I was curious about this as an American and you answered my questions perfectly, thanks.:)
Thank you so much for the suggestions & the AIC website! Our family will be going to Italy this summer & we are gluten free in our house.
This was very helpful! Thank you for sharing. I would love to see another video with more tips on how to shop gluten-free in Italy!
I tried the web page, but I think I can’t search without codice socio?
Can you post some actual restaurant suggestions and reviews of your favorites?
I got ruined for going out to eat at restaurants when I found a tidbit of meat in my garlic fried rice. Even if they prepare it vegan like you order it..it is still cross contaminated with using the same pans and utensils etc.
I just watched some videos that are from 2009 regarding dehydrated food for long term storage. I think the channel is dehydrated2store and she gives lots of info on dehydrating food. Since you have that wonderful Breville with the dehydrate function, you can do that for a lot of your travel veggie needs, too.
Elisa, do you know about safe makeup in italy? Do you know about bionike? Is it safe for celiac people?
Looking forward to seeing your next video! I am coming to Rome again in April and I love all of your tips!
Yes! It’s awesome to find someone that has to deal with the gluten free nightmare. Going to Italy September 1-22. Starting in Rome, ending in Venice. Would LOVE LOVE more videos on the subject!!!
Chipotle does use oil: Rice Bran Oil Chipotle
Chipotle Rice Bran Oil Its high smoke point—the temperature at which the oil starts, well, smoking—makes it suitable for high-temperature cooking like grilling, while its mild taste makes it versatile. We use it in places like our salad dressing and to season our rice, just to name a few.
Just wanted to express my gratitude for your lovely videos! I’m preparing for a tri p to Rome next week and your content is so clear and helpful, I feel like applauding.:) Thanks for devoting your time to helping others on their journeys!
Rome is the best place I have been to eat as a person with celiac disease. I live in Canada, and we are not as good at reducing cross-contamination! I was super impressed by the food in Rome.
Hi, we are on are way to Rome, you should provide information on Venice.
I am a backpacker, and have been working a lot on how to follow this lifestyle, and backpack. I have been taking my homemade backpacking food on airplane trips as well. As a result I have learned my lentil chili, cooked rice, really anything can be dehydrated. Put it into a freezer bag. You have to use freezer bags as the regular baggies do not work well with hot water. So….I carry individual servings in the freezer bags of lentil chili, pea soup, whatever I had in my kitchen before trip, and I dehydrate it a few days before trip, and put it into the freezer bag. Mashed potatoes, already cooked rice as my starch. I even purchase freeze dried veggies and use in recipes. I have found some wraps made from dehydrated veggies that are like tortillas, and I rehydrate veggies quickly, some mashed potatoes or beans and make wraps, sauced with my small California balsamics. I have a tiny palm sized backpackers stove. When I get to my destination I simply purchase a small fuel cannister for my stove at walmart or sporting goods store. Or you can heat up water in microwave if you have one in your room. Then, you pour hot water into freezer bag meal.
best GF food I ate was in Rome.
amazing.
Thank you for so much your informative videos.
Really helped me on my latest trip to Rome.
Great vid Elisa very informative.
Italy is the only place where I’ve ever had a decent GF pizza.
and love your setup btw ^_^
Just want to mention using empty tic-tac holders for traveling spices/herbs (also Penzeys Spices has small glass bottles that are half the size of the common that one might buy empty or filled). Thank you for your work!
Grazie:-) your videos are really helpful. I just got back from Italy. Thank you again. Very beautiful country.
I am coming to Rome Italy for my master course how do we can be in contact
Gluten free pasta in Italia is not so bad, Italians perfect pasta no matter what. Gluten free pizza is good also, the dough is different but not had. I couldn’t imagine being celiac, my diet consists of pasta and pizza being a vegan which is another story but I never had a problem finding vegan options in Italy, I miss Italy and can’t wait to move back soon.
I cannot tell you how much this has helped me. I travel some for my job and it was pretty hairy last time. This will all be a time saver! You guys are the best and I always look forward to Tuesdays.
Jackfruit! If you want jackfruit, not in any brine, use the product you’re showing in your video or try a larger Asian grocery and purchase frozen. Buying fresh comes with all kinds of issues. 1. size, 2.the mess (and believe me it makes a mess and can ruin your knife and clean up, OMG), 3. it goes from green to ripe to over-ripe in a snap…. think avocado.
Great video and even better tips! I wish I could eat Schar, but I think I read in the ingredients that you use soy flour? I can’t have soy. So sad! But I still love this video!! I’d still be hestitant to eat a restaurant that doesn’t have a dedicated GF menu. Places like Bob Evans scares me and I refuse to eat there. But Applebees and Outback Steak House are really good about it.
Omg, this is amazing, I’ve never heard about anything similar in any country (well definitely not in the Czech republic)! The fact that you have a whole association for celiacs and its certified restaurants is gorgeous, I’m really surprised, because Italy is as you said a glutenland:D But that’s probably the reason behind it so much gluten led to a higher percentage of people with gluten intolerance in your population:(
I’m not even on a gluten free diet, but I’m always interested in your videos
We used to live in Sacramento and our kids and grandkids are still there, so we visit often. Can you please tell me what Mexican Restaurant has the vegan oil free owner/chef? Thank you.
Wuau Tami and Tom, How many great ideas! You are so lovely couple
Beyond Beef burger taste like meat, so you may want to avoid.
Great info. Very helpful for anyone visiting the country. Thank youxxx
Enjoying your videos. I started watching because I wondered why Tom was sitting over there. 😉
Very helpful videos! We will be in Rome next week. Any suggestions for restaurants?
I can’t find the purse cooler, am I missing it? Amazon link not working.
Im a server and my job is to make sure your dining experience is enjoyable. As long as you respect me and don’t talk down to me, I will go the extra mile. Also if im unsure of ANYTHING i ask the kitchen. And 20% tip is appreciated! Also, the amount of salt used in most dishes leaves me speechless. I mean they put salt on salads!!!! Yuck!
Since Whole Foods has relationships with many WFPB no oil people like Engine 2, Dr McDougall, and ( I can’t recall the other one), why doesn’t their bar have more options without oil?!!! It makes no sense to me knowing that it can be done. Come on Whole Foods, jump on board the no oil healthy way of cooking!
I love the banana holder. Good find Tom! Thank you for the in-depth video! (Claire Dorsey on FB)
ty Tami and Tom, great video. With the help from Chef AJ, she is how i found you, and you guys, i am continuing to lose, another lb last week, 17 months today, 72 lbs gone, as well as a list of 17 health related improvements, from nearly bed bound with chronic fatigue and fibro, both GONE now, which i never expected. high BP and cane for 15 yrs plus, all gone, BP like 40 yr old now, and i can hop, skip and jump!! love you guys, love your tips, even tho i just throw what ever in the ipots, using hers and your recipes for references!! The BIG surprise was, not craving those other “foods”, i no longer drool over pizza, or stalk the frozen yogurt isle at stores!! etc., etc..I could go on and on, but won’t:))
Thank you for all the info. Learn so much from watching you even though I’ve been vegetarian most of my life vegan pbwf since 2011.
Which Apps, if any, do you use in dealing with your Gluten Free Diet? Leave a comment below. It’s always refreshing to hear how other people deal with their diet problems.
As soon as it cools down a bit I want to make beans in the crockpot this recipe sounds so delicious! Do you soak the beans prior to cooking?
This travel video is fantastic. Thank You for all the tips. This will all be so helpful as we take day trips and longer vacations.
Thanks so much for all the wonderful information you share with us! I’ve learned so much from you. I could relate to your packing up for a trip. So glad to know I’m not the only one who goes to such extent to eat healthy while traveling! Thanks again:)
Hi! I was vey interested in your video, because we are going to be in Rome on 21 of October.
Is it possible to find information about gluten free pizzerias near to Vatican`s museums on website celiachia.it, if you don`t LOG IN?
We will be in Rome just for 3 days. I tried to find info without LOGIN IN, but didn` get anything celiachia.it. Could you suggest some pizzerias near to Vatican`s museums?
I still find this guide super helpful, even after years of being gluten free. Hope to see more videos from you again Lauren:)
That is absolutely the BEST,most comprehensive WFPB video I have ever seen.Thankss
Nice information. My gluten free food vlog from Italy was inspired by this video:)
I LOVE your videos, and Tami you have a lovely speaking voice that is calming and your presentations are thorough, and that is appreciated. Thank you for all the wonderful suggestions on traveling and products. We enjoy Tom’s input also.
Can’t thank you enough for all you do to help educate about recipes, products, and “how to do”…..You all are awesome and make such a difference in life quality!
Did I hear muffins? I’d love the recipe. Could you provide a link? Thank you!
I recently ate at someones house who thought they were being helpful by including some beyond beef in a dish they made specifically for me. So, I gelt somewhat guilty, and decided to eat it, and I hated it. It tasted like old rancid oil to me. I have a friend who works at chipotle, and she says they do add oil to the rice so it is easier to serve and keeps it from sticking together. At least at the chipotle store she works at. I asked at Panda Express if they add oil to their brown rice, as they sometimes have it and sometimes dont. They assured me they do not add oil, and they also have steamed veggies. So, on ocassion when out running errands and if I did not take any food with me I will stop at panda express and use my California balsamic and spice mix that I keep in my purse in case it is needed, and will put that on the veggies. I did that recently using the new curry vinegar from California, that was ultra good!!
When I go to Wendy’s I get a baked potato & top it with salsa.
