If you’re going to do a proper review, I think it makes sense to specify what people are paying for. the specific properties/ composition that makes each knee pad should’ve been at least mentioned. This is coming from a person who is getting into the Industry. This way it avoids people doing google searches on properties about certain knee pads.
Alpinestars Paragon and Paragon plus, I have 1 set of each. I have been using the Paragons 1 year so far, very comfy and for my style of riding they’re great. plus version not used yet. I was riding my hardtail maybe a year ago and took a dump on the blacktop trying to hop a curb, more abrasions than anything but I wear pads ALL the time now, next time I might not be so lucky
I just bought a pair of G-Forms last week and did my first ride in them (or any kneepad) on a 21-miler. After the first five minutes, I didn’t notice that I had them on. Thankfully, no crashes, so I didn’t get to test out the protection aspect, but they are super comfortable. It was hot Saturday, and the ventilation seemed adequate.
I use the Scott grenade pro knee pads, bit older but still In great shape awesome protection, but a bit tough to get off when your sweaty.
The fox ones wear out very fast. Without crashing the stitching comes out on the back of the knees. There is no warranty. I have owned two pairs, so not buy.
While he is reviewing each knee pad I look over to the left to see what Mr. Alice Cooper thinks. Interesting, same reaction with all the pads. I wonder what knee pads he would recommend? Haha
I wear the pocs and they protect good but they hurt and fit bad. Dont buy them
Turned 64 and looking for a good set of elbow and knee guards, sporting a good skinned right knee and elbow from today’s dirt buster but hey it’s all good.
are those prices like the Fox launch pro is that 60 for the pair or 60 each
I have been riding the Sam Hill pads the last 6 months or so, best pads i ever had! Protects plenty and the sleve is long enoth so they stay in place amazingly well.
Just crashed today, messed up my shoulder and my leg, suddenly this video showed up in my recommended.
Here after a big crash yesterday, leg slid over a sharp rock, massive cut due to no knee pads. Lesson learnt!
But sir where is Demon x30 Hyper knee pads????? Plz someone tell is they are best or not… demon Xd30 knee pads?..
Any opinion on the Race Face Charge? I chose them for their back material was soft and breathable. comparable to the POC VPD Air but very thin cushion. Is something like that even sensible to wear? They don’t look like offering much protection of anything.. Maybe i need something with a hard shell.. I pedal a lot so they gotta be flexible. Hmm. I just want basic protection for commuting and a bit through the woods. Nothing crazy. Any advise?
Have you tried Kali Striker knee pad? For me the best out there for Trail/Enduro. Best in comfort and protection plus looks great!
I like it so much I have just ordered Kali Striker elbow pads.
That was a great video FYI they also make a great helmet
I use well ventilated motocross pads because they are a third of the price and I love them. They are not comfy for pedalling tho so I only use them for the downhills, other than that they are pretty good and I combo them with shin pads which help them stay in place so neato magneto. Great video as always. have a nice day:)
I’m looking for some pads that have Shin protection too. IXS doesn’t seem to have those. What do you suggest? Thanks!
i’m looking for a kneepads that I can also use for snowboarding as well as mtbiking. What do you guys suggest? I’m thinking of the G-Form Pro X. I have the POC VPD Air but it was hurting the back of my knee. It wasn’t comfortable at all.
Any recommendations for someone with larger legs? I’m 5’10 182lbs with 22” legs (4” above the knee) and seem to be considerably larger than any xl sizing on all brands.
I must be old. I never wore knee pads while riding my mountain bike. I saved pads for my dirt bike
FUSE ARE THE BEST! THEY HAVE MORE THAN PAID FOR THEM SELF! THE ONES SHOWN HERE ARE GOOD BUT THE BEST IS FUSE
do you have the knee pads and full face helmets in stock at your store?. i’m willing to make the trip
Any advice on spine protection. I took a bad fall last year on my home trail and broke a few transverse vertebrae in my lower back. I have been injured badly a few times but these one really scared me. Any advice is welcome, thanks
I’m not riding any knee pads at the moment. But I’m looking for a a good comfortable pair that I can ride both DH and some single track trails. I’ve been riding pretty much all my life. Been on a Bmx most of those years ND I’m 43. Just recently made the decision to ride more mtb then Bmx. This next summer I will be riding my first DH trails up in Minnesota. I have purchased a used Giant Glory DH, that I like very much nd am soo stoked to ride. I need some ideas. I also want pads that cover some of the shin. Those race face u just showcased i like.
If you’ve been hit in the taint by your top tube, hit that subscribe button.
Both my POC pads (VPD air and VPD 2.0 DH) slide all over my knees when crashing, I hate that about them. Since realizing that I’ve been using Fox DH long pads and have been very satisfied.
I like gform. Mine cover shins as well. Helps if you ride flats.
There’s a reason why 7protection wasn’t on this list, because there the best and dont need any competition lol
Can you actually do some research on the products tech before reviewing them. “I don’t all the technically specs behind this stuff….its foam’ I don’t know what this sticky stuff is etc etc. Your reviews are literally just describing what you see…
I can pedal all day in my Launch Pro. I’m tempted to buy the full length ones to keep my legs warm in winter, cheaper than trousers
I use the fox launch pros and think that they are extremely pedal friendly I’ve even raced xc in them
I’ve been using the G form now for a year and a half. Good protective pads, they also offer compression for your knee.
I went off the bike on “velocity” at mammoth mtn bike park and had the fox pads on. They slid down my leg and I left some skin up there. Not happy!!!
G-Form looks like gaming gear for bikers and honestly a bit style over substance, but cool looking for the fifteen year olds
Wanted to buy some knee pads and other stuff but 42.27$ is the lowest price for shipping..:(
I thought it’s “*
worldwide* cyclery”I guess it is.. But not so friendly
The fox where uncomfortable from rub on my thighs from the wraps
If anyone wants a light duty pad that isn’t hideous like the g-form, check out the Leatt Airflex.
I will be doing a 100 mile endurance MTB race in 2 months, I am looking for the best light weight, breathable, long distance knee pad I can get. Which one do you recommend?
Nice video, as usual. Good overview of some solid and varied choices. That said, and maybe it’s just me, but the seemingly random order in which the pads were presented was a little annoying/confusing. Didn’t seem to be by price, style/intended use, alphabetical, or even how they were laid out on the table.
keep up the good work on the top 5s. Good use of personal and shopper experience
I have the flows. Had them for less than a year and both of the pads have torn all the way through. One of them is almost split in half. I always take out the pads when I wash them (by hand) but one time my mum just chucked them in the washing machine and they broke shorty after that. Probably gonna get the beefier Enduro ones that just came out as I’m starting to do double blacks.
FYI the sticky rubber strip is silicone. Sounds like a lot of the pads have non-newtonian materials in them these days. D3O were among the first to market such materials where the materials resistance to a force (ie impact) is dependent on the velocity of the force. Cool tech as it allows the pads to be flexy for easier pedalling (a slow force application) but the material stiffens up during an impact (fast force application) to give more energy absorption ability than regular foam of similar thickness.
Human bone is non-newtonian to, but in the opposite manner. You can fracture a human bone with a much lower force if the force is applied slowly compared to applying the force quickly.
Ixs flows are pretty good in my opinion. Well ventilated, comfy and protective.
I use the Fox launch pro knee pads,i have done 20 miles of pedaling in the summer and never had a problem. They are great for big impacts though i have noticed a few smaller impacts that always seem to hit the seam that has no padding and boy does that hurt.
i got skin irritation on fox launch pad, especially when use it for whole day riding. and dont forget its too bulky..
I have Race Face Ambush Guard, awesome protection, light weight, back part has open for ventilation and don’t need to take a shoe off when I put them on, great product indeed!!!
I like my TLD Raid that’s similar to the G-Forms and my Enduro MT 500 that’s like the POC. When I go to parks I have the RF with the hard shell
Ive gone thru so many knee n elbow pads because they all slide or are harsh on the skinn but this winter i got the g form and haven tried them on my bike but used them at the terrain park snow boarding n the did great protecting me and not sliding down and i could wear them all day n be comfortable
i can see some appeal in the raceface ones for flat pedal riders cuz of the shin protection
I love Fox Launch Pro, I forget that I’m wearing while I’m riding (pedaling). I also use them under my snowboarding pants as well. Super comfortable….
hey what about the Kali ” Strike ” knee pads? good protection/design and air flow @ $85?
I don’t run knee pads when riding trail bikes but I do use those Fox Launch Pro for DH and love them for that. Wouldn’t want to pedal in them though just like you said.
Very helpful, as I still ride with naked knees but have been thinking about a set.
Prefer the Endura MTR knee guard great protection got a silicon gel strap top and bottom so great for pedalling, also pad can be removed and replaced (if need be) and washed only £66.00
Very comfortable great protection also got memory foam with silicon straps can bike for miles without pads slipping
You should also mention that the RaceFace pads fully open up from the back so you can remove them without taking off your shoes. It seems like a silly detail to mention but it’s one of the things I like the most about those pads. After a hot long day of riding it’s really nice to be able to immediately take off the knee pads without having to take off your shoes. It also easier to carry these in you pack and slip them on for the downhill since you don’t have to take off your shoes.
I have the IXS Flow and TLD Speed.
The speed is my go-to every day pad. Super thin, not a lot of protection but I feel more comfortable wearing nothing at all, so anything helps. I use the IXS for BMX racing and Enduro use. They move well, and offer adequate protection.
I use the IXS flows. They are indeed very comfortable, pedal friendly, and well ventilated for Texas heat!
I have a pair of Fox enduro pads I wear on pretty much every ride. They don’t have the most impact protection, but they do great in a slide and that is all I really need them to do. I can also pedal all day in them without any issue. In my opinion the safest pads are the ones you are gong to wear.

(Also are you gonna make a video on it? I would love to know what your favorite trails are so I can ride them!)
Knee pads are cheep in the US!!!! Just bought a pair of 661 evo 2 from a German site €110 and took 13days to deliver? CRC were out of stock but similar prices.
Hey! I ride trail/enduro/dh I was looking for some better enduro pads, how are the gforms. They look like they wouldn’t protect me very well, I currently use raceface ambush for everything
I got some, I crash regularly these pads get me to work on Monday . You know what I mean aye.
I just had a bad crash and my knees are all cut up and I cant ride for another 3 weeks so I might buy these
I do mostly longer trail riding, moderate amount of climbing, and some downhill with some gnarl, but nothing extreme. Would the G-Form Elite be worth the extra length or should I just go for the G-form Pros
Over use of the word “overall” ;<) but I fully agree how good IXS knee pads are. I'm using IXS Flow knee and elbow pads and really happy with them. Have saved me from losing some bark off my knees and elbows quite a few times.
Do the flows start put in a crash? Or do they slide around after a nice impact
Got almost the same one they broke at 3 spots in half of a year without even crashing
When my Roach knee/shin pads break down; totally going to look at purchasing these puppies!
Wow, never knew of you or these knee pads, I really liked the pro tec double downs for my cross country riding but they no longer are making them. Now after seeing your video you’ve given me hope for a great option thank you. Great video. Sounds like a great quality product which is hard to find these days.
ive had fox hard cap knee pads for years now and they never slip down and save my knees and ive crash super hard coz i ride hard many times the pads are kevlar and have way more pading stronger and last longer than most pads on the market they are one of the best pads ive had my foxs for 4 year+ and they been to hell and around agin and are in rely good nick
Why are you always yelling? even though your videos are very informative and detailed, but raised voice become quiet annoying…
This video was perfect. I have been looking for something more wearable for those uphill sections but is still able to take a hit…or seven. The IXS Trigger offered a little more of what I wanted for those downhill spills, so I ended up buying that one from you guys. Your videos are EASILY the best biking videos I have ever watched. Keep on rockin Lost Co.!
Great video, great knee pads so what did I do? I just ordered a set!
I’ve had 3 pairs of the Carve EVO+ since the x-matter have decided to break every time. Good thing they have 3 year garantee. Don’t get me wrong, i still love them and still use them, they are awesome, great protection and support.
Ive got the same for 2 years and thats true those are reeeeealllyyy nice ^^ i love them
Does the foam get too ridged when the temps get too low. I have the old Flow+ but the foam is rock hard near freezing temps
Ah honestly the poc ones beat just about everything else. Go around the whistler bike park and you’ll see what I mean, everyone’s running them
I’ve got the crave evo+ version for more than a year. Its definitely very confy, well ventilated.
But I use flat pedals and the pins ripped apart the back side. Unfortunately I cant say its durable, its not
sweet!! what about elbow pads? Im in the market for a comfy set.
Just wanted to let you know that after watching this video, I immediately ordered those knee pads and I absolutely LOVE THEM! Super comfy, super protective, nos hot at all. Thanks for the review dude!!
I have been using Alpinestars Paragon for about a year, also have a new and unworn set of Paragon plus, I don’t ride as aggressive as you so they work fine for me, will look into the Flow model
Those G-Form pads are exactly what I’ve been looking for! Thanks for the video
I have one pair of IXS Flow Knee Pads and I do not recommend. Often they slip down in the event of an accident. But they are very comfortable, light and breathable. In the summer I spend long hours on the climbs. I’m worried that the IXS Carve Knee Pads will be too hot and uncomfortable for me, but the protection is actually great.
My pedals have torn the back of my IXS carve knee pads to shreds after 8months of use:(
I trusted your review and got myself a pair they arrived today and so far so good
do they make longer shin protection? I loved my old Roach hard shells
That was by far, the best MTB crash compilation I’ve seen! No other compilation had so much “pain narration”, which apparently was the crucial piece, that was missing from all others.
Now I know:-D
Great review and info on these Knee pads, but please can you give more info on the sizing!…. I recently ordered a pair of the IXS Flow’s in Large and had to send then back and go a size up. It’s difficult to know even after studying the Manufacturers chart, so any real-world info would be very helpful.
Can you redo the video without the kona in the background, kinda make it hard to focus
I use the full length ixs knee pads. But I’m not ready to give up on full length.
What size are you in these knee pads? I’m 5’9 and I’ve got quite skinny legs
I have these pads and that are so comfortable even tho they don’t look it
Great video! I have the IXIS elbow pads and they’re awesome! Dual straps (so they never slide down), super flexible, and after a while I barely noticed they’re even on! Might have to check out the IXIS knee pads as well!
Do you mind telling us your measurements and which size kneepads you’re wearing? I’ve always found the sizing guides to be hit or miss.
Love my flows… lucky to get these as my first pair a year or so ago… good review
ive had the poc vpd 2.0 dh kneepads for 2 years and they’re hands down the best kneepads i’ve ever owned.. never slipped, always protected.. no down sides
I have the lighter model of these without the straps and they’re awesome. Super comfy for long rides, and they’ve protected me more than once. Edit: the Flows he showed at the end.
Looking for something not just for mountain biking but started skateboarding again so might try these
Been looking for a good set of pads that dont move and are comfy. While also being good at doing they’re job of protecting your knees. Thanks man!!
Thanks for the suggestion, been looking for something to wear for our hot summer days!
Hey Mike, they sound like awesome knee pads I might have to pick a pair up. Great video, love your channel.
Hey Mike. Have seen this video a couple times about the carve knee pads and decided to pull the trigger on a pair. Had a crash on my first ride with them and they worked super well protecting my knees. But I am wondering (I’ve never used ixs brand before) have you had issues with them chafing at the back of your knees? I had that a bit. Could it be because they’re just new?
Anyways keep up the awesome content.
Those shins look banged up! 2:34 =D I use the LEATT 3DF HYBRID EXT KNEE & SHIN guards. They are like care bears they feel like they are just hugging your knees/shins and protecting them with their rainbow powers.
I saw you filming that day, had a crash moments later, knee on a rock and of course not wearing knee pads. I’ll get a pair of those
Plastic knee caps should be on all pads, then they slide and don’t pull down. If you’re wearing pants it’s not so much of an issue, but in shorts they’re vital. I wear Fox Launch Pro for this reason.
I’ve sold so many friends on these pads! They really do stay put, and are super comfortable! The elbow pads are good as well, but a little less comfortable on super long rides!
What do you mean “no matter where you’re riding on planet Earth”? I’m riding exclusively at the ISS!
I have a set of Dainese trail skins and you really hit the nail on the head with slippage.
Knee is pretty hurt after sliding out front wheel tight corner before a double. Strongly considering grabbing a pair, but really think I might want something more burly for bike park use.
I prefer full coverage knee/shin armor, after getting wacked in the shin with a pedal when my foot slipped off in wet riding conditions.
i like the ixs cleaver knee+shin for down hill adventures, they seem like a great brand for protection
I have the exact same ones, they’re great, a bit torn in the mesh area but they still work!
those pads look nice but not for me as I’ve got really big legs and I also had double leg surgery so I was looking for longer knee pads that’d go close to my shins and I decided on the G-Form Pro X Knee-Shin Pads, haven’t had a chance to try them at Whistler yet but I’ll be going on Wednesday so will see how they do, I also got the G-Form Elite Elbow Pads as well so will see how those feel, the padding is somewhat similar style of oobleck that’s in the IXS Pads as well.
Great review! I use the Flow for the vast majority of rides and they have done a fantastic job protecting my knee in crashes.
You now have the Carve on my radar! I think I’d like them more than my current Fox DH pair.
Thanks I am rehabbing from a knee replacement. I will get a pair I cannot risk banging up my new knee when I am ready to ride again…
I got the same knee pads just in the EVO version and they feel better than any other kneepad. It was very hard for me to find something big enough for my thigs (57cm diameter). They still feel a bit too small but there is no better alternative.
Dope pads, but their number 1 hit, “Need You Tonight” is better.
I have them. They are great. Sizing is weird. I have fairly small legs, calves. I bought xl. Large felt too tight. I thought I would be a medium. If you have big legs, try before you buy. They also come in a zippered version.
What are some of your favorite all around mountain bike elbow/knee protectors?
I use the same 2020 Alpinestars-Paragon-Plus elbow and knee protections. Quite satisfied so far. I found the elbow protections to have a quite hard and uncomfortable elbow contact, so first thing I did was to take the hard pad out of the pocket and add/glue two layers of eva 2mm sheet (drilling the corresponding cooling holes). Much more comfortable since this modification without perceptible increase on rigidity or weight Some additional protection too from the eva sheets added.
I was about to buy the g-form knee-shin lads that you just show us and I change my mind. I really appreciate your video I think I’m going for the fox knee-shin pads!!
I have the G-Form and agree they do tend to slide down and expose the top of your knee in a sliding crash. Also have had a couple of friction burns from this sliding motion. All the same they have saved my knees and elbows (when I wear them on technical descents, jumping, drop offs etc) on numerous occasions to the point I feel significantly more vulnerable if I’m not wearing them. Interesting to note the G-Force Pro-Rugged Line now have a compression strap above the knee to mitigate this sliding effect.
Just purchased the IXS carve pads, to cover my scared knees. Great review
Great informative Video..I’m new to Trail riding and crash alot..was planing on either the POC or Dainese..Saw another video on the IXS Carve and yours…Going for the IXS Carve..THANKS
At last, a good informative video with no stupid annoying music!
The lady in the video does a great presentation job. She gets to the point clearly and quickly. The guy rambles on and pauses many many times, and he said he has skinny legs many times over. The guy could learn some presentation skills from the lady
If you think of buying kneepads don’t but the dainese enduro ll (really akward shape and really uncomfortable and hot or the sixsixone recon (ripped apart in the 1rst chrash)
That’s awesome as I settled on IXS carve and this just helps confirm what I was hoping. Cheers
Nice video . Check out my boys YouTube videos (electric unicycles sliders gliders) we love your videos
Can you please leave links for each of these pads, thank you .
Thanks for the detailed review. I’m a Security Officer and I’m looking for some low profile protection to be worn under my tactical pants. I’m interested in the G-Form Elite Guard, do you think they will slide down while walking and/or driving? Do you see any cons for my purpose?
Great video! . I Had a crash last week without anything except a helmet. Gravel rash on my forearm and elbow required two surgeries to repair artery and clean out the mud . after 15 years of not bothering now will always wear elbow and knee protection..cheers
I really appreciate your video, from my own research I had decided upon the Dakine Slayer Pro (they added a strap to the top in the “pro” version) thought I would see if there any reviews and you sold me on them. I’m looking for something more comfortable for trail riding then the current more downhill orientated pads I have.
I can’t thank you enough for this video. I’m going to get the IXS curve. They are going to be the first knee pads of my life.
Thanks for watching guys! Click here if you want to check out some of my other product reviews: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLSOiW6uerMsT9MC6YFQZKN2jHXLk8BNOe
Hi I’m looking at buying these as my first set of pads (new to mtb) and I’m just wondering how you are getting on with these pads since this video has been live? Cheers
Amazon mass marketing ad. These are NOT the best of anything.
