The quadriceps femoris consists of four individual muscles; three vastus muscles and the rectus femoris. They form the main bulk of the thigh, and collectively are one of the most powerful muscles in the body. Could you please do the face ( eyes and nose) and the scalp!?
Sir ur videos are really fantastic .. It’s very useful for us.. Thnq very much for ur videos sir ☺ and we r xpecting more videos like this for anatomy sir
hats off to your work this video made me v.easy to remember the muscles
Great sir!! It’s gets so easy after watching ur lecture vdos…..
thank you so much for these videos!! i dont usually understand things the 1st time around but just watching one of your videos once helps me feel way more prepared. so just know that your definately making a difference:)
These videos are fantastic!! Helped me more than any professor, book, app, website or journal. Simple, but informative!
posterior compartment is not etensor compartment its flexor compartment he got it wrong!
but anways keep doing the good work it helps us alot!
thanks
Thanku sir
Bt sir plz muscle origin nd insertions ND nerve supply bhi btayi
THIS IS GREAT THANKS FOR SHARING…BY THE WAY WHERE DID U GET THE SKELETON FROM IS THERE A THING I CAN DOWNLOAD…PLEASE REPLY BACK
Anatomy tutorials, great and easy to understand. Thanks for Uploading, Ur legend.
good one.. its funny in india its more easy to get cadaveric specimens than these models
Very nice video bt ir voice is not listening properly plz correction it
شكرا جزيلا لك يا دكتور بصراحة انت رائع للغاية ، تحياتي لك من اليمن
Thank you Sir, This really helped me for my exams. Keep up the good work:)
sartorius femoral muscle left groin is my pivotal pain issue. Pressing downward & raising pelvis IP or down while tightening muscle can be felt by pressure of the thumb but it doesn’t pip back in place. Worried as it hinders range of motion & sciatic knee pain at times & discourages walking.
Great videos Anatomy zone they are really helping me study. One slight issue, isn’t the pectineus muscle supposed to be in the Anterior compartment of the thigh?
amazing video.. it would have been really good if the text was a bit larger
plz make these subtitles colored and a bit small thansk i love your lectures sir
A great video and very helpful, especially showing the origins and insertions on the 3D model, thanks:)
i must say with the current curriculum allowing only pre disected bodies, your work is no lesss than a treasure for medical students
yeah the articularis genu is in the anterior compartment (didn’t include it here because it’s not shown in the software). For anyone else that is interested, the articularis genu originates distally on the anterior surface of the femur and inserts onto the top of the suprapatella bursa. It moves this bursa upwards and out of the way of the patella when the knee is being extended. The muscle is sometimes blended into the fibres of the vastus intermedius.
brilliant but can u explain in detail the blood supply and innervations??
0:25 U said that the posterior compartment is the extensor compartment while in the caption is written the flexor compartment. Please read well hahahahahaha
Again superb and full of knowledge video’s back to back really appreciate your work brother keep uploading awesome videos. You deserve more subscribers best of luck gbu bro. please upload a video on shoulder anatomy #catalystuniversity
now i know why indian are geneous in medicine.. their medical study are amazing
You should add some tags on to the video, it would get WAYYY more views, they are great.
HAHA!! You’re terrible at this! Isolate the muscles one time for each and then show them as a group, man! You didn’t even properly show the origin of the vastus intermedius! It’s almost like you were obsessed with the sartorius muscle!
Thank you so much for your video. This is great for revision!
Shouldn’t the anterior compartment be flexor and the posterior compartment be extensor? Moving the thigh backwards isn’t extension and moving it forwards flexion? At least that’s how I’ve always studied. Anyway, nice tutorial.
Watched all your videos for my musculoskeletal exam on Monday. Bless you!
hello great work thank you for ur videos, i have a question though isnt articularis genu a part anterior compartment of thigh muscles?
So this muscle made Usain Bolt the fastest man in the world.
You’ve been a great help, truly. Thank you for sharing, by the way. This program should come in handy.
Greetings. Enjoy it all. My cousin’s muscles grew quick as though he was injecting anabolic steroids. Funny… Turns out this man is not! The man developed 29 pounds of muscle. I’ve consistently battled to develop muscles. He made use of the Muscle Building Bible (google or bing it)
I prefer classify in two compartment: 1) Anteriuslateral 2) Postmedial. I don’t agrre about the fact you say that rectus is the most superficial. Sartorius is clearly more superficial than rectus
Thank you! I am so grateful that I stumbled on this great series of videos. Your presentation style is lucid. I cannot begin to tell you how helpful this is being to me.
Very informative, thanks! I’m brushing up for an anatomy exam tomorrow and this is just what I was looking for:)
Sartorius (from Latin, sartor, meaning tailor) the ‘tailor muscle’ because of the way tailors in the 18th century sat, in a cross-legged position
blood supply and innervation will be covered in a couple more tutorials when I get round to it!:)
Spelled muscle wrong in the thumbnail. But great video though!
I absolutely LOVE your video! I am a patient, not a professional health care worker. I have been a horse jumping trainer for 40 years and have incredibe debillitating pain now. Your video will make it possible for me to expain to my doctor where I feel the pain begins. Thank you so much! You made leg anatomy easier to understand! It’s been Sartorius spasms!!!
thanks Charlie, yes sometimes they can take a long time to put together! But so long as they are helping people out, it is rewarding!
This might seem strange, but his energetic knowledgeable voice made it easy to learn. Most anatomy videos have boring people speaking.
Anterior Extensor
Medial Flexor
Posterior Extensor also?
Why u didn’t mention to the pectineous muscle? u said there is 5 muscles in this compartment, but you explained 4 only
As a new study suggest the quadriceps femoris composed from five heads, if you want to understand better the relationship between the fifth muscle of quadriceps named Tensor of Vastus inter mediums and the adjacent muscles please check the study below

The way to teach is absolutely good…and that 3 D animated video is easy to understand well
https://www.AnimatedAnatomy.com/ ✅ This is my website where you can purchase my software and all of the lessons.
Thank you for this video it helps me a lot!! I’m a medical student from Malaysia:)
great job thanx a lot, I’ve been recommending your channel for my colleagues.
I suggest you just write the name of the muscle on the screen simultaneously with pronouncing it, or on a list at the end of the video, so that we know the way they are spelled correctly.
thanx again.
This was very helpful for me to quickly brush up on some anatomy. Thanks!
Anterior compartment (Extensor)
Posterior compartment(flexor)
Great tutorial
please show some short note aside while you present…so that i can write down
Hello, hello! It has been a joy working on this new 3D anatomy video on the functions of the vastus lateralis. Check out our website for the entire collection of videos on the functions of the muscles of the thigh and lower leg in 3D. Even without becoming a Kenhub Premium member, you can still learn anatomy with us. So check out this free article on the anatomy of the quadriceps femoris: https://khub.me/z2ua6 Thanks for watching!
posterior compartment is flexor compartment right?thank you so much for the tutorial….
No problem, hope it was helpful and thanks for the comment:)
Hey. My school friend’s physique grew really fast, as though he had been using steroid drugs. LOL… Turns out this man wasn’t! The guy obtained 33lbs of lean muscle. I’ve constantly struggled to build muscle mass. My friend tried the Muscle Building Bible (google or bing it)
0:21 ” sartiorius insertion at anterior inferior *ischial* spine” should be “Iliac”
Thank you for the videos! I have your software on my smart phone and use it to help me study the muscles! I had no idea it was you who created it…that was a bonus! Thank you for helping me!
MAP OF Sciatica
This is the mnemonic for learning the nerve supply of thigh
M-Medial O-Obturator nerve
A-Anterior FFemoral nerve
P-Posterior Sciatic nerve
Hope this makes sense and helps somebody learn the nerve supply
hi there the application I am using here is available free on the internet. Just Google Zygote Body!:)
if you people are looking for to get ripped prompt without spending a one extra minute in the gym, then you must watch this video tutorial SIXPP.COMHe jumped to the adjacent table and America squealed and clapped, elbowing me. I shook my head; I had died and woken up in High School Musical.

dude if you could Origins, Insertions, and Actions that would be amazing!!
Thank you so much for posting these videos! I am familiar with creating videos like this and truly appreciate the hard work you put into these.
I love these videos. I wish I could find a practitioner with your knowledge and experience.
Something makes it super hard for me to rotate my right leg outwards. Whenever I try to rotate my leg outwards I get tight and sometimes painful sensations on the inside of my right leg, from just below the bony prominence of the hip bone(?) down to just above the knee. Just above the knee is actually super tender and sore to the touch. My glute medius and TFL are very tight and sore as well.
I hope I can find a practitioner that can help me soon. It is becoming very debilitating.
Thanks for the video and slow, clear pronunciation and focus. I found the source of my leg pain, a probable tear in the vastus lateralis upper section from lack of warming up. Second time I’ve had it in a few years. Of course I’ll consult a doc, but this video helped give me an idea. Good work.
Thanks. I just get sore legs from work and wanted to know what the leg muscles look like and do. Thank you for doing this! Cheers to you.
Hi!:) I love these videos, theyre really informative. Just one question, you said that the sartorius flexes at the knee joint and hip joint, i thought it would help extend?? thank you
Dear sir, my feet mascal bite. I am currently experiencing a lot of problems. Can I get my solution? It’s good to see your video.
Well done. amazing video! really helped me with my anatomy studies
Thank you so much! I’m vietnamese! So the videos like this are useful for me to pronunciate antomical details!
How does the fucntion of thr vastus lateralis differ from the function of the vastus medialis?
Would the Articularis Genu be responsible for the clicking or snagging when extending at the knee joint?
Love the videos! I agree with @Basma Dash in that you should add the terminology at the bottom of the screen to help with learning the names of the muscle!
Nice work! Does the vastus lateralis also perform hip flexion?
