Freekeh is not gluten-free. Freekeh—which is found most often in Middle Eastern dishes—is actually another name for green wheat that has been roasted and then cracked. Since wheat contains gluten (as do the other two gluten grains, barley, and rye ), freekeh most definitely is not gluten-free, and anyone following the gluten-free diet because they have celiac disease or non-celiac gluten. No, freekeh is not gluten-free. Freekeh, also known as farik, is a cereal “ ancient grain ” made from green durum wheat.
Since freekeh is derived from wheat grains, it therefore contains gluten and is not safe for those with celiac disease or non-celiac gluten sensitivity to consume.Freekeh is a healthy ancient grain that is low in calories, but high in fiber, protein, and other nutrients. Here is everything you should know about freekeh nutrition, its gluten content, and how.Freekeh is a grain alternative similar to quinoa, and while it’s not gluten-free like quinoa, it has more fiber and protein. It’s been shown to help with weight control, aid eye health, support healthy digestion, treat IBS and help build strong muscles.
Given that.Is Freekeh gluten free? No, it is not gluten free.
Because the grains are harvested when green the gluten structure is slightly different and the grain may lack another amino acid called gliadin which acts as a trigger to gluten intolerance. If you’re a vegan or vegetarian, freekeh is a great way to easily up your protein intake. One caveat: If you’re gluten-free, freekeh isn’t a match for you, as it’s a wheat product. How to cook.
Freekeh is not gluten-free (remember – it’s wheat). That’s one decisive point that separates it from gluten-free (but also high-protein) quinoa. But, you may have heard that freekeh is easier for slightly gluten-sensitive people to digest.Freekeh is a wheat product, so it does contain a small amount of gluten and is not suitable for people with celiac disease or gluten intolerances.
Several brands of freekeh are available as organic, non-GMO Project verified and harvested in the US.Occasionally called “farik” or “frik,” freekeh is a healthy whole grain, similar to bulgur wheat, farro, spelt, and wheat berries but with distinct characteristics. The Arabic-derived word “freekeh,” from farak, which means “to rub,” refers to the production process, not the name of a plant.Growers harvest durum wheat before it fully ripens, then burn the stalks to remove the chaff.

If you are on a gluten-free diet or have celiac disease, it’s best to avoid freekeh in your diet. Grains that are gluten-free include quinoa, sorghum, and oats.Unfortunately, freekeh is not gluten-free, as it is a type of wheat.
Some people say that people who are gluten-sensitive have an easier time eating freekeh because the processing denatures the gluten in the grain — but it’s up to you to decide if you want to risk an upset stomach.Freekeh can easily serve as a main ingredient/flavor. The grain keeps its texture but adds heft and flavor. If you’re not following a gluten-free diet, freekeh is the perfect swap for quinoa in most dishes.
You can purchase freekeh from a quite a few companies but the quality, amount the grain is.Freekeh (also known as farik or frikeh) is the name for roasted young wheat, and it is a traditional food of the Middle East and Northeastern Africa. I seem to get a lot of “brain fog” 2-3 days after eating white potatoes?? Rice has the same effect? I wonder why? any thought’s?
Thank you so much for your videos!! I’m NOT crazy lol
Corn is a poison. ☢ I’m going to see what Medical Medium has to say about grains next!
BRIGHT SIDE: One thing I don’t understand about this video is towards the beginning it says that brown rice is good for you but at 5:19 it says it’s bad for you, so what gives?
Whole wheat pitas and couscous, what I’ve been eating for the last week with a HUGE smile on my face… Until now
Make the most of google to discover in regards to this diet regime “Kοnοnοz yyd” (Google it). I have lost approximately 12lbs immediately after using it for 3 weeks, in spite of not improving a lot along with my diet program or even work out. It feels wonderful to have this. I feel it has determined me and influenced me..
I knew it. Sorry wheat but i want to preserve my brain and my land soil
I have Hashimotos. My TPO antibodies are 3300. Thyroglobulin antibodies are 200. I do not have gluten antibodies. Celiac test was negative. Tier 1 gluten test from Cyrex labs was negative. Quit eating dairy several months ago and have made many improvements in my diet. TPO antibodies are not going down.
Every ingredients from the earth are healthy. Just moderated consumption and eat small portion. And avoid food from factory!!
My years of eating wheat bread, muesli and the likes resulted in increased creatinine level and increased liver enzyme
I was eating white rice and wheat almost daily and managed to lose 8 kg…
I think it depends on the quantity you are in taking it..
Eat red rice instead guys, they are healthy! Just 1 cup in lunch will be okay to eat everyday.
I really wish I had discover the “Yamzoko Weebly” (Google it) a long time ago. I reduced 12 pounds in three weeks up to now. There is still need of physical exercises even just a couple of times weekly as well as the meals to nibble on must be right. It showed incredible outcomes for me. I certainly endorse the product, wish it works as good for you since it does for me..
Grains will suppress your appetite for a few minutes. Eat corn? BS
What about cumin seed soak over night….morning boiling and drink
I eat bulgar wheat almost everyday and I have a healthy weight 130-135lbs at age 37 ❤️ bulgar wheat
this is very useful-many thanks from Geelong, Victoria, Australia
I’m gluten sensitive but no issue having rice. I cannot speak for other people but no issues at all when I had serious issues with gluten.
Thank you for sharing this wonderful teaching information video presentation on whole grains.
What about Spelt? The grand-parent of modern wheat? For some reason, some I know with extreme reactions to wheat, but do NOT have those negative reactions apparent when consuming bread made from spelt!?
White rice is better than brown rice, the internet is lying to u that brown rice is better
When i had found this weight loss plan “Yamzoko Weebly” using Google, I felt energized to try it out straight away. This has offered me pleasure. I suggest you to Google this strategy also. My friend has dropped 10 pounds by now because of this weight loss program..
Thank you for sharing your journey. I didn’t even know this was a thing but decided after another painful day that I needed to just stop all grains. I feel addicted and punished when I can’t eat bread which I have always equated to comfort. I keep thinking oh just a little and then I hurt
So today I thought how about just no grains?!? And looked up grain free and there you were. Thank you!
I’m going to try thisI already know I’ll feel betterbut now I have a place to explore and find support.
well thank God Pakistani diet is mainly based on wheat and white rice……..
Interesting video. It could be yeast that caused the issues rather than grains. I’m going to go yeast and gluten free, then try no grains if I don’t see a difference. Rice doesn’t give me any issues so I’m not sure if all grains are bad. Edit, I decided to go grain free. After three weeks, still bloated.
Mary Mercer, are you gluten intolarent also? I also have negative effect of rice for some reason, although they are called ‘safe’ for gluten intolarent people.
Hallo Scooby, deine Meinung zur “snake diet”…!?!? Danke! / Hello Scooby, your opinion on the “snake diet”…!?!? Thanks!
Yah eating white rice is fattening that’s why there are over 1 billion overweight people in China!
Here in India..You will get everything with Chemicals and Modified hybrid..That too they Modifying Vegetables With half knowledge, copy paste from Developed countries like USA Russia..

I always thought corn was a vegetable and lentils were legumes.
Funny how the japanese eating tice, the french eating standard wheat based french loaf and arabians eating cous cous as their staple food, do not become obese or remain slim and healthy till late age.
Outs is just high sugar, and brown rice is reach in arsenic…..☠☠☠
These talks are very helpful. Not eating grain has helped my pain a lot. I also have Hyper-mobile Ehler’s Danlos Syndrome. Maybe you can have a talk about EDS known to be a genetic disorder.
Quinoa and Buckwheat and lentils are not grains. The difference is critical. Especially on a nutrition video.
Hulled grain is significantly better than with the hull, I’ve been hearing more & more. That’s why numerous cultures like Asia always hulled the grain for thousands of years
great vid. currently have 6 boxes of Near East couscous mix to replace rice. Plan to return back to grocery store and purchase quinoa. thanks..
When you say that you gotta eat a whole ear of corn does that mean the cob also?
What’s the connection to lasagna recipes?
Also all the time you think you’re on a talk show Dana from Uruguay, Dan from Colorado

Some other people recomended me this blog https://wordp602103697.wordpress.com/blog/ but i don’t know if it is legit? As you seem kind of like an expert compared to me I would like to hear your opinion.
I sprout most of my grains. I know, the nutritional values change then, but they’re still an extremely healthy treat:)
I moved out of Dallas in January 2013. I’m in Durham,NC now.
I never eat brown rice instead I only eat white rice and yet ai lost 7 stones of weight by running and eating everything in a balanced portion, thats what we need to do, say no to junk food, you want burgers make em at home, just stop eating deep fried food, try and use as less oil as possible, eat nuts and lowfat yogurt, chickpeas, drink plenty of water and excercise regularly, just keep it modrate otherwise you’ll get sick of it, just make a habit of healthy eating and living… Best of luck guys
You need to do your research & don’t believe everything you read UNLESS it is backed up by facts. Go to these 2 links for a start into hundreds of factual ones about how whole grains & wheat, & high starch/carbs are needed for your health. The Wheat Belly book is not factual. You almost made a 100% factual video, but that little lie at the end undid the good.

Great explanation. Very thorough. You have great speaking skills. I only heard a couple of ums. That’s refreshing. I did feel like you rushed through it. Pauses are golden. Maybe it was nervousness. Other than that, so nice to hear great speaking skills.
I’m trying different anti-immflatmory lifestyles because I have 6 cervical herniated discs. Food is medicine.
I started drinking only water 4 years ago, except for coffee. That’s hard to quit. Lol!
I quit meat over 2 years ago. It’s an inflammatory. #plantbased
I do no-added sugar challenges for the past 2 years, but that’s super hard to become a lifestyle.
Now, I feel led to try grain and gluten free challenges.
Thanks for the informative video.
If you have anymore suggestions for anti inflammatory diets/ lifestyles, I’m here for it!
Asians specifically Japan with the longest living people of the planet eat rice ang beans as staple food…look on the blue zones.
I experienced barley is the best among all the grains it is a strong diuretic, helps maintaining bloodsuger level n cholesterol keeps the whole body healthy
The most nutritious and healthiest grain in the world is Finger Millet (Ragi).
Scoob you look thick. Are you bulking or is it the lighting?
Please give a video, how to give a best diet with simple homemade things,drink..etc
So how do you actually find out if you are cross reactive to rice or not?
I use Organic Brown long grain rice from Lundberg brand. Gluten Free-Whole Grain.
Thanks to this vid I no longer eat grains anymore and I feel much better for it. What about rice milk though? Instead of rice flour I am using chickpea and yam flour and they taste so much better. I will probably change to cocnut milk.
I have reactions to like 50% of food,, Im on a strict diet & lost alot of weight and still losing it I have hashimoto too
I have reaction on brown rice and I don’t have one on white rice.
So are there any recommendations on what one can actually eat with celiac that is safe? Seems like so much that you cannot eat, would love to know what you can eat!
Would this also include rice flour? witch is in 99% of Gluten free flour mixes
Rice doesn’t make me tired. I will use it when I get hungry for a pizza every few months. Rice makes a nice crust. I get my rice from India. Avoid buying anything from China as they make poison dog treats, put melamine in baby milk and make toxic baby toys. I have all the flour you mentioned. A loaf of bread costs about $10. so it’s a treat. Flax is cheaper so I try to incorporate this into a loaf of bread. Heal leaky gut and u can get away with an occasional cheat. Organic apples made into sauce with skin on heals the gut. Eat it in am and pm with a spoon full of yoghurt loaded with caps of my probiotics. Bone broth made with organic chicken backs at $1 a lb so I can afford to cook this up anytime. Works for my leaky gut and so healthy. Use root vegetables raw and cooked. Never eat all cooked dead foods. I eat for my blood type. I fired my Dr. and now have a Naturopath.
how do KAMUT and TEFF rank on your grain meter? (RE:8 Grains to Eat to Lose Weight and 3 to Avoid) Thanks, Kali Gainesville, FL
So are we talking about all forms of rice, including brown rice protein powder? That is my vegan source of protein powder! ARGH..that leaves pea protein, or mixtures of hemp, pea, and cranberry.
Thank you for educating us. Your videos in this series are very informative. Yes I agree with you the issue of disease and nutrition is complex. I have hypothyroidism after having a thyroidectomy. I am eliminating gluten from my diet, but still struggle with anything sweet. So last night I had a piece of sultana cake. What a huge mistake. Am in lots of pain in my joints. Once again thank u. From New Zealand.
My husband has a blood test by a lab to find out if her had any food sensitivities. One of the things that cane up was that he could tolerate gluten but not wheat. How can that be? What would he react to in wheat if not gluten?
Do you know anything about potatos? I’m reading conflicting opinions on it.
Like any nutritional style, the devil is in the details. Keto, low-carb, low-fat, vegan, vegetarian, and gluten free can either be amazingly healthy and great for muscle building or can be obscenely horrible it depends on how you implement them!!!!
If it is protecting itself from predators such as human, than we were never meant to eat it.
hum pakistani to khaty hi white rice or wheat toooo must… we can’t avoid it
Okay, you mentioned that milk products is the #1 thing to stay away from but does that include soy milk or almond milk? My 4 yr. old went to a urologist and she said she is gluten sensitive. I have no idea what to feed my daughter anymore since you gave these list of ingredients to stay away from.
Lol couscous is a staple of mine and I’m down 40lbs. Bunch of b.s
I’m taking rolled oat daily in the morning..and snacking those cucumber, cherry tomatoes, grapes, blueberry and strawberry..in a month I lost 11.3kgs
Potatoes are not a cross reactor, based on current data. Neither is quinoa.
part 3. I only sleep 2-3 hrs a night. Have tried dozens of things as suggested by my doctors. My chiropractor says my body will not heal until I sleep. Frustrated.
part 2. I have not been eating gluten but do not feel better. Am willing to give up the “top 6”. What is OK to eat? And how long does a leaky gut take to heal? Thank you for sharing info about hashimotos. Doctors in my area have no clue. Even my holistic Dr. is getting frustrated. I just started LDN. What are your thoughts on that treatment?
This might explain why I’m still having celiac symptoms even with being gluten-free
I have Hashis too and I also have eczema. if you eliminate your eczema, can you let me know what worked? thanks!

Cross-Reaction between Gliadin and Different Food and Tissue Antigens
Food and Nutrition Sciences, 2013, 4, 20-32
Thank you for the info! My Dr refuses to acknowledge celiac disease but I’ve had every symptom my whole life & recently I was on the verge of committing suicide because I felt myself dying & I was in so much agonizing pain for so many years, I wanted to die instead of a slow lingering horrifically painful death while being a burden on my loved ones. I decided to try a gluten-free diet because it was the only thing I hadn’t tried & within 2 days my horrible migraine that had lasted months was gone & all of my horrific allergy symptoms were gone, too. My depression lifted etc so I kept researching. I cut sugar, soy, dairy & meat & switched to all organic fruits & vegetables, vegan sugar free (stevia) protein shakes, nuts, beans etc I feel better than I’ve ever felt & I’m 47! My Dr still won’t believe me I can’t get a DX & I’ve been completely disabled w multiple autoimmune diseases for years not to mention chronic debilitating intractable painyet being told it’s fibromyalgia & the rest is in my head… Mostly my diseases are gone already w exercise but I’m weak & achy I know it will take time to heal maybe a long time I’m just so angry at everything I’ve lost due to Dr’s writing me off as a lying pill seeking hypochondriac. I’d be dead now if I listened to them & I’m fighting for my life I’m 108 lbs & 5’6” because my intestines were being destroyed for years by my immune system. So frustrating & so so sad but wanted to say thank you for trying to save people like me!! My hair was falling out, I had arthritis, osteoporosis, psoriasis, chronic migraines, fibrocystic breast disease, acne, horrible allergy symptoms, so so many symptoms I have constapation so bad I have to take 6 laxatives to go to the bathroom, I know I was in end stage celiac disease. I looked like death & felt like death. I’ve already had cancer (cervical & uterine plus an 8 CM tumor in my ovary) all my life I’ve been called a liar by Dr’s. I’m dirt poor & suffered depression (which I thought it was from always being so sick). Dr’s just wanted to hand me antidepressants & get rid of me. Guess what MOST OF MY AUTOIMMUNE SYMPTOMS are GONE including depression but it’s so hard to afford everything I need to be healthy. I have no insurance now but when I did they said all my tests were normal except once at the ER I was told my T-Cells were through the roof & my temp was 106. They checked me for meningitis & when that was negative they told me my fever & pain must be caused by stress (unbelievable) I was told I had atypical antibodies but they said that meant nothing. I’m walking 2-4 miles a day til I can heal my intestines & build strength & enough weight on me to work on putting on muscle. I pray I can get through this & it’s not too late for me. The medical system in this country is DESPICABLE! I’m thankful that at least I feel vindicated it my soulI know I never lied & I was/am horribly ill.
Okay, so if I have Hashimotos.
I should not eat any dairy and gf.
Rice, Corn, Yeast, Oats, Millet are also a no go!
Good meat (without the whole antibiotics and cruelty) is not affordable AND I’m not supposed to suddenly eat stuff, I wasn’t eating before (possible causes of intolerances due to a leaky gut)…
whats left?
fruits, veggies and potatoes?
That explains a lot! I’m pretty sure that I have gluten sensitivity. I’ve been diagnosed with Hashimoto’s 4 years ago. Doctors in Poland don’t know anything about Hashimoto’s the only one thing that they tell me every time is “There is no cure”. For about 3 months I haven’t eaten gluten, milk and soy. I feel better now…but…now I have eczema. I think it’s because I eat rice. I feel sooo tired after eating rice. I will try to eliminate it. Thank You so much for all yours videos!
Awesome video. Just for future reference it’s freek-eh. Eh like how Canadians say “eh”:)
Thanks, I was so excited to get a bag of lentils, freekeh, and beans superblend, but the freekeh being wheat is not for me. But this does inspire me to search out gluten free grains to make my own super blend
How do you get rid of the stones though, I’m eating this right now, it’s full of tiny stones.
I apprecaite you, but I’ve been gluten sensitive for decades, and rice has never brought on symptoms. I’ve also eaten Millet bread, but minimally. I am considering giving up gluten free oatmeal that I bought at the health food stores, but its so hard. That is what I ate for so long for breakfast, but I am going to try. Eggs every morning. Yks. I’m going to get retested for Celiac. I only get sick when I eat junk food that is wheat. I’m wondering if some are more harmful than others. You say bascally gluten is in everything that has carbs. I don’t know, I have to pray about all of this. Its so extreme. I have weight issues. I get very skinny easily. Don’t gain weight easily. Giving up rice and all that other stuff, I will wither away, This is discouraging, but I respect you and will pray on all of this. I mean God created all of this. I get the modern day processes things and messes things up. But the bible is clear on wheat being eaten. I can’t understand why God would give us all these foods to eat and they be bad for us. I believe it must be in the processing. I will seek and I will find. Have a nice day.
Hello Scooby, only since a short time have i been looking at your videos, so i dont know where to post this question; do you maybe have a video about building muscle whilst having a labour intense job? i have much trouble maintaining weight and saving energy to work out…….. love your videos and your good explanations! best regards
Are you still Grain free? I am just getting over gluten wheat withdrawal, I feel like I am getting smarter everyday. I am going to eliminate rice, and corn chips. I was eating organic brown rice and Organic corn chips, red hots Garden of Eaten. My energy levels the next day was good, but my mood was a bit blue. I do have bi polar 1 and on lithium carbonate. I hope to be off meds, cause I know its just dementia in the making from grains. My mom had FTD dementia at 49, we had plenty of grains as a family.
Thanks for the video. I have come to a similar conclusion. However, every food plan has its own assertions and rationalization. The vegan Forks over Knives doctors claim that oil of ANY kind ruins the internal vessels etc hence heart disease and organ ‘decay’ over time = death and the litany of chronic diseases we suffer from as we age. I throw my hands up and admit we just don’t know. I am currently vegan and eliminating grains. Best of luck to us all.
All grains are evil! If it comes from the grass family, skip it! All grasses have similar proteins which make me ill!
Oats are great also to reduce bad cholesterol levels.
All these foods are great, but the worst enemies of our diet are salt and sugar. Limit the intake and you’ll lose weight fast and naturally.
Thank you for this video. I have been gluten free for three years and it has helped with some of the inflammation in my body but I still have extreme constipation to the point where I am bed ridden some days which causes me to miss school and gym sessions. My brother originally told me to go grain free and this video solidified it for me. I am hoping that I can have a better quality of life as my digestion improves. Thank you for this video!
I LOVE Quinoa!
But I so want to try other sprouted grains like buckwheat and lentils adding them to salads or green juices. Just sounds yummy!
Thank you for this! I went gluten and dairy free yet still have inflammation with bloating. Going to start next week to go grain free for 3 weeks and see what happens. Now onto planning my meals, God bless
You are 100 correct my dear. I lost 20lbs in about 4 months. no grain, no sugar. Many greeting from Europe. Je t’aime!

Unfortunately if you’re a bodybuilder it’s not going to work you going to be flat as a pancake but it is a healthy diet I agree.
Hi, Thank you for this video! Would you know any good cookbooks that support this diet/food pathway for grain-free and hunter gatherers?
Ok guys im intolerant to all grains give me anxiety muscle aches brain fog etc,
When i soak rice 24 hours in water i have no digestuve issues and other physical pain…. what a great thing i discover
Amazing! Thank you so much. I’m finding it so hard to stop grains/ food addiction struggles. This is good motivation.
I’m going to give this a try this month to get rid of inflammation, I found out I am gluten intolerant. This definitely affected me growing up I just had no idea so thank you for this! I’m egg, dairy, soy and now grain free:) will update with results
I try to eat as much alkaline as I can. Lentils, quinoa and rye my favorites.
I have started eating sorghum jowar flour flat bread its non gmo… It does not give me any issue… I have leaky gut n sibo… Plz guide me is it safe to consume… Also i was eating corn flat bread gave me no issues but i read its mostly gmo so i switched to sorghum….
for healthy life is corn plain bread will be good for regular breakfast? to avoid ibs,or any gas or acidity problems.from bangladesh.
I researched sourdough bread, (which I really like) it is left to rise, so that the bacteria have time to break down the gluten proteins.. thus it is more digestible.. the longer the better.. what is your knowledge on this Dr Vikki?
All grains have gluten. But the gluten in wheat, rye, barely, etc. are the problematic gluten proteins.
Even if you do not have a gluten intolerance, gluten free nutrition can have huge health and muscle building benefits but not for the reason you are thinking!
I was born with a twisted bowel and my mother lost twins before me.. I almost died at 12 mths of age… I had wall to wall amalgams, all the classics of gluten intolerance.. skins bad now etc. what are your views also on mercury amalgam poisoning.. and the destruction of the good bacteria in the gut… I believe its a huge contributor towards damage done to all cells throughout the body. Thank you for your information its so helpful.
There’s a difference between “gluten-free” as often used and proper coeliac disease, where you can’t even share a toaster for fear of cross-contamination via the crumbs inside. Even trace amounts can be an issue. When you talk about GF in this video, I think you mean the people who avoid wheat rather than those who are actually gluten-free. (Keep up good work, you rock etc.)
This is true for me about ricebloatedness, insomnia and joint pains after years of eating them. I also abstain from eating any.food with gluten. I feel so sickjoint pain, diZziness, acid reflux, insomnia, also.muscle cramps
DONT RETIRE SCOOBY WE WILL ALL GET FAT WITHOUT YOUR VIDEOS!!
Wow, I’ve never realized what amazing shoulders you have till today
Folks are afraid of carbs and sardines, but i eat ton of bread and 2 cans of sardines a day.
It took you this long to realize gluten is bad for you? I still remember that disgusting mushroom + gluten recipe video:(
Why is it I can seemily eat rice with no apparent issues but I blow up when I ingest corn
I love my sourdough bread and sometimes pasta. I’m gonna cry
Rice in moderation can be part of a healthy diet, especially cooked rice cooled in the fridge for 24 hours, then re heated become’s a resistant starch, you will absorb more vitamins and minerals. I am digging organic brown rice. Dr. Mercola said so. You want to only buy organic, because of the arsenic, same with potatoes, because of heavy metals, pesticides.
Nope cant be! I eat white rice everyday im fit and dont gain weigh eating it..
My buddy has gone from a FORTY-ONE inch waistline to a THRITY FOUR inch waist withthis manual “Kοnοnοz yyd” (Google it). I also have been applying this particular guidebook for one week and also I have already discovered a difference. I am much more enthusiastic and lost Seven lbs of the bodyweight..
i would totally recommend the paleo diet. It eliminates all grains and dairy and there is alot of information online and in books. It is a very healthy diet and totally eliminates culprits for gluten sensitivity. It changed my life and there are many recipes for it. Gluten sensitive persons should not eat any grains whatsoever
Gluten is just propaganda spread by potato farmers! I lived with a potato farmer for a good 10 years and I got to see all the nasty details of the industry.
My husband could be gone for days at a time and some nights I would wake up in the middle of the night by the sound of him and a few of the local potatofarmers outside our house laughing devilishly and speaking excitedly about their plot to destroy the pasta-industry. One of the men would always bring up one specific pasta-man, Bland McFlipburgs who he said had to be stopped.
Maybe if I provide you with some history things will make sense.
Bland was a humble pasta-man who had inherited a small farm from his father and he had always struggled getting his crops to grow. Not a real farmer in the eyes of many.
Then one day, to everybody’s surprise, he started to grow wheat (unheard of in our small town).
At first my husband and all the other potatofarmers just laughed at him. He was never going to make it. The only value one could get out of wheat was by making pasta and he would have to be delusional if he tought he could compete with Barilla and all the other big pasta-makers.
Bland used to travel into town on the weekends with his truck loaded with all kinds of pasta (mostly spaghetti) and desperately trying to sell anything.
Months would go by without him selling even a single spaghett. I felt sorry for him, but I could not support him for that would be a betrayal to my husband (5th generation potato farmer).
His future didn’t look very bright. He had to put his farm up for sale and he even had to sell his dog and three chipmunks. But then things changed.
The Fontana family visited town. The Fontanas had made a name for themselves in the pasta-market by bringing up small-town pasta-men, and boosting their business.
They travelled all over America hunting down the best undiscovered pasta-men and providing them the funds they needed in order to expand their bussiness.
Bland McFlipburgs was discovered by the family and in just one season he had expanded the size of his farm threefold.
Soon he was the talk of the town. Everybody had to try the Bland McFlipburg’s spaghetti.
In the next two years he had the land equivalent to all the potatofarmers’ land together, and his pasta-factory produced so much he had to export his spagetthi to Europe.
Now the potato-industry was at risk. My husband (chairman of Potato farmers United) gathered all the local potatofarmers together and over the following three months they held meetings every saturday trying to come up with a plan to reverse this rather alarming development of the pasta-industry. In this pace the pasta would soon rule the market and potatoes would become a thing of the past, in the process making half of the town’s farmers jobless.
They started to spread lies and propaganda, gluten being one of them.
At first I stood by my husband and what he and his fellow potatofarmers did. After all, my husband and his potatoes provide for our family.
But now things have gone too far and I cannot keep silent no more. They lie and try to manipulate the people of America with their propaganda and I feel like I have to spread the truth!
Please understand that gluten is a lie spread by the potato farmers of America!
God Bless! / Edna.
I recently went gluten free and it really sucks at first. But After I cut out bread and all gluten I started to feel better. And there are gluten free pasta’s and stuff out there.
Where did you buy that corn because unless you have your own farm that grocery store corn on the cob is Genetically Modified.
I’m grain free for 3 days now and I feel really good:) thanks for sharing this video. I’m excited to see more changes come in the future. So far I am not bloated and I have a lot more energy
Scooby, I don’t work out. I broke my back in the Army, so I do what I can but regardless of the subject, your videos are uplifting and positives. You’re a great man.
Thanks Doc for this information, I had a biopsy for Celiac disease 10-15 years ago. I was told I am Celiac and to avoid wheat and gluten as I didn’t want to end up in hospital or on anti-infIamatories. Also my weight was increasing, and as I was still getting sick eating GF foods. For the last two weeks I did my own elimination diet and researched this same thing and found out that I am Fructose Intolerant, Insulin Resistant. No Dr told me about Fructose Intolerance and I discovered that it goes hand in hand with Celiac Disease usually.. I did Keto for 16 months, minimal vegetables and felt a bit better, lost 80 kgs. I have been Carnivore for 4 months and am improving in leaps and bounds. I thought I’d fine after all this time and ate a couple of rice crackers with seaweed on them (Gluten free?) and corn cakes. I was up most of the night sick as a dog, never again, was praying to die!!! As you can tell, I survived and I am going to stay on a Carnivore diet forever. PS, just purchased your book
Going to miss your vids! Thanks for all of your advice over the years.
I mean, if something does suddenly work, I would like to know why. I just don’t have to know right now.
this is great and thank god all the bad grains I don’t like or eat lol
Scooby! How are you feeling after that cold? I hope you’re doing better.
I thought gluten was only an issue w those with Celiac disease?
There is not much left to eat?! With Celiac, how do we thrive?
hey scooby, are you going to work more on CMP after retirement?
like the usability and being able to duplicate day meals?
Me was about to eat white rice while watching this
Me: dam it
Also me: gets bread to mop up leftover food
Me: dam it
Also me: was going to make couscous for the next dinner
There is nothing substantial left to eat. I am going to die.
I had some digestive issues in the summer I’ve never had before. I went gluten free. Nothing happended for weeks, then my symptoms gone. Then suddenly it came back, while on gluten free, and I thought it is probably not that. I introduced wheat back into my diet slowly. Nothing have changed, and I feel good now. What’s the moral? Don’t think you are gluten sensitive just because you have some symptoms and there is a trend to go gluten free. Can be so much going on there. All I’ve found during these few months of experimentation is that I can’t eat pinto beans for more than 4 days in a row even in small amounts because it causes me stomach pain and bloating. Other kinds of beans and lentils are totally ok, but pintos somehow incompatible with my system. You can tell me to raise my protion size slowly, soak or cook them even more, I’ve tried everything and still, it bounces my digestion out of its rut.
If you have some issues, take your time and find your problematic food before you do any drastic change.
I ate white rice two to four times a week for the last three months and I still managed to lose 25 pounds.
hi Dr. i am from switzerland. i been dealing with IBS C i for over a 1 year now. been try to deal wiht my diet but didnt stop my self from multi grain flour or brown rice. my ibs is like some time good and some time not. i been to many doctor but havent got any help from any one. my skin on back and face been bad and acne on and off till now. i am 30years old. few days ago i been seeing rashes like dermertitis. its really make me uncomfortable. please your adivce on this would be helpfull.its far to visit you. please help.
It doesn’t take an hour to answer the damn question, Doc.
legumes mhas many varieties very delicious and healthy, and vegetables too
Sounds great. Thanks for all of the information! Do you eat seeds (like pumpkin or sunflower) and beans/ lentils? If so, do you soak them?
Scooby we will miss you, i hope to see some pics on social media of you flying your plane and doing barrel rolls and loop de loops and just having a good time.
So annoying announcing everyones name chiming in. Too much down time.
Hi, i’m on a gluten free, grain free diet because since the beginning of this year i started getting cystic acne since i eat them. I know its linked to my gut health. I have a coconut snack that i eat that contains brown rice syrup. I doesnt seem to break me out but i wondered if it would trigger inflammation even if i can’t feel it and delay the gut healing process?
Almond milk and soy milk are not “milk” like cow’s milk. The are called “milk” because they are a beverage.
They missed amaranth, better then any of the grains on the list!
Dr. Osborne, thank you for all your research and sharing your knowledge.
I have a question about burning mouth. Often when I eat wheat, nuts, seeds and whole grains, my mouth and throat burn. I also believe I have SIBO. Is there any link between burning mouth reactions and gastric inflammation?
Thank you for any info you can provide.
I have gluten sensitivy and am also type 2 diabetic and salt sensitivity HTN. The warrior bread recommended unfortunately would not be good for me re amount of salt and carb per serving.
It’s weird that the website specifically mentions goji berries as containing traces of gluten even though goji berries are usually gluten free, unless they share processing equipment with gluten containing products. Something that varies brand to brand and is mentioned in the allergen advice on the packaging.
Highly grateful for your passing of information I have done a lot of research to come across this idea and to have it confirmed rather than testing it again is so much better. I have never had many skin problems and when this intolerance spiraled out of control I felt on the verge of losing my mind.
I’m seeking treatment and keeping my knowledge growing. I’m currently going through an attack and still feel a bit weary about what to eat but I am considering paleo options minus some factors.
Are there any red flags about corn? Being it’s so genetically modified?? I hope for a future where people can trust the food industry
I’m also allergic to grain which have higher gluten amount like wheat, white flour etc but I use pure oats flour instead and rice maybe once a week….
I actually found this unique diet “Kοnοnοz yyd” (Google it) to be motivational. I should have worked on me mainly because I find myself I get plenty of energy daily and have lost Eight lbs on my weight over the past 30 days. It tells you specifically what you require and also points out every thing in greater detail..
Whole Grains, wheat, barley, rye, and oats all have Gluten which destroys your “VILI” in your small intestine making it difficult and eventually impossible to absorb nutrients so avoid it and this video if you want to maintain a healthy body.
Until the likes of almond flour and coconut flour (ie paleo diet) are affordable, I will have to rely on some grain or other for baking.
i used to eat alot of bread and it has caused me to gall pain and always bloated, after i switched to white rice, i was able to eat alot without any pain and i feel so well, you can try to eat alittle at first and see how it feel
In not trolling or anything but I have a serious question. If wheat and breads are bad, and rice is bad, also meats, and dairy. Then that doesn’t leave to many choices. Right? All that’s really left is fruits and vegetables. Then if you consider gmos and pesticides doesn’t that really say that everything people eat is poison? Reply please. I’m curious as to your answer
So I have watched your videos for years with joy, but never actually followed any advice and never improved in any way. But now, knowing that you will retire, I have a big FOMO feeling and started a really dedicated heath and self improvement life style!! Thanks!!! Maybe I srart building my own plane next year 😉
How do I get rid of grains without insulting my mom who wants me to eat her cooked meals (which is mostly grains like white rice, pasta). Also what should I eat to substitute grains? More meat/fruit?
All celiac disease sites say that rice is safe and it doesn’t contain gluten.
I notice I feel better when I eat brown rice, is brown rice better than white? It seems so because white rice is brown rice with the husk taken off, and then nutrients in often synthetically added back in
Does anyone know if organic brown rice is ok? Thanks for helping me.
And We shaded you with clouds, and We sent down to you MANNA and QUAILS: “Eat of the good things We have provided for you.” They did not wrong Us, but they used to wrong their own souls. Baqarah 2:05
And recall when you said, “O Moses, we cannot endure one kind of food, so call to your Lord to produce for us of what the earth grows: of its herbs, and its cucumbers, and its garlic, and its lentils, and its onions.” He said, “Would you substitute worse for better? GO DOWN TO SETTLED COUNTRY, where you will have what you asked for.” They were struck with humiliation and poverty, and incurred wrath from God. That was because they rejected God`s revelations and wrongfully killed the prophets. That was because they disobeyed and transgressed. They were struck with humiliation and poverty, and incurred wrath from God. That was because they rejected God”™s revelations and wrongfully killed the prophets. That was because they disobeyed and transgressed. Baqarah 2:61
And there were
wheat not at all and again they are considered poor foods
No rice. So now we’re down to the only safe food to eat is cardboard. Michelle Obama was right.
The thing which really annoys me is that virtually every M.D. who talks about this stuff appears to not have any clue as to the actual physiological, digestive process or disfunction of that process which causes gluten to damage the small intestine; or they are arrogantly assuming that no one but another M.D. would have any ability to understand the actual digestive process, and that there are a number of micro-nutrient ( mineral) deficiencies which can impair the digestive process BEGIINNING IN THE STOMACH, WITH THE APPROPRIATE AMOUNT AND STRENGTH OF THE HYDROCHLORIC ACID. Hydrochloric acid is needed to break-down the amino acid chains which make-up the gluten proteins. Your small intestine CANNOT break-down and absorb the proteins, only the amino acids. It is the undigested gluten proteins which cause inflammation and damage to the small intestine, leading to “leaky gut syndrome”, celiac disease, and other digestion related problems.
Also they process some rice with a coating like flour that obviously is bad.
I am also in a grain free Diet and I am seeing results way faster than when I was in e gluten free Diet alone by the way your skin looks amazing I know is the grain free Diet! Thanks for all the info you provided
Thank you for doing this series. I reached my ideal body weight 3 years ago after eating gluten free for 4+ months. The cross-reaction theory helps explain my “unexplainable” weight gain over the last 2 1/2 years after re-introducing my favorite gluten treats while maintaining my predominantly gluten free diet. I’m the heaviest I’ve ever been far surpassing my previous heaviest weight that I lost while living in Texas of all places
Just downloaded your book and this will be the third nutritional book in as many weeks. The Big Fat Surprise, followed by Grain Brain, and now No Grain, No Pain. You gave an excellent presentation, Thank you
No rice, no pasta, limit your bread you’ll lose so much weight, I know..I’ve done it
after being strictly gluten free for over a decade, then corn, then rice, then other starchy non-grains began to bother me as well (serious symptoms). this video explains why, I thank you!
What the fuck can we eat in the end? Fruits and Vegetables and thats it?
Hi I notice that when I stop eating foods with gluten for a day the pain instantly go away
I would like to ask what kind of software do you use to record and present lower thirds at the same time? It’s powerful to present and edit all at the same time. Thanks in advance.
Green banana flour is fairly new! Do you know it? An Aussie development! Great cooking flour
Honestly, what is the significance of gluten free? Is it really only applicable to people with Celiac’s? Or is it just a generally healthy kind of thing for humans?
I’m celiac and it’s not by choice. It’s genetic. Other today also have small intestine atrophy from GMO chemicals in most crops. The atrophy causes gluten intolerance.
Check out http://www.naturopathic.org to see if this career choice is right for you.
So I should not be eating rice? I dunno what I can eat. Already lost 30 lbs. I haven’t eaten potatoes.
I am LOST
I have gluten sensitivity and my doctor also found that I had lead and arsenic poisoning a few years ago. I wonder if the heavy metals were from my childhood diet. I had a lot of issues with my legs as a teenager, they wouldn’t work in the mornings when I’d wake up. I never find out what was wrong with me and eventually it stopped. Related to the hm’s and neurological backlash of gluten?
All this ‘gluten free’ business, this allergy that intolerance, these bodily inflammatory responses to whatever, air intolerance…. Is a symptom of a much, much bigger picture/ issue. If a certain population in a particular geography, exhibits consistent intolerance to stuff like dairy, gluten, night shade vegetables, etc… It means that said population is just overall unhealthy. Humans have been thoroughly digesting grains, wheat, cheeses dairy with absolutely no prob. so long as the food items were/ are organic, pesticide free, and properly soaked/soured/ fermented prior to cooking / consumption. Today we have a population that are ‘industrially ‘ born in hospitals and traumatically birthed, then administered totally unnecessary array of toxic vaccines that destroy infant gut flora.
Hey Dr. Pete
Just now having Youtube push this up the list.
Nearly 10 years after Celiac diagnosis.
Salad 3 times a day, have found salmon patties with red quinoa as a filler to be a go-to for lunchbox fare.
Occasional store bought GF brownie mix for a treat.
47 years old, 20.3 BodyMassIndex, 13 respirations/minute, 120/81 BP tonight.
Mostly good health, other than slow healing from days in Army and heavy construction before diagnosis.
I already lost a lot of white
Now I’m trying to gain weight and eat healthy.
Didn’t eat that healthy today since I ate a bowl of chocolate fudge banana icecream..
Smashed 4 oak farm fudge bars and half a banana in a bowl together.
Tasted good,but now I’m freezing.
How I lose weight
2500 calories a day
Eat healthy
Rice does tighten up the stools, my normal weight was 92, now 80 because of stool problems, eating rice, after washing it 3-4 times. Only eating 1/2 cup of rice at a time
I can’t Thank You enough Doctor for your continued post to YouTube, this is where I found you and watch you… ❤❤❤
Oh… and HAPPY NEW YEAR…
If we can’t eat even potatoes, whats is left to eat? Help please:(
What really bites about this is that not only are we taking gluten out, but rice, oats, millet, possibly buckwheat and quinoa according to the potential cross reactor list among some other carbs. leaving what starchy carb behind? The only one I see is sweet potato, because many autoimmune people cannot or should not eat nightshades (potatoes). Is that really it? AH! what is left?!!!
I’m sharing this everywhere. I’m so sick of seeing people saying it’s gluten free for rice, corn, buckwheat etc. Thank you.
Rice is the only grain that I can eat without issues. In fact, I eat so much rice that I’ll probably develop a food intolerance.
But not everyone with Celiac will have trouble with rice. I think that’s important to state as well.
This makes sense as to why I’m staying so ill
I thought if it came from the ground, I could eat it
There are many kinds of gluten free and grain free flours available at the grocery stores. You can choose from almond, cassava, arrowroot, coconut, tiger nut, tapioca, and green banana flour. https://www.glutenfreesociety.org/flours-grain-free/Gluten is the only universally accepted cause for autoimmune problems. A study looked at 78 product samples claiming to be gluten free. 20.5% of them had enough gluten to be dangerous. 62.5% of the cereals tested contained gluten. If you are new to the gluten free diet, you most likely were told to start buying from the gluten free aisle. Not so fast!A prior study done in 2010 showed that 41% of gluten free products tested positive for gluten. When initially going gluten free, the average person reaches out to the gluten free aisle in the grocery store to find substitutes for pastas, breads, cereals, bagels, etc. The majority of these people seeking gluten free substitutes either remain sick or experience reduced improvement in inflammation. Some research studies show that the number is as high as 92% of patients fail to heal. Most gluten free substitute products are made from corn, rice, and other grains (oats and sorghum) and pseudo grains (amaranth, buckwheat, quinoa). Unfortunately, these substitutes have been shown to cause damage for those with gluten sensitivity. Click the links in the article for some common examples:Studies on corn gluten
Studies on certified gluten free oats
Studies on rice gluten
Studies on quinoa Research has also shown that those following a processed gluten free diet can have a hard time healing. The study found that 81% of patients that were non responsive to a Traditional Gluten Free Diet responded to a TRUE gluten free diet (no processed foods and no grain substitutes). https://www.glutenfreesociety.org/grain-a-double-edged-sword/
So, it’s just kale huh? Ok. Is kale safe? And who can afford Functional Medicine? Not me.
