Ask your loved one to clarify exactly what type of diet they practice. While a cheesy vegetable lasagna might go over well with your vegetarian husband, your vegan friend would need to pass on it. Understanding exactly what they avoid will help you to accommodate them. Look for vegan restaurants to check out.
One of the hardest parts of being on a diet is navigating social interaction without compromising your diet. This is because so much voluntary social action occurs over food or drink. Friends often.
Show them you care about the person, not the diet. “The idea here is to pull up real close to them, but not about the issue of dieting,” says Baard. “Let them see you care about them overall, and.Help a Special Diet Plan Stick by Making It Appealing. After watching a loved one help himor herself to second and third portions at family gatherings for years, it might be hard to imagine him or her ever losing his or her taste for foods that he or she loves.
Remember, however, that your constant, physical presence isn’t required. If you keep a vigil, take breaks, drink plenty of fluids, eat balanced meals and accept support from others. Also, understand that you might not be at your loved one’s side when. And so in case you’re concerned about how to help a loved one who’s going through something awful, here’s a quick guide based on what I learned from being on the other side. The don’t’s: 1.
Anti-dumping diet. $29.10 Controlled protein diet (40-60 grams and requires special products) $194.00 Controlled protein diet (less than 40 grams and requires special products) $242.50 Gluten free diet. $48.50 High protein diet (minimum 80 grams/day) $48.50 High residue diet. $38.80 Hypoglycemic diet. $29.10 Ketogenic diet. $48.50 Lactose free.According to sports psychology consultant and personal trainer Jacqueline Kelly, the most important thing you can do when trying to help a loved one make a behavioral change is to reinforce positive self-talk. “Give them a concrete thought to replace the negative one,” she says. Two other ways that you can help your elderly loved one to improve their diet is by being creative and alternating ingredients. For example, there are many ways to incorporate vegetables into your elderly loved one’s diet. You can put kale in an omelet.
Whenever possible, your entire family should eat together. Eating as a family makes meals more enjoyable and may encourage your loved one to eat more and focus more on the company and less on their discomfort. To avoid bloating (or feeling too full to eat), your loved one should drink fluids an hour before or after a meal.
Try to maintain a relatively balanced diet while you’re grieving that includes vitamin-rich fruits, vegetables, and proteins. But avoid limiting yourself too much or setting strict eating guidelines — which, again, can lead to feelings of failure — and instead opt for a self-caring approach to nutrition. If your loved one has kidney disease (but is not on dialysis), he or she will need to follow a kidney-friendly meal plan to help stay healthier.
You can help support your loved one by learning more about the special dietary needs of kidney patients. Support, encourage, and check in. Ask what kind of support your loved one is looking for from you. It’s easier to be supportive if you know what he/she wants and needs from you.
This may change from time to time so check in periodically. Know their goal(s). Talk to your loved one.Eat a balanced diet, exercise, and sleep a full seven to nine hours each night.
When you feel stressed, practice relaxation techniques such as deep breathing and meditation. If you get to the point.

So answered a lot of my questions thanks Kati! I am so happy I found you I look forward to seeing your videos here and Facebook
I remember when I told a friend about my eating disorder before I went into recovery and he took it upon himself to research! That always blows my mind whenever I think about it, but it also made me feel loved. I’ve been in recovery for two years now!
Thank you Kati for making these videos they’re super helpful especially if people don’t understand what you’re going through! Your videos brighten up my Mondays:)
Really good information here. Thank you so much Jason, Maye and Lauren.
Number 5 hits me in my soul. My goodness, you are on point.
My friend is she hasent eaten in five days and my friend group is trying to convince her but I don’t know how
I have been through an eating Disorder throughout most of my life. My friends tried to help me, but I ignored them. I now see what I have done was wrong, but I thought it was RIGHT..
hi! I already asked this on another video but I’m hoping for an answer so I’m asking again:) so I want to tell my parents that I think I might have an eating disorder but 1) I don’t know how to tell them and 2) I’m afraid I’ll get put impatient because I’m underweight. What do i do? please respond <3
Once I tell my family about it, this is DEFINITELY something that I need to show them!
I have a question: so my psychiatrist said that I’m in the in the beginnings of having bulimia, but I was wondering if it’s common to sometimes not want to purge, but you feel like you have to punish yourself for eating so much? Thank you, and thank you for all that you do! You’re such an amazing person! ❤ XOXO #KatiFAQ
I’ve been suffering from eating disorder for most of my life. One time, I was eating and mom told me if I eat more I will look like a cow. I literally dropped the food and walked out and know what she said? “That kid is abnormal.”
I literally started crying at the last one, I have always been feeling worthless because I’m not a professional and can’t help my best friend through their struggle. I‘ve always been a person that tends to develop way too much empathy to the point where their problems decide and become my life…I really need to work on that I think
Love your videos, helpful, useful and educative. Please, do more like this to learn and be openedmind towards this illness. Thank you so much.
I love this video Kati! Keep up the good work, you help so many!
She mentioned that they do advocacy work as a team for others. I would like to know more about that…
I show eating disorder behaviour ( I starve then binge then purge but have not yet been diagnosed with anything I’m seeing a doctor tomorrow ) and I just threw up the food I just had then went to get more and when I was heading back to my room my mum gave me a dirty look, I said ” what? ” And she said ” throwing up then eating then throwing up it’s such a pain, it’s disgusting ” I chucked the food away and ran up to my room crying
Is the person holding the camera breathing in the mic?? I keep hearing heavy heavy breathing sounds.
I’m trying to find the way to open up to mom but it’s so hard cause she’s so controlling and has always expected me to be perfect in everything:clothes, manners, education, piano lessons, languages, school, university…ugh…it’s so hard…but i gotta find a way.
#Kati FAQ this might sound stupid but everyone says stop self harming but how do u stop self harming afterburner have been doing it for so long
I just got of my relationship with my (now ex) boyfriend who had bulimia
Thank you so much for this, i tried this with my girlfriend and I am happy to say that she is doing so well and she is doing so well and I just want to thank you for the tips.
I was wondering if you can have agoraphobia and social anxiety at the same time? Like almost a year ago I was diagnosed with social phobia and I still have that but in the past few past I’ve started to think I could also have agoraphobia because I’ve been so scared to leave the house and I haven’t been going to school at all because I’m scared of have a panic attack there and the feeling of feeling trapped and like I can’t leave without embarrassment or I just wouldn’t be able to leave. I’ve only been able to leave my house to go see my counsellor and psychiatrist in 2 months and that’s it. My counsellor’s the one who originally brought up the agoraphobia suspicion but I don’t know if it’s just the social anxiety getting worse. So I was just wondering can you have both or does having one mean you don’t have the other?
I think the voices are a translation of the inner-conscious survival part of the brain.
#katifaq I don’t know if you get asked this or not but I just wanted to know your opinion on pro ana websites. I know they’re popular when it cones to anorexia or bulimia. I’ve been using them for a really long time, even though I’m now working towards recovery. I don’t like the websites as such but I can’t looking at them for support. It’s almost as if I’m addicted to them. Anyway, thanks for all the help and it would be nice to see what you think on these websites. Love you lots xx
Of course parents are always “suprised” about childrens condition and “happy” than it is “only” a brain disease which can be “managed” with medications. But this is not the whole truth. Not to blame them, as they are themselves unevolved to some degree, but the cause of schizophrenia is trauma. Please read about Silvano Arietis or Daniel Macklers books and works. It can be cured by grieving the losses (which medications actually prevent), reconnecting with our true feelings and desires and building a new positive self image. Delusions are imaginary represesentations of split off parts of ourselfes. Everything, that helps us build a positive life is ok, but we must also somehow acknowledge the shadow and shine light on it (release it). I know that the road might be tought and meds help sometimes, but I believe that there is a cause, hope and solution.:).
Accept that we have a condition is the best start for healing
I need help I’m attached to my friends but I can’t say goodbye I always say sorry because there my only friends
Great interview Lauren! And big props to the mom and son for doing so well in this interview was definitely interesting to watch.
awsome vid kati as always hope you are doing OK looking forward to the rest of this week.
Wow, this really seems to approach the true nature of the malady. Sweet work!
Right on Jason! I struggle with acceptance…let’s me know I’m going in the right direction
Hi kati could you please do a video specifically for how parents can help their kids who have eating disorders? Especially regarding how to approach the subject when the kid is denying it or lying about it. I have a family member who really needs help. There are so many “how to tell your parents” videos on YouTube but so little info on “how to approach your kid/teen” on the subject. The teen is in denial and lying about it and I’m so worried but I have no idea what to tell the parents to do other than what not to do (aka don’t punish or shame her).
I appreciate you semicolon tattoo to remind you to keep going
someone i am very close to is struggling with bulimia and it is starting to impact me in a negative way. i feel hopeless because it doesn’t seem like they are willing to change or are motivated to seek help.
I have a family member newly diagnosed and is not accepting of the diagnosis. Any advice?
I have a bad eating disorder, and now I found out one of my friends has one too. He’s really underweight and I’m so scared for him. Is this how my other friends feel about me?
Did the pandemic not hit Canada? I see no one wearing masks.
Today I confronted my friend about this because he wasn’t eating and he was working out so much that it was so unhealthy.Im thirteen and he’s twelve so it’s hard for us just because this is a super awkward age.to see him struggle and see him in pain I couldn’t anymore.if anyone has advice on how I should help him plz share I just want my friend to be happy and be healthy he has such a kind heart and I would kill me if I knew he was struggling and I didn’t to everything I could to help him
Where was this video a couple of months ago?:P
One of my friends suffered from an eating disorder (she under-ate and overexercised) and I did a ton of research in order to help her.
The fifth tip is the most important. I was so frustrated all the time because I wanted to help her but she didn’t want to get the help cause she wasn’t “bad enough” (which we know is bullshit).
At some point I started working on my binge eating with my therapist and I was going through tough times. Things she told me were effecting me really badly. So I just told her that I can’t handle it right now (her numbers and food choices) and I’m not talking to her about it, B-U-T if she’s ready to start recovery I’m more than willing to help her get everything that she needs and she should tell me.
When I was in residential treatment they wouldn’t let my boyfriend come see me. He supported me and I talked good about him all the time but I told about my family and the abuse and emotions and the people let the family see me. But not my boyfriend. It made me so angry.
I thought I had special powers also, and this was before I was diagnosed with Schizophrenia.
Can I just say how well you facilitate these conversations. Very very professional. I’m directing my clients with psychosis experiences to your channel for very high quality, reputable information, provided in a way that I as a psychologist, can’t offer…. From real lived experience. Thank you so much
I have reached my peak in life after being diagnosed with schizophrenia. So its not all gloom and doom.
I don’t have no one to help me I don’t have no support and I have bulimia and anorexia and it’s something that I will have for the rest of my life
Looooove the mom’s discussion on approaching her son as an adult and his own person. As the caregiver of my mother, I’m really struggling with this.
Thank you for valuable information from Norway:-,I know a man who I LOVE so much but he have Schizofrenia.
My husband is going to be 61 he was diagnosed with schizophrenia only 2 1/2 years ago. He ended up and critical care for 9 days. But we didn’t think it was a correct diagnosis. What happened was we were getting ready to move and he sweats extremely easily. I found him early in the morning wandering in the street. I got him dressed and took him to urgent care. They did blood work ruled out heart attack and stroke. Later that same day they called us and said his electrolytes was 120. We immediately got him to the hospital. He went crazy and was having delusions and hallucinations. So I was convinced it was due to electrolytes. He got a lot better but now listening to your videos, I believe he does have the schizophrenia as well. My heart is torn and we’ve had to get a court order to have him evaluated. He’s refusing to see any doctors or get help.
There is a Satanic hive and all of the top people who are running this fallen world are hosted by diabolical entities and chained into the Beast hive. I wonder how a hosted person actually gets assaulted so mercilessly by these wicked cruel entities that they can’t function properly anymore. How does this happen? All the so called leaders hear voices and are in contact with this hidden force too… Just like Schizos. Our human family have been getting abused and deceived in the most diabolical way by these inter-dimensional unseen wicked entities. They hate us and feed off of our suffering, blood, and death. The only problem is that we can’t see them and the stupid doctors just go along and diagnose it with a name no one can spell. People better wake up and realize what we are up against here. God bless and protect all of you. May he heal his children who are being tormented and destroyed by this unseen enemy.
Fantastic video. Wonderful insight as to how Jason can cope with his disease. It’s nice to see that he has advocates. Please keep the videos coming.
My son was diagnosed with schizophrenia two years ago at age 18. The journey is so difficult, but this video made me feel much less alone and has helped renew my hope for continued recovery for my son. The mother inspires me. Much love to her and Jason.. I’m sure they have both worked harder than most people could even imagine to build and maintain their special relationship. The love and respect between the two of them is a beautiful thing to me. And the mother is right,… caregivers and families must learn everything you possibly can about your love ones illness in order to help them recover. It’s crucial. Love even the deepest most unconditional love will not be enough without this knowledge. Thank you, Lauren!
Great interview!! Jason and Maye are the sweetest thank you for the really good advice
My best friend has Anorexia or BDD. I want to be as supportive as I can, but hearing her talk about her weight and how bad it’s gotten can make me have suicidal episodes. How can I help her without triggering my depression? I try my hardest to be happy for her whenever she eats and support her working out, but she sometimes over works or throws up. How do I help her the most in this situation?
Thank you Jason and Maye, you both are Brave… this is hard Thank you for your service
Thank you all for sharing your stories. This is all just such a big help.
I need help and this does not help at all i do t why iturned to youtube but my girlfriend that i genuinely do love is struggling with not only this physically but also mentaly and in the past she has had many other mental problems so much that we had to spilt for a yr and we didnt even know we would get bck togather when she came i could tell there was a signfigance difference to her but one day she broke and told me wassup and that she didnt wanna lose me again cause of sum problem so give me sum help someone cause ive already dished out the advice i could give i told her i cant do anything more but be here for you the rest u gotta do yourself and by that if u need help reach out yourself but as u see now im doing that for her simply cause i am worried so someone plz help me help her
Jason and Maye Jepson are to be commended for the terrific job they do in managing Jason’s illness.
These interviews with people living with SZ and their families/supporters are so helpful. Thank you everyone for doing this. It really helps to de-stigmatise SZ and show that they are humans and ‘normal’ people whatever ‘normal’ means.
Love the idea of a ‘Trust Partner’.
Thank you Kati! My best friend has anorexia, this is really helpful.
Thanks for this video. I found it very useful. I appreciate you taking the time to do it and I value the personal insights that every person in the video brought.
Thanks for the point about not giving up on your loved one, repeating encouraging them to seek treatment.
More communities should have mental health teams to deal with people in crisis. Specially trained police units are a step in the right direction, but I’d prefer to separate public health services from the criminal justice system.
I only have one criticism. Please don’t say you can’t love someone else until you love yourself. People with depression, eating disorders, mental health issues are fully capable of loving another person even if they’re not there yet with themselves.
So my sister has been on this diet where she fasts for a part of the day, but i never knew how long. She is fasting for 12 hours out of the day and I’m questioningwhen she is able to eat. I saw a calorie journal in her room she only eats 200 or less calories a day and thinks coffee is a meal. This isnt the first she has done smth like this, she used to be anorexic when we were little (about 8 or 9) and my mom knows this. Yet while my sister is losing all this weight she never considers that she maybe going back to her old habits and call my sister names like pretty or skinny. Its frustrating because idk what to do for my sister and im worried for her because everytime I try to ask her about it she gets defensive and doesn’t want to talk. And I cant tell my mom because she makes matters worse. Ik this because when we were little she would force my sister to eat and tell her she was going to die if she didnt and all these horrible things. I was too little to understand but now I’m old enough to find better ways and I’m trying to find a solution but all she does is push me away and I cant go outside rn because of quarantine so I’m not sure if I can call a doctor for help because im still a minor…
Thank you Jason and Maye for sharing your story. Jason, how wonderful you have such supportive family ♡ Happy Mother’s Day
My best friend messaged me that she is in the hospital because of her lack of eating it started at school when she wouldn’t eat lunch and now I feel bad for not giving her mine when she asked for some I just want her to be healthy and she is beautiful like gorgeous but she hates herself idk what to do but I am trying to help her and I struggle with major depression so I understand that getting help is hard and hell I’ve had an eating disorder but I need to help her
Thanks, my close friend has anorexia, I just recently found out how severe she had it. Thank you for the video
Not just with ED, but with supporting anyone who is in need of support, you can’t let it be at a cost to your own well being. If you can’t bring yourself into the relationship healthy, then you’ll both be worse off for it.
These are really good tips, thank you! I struggle with bulimia my self and my roommate checks up on me regulary with just talking about my life and also his life and tells me that he noticed it when he did (when I come withh reary easy out of the bathroom) but puts no pressure on me! This is also so important: don’t force us to do anything it won’t work! He’s just caring and says regulary that I always can come to him for help knowing this helps me with my recovery and therapy
Hi Kati, how do I support my girlfriend when we both have eating disorders? I am coping better most of the time but I am no where near recovered so anything she tells me is really triggering and I don’t know how to help her… Thanks x
Thanks a lot for this video. These witnesses are valuable
We miss such a nice youtube Channel in France
Great video Kati! I am currently struggling with my recovery from 14 years of ED behaviour. Needless to say it’s taking some time for recovery to really sink in, despite my willingness and good intentions.
I am quite candid with my friends and family now, and have made public posts on Facebook for the sake of demonstrating that its okay to be vulnerable and to show that more often than not other people will in turn be vulnerable themselves when we do, despite our tendency to believe they will tear us down.:)
Long story short, I’m posting this video to my Facebook page. Thank you so much for shedding some helpful and concise insight that can help my extended circle.
<3
when should i tell a counsellor/adult with authority about a friend who’s struggling?
someone i know has an eating disorder and is suicidal. I have done a lot of research about it and depression, with she also has. her parent know about it and she is seeing a psychologist but she feels that they are trying to take the control from her and now she wont tell her psychologist anything ore take help from her parents. she talks to me very openly about it(to the extent that i know where she vomits, when her parents wont let her use the bathroom) and i try to make her see that she is losing control but she is convinced that she is in full control and she dos not wont to stop her eating disorder.
(her goal is 40 kg)
is there a way to help her more?? i beg of you to tell me.
Very good service to all who needs help, good to remember to always ask for help.
My mom just told me yesterday that she’s been suffering from this since she was 15 and she’s 38 now. She’s been hiding this from me my whole life and I have no idea how to deal with this.
My ex girlfriend or whatever she considers us to be is suffering from this. Is there anyway I could help. She hates herself and has just had a negative perception of everything.
I’ve always heard that saying, that we need to learn to love ourselves fully before we can love others, but how do you actually do that? How do you work on accepting who you are and loving yourself, so you are able to understand, love and help others to the best of your ability? Keep up the great work Kati:)
thx for another awesomely ha bisky vid i know for me i just need to get out of my trapped life and get to vidcon
Jason is so lucky to have the support he does. Accepting you have schizophrenia requires insight and lack of insight is one of the main barriers to treatment
Thankyou, my girlfiend is going through a eating dissorder and I think this will help
I absolutely love how you say “we & us” so that we never feel alone. Thank you for always being there and educating us, Kati ❤
Such an important issue to talk about. Support for people with schizophrenia is so important.
I have a relative with this illness and he stops taking his medication at least once yearly and ends up hospitalized. It’s a whole cycle and he just keeps getting worse and worse because there’s no one anymore (his wife passed away) to make sure he takes his medications daily. And the more you come off of medication the more difficult it is to get back to where you were. His psychosis is pretty prevalent unfortunately and doctors don’t think he’ll ever get better. I’ve done all I can on my end for years but his “health care proxy” has more power to get him the help he needs, and isn’t doing it. Choosing a health care proxy/conservator that is actually going to care about you (obviously) is key. Choosing a health care proxy when you’re psychotic is not a good idea. This happened to my relative he was manipulated and chose his psychopathic brother who doesn’t believe in medication or vaccinations, as his health care proxy. It’s been a disaster ever since.
So please make sure they take their medication and only stop it if the psychiatrist says to. it’s so important. Thank you Jason and Maye for sharing your story. <3
I have a serious question. So my friend is not eating at all, she sleeps during lunch and when she shows signs of passing out or she feels faint she will have a health bar. The problem is that she keeps saying that she forgets to eat or she doesn’t have food laying around the house. I know she is tired being hungry and I want to help her but I don’t know the best way I can. I don’t know the name of her eating disorder nor how to approach this. What do you suggest?
Thank you! I have a best friend that got bullied a lot and got called fat…at lunch she, wont eat. Me and my small group of friend have been helping her, She is a shy kid too….so well, earlier she said “Thank you for helping me”
Here’s one to add.
Stop telling people what to do. Look, I think the reason it tends to affect women more is because people are always fucking telling us what to do, how to look, to smile more when we don’t feel like it, what careers to have, the kinds of men (men. Only men ) to date…. and then when we do our best to comply, we’re demonized for either not doing it perfectly or demonized for doing it at all by people who think those rules are bullshit and so make up new rules that we now have to follow to reject the traditional rules. (If that sounds confusing and muddled, that’s because it is)
So it’s like “fuck you asshole, I’m gonna just be an asexual freak. How’s that for you? And there is NOTHING you can do about it. Go on and tell me to smile. Whose smiling now?”
And yes, men can definitely have body image issues too and it’s the same thing with men, just that the rules are different. they’re told they’re weak or cowards or pussies or white knights or whatever so they tend towards either binging or over exercising. Some men are anorexic too, and I have a guess as to why that’s on the rise. But I’ll save that comment for now.
And the thing that pisses me off is that it’s the same toxic fucks doing that to men and women. And those toxic fucks are made up of men and women so there isn’t even a scapegoat to pin this on.
Here’s one you should add. Stop telling us our bodies or actions need to be adjusted in some way to make you feel better about yourself. How is that for being supportive?
My friend hasn’t eaten for like 1 month and she feels worse and worse. Her best friends are just forcing her to eat and my teachers to. She also cuts herself gets bullied and she is scared to go home due to the problems with her familie. I feel so bad for her and I have a feeling I just cant help her no matter what I say or do. The worst thing of it all is that my school knows all this AND SAYS NOTHING TO HER MOTHER she knows nothing about whats happening, I wish I could just tell her Mother about whats going on…
My friend is also so open about it and answheres all my questions but when I ask her why she doesnt eat she just says ‘mind your own business’ it really breaks my heart
Can you make a video on Hypochondria/Health Anxiety?! Thanks!
Two amazing people with such a huge amount of love and trust for each other. If only everyone could be so fortunate to have such a strong support.
It’s absolutely devastating to think of all those out on the streets who may have not had that help to catch them when they fell.
A lot of these can work for things other than Ed!:) great vid Kati
I have an eating disorder and I tried purging last night. as a result I woke up with a super sore throat and my throat is so swollen. I’m afraid to ask for help
Okay so my mom has been on and off with anorexia and bulimia for years (I’m 14 and she’s been doing this for longer than that) but she tries to make it seem okay. For instance, if I tell her to not buy a new pack of cigarettes she’ll tell me that she then needs to make herself throw up because it’s either one or the other. It’s very frustrating because I know she isn’t okay but her and my dad won’t listen to me. I really feel like she needs to go back to treatment or something like that but my dad says there’s nothing we can do and he just acts as if nothing is happening. I feel like I’m alone in this. I’m only in high school so I don’t have any control over what happens but it’s a very unstable environment and I know she needs help. Any suggestions on what to do?
I developed anorexia because I kept having allergic reactions to chemical preservatives in all the boxed/pre-made food my grandparents kept buying. They almost never kept anything that wasn’t junk food or ready to make foods. That and they let us eat candy all day during holidays, and as a child, I sure didn’t know any better.
Years later, I’m still struggling to eat even two meals a day and I’m starting to see signs of a thyroid disorder my dad has so…it’s been rough and I’m scared to go to the doctor.
Thank you for the video on this topic. It has helped my family and girlfriend in the right direction to be helpful dealing with my schizoaffective disorder.
Just wanted to highlight one point that I feel like is missing..correct nutrition as part of any mental healing. We can never seperate these two..Any mental disorder also has a physical factor that you can trace. The reason why this is overlooked is because the whole food industry is basically industrialised food monoculture. We mainly eat wheat rice in our diet, all over the world. Millets are really a good option,to be precise here which one can try and see the benefits for oneself. This is just one example but the point being, only hammering on the mental aspect of one thing discarding the physical aspect, leaves a vast portion out of discussion straight away. Another thing I want to put light on is unless we start from the physical realm,it’s very hard to begin discussion of the mental which is still a grey area of science. So start from what we see most naturally, our bodies and start care from there, then move to mental.
I’m so glad that there’s so many here that’s willing to help a friend in need. But remember, your mental health matters too. Before you try to heal someone, ask them if they are willing to give up the things that makes them sick.
Hi Kati, when you see a therapist and a psychiatrist do they always give you a diagnosis? love your videos!
i don’t have a diagnosed eating disorder but have something similar which my GP had never heard of before. i have a panic attack every single time i eat for no reason, nothing about body image or whatever just literally no reason so then i won’t eat to stop them even though i get about 5 anyway every day. i don’t know what to do no one ever really understands.
what song do you play at the end of your videos kati? its so catchy:D
my friend doesn’t feel comfortable in their skin it’s hard for them and i don’t know how to support them
Kati could you give me a shoutout in your next video? My real name is Drew (girl) and your videos have been so helpful and made me realize that I needed help for my eating disorder. I have made progress, I was at a stable weight for almost 2 months but recently had a relapse and it made me remember how bad it was and I don’t want to go back there. Thank you for all you do.
Jason, Maye and Lauren… great interview, i see a lot of myself in Jason’s struggles. I know accepting I have schizophrenia was a life changer, its like a series of symptoms the meds mostly block but you have bad memories from when they were untreated. I’m praying for you Jason, keep on going strong and like you said acceptance and trust your doctors, two lessons I need on a daily basis. Blessings
How to overcome being hurt and traumatized by your therapist? Especially that you don’t trust therapists any more and you feel that they don’t care about you and they are just doing their job. It is the worst thing to hear in therapy, but it happens.:”( #katifaq
My bestfriend has been struggling and not eating for days and days. I’ve struggled with the same thing and even I don’t know what I can say or do to help her.
Great video Lauren, yes Jason is so right in saying acceptance of your diagnosis is the first step to recovery. Jason also stated being totally honest with your treating doctor no matter how out there your thoughts or questions may be. Thank you Lauren, Maye and Jason for your honesty and life’s learnings in passing along some really great advice.
Thank you. This is so timely. I just found out that I friend of mine has anorexia, and I’ve been unsure about how to support her.
My friend has an ED, but he can’t get treatment. He often comes to me to vent, but I have no idea what to say to help him. I listen, and I let him know I’m there, I give him compliments but I don’t knoooow help
PLease educate my parents! They do nothing but ignoring my problems and myself. I can’t starve to daeth right infront of them or throwing up right infront of them and they do NOTHING. And I almost want to say that they promote my ED. They are such shitty parents. Honestly, nothing but shitty.
This is really helpful, thank you! One thing I’d like to hear a bit more about is number 5. How do we take care of ourselves? What does that look like?
Hey Kati, any tips on how to help someone who doesn’t accept they could have an eating disorder? I have a friend who occasionally makes themselves sick after a meal. It’s not after every meal, they don’t binge and purge or anything like that, just occasionally if they think they’ve over-eaten recently (even if they haven’t). I’m not sure when something like this actually becomes an eating disorder (if it isn’t already), but she see’s at as just a throwaway thing that happens occasionally and isn’t a big deal. I’m worried by it, even if she isn’t because, if nothing else it could be the fist step to an eating disorder. I’ve only brought it up twice over the course of our friendship and I don’t want to push it for fear of doing more harm. Is this something that I should be legitimately concerned about and how do I support her if so?
hi kati, could you do a vid on pure O OCD? One of the ways mine manifests itself is in my eating habits which has led my family to think I have an ED. A big part of my compulsions involve “starting over” and resetting myself so I go between eating absurdly healthy to binging on anything and everything for various amounts of time (also effects my hygiene & educational/professional life) and its made my weight extremely unstable for years now.
Thanks a bunch! This is super helpful. Could you do one on self harm as well? I think that one is super difficult to know what to do to help someone who self harms.
They should stop sending police to ppl with mental health issues send a nurse
I have a friend she’s only 13 she hasn’t eaten like in a month it makes me so fucking sad
Hello everyone! my mom has Schizophrenia, she has had it for at 9 year now, me and my brother try so hard to tell are mom to get help but she just refuses it! She has went to a doctor in her early stages and they diagnosed her with the illness, she didn’t take her medicine, she felt like they were tryna kill her! She thinks we are the enemies and she doesn’t think anything is wrong with her, she uses her beliefs as a Christian against us. For example she’ll say “If God want me to get help then I will, y’all (me and my brother) tryna force schizophrenia on me, y’all need to pray for yourselves, the world is coming to a end a devil is tryna attack the Christians “.
Basically she is soo gone! And she really think nothing is wrong with her and how she behaves and guys I would love to have my old mom back!! Please if anyone has any advice that could help me convince my mom to get help or if there is someone I can call that will force my mom to take her medicine so she can cope with life again and live!
As being the child of a parent who has schizophrenia it’s hard to put my foot down and force my mom, if the roles were change and If I was her mother and she was my dependent I could make my child get help but as being the child it’s soooo hard and she doesn’t believe us when we tell her that she has schizophrenia and she even tells me and my brother that she hears voices and she has almost every behavior of a schizophrenic person,
please if anyone can relate to my situation and have any advice can you please email me jbolden5327@ gmail.com
I need my mom back
Hi, Kati! I am new to your channel and glad I found it! I am still in my undergrad program (psychology) but graduating this Fall! I will be applying for grad school soon after to get my masters in clinical mental health counseling… I really want to focus on helping someone with an addiction, especially eating disorders.
Anyway, I was reading about yourself on your website and was wondering how you started in the inpatient eating disorder center. I am not sure where to go to find something like that in my area, how did you find it and apply? Was it an actual job?
I suffer from BED and I have learned a lot about it and ways to overcome it (but I am still a work in progress)
Thank you!
Thank y’all for sharing y’alls story, and bringing the struggles of schizophrenia to the forefront. I’m in a very scary place right now with having to seriously think about getting on disability. Don’t know if I can…and don’t have much of a support network. Really scared.
My GP say I’m suffering with bulimia & anorexia but my bmi is in the middle of the healthy range. How is it possible to have anorexia???
Hi, I am Sarah from Saudi Arabia and I have been watching your videos lately and they’re very informative. I would like to thank you from the bottom of my heart, since you have been a great help to me. We lack professional treatment centers in our country (in the Middle East region in general) /it’s not really accepted in society if you went to one or took any prescription medication. I show many signs of borderline and depression as well. I am taking things day by day since I don’t have any other option, and again your videos have been a great help. Thank you.
Katie, you’re looking extra extra beautiful wow. You’re glowing! You look amazing!
Thank you for this interview, its great idea to discuss this topic with family members.
Let me start off by saying KATIE YOU ARE THE BEST!!
Now boring stuff: I can’t really tell anybody about my “eating disorder” bc they will just be pissed and I really don’t want to be a disappointment. Sometimes I wish I could get past the anxiety that occurs when I talk or think about talking to someone about it but I can’t. I have issues with Low self-esteem and self harm. I feel like my issues aren’t serious enough. My mom has had problems with depression in the past but now she thinks medication anything else is useless, she wouldn’t help me verify asked. I’ll be 18 in May so I’ll be able to work that out by myself, and probably all these other issues that I’m dealing with. Anyway Katie you’re such a big help thank you for all the videos you put out keep doing the great work!!!
Sorry for spelling/grammar I ramble and I’m a pathetic dyslexic:/
My best friend who has been my best friend as long as I can remember has been there for me through thick and thin and about a year ago she started to stop eat and every time she would even take a bite outta something she would go throw it up. I brakes my heart. I’ve told her that it’s got good for her and it can do damage to her body but she doesn’t care. I really really want to help her and I’ve been trying to find a video for months to help me out. Can someone help me please?
How do you handle the guilt associated with parents who get emotional when they are concerned? I shut down when my mother is in tears because I can’t handle my own emotions plus hers. You’re awesome Katilove the amazing contribution you are making to so many lives!
My sister has anorexia and she says in her diary she loves anorexia and that she purges and puts herself through punishment when she binges. She has binged today and I’m scared she’s going to keep punishing herself. I want to help her but I don’t want her to know I’m helping. She is 17. I don’t want to lose her.
Thanks for sharing your knowledge. Your videos have helped me so much. Please keep making videos.
Thank you to the parents for loving and supporting their wonderful son Jason. Nothing substitutes an unconditional love. I hope the non veterans can also get the same level of help and support that they need.
How many doctors does it take to be correct in deciding what my mental illness is?
I am still counting!…… I will let you know when I am done!….. So far….. none of them can agree on anything!
I love my beautiful life!
ME: “Hysterically laughing at stupid humans”
“The darkness comprehended it NOT”
trying to help my friend, hes not eating lunch and recess and he only eats siomai in dismissal
Thank you Jason and Maye. It is helpful to see how other people deal and cope with this illness. I have now lived with it for 28 years and moved on to a newer antipsychotic medicine in that time due to advancement in the medical field. It is important to continually adjust to the illness as you go through life. Stay strong Jason, you are your own best friend and you are doing amazing. Keep well also Lauren and be kind to yourself. Much love
Praying for a cure! Super supportive mum, my mom was there through it all too! It made me stronger and recover faster. Amazing work
I think another good point is to not mention the person’s weight. Even if you might think it’s positive, it can have a negative affect on the person with the eating disorder.
Great information! I’m sharing this video with my husband, thanks Kati!
Thank you for this Kati! My sister was unfortunately diagnosed with anorexia a few months ago.
#katiFAQ how do you get the courage too get help. It’s easy to say if your having problems get help but it’s scary and many people know they need help but don’t have the motivation to get the help.
Jason’s right….. the bottom is not fun! You don’t have to experience that though. ❤️ Remember, it’s just a word. It gets better, and you can live a happy live and you will be able to feel your parents or other loved ones love.
Thank you so much for this video Kati! I think it’s really important to understand the disorder before judging and trying to give advice to someone. My friend is suffering from anorexia for over a year now and I just don’t know what to do anymore. They refuse to tell someone and get help. I tried so hard to convince them to get help but I failed. How can I get her help?
Have a nice day ♡
not to be rude, i would be so scared to live w someone who has schizophrenia… i would have to have ppl around me at all times and protection nearby
Beautiful! Thanks for sharing Jason and Maye Jepson, much love <3
At what point should someone talk to someone about an eating disorder? I think I have one, but I don’t know when to bring it up to my psychiatrist
