Can someone please tell me why my range of motion is so little on the leg press (even with zero plates) yet I can squat fully to depth no problem. Driving me crazy!
What about using the leg press as a deadlifting accessory? I’ve been leg pressing twice a week. On leg day I target the quads. On back/deadlifting day I put my feet up high and tilt the seat forward, targeting the hamstrings more so. Is this not effective?
Pushing through your heels makes it a lot harder. I had pushing more towards my toes this whole time ♂️
Good video. Thanks!! What about work glutes in this machine?? Does it work??
I leg press 10 plates each side but dont squat.
Planet fitness member
important: dont lock the fukin knees
i get anxiety when i see my friends do leg press in school gym i try to teach them as much as i can xD
GREAT! This is one of the best tutorials on how to do leg press RIGHT. So happy to see you explain it to newbies PROPERLY! Wowso rare in our society full of no-experience BS artists, pump artists and fans of pseudo bro science.
How do you know if it is too much weight or not? How many reps per set is good?
Jay “LOOK AT MY FUCKING QUADS” Cutler.
I stole this from another poster and just added a bit. Anyway Jay does have amazing legs, calves as well.
Unfortunately, I have to lock my legs to lock out this equipment. My legs are too short and there are no adjustments to make it where I don’t have to lock out my legs.
When my gym opens up im definitely gonna try this out. Just looking at the depth he is getting from lowering his foot postion it looks like its going to flare my patellar injury. I would rather do atg or lower than parallel squats but if i were to attempt leg pressing this way would you still reccommend lowering your foot position to that extent or do it slightly higher?
You explained it very well thank you for sharing your knowledge
Thanks for your instructional video! It gonna help lot of guys to avoid injuries n built the muscle n stay in fit. God bless You…
Can I stream this video to my gym for those carelessly pushing 500lbs and absolutely destroying their knee joints?
I dont always take lifting advice, but when I do, it’s from guys who dont look like they lift and wear capri yoga pants….
Sweet I love leg press as I can’t load anything across my neck. I’ve been this exercise almost entirely right except I just realized I do lock my my knees at the top of the press. Great explanation. Even though I’ve never experienced joint pain from this exercise I see the value of keeping the weight loaded in the quads during the whole exercise.Thank you!
that has to be the cleanest leg press machine I have ever seen. Great video… Cutler is my favorite IFBB pro
I don’t know how to thank you… You teach us from your heart <3
Great tips. What do you suggest for me to increase my strength on a road bike? I mean, leg press. Thank you in advance. Best.
As a beginner to the gym, thank you for your videos they are very clear and concise.
nice video , thanks for making, make more videos like this
I heard that I need to put weight larger than my body weight to have results. Is this true? I am comfortable with let’s say, 80% of my weight…
Starting incorporating leg presses into my leg routine gained a few inches on the old quads in a few months coincidence I think not but still love all the other bread and butter moves like Deadlifts and squats leg extensions burn like hell too if you have the right amount of weight
For safety purposes that 1st position isn’t good, place you hands behind your head.
Great tutorial, any tips on breathing while doing this exercise? Thanks a lot
Thanks. Love this. Sounds like a God fearing guy. Sooo humble. 0094772503617 whatsapp.
Please tell me whether to make an arch in lower back or not like we do in bench press
Good video, the information is clear and most of all… useful, Thanks for sharing.
don’t be that idiot who stack up all the weights and do 2-3 inch leg press
This person’s wholly apathetic attitude toward this apparatus is substantiated by his underdeveloped legs. This person is a clown.
Thank you soo much for these videos brother!! It’s insane you don’t have more subs, your the best!
http://miamimuscleusa.com/ can’t be “reached”. August 23 2019
Subscribed. You are awesome! Thanks for such a lovely video!!!!!
Awesome sir this is a proper video and concerned safety first…….
Well I never knew how far I needed to go down with the machine probably doing half reps for months at too much weight
Amazing tutorial……I had disc problem earlier, now I’m ok…. is it safe to do leg press?
Madami akong nakikitang ganyan bida bida binibigatan di naman proper
0:58 WTF was that,I think 1/1000 rep.lol he is using type IIx muscle fibers and not the IIa muscle fibers, that will give nothing but killed knee caps. The IIa is what gives you power.
A trainer at my gym told me to only go down a few inches or you damage your legs.
But it made the leg press so easily. I could stack 200 kg like that n my legs are nothing.
But I guess that was wrong.
I am a new sports youtuber in Korea. It’s a good exercise video. I will subscribe to your channel. If you watch my channel and subscribe, it will help me a lot.
i’m too paranoid to even knee lock, I fear that my knee suddenly goes the other way and shatters, i think many will know what video i’m talking about…
Thanks for this video! So helpful! Thank goodness I’ve been doing it properly
I do all the things properly on leg press but my heels always lift up slightly when I go deeper, my feet are up high on the plate too. I am 6’5 with 36” inside leg so have long levers which is crap.
You can use different foot positions to target the muscles differently high for hamstrings low for quads and close foot for outer quad
These guys are full of shit with ZERO leg development!
Can someone please tell me why my range of motion is so little on the leg press (even with zero plates on) yet I can squat fully depth no problem. Driving me crazy!
1:52 so we are suppose to do it like that. I thought you’re not supposed to let your knee touch your chest? And even though, If I still feel a burning feeling on my thigh does it still count that I worked on them?
So many roid heads in this comment section. The same type that try to make people feel bad because they can’t lift as much as them, like they benched 400 their first day. Gimme a break.
Well, not a bad idea for the guy describing the CYBEX machine to tell viewers how much efforts he makes to prevent himself from eating 2-daily double mac with cheese plus one Whopper at evening time…
NEVER LOCK YOUR KNEES. THIS IS THE MOST DANGEROUS GYM EQUIPMENT.
There is this gif of a woman LITERALLY folding her legs “the wrong way” around using this machine. Don’t look for it.
No matter what the weight is NEVER LOCK YOUR KNEES!! If you can’t get on this just don’t use this machine. Don’t. Do a combination of variations of squat, abductions, you are good to go. It is it not worth it
Why are these videos not more popular? Best instruction series out.
All these big dudes have high pitch voices from taking so much gear.
Lol I remember when I first started working out, my lazy ass would do this machine first on my “leg days”, then I’d do some half ass lunges, leg extensions and leg curls machine and some calf raises. Granted I made zero gains my first year or so.
Guys im new to this workout, I keep rewatching the section where he compares locked and unlocked knees and I have no idea what he is talking about can someone pls explain?
how does this differ (in muscle group) from weighted squats as id rather be using weights rather than machines if possible
Whoa, Whoa! Don’t mess with my “Pad” bro!:) Thanks Mike was actually really helpful love these common machine use tutorials I actually wonder often if I’m using mechanics properly. Love to see “incline hammer press”, and Shoulder press machines.
Helpful video. Do you think calf raises in between sets is good. Is this a great way to start legs day?
My gyms so shit when a steroid head gets on leg press all other members just stand around doing nothing cos there’s no weights left!!!
I wanna watch “how to do smith machine vertical leg press” from you
I hurt my lower back doing this exercise…had the back set at 6…was using it to do crunches…my whole flow was wrong…now my back pain is so darn severe…
Man, mad respect. I’ve been locking my knee the whole time and yesterday i was suggested not to do so. Subbed
I’ve been doing this wrong for ever dksjakkaka my booty better grow now
the thumbnail says “fix your squats” I thought it read FUCK YOUR SQUATS lol.
I like to do the little push with my feet as a stretch if I’m going up in weight. Just to loosen my dick.
I would like to add: dont get up too fast. I stay “seated” for 15+ seconds after a set. If i dont do that, ill get a sudden rush to the head that could lead to temporarily passing out
Just started my journey to fitness 18 years old after a heart break! I just learn a lot to help my form! Thank you
Oooo i didnt know that u were supposed to not lock ur knees
Lol nobody told me. How was i support To know
I’ve been told you have to push off with the heels of your feet so it doesn’t affect your knees the gym guy told me pushing off with your heels makes the muscle grow in your butt and quads he said pushing it regularly Can mess up your knees
Questions can I place 45lbs on one side. If all I would like to press is 45lbs
Between this video and Jay Cutler’s how to leg press video, there’s no reason not to do this exercise properly. Good video.
You forgot to mention that it’s better doing one leg at a time.
His feet should be much higher on the platform to prevent the knees from extending out over the calves. Don’t break 90 degrees. Might end up with good quad development, but not good for the knees.
funny, the guys are saying,, getting a lot of good result with these techniques, and all i see in the video are legs like sticks,, or seagulls,, quite funny,,, but i do agree with some of the points,,
Many people show you how to use a machine. Very few show you how to avoid injuring yourself. Thanks.
Very recently I broke my PR. My knees were and still give me a good deal of pain now. While I can do every exerise fine I still can not physically do the leg press. I wish I knew proper form.
I am 63yr old female. Don’t laugh. LOL I want to make my legs stronger. How much weight do I start with? I have used this machine before, but wanted to know proper technique. Thanks so much
This is gud
Tomorrow is my leg day and i never skip leg day
0:55 what the fuck, I thought his legs were going to snap ahaha
Santa gone crazy
I will try that when working on leg day I noticed that doing hack squat not going all the way down probeley not being flexible enough.
Pushing through the toes increases quad activation. Basic biomechanics. High wide feet = hams + glutes. Low feet and close = quads. Neutral = quads/hams
” Don’t lock your knees” Point well taken sir. Will heed advice….Thank you.
Why would I smash a like button before even watching the video… what kind of democracy is this…
Weird thing is, my left leg is larger than my right, but the right is stronger than the left. I am confuse
I’m about 5’2 and 125 lbs. I’m not super fit or muscular but I can leg press over 200lbs, but I’m not sure if that is good or bad. When I use the lower weight, it feels like I’m not working my muscles that great so I keep adding more weight. I know that I can go even heavier but I’m scared that maybe this exercise is bad for the back or something. Is using a very heavy weight bad for the knees or back?
Wow just when I think starting To know what I doing another vid comes along and tells me why I’ve been doing it wrong all this time
We have a fitness room at my school that has a lot of weights and leg press machines and people have broken their legs multiple times but 2 more years and I can use it
take your time standing up after a hard set of leg press otherwise there is a good chance of a dizzy spell.
https://youtu.be/zLhwMNTnCfc NEVER Lock your knees on leg press
I almost broke my rip today by going down too deep… the low possible ROM of a legpress bothers me
Ohhh I cringed when he locked his knees for a second there
I cannot for the life of me keep my heels glued to the footrest, heavy or light, doesn’t matter, my heels always lift off slightly as my knees bend before I push the weight up. The only way I’ve found to combat this, is to place my feet higher on the footrest, with my toes actually sticking over the top edge, but I’ve read this position actually involves the hamstrings a lot more, while I’m trying to target the quads… and also according to this video, it’s dangerous lol
Super useful, thanks! Glad I found this channel, keep it up!
who ever edited this video… color correction pro! obv im being sarcastic…
How to properly leg press? You’re no Tom Platz kid sit your ass down. Until you are let us know
the vertical leg press machine is much harder then the fake leg press machine where you put plates on the side
i did 12 totally clean and deep reps of 330 kg in this true kind of leg press machine. look here https://youtu.be/VSFS7dJ3cwA
I place my legs high on the plate, to activate my glutes more.
Thank you so much for the tutorial!
I’ve been intimidated to use weights at gym due to risk of using wrong technique and causing possible injury. Really appreciate this video!! Thank you guys!!!
At 350 for pre-work out i would also hold my head, but at 2400lb’s i hold the safety lever. And use my full calfs and quads legs to push weight not lower back from safety and i have tummy in stiff form to support my groin.Your tummy was in soft mode? Are you using lower back to get it of its safety? And then transferring the power to quads and calfs?
Jay said to keep ur legs lower now which one should i follow?
Butt wink/lower back rounding is a good tip!
I never noticed it since I was sitting.
I then tweaked my back and couldn’t walk right for a couple months, much less workout.
My feet were high and weight heavy.
It felt great until it didn’t lol.
Listen to this video! All good tips for LgPs!
Any thoughts about using the leg press with a history of Umbilical Hernia? Had surgery in November and this is the only exercise where I feel unsafe regarding my patched-up hole. I tried to don‘t force out my belly, but especially with this kind of deepness there is a lot of pressure in this area. Maybe using a belt to limit the room where the belly can go?
well.. my max was 200lbs (considering I’m 143lbs )without ever working on my leg press.. Idk I felt I could do a little more, but I was affraid because I didn’t want to blow my knee caps off my legs xD
Is it bad to put your feet up to the top of the machine so that my knees don’t go past my toes?
I am a new sports youtuber in Korea. It’s a good exercise video. I will subscribe to your channel. If you watch my channel and subscribe, it will help me a lot.
Thank you so much for helping me with gym intimidation. It’s not the people or anything but I’ve always been so socially anxious especially at gyms.
https://www.fitness-china.com/leg-machine
so word on the street is my sled leg press weight is pretty good for my size. 275lbs 6’2″ and my sled press is 988. Good video dude! I really get worried sometimes with how I see people do this
Superb explanation.. I feel Lower back pain for 2 days after doing this workout.. But after seeing this video now I realised that I kept feet too high and not rest my lower back on seat..Those mistakes I ll correct in my next work out.. Thanks
Is it normal to do 265kg?? I want to know how I compare against regular joe
Wondering if going wide and high hits the hams and glutes more? This is what I do for this reason then I go low for quads on other sets
I have never used this machine at my local gym because I feel terrify of hurting something, specially to the point he referees in minute 4:17 to lock your knees.
As long as your knee goes “over” your toes and you don’t lock them.
but the one at my gym pushes your spine backward, or are you tring to tell me that those idiots have got it the machine wrong?
Hi Scoot, I have a question about Leg press machine, what is the diferrence between this machine and the other machine in where you put discs to control the weights? I think even the form of machine is diferrent. I hope you can help me
I heard this is NOT a good exercise for your back because it pins your back against the chair and does not allow it to move. T or F?
Some people say push with your toes and some say push with your heels. I don’t know who to believe.
Thank you Scott for demonstrating I was doing it wrong there is a machine similar can’t wait to give it a try keep you posted.
You r the boss!✌
For me, at least 60% of fitness youtubers can shot down their business…They just dont know a shiiiieeeeet
I just watched a video with Jeff cavalier from Athlean X. He says it’s okay to lock out your knees. I guess one of you is wrong.
I luv your videos! what do you eat? How do you maintain abs like those?
what if you wanted to target your glutes and hamstrings by placing your feet lower on the foot area? Would you have to lower the seat?
I can leg press and Abrams tank for reps, and I am an 84yo. Jay needs to up his game.
I play basketball and I started at 90 and was like that’s too light until 180 and I was like holy shit I should stop since I thought i must be doing it wrong if I could do that much
Thank you! Video was extremely useful and was doing it kind of wrong! Your a true g
Leg press just gives me a headache and as I understand that’s no good.
Everytime i do seating leg press i feel it more on my knees and not legs. I am doing the correct form… feet above knees like your video. Any reason why i feel it more on my knees? Thanks
I find the seated leg press has a number of valuable uses…
the principle one being it keeps the squat racks free
I see people at the gym loading up the leg press with tons of weight and then I wait to see how they perform the exercise and they always do it wrong lmfao, they slightly bend their legs and call it a “rep”
Nah bro, the leg press is for using every plate in the gym to do 5cm ROM reps
Well when I do squats, my knees go past my toes so is that bad?
position of your legs will train a particullar head of your quadriceps.
Where should you place your feet when you want to work your legs equally but the foot plate is curved in the middle at my gym? I’ve been placing my feet right in the middle but my curve
I dont like this machine because its too easy. Good video though will subscribe.
Scott man I need your help. I do the seated leg press at the gym, I never feel it. I have checked my form over and over again, I have even recorded myself, and got someone to watch me. I can only squat around 130kg (I weigh 73kg) and on the leg press I don’t even feel it at 195kg, yes I feel that I’m working but never feel the burn. I only fell the burn if I go below the 90 degrees bending my knees so in other words a deep squat, then I feel it. It is really weird, If I don’t get the weights to touch, I don’t feel it. If I do, I feel it. The machine at the gym is different to this on here, I generally feel it is something with the machine, none of my other friends feel it either.
I like all your videos. You do need a shirt though, but only to clip your mike to, your sound sucks!:-)
I always told people not to lock your knees but they don’t listen to me.
Thank you no wonder my knees feot like they were going to explode lol
This machine scares me shitless ever since i saw a guy break his legs after locking in his knees, going to pay a looooooot of attention when i’m doing this
Searching for “leg-press whizzer” form “The Good Place”. This was the first result
the guy who preaches about all the pressure is on the knee cap has another video on the leg extension machine. A known knee killer
Hey Scott!! Just curious…I have a routine for everything except legs other than cardio….my sis has a kinesiology degree she doesn’t like this machine…or leg pressing in general..but she says she would prefer me using the plates leg press as a pose to the one….I am okay starting with either just thought I d get your preference..
Im 18 years old, my weight is 68kg and I do 220kg on that with one leg.
Your quads are built in 20 years of work in the gym brother Jay
I did the same weight as you but yesterday I was struggling with 70kg I’m really unsure why
But I think maybe it’s because I didn’t do 90degree angle. Definitely bare this in mind next time.
It’s weird isn’t it. Jay Cutler just did a video where he said to have the feet lower.
I think I’ve been using this machine all wrong. Kept the seat too far away. Not close like he is doing it. I will have to correct that next time.
I was pressing through my heels and a little bit of toes (!!!) before, now I do this and its so much better!
Means it’s okay to make your knee over your toes as long the foot stable? Sorry for my english but really need the answer
Proper form means so much. Even though I’m over 50 and under 200lbs I can rep 5X my body weight due to presses and squats done properly over time.
Thank you sosooooso much. My knee was killing me in this machine because my knees were above my toes
Ty dr mike, always felt quads and glutes equally but after taking the seat all the way back my quads are lit the fuck up
It’s not about straightening the knee as much as it’s about engaging the quad. You want to think quad contraction rather than straighten legs. When you stand out of a squat do you leave your kneas slightly bent? When we walk, we straighten our knees, we apply force on a straight leg all the time so it’s necessary to train this range properly
Video is 2 years old and i’m wondering how someone still hasn’t asked for insta handle of the girl in behind
I have seen lots of stronger guys do leg press and perform it wrong. This was absolutely perfect execution for form, strength, and above all safety. Textbook.
Also another piece of advise: Keep your legs straight when you do this exercise. Don’t let your knees bend to either the inside or the outside, it will damage them and you won’t really feel the exercise in the muscles that are meant to work this exercise.
The Gym i go to has the same machine as this video. I tried it recently and i was doing the single-legged variation, going back and forth,left-leg,right-leg. I hold onto my knee with one hand and hold onto one of the handles on the machine with the other hand. Holding onto you’re knee works like an exoskeleton, and for means of having additional knee-joint stability and cushion. The Gym i go to also has a standard leg-press and i’ve used that one plenty of times but i think i will use the Cybex more often. Yeah,i was really liking the more upright based seated position.
I like how Scott is so non-threatening. You can watch the instructions with a smile and it’s for everyone. He is earnest and happy and motivating and gives great tips on how to avoid injury.
I subscribed and will now search your channel for gym techniques & tips! Thanks for the quality content!
I used to lock my knees and I was lifting some 250kgs of weights. One day I locked the knees and they folded inwards. I had to amputate one leg. Guys this is serious. This guy deserves a medal. My gym trainer didn’t helped me with this knowledge.
Hi, I’m new to working out and I’m searching way to use equipment correctly. Is picking your knees basically straightening them once you push out?
Muscle & Strength you guys are excellent. Thank you so much for this.
The most annoying thing about this exercise is that you have to re-rack all the plates.
yeah I worked this exercise as shown watching this video at gym today. my legs really feel tired now. now it’s time to eat. thanks buddy for the video. really appreciate M&S
4:19 “and of course, ending up with quads like that” -oh shit. Ok thats it, change of plans, legday today fellas!
Another high caliber video Naomi!!! Proper form is so important for effectiveness and avoiding injuries. So among all the leg / glutes exercises out there, do you have a favorite??
The best explanation I ever heard for the leg press machine
Thats it no more searching for more tips…jay said it and thats enough for me!!!
yupp… I was doing it wrong.. useless gym instructors.. thanks for the tips bro
I ESPECIALLY LOVE IT WHEN THE WOMAN PACK ON THE PLATES THEN LOWER THEM ABOUT 2 INCHES…THINK THEIR DOING A GREAT JOB…LOL..TOO BAD MOST PEOPLE CANT TAKE POSITIVE CRITICISM
Leg press lying on my back and sitting leg press are causing lower back pain. Can anyone tell me why?
Leg press doesn’t mean shit. So many people can do a ton of weight on the leg press, but when they get under a squat bar they can’t do shit.
2:57 when hes describing people who leg press the machine only a couple inches. ” thats not gonna work”
Lmao
You should tell Ron Williams not to tell us wrong stuff then, he suggested the best way to build the legs is spreading them along the plate….. im so confused now, who’s right and who’s wrong? I hate this crap, and you guys are both champions on what?, oh yeah, on confusing people…
Great vide Dr Mike! Can we get a video going over common mistakes of chest flyes with both cables and machines? I feel that’s a common one that people screw up
You obviously want to show off your abs but being shirtless on the machines is gross!!!!
True i hate when people lock out thier legs drives me nuts u see them bending their kness backwards when they push rhe weight up to the top lol i allways stop keep tension on the quads and youuuuu we ll feel it after
Can you not please recommend some weightlifting shoes, thanks!
I like you too legend.such a you are a professional bodybuilder and perfect motion and from excise cmplt person
I don’t think ending up with quads like that can solely be attributed to strict leg presses…
I though this was the Quarterback Jay Cutler lmao I was like damn I didn’t know Cutler was swole like that
Nice guy but if he was made of chocolate he’d eat himself…
Probably the video with THE worst sound quality on YouTube. Well done!
Jay Cutler looks amazing here even though he’s smaller! His legs actually look beautiful. It’s great to see a former top bodybuilder looking like this rather than wasting away.
Is it just me or there are a lot of dickheads around the leg press machine?? The other day, I wanted to use it and some guy before me was like, do you want me to unrack the weights for you? I said no, I can handle the same weights you were using. He was like what? you need all those weights?? I was like yeah bitch!! so what??!!
Can any one help I’m 5 ft 2 tall and I’m not sure what height i should put the machine at?
Jay forgot to tell me to take some test, tren and other PEDS
I always find punching out a big fart on the push through helps with getting the necessary thrust to return the weight.
I usually do 3 heavy sets at half depth, then 3 light sets at full depth.
Start off with 720 pounds for 10 reps, then do 810 for 10 reps, then 900 for 10 reps. If I feel like it, I’ll do 1,000 pounds of plates for 7-10 reps at half depth.
Then I’ll switch to lighter weight at full depth. 540 pounds for 10 reps, 630 for 10 reps, then 720 for 10 reps.
Only 4 olympias. Ho. What does he know. I could easy win 5 if I wasn’t busy))
i thought you werent suppost to let your knees go over your feet are you come down? isnt that putting bad tension on knees?

I do this without any plates, and keep my legs straight, this way I feel my back pain disappears. I am a female.
Is it wrong way to do this machine or should I keep more distance between feet and stretch my legs outerwards.
I have a quick question im hoping someone can help me with. I just started really working out like 4 times a week for last 2 months and was wondering if being able to leg press 410 3 times with good form is decent for someone my size. Im a smidge under 6 ft (jerk nurse straight up told me 5’11 3/4″ -_-) and 183 lbs.
Hey Mike I have a Marcy’s Smith machine and I’ve learned to supplement leg press machine since I don’t have one and perform it in the Smith machine with a bench at the lowest incline. Just wanted your thoughts as I’ve heard mixed reviews. Some say it’s extremely bad for your back and some say it’s fine. I don’t go straight under it pressing up I use an incline bench and feels pretty good on my quads and I have not experienced any back issues. Just curious on your thoughts.
Does the seated leg press also workout the glutes as much as doing barbell squats?
But where do we get the steroids you take so we can actually have quads like that?
Is this really a necessary video? I mean, how many people really manage to do a leg press incorrectly? Why not how to do a squat or deadlift correctly?
Here’s to learning new things in 2019! What machine should we go over next??
This is one of the best how to videos. I appreciate that you are very articulate and your videos are short and to the point.
Such a informative video p.s ur so pretty, love from pakistan
I’ve been locking my knees♀️day 4 at the gym is tomorrow no more knee locking for me
Good video. The seated one is the same as the one at my gym, it seems obvious now you say it but my leg position was wrong, can’t wait until my next visit and I will position myself as though I am doing a squat.
Thank you for this video! I’ve been wanting to use the squat press for a while now, but worried to use it because I didn’t know how to lock and unlock the weight.
Thanks girl!!!! It’s been 18 days since a ive been going to gym. Trying to loose weight which I lost 16 pounds still new to the gym. I’m wanting to loose my back fat and my stomach any good machines at gym that can help?
CLICK THAT NOTIFICATION BELL SO YOU NEVER MISS AN UPLOAD!
If your gym has one of these, you should definitely use it. Make sure your pushing through your heels and avoiding knee pain though!
Best video EVER!! Can’t wait for more of the series love this is such a good one! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
I love you babe, i been waiting to watch you to do workout. You’re amazing
respected sir, please do make such videos where u teach the right positions of various workouts
Hi do you know what is the best rep range of muscle growth leg press
I was right doing not too low positioning my foot as I can’t feel any force on my heels. This clears my head thanks
If you are doing leg press this way, remember that you most likely will NOT have that level of ankle flexibility. Also you will have to reduce the weight. Else say good bye to the knees.
Where should be the Pad Put? Could anybody explained that? Thx
This is how I fucked up my back once. I had my feet and the pad too high. My lower back arched and the small stabalizer muscles of the lower back experienced too much force. I heard a really loud crack and a very sharp pain. Fortunately, I was using warm-up weight so I could still rack it, but when I got home I collapsed from the pain. It took 2 months to be able to go to the gym again and about 6 months to completely lose the pain in my lower back. Still when I perform exercises in an inproper manner my back quickly reminds me of what happened. It also makes you remind how unimportant it is to look “cool” by lifting heavier weight than the average person at your gym. Set aside your ego and first work on your technique before thinking of increasing the weight, because if you don’t it could scar you for life.
Was it necessary for him to be shirtless when demonstrating how to correctly use the machine?
Will that knees not suffer if they’re traveling far over the toes like that?
Thanks for these tips, especially having the pad angle too high. Made some changes and could feel so much more tension in the quads and adductors. Back on the growth train…
Why dose my low back hurt and feel like it going to go out after this?
My problem with the first mistake (feet too high) is that if my feet are not at the top, my heels pop off the platform at not even a half squat. My acl would explode if I tried to use the technique that this fellow is using in the video. I do go below parallel and can hit the stops at the bottom, and I feel it in my distal quads. I do use weightlifting shoes, and the pad is all the way back. I guess I’ll just try and go as low as possible. My knees also kill me if they go past my toes by very much no matter the movement. Maybe I can work my way into that position. Thanks for the advice Dr. Mike.
I start sweating watching this gives me the chills thinking he will break his legs
This whole video is a total joke. Leg presses are for close grip presses and rows if you stand on top of a pull up bar, NOT FOR THESE SILLY LEG EXERCISES!!
Growing up I was told many times that your knees should not extend over your toes, that is how you create patella femoral syndrome. I did not listen, because I was young, and I wanted maximum range of motion. Should be a 90 degree angle. I learned this through experience, now my knees are jacked up from squatting… Knees going past the toes will give you knee problems in the end, unless you plan on taking PED’s for the rest of your life… Lol
The only purpose of the leg press is for quads?!?? So people shouldn’t use a leg press to target glutes?? I think that’s the first time I’ve ever heard that.
I have seen them all.All the trainers youtube fitness gurus, all of them. This man is a treasure.A God send.Truth and humility.
Thanks Mike. You the man. Took a lot of fine tuning tips out of this.
Now let’s see that with some decent weight. Less talk more weight.
What would you advise if my knees get very achy/sore after leg press, despite the correct positioning of feet. Is this normal, or should I be concerned?
Awesome stuff Brother!!! Breaking it down barney style, love it… I watch videos to refresh stay focused and you do an amazing job!!!! Great knowledge in simple terms!!!
Is it ok to let your legs go back further instead of doing it to a right angle?
One thing I noticed right at the beginning is when he placed his feet lower, he immediately began allowing his knees to extend FAR past his toes. For many years I’ve been told that’s a big no-no as it puts a lot of stress on the knee (and I can vouch for the accuracy lol). The reason I go around mid way is to keep a balance between the safe RoM and still hitting the quads (vs more the hamstrings). Just watching that first bit made my knees hurt.
Hey guys, greatly appreciate your videos! However, I’ve noticed you tend to let that intro song a bit longer than it should. I’d suggest you try to cut it shorter cause in many videos it still plays when Mike starts speaking.
All the best and I am really grateful for all the info you’re putting out there!
Excellent video.. pulled his pant leg looks like he’s stolen some select cuts of meat
Never lock your legs out, if you have heavy weight you can snap your leg in half
Hey fuck, put pants on so we don’t have to see you skip leg day.
I am surprised by all the stuff I didn’t know about the leg press before watching this video.
Why is only purpose of legpress build quads? Thats so bullshit:D You contradicting yourself in the video saying dont put legs too high when you can target hams and glutes by that. Also if quad is domintating force in your movement (like sissy squat for example) its not healthy for your knees.
That’s a beautiful piece of equipment. I’ve never seen a leg press like that…ever.
What comes to feet placement.. put it in a position similar to the squat or DL is a good approach to hypertrophy? and for strengh? Are there connections in these movments? Thanks!
tom platz said in a video, that he did legpress just for the fotoshooting, if you wanna build up your legs then you have to do squats and hak-squats….so you wanna say that all pro bodybuilders which do quarter reps on the legpress are doing it wrong 😉
The dude doing leg press got no legs #chickenLegs #nolegdayswastrained
I can only see these as mistakes is if you want to target quads and your feet are high, then it’s a mistake. but if your feet are high and you want to target hamstrings/glutes. Then it’s not a mistake right? It’s like a high bar, low bar position on a squat. Only wrong if it’s not working your desired target muscle
Ouch just thinking about people who hyperextends gives me chills
Tried the leg press last night and the toughest thing for me was not locking my knees cause I kept wanting to fully extend. thanks to this video I now know how to do it right:D
Mike, I have access to a Smith Machine and a Hack Squat (and of course a Power Rack for Barbell Squats).
PLEASE, Mike, can you make a video like this one for Hack Squats and/or Smith Machine squats as well? I know you are squatting in a Smithmachine quite often as well!?
Much respect from the Netherlands!
Should you contract the transverse abdominus while doing these or does it not matter?
Somehow I’m a bit scared of this machine. The abdominal pressure it creates coupled with the crazy loading it allows you to means I think (and I’m not sure ) it could be detrimental and make you prone to hernias
So do all of these points apply exactly to a Squat Press machine as well? Obviously it’s similar to a Leg Press, but the path of the foot plate is on an arc rather than a strait line and at least for my gym, the back pad isn’t adjustable.
I started doing leg presses but my balls kept hitting the platform….I got used to the pain and now I basically use my nuts to sort of bounce the platform up as I explode upward. All with very very strict form of course. If your nads are small you can get a fuller range of motion. Great video. Signed: Max Swolegainz
I’ve tried leg press a long time ago and I felt so much presure in my knees that I instantly stopped. Today after watching this I decided to give the leg press another try and it felt great! It’s so useful since I have bad knees and even small mistakes in posture agravate them so I have to be really picky with what exercises I choose. Thanks a lot I am really looking forward to see the results of this exercise on my legs. Never skip leg day!
Hey guys I need a 3XL any available in stock for tank top or T shirts?? I’m traveling soon I need gear
#1 high feet i like for focusing on glutes and hamstrings, people say back flexion is bad but intentionally incorporating that fixed my lower back pain, my hypothesis is that its creating traction similar to reverse hyper but even if not it still helps me
Feet placed higher will activate more hamstring.
Feet lower will activate more quadriceps.
Great video although not so sure about the ‘knees not to go past the shin in squat comment’
See someone like Chad Wesley Smith or or someone doing Oly squats.
Valid point though regarding the leg press.
Man I tried not to comment but leg machine has so many angle can be hit and its preferences based on how you feel, different hight, different target difference in machines design just putting limits in wrong and right sometimes it make it worse, muscle mind contaction will help more than robots instruction.
Perfect, could you please make a video about how to train or what to do now when having shoulder impingement?
Great info. I thought you would speak more about how to target different parts of the quad or all foot positions target all areas of the quads equally?
Been doing this exercise since 2015 but I’m always searching for that “perfect” form (for my body) this helps for sure Thanks
All this damn time you’re telling me that I can actually adjust the foot part??? I didn’t know that it was adjustable
I’d kill for a leg press with a double slat angle that he’s saying is commin. In dozens of gyms I’ve been to, not a single one has that. This makes that foot angle next to impossible for anyone with lower ankle mobility.
my complex’s gym is all i have access to and they only have a basic horizontal leg press. Can I still get any gains on that thing? any tips?
Just earned a sub. Cant wait till the gyms reopen to change my feet position. thank you.
I was always just told 90 degrees because any thing else just goed into gluets which leg press isnt meant for glutes as squat is
Wow. Super helpful video. You talked about locking out the legs. What’s your take on not locking out the legs during leg press (stopping just before) and maintaining the tension throughout the set (8-12 reps or so)? Thanks!
Definitely the best alternative if you have back issues that prevent you from heavy squats
Not gonna lie, I can’t tell what Dr. Mike is talking for #2 the hip thing. I get that we don’t want the hips to fold under, but I can’t see it or tell if I am doing it lol.
Yeah, full ROM mantra. I get a way better pump from the half reps. But I focus on the middle half of the ROM, never lock out and never let the knees too close to the body. Less stress on the joints, and constantly in muscle tension.
With full ROM, just like with squats, I get tired before my muscles do.
Can you recommend someone to follow who’s like you but for aerobic performance?
what about opening up the hips like a squat?my quads are still the limiting factor but i fell the glutes and adductors working as well, feels better for the knees as well
Great instruction on a basic exercise. I got into the habit of going back to 90 degrees at my knees (no deeper), either to protect my joints or to avoid leg press becoming a glute exercise. Since I can lighten the weight, is my form too conservative? (P.S. At age 65, I don’t aim to do squats or risk lower back.)
Hey, I broke my leg about 7 months ago, and my left ankle mobility only allows me to put my feet higher on the pads. Any suggestions for a fix?
Can you do a video on dumbell or barbell shrugs. I wanna get my trap game going.
The best leg press technique is one that is safety focused and geared towards protecting your knees and ligaments, so you can do this exercise late into your life. In addition to being a good muscle builder it’s a great cardiovascular exercise. Probably its best benefit.
i know its no a technique thing but i feel you shouldve mention the mistake of not using the spotter bars, ive seen a lot of nasty things happen because people fail and cant rerack it so they get stapled because they didnt set the safeties. see the same problem on smith machines people forget they have safety arms
While he’s NOT talking, pls turn down the stupid music. I have to turn up/down volume during the whole video. Not good
Moji do weights need to be balanced on machines like leg press? Because I believe it doesn’t because it’s a single pad. I’ve been on life fitness equipment, hoist, and cybex. Ie: if I place 45lbs on the left it isn’t for my left quad it’s the total weight.
Love doing leg presses. Definitely one of the exercises people tend to cheat often without realizing. Thanks for the refresher.
The range of motion seems really short. Perhaps I am doing too much ROM.
Very clear and understanding video! Ps Don’t Skip Leg Day:)
hey guys I’m a young kid who just uploaded my first YouTube video on my YouTube Channel. Please go check it out let me know what you guys think, I am trying to become someone in this world thanks!
