Just like yoga poses themselves, yoga transitions have a purpose, and each transition is specifically designed to prepare your body for the next pose. There is a method to the process. Furthermore, yoga transitions, just like poses, are important to your overall yoga practice. You can touch your forehead to your mat, turn your head to one side or the other or place a towel under your head.
You’ll often transition through this pose between more aerobic portions of class. As you continue to practice, see if you can find a difference between yoga days and non-yoga days. Focus on the positive, such as feeling calmer or a boost in energy and mood.Doing yoga at home is an important part of your practice even if you have a studio membership. If you’re used to taking group classes, find out how different it feels to do the same poses on your own. You’ll probably start out feeling more relaxed when you don’t have to drive through downtown traffic [ ].
We often look to yoga for flexibility but not for the strength it can offer us as well. The practice of yoga benefits us in many ways helping us build balance, flexibility and strength but often the perception remains in the ‘bendy’ offering alone.. Strength-focused yoga workouts can help you gain and maintain the stability you need in your joints and body to get through the day with.
Couples yoga is a great way to build a foundation for intimacy, confidence, and understanding in a relationship. Try these partner yoga poses to deepen your bond.Crescent pose – take eagle arms and lift forearms towards the ceiling and lower arms down towards the thighs (repeat this a few rounds), keep the eagle arms and take eagle pose top of the mat – transition into figure 4 (offer arm balance variations here) – forward fold top of the mat – offer a vinyasa. One of the most challenging parts of planning a yoga class is figuring out when to do what. You might have an inspiring class theme or an awesome apex pose in mind, but putting together a sequence that adequately prepares the body for the poses you have planned, aligns with your intentions and the desired energetic effect of the class, and, of course, provides a safe, fun experience for.
If you do each one of these for 5-10 breaths, it also creates a great beginner’s yoga program for you to do every day. Here are my picks for the 10 most important yoga poses for beginners. Note: You don’t have to be able to do all these poses exactly as pictured. And from the beginning, I really wanted to practice and teach each asana “right.” In other words, with “good alignment.” For a long time I thought that “good alignment” meant “alignment that looks like what I see in yoga books and magazines.” I assumed that if a pose looked “right,” it.
Vinyasa, on the other hand, usually moves from one pose to the next at the teacher’s discretion. This transition coordinates with your breathing. It’s done specifically as you exhale.9 Grounding Yoga Poses That’ll Help You Feel More Aware Of Your Body. meaning one or two stacked on top of each other, and one perpendicular across to create a T-shape. Thank you Adriene! This practice was beautiful! Hope you’re all having a great day! Be safe, stay home! Namaste!
hey my name is adrian too. nice to see you on the internet.
Loved this peace o our thoughts peace in our words peace in our hearts… I will try and keep this as my daily mantra xxxb
I’m new in yoga practice and I really struggle with down dog! Thanks for the tips
After almost 2 months Im finally starting to find these more intermediate level classes the right level of challenging (as opposed to being so difficult that I would get frustrated with myself). It’s amazing how much yoga can help you gain physical strength, but also emotional patience and stability.
spring into yoga challenge day 17: I have never been as centered and balanced during a flow. Your instructions have helped me a lot. Thank you for this amazing moment.:D now I will shower and rest because I am damp and exhausted.
The pose at 7.03 when I do it, my whole body weight crashes into my knee on the ground. How can I keep it balanced?
Thank you so much Flow!! I really enjoyed it, thanks to this video I understood how yoga can be easier with this breathing exercise, thank you so much. Btw that place looks cool.
I surprised myself by getting fully perpendicular for 2 whole seconds….before crashing into my spotter, my 18 year old daughter who had no idea how to spot me. BUT I DID IT! I NEED A MEDAL OR A COOKIE OR SOMETHING!
Life is hard.
Life is joyful.
Life is confusing.
Life can be smooth sailing one moment and then the next… a sticky melting pot of rocky road.
Have you accepted and equipped yourself?
Were you aware that you were born a peaceful warrior?
This was helpful and fun. Thank you for explaining this so clearly:). Do you have any other videos that use yoga hurdles? This is something I’d like to work with.
Thanks to whoever asked this question. And thanks Adriene for explaining the transition. I thought I was the only person who couldn’t get their leg in the right position without using my hand. Feels great to know I’m not alone and how to get stronger. Thanks again.
THANK YOU!! <3:)
I tried this for a week and lost hope. After a month now, i tried it again and did it at one go! now im learning to balance my legs.
Here for the July 2020 Shift! I had to get help from my partner but it was still a good practice. Showed me how far I could go and then what I need to work on to get further. Thanks Adriene
90 straight days of Yoga with Adrienne! Been on a mindful, healthful journey, and so glad Adrienne has helped me along the way. Thank you and Namaste from one Texas girl to another.
Wow. I have my traditional 4 videos that I go through day and night. They vary from 6 minutes to 20 minutes and can feel very long and dreadful when doing my morning or night routine. This nearly 30 minute video seemed like 12 minutes, I actually had to check to make sure I saw the length right when I picked this video I will have to explore more of your content! Thank you for always keeping this community in flow
A very enjoyable practice as always. Several still minutes in hero’s pose allowed me to focus inward enough to realize that I have an imbalance in my ankle flexibility on one side. It’s all good, now that I realize that it’s there, I can work on it.
Magnificent Monday to you. So so so excited to have carved out this early morning time for my self it was FANTASTIC Jai Namaste
Cow legs has been such an interesting experience for me. I first tried that pose 2.5 years ago and definitely thought it was impossible for my body. Well flash forwardI often find myself sitting in that position without even thinking! Amazing what consistency will do!
Honestly, i`ve not felt good today, but i finished doing this practice and now i feel much better. Thank u, Adriene=)
PS By the way, i must have done this practice tomorrow, but i felt like i need more move today.
Luckily “Yoga for when you’re angry” was my next stop. Mindset is reset. Just not quite yet ready for headstand!
That’s one of the most useful Yogas.
As we all know, Hard work never goes in vain.
Great video, thanks! I got my 200 hour yoga certification 5 years ago but gave up my practice. Slowly getting back into it during quarantine. Really enjoyed this set!
I spent some bonus time in my warriors today and it was nice.
Why is it that it feels as if I have no room for my foot to go forward? I can only reach half way, perhaps it will get better as my core improves?
Aww I missed this! I had to leave for a bit because tests and finals and presentations were coming out of my ears. I sacrificed a lot to get through to the next quarter and I’m so happy I made it. But I’m here now and starting at the very beginning again just to get back into the groove. I can really tell that I lost a bit of my yoga mojo, but no worries. The worst possible thing would be to never start again. I honestly love yoga, and when I’m in my groove and constantly practicing, I feel a world of difference. Namaste
I think it’s awesome that we can have a discussion here too. It’s super chill in this comments section. My wrists really felt this one. As always thank you Adriene.
So close, but today. Unable to transition both knees to the chest without placing too much pressure on my cervical spine. This IS a fantastic tutorial, but I need to build a little more stability and strength before I can do it safely. Still, I’m closer than I ever have been before.
Thank you Adriene. I can’t do this yet but your direction is so humble and kind.
Great, thank you! practicing all your vids during lockdown. Hi from Paris 😉
This was the first video I ever watched of you, of course I didn’t do the position back then but It hooked me. Now 3 years later I still can’t do the position but I’m glad I found you Adriene. Day 9 of SHIFT in!
Edit: last try I did!! Against the wall but hey, it still counts!!!
Did not manage a headstand, but managed to pinch something in my neck….but I tried!
Still can’t do it, didn’t even finish the whole video, my upper back and shoulder were yelling at me but my goal is to do this regularly and see the progress. Thanks, Adrienne!
I think I need to build more upper body strength to get all the way up but I did fairly well today and I plan to keep practicing it thank u Adriane much love Namaste and good night ❤
I skipped this one for SHIFT and did Self Love Yoga instead. No way I’m busting my a$$ while I’m home alone lol
The moment you told us that there will be one minute of every pose
me: OMG, one-minute-long chaturanga:ooooo
you after a while: be calm, there will be no chaturanga here, you’re welcome
me: YEESSSSSS THANK YOU LORD
when you roll over and crunch all of your knuckles under your thick skull-OUCH!
Hey, how should I work with the headstand if I have a very long neck? It feels like the neck gets cramped even though I focus on pressing away the shoulders from the ears and try to build as much length as possible. Will def return to this video, hopefully my anatomy and muscle strength will allow for one day being able to do this! Thanks for the video!
I’m finally able to headstand thanks so much!!! working towards a goal in quarentine kept me sane
it could take years for some of us to achieve a warrior pose that is decent.. but that is a part of yoga, to keep up the activity for something greater
Thank you for thus beautiful practice and the inside on dancer’s pose!
The thing is: HOW DO YOU BLANCE LIKE THAT??! Im keep asking my dad to help me
Loved this flow! A little less peaceful for me today though as I was just enjoying a lovely twist and suddenly thought “why is my leg stinging so much??” Looked down and my yoga mat had been invaded by ants who were busy stinging me!! Clearly they wanted in on this peaceful warrior practice
Was goofin and totally ran into my dresser trying to show my sister what a headstand was. Smh. I’m new so I just wanted to show her the steps and ended going up but also back because I don’t have the strength. Don’t be stupid kinda salty she didn’t even try to save like leg tho smh
Some of the words you said today really got me. I heard you say them many times but today the fit perfectly.
Namaste!
Can’t wait to practice this! I find your voice so relaxing. Peace.
Once again thank you Adriane this daily practices for me are the first steps for me to grow strong and be a better version of me one who is kind to others and myself too. To know myself and recognize me as a peaceful warrior.
10 years of practice & no one has explained it to me like this. Thank you Adrienne!
Hey Adriene! I’ve been wondering if you could do a chaturanga how-to video. I’ve been practising yoga for many years now but have always felt like I don’t have the hang of it, and as a fibromyalgia lady I’m scared of doing it wrong and have thus kind of just done belly to cobra all these years. It would be a real victory for me to understand how to properly do it, and I’d prefer from someone I already trust. 😉
SUper helpful! Loved the last exercise. It’s so graceful yet powerful!
Can I just say I have a lot of respect for all you yoga masters. I did this yoga this morning thinking it would be easy but I was wrong. It was so hard for me to keep up with it. I was sweating and almost started crying because of how frustrated I was with myself. This takes so much patience and self control and mindfulness. But I pushed through and made it to the end of the video. Thank you so much for the video I needed this!:)
Wow, that was amazing, Adriene. It felt great becoming aware of my center and actually moving it forward! I love coupling your videos with my freeletics training. Strength is nothing without flexibility and concentration. Namaste!
My main problem is that my belly and chest are too big. I can’t even touch my palms to the ground when in a lunge with my foot aligned with my hands. Bad combination of large midsection and short arms.
OMG Adriene! I shifted my center a bit too far and just crashed my head into the wall in front of me! Yeah. CRASH! (Turning away from the wall on my mat, trying again, opposite direction!)
Oh my god!! I did it!! (Though it lasted only a few seconds)
not gonna lie, I totally felt like samurai jack going into that warrior 2 pose
SHIFT day 9, I thought to myself there’s no way in heaven that I’d be able to do this! I’ve only been practicing yoga by following Adriene’s Yoga Calendar since HOME 2020. I thought to skip it but then I did it anyway, halfway during the practice something clicked and I could lift one foot, and then the other. Then I lifted both feet and even though it was far then perfect I ACTUALLY DID A FRIGGING HEADSTAND!!! OMG!!! I really could cry.
I did fell over hard after another attempt against the door and my SO rushed to see wtf was wrong with me but at least I know I’d get better with practice!!! Thank you Adriene you’re amazing!!!!!
I am miles away from being able to stand on my head (palsy means I can’t build strength in right arm) but definitely got further than I thought in this pose. Thanks Adriene for breaking it down so well! #shift2020
Any tips for a gal with big tummy, wide but short legs and little plump arms. It feels like trying to thread a needle with a rope. Lol On a good day I can get my leg to the outside of my hand so I get some positive feedback for myself but I know its not what I so want, it looks so beautiful when done properly. By the way of all the yoga on line videos I love the way you come across with your teaching style. You allow me 2 feel so good about even just trying. Thank you. I love Benjy too.
Thank you for making this video and guidance about raising awareness of our own body. I struggled with this for a long while and now i understand that I tend to think about ‘swinging’ my leg forward to meet my hands and this causes me to go “haywire” ie. hips were swinging out and landing with a thump and get all exhausted after a few rounds of sun salutations. The focus and reference points were more clear now from your pointers. With all my heart, thank you Adriene!
Mmm Shift Day 9 done ✅ and I am feeling on top of the world… I actually got my legs up and held it without the wall! Of course I was near it & normally I would have had my feet on it, but I didn’t, I pushed up and breathed and held it for what felt like forever! One Happy Yogi here… Namaste
Yoga people are so weird.
That being said, I like yoga and people who do yoga. I’m just saying, it’s weird.
I LOVED this practice. Thank you for this and all your hard work and other amazing videos. I always manage to find something that fits exactly what I need, and you make yoga so accessible to everyone:)
This video gave me peace on my rainy day. Thank you. Namaste.
Oh dear, lots of practice will be needed here…..Think 2020 I will focus on Tree Pose and Crow, maybe next year
I am here during Shift 2020 and I’m very upset you added this video into a “beginner friendly” 30 day yoga program. Headstand should not be practiced alone at home with a YouTube video, especially this outdated one. I am an experienced practitioner and full time yoga teacher and I hated this practice. You rave about the benefits of headstand in the beginning without ever seriously talking about the very dangerous contraindications of this pose other than “loving yourself”. There is essentially no warm up for the muscles needed for this pose other than the shoulders. I have a mindful headstand practice but when following along with this video I couldn’t get up to headstand because there was no sufficient warm up and the instructions honestly weren’t clear. I love you Adriene but seriously, this video doesn’t belong on your channel let alone on any beginner friendly 30 day program. This is how people get seriously hurt, headstand is one of the worst poses often portrayed as “yoga”.
Unfortunately my shoulders were far too sore and tight to make this happen, but I’ll keep trying. Thanks!
Thanks for posting this lovely balancing practice. I really enjoyed it.
Thank you! I’ve just watched it and I’ve just practised it and I am now able to bring my leg nearly between my hands!
I think my boobs might be the obstacle. Im also tall so I just don’t have enough room to get my foot to the top.
One of my favourite “Goldilocks” practices not too much and not too little either.
Managed to do a little of dolphin this time for the first time, due to a few forearm planks in the past couple of weeks. Couldn’t hold it as my left thigh was screaming at me
Thanks very much Adriene! See you tomorrow ♥️♥️♥️
Hello Adriene,
Thanks for this video! How do I know whether my down-dog is too long or too short? Many thanks. From London.:)
Great tips to help me on my yoga journey; Swanning along, one millimetre at a time.
Hi, thank you for this video. When I go from downward dog to lung my knee gets suck on the outside of my arm instead of landing in the centre and it’s totally uncoordinated and weird, I would love some help with this. If you can understand what I mean. Thank you Adriene xo
Thanks so much for all these very Nice vidéos!! Am doing your classes every morning but this latest one translates very well to Bjj. Take care
I am not getting the head cradle part when I push away from my forearms, my head lifts and does not go in the cradle where my hands are what am I doing wrong?
I have never written a comment before but I just need to say THANK YOU. When I saw this video featured in the July calendar, I was very reluctant to try it but this morning you made me feel so safe! Of course have only managed to take 1 feet off at a time but this is more than I could ask for… Will continue strengthening the upper body and practising!
This was really just what I needed today. Thank you as always.
Love her variation of headstand practice for beginners wherein she conscientiously guide us to do it. Really perfect for those who’ve never done headstand. I was able to do it in 5 days, for 5seconds after more practice, I can now do it for more than a minute. Consistency is the key!:))))
That was a great practice! Calm and slow but intense! Than you, Kassandra!:)
WoW lovely #ywaNurture April Month with #yogawithadriene on this path to #fwfg
I’ve been doing these videos live on facebook to encourage people to do yoga while under quarantine. thanks for these <3 stay safe. stay sane. keep stretching!
I’m rather on the flexible side so I don’t have problem with twist and so… but when it come to poses where one must be in balance and strong core I’m feeling shaky I really wonder if it’s my body who is shaky and not strong enough yet or is it something on my mind or life that is shaky but reflect on my shaky poses ♀️
This is SO HARD for me! Thank you for the lesson in transitions!
I’m wondering if this could help relieve tension in my neck.
Obviously we have to build the strength to be able to support our weight with our shoulders.
But I did physical therapy and they have this expensive machine to pull on my head, which at times was too much. This pose seems like it would be a lot better. Obviously there is more work involved and we can’t go around recommending it to people, but as someone who has already exhausted physical therapy and chiropractic resources, I personally think that building up to this could help me reset my neck.
Woooow, this video totally changed how far forward I can step my foot. I never did the rocking forward motion so I never felt like I had the space to get my leg through properly. Love learning these small but mighty adjustments
tried to do this for the 1st time today on Andrew’s practice on the app
umm…… tomorrow’s another day to try is all I’m going to say
Wow, very spectacular video, with a bit of luck I can pull a “yoga poses for 2”. Thank you and really useful for me
my non-public blog http://yogaforbeginners1.Com
I just did this class. I have done it before and it is always challenging for me, but I am proud to say that this is one that I can keep up with. I love a challenge! Thanks again Kassandra for being such an awesome teacher and for providing these classes for us!
Great videos! A great way to work out trough out the quarantine. I’m glad I found your channel, very inspiring!
I introduced yoga to my students 3 years ago when I discovered everything it did for me. We had an actual instructor come once a week and teach, but her schedule changed and we found another, who then became ill and long story short…I realized if I got the right connections I could access Yoga with Adriene on You tube! Our tech department came through and the kids love watching her and doing yoga! Starting them early, 30+ 6 to 12 year olds! This one is a fantastic video because she is so good at explaining everything and no put downs….I have been following her for over 5 years now and I don’t think she can make a bad video lol!
This was just what I needed on this rainy day in covid quarantine. Even though this video was posted in 2018, I found it so helpful in the current situation to find peace. Thanks, Adriene!
This was so fulfilling for me today! I trained back at the gym earlier, so this was a beautiful stretch and release from that! Thank you!
I just finished this practice and I’m not sure what I did but I have a headache at the right temple. I’m working on some very tight shoulders from many years of using a computer mouse but has anyone ever given themselves a headache while practicing yoga?
Thank you so so much for your videos:) You are really a great yogi! Much love x
There is something wonderful about the Peaceful Warrior pose that just makes me feel so very much better. Thank you for this video.
I really needed this as Downward Dog to Lung is a difficult transition for me. I am taking the time, during quarantine, to improved my yoga practice. Doing so is a great use of the extra time I have now. I plan to complete the entire Foundations Playlist! Your instructions are very clear. Thanks.
This was great! I have always had trouble with this transition. Thanks for the help and all of your videos. I absolutely love them!
Thank you!
I also notice an issue when moving through downward dog, lunges and warrior poses. It seems like sometimes my position is too wide (legs too far apart from each other or my hands), and I need to keep adjusting quite a lot. For example, going to warrior 1 from lunge, my legs are definitely too far away from each other, and then returning to plank and downward dog my legs and arms have too much space in between, so I need adjust so that the downward dog and plank are actually different poses:D any advice on this? My arms specifically are quite long.
Adrienne, I tell people all about you! You Re my yoga class! So easy to learn from you. You are real, no judgement, no language that I have to look up after the fact.
Would definitely love to see more instructional video like this one. It’s slow and gives the basics, once mastered we can go from there….. keep up the good work girl!
Thanks for the video… Moving from the center is something that I have learned because of you!
i got to the middle of the video and I’m proud but how tf did all of you do it so quickly lmao hahaha congrats
This is literally what I’ve been waiting for! Finally a video that shows me the transition from down dog to low lunge. And the idea of moving with the center and moving the leg along opens up a new way for my practice. Thank you so much!
Thanks so much! Wonderfully helpful stuff here… and cool pants!:)
Day 27 Very grateful for this video! Because of the pandemic, I’ve been feeling kind of anxious and this lovely practice made me feel so much better! Thanks once again Adriene! Namaste ✨
I always do your classes in the morning before work. I appreciate these classes with different times and intensities. Most days I like to do either your 30 or 50 minute videos. But times like today where I have less times I am able to still get a quick workout in. Thank you.
I’m not there yet but maybe tomorrow! I love when you start fromthe absolute basics, Adriene! It makes these postures seem much more accessible. Namaste
This is the only headstand tutorial you ever need
I practiced everyday and achieved this pose in a month
Does anyone else not feel a “flat part” of their head? I feel so much pressure and my head won’t stop rolling forward
For me, that was challenging and beautiful. Thank you, Namaste
I’ve been doing yoga for years, and no one ever explained to me this foundational thing to me. I’ve been swinging my legs up each and every time. Now I understand, and now I can GROW. Thank you, Adriene!
Nope, tried this today following the shift calendar but I had to stop half way ahah I’ll keep trying though
this might be my favorite practice ever!!! I feel so good and like some way peaceful I guess
Hey girl! I did this today, but I have been doing headstands by building a sort of tripod where I have my elbows up and set my knees on my elbows then lift my legs. I plan to try and learn this way as well, but can I do the tripod when I just want a head stand?
Awesome !! Check out similar video to this here!! https://youtu.be/LEUtoIWPLo0
What an amazing flow!! So intentional! So good! You rock, Yoga with Kassandra!!!! Thank YOU! We’re so lucky to have you, all your work, and love for helping people be healthy ♥️
I’m so grateful for you Adriene, I really struggle with this transition. I have a spinal condition and have some weakness in my lower body. Now I know to work more on my core alignment then that’s what I’ll do every practice. I’ve started deepening my pigeon and I’m up to 12 deep breaths lying down and 12 sitting up with my extended leg bent, foot up to the ceiling. I can also grab my toes I’m seated forward bend. So if I’ve managed to achieve that in 5-6 weeks, you bet I’m going to nail that transition!! Thanks so much beautiful, you’re really valued and appreciated
if do yoga daily however if I am having issues getting into a pose such as dancers how often should I be working on that pose in order to perfect it? Do i have to do it daily? if so how many attempts each time I practice? Thank you love your work and your calming voice!
This video saved my yoga time!! I was doing everything so wrong!!! Thanks a lot!
So glad Adriene included this video in the July calendar! I learned to do a headstand a few years ago with this video but didn’t realize how much I began to muscle my way into the pose instead of working from the ground up. This was the perfect reminder to let things unfold and honor the process.
I’m also just proud I didn’t collapse onto my cat when she ran onto my mat with her toy while I was upside down. The joys of at home yoga ❤️
Beautiful class Kassandra, thank you so much. This is a great way to take dancer’s pose, and your tuition is excellent. Many thanks!
As someone who’s always struggled with inverted poses, I almost did a head stand today and I couldn’t be more stoked!!
Today, I’m like hummm do I… then I get onto my mat… all is okay. Thank You again Adriene As always you just know how to make us feel good
Have a Beautiful day today all around the World
Stay Well everyone till we meet again on the mat ♀️
Namaste
Hi I am vedha I am fat and slim now how to slim pls say ya I am not babolala I am babolala “s before boy what Menes I am the boy fighter whet men’s that is my father pls say
This was challenging but loved it! I feel very good and flexible after this yoga:)
Also, I have a request for the yoga class theme. I am having a hard time with the reverse prayer pose and I would really appreciate it if you would make a video to help make shoulder and arm more flexible and help get into the reverse prayer pose.
Tried it for the first time. Couldn’t complete it today but see you in a year I suppose. Love you Adriene. Thank you:)
Going to need a stronger sports bra for this. Almost suffocated myself.
Love this practice! I’m not really great at peaceful warrior, but this is a really wonderful flow. I feel like I worked my muscles and my mind too. I’ve been using foam blocks for the first time and absolutely love ❤️ them! I hesitated to get them for so long. I’ve been using printed information to help me use them properly. Now I’m glad I bought them because I can get deeper into the stretches and protect my body while growing my abilities. If you ever want an idea for another video, I’d love ❤️ to see one using blocks!
Were kind of unsure about if whether I should do this one or not but I gave it a try and ended up going half way without using the wall for the first time
Trust adriene trust the video
Omg I did it, my knees bending in the air, it was amazing. Could it hold it for like ten seconds. I’ll be working on this, thank you so much Adriene. ❤️❤️❤️
This video was so helpful!! I’ve been watching your channel on and off for at least two years now and I’ve finally committed my self to following a long at least two days a week! You are amazing and your instructions are so clear that I feel comfortable enough not to always have my eyes on the screen!! Keep up the great work!
I friggin did it!!!! For a few moments but I did it!! Thank you so much! Day 9 #ywaSHIFT, Namaste
I love this channel and her flows. Not a negative review of the content. This comment is just for anybody else out there who may also have misophonia: avoid this video if you are triggered by swallowing or mouth sounds.
This requires extreme flexibility and strength, not everyone can do this. Instead of showing you can do the pose, why not show how to work towards that flexibility and how you build the shoulder and arm muscles to execute the pose.
Just a while ago i couldn’t land my feet anywhere near my hands, but after watching this and knowing the trick, i was able to land it beside my hands!! Altho not as aligned as adriene’s but better than yesterday and earlier today. Thanks so much! I’ll practice more each day.
P.s. i can’t stay long on the hovering knees position.:((( i think I have to work very harder on that
This one was challenging for me but so satisfying! I really appreciate the very clear instructions and pacing of your videos!
This is very hard for me. I cant get very far. Lol it’s a work in practice.
Would you please make a video on full flexibility of whole body including warm up.
Feeling simply happy and truly alive
thank you for all of these transformative practices, Adriene!
The video title drew me in and it was indeed something different! Thanks for your work in these interesting times. Warm wishes from autumnal Wellington.
Thank you for the long savasana! Its nice to relax without the next video starting!!! Great class!
Exactly the kind of snap back to reality I needed! This practice totally solidified the kind of attitude I needed to go through this day with love and peace. Thank you Adriene and Benji! Nurture Day 27 in the books!!!
I knew I didn’t have enough upper body strength to do this right now and almost skipped it but I gave it a go anyway and I’m glad I did. The first half gave me some excellent positions to improve my strength. I won’t be able to head stand anytime soon but I will continue practicing bending and straightening my legs on my forearms. I am not putting my head down yet though because I found myself wanting to put weight on it for support. When I no longer want to put weight on my head I’ll know it’s time for the next step.
Dancer’s pose is certainly a tricky pose! In this 60 min flow we properly warm up and work our body in order to master this challenging balancing pose. Hope you enjoy:) Please remember to subscribe, it makes a big difference and helps support free online yoga!
Super helpful! Thanks. I have been clumsily trying to make this transition without success.
I woke up grumpy and irritable today. I came to the mat with the intention of dropping some of my aggression. I saw that it was the “Peaceful Warrior” practice and thought I would utilize today’s practice to find inner peace and focus. I found something else: laughter! When Adriene requests we follow the sound of our breath, I happily oblige. But it’s allergy season, so I followed the sound of my whistling nose and giggled the whole time. It might not have been the goal of the practice, but I feel way better now!
Nurture day 29!
Like many, I’ve been on this journey in quarantine. While the days seem so repetitive and it’s easy to feel like we’re just holding and waiting for life to start again, I’m still so amazed at the magic of yoga.
This was a beautiful practice. It made me realise new things about myself, which is truly incredible when we consider how static life has been over the past weeks. Nurture was such a gift to wake up to every morning in these strange times! Very excited for Meditate, and so grateful for everything you do for us Adriene, and for this community. Hope everybody’s doing okay sending love xx
This was my first time I have to come back to this video many times before I can complete a proper headstand ♀️ With patience, strength and balance I will succeed someday ♀️❤️ TY Adriene, the foundation of yoga videos are awesome
What does it mean when you can get your left leg up easily, but your right leg you can’t?
I do one of her videos every morning and it’s made quarantine so tolerable and lovely
You are just an excellent teacher holy schmoly!! I was struggling so hard with this transition up until day 11 in the 30-day challenge and I. Freaking. Got it. Thank you x10:)))
SHIFT day 9 July 9 I couldn’t pull it off…for a beginner it’s too much..but I will reach there eventually…I am a winner till I keep trying….thank you Adriene
Such a lovely practice, amazing stretch and I feel very at peace. I felt like a pretzel doing the cow legs!
Hi Adrienne do you have a video on transition from downward dog to walk to your feet or jump to the front of the mat? Thanks.
I’m so glad I found this video. I have never been able to lunge forward but at least now I have some direction. Thank you so much!
Am I the only one who’s afraid to break her neck? Haha I wasn’t able to do the headstand tho I’ve been practicing for a while. But no hurries, I’ll keep practicing and maybe add this video on my daily yoga. ♀️
So impossible to do. Have been trying for years and will try again, but it ruins the flow for me
This class was very challenging, but I enjoyed it and now I feel quite tired but also more flexible than one hour ago. Thanks. Please, do more 1 hour classes!
Hey Adriene where did you get those leggings??? I want them!!!
My words at the end: “Namaste, my babe!” Odd! Great practice! Very chilled, thanks!!! Just what I needed!!
I really love this slow, yet very effective flow! My only issue is with the side planks because I feel like my wrists are not warm enough to do those… But I just do some Child pose or Plank, and it’s great! One question about the Hero pose: do you have to keep the knees together or they can also stay a bit wider, as for Child pose? Thanks, namaste
Your explanation of down dog to plank and back made so much sense! Thank you!
I just practiced this one again and I really had fun this time cause I got some more strength in my upper body so this was amazing I am going to keep doing it daily and see how it unfold thank u Adriene much love Namaste and good night ❤
Life without being with the one you love. Our life can be walking together forever with true love life can be about going for the one that you really love in person I give you a heart Adriene.❤ and this one you’re beautiful belly❤ that’s beautiful life all natural
I find that I am not able to put my back foot down flat while my palms are flat on the floor. Is it ok for me to do it up on the ball of my foot rather than flat?
I think I need to accept that my arms are just way too short to pull this off. There isn’t enough space between me and the ground to fit my leg through.
I love this practice. It brought tears to me, which was so needed. “The most important relationship-with yourself.” “How you move is important.” Thank you.
So avoided this till the afternoon. No headstand but nice to try. I have been enjoying the July calendar, thank you. Namaste
This was wonderful and challenging. I ahad to stop a time or two but was able to jump back in instantly thank u so much

Great class as always Kassandra! Aloha and have a great day.
I am really struggeling with my left leg, watched many video’s but I always come back to you. You are real. And you give an integrated explanation. Thats wy I love YWA so mutch. You are the best. I keep practising and will not forget my center. Its the yourney that makes the difference.
Adriene and her videos bring so much positivity to my day. Thank you Adriene.
It looks so easy when you do it:)) But it needs a lot of practice to achieve it.
There are so many comments about falling down no one should try headstand if there is a risk of falling down! It’s so dangerous and this video is incredibly irresponsible. Don’t learn headstand at home!! Go to a studio and work with a teacher. This is unsafe
Hi Adriene, this video is so great and it has helped me very much. I love it! I was wondering if you would be willing to explain how to transition from plank to upward facing dog. I have seen other YWA videos where you do a half pushup and the move to upward dog. I would like to understand how to make that transition. Any tips you may have would be much appreciated! Thank you!
you’ve got to share where you get all your cute leggings and yoga gear. been doing yoga camp and love love love the gray skinny legs and these leggings are awesome too
Shift. I never would have chosen this video on my own, so this is good. I made it about halfway through and will keep trying. Thanks, Adriene! And good luck to everyone.
You have beautifully explained the science behind….! Namaste! Loads of METTA!
Amazing tutorial! I got there on the first try! Unlike with other videos:) I realized it’s lot about trusting my core strength, squeeeze it, its there!
Perfect, just what I needed nice and slow and mindful. Many thanks! Barbara
How.
I don’t understand how to keep the legs up.
They just fall down again. Gotta be something I’m doing wrong position-wise.
Thanks so much! Been doing yoga at home for a couple months and this was a sticking point. This has inspired me to work on it.
This one was randomly up on my You Tube today and was exactly what I needed. Thoroughly enjoyed:-) The thread thru twists are amazing stretches! Thank-you!
Hello! Just want to let you know that finally, I am able to do headstand after 100-day doing trial and error. Thanks, Adriene!!!
How amazing this practice was I needed it. Been a bit stressed and anxious lately, and this is the first to help me ease out those feelings.
Thank you Adriene! You make this world a better place
This was such a beautiful and fun practice! I found something new again and I found back to myself after yesterday being pretty hard on myself. Today I found the connection in utkatasana.
Shift 2020.. Now this was fun to watch:) For now when I try doing it, feels like rocket science. I shall start practising. If I can do a crow I should be able to do this one day. Thank you Adriene for making it look so effortless
Awesome routine practiced it by today. Feeling great. Thanks a lot.
I love the warrior poses especially peaceful warrior! My body was stiff after sleeping and in this practice it found peace and ease. Thank you Adriene xx Namaste
I used to be good at head stands, but that was 50-55 years ago! Went well with the wall for moral support! Did a short one in the middle of the room…work in progress for sure lol.
Day 261✨ “peace in our thoughts, peace in our words and peace in our heart “ love these words
So I thought hmmmm interesting am I going to crack my neck, squash my cats, will anyone come running to save me from a crumbled mess when I come tumbling down. BUT NO, my neck is intact and no cats were hurt during this practise. But my husband came only bc I called out in my state of upside downess “honey look quick! quick!, take a photo! take a photo!”.Geez I feel good after that. Thanks Andriene ❤
Wow, this was really challenging! Couldn’t cross the halfway point today
Been working on core strength but still can’t get my legs up.:( More work to do I guess!
Omg Adriene why are you so slow in explaining I almost fell asleep
Thank you for your light. Great yoga practice. Hello from Siberia
Thank you so much for explaining this! I’ve never been able to do this and it’s frustrating but now I’ll have some things to keep in mind as I keep trying!
Your breakdown/technique videos are amazing. I have watched the wrist one, the downward dog one, and now this. I can really feel the attentive difference.
Wow! I have been wanting to learn how to do a headstand, I have followed along short 5 minute videos. However, this one was great because of how involved you were with how to build strength and take it step by step. Thank you! Very helpful!
using this to back up my 30 days challenge….thank you Adriene
Totally got myself up briefly and then fell into the table lol
happy day 29 everyone! my goal is to finish the last three days strong! i’ve been off and on with my practice recently but i want to see if i can really add yoga as an essential part of my daily schedule
Thank you so much for all your videos! My husband and I have been following your hour-long sequences every day for a few months now, and we feel stronger, more flexible, more stable, more clear-headed every day! You’re our favorite yoga teacher. Much appreciated!
You two are excellent!
Just what I needed, going to do this one, as I didn’t do day 17 of your 30 day program today:P
thank you so much for your work and calming attitude. maybe if you could do some climbing specific flow sometime? climbing requires much compression strength and tension so it would be great to be able to do that kind of training just on the mat. Anyway, thank you one more time!
Thank you for making this video! Transitions are so hard and confusing to me. They are always done quickly in my class, and my forward leg never seems to end up far enough, while everyone around me seems to get it right at first try. I haven’t been able do the transitions smoothly, but I will practice with your video, you explain so well, thank you!
Loved this practice, especially the ending where Adriene moved from the head, to the lips, to the heart before whispering Namaste. Gratitude starts from within x
This was a good way to start my morning. Can’t keep the front leg straight on pyramid at this point but I will keep at it.
It works I can’t believe
I’ve been trying to do it and it worked
Adriene, just want to say to you, you are an awesome teacher… thank you for all you share and do. learning so much with you!
Sarah (uk)
Thanks. It’s very light and gives good warm. Good way to start you day. Like it.
I did it,[email protected]@@@against the door, I was like I ain’t doing that when vid came up
Amaaazing! Your method really gives me the courage to try. Doing your practice everyday is really helping my body.
Your sequences are absolutely incredible!! So inspiring and fun, it makes it so that I look forward to taking your classes, even though I still break a sweat and get a great workout! Thanks Kassandra!
#ywaNURTURE
such a needed practice, thank you Adriene
namaste
Namaste.
This is my second session with you. You are very much appreciated.
These warrior variations are great for any level of hockey player. Excellent video!
@ 0:42, what a posture she has and slim? felt like a real warrior standing in a chinese movie.
Calming and stimulating. Another amazing session.. Thank you very much! Greetings from London
Love all your classes! They are so creative and varied. I love the one you do just for women, I do that one at that time of the month and it is exactly what I need!! Thanks and keep posting classes..Namaste!
I’m new to yoga, and your videos are filling a huge gap/need for me. Dude…. THANK YOU for all of the work you give and for modeling self-kindness. You just told me to “be on your own team.” I love that. I’m super appreciative of your tips, instruction and flows. Thanks, Adriene! Wishing you continued success.
Thanks for having a loving voice and attitude. That is the Heart of Yoga.
Thanks! That was perfectly explained. Also, you’re very pretty & you have a nice butt.
This one was fun and the progression was just enough for me to nail the pose. Thank you.
thankyou so much for your hard work kassandra:D this is a great video for someone transitioning from intermediate to advanced <3
THIS is the video I needed. Thank you! Thought I was doing something wrong when I couldn’t “swing” my whole leg through. Just needed to be where my body wanted me to be.:)
NURTURE DAY 27, you’ve been my source of comfort every single day during the quarantine. Thank you Adriene <3
Would love a video on transition from Chaturanga to Updog I always feel like my toes get caught up in some weird position!
You’re a wonderful teacher and your instructions are spot on! How long have you been teaching for? I’m not nearly as eloquent as you are, but I hope to be one day. Thank you for inspiring me.
I’ve got persistent neck pain. I’m kinda scared to try this one out
Tried but no lift off. Not sure if I’ll ever be able to do this. Wish I was stronger.
May peace rest upon this earth with ease.
With blessings and love
Thank you
even if i don’t feel like starting, every time i show up on the mat, i get exactly what i need… thanks adriene for being such a great teacher!!
Thank you Adriene. That was just amazing, beautiful and brought so much peace to me
Dear Kassandra, I am amazed by your wonderfully sequenced, perfectly cued top notch flows. Absolutely awesome class, thank you so so much! I loved every second of every minute of this beautiful, mindful class.
After watching tina yong’s video, i came here to practice it as well, but omg is it difficult, i absolutely cannot do it
Thanks for explaining and breaking down the parts of the movement of the transition between poses.
Is there a sequence of working through your tutorials you’d recommend? So far I have been wandering around in no particular order
I’m gonna practice doing this everyday and wanna do it without the wall.
Will keep updating every single day.
Send moral support hehe
Lately I have been feeling like I need to create more space and this practice helped me to drop in so think u Adriene, hope you are safe and healthy much love to you and all my fellow yogis and non yogis stay safe, Namaste Everyone and goodnight ❤
I always hated this pose…it was too painful for me. But today this practice made it really easy and challenging, but i really enjoyed it, thank you❤
Thank you, Adrianne i am a fan and subscriber here in Manila Philippines! Namaste ♀️
I enjoyed this little slow mindful workout just enough for my busy Monday morning. Three more practices of Nurture see you tomorrow on the mat ♀️♀️
Good morning Adriene,
Thank you so much for this gentle reminder. I am ready for the day ahead. ✨
This one only can do when you already have strong arms n crazy warming out for the arms balance.however he’s great.
Wow I actually managed it by the end and I didn’t think I would…a wonderful class kassandra thank you so so much
I am following the July calendar and I was concerned about today’s practice but love the way you take us through step by step making it easy to feel what it should feel like. Went to the wall first and built confidence and then was able to take it away front the wall and I did it! So very proud of myself. Question why is the headstand so good for us?
My biggest struggle is that my hands slip after a while in down dog. It’s so frustrating and I find myself struggling and putting too much pressure in my hands to stay up.
wow, that is a though one for me but I will try again and again, 2020 goal! ( it was my first try today, thank you Adriene for including patience and mindfulness in this practice, makes all the difference) just a quick question, I see a lot of ads on something that can help with the headstand: what are your thoughts on the inversion bench?
Another video that slightly intimidated me, that I ended up thoroughly enjoying! Namaste Adrienne
I hit my 50k word writing goal for this month today and it was all made so much easier and doable by practicing yoga every day. Setting mantras, getting in tune with my brain and body and soul, and commiting time to work every day is life changing. Thank you, Adriene!
I love this practice. Today I really needed this. “Your attitude makes your world” simply amazing. Thank you
Video image is over-exposed (shooting against strong light) which makes it hard to make out which way your hand palms are facing..
Thanks for the video nonetheless <3
Leaving the mat with such a clear mind today. Peaceful warrior should not be underestimatedgood for the body, mind and soul. Channelling my inner warrior all day today. This practise was everything I didn’t know I needed <3
This was SO MUCH HARDER than I thought that it would be, but I LOVED it! It was challenging. It was difficult. But I feel ALIVE. And I feel encouraged, like I will make it all the way up there one day. I CAN do yoga. Yoga is for everyone. Yoga is for ME. ❤
When I am in low lunge position and I try and put my hands flat on the floor, my knee is in my chest and I literally can’t lower my body far enough to get my hands flat on either side of my foot because my knee won’t allow me to get my hands flat. (if that makes sense). I can not place my hands flat onto the ground while in the lunge position. What is the modifications for tall, long legged people?
This was my first ever attempt at doing a headstand and, even against the wall, I could only get one knee up. My arms really need to practice this posture and build strength before I’ll be able to go further and that’s ok! I know that it’s best to keep practicing, and then resting, and then trying again etc. instead of just throwing myself into it. Thank you Adriene for explaining everything you teach us so clearly!
Love you….. Stay safe both of you…… Thank you……….
A new challenge after crow-pose! I’m about halfway through this pose & took help of my bed. That’s really helpful.
Such a beautiful practice! I live for moments like these. Thank you, Adriene!
Done it with empty stomach after all it feels good. Thank u flo! Btw nice soundtrack what’s its name? ✌✌ u guys r my life changers learned many things from u 2
So I decided to give it a try again after reading some of the comments and guess what?!!!! Yes I did it without breaking my neck! LOL i mean yes I fell a few times but I did it! I wasn’t able to straighten my legs but maybe next time! Thank you Adriene!
@breathandflow is there a way to contact you via mail? Thank you.
Yay, I did it! I think! Sometimes I sure wish someone would take a photo so I could see myself…
Thank you so much for the great class!
Thank you so much mister. Would love to see more of your special programs
Thank you Adriene
Day 9 Shift July’20
See you tomorrow ♀️
Namaste
I absolutely loved this! It is just what I needed today. I loved the ending, peaceful thoughts, peaceful words, peaceful heart ❤️ I have become a warrior during this time, sometimes peaceful, sometimes not lol. I will continue to be a warrior until this is done, trying to wake people up while fighting for my family’s future. Thank you Adriene x
Been struggling and wondering about the reason why I simply can’t do something that seems so simple. And it’s really reassuring I’m not the only one. I’m really glad that Adriene created a little practice, explaining reason and what to focus on even way back then!
Day 27 Nurture! What a pleasant practice! I missed some days and coming back is always a reminder that it would be better not to miss. Typically a little more difficult when returning but this one helped me ease back into better.
hi adriene wear did you get your tracksuit it lovely on u happy friday
So, last night when I worked my way through this video, I said to myself, “I can’t do this.” This morning, when I tried again on my own, I said, “I have a short waist and long legs and I can’t do this.” TONIGHT, I DID IT!!!
How sad am I couldn’t get 1 leg up I have been doing yoga for 2 months now and feel I am not making any progress. Honestly is there something wrong shouldn’t I have been able to at least lift a leg?
wondering about position of hips Warrior 1 squared to the front, Warrior 2 open
I was able to a brief headstand in the earlier part of the practice, so I felt encouraged, then towards the end, when Adriene suggested going to a wall, I was adjusting my legs as I was inverted, and I heard a crunchy sound in my neck, and felt some pain and discomfort. I came down immediately and slowly, then went into child’s pose and tried out the “Barton Springs” pose. After the video, I took my heating pad to my upper back and neck, and looked into restorative exercises and recovery suggestions. I wonder if perhaps it’s a better idea to try this for the first time in the company of other (trained) people/yogis than solo at home first? I’ve been practicing with YWA monthly playlists most days since January, so I’m not the newest of newbies, but this crunchy experience was new for me. Guidance and helpful recovery exercise suggestions are welcome!
Sadly, I’m not able to do this pose as I have very tight neck muscles. I appreciated the first stage and welcome the care taken moving towards the pose. I spent the rest of the video observing while doing a little neck hygiene. Thank you Adriene xx Namaste
Thanks for not holding Chaturanga for 1 minute:-) LOL great sequence!
Mummm, think I need to accept my appropriate edge on this one B-)
Thanks brother. Best yoga on YouTube.
Holding poses was great. Gave it a more meditative feel.
Be nice to do one with a one minute chaturanga hold
Hi masster I’m consideret this class are very good i feel so relaxing
Love this video! This is going to help so much as I continue to get stronger! I had no idea how to overcome this challenge, but now I know what to work on to get there.
wow this is already my second practice for today. i love the clarity of your voice and instruction,i can easily follow thru. can you use some music towards the end? i love longer shivasana but im afraid i might fall asleep without your ques:-)
I love this breakdown and I will practice until I can accomplish this position. I have one question. I can transition into downward facing dog but when I try to lift my right leg up and back to transition to a lunge my left quad cramps and I have to come back to downward dog. Am I missing something or do I just need to practice until I can do this? Thank you for this practice it is helping me so much!
Fantastic class, thank you.It was nice having the long savananda.I feel energized and refreshed ready to start my day. Namaste
Peaceful Warrior has been calling me and I answered the call……WHAT A BEAUTIFUL PRACTICE!!! Why I practice? It started out to gain strength and flexibility as I age, but has become much more about nurturing my soul and spirit. Thank you, Adriene and Crew.
This is incredibly helpful!!! I’ve been struggling with this transition ever since I’ve started doing yoga—I can’t wait to see how this helps!!!
I have super long legs, short torso and arms. This is quite the challenge for this newbie! Thanks for the tutorial!
this is crazy I tried this move so many times but ive never done it with Patrick and I got it the first time
