During the tendon avulsion repair, the surgeon will pull the hamstring muscles back into their original position and cut away any scar tissue at the ruptured end. The tendon will then be reattached to the bone with staples and/or stitches.Pulled hamstrings, for instance, can sideline a player for several weeks, and the injury has a tendency to recur.
Hamstring strains and tears aren’t seen only in baseball, however.Torn hamstring treatment depends on the grade of your injury. In general, treatment options include: RICE method.
The RICE method is the first line of.Rest and recovery from a hamstring injury. Recovering from a hamstring injury may take days, weeks or months, depending on how severe it is. A completely torn hamstring may take several months to heal and you’ll be unable to resume training or play sport during this time.
Apply Ice: Ice packs or chilled reusable gel packs are strongly recommended first aid treatments as per the University of Buffalo Sports Medicine group. These can be applied at the time of pulled hamstring, while resting at home. For the first 3 days, you need to apply the ice for 20 minutes, three times in a day.
After the injury, you might notice some swelling and bruising in the area. It may also be difficult to walk on the injured leg because the hamstring will be weak. From there, diagnosis gets a little more in-depth because there are three different grades of muscle strains. Grade 1. The first grade of muscle strain is the least serious.A pulled hamstring muscle occurs when the muscle fibers are overstretched or subjected to a force too strong for the muscle to withstand, according to Harvard Health Publishing.
Depending on the severity of the injury, a few muscle fibers may be torn or the entire muscle might tear in half.Newer treatments such as platelet-rich plasma (PRP) may offer some hope to those suffering from lingering hamstring injuries. In this treatment, the patient’s own plasma is.R stands for Rehabilitation which is a really important part of the treatment for a hamstring injury to get you back to normal and reduce the chances of you having another hamstring injury. You may need to see a physiotherapist or sports therapist for advice about the exercises to do but there is an outline below.
Strengthening your hamstrings is one way to protect against hamstring strain. In severe cases where the muscle is torn, you may need surgery. The surgeon will repair the muscles and reattach them.
Apply an ice pack once an hour. Use a cold pack, or wrap ice in a wet towel, and place it on the injury site. Leave this on for 10 to 15 minutes, then take it off.
Repeat this once an hour during the day you pulled your hamstring.Proper conditioning is critical when returning from hamstring strain injuries. A fatigued hamstring is a weak one, and this can make it susceptible to re-injury. Conditioning of the muscle itself is just as important as the cardiovascular system.
The hamstring needs to be repeatedly conditioned for max velocity running gait. The first goal of treatment is to prevent the injury from becoming worse. A person can rest the tendon by avoiding repetitive activities, especially the activity that caused the injury.
For most people, using the RICE method (rest, ice, compression, and elevation) for 72 hours is enough to treat symptoms. Ice causes blood vessels to constrict, reducing blood flow and, in.In the rare case of a distal avulsion, in which the hamstring tendon has torn away from the tibia or fibula, a patient may experience significant bruising and thickening of soft tissue that can be felt near the site of the injury, which results in an inability to walk without assistance.

Ok but what about the lower hamstrings? You guys are leaving it out
thank you soo much! ive been needing an answer! ill try that!
I strained my hamstring during sprints about a week and a half ago. I haven’t ran any further telhen to get the ball from the backyard, and that pinched it on every step. Should i go back to practice?
Doc used my semi-T and gracilis for an acl repair. Ever since then, I constantly strain my hamstring. I ended up fully ruturing it in October. Any advice? Is surgery an option?
I have a friend with a therogun would that work similar to this method? I have had an ongoing hamstring strain for going on 3 weeks now
Literally injured my hamstring dunking last week and just irritated it again dunking today
I’ve been suffering the high-hamstring strain for months, which has kept me from running. After watching this I ordered the Pure Wave right away. After less than a week, my pain/tightness is GREATLY improved. I also use it for a difficult ankle, which is the injury that lead to my hip/hamstring issues in the first place. And, just this morning, during my running club run, a friend was complaining of her hamstring hurting and did I have any advice (do I ever!). I just emailed her the link to this video and the Pure Wave.
I really like these guys. They make me feel carefree, like I’m on Christmas vacation.
Mine started after a very long walk, months down the line its still flares up pain moves up in different spot and down where it affect my inner knee, I was worried incase it was a vein blockage I also get like a creeping sensation in both legs
If it has happened three times you need to get some professional treatment. This usually involves massage and electrotherapy to improve muscle condition and realign scar tissue, as well as a comprehensive strengthening/stretching plan.
Bob and Brad, THANK YOU GUYS SOOOO MUCH. I can’t believe this info is free…you two are awesome together, hilarious as well. Not to mention the information is 1000 sufficient. God bless you 2… Forever subscribed, Nik.
Great video. I have a high hamstring pull from doing yoga for many years. I have been suffering for about 8 months with this high hamstring injury. I am finally getting better after no hamstring stretching, some icing and doing some some hamstring strengthening exercises. I purchased an electric handheld massager about 3 months ago after seeing your video. The massager has helped a lot, I can now walk with no limping, back to light resistance training and some yoga. I am not doing a lot of hamstring stretches….The high hamstring injury is definitely harder to heal……patience and keep moving…it will gradually heal…..It has been a pain in the butt! Thanks for your video.
Hi, I’m a cyclist and I have a popping sensation in a hamstring tendon near the medial side of knee at the bottom of my pedal stroke (20-30 degree extension). There isn’t any pain associated with it, just an annoyance. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks
what if the tear is on the biceps femoris attachment on the lateral side of the knee, I have been doing strengthing and stretching 3 weeks now and it’s been many months since I first injured it. it seems very difficult to get rid if completely
I did the splits accidentally, and it’s been sore every day for three years
I would love to get a video of you guys breaking down a way for me to initially self diagnose a hamstring injury. It is my first time getting one and I am not sure if I have a low level, mid level or high level one. What would be some signs for each level.
Thanks a bunch for posting the videos. I new to my 30’s and still trying to stay active on the basketball court.
Very nice useful video sir. What’s your opinion about using ultrasound for hamstring tendonitis
felt what it feels like to tear a hamstring literally an hour from me writing this. Was sprinting full speed and actually thought it was my bone that broke. Anyways, how long can it take to heal? I can’t walk well right now or even fully stretch my leg when trying to walk normal. Trying to stand is also painful. Terrible pain. Terrible limp
I did not understand the treatment he recommended. Nordic something.
My hamstring tendon just got injured from over stretching. Near the sit bone. Was stretching daily to get front split faster. Sucks that the hamstring got injured. How do I stretch safely? I’m thinking alternate days.. the foam roller doesn’t hit the hamstring tendon. I’m using a hard wooden ball to reach that small spot of the hamstring tendon.
I hurt my hamstring about 6 weeks ago., at first I thought it was sciatica, but my physio says its my hamstring, it hurts right up at the top of my leg where it meets my butt! Its still very sore, I did stretch it initially but now I’m trying not to. My problem is I don’t drive and live halfway up a mountain. Its really painful everytime I walk uphill or upstairs, its ok going downhill or on the flat. Any suggestions please, Its driving me mad. I’m 71 years old, reasonably fit amd flexible. Thanks.
I think i have hamstring for 3.5 months (all this time i still use to have activity). After i do something active or pull, lift something big from the groud it hurts all day. I take a talon to doctor. Can use activity or i should stop? This nervous me!
Most hamstring injuries that happen in sport are do to muscle imbalances. Especially if you hanve an anterior pelvic tilt.
Used a foam roller, bout cried. Had my wife look at my thigh…bruised up! Not good
I over did it on the treadmill. Very informative thanks fellas.
Thanks a lot gentlemen. I got injury more than a year and I didn’t get any help from my doctor. That is really nice thanks a lot
I slipped up and have damaged my hamstring but don’t know how bad, it’s been 3 days and still very painful and when I lay they I can’t feel popping in my bum cheek which my bum hurts the most does anyone how bad it might be?
Was it rest a few days
Do the thing with the ball
Cross friction massage
Foam roller exercise
Start jogging?
I’m 11 and I tore mine at athletics day and no one cared and they thought I was being dramatic
Idk what it is what happened to my hamstring but it was both of them and a back injury I slide tackled the ball the player fell on my back and since I tackled it I was in a weird position so I got a hamstring injury but to be fair it was my first time in a while playing football
I hurt my hamstring playing soccer around August 2018. It took months before the severe pain went away. I did get it checked out early on. I was worried I tore it. It’s still been tender for the past couple of months and I’ve been trying to figure out what to do to help speed up the process. Great to hear I’m at stage 3 and that I need to focus on strengthening it. Thanks for the tips!
when i train my legs in the gym and do exercises such as hamstring curls, squats etc… i cannot walk with proper posture for 4 days, the main pain is in my hamstring! it is too painful to stretch and I’m just wondering if this is normal?
My right hamstrings have been hurting while I do yoga for the last 4 months now. It’s lower, closer to the knee. I tried the icing and rolling, but it’s not going away. HELP!!
Thanks for the advice.. I had a Grade 2 hamstring strain and still played for a couple more days of baseball. I’m curious if playing a couple more days, even after getting my hamstring strain, means I’ll have to take more time off?
Hi my detached a year ago, only had an MRI 3 weeks ago. Detached 8cm with some bone. I can now run and box with no pain. Seeing a specialist in 3 weeks. If they could would it worth going for reattachment?
Amazing. I got pain relief within a few minutes of massaging my hamstring! I now feel ready to start rehabbing my hamstring!!! You guys are life savers!
What do you think about walking with high hamstring tendonopathy?
I pulled the one a bit higher than the knee on the inside. Old injury and it’s been 10 years and still hurts like a bitch when I try to do exercises involving stretching hams in split position.
How many weeks into pt should I try using the ball if it hurts at first?
Thanks Bob and Brad
I do not wish to take it easy but I am sure for the best
No more leg day for a while
i pulled my hamstring 3 ties the forth time it healed but i wanna know if it has fully healed what can i do to to get my hamstring stong and going and does creatine and using epsom salt and an ace band help me heal faster
You need to make sure you regain full movement and strength before you think about going back to sports.I would also recommend some sports massage to break down any excess scar tissue and help with flexibility
I pulled mine after walking 5 miles in NYC it hurts like a bitch. The city was a bit and also I ran into a poll and my knee is bruised from it lol whoops
I popped the back of my hamstring by walking up the stairs in my house. I felt a pop behind the inside of my knee. I’ve done this many times because I’m an aerialist and have a lot of scar tissue in my left hamstring. It usually takes a few weeks and then I’m fine. It’s been 6 weeks and it’s not better. I don’t get the sharp pains much anymore but I get burning like someone lit the back of my hamstring on fire. I don’t know why so I’m afraid to get back to exercise. I’ve never had this before. It’s so weird. I’ve been rolling it with my foam roller but don’t know if it’s time to work on rehab exercises yet or not. I’ve done the rest and ice, etc. Any idea why it’s burning?
I havnt been able to move properly in years im sure its hamstrings so I’m using a roller a few times a day thanks guys your wizards
So you do the opposite with the foam roller? I mean, fase two is across the fibers massage and foam along the fibers?
I have a recurring issue of my bicep femoris popping back and forth during a deep squat as I pass 90 degrees. its usually provoked from deadlifts lunges or deep Leg presses or Squats… and then I will experience the popping for a few weeks everytime i go past 90. the more its provoked the greater the popping sensation and the easier it is to be provoked further (it can pop perhaps before reaching 90 degrees)
i was thinking its popping hamstring syndrome but im not experiencing any pain?!! is there any advice you can give me? any tightness perhaps that can be solved with stretching?
Strained my hamstring after jumping over a barrier in steeplechase. Ouchie!
i can jump, run, walk without any problem but when i stretch leg forward i feel crapping. it’s almost a week. how much more time i need to fully recover.
Was raining and I slipped and accidentally did the splits now I’m in pain watching this trying to heal
I strained my hamstring and have rested for 6 days and started foam rolling today. It doesn’t feel quite as tight but more sore, almost as if I have been working out. Is this normal?
i have torn my hamstring its really hurt but my dream is to become a martial art instructor, i have been trying to stretch out but its just only get worse and i run a lot so is it helpful to the hamstring to heal faster or should i stop? help plz
Hello, this is a nice video. Thanks a lot. Also I have a question. Wonder if you can help me out? I started to play soccer about a year and a half ago and I’ve been getting some tears on both legs, different muscle quite often though. I’m not too sure Why? But I thought it was because probably my legs were not used to it. However I started to go to the gym and and try to do some works out to get my legs stronger but I’ve got injured again and I feel so frustrated. Any advise you guys can tell me to avoid this sort of injuries and What kind of exercises you recommend to get my muscles stronger. Thanks for you help.
Regards,
Igor.
I finally went to see the doctor after the examination he told me I had a hamstring strain. That was my mistake on the first day after I got the injury I did a bunch of stretches and massages which worsen the injury making my leg feel heavy with the worse sharp pain I have ever felt in my life. I have been doing cold water therapy and it feels far better I already the pain has diminished, thank you, I love love love your videos guys! You are both sooo funny omg!
Anyone can help to tell if I have a hamstring injury, so I was stretching my left leg and suddenly felt a “ping” feeling at my hamstrings area around my upper thigh, it felt like a guitar string had broken, is that what it is suppose to feel like? Its not very painful just tender and would hurt a little if I try to stretch that area
Hi, I pulled my hamstring during a cricket game a week ago. I do not see any bruise or scar behind my thighs. I feel niggling pain at the middle of my back thigh while walking. to treat this, I apply ice and have stopped doing any lower body exercise. After a week, the pain has reduced considerably. Can I start doing some strengthening exercises (Front Squats, stretching, etc) now? Also, how long before I should start getting involved actively in sporting activities?
Just do the exercise in Bulletproof Your Hamstrings will save you a lot of time and agony.
Thank you so much for sharing these techniques. I’ve never had a hamstring injury like the one I have now, so I’ll start practicing these.
Those heart surgeons are why we have broken hearts the blondes just slice, dice, and don’t think twice.
Im on my 3rd Day after a hamstring pull. I found my foam roller. And it startet hurt during the double leg cross. How should it feel during a recovery?
If you tore your hamstring would you be able to walk or stand straight?
My hamstring hurts but I don’t know if it’s pulled or teared. How can I find out?
I heard a crack in my hamstring 4-5 months ago when I was doing middle splits. Now I can run and sprint but I seemed to have lost my flexibility completely. My bad leg seems to be better than my good leg now, how can I make it better
It is hard to tell without an examination. If you are still in pain, I suggest going to see a doctor, this way you can have a full exam.
watched this exact video 2 years ago when I first pulled my hammy. Here I am again for the other hamstring smh. Great video, simple yet extremely helpful
i’m a dancer and i literally cannot take any breaks and not stretch idk what to do at this point both of my hamstrings are so incredibly strained that i can’t even get into the splits, when normally i have a pretty decent oversplit
I pulled my hamstring in track and I’ve but out for the past 2 weeks of the club soccer season. I can’t sprint and I only have pain when I’m just sitting (it starts to throb). What can I do to recover before my tournament next weekend?
Old school retired bodybuilder here. I just got a hamstring injury way up by the sit down bone. The pain feels like it is tearing and it burns so hot I see stars! Never had anything like this in my life! I will order the massager. ty
Thanks Bob and Brad. I play football which obviously creates a lot of injuries. Your videos always help me.:)
Thank you. I used the indoor facility for the 1st in over seven weeks, to do 4 drills and 4 accelerations over 10meters with 40 50 strength. though all were lower intensity/velocity.
Planning to do that over the next 5 10 days just to gauge how the hamstring coming along. Am not sure if I will be fit for 4 weeks time though am staying positive.
I’m in 8th grade and was squatting 405 and when I went down and made my way back up I heard a crackling noise on my hamstring. I made my way back up but after it hurt really bad. that’s why I’m here.
THANKS GUYS PLAYING FOOTBALL. FIRST TIME HURTING IT PUT ICE PACTHCH EVREY HOUR. FOR 20 MINTS. ITS 3 DAY CAN I MESSAGE NOW.
I am 52 pulled hammy, gluteal muscle when slipped in socks on floor and ended up doing the splits. I am somewhat flexible but couldn’t walk for a few days. Now, when I sit it on butt it hurts very bad after a bit. I am in constant pain, somewhat tolerable at times, not so much at others. My butt pops when I bend forward in the middle of buttocks. HELP. I haven’t seen a Dr. due to cost.
Have you ever had anyone pull their hamstring right behind the knee??
It took me six months, its no where near the same, I still have to stretch it so much
I play flag footbal and I believe I have a minor injury on my hamstring. What can I do to be sure I can return to play? It´s been 2 days since the injury and I can elevate my leg and jog without pain.
I was exercising and my hamstring muscles got so tight and it hurt badly
Are you sure it is a hamstring strain? Did it start with a sudden pain when running, or did it develop more gradually? It might be back or buttock related.
I had hamstring pain once, so bad that both my hamstrings were in pain.
ive had a tear for almost a year. its like a cramp that never goes away
While on a motorcycle ride I noticed severe cramping in the back of my thigh. I stopped to stretch and consider calling it a day. Without any warning I have a lightning bolt of pain in the same back area of the thigh. I lost my balance and the bike fell on the charley horse thigh. 1 month later it have been determined that I have 2 of 3 hamstrings have been torn from the bone. The 3rd is torn by hanging on. Are my motorcycle days behind me?
I injured my hamstring about 4 weeks ago. had some light bruising below the injury. Stayed off of it for a while. I am able to run again and touch my toes again but there is still some weakness(no pain though) and a bit of tightness when i squat down and twist. How long until its completely normal? Thanks
i injured my hamstring 3 times in 2 months. It happens when i run max speed.what should i do?When can i be sure that it is time for sprint.
hey, I have a patient with ischial tuberosity busitis, we’ve been doing graston, on her HS and ischail tuberosity, lots of hamstring stretches, hip flexor stretching, what strengtheing exercises would you recommend? My PT I work under, i’m a pta, never does strengthening to the hamstrings but wouldn’t prone hip extension and supine bridges for the glute max be okay? also, I work in a sports medicine facility, could you recommend any books that would help a new grad out?
Did squats last night and my hamstrings are so sore.. been exactly 24 hrs and earlier it wasn’t sore until the exact 24hrs.. Feel like I’m bout to fall down and feel weak.. I’m I sore or pull something? There’s no pain just feel my legs like shaking when standing and scared to squat down for something or even move my muscle
Hi, I have detached my semitendinosus up to 8cm with some bone a year ago. Had a MRI to confirm about 3 weeks ago. I think it’s too late for surgery? I can now run for half hour and box and Thai box with no pain. Going to the orthopedic dept in a few weeks. Would it be worth trying for surgery? What would long term problems be with a permanent semitendinosus detachment?
Massive thank you fot this video. Found this 6 days after my hamstring tear. Started massaging and it doesnt hurt at all. Stretching is hard though. It feels like im pulling a nerve.
Hello gentlemen! So, would I be able to do cross friction message and do that one strength training exercise everyday for a month. (I have been dealing with a chronic proximal hamstring pull for over six years now) And if I follow the progressions correctly it should be good to go for the maintenance phase? Any feed back from you gentlemen would be greatly appreciated! Thank you very much!
Sports massage can be really helpful for hamstring strain treatment to improve the quality of the scar and stretch out the fibres. This should be done in conjunction with a stretching and strengthening programme. A small amount of discomfort when stretching is quite common, but don’t push it into pain.
Protein does help with muscle healing, however you should be able to get enough in your normal diet unless you are restricted in meat and egg intake for any reason!
Thank you for the tip with the seated one it gives me a problem when I be driving please give me any recommendations that you can I really would appreciate it
My teacher decided to put me on two 4″ yoga blocks since I was all the way down into the splits. Needless to say the “krrrrrchhhh” it made was a bad mistake. After, even though it hurt I still had 2 hours of dance left and continued. I had to do the splits in one of my dances and for sure regretted it. I am not supposed to dance for 2 weeks but I have a competition so…
i’m not sure if my hamstring is pulled or strained but I can’t forcefully stretch it (like a going up into a handstand or a cartwheel) or go into the splits. It’s like a line of pain down my upper thigh, it’s not the full back of my thigh, i’m not sure if what it is. any advice?
See a sports injury specialist to confirm that the problem is with the hamstring and not a referred pain from the buttock or lower back.
I pulled mine today as I was playing football and slide tackled I got the ball and like a second or 2 after dropped onto me and my hamstring pulled but to be fair it was my first day back in school and I only went out for walks did some exercising and I swear down that guy weighed 500kg
I am 52, very active but do not exercise if that makes sense. It’s on my News Year priority list. Lol I was playing with my 3 yr old grandson today and I got spooked when he took off for the street, at a full blown sprint! He is a crazy baby to say the least. I sprinted after him out of fear and something tore or popped in my hamstring, up under buttocks. I have mild arthritis and hurt everyday. Those over 50 might know what I mean. Something creaks or aches most days I’m pretty tough. I want to LIVE and not be chained to aches, so I push forward determined to put the pain in the background of my mind. I used to focus on it and it was consuming every thought and every choice. Dare say that made it worse. But I reclaimed my life and accepted the changes. But this was different. I knew instantly I was in trouble. I can barely walk and am laying down trying to cope. For me, that’s big. This is excruciating. I am going to ice it and rest the best I can. But what advice can you share that is a symptom that is of a more serious nature? Thank you both. I came back to you after you diagnosed a meniscus tear last year. I had surgery and doing great. Thank you.
I’ve got a big blob of something where the hamstring injury was. What is this and how to get rid of it? About half way thru recovery.
Hey your great do you do any phone consultation zoom
Let me know jrsource1@ gmail.com
I still can’t stretch without re injuring myself and it’s been eight years. I stopped track for the season and never did therapy for the injury. I just stopped working out and never got back into it because the injury would come back every time.
VERY grateful for such a well made short and intro-informative video. Peace be with you and all your loved ones.
I tore my hamstring 8yrs ago and I still have pain. This fucking sucks
I just came here to understand about this injury after one of my favorite football players got injured. Seems dreadful.:(
I think I have just a minor tear. That complete tear from the bone looks nasty:/
Yea I listened to you guys with the no pain no gain and now I’m worse off lol so I’ve got a Tens Unit would that be useful or not.?
I do have a chronic Hamstring pull that is up there on the seat bone, and I got a massage gun for my birthday so I am going to try this. it’s taking sooooo long! I hope it doesn’t take years, like you mentioned on your video. Thanks always for the very useful information. You guys are great!
My hamstring on my sitting bone never healed. It’s been years already. It hurts every time i do a split.
are these good for a chronic injured hamstring? i’ve been suffering from the hamstring for almost 10 months now
Having an injured hammy sucks. Never try to do splits by yourself kids
I’m actually getting surgery for my avulsion torn off hamstring tendons. I’m not a doctor or medical student, so not quite sure of exact terminology. Live in socal and tore 2 of the 3 tendons attached to my pelvis completely off. What is adequate rest?? My surgeon said 6 weeks? Any foods I could eat? And what kind of rehab should I start and when for at home? I’m looking for all the advice I can get. Here is my email. Maybe we can workout a phone consult >> [email protected]
well i have a injurie that i cant sit down at all if i do sit down i feel pain when i walk i dont walk right.. my right leg slip on a watery floor i put pressure on my leg that i heard a crack. i couldnt sleep none of the sides PLEASE HELP
Is it true that there is little scientific evidence (RCTs) that osteopaths and chiropractors provide a long term solution to pain management and even short term is mostly based on placebo?
You need to treat it thoroughly with stretching, massage and strengthening. Work through a strengthening program from isometric (static contractions), to resisted exercises like hamstring curl, to eccentric exercises like a Nordic hamstring exercise. Then start to increase running speed once hamstring strength is equal to the other leg and you can do all of these exercises pain free
hi…i pulled up in a training session about 4 weeks ago with my hamsting. My physio said it was a grade 1 strain and to rest it for up to 2 weeks. But i had a final to play a week after I hurt it and played the full game. Its been 3 weeks since the game and my hamstring still isnt pain free during training. Have i hurt it more? What should I do?
so I have hamstring pain too…I injured with some speed running 5 days ago… still not walking well……how much take to feel better guys?
Thanks for this…tore my hamstring right off and this is a clear easy to understand video on the process. CHeers
Have you done a video on wearing a knee band to help with runners knee. Patella tendon strap is what I have seen it called.
Can you prevent a pull/tear from happening over the age of 40? I get away with playing until i have to suddenly try and run pretty fast and then it just goes. Mostly i don’t acually have to run fast.
Yup it hurts right right i play rugby and was in a sevens tourny and had to carry on playing 2 more games after im now im agony and cannot walk or sit hah it hurts
I had a strained hamstring and I just gave it rest only one night and the next morning it was totally healed ( I am a dancer and I was trying to do the splits )
After nearly 2 years of exercises and trying to figure out exactly what’s wrong with me ( thought originally it was right hip bursitis, which is what my local quack said it was), I’ve come to the conclusion that I must have damaged a whole bunch of muscles but mostly my hamstring. A lot of the muscles around my hip, and ass (as well as a stinging pain in the coccyx) hurt, like they’re being pulled tight. The place it hurts most is right at the top of my right leg, right where the leg meets the ass, and radiates half way down. I also get a pain that shoots diagonally across my right buttock, like maybe a tight piriformus. I’m trying all the exercises here and in a few of these guy’s other videos to fix it, but would appreciate if anyone knows what might be wrong? Thing is, nearly 2 years ago, I didn’t feel pain immediately, but I’m sure I got this from changing a tyre without proper tools, as I had to brace my right side, and stomp on the tyre iron/ lever with my left foot with all my might. FYI, for about 3 or 4 months, when I woke in the mornings, my left foot would be completely numb with pins and needles, but that disappeared after about 7 or 8 months.
oh dang im screwed i pullled my hamstring and my calf today a football practice and i have game friday.but it kinda has a moderatly sharp pain. in my calf and the back of my leg but i can still run and walk but it hurts like hell.
A huge Thank you gentlemen again. So simple and effective. I have just needed that kind of massage. A great effort.
Rest is great but you need to do other things as well to regain full movement and strength as well as improving the quality of the scar. Stretching and strengthening exercises are a good start, but sometimes you also need some professional help
Try Linnex Heat stick for a fast effective pain relief product. As used by the Pro’s…
Hello Mister Neal,
can you please give us the classification of lesions in muscles injuries,
I graduated from Physio college, and I have learned that there are 3 grades,
But when I started working doctors are giving me another type of nomenclature, like elongation, claquage, and some doctors classify it like 1elongation 2first degree ( few fibres touched ) 3second degree ( many fibres are touched ) 4third degree ( full rupture )
Thank you!
3:28 i laughed out loud… thanks for the video.. pulled hamie for the first time today.. sucks
Hi, I pulled my hamstring during football practice doing sprints. I heard a pop and felt it but was able to walk and that happened on sunday would it not be smart to try to play on friday, in our first game. I still have swelling a tightness but a lot can change in 3 days
i’m here bc i tried doing the splits and i pulled my hamstring
This is the second time I’ve pulled a hamstring but on my other leg I’ve been battling this injury for eight weeks and it’s just starting g to feel better, I done this while I was cheerleading and tumbling I done a skill that pit pressure on my leg and it clenched and popped. Stupidly I still carried on and made it worse.
My worry is I can’t stop doing cheerleading as I have competitions and at the moment I’ve been able to push through rehearsals but it then hitting the next day but I’m resting it every opportunity I get and Icing it as I’m writing this comment, just wanted someone’s opinion on how much longer on average until recovery? Many thanks x
My left hamstring feels as if its vibrating and sometimes feels as if a needle is poking it its never happened before do you what it may be thanks
I strained my hamstring in July at a track meet and i ewnt to rehab. I played football for a moment, but then I got hurt again in September. I rested it for almost 2 Months and it still hurts to run full speed. I ‘m trying tomake my schools basketball team. What should I do?
Very nice video, Dr. Ebraheim. I believe you have one small error. In your reference to the musculocutaneous junction of the hamstrings, you probably meant the musculotendinous junction. Thank you.
I injured myself six months ago. I have constant pain and it not healing. Maybe because I am on my feet all day in steel toe boots.
How I do I know if it’s strained and not just sore or really tight?
Hi guys…..can you explain when is it better to use a Osteopath, chiropractor, or physic therapist……(Overall for my impinged coracoid process the osteopaths were the only ones able to determine the underlying cause?
I love this sentence “Everything You Need To Know”,
thank a lot.
I suffered Hamstring injury 2nd Degree for almost a year now. I know almost all about it plus i’m a medical student. ask/inbox me for any queries regarding your muscle pain.
NOTE; if you feel pain in your hamstring after any kind of sport, YOU MUST STOP and rest for at least 2 weeks. Trust me, you dont wanna be in my situation.
My hamstring popped on the basketball court and I face planted. Due to never feeling a pop before I felt like I tore it but after 3 days, it’s still painful but I’m walking better and the bruising is down so I believeits a strain. So hopefully this helps so I can get back into my routine
fist of all thank you for posting this educational video. Second, I believe that i have a minor tear/pull of my hamstring. one of my major symptoms is that when I sit down for an extended period of time and then standing up, I feel this intense tigtening and sharp pain that starts at the back of my leg near the hip but side of my buttocks. the pain runs down my leg.. are these common symptoms of what is described in the video?
Idk if I pulled or strained my hamstring. I’m thinking I strained it because when I was deadlifting i felt a popping sensation in my left hamstring. It’s not the worst pain, I can still walk with a slight limp, and I can still bend my knee with no pain, but there is some discomfort when I straighten my leg out or if I try to bend over and pick up something. Gonna use these tips and hope for the best
Am here cause I pulled my hamstring playing basketball my first time too
Not necessarily. Hamstring strains are common in footballers, even professisonal players, but they usually return without a loss of speed. You just need to make sure you get it treated appropriately.
This was great! I’ve never sprained anything in my life. This was very informative! I’m out of the pain stage and now I have this weird tightness. Going to try the massage and see if that helps!
I recently graduated high school, i am 16 years old and i was on my cheer team, i was pretty flexible, able to do heal stretches, splits, flips, & scorpions, etc. well we were having pics done for yearbook, and i went down to my splits, and heard a pop type sound, every since then i cant to ANY type of cheer moves EXCEPT for tumbling, but if i land a flip on my leg the wrong way, i feel a sharp pain! This injury happened in January before a game, and still hurts!! HELP?!?!
What exercise you have to do for the hamstring he said? I can’t really understand the name he said
I was in academy for correctional officer and we had to run I felt that sharp pain boom I was limping for about two day but I’m stretching more and it’s helping the soreness go away so it’s healing
I’m watching this viceo while my hamstring pulling just get into the point
I had a grade 2 strain in my right hamstring about 5 years ago and since then have pulled it several times since then. Recently about a few months a go a strained it a gain after about a year of no problems with it. I tried taking time off and started playing again after about a month and pulled it again. After this I took some more time off and thought i was okay to play and ended up pulling it again. This is the third time in 3 months. What can I do so that this doesnt happen anymore?
Super useful!!!! Hamstrings injuries can be so challenging to treat
I completely tore my hamstring and 5 years later still experiencing an extreme knot when I bend my leg after runs. Help:(
If it is still the painful after 9 weeks then either it was a severe tear (indicated by bruising / swelling etc) or it wasn’t a hamstring strain at all. It could be sciatic pain referred from the lower back or buttocks. Either way I would recommend seeing a physiotherapist
I find it funny how I was here just randomly a couple months ago and now I’m back here because I actually need it.
What exactly was so bad about Brad doing the 12mph? Is it that he should’ve increased more carefully somehow, and if so, how? We have to challenge our muscles!
If you felt a sudden pop and pain in the hamstring then it is most likley a hamstring strain. Any back pain you are faaling may be due to tightness in the hamstrings which pull on the pelvis and affect the aligment of the lower back. Rest the hamstrings and stretch them several times a day. Get some massage treatment too and see how it feels
I appreciate your advice. I finally (after 7 weeks) started at the physical therapist. Message, electrical stimulation, 60 minutes of stretching & exercises to make the area stronger. Sorry I waited so long, but I’m on the road to recovery.
5:15 play with the ball for range (day 2,3,4) (few minutes three times daily)
6:48 massage with your hand (if it gets worse you’re not ready) (two to three minutes)
8:37 roll on the foam roller (cross the legs if it isn’t deep enough while rolling both) (three to five minutes)
9:53 play with the ball for strength (10 repetitions) (three sets of 10 after getting stronger)
12:25 go up and down up and down up and down
Hey Brad, how do I know if it’s my hamstring or sciatic nerve that’s causing me issues? The outer r left side above my left knee can’t handle a run for longer than 2 miles. Came on after I ramped up to 7 mikes this spring.
I am a dancer and in early october while forcing a split for my routine i felt a sharp pain in lower buttock i can no longer do any stretches to my right leg because it hurts so bad ive done some research on your website and it sounds like it is my upper hamstring but im not sure, i really want to dance but its been 4 months and it still hurts alot, please help
i think i have torn my hamstring pretty bad, every time after i warmed up and get ready for some stretch, its like i cant stretch it out and the day after that my hamstring hurt pretty bad, and i just dont know what is going on there, i was a former Karate green belt since my hamstring is hurt pretty bad, i just cant even kick my leg straight up high please tell me, what should i do?
Yes absolutely. Whichever sport you play it will take about the same length of time to heal
When I wake up and stretch I sometimes get this really painful string in my left hamstring. Is it a tear lmao idk
I felt a pop during kick boxing and i could not move right and i have no idea if i pulled it or not it only hurts if i flex my leg to hard anything else is fine plz help
i need to run in 4 days and i pulled my hamstring and when ever i walk fast there’s a sharp pain
Torn it during kick practice yesterday. I have a competition tomorrow
“We’re always giving away something” Lol you guys are the best
Do you guys think that weak lower back muscles and a weak posterior chain can lead to hamstring injuries?
I think i pulled my hamstring and i have to go to work and do the sane thing that hurt them in the first place
I pulled my hamstring playing “soccer” 2 days ago and I never get injured, I think it’s pulled anyway, i tried to play on but when u tried to use the leg I kinda folded to the floor in pain, hope it isn’t a tear
How long to get back to running with a Proximal Hamstring Avulsion grade 2? Week 2 I tried to run. No go. 3rd week ran 1.5 miles but wincing in pain every step. I’m at week 4. FYI. Cycling doesn’t hurt but I’m a runner!
Discouraged runner.
new generation of technology
I didn’t pull my hamstring but I hurt it. I finally go my splits down to the ground and when I did my hamstring hurt sm! ty for this video.
Whenever i get a hamstring injury i just need to straighten my leg…but it hurts when i straighten it.
Thank just hurt my hamstrings doing high speed workout thanks for the info.
This wasn’t covered in the video I injured my hamstring stretching it. It felt like a nervy pain right through the leg from the calf to the hamstring (when I Dorsi flex) since then I have pain in the lower of my hamstring where the tendons are behind the knee.. I feel Pain when I do nordics. What do I do??
How many days should you wait after your initial injury to start the healing exercises
I had pain behind my knees on both sides at first. I believe my hamstring were underdeveloped. The injury originated and got worse during powerlifting season.

My hamstring has been torn for almost 11 months, absolutely nothing helps though…
Feeling like they’re lip reading and norm McDonald is the narrator
In the middle of January I was practicing my over splits. So I wanted to get a really good stretch, so I put a stepping stool under my foot and went all the way down. (I knew I wouldn’t actually be able to get my butt to the ground) So I was pushing my hips towards the ground to get that deep stretch, then a a sudden pain came where I THINK is the hamstring (upper thigh, really close to the buttcheek). I came out of over splits and went into normal splits, still hurt. It affected my walking a little for the next two days, but only a teeny bit because it hurt to put a lot of pressure on that leg. Now it is late April, I have of course lost my splits, my bad leg is way better than my good, and if I stretch and try to go down it hurts a little teeny bitty bit. I know this is a question for my doctor or something, but can anyone tell me if it is a strain, pull, or tear, and if it is a grade 1, 2, or 3? I’m really scared
Hello guys, this comment is a little off topic but I just wanted to ask you guys something. Last Friday I went to a trampoline park and the next morning when I woke up, my right side of my lower rib was hurting. It wasn’t dull or acute, it was like… random. I don’t know what happened, but the night of the trampoline, I couldn’t feel anything wrong. Also, when I checked my rib in the mirror, it looks like its missing or perhaps misplaced. I don’t know how jumping on a tramp could cause this but I was wondering what the possibilities could be? Is it broken, dislocated, fractured, or am I just sore from the night before (some of my body is also sore)
whoa I gotta try this for my hamstrings which hurt b/c of my spondylolisthesis… even after my workouts and stretches. Curious… Brad is this why your hamstrings bother you?
Just subscribed to you guys thank you. I have a question. Short story I pulled both my ham string on each leg one after the other. 3 weeks later I felt better and I did a sprint then pulled them both again. I’m a workout finatic in the gym and I’m worried about how this is going to affect me. Will I be more susceptible to pulling hamstrings in the future even after proper hydration and stretching before working out?
You are correct. we must kill the bad fat and belly first to get the 6 pack. Listen the surprising part is my friend who is not doing much excercises, maintaining his six pack with this secret food items. worth watch here now bit.ly/11ZHHgl?=cuqoy
My senior year of high school and I just got into football last year. I am the fastest in the county (not that it matters) and my coach’s saw a lot in me last year and want me to play this year because they think I can go to college from football even though I was on the bench. I went to run for conditioning and my hamstring was swollen. Now I can’t even straighten my leg and my first game is in 4 weeks. ☹️
Its really good video which educate me a lot and avoid hamstrings tku doctor for that
Start gentle stretching of the muscle. Get some sports massage to help with flexibility and scar tissue alignment and then start strengthening exercises. Start with reverse straight leg raises and make them gradually harder. Then start running and gradually pick up speed
You guys are legit! Thanks for providing this info, just blew a hammy
Yes, provided there is no pain when jogging, twisting and eccentric contractions. Just gradually build the speed
Lol the intro really made me pause and laugh. I already see why you have 2 mil subscribers.
Anybody else laugh hard @ 4:31– 4:36 .. That would be my normal uneducated way of stretching smh LoL
I wish I saw this video before I stretched my hamstring to its max after I tore it maxing my deadlift
My hamstring was healed almost all the way then I got home and had a cramp in my hamstring glute area and now it hurts again
I pulled my hamstring playing football with my son today I played it off telling everyone else it’s nothing…. Man this shit hurts like a mf lol I’m here humbly seeking wisdom. Great Video you guys thank you!!
What is the ball called? I know, ball. But, how do I find it on Amazon?
I have had this hamstring strain 4 a few months. Is it a grade 3 or 2?
Thanks for the video. I was stretching it like crazy instead of doing the right thing. I’m just happy I found this video.
I stepped out of a trailer 3 weeks ago and basically did the splits. I heard a loud pop and was not able to get up. I did the R.I.C.E. method for a week and have started stretching. I rodeo, and I was wondering how long before I would be able to get back on horses again. There is still a little nagging pain, but not terrible. Do I just try and get on and see if it hurts or not?? I am going crazy not being able to ride.
I did a credit card on my skateboard and I need to get better
I am dealing with a lumbar herniation and disc degenerationcurrent sport is boxing with roundhouses and crescent kicks…. not sure if one caused the other, or if I did it from stretching, or exercise. But it commonly pops when I do stretch. The pop usually doesn’t hurt but sometimes it does. (Herniation is on the same side as the hamstring) Do I belong in bubble wrap until it heals? I have to be active
Thank you for your insightI took a spill while on a run a few days ago and really pulled my hamstring. It was so painful for the first 30 minutes that I had to wait for my partner to run home and get the car. I’ve been icing the area, taking anti-inflammatory meds. I do feel better, but it’s still a bit tender. Do you recommend foam rollers to help message the muscle?
Mine hurts even in my calf. Is that a common issue? The last time I only recovered after riding my stationary bike for several months.
Hello, i hurt my hamstring about two month ago spring during soccer practice. I felt better to play within two weeks, but unfortunately i popped it again, but this time i felt a lump. After a month of stretching and heat to the wounded area, i felt about 80 percent to play, i went out to play, but unfortunately hurt it once again, but there was no pop in the hamstring, i felt it was a very mild strain. I still feel the lump, What do you suggest i do to heal this? Im sorry for not being so clear
mine been tight since i started back running/playing football a week ago and yesterday i was playing with some youngins tryna shake and bake and it got real tight. most sore it ever been
did you have your hamstring checked out? and if so, what was the result?
I like to say I’m very very flexible and one time I dropped into splits without stretching before hand. So I pulled my hamstring. It was on my good leg too. I want to get better.
1/7/20 I hurt my leg 11/18/19, bruise came out on day 5 the whole back half of my thigh, knee to hip. It lasted 2 weeks, swelling is gone now but it still hurts to sit in a regular chair or anywhere. The back of my leg is still painful to touch. I read that Stage 4 takes 4 weeks to recover. It’s been nearly twice that and still can’t walk a full half hour but i try every day.
I was squatting heavy and on the fourth rep down I felt a pull then like a snap and I got up and could walk after but it hurt to sit on the bone like u guys were saying. What do u think I should do to make it stronger I have football coming up real soon and want to be 110% by then
This video is super old. I doubt I’ll get a response. I’ve injured my hamstring multiple times sprinting. I have a proximal hamstring tear and I’ve done physical therapy and I even did nothing and let it heal for 8 months. It still brothers me and I’m unable to jog. I don’t know what to do at this point
I watched your video for the first time bcz i pulled my hamstring playing volleyball. Although i subscribed but i wanted to mention 2 things for future videos.
Not everyone is in fit shape to do some of your exercise. Keep that in mind. Also do things that we can do at home. Again not everyone has access to gym to use the roll and ball.
Thanks
I hurt both my hamstrings eight years ago and whenever I start getting active again it gets aggravated again. I’m hoping that even though it’s an old injury that physical therapy can still fix it.
I had a bad experience with a deep tissue massage where the massage therapist tried to break up a big knot in my upper hamstring. I think he may have strained it due to the sharp, stingy pain I feel.
I didn’t notice the pain much until I went to the gym and did some elliptical the next day and did some stretching. Now, the next day, I notice the pain regularly.
I can walk but I have a bit of a limp. However, due to my public transit commute into the city for work, I cannot avoid walking all together.
So my question is: how much walking is too much walking in those early days?
Thank you!
Is it bad if in football running my hundreds I got a 16 second for 100 yards out of 20 seconds and then I get a little pain when I run and drop 6 seconds behind? I iced it and its barely even a strain so it think it should heal soon, funny thing is, is I’m an entering freshman and I chose DE but im lean and tall so I’m not a lineman build and then my coach yelled at me to play receiver with a hamstring injury today even though I was playing through practice with it for a week and I said fuck it I’m going to the trainer, my sorry ass isn’t burning any receivers on some wiggle stick slant curl route I’m going to ice it up and massage it
I need help on how to recover from my pulled hamstring. I pulled it back in April and I looked it up online and it seemed as if it were a grade 1 or 2 so I waitet a month. That month later I thought I was good to play soccer again and then about 5-10 minutes I felt it pull again but not as bad as the first time. its now been almost 2 months and then I went to play soccer a few days ago and I felt like it was going to pull again. I feel fine now but I don’t want to take any chances so what should I do? I just want to be 100% like before:(
For the high hamstring injury, is it possible to irritate the bursa near the ischial tiberosity with this treatment? I accidentally irritated the area by rolling it out one time, is this a safer alternative?
But ya just like you said it that type of injury takes forever to heal and from my experience is chronic to a certain extent.
I didn’t correctly treat my strain and it’s taken about 4 months:( My schools athletic person or whatever didn’t tell me anything to do about it really. I’ve just had to research it and treat it on my own.
my doctor said a week and he isnt good with this kind of stuff and people are saying more then some months do say what my doctor says because im probally gonna quit football if it is really for a month
I hv harming injury since last 6 moths… But still not recovering… What should I do??? I take proper rest and ice… And took madcn and therapy also… But not working…. Please help me…!!
I was playing tennis and i did a lunge to get the ball and i felt a sharp pain in the ”Hamstring area” i fell to the ground in pain, and my coach said to me do this do that, does it hurt i said yes and he diddnt know if it was a hamstring or not. please help me…
6 weeks and counting for mine:( no bruising the whole time but still in pain. Less than 50% power in it:( sad times
What? It won’t be the same? I tore my hamstring (it “popped”) about four weeks ago playing soccer (didn’t stretch at all that day and I took off on a sprint). I’m a really fast sprinter, does this mean I won’t be as fast as before?:'(
pulled it last sunday hurts a little bit in the middle been icing heating and epsom salt bath and just ant to know when i can play football again

Hi, I run Track & also play basketball. i Strained my Hamstring in May 2012, and now it s August 2012 and im still having hamstring problems. Especially after sleeping on a couch for a whole week the pain came back. I honestly dont know what to do, seems as if nothing works, and i want to be able to play at full potential. What should I do?
Good anatomy review, and great explanation of the typical patient population that suffers these injuries.
I have torn my hamstring 18 months ago, however, i feel some pain while training… Is that shows anything about injury is continue or is it just about nerves? I have read something about hamstring nerves, some people still have pain although muscle is healed because nerves get used to injuries pain… Is there any treatment about it? Does someone can help me?
I woke up to sleep to (subconciously) stretch my leg when i pulled my hamstring:(
and that really sucked cus everyone was asleep but luckily i called my mom on my phone and she woke up.
The same thing keeps happening and most recently my upper thigh got pulled to, I haven’t been able to cure (?) it yet and it’s annoying.
TYSM! But no to ibuprofen, bread, milk! So many better other things!
About 5 weeks ago I was sprinting to much with out stretching and then I felt a pop in my hamstring I couldn’t walk for a whole week with out being in pain, then I slowly started to jog after 2 weeks but could only do about 1/4 of a mile and then I reagrivated it at football practice and the week after same story now I can job about 2 miles but still can’t run what would you recommend I do to help it recover fast and how long do you think before I can sprint again?
Hamstring therapy, nerve clamps and enkle heal in place. contact Agus Parjito wa. 087836280086. Karanganyar Solo JATENG Indonesia
It’s my first time watching this channel. i like these guys, they’re like Statler and Waldorf but with rehab tips
Mine is fine, just a mild hamstring strain/grade 1, its just that it keeps going back. Like in training, if I’m warmed up properly I can do any splits, high kicks, any skill that involves flexibility without feeling any pain. If not or I rushed the warm up, slight intense pain occurs. I’m afraid of loosing my flexibility, I can actually do splits before without warm up but now I have to. Maybe my biggest mistake is not giving treatment for the first 3 weeks, esp. not doing the ice thing.
So how long is Phase 1,5 days? And do you ever introduce heat or just stick to ice packs?
Got a hamstring injury from cycling. Day 7 and the pain hasn’t gone away. Rip
burns way up high into the buttocks. if I move the wrong way, it burns so hot I see stars.
Day 2 now.
I am a hurdler and i fill as if i ingured my hamstring, what should I do to get back to hurdling a my fulliest potential?
I need some help guys. As a 20 year old semi-pro athlete I badly tore my left hamstring. Despite completing a very thorough rehabilitation overseen by high level physiotherapists, it still gives me trouble now as a 33 year old. I also re-tore it to a similar extent at 31 and I can always feel it whenever I push my body when exercising. What should I do as I find it very hard to remain fit with this issue and would hate to be dealing with it for the rest of my life?
This video helped a ton. I bought a deep tissue massager thanks to you guys for suggesting to use a massager and the perfect tip to use on the massager. After reading the reviews from people who bought the deep tissue massager. Online, it has a lot of positive and very happy reviews, I walked over to Walgreen’s And bought one. The massager is totally helping me with this Iliotibial band issue. Before getting the electric massager, my
PT who is a lot stronger then me and the PT was able to roll out my Iliotibial band better the first time around. I am glad that happened and now I can massager the knots out. And know what to feel for when getting those knots out. Now, I have mild pain and do not walk with a noticeable limp anymore. Thanks a heep. for all of your viewers, too.
I just twisted my leg in soccer yesterday and my nerve where the muscle is,i cant walk that much please help?!?!
I pulled my left hamstrings 4 weeks ago, it was during a warm-up, when you reach for your toes
it didn’t hurt much (or may because I have high pain tolerance) so I continued training anyway, but I can’t extend up to my toes now on my left leg
it doesn’t hurt when I jog or kick (Muay Thai), only hurts when I extend towards my toes, affects my flexibility though:(
I only started massaging it after 2 weeks I acquired it
should I worry? “I think” it’s taking too long:(
Sage advice: don’t try to do a split on cold muscles, when you really can’t do one at all,
pulled my hasmstring first day of football practice two weeks ago and i can only run 75% there was a lot of improvement each day the first week but the second week was hardly anything happened.i am 13 and i started doing light weights about a month before football. i did a calf exercise called leg curls with 15 pounds (im starting off light and easy and trying to get form down before i move on to heavier weights)… could this have increased my chance of getting a hamstring pull
Hello, I have had a chronically tight with noticeable bulge on the lower part of my biceps femoris along with the tendon/tendon sheath for over a year now. It started getting worse the more I ran, I have seen two different chiropractors. One of the chiropractors did Graston, the other used the hydrovolt gun and TENS. The bulge is still there and now I can’t run because the next day it feels so tight it feels like its going to tear. Prior to the chiropractors I have seen an orthopaedic doctor and got a steroid shot along with PT. Nothing helps it. I am not sure if this is a long long term problem or if there is something these specialist I have seen cannot figure out. I am considering going back into the second chiropractor and getting dry needling done. What are your thoughts Bob & Brad?
I have torn my hamstring, and it has been there for 5 months! My coach said that I wasn’t glad with your splits, I told him it been there for long and he said well if you hadnt told me you deserve evry pain. Someone help me, I am a young boy with what i think a severe hamstring pain!
I tor my Hamstring a month ago, and honestly its depressing:/ im a football player, 17 years old, and what he said about it never being the same again is so true:/ i really hate that i rushed myself to get back on the field, cause now i dont feel the same anymore.word of advice to all, take your time
I recently graduated high school, i am 16 years old & i was on my cheer team, i was pretty flexible, able to do heal stretches, splits, flips, & scorpions, etc. well we were having pics done for yearbook, & i went down to my splits, and heard a pop type sound, every since then i cant to ANY type of cheer moves EXCEPT for tumbling, but if i land a flip on my leg the wrong way, i feel a sharp pain! This injury happened in January before a game,& still hurts, Please help! ;(
Just like a sprained ankle, I find using it helps the most personally. For someone heavy that could be an issue tho.
I know this might be a controversial question.., but do you ever recommend certain steroids to speed up recovery? Or do you ever see a noticable difference in recovery time between players on and off cycle?
And it’s pain a lot.. and you can’t play even you fully fit.. you need a lot of rest
Any experience with hamstring strains/pulls behind the knee? Had a fall that strained this area (had x rays, no ligament damage), but during flexion there is still tightness and discomfort/pain at 10 weeks. I have had hamstring pulls before, but in this area it seems to be taking longer.
I PLAY VARSITY BASEBALL and I pulled my hamstring trying to hustle to first base on a ground ball I hit. I FELT A POP IN MY RIGHT LEG WHERE MY HAMSTRING IS and I can’t run. WHAT SHOULD I DO?
How long is the recovery time for most avulsion repairs. From the x-ray picture and anchors, it looks like the recovery along with physical therapy, could be months.
ps. If we did a phone consult. I could work something out such as a paypal payment for advice and links or videos. I don’t want to re tear my tendons and I don’t feel like I’m; getting all the help I need from the surgeons. Thanks. Again, [email protected]
Does anyone know IF it’s doable to replace the foam roller w/ a therapeutic gun?
I’ve been using Hypervolt Thera. gun more often than the foam roller
You should go to see a Doctor or even better a Physio or sports therapist etc for an assessment. It might be muscular, but you should also get checked for neurological (nerve) involvement.
This helped me so much!! Especially the ball exercises. Thanks for the great info.
I pulled my left hammy, now the pain is radiating to the right side which is a real treat. If I can’t do my yoga practice for a month I’m going to go INSANE!!!!!!!!!!
When i was running a 100m it was a sort of pop or snap in my back leg but i kept running. Then when basketball started. i kept playing on it. My left leg felt very weak, i could feel it getting worse each day, then I just stopped. It seems like when my leg hurts it makes my lower left back hurt, ive also been to physical therapy for my left hip flexer. What do you think?
If I ever have a problem and I need advice on a particular injury or how to have better posture, you guys are the ones I go to.
I’ve been struggling with hamstrings injuries the last 3-4 years. I’ve got injured about 5 times in these years, mostly a second grade pull.
Im 21 years old, and this time I need to be more serious about the recovery training.
So a week ago I pulled it again. I went running yesterday, and I could run 50-60% without any pain. How should I continue my recovery now? How should my training program be? I would like some exercises which I can do at home, without any equipment. Thanks.
I just pulled my hamstring while doing lunges. I am limping. I warmed up and stretched beforehand.
hello two weeks ago i was playing football and i as i came to do a tackle i did a fast twisting move and my hamstring pulled.. the pain was so shocking never felt it before it was like the muscles twisted over each other. i couldnt walk normally for 3 days… i played football today in less than one minute i had to sprint as i went for it i felt a pop with some pain (couldnt walk) but it felt like the cramp i got two weeks ago was relieved and the blood was flowing through the muscle. advice?
Thank you for the educational video. Do you know where I could find testimony video of actual patient that have done surgery to repair the ruptured tendon of the hamstring?
Hamstring strengthening work is important, as is getting back to full flexibility. I wouldn’t worry too much about the things you mention. They won’t make much of a difference
You guys are such life savers! On behalf of all the athletes THANK YOU!
its been three months since i pulled my hamstring the pain use to be in the lower hamstring now the pain is just under my butt any body know how much longer before i can workout properly i can jog at a good pace just cant sprint
If anyone can help me then that’d be great. So I do gymnastics and over the summer I stretched at home (2 times a day). So maybe near July, I started to get this pain on my left butt cheek and I still have it to this day. The hamstring muscle I believe is definitely pulled.. And I’m really scared.. I’ve did some pyhsiotherapy and showed me a few stretches but Didnt help. Whenever I learn on my left butt area, it starts to pain really bad..
i completly tore my hamstring it has been about 3 months and it is still killing
hey man i tore my lateral hamstring tendon along with my bicep femoris hurting. i have been icing it and taking medication for inflamation. do u recommend stretching or should i wait a little longer because it still hurts to stretch. how long u think it can last for it to heal fully? please [email protected]
You need to get some professional treament on it to help remodel the scar tissue and improve its tensile strength to stop it from going everytime you stress the muscle.
@sportsinjuiryclinic how do I rehab my hamstring I dont know what grade hamstring pull I have qnd cant go to a doctor
Not if you are using proper form and light weights. Get some treatment for the hamstring injury, make sure you stretch regularly and strengthen it too before you return to sprinting
Is it bad to cycle and play football/soccer wherever you are from, daily cause I do and over the days I have felt pain in my leg and I have asked my father to take me to the doctor but he won’t so can anybody help me
Yes, you need to have some time off completely to allow it to heal properly. Also lots of stretching, sports massage and then a gradual strengthening programme
Hurts, like heck and I’m looking at 6 weeks off work worth physical therapy..and the therapy is,soo, painful wahhhhhh, but I’m a nurse and need to be able to walk for 12hours
I finally purchased that Pure wave. I had been wanting it since you first showed it a couple months ago. I enjoy it so much!! Thank You
Hi! How to know if the injury is in the middle or near the bone?
You can do foam roller massage but that is more for fascial release that muscular. I would get a professional sports masseuse to treat it, alongside lots of stretching and some strengthening once pain free
Raced a guy at the gym reached max speed pop now Ima never race someone again fuck that
It seems like when I stretch before my activity is the time I pull a hammy. Don’t feel like I’m over stretching but it seems to never fail… pop
I got a very bad hamstring strain in my left leg about two months ago, maybe a little more. And it’s almost done healing now and now my right hamstring is sore to touch and I have basketball in college coming up
pulled mine during football about 4 days ago. i can walk and function a little bit better with slight pain still.. would mine be a grade 1 2 or 3? im already feeling anxious to play
I pulled my hamstring three years ago, and when that happened I was left with a knot on my hamstring. When that happened, I passed out and my hamstring was purple for weeks, it took 6 months to go away, but the knot stayed. I continued with my martial arts activities. Now three years later, the knot on my hamstring swelled, after running 4-8 miles almost everyday, I passed out again from the pain. Does this sound like a tear??
I was 13, and on may 3 I actually felt almost a complete tear of the hamstring. My predictions were both overestimated, injury wise, and also underestimated for the time of recovery. I play soccer, and hamstring injuries are VERY COMMON when playing soccer. Luckily, I had a Big Grade 1 Medial Hamstring Strain. I was out for ALL OF MAY, and recovered on June 4.
Yes! If there is still pain or tension there then you can do further damage and make it worse. Rest and get treatment until it is feeling completely better
Can you tell me if it’s my hamstring or my Lower back? Sometimes my lower back feels fine but there is A-sharp pain in the back of my leg sometimes there’s no pain in my leg but my back is very sore
Does anyone know that if you hear a pop whether it’s likely that a part of the hamstring has completely torn away from the bone? I was running at full speed when the incident occurred earlier today and my leg gave way immediately after the pop. Have been walking on it since with a bit of pain.
I did a handstand and didn’t stretch and when I got down I had a sharp pain but it didn’t pop or anything but it hurts when I bend my leg
Hi guys, I’d love to know what the difference between the Pure Wave and the Tim Tam and Thera Gun is. From what I can see, the Tim Tam and Thera Gun seem to have a deeper/more agressive depth penetration. However both of them are insanely expensive. Help would be appreciated.
5 days ago I was riding my motorbike. I stopped & put my right foot down but ground was uneven & I couldn’t touch ground & bike fell over. I tried to lift it up & felt a pop & pain. Was able to ride next 3 days with large bruises.
Yes we do think it is worth wearing something like this but it needs to be made of neoprene which is a heat retaining material which will help to keep the muscles more flexible and so reduce the risk of injury. Compression shorts are a good option as they will cover the entire area and not slip down when exercising
Tore my hamstring 4 days ago and I’ve been stretching it every day like twice a day… had no idea I was making it worse
Pulled my hamstring doing 2 days of yard work. So glad I found this page.
See another professional. Rest isn’t enough. You need massage and strengthening
If there is pain actually in the buttock then it is unlikely to actually be a hamstring strain. It is more likely sciatica maybe something like piriformis syndrome
You can’t without proper rest, Avoiding sprinting etc will help prevent further damage but playing football this won’t really be possible.
Hello, I have a pain in both legs for 4 years to the hamstrings.I have been to six doctors told me and six different things such as tendinitis, strain, pull, inflammation, one I said that I do not have anything and that is in my mind. I do therapy that I have not helped. plz anyone knows something about it? help me i m a ballerina:(
Follow the advice given by your physio andkeep gradually working on building flexibility and strength in the hamstrings. Also don’t go back to full sprinting too early or you will only be out for longer with another, potentially worse, tear.
I had a horrible grade 2 hamstring injury April 2011 playing soccer, i would rest for about 3 weeks, then after it felt okay to me i would go out and play and re injure it. It was on and off until September 2011, then i was great. Now, i feel little twinges here and there (grade 1’s) ever since january. I need to incorporate Hamstring curls in my workouts, i feel like my quads are overdeveloped
Hi, I pulled and tore my hamstring (Partial Thickness Tear and Collection of fluid showed by the scan) while sprinting. its been nearly seven weeks now and I have sprint meeting in four weeks time. I have been working on it as directed by the physio, thou i am not back on the track yet. What can i do to improve my chances for the event in four weeks time? your advice would be hugely appreciated. thanks
