Yasso 800’s | How To Predict Your Marathon Finish Time
Video taken from the channel: Dusty Spiller Triathlon
The average marathon runner finishes the race in about 4.5 hours 9 while the typical walker takes 6.5 to eight hours to finish. That is a long time to be out in the elements exerting yourself. Blisters and chafing, sunburn, and heat illness are common hazards. Muscle strains and sprains are more likely due to fatigue during the race.
10 .Look to the Crowds. “Marathon boredom usually happens when your body and mind are equally exhausted,” says three-time Olympian Deena Kasto.Aid stations in a marathon are often every 5K or every 2 miles, so there are about 8 to 12 stops. If you stop for 10 seconds at each station, you’ll add about 1 to 2 minutes to your time.
I’ve never run a marathon, so I can’t write from personal experience, but it seems like a marathon is very, very difficult but accessible to most people who want to run one. A marathon is a 26 mile, 385 yard race run by over half a million people each year. However, to locate the finish line in front of the royal family’s viewing box, an extra 385 yards was added inside the stadium. Hence the marathon tradition of yelling “God save the Queen” in the.
Camille often says that life is what happens when making other plans, so when she signed up for a Singapore marathon down the road, she followed a disciplined plan. After investing entry fees, training time and her ego in a respectable finish, she awoke on the big day feeling sick as a dog. But, there’s a quick fix to the marathon fade. It’s called the Marathon Move, and you can incorporate it into your training plan over the last few weeks before your race so you can finally master the last few miles.
Marathon Move Step #1. Calculate how long it should take you to run the last 4 miles of your marathon based on your goal pace.Marathons are NOT competitions for 99% of us; the battle is with yourself to finish.
If you do this, the marathons, and your training, will be much more difficult and painful. 2. Rely on others to help you train. The marathon may have ancient roots, but the foot race’s official length of 26.2 miles wasn’t established until the 20th century.
The first organized marathon.come to them, and so the runners had to go even farther!) Anyway, after 16 years of extremely heated discussion, this 26.2 mile distance was established at the 1924 Olympics in Paris, France as the official marathon distance. And that is why the marathon is called the marathon, and why it is 26.2 miles in length. A Couple More Interesting Tidbits.
Failing to hydrate and fuel properly is the absolute worst thing you can do, especially at the marathon distance. It is one thing to pass up fluid stations in a 5K. You can get away with that.As you probably know, the body doesn’t have enough glycogen in the muscles and liver to finish a marathon, so the body has to utilize part of its fat stores to finish the race.
This means everyone running the marathon has to figure out the best way to both get to the line fit and have a body that can utilize fat (aka lipids) in the final 10k of the race.So the finish still seems far, far away. I usually count up to 25 (the miles I have run until I reached this hill), and try to be on top by the time I finish counting.
The water stop on top of.Read on for the seven things I wish I had known before I started half-marathon training so you can run strong and finish with a (sweaty) smile on your face. 1. Train on Race Terrain.
Pacing was bang on though for the first 21 miles so I was happy with that. All of this is to say that the marathon is just freaking difficult. My body hurt WAY more after this marathon than for my 4:47 trail marathon. It’s not even close.
The nutrition is hard to dial in, running a marathon pace for near 4 hours is difficult it just goes on.

Very nice video and Norway is magnifecent. Hope to be able to run once a 50 K there as well
Why are you performing a tempo run the day before a key focus long run with a Marathon Goal Pace execution? Seems like it could effect the quality of that key long run workout.
Wow did I do a ultra marathon in my game I must be the best in the world
Why can’t you just use miles like everybody who matters on the planet?
I saw a group of cows walking upside down once, but yeah I guess the scenery was nice
Looking fit James, well done, how much weight have you lost?
Nice video:) I ran my first trail marathon in Germany few weeks ago, I smoked weed the night before, it was raining the whole day, I was soaking wet and I didn’t think about taking water and food, I thought aid stations would be enough… Well I won’t lie, it was hard, but it was also one of the best experiences of my life haha! Looking forward to take part at a 60 to 80k race next year:)
Ultra marathons are so bad for you. No idea why ppl do them. Especially now that it’s so popular someone saying they did a marathon is like saying saying you road a a hover board or something or do cross fit. No one really cares. Plus you produce so much free radical damage you arnt strengthening your body you are just tearing it apart. But well…have fun I guess.
What happens to your body during an ultramarathon?
For me? Probably death lol
At least ur not heavy, I jog and is weigh 250lbs and have join pains
And motivation from my movies 😉

This is suicide squad. You wanna die while being considered a hero? Just run a marathon
that was for FOURTH?!?! ugh it woulda been cooler if it was for 1st they woulda taken each other’s heads off
That’s strange, I’ve finished somewhere between 10-15 ultras, and I have many friends in the community. Yet I’ve only ever heard of a few isolated incidents of vomiting and nausea. Never experienced it myself. Would be good to see what kind of ultra runner survey is behind that data, what was their sample.
In any case, it’s important to note that the races mentioned here are some of the toughest in the world (e.g. Badwater and Barkley). One does not simply go there without many years of experience and gradually more tougher ultras races behind one’s belt.
Also, like someone else mentioned in the comments, the key ingredients to a good ultra experience are:
1) proper pacing (i.e. knowing your pace, not going too fast, never pushing yourself too hard),
2) fueling (eating things your body can digest easily, such as bananas, sports bars, sports gels, sports drinks and similar I mean wtf was that about pasta, food like that is only ever served after the race),
3) hydration (knowing approx. how much you sweat per an hour when running, and therefore running with a backpack which will usually hold anywhere from 0.7L, for the world’s top ultra athletes, to 2L of water or sports drink, for people like me, in special reservoirs).
And as for sleepiness realistically, no-one really has to start worrying about that until they are doing races which come close to 24h in length.
Not all ultras are trail marathons. Some tend to be just timed races that run consistent loops for 12,24,48,72+ hours.
There’s a bit of a science to fuel intake during different ultras but not all are specifically brutal in terms of heat and elevation gain. They all have a unique challenge to it which is what keeps it interesting. I implore you to check out the results from the 24 hour world championships this past weekend in Albi, France!
Taking out the garbage from imaginary homes is a small price to pay for glory.
Why for God’s sake do you use Kilometers? Don’t tell me because science you called losing eyesight hell gate syndrome… Which is not the scientific term?
Man that was kind of disturbing! I’m shocked that women in the top 5 would be so wrecked at the end:S I only saw 1 person collapse at IMC 2007! So, kinda strange anyways, I guess I’ll know what it’s like August 24th:D Joinin’ the club then.
I do ultra marathon every year. I walk more than 100km a year. Does that count?
What if you run 43 kilometers, does that count as ultramarathon?
Really? lmao he could’ve just sat down and rested for a minute or 2 drinked some water and than atleast walked. Its obv was for a fucking attention and thats just shows what a pussy he is, and someone in the comments talked about pride? really is this a pride? crawling on your knees while 80year old grandpha is running ahead.Yea yea all that training course for Marines is 90% based on stamina and yes running marathon is the best way to proove that u are mentally and physically tough. Facts ur government started the war you are not fighting for your country fucking retards u are fighting for ur government.
Why are there 98 a-holes who gave this video a thumbs down……really???
And here I am trying to complete a challenge where I train for one in 30 days. See if I live here: https://02ultra.wordpress.com
Ultra runners are insane! Check out YouTuber fulltiltward. This guy completed the Moab 240 mile race in a little over 3 days with just a few hours of sleep. At the finish line he was still happy and talkative…he asked some people if they wanted to grab a beer and then he did Acro yoga with some lady. Craziest shit I’ve ever seen. Didn’t even think that was possible before let alone someone actually enjoying the experience.
This is marathon. Sometimes you run over your limit. You do not get help. You train again, and you try again. The help is not compassion, it is look at me.
So 1 millimeter over a marathon is an Ultra-Marathon? Sweet.
Forrest Gump: That day, for no particular reason, I decided to go for a little run. So I ran to the end of the road. And when I got there, I thought maybe I’d run to the end of the town. And when I got there, I thought maybe I’d just run across Greenbow County. And I figured, since run this far, maybe I’d just run across the great state of Alabama. And that’s what I did. I ran clear across Alabama. For no particular reason I just kept on goin’. I ran clear to the ocean. And when I got there, I figured, since I’d gone this far, I might as well turn around, just keep on goin’. When I got to another ocean, I figured, since I’d gone this far, I might as well just turn back, keep right on goin’.
Looking like Patrick star when he was dragging SpongeBob in Sandy’s dome gasping for air
Unlike commercial videos, I think the emotions and fatigues were very clearly captured in this video. Excellent work! I am running a half marathon on the 24th of November this year.
Any suggestions for me?
They will kill you if tried in hot weather conditions. Marathon should never be tried in hot or dry ground. Only good for forests and rainy. It can kill military men in one day.
At this point the US is just being a little kid refusing to convert to the metric system SMH
I did CCC in 108km around mont blanc last 2017 it was one of the worst weather for the race’s history. After descending Grand col ferret and reaching Champex lac around 70k into the race, my eyesight went all white. I had to stay inside the station for 3 hrs until my vision got a bit better which costed me my buffer time, good thing I was still able to finish the race. No food intake after 50km
I rather of seen the 17yr old interviewed, this lady is ungrateful
Super cool idea! Not sure how I haven’t heard of this yet. Looking forward to giving it a try come spring!
Does anyone know if there is a comparable version of this for half marathon training? Shorten to 10 400 intervals? Or 5 800s etc.
Your body clearly says “no”.
There is nothing glorious about it.
“What happens to your body when you start being physically active?”
Me: I die.
Wow. Talk about cognitive dissonance…..well she IS a psychiatrist…”I know I would’ve made it over that finish line no matter what…!” No you wouldn’t. You would have been laying on the ground. That girl that helped you didn’t apparently get a word of thanks for that big-hearted gesture. Wow.
Why would you subject yourself to going 100 miles on foot in a 60hr time limit. That’s a really stupid goal
Why was the thumbnail girl so attractive. Do you become sultry when ultramarathoning?
Right… enjoy the view while you’re sleepy, hallucinating, damn near blind, and suffering stomach issues.
Sign me up!
Generally this is people have not prepared correctly. The greatest ultra marathon runner of all time Yannis Kouros states its not about the training you do, its about your mental ability. In fact before Yannis became the worlds best, a 62 yo won an ultra marathon race in my home town and a few years later, Yannis completely destroy the field in the same race. If a 62 yo can win it, its about your mental ability and they both did it on no sleep for the first 35 hours
Hi, may I know how did yall end up on this video?
My was through ‘My Daily Bread’.
I would’ve used elbow guards and military crawl all the way to the finish line.
Lot more runners are doing keto diet because it more dense fuel from fat and with out the side effects of high glucose and carbs. Little known fact is that glucose is a terrible fuel source. It good for short burst but in long term it’s damaging. So fat is far better fuel for the body and it actually preferred by the body and brain.
some good points…if MP is too hard, its not MP? I’m training for Boston and London:-)
I am really sorry but nowadays one is supposed to be prepared to run a marathon. It’s not just about to show up and say I will do it.
Im 187cm.. 122kg.naturally muscular.and can’t run more than 15 km…I think running for long distance need light frame body
James another great video thanks very much for these helpful points. I am currently training for the London Marathon 2018
Go and check out the Comrades Marathon in South Africa…its 90km…give and take….this year the first lady came in in just under 6hours…the men finish the race in under 5hrs30min…now that is called untra running!!! There is a big difference between running and just plodding along for 20hrs or longer!!
I’m early in my training for a marathon next year. I started in very poor shape and I can’t imagine what its like doing an ultra marathon much less in a trail like the one you ran. Congratulations on your amazing accomplishment!
I’m from Sydney, I consider it the ‘spiritual home’ of the ironman because we have some of the best in the world and I think you’ll find it was actually Southern California! You are obviously confused by my superior knowledge of ironman but that’s okay. We’re not all perfect like me!
What a beautifully made video. I’m playing with the idea of ultra, and she really motivated me.
Yes! Please do more and longer running Documentaries. Thanks for doing this one!
Hopefully running a 200 miler next year. The Bigfoot 200… Pray for me
This video is awesome, very inspirational . Am looking at taking part in an ultra so this definitely gives a good insight
Great, I find the most important thing is to dial in gear and nutrition. I know of a few people who even change shoe types for 100km + races, using Hoka’s for the last part, extra cushioning.
Fantastic!!!! Come to Australia and film my first Ultra. What a tribute to love of your life
That was awesome! Impossible to explain to non runners, but appreciated by those that do!
This reminded me of my first ultra. Which was a 50 mile run, well it was listed as 50 mile but I made a wrong turn and did 55 miles. During the race I said this was the last time I would do this but four months later I was thinking of doing it again just like Elin! It is hard to explain but I know what she is feeling. I have now done four ultras and have one more scheduled in a month. Goran you need to join her.
such a great job well done! and you’re right, 50K is just a start.i know that for myself. last year i did 80k and going to do 160 in september and 250 in march. but still a great job and the race looked amazing. was it Norway? greetings from holland
Awesome story, so inspiring. Thanks for share it. Greetings from Brazil!:)
a supposedly welltrained white marine getting beaten by normies. thats embarassing.
Great job on the run (and the film!). The only thing harder than an ultra must be doing an ultra while filming it.
What a beautifull video. Contrats to Elin and sure that she will keep on doing ultras and pushing herself far as possible. Also a beautifull testimonial of love
why did she change packs? I have never seen anyone do that, like ever. Although its no big deal. Getting out and doing ultra trails is totally where its at. I’ve done a few even though I am slow (which I thought was a big deal), the community doesn’t care. Getting out and putting one foot in front of another and doing something EPIC!
Is the Boston Marathon harder than the Los Angeles Marathon?
Awesome! and very inspiring! want to run my first 50K in Autumn. Thanks for that video
Congratulations… I just did my first 50 this year too!!! Feels great huh?!
Awesome! I am an ultra marathon runner from Brazil and I hope, you make more videos like this!! Congrats!
Well done Elin!!! I love this video so much, you are such a lovely couple. My dream is to run an Ultra, training starts after Christmas 2019!!!
Very nice cinematography! Has she decided to run another ultra?
Great video. Why is something that makes you feel so miserable, so addicting? At some point in every ultra I’ve run, I swear I’m never signing up for another. After my last 50k it was just over 24 hours and I signed up for an 80k. How dumb is that?:)
Really enjoyed the story. The camera work and post production was awesome. Great job.
Really great video. I could feel the pain as I had recently done my first 50km too
Hallucinations and a nice view hmmm sign me up! Deadass finna be my new hobby:D
I’m a 48 Australian now living in Singapore. I’m a runner, mother of 3 and need your help to please to be accepted for adventure race Fjällräven Polar https://youtu.be/DNpm5vNUKaQ
Ultra is my dream. I was preparing for my first half marathon and month before the race I broke a leg. So now I need to do some exercises and just wait a couple weeks till I will run again. Icaaan ‘t wait I love it
What, no discussion on maceration of the feet? That’s the kinda pain you have to create a relationship with. BAHAHAHAHA!
The ending was cute, am going to register myself a race now. Lol
These people dumb I told people these marathons be killing people! Anybody telling people to run a marathon is a crash dummy! I will never run one
Come on guys, I am a triathlete but I can laugh at this, it is kind of funny. Admirable too.BTW Ironman isn’t a 100 mile run, it’s a triathlon:)
A great video and an inspirational run from Elin I’ve done a trail half-marathon and I’m so tempted by a 50k but worried about the amount of training involved! The video’s got me thinking again……♂️!
They should’ve interviewed the other girl instead. Y her? She was selfish to still grab the win from the OBVIOUS winner hu also happened to help her.
Really awesome off you bought! wish i meet some one to start up with so that really cool well done.!!! I run little but its so cool and inspiration to see these videos, love it:)
She made sure she reached that hand out first while in her death spiral though
This workout isn’t very accurate, to be honest. The pounding that your body takes during a marathon is it’s own separate thing. This is a great workout though, and can be trusted as an endurance ‘indication’, but not a prediction.
I’m a (and this response is for all the) ‘middle of the pack’ runner (aiming for a sub 4 hour finish Male age 43, 5’8″, 165lbs). I love this workout (named after Runner’s World Bart Yasso) but it’s important to note that this video doesn’t present a key aspect of this workout’s accuracy:
<<< You have to be able to finish 10 x 800s and feel well enough to do 2-4 more critical >>>
If you are fully spent and just barely able to finish 10, then you are probably going to fast for this to be a prediction. Also, if it’s too easy, well, then you just ran around the track 30 times wee!
Here’s my tip: make this a weekly workout (over the course of 4+ months) leading up to the marathon. Set a starting pace that allows you to get through 5, before you just wanna stop, but could probably eek 1 more out on fumes. Then, add on 1 ‘Yasso’ every week. You will get a more accurate feel for your fitness level and strength this way. Also, if you are like me, you will get a proper check of your expectations over time. GPS during races is notoriously inaccurate for pacing, so it helps you to focus on your natural pacing abilities which will keep you relaxed on long efforts. 1 thing I found critical to my success with this workout was: If I COULD NOT ADD a Yasso to a weekly workout, then I’d repeat the previous week’s workout until I could. Over time I was able to get to 10. Getting to 10 and feeling like I could do a few more was really a huge accomplishment in and of itself. That accomplishment is only one of a few factors that have has given me the confidence that ‘I can actually do this marathon at the pace I want’. I hope to do one last 10 x Yasso next week to check myself (I’m 3 weeks out from my race day at the moment). In reality, your strength during your long runs; the nutrition during those runs; your balance/evenness/calmness while running; and your rest and hydration prior to race day play huge factors as well. Oh yeah, did I mention I was doing these in all summer in the blazing NYC heat and that I finally got to 10 when the temperature dropped to 60F in a light drizzle? Weather is a huge factor on race day. There is no substitute for mixing up your run speed in training and adding cross training to keep your fitness level strong on rest/flex days. Also, I found that for every pound I lost this year training for the marathon (30lbs), my speed increased, so getting my weight down made me faster over time as well.
I never thought I’d learn so much about my body training for the marathon. There are so many things about this sport that have to be learned through experimentation, pain, and failure. I never thought I’d have to get so deeply body-centric when I started down this path. I just thought, “I wanna run a marathon”, haha. I keep track of every single thing I eat/drink, every hour of quality rest, every pump of my heart, every drop of water, and every second of quality exercise. I am quite possibly, at once, the most annoying and boring person to talk too about running. It never ends!
Awesome video. I’m training for a marathon in March 2020, not only do I know I have it in the bag I have already started looking for ultra trails later in the year. Super inspired thank you
It’ll always baffle me why people choose to hurt themselves in the stupidest ways like such endurance events. 10k is as far as anyone should ever go
So he crawled for 5 miles? This looks a lot like a publicity stunt. Crawling would have hurt more than walking
Great video and incredibly inspiring. Thank you for sharing your experience.
What are YOU training for right now? Tell me below…
Favorite part is you signing up for the next race 3 hours after finishing. Good on ya!
I didn’t think you were allowed to have headphones during Boston
I had the same story. I ran a 21k on street, thought about a marathon, but hit the trails more often to enjoy the time and outdoors. I didn’t care about time, just views and having fun. Skipping down technical trails. It was the first time i had fun running 21k and didn’t realize i ran that much. I ran my first 50k without a race. Just trails having fun, topping up water in little streams. I had so much fun that day, just running.
Thinking about finaly joining some race with support stations. I think it will be a nice experience to run with people.
When there’s another person going with you to the race, why not let him drive? It’ll be more relaxing for you before the race. Just my 2 cents.
sounds like you really have to hate your body to run an ultramarathon
There are a lot of people thinking he was faking it. He could have been. Well never know. All I know is a marathon sucks to run in if you don’t do it often or workout to prepare. I’ve worked out so hard that my body has become flaccid. Your mind wants to keep going but your muscles won’t work. It just doesn’t happen. Those who are quick to judge this guy probably have an ego issue and are insecure about themselves.
Is that ‘Mucker’, the legendary long distance runner from Northern Ireland who broke all records at the recent Belfast marathon?
I don’t usually dislike a youtube video. But when I do, i will dislike it. This woman is cringy and selfish. She’s not even grateful. The girl whol helped her should have won the marathon.
She is also a psychiatrist… There is no doubt why the world goes mad today…
The world is FULL of ungrateful people like this old woman.. people like her don’t deserve to be helped
A fantastic account of a great achievement. I like that you have kept it so real. I’m 54 years old and have run 5km to 12km fairly regular for over 10 years. People around me are doing longer distances so back in August I entered a 10 mile road race which took place October 10th and thats how long I trained for it. After 8 miles it was so so hard I can’t begin to understand what it takes to do an ultra. Since then I ran 11.6 miles 1 week later with 1 energy gel. Then Yesterday with 2 energy gels I did a half marathon on my own. Again, the pain, the mental torture…….I don’t think I could have got to 17 miles. Maybe 15? I really don’t even think 26.2 miles is on the cards. Well done!!
You forgot to mention the muscle breakdown known as rhabdomyolysis.
What an a**** even now she can’t humble yourself! Ridiculous
Shes ungrateful, the 17 year old girl did you a favor and you don’t even bother to say thank you. You wouldn’t have finished the race without her.
Congraz! Nice video but 50k is not an Ultra. 50 miles maybe & above. Good luck on y next steep.
That ungrateful lady is a psychiatrist now . I wonder if she says don’t thank anyone who helps you along the way too. Cring worthy indeed.
Marine didn’t train at all for the marathon; that’s embarrassing. What was he thinking? why even run a marathon if you didn’t train for it? Like he just got off the couch one day and jumped into a marathon race. Even a bad runner can finish the marathon without crawling if they trained for it.
She is just trying to explain that coming in first is not everything despite her falls she was going to get back up….. She is aware that the 19 year old had only good intentions but that could have disqualified her then all that effort would have been for nothing….. I am sure if the 19 year took first and her after a million falls takes second she provably would have found that more satisfying than being helped to reach the victory line…. The 19 year old helping her is satisfying as the viewer bit as the person running she probably wanted to do all her self no matter how many times she fell…… That’s probably why she didn’t say thank you….. Plus she might have said and it was of camera or idk
When you can’t walk, you crawl. And when you can’t do that…you find somebody to carry you.
Seems a bit self centered. The story is about the young woman who aided her. What a wonderful young woman! Love to see interview with her.
Ok um she acts like she owns it when that girl is the reason she has that stupid medal. She’s saying don’t give up you go down you crawl ect in her case you get down someone else picks you up and then you become all selfish I honestly just AHHHHH
How does she not thank that lady. Ungrateful women
U would not have made it
U made it because of that 17 year old.
Cmon! She could’ve said something like, “thank you” to the kind girl. That girl helped her win!
shame on you..the real winner is that young girl…so selfish!!!
How can people be so unsportsmanslike like this Karen type of person?
And keep in mind this selfish, ungrateful, self-unaware person is a psychiatrist. On second thought maybe not so surprising?
She knew she was going to get passed at the end, so she faked an injury and had to commit to it. This follow up interview only confirms that she is an egomaniac.
Should have given your medal to the strange girl…you did not deserve that win. What arrogance
Weird ungrateful woman.. the other girl shouldn’t have helped her
I’m glad you’re feeling better because that was painful to watch. What a nice person to help you.
There’s a scene in Patrick just like this, the is movie about a pug.
She could have taken the chance to just run and win but she has the heart to help her❤️
Wow man, you are a legend in these parts. I’m from Sydney, Australia, the home of the iron man competition. I used to think us Aussies were tough until I saw you buddy. I had intended to film you at the last endurance race but you ran past so quick that I only got you disappearing over the hill. Keep up the good work man!
These guys are an inspiration. I’m about to run my second Chicago Marathon in hopes of getting into the Boston Marathon. Time to train.
Dang she’s acting like she did it herself when the girl was the reason she made it the finish line
I sure do hear a lot of “I” comments. You should be giving much more credit to that young woman. Without her you would have STAYED down.
Why interview the stumbling lady, you should have interviewed the younger girl.
Even a marathon cause micro strokes. I recommend the papers of doctor James O’Keefe, running too much, as anything in too much, is not good for you
I’m not trying to be rude but if I was Ariana I would have seen her running and I would have sprinted right past her then won the helped her.
The other girl learned a lesson that day. No good deed goes unpunished. Sucks that this lady basically took the opportunity to show her that it doesn’t pay to help people and stamp out her kind tendencies rather than being thankful.
This what toxic ‘strong’ looks like. Pushing yourself beyond your limits, attaching your worth to accomplishments. Pushing through is helping you have weak boundries and not listening to yoyr body, intuition ect. For what? To be viewed as better from the outside
She only ate half of her bowl of Wheaties before rushing out to get to the Race
Obviously not enough gels and their race tactics were wrong. Sorry had to be said!
Well done Elin! Really can relate to how you were in your video. I ran my first 50km in Taupo in this past October 2019 (3 weeks ago) and it was an epic day out!
That was heart breaking and inspireing, I am running my first tri in sept. and I will most likely end the race like that.
Awesome video!! You edited it very well. As a trail runner myself, I could definitely understand her emotions. I have yet to reach ultra trail status though.
Thank you for documenting her experience.
I’m a world class squad triathlete and that was sooo funny! The best bit, ‘her stalker appears!’
Ummm she should atleast say thankyou to the other girl c’mon
@13 and 47 that what unsuspecting people do when they walk into one of my fart clouds I let in an aisle at the store.
I swear to god this is such a disgusting person. She actually believes that she deserved the first place?
She’s selfish!! I hate to see how she reaches the finish line, i just hope the girl who’s helping her has the same popularity and attention or more than her! The other girl is the true winner and its obvious!
If I would have ran out there to help that lady, they would have carried me away in handcuffs and charged me with rape.
Funny? I am in awe of the strength and courage these two women demonstrate and can only question if I had half their internal drive & commitment to reach a goal as they so powerfully demonstrate, naked for the world to see. I can only think of their integrity and conviction, and be humbled by it!
1:24 I always thought running and doing exercise’s actually helped with digestion?…..
Hi dusty great video. Can you advise me on a YASSO 800 plan for a 3:40 marathon. I have in October thank you Thomas
Easy pace is conversational breathing. How should the breathing feel like at marathon pace? I am able to meet all my training targets but my marathon pace still feels hard and the breathing is certainly not calm. Can talk in short sentences only. Marathon in 10 days:(
some people with due respect to soldiers who fought and are still fighting for this country but going through all that is just PR stunt it doesn’t help you run or walk like the last 2
What a timely video. My program is ramping up the marathon pace segments of the long runs and I had the same thoughts/doubts about the sustainability of that pace. After watching this video, I can’t wait for Sunday and my next crack at MP
Thanks James
Congratulations!!! That was awesome to see the ups, downs and specially the success. Not to mention the willingness to sign up for another one. Amazing!
The crawling guy could not have possibly crawled from mile 22. He finished in 3:38 That is an 8:19 average pace. If you walk fast you are lucky to make a 15 minute pace. His splits were all fast until 35 K then he slowed down and took 38 minutes to get to 40K after that he was a little over a mile from the end. It took him 34 minutes to make that last mile and a half. He was beat for sure. His reason for going is admirable but him crawling at the end was because he ran too fast for his condition and got caught up in the moment. People end up in very serious conditions from doing that. That is not how you should finish a marathon. Too risky.
First!
preparing for Paris marathon and thanks for the advice.
Love from Paris!
Seeing this, the image of bulbs and gouges flashing red with intensity explain what these athletes are going through. Horns sounding, “failing system” in the cockpit, heat bends metal and inertia keeps everything moving, one more step.
Damn! She kept going. Even though she was wiggle wiggling but she made it. Good for you ladies.
Here’s to swimming with bow legged women, looks like the work of Devil Ether…..lol
That’s inspiring how they kept trying even though they couldn’t run anymore. I am a triathlete and I understand how it feels to not be able to run anymore after all of the swimming, biking and running
I remembered trying to do a normal marathon before, I died on the first kilometre lol
She didn’t get 4th place. She defeated herself. She pushed her physical body to its absolute limit. Shes a true champion
I have never served in the military, I have never run a marathon, and I could be wrong… but this seems fishy.
I’m glad they finished. The sting of regret would have weighed heavily if they hadn’t.
Is it just total muscle failure? Or are they totally cramped up? What’s happening to them?
Super High Respect For These Sisters! I can’t do what they do, but then again we all have different strengths. Can you imagine if the whole of the human race, our own brothers and sisters would join strengths?
for me it is mental. I can easily hit 5k, 3k goal paces on tired legs if I’m with a running group at the track. Motivating myself to run MP when on a long run on my own is another matter.
Really this both women are inspiration to us… Hats off to their never give up attitude. ❤️❤️
how long did it take you? took me 6 hours and 15 min the first time. then 4h 39 min
I am amazed. I’ve never seen anything like this!Admitted, they did look funny with those awkward walks, but theý sure did fight! Very inspiring…
I’m confused about so many things in this report. First of all, you have to run a qualifying time in a prior marathon, so how can Boston be your first? And how do participants qualify that need a cane? Is there some way to sidestep the qualification process?
Why would you organise a marathon that hardly any human can make it and in the hottest of weathers. I think this is the work of Thanos.
Consider the difference in intelligence in the following two comments (partly made up but matching the comments found here)
“Incredible! What a fantastic achievement! Truly inspiring!”
“LOL look how funny they walk D:D:D”
Waow so emotional and inspirational! You can feel at the same time the difficulty of the challenge and the satisfaction of doing it. Congratulations to Elin and thank you for the great video:)
Ps. Which shoes is she wearing? I did my first trail last summer and really want to go into it, the addiction is starting ^^
Seriously that was just incredibly dangerous, those runners should have been pulled out of the race before seriouslyl damaging their bodies like that.
This reminds me of that saying that Michael said “one day you wake up and your legs they just give you can’t run anymore”
This sports really need super stamina and best teams works!
Hi all. I’m an ultra marathon runner and decided to make a youtube channel in hopes of sharing my journey. If you could take a moment to check it out that would mean a lot. https://youtu.be/LwJ9sU2UO6U
Those are some amazing athletes. It is only funny if you don’t have a clue what your watching.
Dont quite understand how any of that related to my comment, i am not the only one who thought it was funny, i was shown this by a british junior champion and both found it funny rather than inspiring. Try Bevens run to the finish video, thats inspiring!
Watched it again. Great job Elin! I am thinking maybe I should start runing. I mean maybe start from 1k.
Honestly it feels like she wanted to win it SOLO Without any help.. i mean its a big accomplishment if you do it with absoloutely 0 help and you would feel a lot lot better.. having that tiny bit of help even kinda steals the purity from this whole thing so i can see why she is anger a bit
or i am delusion
Go on an ultramarathon for what a trip no ty I’ll just trip on lsd seems safer in the long term
my comment wasnt meant to take the piss, i was askin a serious question… they were both equally drunk lookin… surely theres somin wrong
I met Wendy today…..she is truely an inspiration. The reason why her body was shutting down was because she had lost her salt tablets in the middle of the race. Her body was completly depleted. She is amazing……
Typical American!!! Over exagerating to get there 15min of fame!!! Why wasnt that Veteren wearing a shirt which is mandatory or you get red carded.
Everyone calling her ungrateful and saying the 17 year old should’ve won is an absolute moron. Why don’t you get the full story instead of this snippet from inside edition
As a content creator and ultra runner I really think this was very well done!
If you watch closely, the guy in the green shirt hits her with a poison dart! Sodium depletion my arse!
I agree with Qlenz. Ironman is lost on most people. Mostly the people who enter it! Stick a hoover in her hand and she’d get up quick enough the fanny!!
WOW…I cried a tear when I saw this, I cramped up at the end of my only marathon to date and yes 200 yards might as well be 200 miles. These two girls were incredible, truly inspirational.
Wow great Elin! huge congrats (from a person who wants to do her first ultra also:D ) and huge compliment to Göran as well for this video it was like a movie, so nice to watch and really well captured and story telling:)
Just speechless another reason why i dislike inside edition.
That hits me in the feels.I love my running family!! The guy who ruined his time to see the paralysed guy home is what its all about
Same thing happened to an Indonesian soldier during a marathon: https://youtu.be/mqLLAP9Bs9Y
He should’ve run without that black cap or at least a lighter and more bright colored one. It keeps his body from exposing heat, plus it absorbs sunlight and makes even hotter.
Almost teared up when he exclaimed “we don’t leave anybody behind”
I love my Marine Corps
Semper
Kudos to those humans who have a desire to do this. I have no desire to run more than 4 or 5 miles
How many days do you take to complete 4,345 km run?? How do you do the run, continuosly without a break or with intervals in between?? Is it an individual race or a passing baton relay??
I have no distance tris under my race belt, i have had bad races and even a newspaper commenting on a terrible run performance when i was just 16. To be honest it made me show those who doubted me, i am not writing to humiliate them all i am saying it is what myself and several other world class athletes my age saw it as.
Stop with the military propaganda bullshit. He got paid while in the service, didn’t he? He’s no fucking hero in my eyes.
Marathon: 26.2 miles
Ultra marathon: anything more than 26.2 miles
Me: Runs 26.3 miles
Also me: I’m an ultra marathoner
Hey. I live in Bergen too, I wonder where on Earth you find these lush, not too steep, very runnable forests around here??? I have been searching, like forever?! I would appreciate your feedback! 😉 Keep running! (Could join for one too, if interested 😉 I am a veteran UltraRunner.)
I feel like the first guy tried to put on a bit of a show. He could have walked
What an idiotic, meaningless waste of time. Seems silly that people could care so much about this, something so useless; all for a silly little self-esteem boost. And that guy at the end was crying… because he met a mexican? What a little bitch; liberals are weird.
Wait Carlos is from the year of the bombing, I’d recognize that hat anywhere. The grit some of these runners have is amazing. Being a Bostonian these stories make me proud to see this race bring people together.
Proper hardcore, banty at it’s best. True inspiration for anyone too drunk tryin’ to walk home, they were sobre and done it.
This is just sad. He can’t even finish a marathon standing up right being a marine when some disabled people could even finish it.
Smh
How is he a marine and could not run a marathon. It’s still honorable that he finished how he did but man
Me: Watching this video.
My body: (laughs) C’mon, who are you kidding? You?.. Running?
(Then we both laugh and proceed to watch more videos lying down in bed)
Aww the little b*tch just wants attention cause his parents never gave it to him.
Amazing shooting.. Beautifull picture and congratz with the result of your first ultra
Breaks my heart hearing her say, after she crossed the line and they are carrying her; “I tried”.. Sheesh
Those Ultras are brutal. Ran my first a few years back when I was 19. First 38k or so was not so bad but I didn’t feel comfortable. After that I crashed. Having to lap a golf course like 14 times in the freezing cold wasn’t so fun anymore. But I think afterwards, within the first minute of finishing, you realize it was all worth it.
Selfish self self self self self self self self self. That 17 year old won that race. Period.
I think that’s the same Carlos who helped the victims of the Boston marathon bombing a few years ago. Could be wrong still a great guy.
Why cant they prep well enough
Noone need this type of heroism
It’s sad he lost his buddies and all. But this is just dramatizing. You can’t just sign up for the Boston Marathon, you need to be able to show you can run one under 03:30 hours (for men). Nobody running this race would ever crawl like this. This is just for show. Plus the reporter at the end says this was his first marathon ever? Nice american army propaganda.
Well done, Elin. Goran, loved this story, which was amazingly well-told and filmed! Thank you.
An example of why race nutrition and planning are important.
She doesn’t sound thankful at all imo interview the true winner next time!
No, no they shouldnt. It was thier race. They had to finish it.Honestly, how would you feel if you were legs were giving out that close the finish line, and someone came up to you and said “No, your done. We are carrying you the rest of the way”I would be damned sure I wasnt carried
Hey! thats me at 0:42 in the blue shirt behind him. My legs hurt too! Crawling would not have helped.
