Plant-based meats can help fill this gap. Where animal meat contains no fiber whatsoever, meats made of plants typically add at least some of this nutrient. The Impossible Burger, for example, comes with 3 grams, while Field Roast’s grain-based frankfurters add 6 grams and Morningstar Farms’ Chik’n Strips have 2 grams. In the Wake of Food Shortages, Plant-Based Meats Fill the Gap Plant-based meat is big business these days. Everywhere from your local grocery store to the Burger King drive-thru, you’ve likely noticed an influx of faux beef, chicken, sausages, and other “meats” that grew in the ground, not on a feedlot. In the wake of meatpacking plant closures across the country, fast-food chains, big-box retailers such as Costco and grocery stores like Kroger have started to limit the amount of meat products customers can purchase at one time.
But as customers stroll down the meat aisle, they could soon see an influx of alternatives.More than $16 billion has gone into U.S. plant-based and cell-based meat companies in the past decade, with $13 billion of it in 2017 and 2018, according to two recent reports from The Good Food.Scientists warn that a combination of drought, population growth, overeating and food waste could cause meat shortages in the years ahead.Shortage of protein-producing facilities prompts food companies to stockpile supplies.
The soaring popularity of plant-based meat substitutes has shone a spotlight on a new star ingredient. For food that boasts about being “plant-based”, actual vegetables are suspiciously absent from most ingredient lists. It’s partially a consequence of the trend toward creating products that mimic the texture and mouthfeel of real meat, and partially because processed ingredients are just so much cheaper and shelf stable than high-quality ingredients. In the Wake of Food Shortages, Plant-Based Meats Fill the Gap More people are turning to plant-based meats during COVID-19.
But how healthy are they, really? Here’s a look at their pros and cons.8/2/2018.
There’s no shortage of healthy, tasty, and eco-friendly alternatives to meat these days. As more people begin to understand the benefits a plant-based diet can bring to their lives, big name retailers are running to keep up!Everywhere from Target to Kroger are carrying more and better plant-based alternatives for you and your family to enjoy.Isn’t is crazy how we take so many things for granted? Even with our country in very obvious crisis, many are oblivious to the coming food shortage and the emergency survival situation that is looming on the horizon.. We get up in the morning, open the faucet and water comes rushing out, we get a pot of coffee going, at the flip of a switch, we grab a quick shower with nice bright lights, of.
Plant-based meat currently accounts for just 2 percent of retail packaged meat sales; it also costs considerably more than ground beef. Despite what.“We can’t just pull up in front of a food pantry with a 7,000-gallon tank and say, ‘here you go, get your jugs out and we will fill them.’ But some people don’t understand,” Elbe said.In the Wake of Food Shortages, Plant-Based Meats Fill the Gap More people are turning to plant-based meats during COVID-19.
But how healthy are they, really? Here’s a look at their pros and cons.Global meat substitutes market is projected to grow at a CAGR of 7.9% during the forecast period. Rising consumer awareness on negative health effects, associated with the consumption of meat, is leading to a shift toward a vegan diet.
This is most likely to contribute to the evolution of meat substitutes, globally.Plant-based meat is now worth $800 million, and accounts for two percent of packaged meat sales. Across several categories, plant-based alternatives are growing at a faster pace than animal-sourced.

I am impressed that Cramer says how much he likes the taste of Impossible burgers. He is so bullish on Beyond Meat that saying how tasty their main competitor’s product is, is very honest of him..
Great job guys!!! Way to help save animals and the planet! Can’t wait till you come to the U.S.!
4:30 replaced meat is disgusting. I tried almost every non-meat burger i can find in London and it’s disgusting, does not taste like meat at all. Also taste is not everything, i also need the protein that comes from meat, not alternative meat.
Thank you for talking about farmer subsidies. Sustainability is not only about the environmental impact, its also about being fair with the workers. I live in Uruguay, where our primary source of income comes from livestock(meat, milk, and some leather), although im totally aware of the environmental impact that meat has on the planet, im really worried about my conuntries economical stability, and more importantly, about the future of all the people that work in the industry, which is a large part of the country. Although our methods are nowhere near those described in the video( its almost all extensive, not intensive) as more and more of the people shift towards vegetarian options, the less money the country will receive. I think nowadays the conversation is not focused on the millions of people that work in the industry, specially those in the lower ranks, which sometimes already struggle to sustain themselves. Its important that we raise awareness into this issue, and work together to find a solution and help farmers shift into the new markets and better practices, without compromising their lives.
Clickbait title and clueless support for continued cattle farming.
Most people watching: save the cows! Me: I can eat vegetables with the flavor of meat!?
hahaha top work guys, great to see TH!S is ready making waves!
oooops I mean THIS*
I would prefer a cow farm instead of another toxic fake meat factory that poisons the planet.
Farmers are not interested in more humanely farming practices, they are interested in making money which goes against humanely farming practices. If it is really humane, It’s called a sanctuary not a farm.
I’m not a vegan or anything but I’m all for an alternative. I was raised in a country where I got my milk and my beef from a farm not even an hour away. We got our veggies from that house around the corner and flour from that house near the field and fish from the river down the road. We eat beef for a special occasion. Even though it’s weird but we see the cow run away the field before it becomes our food. I realized as soon as I moved to America that, it’s impossible to have that here without harming the environment. There are too many people who wanted meat. As Bill Burr said, all the things you do and eat is fine….it just there are too many people who are doing the same thing. Always appreciate fewer people demand one source of protein.
So happy animals will not get killed for taste.keep going on.Technology is advancing and we should also advance our ways and depart from animal killing ways to finding alternate and yet ethical ways for food.
I would love to try THIS! I subscribed to your email list and channel. Bring THIS to NEW England please!
Before I even watch the video: it was really hard to find this. I’d seriously consider somehow making your company name searchable.
Mark: I get protein from rice and other stuff
Me: I am Asian, I eat a lot of rice
7:56 no not quite, a study done by several universities, including oxford, has shown that carbon sequestration is very difficult to achieve, quickly reversed, overrated and is seen as no reliable solution.
Besides that, it would need even more land to meet the demand, leading to even more deforestation.
Animal agriculture currently occupies 83% of agricultual land, 76% could be rewilded if we eat plants instead.

Poison… people the powers that be are trying to kills us… wake up… this is worst than the normal burger
…and somewhere in video land, Joaquin Phoenix is wetting himself with joy…
So I went to Burger King and ordered a regular Whopper I have food allergies I’m allergic to soy bean corn and peanuts but I know I can eat a regular Whopper I ate about half of my stale sandwich before I realized it was one of their fake impossible burgers they had given me on accident they got my order mixed up with somebody else’s guess what it’s made out of soy guess what I’m allergic to soy guess where I ended up at that’s right at the hospital I called Burger King on the phone they offered to replace my meal…… How generous of them……and remember this all happened before they started the advertisement for the impossible Burger they actually had this abomination Burger long before they advertised it the burger itself isn’t new just the marketing for it is…… I don’t have medical insurance did they even pay for my emergency room bill nope…..
it’s impossible for a plant based burger to be more environmental friendly as soy production is dependent on industrial agriculture and therefore fossil fuels versus grass fed beef which is a pre industrial model dependent on neither
Go vegan for the earth, animals, human rights, personal health and public health. Go vegan to prevent another pandemic, antibiotic resistant superbugs, and more. We can do it. Plants are delicious. We don’t have to hurt others to thrive. There’s no humane way to kill someone who feels pain and doesn’t want to die. We should be giving subsidies for farmers to transition to plant agriculture, like what Miyokos is doing for dairy farmers. And we should stop giving meat, dairy and eggs subsidies which artificially lower the price and instead give those subsidies to fruit and veg so people can afford healthy food.
nab it dosent have that taste id rather make cows suffer then eat bad burger
There are a couple problems I have with this video. One of which is the “corn fed is bad” mantra. I am an agricultural teacher and this is a highly debated topic in the Ag World.
First of all, corn-fed vs grass-fed is a misleading name for a debate. Of course people want to think about their cows living happy lives on a pasture before ending up on their plate. However, all cows start as grass fed… Okay, they start on milk because they are mammals but it isn’t long and they are on grass. They usually spend 1-1.5 years on grass before the actual difference occurs. “Grass fed” would be more appropriately called “grass finished” as they spend their entire lives on grass. Corn-finished spend the last few months on corn for quick weight gains before they become food. There are positives and negatives to both. However, it’s not that corn-finished steers are shoved in a small, factory-like environment. They still have room to move around. They also still have access to forages, whether this is through hay or silage or having access to some pasture. Cattle need forage in their diet. A common myth is that grass fed is better for the environment because grass-fed releases less methane. This is simply not true. According to the Hudson Institute’s Center for Global Food Issues, pound per pound, corn-finished beef produces 40% less greenhouse gases than grass-finished. They also use significantly less land, so when we’re talking about burning the Amazon (which is a huge issue that we need to talk about but not the point I’m trying to make now) corn finished is using less land.
Also, according to the EPA, ALL of US Agriculture only contributes to 6.4% of US greenhouse gas emission. There were a few other issues with your video but those were the main ones. The beef industry is over-demonized, mostly by animal rights activists who have an agenda. Beef is not as bad as people claim it is.
Imagine how much better a place the world would be if the government would just add bare minimum “humane treatment” laws for livestock. Beef would be more expensive, so people would consume less, and the beef that is consumed would be better for the environment.
I still prefer refried beans on my tacos and burritos, but this stuff is definitely less bad for you than animal protein.
Grass fed cattle take longer to get to slaughter weight and actually produce more methane, and nitrous oxide because of it. Grass fed cattle is not a solution!
“Increased methane emissions of grass-fed cattle are also an unavoidable result of ruminant digestion, as cows fed a natural diet of grass, hay, and other forages produce three times more methane than cows fed corn and grains (the traditional diet on intensive industrial or “factory” farms.)
https://awellfedworld.org/issues/climate-issues/grass-fed-beef/#::text=Increased%20methane%20emissions%20of%20grass%2Dfed%20cattle%20are%20also%20an,or%20%E2%80%9Cfactory%E2%80%9D%20farms.)
Him: this meat is made from plants
Vegetarians: does that mean we can this ( i am an vegetarian and i was like whattttttt at this moment)
SHUT THE FUCK UP AND GET TO THE SUBJECT AT HAND! “PLANT-BASED MEATS”
Such a great video. I’m writing my thesis right now about techn-utopian promises in the automotive world. You’re totally right that we must be wary of ‘quick fixes’ to complex problems.
Its probably the same as, when i started replacing “cow” milk with “almond” milk. Maybe time will change us ♂️ and go from regular meat to this kind of “meat”
This video does show the impacts of ordinary meat very well but I would like to see the impacts of the beyond meat vegan burgers industry too…
I understand the video and what you’re trying to convey, however there’s a lot more to this story that is not being told. You’re only giving one solution to a whole plethora of population issues. The fact that Bill Gates was used makes it even more disturbing. Pushing people to a new food source, creates economic issues in America that might never be overcome. I’m not saying it isn’t a good alternative, I’m saying it not the end all solution to the problem. Fast food has created much of this mess along with the fact that the family farm is a thing of the past.
I don’t think yeast naturally makes heme. So is that a genetically-modified yeast?
I will never eat beef, pork or chicken again:( We should be ashamed of ourselves!
Nobody is saying burgers made from beef alternatives will solve climate change. Of coarse they are only a small part in a bigger fight. But their popularity is a good thing that we should celebrate. I don’t get the negative tone of this video
Dude ur like Luffy from One Piece the anime lol.
(Because u love meat)
Isn’t the meat industry already subsidized to keep the price down? (This may be different now considering the lockdown causing a lot of farmers having issues with their stock.)
He sounds a little like a robot but good interview. I definitely wanna move on to plant-based!
I’ve switched to plant based meats already, cut the cholesterol and better for the planet. I’m excited to try the new Impossible stuff
Having tried this food, its quite good.
But honestly you have to be a complete dickhead to think its meat, It is close and has a similar taste.
Lets be real though the ‘influencers’ only ever have positive things to say and are pretty mindless.
But yes it is a fantastic alternative.
The video’s narrator claims that the products “of the plant based meat world are much less farm-based as they are lab-based.” That implies that the ingredients are more artificial than real plant foods. Impossible uses a small amount of GMO produced heme for flavor, but most of the product they sell is plant based. Beyond does not use GMO’s at all. They used a lab to figure out how to produce their product, but not for the production itself. Here is a link to the part of the video to which I am referring.
https://youtu.be/snMaXpZc_Mg?t=353
Make feeding antibiotics & gains to cows illegal, it would make cafos impossible and would force them to raise animals in healthy environment.
AND HERE YOU GO PEOPLE. Theres no shortage just a libtard agenda and greedy CEOs.
I enjoy the innovation of wanting to make money from those who chose not to eat animal products any longer. I just truly hope they themselves eat what they are creating. I surely do!
I can’t take this serious the guy is rhyming and read his script like a its children movies but then makes his voice sound depressed.
Whats to say climate change isn’t real? I just watched a video from coffee break talking about how 90% of studies go unchecked and not investigated. Isn’t science supposed to be repeatable?
If you leave a glass of water and ice on a table and leave there for a hour or 2. The ice would melt but the water level will still stay the same. Common now tell me a tabletop scientific experiment that proves climate change is real.
How am I expected to beleave someone who tells me in the same sentence that the earth will have droughts and more hurricanes at the same time.
Let’s talk fact now the California government stop funding the parks department the people who prevent forest fires. The government is blaming the power company for the fires. We all have seen power lines, there is always no trees around them. Or we have seen the people cutting down tree branches that grow to close to the power line. These are the people California stopped paying and now the trees grew too tall and got to close to high voltage power lines.
Climate change is not real the people who believe in it want us to live in concrete tubes and eat bugs, while they live like normal people. Why even bother writing anything this is like a religion to these awful people. They can only say ” 90% of scientist beleave in global warming”. They can only tell you they believe in something they can’t test or see because someone else believes it.
Are you people kidding me right now!!!!! Too damn greedy!! Always looking for a novel idea. DAVID FREAKIN LEE.. WHERE ⁉️ ARE THE BODIES FROM THIS PANDEMIC. NOW THEY HAVE ENOUGH IMPOSSIBLE MEAT TO COVER HOW MANY? WHEN IF WE WERE ALL ON SHUTDOWN!!!! SOYLENT GREEN PEOPLE WAKE UP!!!!!!‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️
The beyond meat burgers are soooo good with lots of fresh lettuce and heavy sauces like mayo, mustard, ketchup and onions. YUM!
Hmmm, GMO? I like impossible too but did not know about the GMO part… i think ill stick with beyond for now also they aren’t public yet:(
you forgot to mention the suffering and murder of millions of animals in you little statistical video
“No meat lover loves the fact that it comes from an animal cadaver.” I’m gonna stop you right there. Because I do, I’m sure a lot of people do as well. It’s primal, but its still there.
So the secret ingredient is pomegranate juice…. mmmmmmmmm.
So many people are full of crap…ive saw the shelves during covid scare.. All your fake meat stayed on the shelves why real meat was gone gone gone. Nobody wants your GMO meat in the state of emergency. Smh.
Scamdemic helps avowed eugenicists move forward on multiple fronts
I am big meat (especially BBQ) eater and maker and I gave plant based burgers a try, and all of them were garbage. None can trick me eating “ meat” because most people can tell difference
You did not talk about FBS Fetal Bovine Serum.. Its disgusting and used for all kind of sources. E.g. Lab Meat.. So yes its better then Meat but still disgusting
Why compare an animal burger with a lab-based burger as the only options? Why not a vegetable-based or a bean-based burger? No lab or feedlot required and no independent studies needed to determine if they are sustainable. It’s called a veggie burger and they’ve been around quite a while. A lot cheaper too.
Also, keep the name. It’s easy to remember and will do well in the USA.
I’m a vegetarian so I’ve eaten a lot of these in my life and they’re so good
Bill: when people get richer, they tend to eat more meat.
Also bill: second richest person in the world
Switching to plant based alternative doesn’t mean anything if we still overconsume..
Our changing climate: explains what cafo means
Animals as leaders fan: WTF? Cafo is not just a random word that sounds cool? FAKE!!
The lady just ignores him saying he’s gonna make a meatless burger with his own blood
As an organic vegetable farmer I can appreciate this video. To all my vegan friends I love your enthusiasm for a more vegetable based diet! However I must inform you that almost all organic fertilizers are animal based. Of course you can get fish or kelp, but those both have equally high environmental impacts. This means you can either buy petroleum aka synthetic fertilizers or organic ones that are by products of the meat industry I.e bone, feather, blood meals. Sure you can use compost to hold those nutrients longer (which I do) but every vegetable out needs to be replaced with nutrients in.
I love impossible burger but it is sooooo expensive! Why it is more or same price as the beef burger?
Very shallow discussion. He did not even mention foetal bovine serum (FBS), “a mixture harvested from the blood of foetuses excised from pregnant cows slaughtered in the dairy or meat industries.” Which is essential for this industry and it affects some moral advantages of the plant-based meats for a lot of folks.
You lot are bots, you should wake up to what’s really going on.
Sounds gross…What only the rich will be allowed meat in future….
This is probably what caused the coronavirus lmao glad I never ate it
& here I thought the supply chain was broken. Throw away the real food to give us fake food. Hmmm seems like a set up! I wouldn’t trust it guys
Love your channel. It’s inspired me to seek a career toward saving the planet.
Bill gates is not the richest man in the world he not even come close
i dont care what people say or make up, but im NEVER stop eating meat
Not everybody can eat your plant-based meals….. Some of us have food allergies I’m allergic to peanuts soybean and corn and anything that is processed made of or contains peanuts soybean and corn……
I dont believe it.. who’s to say that’s not human meat or dog etc etc etc
Impossible burgers or beyond meats has a lot of chemicals and oils that have been known to cause cancers such as liver cancer, kidney cancer, stomach cancer, rectal cancer, long term consumption of these products will indeed kill you but it’s a double edged sword it’s good for the environment but bad for the human body.
Make all major cattle farms go underground and capture the methane for energy use halfway problem solved
if we accept this, we sign our check for extinction. boycott this. do not buy it!
Good on the surface.
But what sense is there to leave decarbonization (in every aspect of our lives) to private enterprises?
National and federal bodies should be spearheading this et all.
NOTHING IS BETTER THAN REAL MEAT, unless you are into eating processed garbage.
I tried one of those fake news BK burgers. It was okay but tbh I go to BKs precisely to eat beef burgers. The novelty of it was cool but I’m sticking to whoppers.
You should have used clips of cows in factory farms WHAT ITS REALLY LIKE
I’ve been veggie 28 years and the bacon blew me away. I can’t remember what actual bacon tastes like but I loved this taste and it was chewier than any meat substitute I’ve had before. The look of it freaked me out at first as it looked way more than bacon than similar products. I liked the taste and the meat eaters in my family said it tasted like a smoked bacon and they liked it.
Oh my lord, I’m eating a burger right now, I’m serious.
And it’s a veggie burger.
Edit: yes, I am a vegan. I think this is cool, and interesting. It saves animals lives.:)
“Every mammal, bird, reptile and amphibian” this is misleading, mammals here does not include humans.
Let this lady eat fake food for couple years first so we can see what happens to her…
The only thing I don’t like about this is that it cost alot more than regular meat
If your vegetarian or vegan, why would you want anything that even resembles meat. Fake or not. You made your dicision not to eat meat so deal with it
Why did “open market” and “soy production” even have to be mentioned? 90% of the worlds soy is fed to livestock, lmao.
I hear Impossible tastes better than Beyond Meat, but now I see why Beyond Meat is dominating…. Impossible’s CEO can’t even get high-speed internet.
The goal should always be whole food plant based. For human health and the planet. Companies like beyond meat and impossible burgers are great as a treat meal or for people transitioning to a healthier plant based diet from an animal based one. Overall, individuals need to take a look at other aspects like their plastic/packaging use and consumption into clothing etc. once people decide to change, we can support companies who share these values and the demand for ethical and sustainable companies will cause their existence to increase over time.
I don’t know who eats a burger everyday of the week, I’ll just stick to my beans and tofu unless it’s the weekend or a special occasion.
I’d also like to add that some people, who can’t eat many veggies due to allergies, need meat and animal products so realistically you can’t eradicate it from people’s diets. That’s why I do also think that sustainable, smaller scale animal husbandry is needed. Even if I can eat veggies with no problems you have people like my mother who gets more allergic as time goes on or people like my brother who is sensitive to fiber and can’t eat too much of it or end up in the hospital.
I was all for it till I met the owner my God he sounds like an environmental nut job.
As Jim Gaffigan says, why do
Vegetarians always crush vegetables up and shape & attempt to flavor them like burgers or bacon?
https://youtu.be/RqFi0cZ4p1E
Do Vegans secretly miss Meat?
What if it had Bacon on it?
It would have a better flavor profile obviously, and it would be 85% less meat than a Burger with Bacon on it.
How about the cost of each burger and how much we need to work to earn that money? I’m not against it, I just wanted to include that topic into the discussion. In my country (Uruguay) 4 beyond meat burgers cost $15 while 4 regular burgers cost $2.
Burgers aren’t supposed to be healthy. I’m not a vegan, or even a vegetarian, but people chose that for many reasons. Ethics, Religion, Culture, Environment (animal agriculture is a HUGE factor in climate change)
You’ve convinced me. To go and get a 24 oz. Steak, might go pork for dinner
There is meat which is being create in a lab that doesn’t use vegetables. It has the science down and all it needs is to be tested to see if it can be cheaper to mass produce, which is less of a how and more of a when.
BILL GATES = PLANNED PARENTHOOD = ABORTION = FETAL TISSUE = VACCINE = BILL GATES… It all comes back around to evil Gates
top 10 things that could cause vegans to become meat eaters.
he says that bill gates is the richest man in the world but that’s actually jeff bezos
if we are solar powered why dont we photosynthesise???
or eat the sun
All good soy boys eat their daily serving of estrogen! 18 million times more than beef. Want to be a man? That isn’t food.
I for one will never eat this disgusting lab created crap! There’s no real veggies in this stuff and its worse for the environment! Give me a good venison steak!
Nah man eating plants is too inefficient, we gotta go straight to the source. Time to eat the sun
mark casually cooks food in bill’s kitchen and has lunch with him
Him: throw this puppy on the grill
All vegetarians including me: WHY DUDE JUST WHY what did that little puppy do to you * intense screaming/ shouting there life out!!!!!!!
The IMPOSSIBLE BURGER is made with so mutch geneticly modified soy that it has ten times more estrogen than recommended (per day). You say that meet is bad, think about all of that frankenfood that you treehugers consume. Find God and get yourself some KFC!
top down enforced veganism is the only solution to climate change.
Wow it took a whole 4:47 minutes for this video to get to the point
This video forgot to mention that animal cruelty is also being avoided by choosing to consume plant based meat alternatives.
Oy. You ever read into how these animals are treated? Really messed up….
We desperately need to decrease population! I really don’t understand why this isn’t being emphasized globally to an extreme degree. Humans are so stupid. A nasty, incurable epidemic may be just the ticket to clear out a good number of us idiots. But we probably still wouldn’t learn and would be stupid enough to re-populate. Ugh. https://www.sciencepagenews.com/2020/01/07/will-our-greed-and-stupidity-lead-us-to-our-inevitable-end/
Great stuff. Appreciate all your videos. One question I think needs to be asked, in all seriousness, is what do we do with all the cows we currently have? If not for meat/dairy, what do we do with the 95 million head we have currently? Cant let them go and nobody will take care of them for free.
I like how even though bill is super Rich he doesn’t act snobby and superior, he just acts like a cool grandpa, or like a cool, wise, old guy.
it’s not the content of proteins, it’s the body’s ability to absorb those nutrients. Meat protein is better absorbed by our bodies despite it may having low protein content than a few plant based.
Bill Gates, the richest man in the world
Jeff Bezoz left the chat
8:32 ahh when you didn’t need to where a mask every where. We all miss it
I had one
Not even close to the worst beef burger i ever eat ( Abracadabra in Ireland )
If you are vegeterian than why you still want to taste the meat???
OMGoodness! How long do I have to wait to get the chance to try THIS? <3 Absolute legends! <333333333333
heyyyy lets ferment the soy over 6 month to make it healthier… GREEDY MAN says NO! MONEY!!!!!!
One of dumbest ideas in recent years. I would happily eat vegetarian dishes if only they had no names like ‘vegan chicken wings’ What does it really imply? the chicken was a vegan of it is just chick peas minced with seaweed. Promote tasty dishes, do not mimic meat. It sounds like a gay marriage. Please, come up with something new and better.
I dare you to make a gun that can destroy everything you shoot
Did he think about overpopulation animal’s will take over and humans will not be remembered because if animals dont remember us well we wont be a thing
As a meat eater I have never claimed not to like vegan foods. I just happen to like real meat as well. It’s possible to like both of them.
GMO? I rather have Kramer fix me up a meal and worry about getting his spit on it
Get rid of the elderly leaves these politicians more money for SSI in which they didn’t want to pay.
F1 cars are much easier to drive than Indycars so I would say Scott Dixon instead of Lewis Hamilton
Mean costs quite cheap in comparison to meat substitute that actually at least approaches the texture, taste, smell and sound of it. Don’t get me wrong they both cost a lot actually
Youtube made an AI documentary where a company called Not Co. made plant-based meat out of chemical compositions produced by AI based on what makes up a meat taste like meat. I think it is also good. If you think the sustainability is questionable, at least, we get off from the more harmful way of hurting our planet. While we look for better options. We will eventually get there as more research is done.
Honestly, we should just accelerate our technology so fast to the point where geoengineering would be possible. Climate change is too late to be reversed anyways
I bought the bacon and chicken from Holland and Barrett yesterday. I could not wait to try them. I made a bacon sandwich this morning and incorporated the chicken into a pasta dish for dinner. They were both amazing, the bacon is the best plant based bacon on the market in my opinion and the chicken is just amazing. I need to buy more, what a great job you did bringing these two wonderful products to market. I have been telling everyone about them. Are you on twitter as well?
This one was quite a journey! I’ve been super busy filming and planning stuff. Got another vid comin in hot in about 2 weeks that’s a real banger. Insta/Twitter/[email protected]
Taste-wise, there’s no contest between Impossible and Beyond. Only the former lives up to the hype. But you can’t get the true experience at Burger King, etc.-you need a real burger joint that also uses Impossible.
Ingredients wise, this stuff isn’t healthier than cow meat. Ethics wise, it is. This company is after profit, not to cure world cancer lol make no mistake.
To avoid any of this would be to buy locally like the old world used to do.
Highly bias fake report just to attack meat. Why not just eat veg? Eating fake meat that’s WITHOUT SOUL is a very scary thing
There are two things that scare of what you mentioned: the huge amounts of gas liberated by cattle, and the lots of antibiotics they are giving to the animals. They are practically raising super bacteria.
it’s definitely sustainable for big pharma, all that GMO soy will result in billions of medical bills. Good luck with highest levels of oestrogen you’ve ever seen, I’m sure it’s worth killing your gut biome in order to be morally superior due to “I don’t harm animals” I really hope all your clothes are made of hemp because if they’re not you’re using slave made clothes, in a country made by slaves, fucked up by corporations, but I’m sure you can fix 100+ years of crude oil pollution with your vegan burgers which satiate your both nutritionally and volumetrically equally well as eating antibiotic fed mcdonalds burgers. Open your eyes and see the bigger picture, sustainable farming is the way, Joel Salatin is proof of that, his practices regenerate land and make it fertile again allowing us to grow actual food instead of soy, corn, wheat and the trash you’re making. Good luck processing this in your indoctrinated brain, oh wait you probably call it enlightenment due to veganism, I call it vitamin D and B12 deficiency.
Burger is a indulgence, a treat anyway, so I am all for it if impossible burger/beyond meat is way better for the environment. It uses 99% less water, 93% less land, think about that!
Mark: feeds bill gates some pizza rolls
Everyone watching this: this information is on a need to know basis
Bill gates is actually a good person and i can relate quite alot but also im not the richest man
Wait a second it’s made with blood and fat, how can vegans ignore this. It is basically meat, but less healthy
Loved this, and very proud to be your first vegan YouTube reviewer.
She didn’t say where the hemoglobins came from? Is it animal blood?
Had the “chicken” burrito from Barburrito recently and it was brilliant. Had to ask my flatmate to check if they’d given me the wrong one.
Where is the part about all the estrogen in it? Because it’s in it. Estrogen and a lot of it.
Please could you link this product? I don’t eat red meat and really miss burgers.
Up until 2018, I had never tried a hamburger or any other meat. My friend gave me an impossible burger and a real burger and I couldn’t tell the difference. I Wonder if lifetime meat-eaters can tell the difference.
I hope they know how stupid they sound trying to reinvent the wheel and fire…Food that we have been eating since the beginning of time is what we need…Not someone who thinks because they have money that they can push their own agenda onto rest of us.
if you eating real meat, don’t care about that animal’s sufferings U R A monster.
So, we’re saying that lying to people to trick them into eating things, as long as they’re delicious, is okay? Is this what I’m to understand? Is this the door we’re opening? Consider that carefully. You’re damn lucky none of them was allergic to your substitutes.
BTW, veganism saves no animals. If the entire world was vegan, there would not be fields of chickens and cows roaming free. They would be extinct. They’ve been bred by humans through artificial selection, just as dogs were bred from wild canines, and bananas, watermelon and tomatoes bred from wild, unappealing counterparts. Uneaten animals are not set free. If demand drops, breeding/production drops. You can’t “save” an animal that never existed. That’s like “saving” a car by not buying it.
bill gates is actually the second richest man in the world but the first richest man in the world is the founder of amazon
You lost me when you started sounding like the looney left talking about climate change and destructive Cows.
Even if we could produce CO2 negative meat, we would still be left with the ethics of treating animals as commodities. The movie Okja focuses on a super low environmental impact super pig. Seems great until you realize that raising and killing animals for food is still cruel and is unnecessary for many people.
Just learned about your company today via Plant Based News and I’m very proud and excited for you guys! I’m based in America, so I know it might be a while before you start selling your products here, but I’m in great anticipation! Much Love ❤❤❤
I prefer a man with boobs that don’t require a bra, and the ability to grow body hair… Meat!!
“is this burger healthier for you than a hamburger” Well im a physician, bla bla bla for 3mins, that doesn’t answer the question, how about yes or no… obviously it’s not… if you gotta twist your words like that… 10:01 was REALLY CRINGEY….. Thanos is working on the power to snap his fingers…. “oh man”… this man was thinking you’re a nut, lmao
the main problem is the industrial mass production of meat worldwide…..meat should be only organic grassfed and expensive in price
If you vegan and eat fake meat it just pretty hypocrite… if u want to taste real meat just eat a real one
My family has been getting our meat from Polyface for the last several years for these exact reasons. We have a big ol’ chest freezer in the basement and, yeah, it’s a larger cost in that moment when we pick it up, but we get like 4 months worth of beef and chicken and in the long run it costs us less than getting things more regularly from the grocery store.
If you can afford to do this, I highly recommend it.
You say it’s not a silver bullet, but you never really expand as to exactly why it’s not. Unless I missed it somehow?
I’m never giving up my steak sorry not sorry. And if you’re concerned about how your cows are raised just buy grass feed.
I’d like to have it, but where can you buy it and how much does it cost.
“animals are an inefficient middle man”
Humans are animals too right?
K bye guys
bye
imma just remove myself
Listened until 8:00. For fuck’s sake just eat plants and leave the animals alone
Why would you continue to slaughter animals when you don’t even NEED to eat them to live? So continue waste our time and efforts to employ an inhumane way to raise livestock, when we could all just give up meat and dairy? I listened to one woman tell me she couldn’t go vegan to lose weight, but she was willing to allow a doctor to cut her open to put a balloon into her stomach so she would get sick anytime she ate too much so that she could lose weight. This reminds me of that. Definitely not always the case, but sometimes the solution is quick and easy. Ditch meat. Ditch dairy. Cows are friends, not food.
I’m not convinced I still wanna see a nice juicy bloody steak
An impossible burger. What could an old man wish for in a senior’s home. Even a vegan sausage would make my day. While they can be such dum and illeterate bums as to foster a culture of death in these places, stuff you up with meat and dairy so they can saturate you with the laxative they mix in with the food and drink to fill a diaper ( I do need one ) annoy and make you sick until the only thing you wish for is death. Really dum. I will remain vegan, thank you.
It doesn’t matter if it’s healthy or not People eat burgers and they ain’t healthy but they don’t care?
Also I tried one of the impossible burgers and it taste so much like a burger is delicious
I look forward to trying this, but I have not seen it in any shop so far.
Wake up ppls it’s all on purpose theirs stupid scamdemic is a cover the elites created it and now they’re using it to bring down the economy and the markets, haven’t any of u seen the reports on social media from doctors and nurses stating that they are being pressured by their superiors to bluster covid numbers, many if not most of the ppl who have died were not even covid the hospitals are getting payouts guys for every patiant who is labelled covid they get 12k and for every patiant they vent they get 39k this is why the huge demand on flipping ventilators ppl is a money grab for the hospitals all we need is more and more doctors and nurses like the braves ones who have already done so to grow a pair and start speaking out about these blatant lies, I do not for the life of me know how they can know it’s a massive lies and not speak out my conscience wouldn’t let me, ppl are being murdered in hospitals deliberately especially minority group members, seriously wake up folks stop listening to the screeching lame stream media monster and start thinking for ur selves and do some damn research urselves, don’t be a NWO bound sheeple cos if u remain in that line of thinking that the useless mainstream media is right all the time then the grubby elites have got u under their thumbs COD they own all the lame stream media outlets lock stock and barrel, seriously guys u all need to wake up and help the rest of us who already have put and end to this before it’s too late
Impossible food is mentioned in Planned Parenthood gee i wonder…..
Hey guys, I have been watching this channel for a while and have learned so much! It has (amongst other channels) inspired me to start my own and it’s all about sustainability. If you want to check it out, I’d be so so grateful! I also do upcycling and dance occasionally ♻✂
cant any “poop” be recycled into bio-gas for sustainable green energy?
Grass fed meat is actually worse for climate change per pound of beef, since it takes more time for cattle to get to slaughter weight eating grass than by eating corn and soy. While they get to slaughter weight, they are producing methane.
If anyone doubts the claims of the company that makes the “Impossible burger,” or the “Beyond Meat burger” just check out the conclusion of the expert panel of the United Nations. They clearly declared that the human race needs to move to a plant based diet to stem climate change.
When I saw the title of this video I honestly thought you were going to try to kill bill gates
Most YouTubers: funny and weird content
Mark Rober: super interesting, amazing, world changing and also understanding content
As a southerner, I can say that I LOVE a good barbecue, and I’m looking forward to eating plant based barbecue
A study sponsored by the product being tested? Really? You don’t suppose there’d be…I dunno…some serious bias in the research, do you?
You don’t need to use soy, and especially because soy is a horrible ingredient, it is unhealthy, especially for men’s prostate health.
There is no way to sustainably eat as much meat as we eat now, I don’t care what fancy rotational grazing method you have, there is simply no way. We can reduce meat consumption and on SOME land that is naturally grassland, we can raise livestock more sustainably. It’s a lie to think we can continue like this..
I just had a beyond meat burger and I didn’t notice it at all
If we just consumed less meat, that right their would lessen the demand. I personally still eat shrimp and chicken, but only a couple times a month. I don’t like tofu and I really don’t like imitation meats, but this seems really good for like tacos.
I would bet money that most any person would not be able to eat a beef burger after seeing the process in which they are made. The fact that this guy was hungry after touring the facility is one of the biggest differences between the two. Aligning your morals with your eating habits is becoming more and more common and a very welcome change in my opinion.
Impossible and Beyond burgers are disgusting. Impossible tastes like a microwaved slider from the dollar store and Beyond smells like cat food and tastes how I’d imagine cat food to taste.
since the meat producers are being forced to dump their meat without it going to the store, it is a supply chain problem not the meat producers who failed. Mighty convenient that the disgusting and not properly absorbed by the body “replacement” to meat has been heavily promoted before the fake shutdown of the supply chain.
getting it to the stores should be just as difficult as it is for the ranchers…but, that wasn’t the programmed situation, was it?
Mark Rober: I only post 12 videos a year
Also Mark: sQUirrEls ObsTiclE CoURsE
Wouldn’t this “meat” offend the meatarian people, you know, the people who only eat meat, not vegetable?
Had my first one today. It was a revelation. This is the real deal, people.
Eat this crap and face the consequences gates heavily invested on this trash
Why does this sound like a mr beast vid
Not saying yours isn’t good or anything just sounds like a mr Beast title.
Another option for those who have no food allergies is replacing meat/plant-based meats with beans, seitan, and yes, tofu. Instead of growing soy for animal feed (and yes, biofuels/plastics,) it’s also great to sell
I’m fortunate enough to be able to make these at home with products that are cheap. While tofu and seitan can be time consuming to make or find (especially in food deserts-they are costly if you don’t know where to buy). But you can find beans even at the Dollar General, and they are cheap, easy to cook, and better than either meat or fake meat.
They’re also good for you. Easy protein, diverse flavors!
Human activity has nothing to do with climate change. Please STFU!!!
Believe it or not, there are legions of farmers out there who are raising beef in more traditional manners (i.e., not in feed lots) that positively support the environments in which the cattle are raised. This is NOT a new thing. Corporate interests are what have adulterated U.S. beef supply production. I’ve seen the disgust of feedlots firsthand. The practises there are abominable. Those are not farmers. Farmers know better. Supporting the products they produce, rather than buying the mass marketed slop found in grocery store chains is one way we can encourage better systems going forward. U.S. consumers must take charge to effect change.
I’m not sure if it’s better or not. It’s better for the cows! And possibly for the human body. But the methane the cows produce cause the global climate change we’re experiencing today. The greenhouse gases are mainly from Carbon Dioxide and Methane. With more cows, comes more methane. With more methane, comes more greenhouse gases. And with that, comes more of a drastic change in our world. A bad change.
I love animals— and I’m not a pacifist because I eat a lot. Of meat. I would, of course, prefer to keep them alive. But maybe it’s preferable to let the earth thrive more than the things living inside of it. I feel awful saying that, but with no world, there are no animals.
—there are obviously so many positives to this switch off. And I’m all for it! I would love to eat plants instead of meat. The food production is going to be so much higher if we eat plants instead of meat. And you’re right, we’ll be able to feed so many more people that don’t have food at all!! So I’m leaning more toward the plants into meat because it saves the animals and more people— even though it sacrifices the earth.
Well shoot. I wrote this to say how I felt. I’m now at the end of the video and realized that I made a cruddier explanation of what you said throughout the video. Shoot.
Why is it necessary to make fake meat? What’s the problem with just eating vegetables and other plants like millions in India and elsewhere have done for millennia?
I think you’re ignoring the fact that a lot of us aren’t vegan just for climate change. We’re vegan to end animal suffering as well.
Staged lol, I’ve tried “This” food products, you would have to be a complete fool to not be able to tell it’s not meat.
Have you ever tasted an Impossible Burger or Beyond Burger? What’d you think of it?
Executive chef by trade. It’s good, but it’s certainly not meat. The closest reproduction I have tasted to date, but worth the added cost? In my opinion, no. Plus you have to keep in mind this really only capable of “replicating” ground beef. There are just so many other cuts that offer so many other flavor and texture profiles. It’s certainly a fantastic option if you’re a vegan/vegetarian who is craving a burger in regards to flavor. There does seem to be mounting evidence pointing to this being a less healthy version of protein however.
I think we should find some way to turn the manure into fuel that does not make emissions. Vegans have the right goal but are not really helping. Humans evolved to eat meat and the future generations will be dependent on plants if everyone is vegan. Cooked meat is the reason humans evolved higher intelligence. However, factory farms I do not approve of. It should be able to contain the waste and its byproducts. If the cows have good lives, they will still die. Cows in farms should enjoy their lives before death, even if killed when it is time to harvest.
Time to trick vegans into being men and women and eating MEAT✊
What kinda.. hemoglobin in the world… hellll nah.. who’s blood is that????
i think people should continue eating meat. meat is always been a part of our food system and its good protein and good for us. a meat alternative is good for the animals, but meat is gud. (yall vegans dont argue with me cause its just gonna be months of fighting over kIlLiNG aMNImaLS iS bAD.
Government should promote and provide subsidies to whoever promotes veggie food.
Cool concept, but they’re quite a bit more than a standard beef patty, so I’m gonna stick with those thank you very much
I have no problem whatsoever with facing the fact that I like every other creature on earth has to sacrifice life to sustain my own, that’s how the world works, dumbass
I’d love a video on the lab grown meat, made from some collected cells. In a few weeks you can have some meat that biologically belongs to a cow that is still walking around. It’s wild. If we had way fewer cows and did some cell collections, then we could afford to treat them far better and stop feeding them food they’re not equipped to break down. So it would cause even less methane than the reductions in overall numbers of cows would be responsible for.
I know some people will still be upset, but… I feel like there will be people who want “real” meat until there’s a perfect substitute. This way the cows are fewer in number, treated well, and not killed for their meat. It looks like about as good as it’s possible to get. Perhaps in time we could use collected cells to be like… mother strains, so we don’t even have to collect from actual cows anymore. Like a yeast starter! I just wonder what those numbers would look like.
Still not as tasty as real beef. And is not near as healthy as real meat.
Wait, a fellow Nate is going on a plant based diet? I must follow in his steps and do the same!
I hope he knows it take more energy to produce impossible burger than producing cow. And the cow is not invasive cows and plants work in harmony. With out cow you wont get the rich fertilize that is need to grow you plants. And all meat lovers love to eat meat from dead animals because eatting live animals would be cruel.
once again the world being totally screwed by big corporations, although beyond meat is pretty awesome:)
The word “meat” should not be anywhere near this disgusting mess, try vegetable shaped to look like a beef burger, remember when chocolate flavoured products had to change their name because… yano… IT WASN’T CHOCOLATE. Same applies here with something that looks like meat but has zero meat content.
This dude walks like the jocks are still pulling his underwear over his head.
My takeaway: 8:29 A market-based solution will never single-handedly solve a market created problem.
Plant base dairy. Facepalm!!! Soy milk or almond milk isn’t dairy even if cow is green. Check allergy list if you doubt. Plant base is plant base. SMH
I usually really love your videos, but many of the clips you inserted were of dairy cows, not beef (beef cattle are rarely in a barn, clips of cattle in headlocks are dairy. Also some of them shown were quite obviously Holsteins, the most common dairy breed which are not bred for carcass size or quality, instead for milk production). Also I was surprised you didn’t go further in depth of feedlots. Yes, they are fed corn, but they’re fed the entire corn plant. They get all the nutrients they need off of it and their stomach can easily digest corn because they are herbivores. Also they are only in the feedlots for a month maximum, so growing up they are on pasture. It’s also a misconception that cattle are fed antibiotics. They are only given antibiotics to control sickness/disease. Research that has been done has found that there are no traces of antibiotics in the actual meat. I’m not saying slaughter it ethical, I just believe both sides should be represented fairly in an argument.
My man really just made Bill Gates a meat free burger
So casually
Stop eating meat to protect the climate… But we still pour gallons of toxic chemicals onto the plants that we put in our “meat” which kills the ecosystem in the ground that the plants grow on. They get nutrients from oil byproducts instead of organic materials breaking down. Keep eating and farming like this and no crops will grow in 50 years. Then what will you make your “burgers” out of?
how come at 3:00 you chose to highlight that instead of the part about farm animals producing 3-20 times the amount of waste as the human population in the US
Growing plants as done by conventional systems is the most destructive activity human does against nature. It destroys biodiversity in so many ways that it is the main cause of the actual 6th mass extinction. Diminishing industrial animal exploitation is great, but if it is done by replacing it by more conventional agriculture it is a dead end. This solution has to come with ecological agriculture, like permaculture, agro forestry or it will change nothing about the actual speed of biodiversity’s destruction.
There’s also a shortage of fresh produce to harvest you know? Guess what the raw ingredients for your fake meat will now be in more demand because of the lack of fresh produce. Therefore inflation on necessities to make the stuff will rise. Your stuff was expensive before the employment crisis, do you expect themselves to dole out impossible meats now in the food lines? I guess maybe when the expiration dates hit.
I find it ironic how the virus has hit the elderly and the food industry the hardest and that opens the gates for forcing this “FAKE ” meat on consumers…the problems didn’t happen with farmer’s, but big corporations making a mess out of the food distribution, and now handed this junk as a option… bigger thing’s at play here at the farmer’s and population’s expense!
