I’ve found cutting the vegetables up small (or even shredded) in soups, meatloaf, or bread or simple sauces to introduce the taste helps it go down much more easily than a solid lump of vegetable which can be overwhelming. Then to be certain it’s going to be almost painless we have them at lunch time after a huge play session. Heh, those little tummies will eat anything after that.
Helping in the kitchen and growing their own vegetable+salad garden helps too, it doesn’t need to be huge just something that will peak curiosity about those “pretty bits” in their lunch.
Dinner can be painless with small cut vegetables again mixed in the food and absolutely NO favourite foods sitting next to it unless they have the vegetables in it as pretty bits or you’ll help the vegetables be pushed aside and the meat and cheese eaten first and only.
Above all someone really needs to bother cooking in the first place and be creative, who cares if it’s not traditional as long as it tastes wonderful! Little tykes are not Cordon Bleu so flavoured yes but also simple to the young taste buds.
Mixed with this video’s advice you should be well on your way.
Sorry for the long post, but it’s been my strategy and I hope it helps.
It’s a little funny. Military basic training, and its following job specific schools, marks healthy foods as green, ok foods as yellow, and bad foods as red when you’re getting food at the chow hall. That’s kind of funny because the video does too at about 2:40.
Ok.. I dont talk about this but I am the biggest picky eater I dont drink milk or juice or honey or sauce or orange and banana green beans I could make a list forever so im bored so lemme do this lol.
sushi blueberry rasberry watermelon pineapple tomato cereal just let me please get a new life and have new tastebuds i hate beans and most vegetables and fruits and cheese and onion and btw this is a story with onions I was at maccas and with my friend and I ordered a cheeseburger WITH ONLY CHEESE AND MEAT and they gave me like 2 tiny tiny bits of onion so i handed it back and they still had a VERY LITTLE BIT and i havent had it and my friend was laughing at me it was so akward
Great tips as always, Ciara. Love the tip about the plates x
I love these tips thank you for sharing! I am going through it right now with an 18 month old! May I ask where do you buy your divided plates? Thanks! X
My alcoholic husband is 38 and a picky eater. I found a solution for him, I told him he can starve. He would rather drink vodka then eat.
Am I the only one who loves fruit, pasta, eggs, potatoes SOME meat, and pretty much hates most of vegetables. I really hate that I’m this way but when I eat something I don’t like, I feel like throwing up. I really hope that I’ll get out of this phase as soon as possible. I’ve been a picky eater from the age of 11 till now (14).
Hi! I just subscribed to your channel and bought your app because I made a few dishes for my toddler (he is VERY picky) and he likes everything I have made from your recipes! So thank you!
Question. Do you upload new recipes to your App as well as the blog? I just want to make sure I don’t have to check both places for new recipes. I would think so, but just want to check.
I’m 14 and still a picky eater, mainly because my family fed me ONLY pasta and fries growing up because of my brothers sensory issues. It’s still this way as well, and I’m always questioned when I try to make something healthy.
I’ve honestly stopped eating a few times (a week or so long) because I just don’t like many foods, and there’s so many times I wish I could just take a supplement.
I’ve gotten to the point where I kinda envy people who just disregard the texture as a whole and aren’t scared to try new foods, how do you guys do it?
I need this, I don’t like burgers or pizza and only like chicken nuggeted and I barely like jelly… sad line of food for me.
Everyone: watching the video
The lady: and this one looks like she did. she didn’t its just beets
Me:
Picky eaters are the worst! I just wana smack the shit out of them
I gave by friend a fast food sandwich that I though was so good and then he lifted it up and pushed it away because it had cheese and I was so pisses especially because he made a sour face
There’s also brownies that can have beans and stuff and I don’t even taste like they have vegetables in them
We did baby led weaning. It was much better than the purees for them, for sure. Love this so much!
I am very picky and can’t help it. I only eat junk food and I wish I could change but can’t! My mom always says when are you going to try new foods. She just does not get it. Some foods I liked when I was little I have tried to eat again but just tastes gross now. People say your tastes buds will change but for me mine haven’t. All I eat all day is chicken strips that I make in the air fryer which takes about 10 min. I don’t eat any fruits and vegetables at all. My mom also tries to get me to take a gummy that has vitamins in it and most kids like gummy’s but I hate them. I just can’t eat new food.
I became a picky eater when i started to gaon weight, around 8 or so, im 13 rn, so thats not good, still a picky eater btw
Best thing to do, is do not force your kid to eat what they do not want to eat. If you force them, they will hate that food for the rest of there life, and avoid it. Instead buy different things for them to try “if they want to try it”. Personally i like to allow my child to pick something new while we shop, then later i prepare it for them to try. Sometimes you will get lucky, and they will enjoy a healthier food choice. Keep in mind most kids do not like ugly or nasty looking food. Not because its not good, but because its repulsive in appearance. In this case find a way to make it look better, dress it up. If your child says they do not like something specifically, do not try to fix it for them. Listen to them, learn what they do, and do not enjoy. Gotta remember its there body that tells their brain what it does, and does not like. Its not up to the child what their body likes. It always upsets me to see a parent trying to force feed a child, or forcing them to sit at the table until they clean their plate. Its wrong, and will have bad consequences on the child for the rest of their life causing bad eating habits as well as stress on the child. Most importantly, it should be fun to eat and cook. You don’t want dinner time to feel bad for them. It should be something they look forward to. Some people are “health nuts”. People who take eating healthy way way to far. Which is fine, but they need to realize they should not push there habbits on to there child. Allow them to develop in their own way. Just because you like eggs, does not mean your child will like eggs etc etc.
Growing up my taste buds have remained relatively the same. I don’t like sauces or cheese and barely like any fruits or veggies. Every time I order food it’s gotta be plain and dry. Super frustrating when eating at friends but I literally can’t help it.
Great advice. To summarize, the gal in the video gives five tips. She advises parents to (1) relax; (2) introduce new foods slowly (it may take 15-20 times or over a month); (3) get kids involved in the kitchen beyond the fun stuff like icing cakes (e.g., chopping veggies); (4) make meal times fun (e.g., using colorful plates & offering a small treat surrounded by a variety of nutritious foods); and (5) hide vegetables (which she acknowledges is controversial). There is no new info in this video, but I like how she calmly explains herself. It’s definitely worth a watch.
My 2 years old daughter is extremely picky eater. She never liked any food some time I need to feed her by force because she is under weight. I am very tired of this and i feel very bad
Can you share how you cook chicken for 1 year oldwhat’s best way?
toddlers not liking veg may be geneticaly programmed from early humanity foraging an kids didnt know what was poisonous. also a vegetarian diet wont give a toddler the nutrients it needs. its called self preservation.
if u eat the same thing all the time, u could get malnourished
I literally cried and had a panic/anxiety attack watching this. It was always a fight, a battle at dinner and I this was almost every night from ages 5-9 yrs old, now I’m 11 and still a very fussy eater I don’t eat any vegetables I rarely have fruit I hate my body I’m fat and I’ve developed an eating disorder, first it was eating constantly when I was sad, depressed, upset, bored generally just eating constantly and now it’s more anorexia and the battles and fights every night at dinner stopped generally when my parents split up when I was 8/9 and we stopped having dinner at the table and now we either eat at separate times, always eating different dinner, eg my mum would have pasta and my brother would have a burger and I’d have tinned spaghetti hienz and like I just hated that they never tried, they still never do, eg like said in the video.. it’s just, ugh idk I need advice and I keep saying to myself, ‘just wait until your 18 then you’ll be okay’ ‘just till 18’ and so on bc I think that when I’m 18 I can move out, live on my own, or with a roommate, have a diet, go to the gym, go on runs, eat better or eat nothing bc no ones there to judge and become a better person and get fit even if I don’t have the self confidence I can get gym machines at home and become a better person, bc I feel awkward to any of those things in front of my mum and brother and change bc my family is.. well if I changed like that, even if I went on a run, they would question me and confront me and make me talk about it to them in a bad way and make me explain myself. I suffer from depression and anxiety and I get panic and anxiety attacks frequently.. idk I just know I can’t wait till I’m 18 but I’ve still got school and hating my body until I change and I still have 6 years yet (I’m 12 in 17 days so a few weeks) and even then I’ll still have proms and parties and swimming where I’ll hate my body and myself so I just need some advice to get myself through those 6 years until I change achieve my goal, so please just some advice would help a lot xoxoxoxooxoxoxoxoxoxoxooxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxooxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxooxox
My baby’s first real from-the-table food was chicken enchilada soup. Mushed up the beans and removed the corn and he would not stop signing for more. Sometimes, it’s the baby food they don’t want because the companies make them nasty! I know a lot of people who skipped ‘baby’ jars all together and just mushed up whatever was at the table.
Children are only fussy because their parents allow them to be. No Child will starve if there is a full plate in front of them. My mum was to soft with both me and my sister.( lucky for her I always liked my food) but my sister was so incredible fussy as a child because my mum thought she would be starving, she gave in. I tend to be more relaxed/strict. If they don’t eat what’s for dinner, than that’s it they go without.
I eat a variety of food but my 16 month toddler is hesitant to try anything. He just sticks to pasta, oatmeal, fruits, yogurt, meatballs and some veggies. Plus he is allergic to peanuts. I notice he isn’t a fan of trying food when at home but he is more likely to try food when we eat out. Although we mostly eat at home because of costs.
I may cook something separate if my kids tell me something before I start making dinner within reason.I will not make them separate meals everyday nor will they get them if we go out. They will eat what’s placed in front of them
I’m a picky eater, and 34 years old. 5 seconds in and you’re calling me a child?! When I was a child I would actually eat anything. Fucking health snobs! I’ll go somewhere who will give me advice without the mocking attitude. You just happened to be the first video that popped up. Literally took you 5 seconds to lose a viewer. And considering how many people have watched, and you’ve gotten next to no comments and barely any people giving this a thumbs up or down, I can see why.
I hate when people say I am in a phase, like, wow, what a long 17 year phase. I tried, but it is disgusting.
Also be aware! This is mostly for older children, but if you notice your child has a very strong aversion to certain textures or eating in general, it may not be something they can control. I have autism and I, to this day, struggle with what I can and cannot eat. Please take into consideration if your child is very choosy about other things (fabrics, sounds, if they stim). It would have been very helpful to me as a child to know that I wasn’t being a brat for not liking what I was being fed, but that it’s just a part of who I am. And that I should work with it, not against it.
my kids wont skip another meal again because of this here, l a z y h o m e p r o.c l u b
Thank you so much for this video, very informative and helpful! I’m a first time mom and have been worried if I don’t feed my baby enough solids and on the other hand she didn’t seem to eat much. This video, especially the lady speaking in the middle (from 12:00) gave me clarity and it was so easy to implement. To my surprise my baby ate almost everything I gave her the last four times I tried since watching the video. Amazing results and I’m now looking forward to preparing food instead of taking it as a chore.
Thank you my two is what I thought not eating while in fact he was just full
Wish i knew this stuff when my oldest niece was 4! But thing is, I don’t think this advice would have worked because she was so stubborn when it came to eating, she refused to touch fruits and especially veggies. She would tantrum the entire time screaming and crying “I DON’T LIKE IT!” even after being asked if she’s had the veggie and fruit in question and she has said No. She even refused to try it before saying she doesn’t like it. The demo with the mac and cheese, the mac and cheese would have been the only thing fro that demo she would have eaten and left the green beans and strawberries untounched and then would proceed to tantrum even if you encouraged her to eat a set amount. She just absolutely refused. So with her, i believe the only way she would have ate veggies and fruit is if it was hidden and didn’t know she was eating veggies and fruits because if she saw it, and she knew it was what she was required to eat, she refused to touch it. She will be 20 now in December and I hope like crazy she eats better now than she did as a toddler/small child.
Thank you for sharing! I’d love to see a video on what your family eats in a day. Need the inspiration:D
just found your channel you’re a life saver! going to try some of these tips thank you.
its not always just a phase, some people just dont like certain things, tastes or textures and i dont think u should force people to eat everything
Thank you so much but my mom is always negative and I hate it. It’s been 13 years and if she is only positive and not being positive, but when their kid says “I don’t want it”, they either fight with their child or leave them alone.
I was a picky eater in my childhood and I’m extremelly healthy nowadays. Thin, without diseases, very active in sports, e.g. I think smart parents should respect the signs that their children give them about satiety or rejection to an indigested food to avoid creating more traumas. Ps they won”t gotta die not eating your food. Just take them to a specialist regularly.
I have daugther.she is 2 years old.she doesnt want to eat food.

Me, a 20 yo who doesnt eat anything but pasta: Interesting…
just ordered a four pack of those plates off of amazon. I have a feeling its the best $20 I’ve spend for my daugther’s health. she is such a picky eater. This will probably be a fun way to help with that.
* hyperventilate * hyperventilate…….. * Gasp… Oh.. oh my Go.. clapping is so triggering…
My precious little baby is 27 months and refuses to eat solids she screams and kicks when I put her in the high chair it’s heartbreaking “I want mummy milk she shouts lol so I sit in the nursing chair and hold my precious little baby in my arms and gently rock her while she feeds so adorable xx
Ok so when I’m 14 and I am extremely picky like it’s terrible and when I was younger I ate literally anything but just a year ago or so I found that I am lactose intolerant and I’m also Dominican and I never eat the food my mom or family eats and all I eat at restaurants is chicken and fries
My child used to eat properly ( she ate everything), but since she turned 1,she started being picky e got worst day by day.
I’m a very picky eater and I will only eat certain things. My little sister however is much worse and as a result is underweight. I’m really worried about her especially because she’s only 8 years old! I hope she grows out of it soon! Her immune system is very weak and I’m worried she might die from sickness before she’s 18. I love her a lot and I want her to eat a tad bit healthier. Any tips?
Does this work for 24 year old fussy eaters? My husband is impossible.
my little sister likes cannabis naan bread and vodka as an entree
This is a information every parent should know. We have so many programs like WIC, regular check ups with doctors and there’s so much missed. I’m recently started to live the night mare of my 2 y NOT EATING AT ALL and this just made me realized I have been setting my child for failure and also failing as a parent. This is my bible. I am just literally start over (as she is a baby, from the begging ) hopefully the memory lapse we have as a child were we dont really remember at 3 y much of what happend before, will help for her future. I feel so disappointed of my self.
Hold motherload!
Watching this video made me realise that my mom worked these methods on me when I was a kid…..

I’m almost 16 and I’m really struggling with picky eating I’ve had it since my birth.
Can I just say how much I love that Kerrygold is on the thumbnail?!
More videos are needed like these!! Very informative and helpful tips for parents with picky eaters. ❤
For my youngest we fed her lots of healthy veggie and fruit shakes from the age of 2 on. I fed her a lot of organic veggies and fruits too and she is now 5 and loves so many healthy foods. It’s so true. You have to start them young. I made that mistake with my son. All he wanted was Mac n cheese and chicken tenders. I didn’t start him young with veggies and he is still the same at 9 yrs old. Ugh. But so true. Great vlog. Very imformative hope you can keep in touch
My one regret is that I didn’t really do baby led weaning with Ezra … next time it’s definitely on my list! X
I agree with these, Kaylyn. My kids love to help in the kitchen, and if nothing else, it makes them eager to try it, even if they don’t end up really “liking” it.
Even though we aren’t having kids anytime soon, I think about this topic a lot. This was super helpful!
Love these tips! Our oldest (biological) son is a great eater, but our middle (foster) son was raised on junk food and it’s a real struggle.
