in Canada. Do you have any opinion on Canfitpro
I am a NASM-CPT. starting my career soon. will see how this goes!
Hey man you keep it more real that every video i watched on youtube. I followed you with insight on the exam. I pass my test yesterday. Thanks for all the help. Short and to the point!
The thing that really scares me is that compared to other fields like IT there is a lack of an organisation or company or individual that supports you or provides feedback on your performance once you finished your cert. Its sort of a market yourself juggle everything kinda thing. Its some of that stuff i heard from ppl that done it. And that flawed buisness model needs to change
This is a creative field that i love.
Genuinely, authentic, honest & informative video. Thank you.
Always love your videos, despite that all I hear you talk about is NASM(but appreciate your honesty). I’ve been a yoga teacher for 6 years. I’m continually searching and learning. Any company wants money. That’s how we survive. But, I do agree it’s not a one stop, you don’t know it all after one training/certification. I’ve had TWO full yoga trainings, and although I learned a lot of mental stuff, with minimal anatomy, it’s nice to know more anatomy this way. I will more than likely look into other organizations/companies you mentioned and beyond and look deeper. Thankfully I was taught in one of my yoga trainings to take what SERVES YOU AND YOUR CLIENTS/STUDENTS, and leave the rest. These books we learn from aren’t bibles, and we have the power to discern and take what is vital, and leave unnecessary bullshit behind.
Also, the biggest thing I’ve noticed with the NASM book, is they like to use a lot of fluffy words and repeat it to mean the same thing. 3 sentences could be summed down to one, instead of repeating. I’ve heard neuromuscular SO many times, I could throw it up. lol. But, I’ve learned a lot now that I’ve figured out what is needed and what isn’t as useful.
I love your mention of all the parties. Makes total sense. I can’t choose one myself. I take my exam in a few weeks for NASM, and then they will hook me up with a trainer to shadow at a gym.
Question, what’s the best way to get in with working with a clinic/hospital/rehab place? I’d love to help people bounce back from injuries, and ultimately feel like a badass again(that’s my motto, and my students love it).
Sorry that was a bit long! Thanks!!
This is a great video, you helped clear up some things for me. Thank you.
Awesome information man, HUGE Thanks. But what do you think about the Action certification? https://actioncertification.org
I’m surprised you didn’t add ACSM to your list of quality certifications. They are the leading body in fitness and have an excellent CPT program.
I’m a NASM trainer. Took it in person for a year and a half at night while I work at my first job (factory). It was hands on 60% of the time and I regret nothing but the price.
Top 3? NASM, ACE, Crossfit. Why? Simply because all three will get you a job anywhere in the country and make you competent in your field. Two of those require continued education to stay certified. This whole thing where “NASM trainers don’t know how to lift” is more broscience then 90% of the supplements you see out there.
Great video! I’m an NASM CPT (with three of their specializations as well) and I’m honestly going to let it expire. Grown disgusted with them. All they do is flood my damn email with marketing emails trying to get me to purchase more of their crap. Just purchased both CPT textbooks from ACSM and NSCA and will begin studying for the ACSM CPT first. I’m sure I’ll have to read the textbook from cover to cover as I have not found any useful tips on what parts of the text to focus on for the exam. I also have my bachelors in Health and Wellness Management. We shall see how it goes. Anyways awesome content buddy
