This is an unbiased Visual Impact Muscle Building review by someone who has fully completed all 3 phases of the program. Many reviews are written by people who have just skimmed through the manual and have never actually tried the workouts. This review is different; it is written to expose the truth behind Visual Impact and see whether or not it really works.
This program was designed by Rusty Moore who is a fitness expert that focuses on building that lean, ripped, and muscular physique and obtaining the “shrink wrap effect” by using lean muscle workouts. More information on the shrink wrap effect is provided below.
What is Visual Impact Muscle Building?
This is the only fitness program I know of that does not involve getting bulky and overly muscular like a professional bodybuilder. Rather, it focuses on developing an adequate amount of muscle in places where it is needed while maintaining functional fitness and very little body fat. Simply put, it focuses on how to gain lean muscle.
What is “Functional Fitness”?
Chances are you’ve seen photos of bodybuilders who are excessively bulky. You know, the guys with biceps bigger than the size of your head? Well, it’s likely they aren’t as agile and nimble as before.
Due to its sheer size, the muscle impedes movement and prevents them from having a wider range of motion. This is very noticable with actions involving rotations and contractions such as those seen in volleyball or martial arts.
Most (but not all) bodybuilders also have reduced speed and agility due to the extra weight from their muscles.
Can This Program Help Me Build Muscle?
Undeniably, Visual Impact will show you how to build lean muscle. It’s the muscle minus the fat and unnecessary bulk; you will get a more lean and defined appearance.
This is more about looking like Ryan Gosling, Ryan Reynolds and Jean-Claude Van Damme. These are perfect examples of lean, muscular Hollywood celebrities that women go crazy for.
Basically, if you’re trying to look like 2011 Mr. Olympia Phil Heath, then this program is not for you.
Is This Program Suitable for Someone like Myself?
Visual Impact Muscle Building is for someone who wants to build that lean, athletic muscular physique. It doesn’t matter whether you’re a mesomorph like me (one who’s naturally skinny with high metabolism) and wants to add muscle or bulky and wants to burn excess fat to increase muscle tone.
This program works for everyone including athletes because it not only builds that lean, muscular physique, but maintains functional fitness. The muscle you build not only looks good, but has real strength behind it.
Depending on your current body type, you’ll simply start at a different phase of the program.
Does Visual Impact Muscle Building Work? Is it a Scam?
For myself, Phase 3 of the program was by far the best fat burning and muscle defining routine I’ve ever performed.
Not only did it finally bring my body fat down to less than 10%, but it maintained my muscle mass while increasing my strength.
With other programs, I was able to lose body fat but also lost muscle mass and strength in the process. I highly recommend any martial artist, fighter, or model to utilize this phase to cut weight before competition.
How Does It Work?
The program is divided into 3 phases which last 2 months each. It also includes a very unique bonus phase that you won’t find anywhere else.
Phase 1 – Rapid Muscle Development
- Focuses on gaining as much muscle mass as possible in the places where it is needed most
Phase 2 – Increase Muscle Strength and Definition
- Develops muscle size and strength
- Ideal for athletes who want functional muscle but also add a bit of size
Phase 3 – The Shredding Phase
- Emphasizes strength development while burning body fat with interval training
- Increases the density and tone of your muscles for maximum definition
Bonus Phase – The Shrink Wrap Effect
- Focuses on getting an extremely tight, defined physique after losing body fat by quickly gaining muscle to fill in the loose skin
What’s Included?
The Visual Impact Muscle Building PDF/eBook itself includes 15 informative chapters explaining the science behind the techniques involved in simple laymen’s terms so that anyone can understand it.
In addition to the manual, there is an exercise guide with detailed text and images which is over 200 pages.
And of course, there are organized charts that can be used to refer to the routines, rep ranges, and instructions for each phase.
What I Liked About This Program
Rusty provides solid scientific evidence to support his claims which is something that many other fitness programs fail to provide. In particular, his special report on the evidence behind supplements helped to correct my misguided opinions and finally improve my diet.
As a full time student working side jobs, I often felt overwhelmed. It took only an upcoming deadline or a bad day at work to completely throw my life out of balance. This was where Visual Impact came in handy.
The program provides a set of lean muscle workouts and a nutrition plan to follow. As a result, there’s no need to think about which exercises you should be doing or what you should be eating on any specific day.
There’s no need to obsess over taking multivitamins, eating 6-8 meals a day, or worry about losing muscle when on vacation. Why workout if you can’t even enjoy yourself?
The Bottom Line
Here’s the truth: Muscle size is directly related to strength gains.
It doesn’t matter if you get pumped and sore after a workout, nor does it make a difference if you reach failure on each set or not. The only thing that matters is – are you getting stronger?
Since starting Visual Impact, my muscles have increased significantly in both size AND strength.
Before starting the program, I could barely bench 135 lbs or deadlift 150 lbs. By phase 2, I was benching 225 lbs and deadlifting 295 lbs without a problem.
The program doesn’t just teach you how to get in shape, but also how to stay in shape. It is by far the fastest way to build lean muscle.
What Could Be Improved
I was impressed with the amount of high quality content that was included. For only $47, it’s definitely worth it.
But if I were to choose something that I felt was missing, it would have to be more High Intensity Interval (HIIT) exercises. However, this is hardly a concern since you can do my HIIT routine to mix things up. I also found that the nutritional information wasn’t as detailed as I would have liked. I would have preferred to see more meal plans and food variations.

Concluding my Review
With scientific evidence supporting everything that was taught, I was thoroughly impressed with this program. If you’re looking for that fit, athletic appearance with lean, defined muscle, then this product is definitely for you.
You really have nothing to lose; this product has a 60-day money-back guarantee with no questions asked and costs much less than a personal trainer.
You’ll learn many fitness and nutrition tips that you can apply for the rest of your life which I highly doubt even your personal trainer knows about. This is the only workout program you’ll ever need.
Visual Impact for Women
Rusty has also created a program designed specifically for women to help them get that slim, fit and sexy look. I ordered this program to help my sister get in shape for her trip to Hawaii.
With a 229 page manual describing each exercise and printable workout charts for every routine, I was blown away. There is nothing else that can compare when it comes to helping women get that slim, sexy physique – without getting bulky!
This is a program for women who want to look fit while still looking amazing in a dress and 100% feminine.

Thanks for sharing exceptional information. Your web-site is really cool. I’m impressed by the details which you have on this internet web site. It reveals how nicely you perceive this topic. Bookmarked your blog, will come back for extra articles. You, my pal, ROCK! I found the info I actually needed. What a perfect site.
I’m interested in Visual Impact (am now up to about 183 lbs, but 16% BF at 6’1?) – my goal is 180 lbs, less than 10% BF. But what about diet – I know enough that I could come up with my own to start and modify as I go, but are there guidelines for each phase (cals; protein, carb, fat %, etc)? Thanks.
Yes phase 1 and 2 are more relaxed in terms of calorie intake. Rusty recommends a small 250-500 calorie surplus to ensure muscle gain with minimal fat gain. As well as sufficient protein intake: 1 gram of protein per pound of bodyweight.
For phase 3 he recommends keeping calorie intake low. 10 calories per pound of goal body weight. So if you want to be 180 lbs then you would eat only 1800 calories per day. This is very strict and I like to go ~300 calories above this number.
Hey Kenneth,
I’ll be finishing up my third week of Phase 1 on next week and can honestly say that my gains/results in just this short time period have been better than years of NCAA and MLB weight programs that I was on. There’s a lot of small details that Rusty covers that I was never aware of and even professional trainers had never told me.
I was wondering if I should take longer breaks with pull ups? This exercise tends to be taxing on my arms and 45 secs isnt really enough to recover. Or should I just stop being a wuss and deal with it? The rest of my work out today was awesome!
If you’re looking to increase your performance with pull ups, your best bet is to perform a high volume of sets without reaching failure. Perform multiple sets, stopping 1-2 reps before muscular failure with 2 minutes of rest in between each set.
So I don’t have any free weights or barbells and was curious what you would suggest for body weight exercises that would help increase my chest size. I hope push-ups aren’t the only option. Would I have to do a high amount of reps to stimulate more growth?
To build your chest, two body weight exercises I would recommend are dips and elevated push ups (with your feet raised on a chair). To increase the difficulty, you can improvise by wearing a backpack and add books as weights. Past the 12 rep range, muscular endurance takes priority over muscle growth. So it’s best to keep your exercises in the 8-12 rep range if you’re aiming to build size.
Loving the articles and workouts you’re posting man, doing a stellar job and providing quality info. I have a question about the shrink wrap effect, as I’m about to start it. My results from the first couple of phases have been awesome so I really want to keep up the trend.
It was recommended to maintain the phase 3 diet. So would it be better to still workout in a fasted state? So far, I’ve been following the routine and taking whey protein pre and post workout (training in the morning), waiting about an hour before eating breakfast.
I was curious if this method of training would lead to muscle loss since I’m pushing to failure. If so, how can I avoid this?
Thanks again.
Hi Eric,
Great to hear you’ve been getting good results! During the shrink wrap phase, I would actually increase the caloric intake to about 13-15 calories/pound of body weight. The concept is to maintain your current lean muscle mass and increase the glycogen stores in your muscle by eating more carbs. You ideally want to aim for 1-1.5 g of carbs/pound of body weight. Majority of this should be eaten during post workout nutrition.
thanks for the review.. i just have a question.
i am 15 years old. will this program work for me? i am currently maintaining at 3500 calories. i am 160 lbs. 10% bf. the calorie formula told me to eat about 2600 calories.. how will this make me gain muscle?
thank you
Yes, this program can work for anyone, you just have to commit yourself to it. How is your body definition right now? At 10% body fat, I assume you’re quite lean? If your goal is to gain ~10 lbs muscle and you workout around 6-8 hours a week, 3500 calories is fine. If you find yourself getting chubby, simply back off by 400-500 calories.
At 15, your metabolism is probably as fast as it’s ever going to be. However, still be cautious with how many calories you ingest. If you’re ingesting more than you burn off, the excess calories will just get stored as fat. And remember, the fat cells that are created never disappear . In fact, you can ingest ~2600 calories and still build muscle mass if you are training properly and eating the right foods. Ingest a source of high quality whey protein after your workout and get a total of 0.5-0.6 g/lb of protein from all sources (food + shake) each day. For you, that’ll be about 80-96 g of protein per day.
Kenneth! Since you’ve read Visual Impact, does the program work for women as all? Also, have you read Eat Stop Eat by Brad Pilon?
Hey Sambar,
It’s funny you asked that because I was just planning on writing a small blurb about it. The author actually created a separate program that caters specifically to women! If you want to learn more about Visual Impact for Women, I’ve added a link and a quick description of it at the bottom of my review .
As for Eat Stop Eat, I haven’t read into it, but I’ve definitely heard great things about it. I was even planning on writing an article on intermittent fasting. Have you tried it?
Nice review! I have a question though that I think a lot of people would find to be important. How long does each daily routine last on average for this program? I am looking for something that doesn’t take more than an hour a day out of my busy schedule. Preferably something around the 30-40 minute mark is ideal for me.
Thanks in advance!
Hi Roger,
Each routine will take you approximately 40-50 minutes. In this program, you apply the principle of “cumulative fatigue” which means you are only resting 45-60 seconds between sets. At this rate, the workouts move a lot quicker and you’ll notice muscle gains much faster. Personally, I’m not a fan of long workouts either. I only have an hour between classes so being able to fit in a workout from Visual Impact is great if you’re short on time.
How much muscle can I expect to put on with this program?
That all depends on your goal and how much effort you put in. Rusty provides a formula which can be used to determine how many calories you need to ingest to reach your goal muscle mass. For myself, after phase 1, I had put on roughly 10 lbs of pure muscle mass which was my intended goal. Combining the workouts with the right number of calories will allow you to reach your target regardless.
