My Advice On A Career In Fitness

Senior Personal Training Is a Growing Trend. As the baby-boomer generation ages, the need for trainers specialized in senior fitness has grown and will continue to grow for years to come. Some trainers market exclusively to seniors, but more often it’s the senior-friendly gyms and organizations that market their programs. As seniors age, maintaining good health is essential, and working with a personal trainer can play an integral role. In addition, partnering with an in-home care provider can also help seniors stay on top of everything they need and want to do while getting personalized assistance.
That’s why, according to the New York Times, more and more seniors themselves are finding a second career as a personal trainer, helping their peers achieve fitness goals. Indeed, it’s important to select a personal trainer that you’re comfortable working with who has the experience and specialized knowledge needed to work with aging adults.A personal trainer can guide the seniors toward the correct equipment that’s appropriate for them as well as how to use it safely. They also prevent the seniors from lifting loads that could exceed their strength and ability to handle and strain their muscles.
Seniors can also band together and hire trainers for more affordable group classes. One possibility is Silver Sneakers, a lower-cost exercise program that is available at 16,000 locations. In response to the lack of physical education in schools, many parents are enrolling their children in health clubs and hiring personal trainers to get their kids in shape. Companies and Employees Many businesses and corporations understand that healthy, physically fit employees are more productive than employees who may be overworked or unhealthy.
3. Long-term guidance and motivation. As we age, it gets harder to stay motivated towards exercise, so having a trainer guide and motivate you can keep you going. Certified personal trainers can provide structure and do the thinking for you so you can focus on the “doing” rather than the planning.
The Value of Personal Training for Seniors Physical fitness provides a wealth of health benefits, regardless of your age. However, seniors may enjoy unique benefits: Being inactive is a.1. Getting certified as a personal trainer doesn’t actually involve working out.
Certification is theory-based: you study out of a book and then go to a testing center for your exam.2019 is a great year to get into personal training in the United States. Many personal trainers enjoy the profession because they get to help people transform their lives everyday as well as work in a relaxed environment that promotes health and fitness.Another growing personal trainer trend includes behavior modification and accountability.
This is happening in response to a former trend that emphasized dieting as the optimum method for losing weight. Senior and Youth Specialties.Motivation.
Most of us work harder in the presence of others. Having a trainer by your side can provide the encouragement, energy and motivation you need to jumpstart your routine. A trainer can also help you set goals, create a plan to accomplish them and celebrate the day you reach them.
2.Why Seniors should Try Personal Training. You’ll feel better and be less prone to injuries too. Our personal training for seniors focuses on what’s important for seniors like flexibility, core strength and back pain. Core training is part of all of our senior fitness.
Hiring a personal trainer is the ultimate way to eliminate this problem. Whether your goals are weight loss or entering a weightlifting competition and you’re crunched for time, paying someone to write you a plan to get there is the way to go. This will ensure that you reach your goals.
Here is another way to look at it.Personal trainers are certified, enthusiastic, and motivational, giving you the boost you may need to continue working out, even without a contract in place. Once you establish the right routine, it is much easier to stay on track while also keeping your mind clear and focused.

Hi there I’ve always struggled with this question. What is a reasonable amount to charge per hour? I’m certified through ACSM and I earned my bachelors in Integrative Health Science with intent to go into physical therapy. It’s always been tough for me to gauge the exchange between my time per hour and pay. I want to make a difference in my community and inspire health into people but I also want to be paid what I am worth. How do you find that balance?
Sales skills and being in shape / attractive help as well as asking for the sale
Could you please do some sort of talk for us in and around the London area Rob?
Guys! Really Really thank you for the advices. I was pissed about little things at the company, and now i stoped that and started to figure out how to resolve, to move on we this things. And you guys are very very funny XD. S2

hey man you are really sympathetic to me, when i hear that, it reminds me to me:P
I’m a bit late to this video but its helped!
I’m right at the start of deciding about doing my Lvl 2 gym instructor and Lvl 3 PT course.
I’m trying to watch as many videos as I can that involve a career in fitness before I fully commit!
I need to know the ins and outs of what a day in the life of a personal trainer is like, whether is self employed or working in a gym/health club.
Any advice from Rob or anybody would be great! TIA.
He speaks the truth. My parents were talking about me needing a trade for a career in my life. Basically saying how am I gonna pay for my bills or want to move out on my own. They don’t believe that I can make extra money becoming a personal trainer. I do want to become a personal trainer and being my own boss. I want to do online personal training.
Guys are you still continue with the podcast? the last podcast seems to be Dec24-2018???
Thanks Rob, really helpful stuff! So glad to have found this!
This is one of the best things I’ve ever heard. Thank you so much for sharing this!
I’m currently a Business major and I hate it. My passion is Fitness/Fashion/Music and I just want to do what I want to do without any judgement/consequences. I’m so lost.
Awesome video, with all your success you’re humble and will help anyone out. Perfect advice for me right now!
Certified personal trainer is useless unless that trainer is shredded
Never met people that make you feel like you have to convince them to take care of their own health and fitness? Like it is not enough to explain them why is good to do x, y, z… they are not intrinsically motivated at all to commit to their commitment. How you manage to text to all your clients all the time?!?? O_O
This has to be a sign from the universe confirming what I have been pondering on. I could care less of what my family will think. I will be happy doing what I love everyday and trying to inspire people:)
Bro you just summed up how I am feeling right now. I am passionate about fitness and well being. I don’t find any happiness or drive in college. It’s draining and I just can’t sit in a seat anymore. My parents are not with the idea of me dropping out. However I would rather work a 9-5 and downgrade for a while and work on spreading awareness and love for fitness. I am thinking of dropping after this semester for good:)
Diving in a culture of “knowing” instead of “feeling” (or at least a good mix of both) isn’t it ridiculous that someone should teach someone else (hoping to get enough bucks in return) how to move his/her body for the sake of loosing weight or “get a better shape”?! WTF… is in fact much better to choose an activity that you FEEL you like it, I agree with that! Then, sports make far more sense like a training practice focused on skills or perfomance objectives within a specific activity! If you teach your client to train independently, is a satisfaction for you because you taught someone else how to take care of him/her-self but on the other side of course they will not need any more to pay for your “PT session”. And it sucks when you have to explain why it is good to do some form of training, especially with topics related to health, because HOW the hell a person should be not interested in his/her own health!!??!?? It sounds like you should convince them to some form of training!! O_O One of the strongest motivational tricks could be to make some people realize that they do not give a F** to their own health, in other words to themselves, at all!!
Wish I hadve found this channel sooner! Very informative and great insight into the fitness industry. Love the energy man
One day I’ll be sitting down telling people my story and motivating others, this video really inspired me bro!
This is one of your best videos yet Rob! Gave a lot of good feedback and tips and just spread such positive words. Thank you
This was great Rob. Still poppin this video on here and there to take tidbits away and remind myself to keep grindin’. You’re a great soul hope to meet you one day.
Thank you! thinking of doing personal training. Thanks for this
“Look at the state of this guy” haha Great talk man. One of the few who actually touches on the real things that matter when it comes to growing a business, social media etc.
Love your videos mate. Truly inspirational and has helped me on my own weight loss journey from 23 stone to 15stone. Have you thought about fighting KSI in his next boxing match as I know you have been doing a bit of MMA recently?
Being a college kid myself in the US I had to laugh at the thought of you guys debating college debt in America, and then cry because it’s so true, and I am so fucked
ROB you defiantly watch Gary Vee or else you just have a very similar outlook on betting on your strengths and going all in on your STRENGTHS great talk mate
Many thanks for such valuable tips and wisdom. It has really have me some new lights

My journey in the field of earning and turning myself into a designer
I tried to get ripped by myself but got mediocre results. I’m thinking if I did with a personal trainer I’ll reach my body’s full potential.
As a junior you should be able to explain button and content hierarchy. Also the reason you use certain elements and how that relates to the user. If you can’t do that then you are not even a junior UX designer. You are a designer with some UX knowledge.
Extremely helpful video! I’m about to finish college and want to start my career as a UX designer. By reading into the jobs descriptions on the video, you made me feel more confident to apply to any job now. Thanks again.
A good personal trainer should educate their client but also learn from their client
If you run out of topics or knowledge then you need to learn more doesn’t have to be technical just practical stuff helps as well
Finally like the rest of the fitness industry stop lying to people
Worked 10 years in the fitness industry, my first couple of years I worked in a hardcore bodybuilding gym and then so much truth and knowledge been spreading so forth
When you get to the commercial side from the media managers down to instructors so much BS being spread
Hey guys, wanna get more personal training clients online? Sign up at https://www.meetfrans.com/
Thank you so much Rob. I needed this one and I am right where you were in 2014, I’m 22 and have earned my spot in the best business school in Germany but I’m not able to keep myself up. And just like you back then.. fitness bodybuilding is what I love. I love putting out content on Instagram and now thinking about YouTube. Once again, thank you.. I heard this at the right time.
i live in long beach too lol, can I email you so you can send me some information on nutrition?
Your the only personal trainer I’ve seen who actually looks like a personal trainer. The rest are either skinny fat or just skinny af in general.
What are your thoughts on the trademarks and terms of agreements. Do you feel as tho the fact you aren’t aloud to record and distribute the information you learn from nasm can possibly hinder the process of becoming a top personal trainer by not bein aloud to sell programs online and give advice through videos. Because from my understanding that would put you in the waters of potentially being sued by nasm.
Man, you always hit bullseye. Thanks for the video. Can see that you’ve gotten so much wisdom through life. Keep it up
Thanks for the video.
Was is scary training your first client?
Did you have a fear that you might do something wrong?
In the beginning was it difficult putting a program together for a client?
Currently studying for my cpt and those are my biggest fears.
Do you have a video that gives advice to people in other design fields, like graphic design, motion graphics, web design e.t.c. trying to get into UX or Product design? I’ve been having that problem personally, especially with my portfolio having multimedia design projects instead of UX focused ones.
Great video was wondering what size hoodie is that way you are wearing???
For the NASM certification, did you go with self-study, premium self-study, guided-study, or all inclusive? Depending on which one you chose, why did you and how was it beneficial?
how many times a month should i train with a personal trainer?
Rob, I really liked this video. Been following you on Insta for around a 6 months… But watching your videos has been super cool to learn more about you. Keep it up.
I love this vids and i know this is random but i wonder what your birthday is lol
This is amazing this really help me out for producing further content and improving the quality of my brand
Damnit Rob, you were built for this. You’re real, you’re knowledgeable, you’re understanding and you always seem so willing and prepared to answer someone’s question. You’re the man
I just want a pt and when I’m all fit and stronks they can be proud of their work and of me
I absolutely don’t agree with you when you say that people who are less motivated are the ones who pay to hire a personal trainer. I have been working out since the last 4-5 years, not into bodybuilding but just for aesthetics and fitness and i always go 5 times a week. Recently i went for a personal trainer because i wanted someone to push me to condition my brain and body to hit one more rep, one more set, when i felt like i could not lift anymore and it has worked its charm. Within 2 weeks i feel i can push and pull more, i have gained a little more stamina and strength.
Great vid rob love all of them ur so inspirational keep at it man
One of the best talks I’ve heard my man. Thankyou for this video dude.
Made me realise I’m 100% not doing enough to make it so today it changes
Being a good personal trainer is about helping out clients in such a way that they talk about you and word of mouth keeps you in business. Your mindset of not wanting to help train ppl into independence seems skewed.
This may be really late but I think that I can be motivated and I workout a lot but I need someone who knows what they are doing to get my body to be what I want it to be. I’ve been doing videos and other things for years and motivation and consistency is not enough I would have to pay someone to get me the next level
Thanks man amazing video so motivating. really love your vids.
Your videos are so motivational, so much useful information ❤️
Just watched the video again, now with my new intern.
I have almost 10 years experience as a graphic designer and have recently started with UI and UX. So I feel like a junior in this area.
In general I believe that if you stay humble, love what you do and KEEP STUDYING is the key to climb the ladder.
There is always somebody who will make you “feel like a junior” and you will always make someone feel like a junior.
There is no end line to knowledge.
UX and UI Designers have different tasks and responsibilities and clients know that. Why the heck should a UX designer deal with making buttons beautiful? Please get this shit right.
Finally, someone says a PT is an unhealthy motivation!!!!!! My PT guilts me so much saying I should stop being “lazy” and I have to “push through”. I find it so toxic and discouraging the words she says…when I work out myself, I push myself way more even if my muscle is about to give up because there is no one around me calling me “lazy” and I can progressively overload at my own pace!!!!!!
Hey
I would like to know how the American certifications like the NSSA, ACE are compared to Germany. We have an Aand a B-Certification over there. I’m just wondering if those certifications are considered as a high level (A-License) certification.
Have a good one everybody
points very well explained… it was a must watch, glad i didn’t skipped:P
one thing as per my suggestion, you need to be in an organization where you are not the only designer. By asking seniors for help will help you grow more and look at things with a different and right perspective instead of wasting time in designing and after deployment end user tells you “i want to do this and i am confused how to do this in here”
PLEASE ALSO MAKE PODCASTS FOR GOOD AND BAD UX (with real world examples)
Thanks for such awesome video.
Thanks for the message, it’s been an amazing year listening to many of your videos & seeing how you’ve progressed. I’m working hard to put myself out there, to grow a lifestyle more fit for me. It’s good to see you’re taking the negativity as a positive, I’ve always tried to take any negative comment as fuel for my goals!!!
hey Rob, came across this video today and loved it a lot!
This really sticks with me -> Don’t compare your chapter one to someone else’s chapter 10!
Thanks for that!
I found this really helpful, I’ve just found a gym recently and had a PT approach me and tell me my form was bad. This then made me feel bad. He then talked about how it would cost 150 pounds a month. Nothing worse than trying new things out as a newbie and being told you’re doing it wrong
So there is hope to having a great body without a personal trainer. Look at him! He did that without a personal trainer
There is a reason people need long term training and accountability… beyond what you covered, as we get older we develop bad posture, muscle imbalances, have injuries and just going out and moving can be painful and those things need to be addressed. Clients are not going to have the knowledge to deal with those on their own for the most part. Most clients who are long term are over 40 or 50. The younger ones usually don’t have a lifetime of damage yet. But what the young ones do need is to be pushed and challenged in a progressive safe way. Unless they have a lot of knowledge they are not going to sit down and design a program or know where to start. Just a few tips without education is not enough. People with professional careers don’t have the time to put that much focus solely on fitness. They would rather hire an expert to get to their goals faster and more efficiently and have an appointment and input of a professional.Being a professional trainer means having a lot of passion for fitness and your own fitness goals as well. I train all ages and their goals are wide ranging. I have a coach too, no matter your level there is someone with more expertise.
CT Fletcher gave me the motivation I needed. Just listening to his videos while working out was so awesome back in the day
Really needed this today rob… I started my fitness instagram last week and some of my closest friends couldn’t be anymore hurtful and disgusted about me starting it. So glad you posted your positivity on this topic which I will just use as motivation to keep on going! Haters turn into motivators. Your the realest man on YouTube.
Why do pt stare at me at my local gym? Like dagger stares ive never talk to them.im a guy btw
My friend is a trainer and I’m thinking of having him help me because I really need to lose weight and build muscle
A lot of personal trainers here saying he’s lying bc again, this video takes clients from them once we all realize what they’re doing. But as someone who has had 5 personal trainers, a lifetime of sports coaches and STILL doesn’t know how to tweak my diet and exercise myself bc they kept me reliant on them… every word he’s saying is true. Sure there are good PTs out there, but those PTs admit there’s an issue in the profession. So that tells me all the ones in the comments here are the money hungry assholes who don’t want their potential clients to find out they’re getting screwed into being more dependent, not independent
if you could dress a bit more respectfully ppl will take you more seriously, just a suggestion
I can completely relate You’re damned if you do and damned if you don’t!! The landlord analogy… You hit it right on the head. The goal is ALWAYS to retain that client for yearrrrrrrrrrrs! I’ll tell you this, as someone who’s been a private PT for years, I’ve found myself having to be a professional business man / marketer in order to keep my PT business alive! It’s a freakin’ beast and it’s NOT for everyone. If you don’t have marketing skills you might as well turn to Ubering or flipping burgers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This video could really change someones career invaluable.
He is only charging me forty pound for 2 hours a week my home or gym or beach or park running.
I have a personal trainer 2 hours a week he works for the council.
Sorry to tell you, but the truth is you don’t love people and you are self absorbed like a a lot of PTS, wake up!
What this guy is saying is true to refer to you, and advertise yourself and social media then you are gonna go no where it’s a repeat progress
It’s a waste of money. You can provide yourself with all the knowledge that a personal trainer provides. The internet can tell you everything you want to know about nutrition and training. A personal trainer only provides short term motivation. There is no reason for people to hire personal trainers unless they are competing in sports at a competitive level. A high school kid who wants a football scholarship would benefit from a trainer or a bodybuilder who wants to take it to the next level. Then there’s actors who need to look a certain way for movies. Besides that, your average gym goer is wasting their money by paying for personal trainers that provides you with stuff you can find for free!
You are so brave to tell this. I believe you specially what i saw at my gym. Some clients with PT usually just lay down, texts, take selfies for about an hour IF their trainer is not yet done with some sessions with other clients, or they’re having a break, I mean they’re all dependent on their PT. They’re just wasting their time.
Also, PT costs $17 per hr at my gym, when your late your money is gone, but when the PT is late nothing happens.
I can’t watch this fucking video with all his huffing and puffing
Pretty much the jist of this guys life was people left him to do other shit so he said fuck it and tried to be another athlelean x YouTube personal trainer and make a lot of $$ with millions of subs be realized he fucking sucks at that too and has not uploaded a video in over a year
No offense, you haven’t ever been around a world class trainer or strength Coach to talk
You’re too much of a good person to screw ppl over lol. You should do more videos on working out. I need it. I’m so out of shape, HELP ME!!!
I’ve interviewed dozens and dozens of personal trainers. As the owner of a personal training and teaching kitchen facility since 1989 I can say that 99% of personal trainers have no idea what they are doing. The so-called “certified” ones were the worst.. My biggest problem personally was that most of MY clients stayed too long! The average client was with me 15 years. I started out WANTING SPECIFICALLY to make my wonderful clients independent and set them up in their home gym. I also owned and operated two fitness supply and commercial gym design brick and mortar businesses since 1985. Commercial gyms today SUCK in terms of equipment and lack of serious health and fitness minded people. Serious adults never go there.
Hey Rob! Dude your videos are amazing and you are super inspirational. I’ll be starting my youtube channel up in the next 2 weeks and you were a major influence in that. I wanted to ask if you will be having another creator agency event some time in end of April in throughout July? I can’t come to the one on the tenth and really wanna go lol
I would really like a personal trainer to teach me about nurtition and weight lifting. I don’t need to motivation. But, I’m tight on money and I feel like it’s so much harder to learn without that one on one.
does MacBook 12 2015 enough for designing /or IOS development?
Wow, you became a personal trainer for literally all the wrong reasons lol
This really helped me out, thanks!!! Subscribed and I know I’m late on this video Haha
CORRECT ME IF IM WRONG, SERIOUS DEBATE ABOUT BECOMING A PT IM OPEN TO QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS…
here are my concerns:
1) the clients that are not motivated enough to take their health seriously probably wont follow your plan correctly and might not get the results they desire, in return they can hold you responsible and give you bad feedback even though it is down to their lack of trying, lets face it lots of people are naturally like this who blame you for something they cant achieve just because you had input.
2) the people who really would be worth the time to train, who take their health seriously, who are motivated are more than likey not going to bother with a personal train er in the first place, like myself they are so motivated to get the job done why have a middle man?, we got internet now you can find out how to do anything if you can bothered to try find it.
3) if i become a personal trainer i truly! would want to help people by teaching them all they need to know about diet, training, benefits, how-to etc.. there will come a point where they will know all they need to know and if youre really passionate about helping them that will come sooner then later which is so ironic, eventually they will question why they are paying you when they no longer need your advice (like what was said in this video). its true though, what kind of idiot would pay some one for something they already know or can do without that person?
4) i honestly predict the only clients that would be beneficial are the ones who have high payed jobs or have extremely limited time to train, smart motivated people but simply dont have the time to look into how to get fit, due to this they would probably be looking for the best of the best most experinced PTs, so beginners probably wont get these kind of clients and lets be honest they are usually the smart switched on type people so eventually they would cut you off too when you have taught them all they need to know.
5) the current recommendations and guidelines on diet and training exercises are always outdated, the cutting edge new scientifuc breakthroughs take years to hit the main stream, so if i use the new ideas i researched about i.e what to eat and how to train because it would contradict the status quo people would more than likely reject it, for example if i told a client protein isnt that important they would think im crazy, not to mention risking losing my licence because i dont follow the “standard” FDA bullshit approved recommended healthy diet, so whats the fucking point?, its not personalised fitness at all its just passing on mainstream, misleading bullshit, or lose your qualification, like wtf is going here, corrupt.
in conclusion: so if i have to lie, mislead people and sabotage their fitness to keep them in the loop and always need my expertise whats the point in doing it in the first place?, it defies the whole objective of why i wanted to become a PT, which is to teach people how to live healthy and be fit, so keeping people in the dark would sabotage my purpose, plus i think this stuff should be free anyway so id feel get guilty or reluctant charging money for something i would happily give away for free. the types of people who would truly need my knowledge (like people who are rehabilitating from some disease) i wouldn’t be able to bring myself to charge anyway and there will probably be legal reasons as to why im jot aloud to help them. so in my opinion being a PT is not going to work for me personally. its no better than being a person who teaches someone how to ride a bike, once they got it they wont need you, so yeah fitness is staying my hobby not a career.
Do you have to go to college to become a personal trainer pls reply i would really love it
That was a great chat Rob! Would be cool to talk to you in person maybe one day!
I liked your advice at first but….I’m confused. You’re the first person I’ve ever heard say that body building is not the best for you…
Thanks for the feedback homies! If you wanna hear more of the same come along next weekend https://www.ticketweb.ie/event/the-creator-agency-summit-part-royal-dublin-society-tickets/8058495
I have an independent trainer for one reason, to push me. When I workout by myself I barely break a sweat, plus I hate not having a spotter. When I’m with my trainer, it feels like I’ve been in a physical battle afterwards.
I am just starting my career as a UI,UX designer. I am really interested in the topic as you said, and I found you guys looking for resources and learn new things. I would have just a question. How can I know what to study and where to start? I would need a very basic book or course that teach the basics of UI and UX. Any suggestions? Thank you very much!
You seem very honest & I appreciate your advice. Subscribed!
Better outlet for you but not your clients. I love my PT he saved my life. Plus I learned everything but stay with him for motivation and support.
Im going into my first summer internship as a product designer this summer. Im nervous as F**K, but this video really eased me into it.
Thank you!
Hi, I have one question!I’m 203cm tall(90kg) and I go to gym.In gym,gym workers advised me to engage personal trainer because he will give me some exercises which will enable me to do squats, dead lifts, push ups.I dont have money for personal trainer, so what can you advise me? I repeat once again, I dont have money for personal trainer. Thanks and sorry for my bad english.
Just ordered my NASM yesterday! Great video, keep up the good work.
You just don’t accept people. You must interview them first.
in my country anyone hwo gets a little big at the gym becomes pt, its hilariour rofl
what type of packages do you recommend offering for online coaching and personal training?
My work has a state of the art gym. It’s free to use. Bad thing is I have no idea where to start. I’m 38 6’3 400lbs. I need to find someone who can teach me and not overload me with info
A client reaches a point where they no longer need their trainer. Isn’t that the ultimate goal?
I became a trainer a few years ago, and I wasn’t making enough money to keep training. I was so sad that I was going to have to give it up and go back to a job in retail.
My friend told me about a personal trainer that mentored her and helper her build her business. The guy’s name is Stu and he has a website at http://www.TheSixFigureTrainer.com
He was nice enough to give me some advice on how to build my clients. I was at the wrong type of gym and I wasn’t marketing myself right. Once I switched gyms and changed the way I presented myself to potential clients, I was able to build up to about 10 full clients.
I’m at about 15 clients now, and I’ve grown my business to about $4,200 per month which is enough for me to keep training and growing my business full time.
You don’t have any credentials. You might want to spend your time learning what you are talking about
How can I break into UX design? I graduate from college with a Bachelors in Psychology. I am trying to break into this industry but there is much to learn that I’m just not sure where to start. Please help!!!
Please go back to personal training I need one and you seem so trustworthy!
That video felt like it latest 10 mins instead of 33. I feel cheated.
some people like to workout at home, some of them at the park and some of them prefer going to the gym. in my opinion, diff people diff approach. i understand what you are trying to say. but im gonna disagree with you dude. some are just to broke they can only get information from the internet and do it at home or pay entry fee at the gym. but some of people need a pt so that they dont waste their time on self learning and just go straight for the goal and tadaaa! they are in shape while still make time for their business. thats the magic when you hire someone to do something. similar to when you hire someone to edit your video or repair your phone. you get the job done more faster. rather then, find information on youtube how to edit video this and that or how to repair your camera this and that. its gonna take forever. people can do anything with their money so yeah. 150$ seems a lot to you but 150$ is so little for those have the money.
Love these type of videos! I am always looking for anything to gain knowledge and to learn
I’ve watched your video and read the comments. As a personal trainer myself (the generalist one as you describe), people come to me after they have tried many of the different options out there, (Weight Watchers, gym membership, crash diets, even putting a home gym together like you have done) and found none of them worked. I am sort of a last attempt to break through their mental barriers in an area of their lives that constantly defeats them which is Fat Loss. My role in this situation is to provide as much assistance as they need without overloading them with too much information. In my experience there is no point giving people information they haven’t asked for, they simply don’t take it in (reticular activating system in play). I think if you are working with bodybuilders, powerlifters, or aspiring athletes it makes sense to provide online training and/or educate them as much as possible as they tend to be passionate about exercise and can do the workouts with specificity, volume and intensity without you being there. This however, is not typical of the average population, who need extrinsic motivation before they gain enough confidence to go it alone with a sport, gym, increased physical activity as a part of daily lifestyle etc. I tend not to do the whole hide information game because I just come off as ingenuine, and people won’t trust me, use my personal training services or refer me to others. I think those that do this earn a decent/average wage but will never become outstanding i.e. the top 5%.
One of the most motivational videos I have ever seen thanks for the all the powerful knowledge you have to share!!
Rob can you please go on the ask Gary Vee show, that conversation would be legendary
Let’s be real. I’m a pt for a corporate gym and 80% of clients just want a friend. We’re getting paid to socialize. For the real clients, its rare to see someone who wants to progress alot and have the passion
You are a respectable honest man. Much respect. The goal of a teacher is for the student to no longer need the teacher. Thanks
I think that you need one good PT in order to UNDERSTAND what is the meaning of that job! There is sooo much more to offer as a PT to a client!!
good luck to you with that garage
This is a weird question but If you have an Injury which means you can’t work out how do you lose weight because I was told that officially I’m slightly overweight and I used to have a food problem so this is freaking me out
Oh My god
Really my mind flow out in the good sense.. when you guys research and analysis the jobs plataform.Thank you so much.. I really need this kind of information and review.
Nutrition? And meal plans… Thats out your scope. Thats why I didn’t wanna be a trainer for the longest because you can’t make meal plans and have to refer to other people..thats bs in my eyes.
Its youtube videos like these why clients gets injuries. Why a #CERTIFIED PT IS NECESSARILY: proper techniques, to create muscular balance, to help with nutrition.
How much videos you see around with people with weak posterior chains and over active anterior chains, underactive glutes? I wonder what info you were giving to your clients because if you were staying one step a head by recertifying you’d not have to worry about them leaving.
In my eyes i will to break world records snd start uploading.. so people can take me serious
I just wanted to add my 2cents from experience. Having major depressive disorder I needed the one on one attention and encouragement to jump start a lifestyle change that would combat depression. But also I’ve had trouble being self aware with my posture for example. So I found having a trainer in person correcting your form as you lift was invaluable as a beginner. But he was also good at helping me begin to observe myself in the mirror as I lifted and I gradually got better at self correcting my form. I dont feel I could of self corrected my form from day one as a true beginner to the gym if I just read info online first.
I don’t understand why people are hating on him he pretty much told you how to save money and that you can learn online… what’s so bad about that?
i love the womens more than life itself but id happily roll around nudey with that body…as long as you never tried to have a conversion with me. lol
I still don’t understand how you get people to actually pay you. I am a trainer to, but people always say they want to train with me but they don’t want to put up the money they just want me to meet with them and train them
QUESTION…Just joined an “EXCLUSIVE GYM” BOCA RATON gmail.com
Are there good courses to study when you Want to Start Business in the Fitness industry?
Im looking for being a nurse/ personal trainer/ life coaching. More school the better. She right
Can you please email me at [email protected] gmail.com im really interested in becoming a personal trainer
Hey guys, great video!! What do you think about experienced professionals starting in product/UX design? Seems like some things you pointed out about junior designers apply to most junior professionals, so experienced professionals from other areas might have a good head start.
Thanks for all your amazing content!
Hey everyone, I’m currently trying to find out how one could make the lives of fitness trainers as yours a lot
easier 😉
Which is why I have two very simple questions:
1. As a personal trainer do you sometimes struggele with getting high paying clients Online? If so, what are the 2 biggest issues you’re dealing with?
2. Regarding getting online clients, what would you wish for more than anything else? Thanks so much in advance looking forward to reading your answers!
This was great! I love how you talk about staying humble and learning throughout your whole career. I’m a junior level designer at a start up, and have recently been left as the only designer. What advice would you give to a sole designer who wants to keep learning and improving but is working by themselves?
Really appreciate the insight. Thank you & good look in your work
Great advice, always motivates me to do more and believe in myself. Epic energy as always!
Most trainers at the commercial gyms are scam artists and are sneaky in what they do
Mad love for you and what you stand for, Rob. Keep it up brother.
100. I did the same. We teach a lot and the client doesn’t need u anymore.
But don’t people hide personal trainers for THEIR specific needs? That’s why I’m thinking about hiring one. I didn’t realize I had imbalances until I meet with a PT. The goal is to make me independent, not reliant on him forever.
Very helpful video.
I would request of anyone can email me PDF metrial as notes of NASM for personal training I’ll be thankful.
Really wanna have a lifestyle like this. Cant afford protein stuff:(
I can not understand you, everything you did not like about being a personal trainner is exactly what could make u an excelent personal… educate your students… is like a teacher at school trying to keep their students stupid so they never graduate.
Awesome mate, looking forward to coming to Dublin FEB 10… however you answered my questions in this video so need to think of some new ones haha see you soon:)
Dude learn how to talk you smack every time you open your mouth
I feel kind of out of breath after watching because I don’t think you’re breathing at the right phase. =P
Anyway, I think if you’re giving too much information with your clients that’s just giving them importance, genuine concern and value they deserve. And if you’re doing that, it’s actually a good practice. That’s what I believe. Because when you’re giving value, I’m sure more clients will come. They will refer you. And it’s not really about getting them at the long-term, it’s about helping them reach their goals. And if you do that consistently aside from marketing your services, you will always have clients. 😉
Most of the gyms accept NASM or ACE. In what circumstances we should get a NSCA or a NCSF certificate? What are your thoughts about them? Thanks for the video.
Is it possible to be a online student for fitness professional trainer
The reason you failed is because you talk too much. Just guide them and COACH them. You don’t give them tips and too much knowledge because you’re just compromising your job. It’s like giving them tips on how to become a personal trainer. Be the leader and not the follower.
There is NOTHING worse or more annoying than a person that has been working out for a year or 2 and feels they have enough knowledge to properly train other people. YOU KNOW NOTHING. Also online certs are about as useless as reading a book to learn how to build a house. Not sure whats more last resort being a personal trainer or being a real estate agent lmao.
Hi! Great Video! What’s your opinion about personal trainers who are 45 and older? If someone is over 45 can he or she become a personal trainer?:) Some people are saying “age is just a number”:) By the way you are a nice looking lady:) Thanks for the video!
i want to learn a bit more about training and have all the knowledge of a personal trainer but i dont know where i should start my reaserch
Why is NASM prestigious? Someone said it and someone believed it, and the comment I don’t like those people? Really because of a certificate? Sorry little girl there are excellent trainers with lots of experience and get results without any cert just because they believe all the certs are a waste of money!!
hey I’m getting certified in couple of months.. so i need no talk about some career stuff… can i talk to you i private? Really need your help!! please response my insta id: arbaazpathan profile picture is back pose in red vests.
If you want to learn how to build your business… hands down, I recommend Stu at http://www.TheSixFigureTrainer.com. I took his e-class and he is the real deal. It’s some of the best information I’ve gotten on marketing, lead generating, how to approach new clients and how to keep clients so you don’t have a lot of turnover. He talks about getting started as a trainer at ground zero too and it would have been really helpful if I was just starting out.
Stu also has a lot of free articles that are extremely (like extremely extremely) helpful… but I would do his e-class if he still offers it.
I think the difference is being able to present a solution to the client, but also being able to support the development through designing all the use cases. Most junior designers focus too much on the design itself, therefore causing problems in the development phase. This is what I saw happening the most.
I am a product designer @Toptal, not if that matters that much.:)
tbh u r a huge inspiration!!! tnx for ur video <3 ur story kinda reminded me of myself, I'm 20 and at the beginning of personal training path. just have a question, are nasm courses and certification for the international student, too?
If you want to train clients in a gym you need a personal trainer certification at least here in Australia you can’t train people if you not a qualified PT
If you are a new trainer, I would recommend http://www.TheSixFigureTrainer.com with Stu. I found the site extremely helpful.
I actually took the e-class Stu does and it really helped me get started. One cool thing I learned was how to use 2 different maps to find high-end gyms in my area to work at and how to get an interview and get hired. Stu was really helpful and super nice. If you have a question, just email him and he’ll get back to you pretty fast.
This is awesome! I’m actually from Orlando Florida, so I’d love to meet with you once I come back, because I need more people like you in my corner! Thanks for your advice!! It’s awesome!!
This talk is a mix of Christian Guzman and Gary Vaynerchuk, love it!
I’m sure you’ve heard this, but you look and sound like Rachel McAdams! Oh and this video was sooo helpful thank you so much! ❤️
So true that we’re in an era full of possibilities and knowledge. We got all of the information we need on the internet for FREE, just need to be able to identify the bs from the real stuff. People don’t realize how fortunate they are to have access to these things and end up just wasting their time with it when it can be so helpful. Awesome seminar, very informative
What the fuck? Do PT’s in the US not require any study at all?
Step 1: Be Attractive
Step 2: Be Attractive
Step 3: Be Attractive
You guys angry at the bird? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hF_-5pZ_kxY
Just wanna say your story is inspiring!! Girl you’re doing great keep going!!
lol disliking your videos keep smacking to much hurts my ears
Wonderful and insightful video! What software do you use for your online clients? Thank you!
So much is wrong with this video… clearly the agenda is the goal of this person but he’s VERY wrong in his statements
Yeah, I think the getting certified part is really important.
Great tips! I’m in Tampa Florida about to start studying now to become a personal trainer!
I start my PT course soon I can’t wait and I live in the UK to can’t wait keep up the hard work hun
I live in Orlando and I’m thinking about becoming a personal trainer, lucky me
Really interested in becoming a personal trainer here in Henderson tx.
you are absolutely beautiful. i would love to find a redhead version of you.
I would have to strongly 100% disagree with you. I work for a University In Northern Canada. I educate my clients…because I believe our jobs as personal trainers ( CSEP CPTS) is to educate and teach our clientele to be healthy. If you are good at what you do, you will have multiple clientele knocking down your doors to train with you. You don’t have to rely on permanent clientele….PS ( I have a waiting list for people to see me ) so I’m the type that does not leave my clients in the dark. I give them a lot of information, motivation and it keeps them coming back! Cheers
Thanks, Kendall! For saying age doesn’t matter! On the flip side, I’m in my early 40’s and thinking of getting my NASM certification because I love training myself at the gym so much! Figure I can learn a thing or two, and then maybe help other women!
Thanks! This video is really informative!:) I’m thinking of going into Personal Training and these videos are really helpful! For anyone looking for more information on this, i’d recommend a video called “Personal Training Career Options (Pros and Cons)” by OriGym. It’s really in-depth and covers pretty much all your options:)
Could you look over my Instagram profile and tell me what I’m doing wrong? I’m a certified personal trainer I work at a gym in Arizona, I just haven’t been getting the clients that I want. If you could help that would be great thanks
This video is really awesome. For me as a Junior Designer I still struggle on asking the right questions, sometimes there’s a lot going on my head and I kinda mess what my original question or point is.
I just want to say I appreciate this video and content! Wont go to details but this helped me make a big life decision today.
Hi! I just recently got my NASM cert and am wanting to get started. It is going to be really rough trying to do that and a full time job. However I didn’t want to leave my job until I had a few clients. Any advice on this? Should I tough it out and juggle both jobs for a while, considering I am not sure when I’ll actually be able to afford a living as a trainer, or should I go ahead and take a leap of faith? It’s hard making decision because I am not sure how long it typically takes to build up clientele. Any advice is much appreciated, thanks
Did you have a hard time getting people to take you seriously at such a young age? I became a yoga instructor at age 17 and have been doing it for 2 years, but the number one problem I encounter is people not wanting to take me seriously due to my young age. I have been considering becoming a personal trainer, but I don’t want to encounter that issue again.
If this video has motivated you to take the career of fitness training seriously, then your first step would be to join BFY Better Fitness for You. YES! All great advice… Exceptionally wise perspective @ 30:07 when accepting criticism that reveals where you may NOT naturally be gifted. #FreakinBird
I have a problem, I’m not building any muscle mass no matter how much I train what am I doing wrong?
Hi, I’m looking for a personal trainer but I don’t know where I can find one who is right for me. Any suggestions for this? Where should I look for them?
What’s up Rob! Feeling really inspired bro, thank you so much for the help. I’m actually going through something very similar to your story you spoke of. Dropped out of college, starting a fitness course soon and o just really want to be a successful entrepreneur. I’m yet to show my parents that I can actually make money out of this. Big ups you you man, I’d really appreciate if you have any advice for me. I’m passionate about fitness but I’m overweight and I’m wanting to start a transformation and vlog it on YouTube as I progress. Any words?
Hi can you please make a video about the difference in Personal training and group work outs?
Make sure to close your mouth when doing head lifts to avoid neck strain.
Where those supposed to be tricep push downs??Where there’s supposed to be floor crunches or neck exercises
I was considering studying UX to break into a new career. Glad I watched this video.
late in the comments BUT
You confirmed gems of advice for me. “You are your own career” “You are pretty much in a place where you are paid while you figure yourself”. It helps that people also relate to this.
I’m a senior level designer. There will be times that I get burned out or frustrated. But I get back up and figure a solution to my issues with the company by asking for help, collaboration, advice and guidance from my manager, colleauges and mentors.
Being a senior, it’s not just about the design literally. You start working with complex problems involving clients, stakeholders and that you need to formulate solutions and DEFEND that by the evaluated data you gathered. You also have to be able to articulate and express your ideas as well as absorbing them from others.
To be a senior is to be someone mature and smart in handling more responsibility and complexity. Being a senior doesn’t mean you stop learning either.
You are a role model to your direct and indirect juniors.
Rob you are such an inspiration mate, people tend to forget that universities are run by private organisations who are in the business of profiting from students. Debt is at an all time high, and unemployment is all too common. Passion is something that you don’t teach you in schools, and you have motivated me not to go back to studying my Osteopathic medical degree, I am going to work hard, save money, invest wisely and grow a social media audience. You emulate everything I wanna create in this world. Any suggestions to improve my videography editing skills? Keep on smashing the industry man! Thank you for producing such high quality content. Ben
27:16 it’s funny you say that you’ve been getting in to Jordan Peterson recently. I’ve been listening to him quite a lot too, and some of how you were speaking reminded me of him.
Anyway, keep up the great work rob!
You said you don’t like “those people” who don’t get certifications? Do you feel like reading a book qualifies you more then someone who has been in a gym working out for 10+ years? Just curious because I see a lot of people who get certified and start training people but have barely even worked out themselves
Such a great video, I get you I am so not detail-oriented & at some point even was afraid to not make it in design because of the ‘pixel perfect’ but you gave me hope I can find myself in another area of design where my skills are stronger. Thanks for the video!
This content is so useful! I am about to change career to UX Design and I can’t help watching your videos. I am excited to receive my copy of the Workshopper Playbook and dive into it. Until then, I have 3 books (Sprint, Blink and Made to stick) to read, thanks to your recommendation. In the next few months I will attend a Product Design course held by my dream workplace (with a clear intention of making an impression and asking them for an internship or junior position ). You just justified my plans, so thank you guys! Also the picture at the end made me laugh so hard.. Lots of love from Hungary!
Great video thanks for being honest for anyone who gets the nasm cert 1-10 rank with no degree how likely will I get hired
The absolute man Rob! Loved your talk and learned so much. Been doing videos for a couple months now and I absolutely love it! Thanks for the motivation my man!
This is dumb
maybepointing out at this, but I loved the way the top line of the mac is perfectly alined with the table…visuallyThis is so incredibly helpful for cultivating the right mindset for growing in this field. Thank you for making this!
Hi! I’m Tania from Peru, I studied social psychology, and I’m going to study a Service Design Master next year (I’m motivated to learn the research methods in design and to know more about its tools)…while I watched this video I had this question: how professionals from different backgrounds can enter into the design word? I mean… I want to switch career kind of… and my biggest struggle right now is to find my value. Thanks a lot for your videos!
hello AJ thank you for sharing this knowledge, I am from India and right now working as a graphic designer want to switch to UX design,
I am looking some good certified course in UX design, but i didn’t found any good course in India, Please tell me any online course or any suggestion how could i learn that.:(
This was such an eye-opening video. Thanks a lot for sharing this.
I just started PTing and this was very helpful! It echoed my thoughts. Thank you
Personal trainers
Are a WASTE OF FUCKING
MONEY.
There all qweers twats…
I’m a senior graphic designer but a mid-weight UX designer who is working in a senior UX designer role on large scale website redesign and design system projects for a large company that has no UX processes and no design culture. What would be your advice on the best way to influence the design culture and implement solid UX processes so we are doing things the best way? PS: I’m super keen to do the Design Sprint Masterclass ASAP! Thanks for your content.
Nice video!
I really agree that Designers skills are related to the environment where they work. Some times a step back is needed to evolve, and is always nice to be open to criticism and to be surrounded by people better than you.
Thanks for the video!:D
Im actually trying to get into a junior position (ux designer or 3d artist yes i have good knowledge in both areas:) ) and im totally struggling with these job ads where they are looking for… hmm in german there is a word for it “eierlegende wollmilchsau”. basically a person who is 23 years old has a master degree, knows every software and has 5 years work experience:D. good to know that im not alone with it and your words really motivates me to keep going. thank you very much:)
Great video, guys! I wish there were junior UX designer roles in the San Francisco area.
I really love you guys, I learn and laugh at the same time . Also, big kudos to your video editor, I’m digging the relaxed/silly vibe of your videos.
Saludos desde México!
Hello,
I started in print and web design in 2004 then transitioned to web UI dev around 2010. I worked for an enterprise financial company for 6 years as a web designer, front end dev and accessibility SME. I then went to work for a startup for 7 months as a front end dev and designer. Now I work for a non profit as a UX designer but trying to gain a title of Sr. now for a good year. My management has praised me countless times on great work and skill and leadership I have but they shy away at paying me a decent rate or working seriously with me on getting to where I want to go. Ive tried so hard for so long but never seem to catch a break. What am I missing?:/
I am transitioning from being a janitor to being a UX/UI designer. Right now, I am just trying to get a more in-depth perspective on what my responsibilities are in the field and getting my feet wet in the programs that AJ&Smart has mentioned in their videos. I finished signing up for Sketch, Figma, Webflow, and learning HTML5, CSS3, Javascript. Thank you AJ&Smart for providing these videos and getting me inspired by working in design IT field.
Hey! What advice can you share for someone looking to progress their UX Design Career? What more would you like to know about the responsibilities / roles at Junior / Senior level?
Please share your thoughts in the comments below! ↙️

I worked on creating websites on my own for over ten years. Trying to learn it on my own and support a family was difficult for me, but I didn’t stop because I wanted to do that full time one day. Understanding my limitations and working two jobs I realized the only way I was going to create a portfolio was to put more on my plate. The best structured way to do it was go to school. Knowing my self if I put that on me I know I would push really hard to complete my classes. Going from Web Design and Development course to now Graphic Design Degree. I learned so much about me. What I can do and what I can not.
The only way I learn is by asking questions and making mistakes. With all that said I know I have a lot to learn, but I always have this thought in my head that really bothers me and I do not know why and I feel like I am just starting my career at almost 40 years old. I get age doesn’t mean to much. By going to school and I learned a lot about myself it took me on the path to UX/UI Design. I realized everyday I learned something that helps me get closer to my goal to be a UX/UI Designer. I was thinking my portfolio is holding me back because I am in the process on putting on online, but after listening to your video which was great! thank you! I think maybe because of my age and how long I been working on websites maybe I am looking for a job that has to much of a bigger role for me at the start of my career. Should I be putting Junior UX/UI Designer on my Resume? Does that help who ever is looking to automatically think..ok he still needs to learn some stuff? I can ask questions all day,so sorry for the long comments. Thanks again.

What’s your advice for older employees trying to get into UI and UX design? It seems like there are no older workers in your company. And what I mean by “older” I mean over the age of 55.
Thank you for this video! Really cool that you also mention your personal experiences when starting out till now. Helps a lot and gives a certain kind of hope haha. We’re all human after all, striving to be better!
Are you ever coming to America to host one of these seminars or class or what ever you want to call them here?
I think this video was on point with 98% of the topic. But don’t forget people don’t leave bad jobs they leave bad management. Some of the take care of yourself by finding another job sediment was starting to lean that way. Aka manager cop out.
(HEADS UP THIS IS A PARAGRAPH) hey guys im starting a marketing and design agency and we are learning from chris do (the futur), ran segall (Flux) and you guys. while we are juniors regarding design we’ve taken the time to learn strategy, discovery, team management, handling the client, dealing with objections, basically everything we conclude a senior designer would know. As the team leader ive been educating myself nonstop for the past year and a half. we’re going to use everything we’ve learned and make an attempt to scale faster from the get go. the key thing i see in juniors is the lack of knowledge regarding sales, marketing, solving the client issue, basically the bigger picture. If you understand that early on and properly educate yourself, I believe you can skip ahead.the issue lies in your amount of experience.hire people smarter than you that do have work to show, fill out your profile with practice projects, have confidence and focus on problem solving. in some cases just having the confidence leads to them never questioning your ability upfront. As long as you get results i dont see a huge difference other than pay and experience. get your first few clients and use their results in your portfolio. the other thing is juniors usually look for the job where seniors have people coming to them. having a good funnel could give a younger designer an advantage. lots of thought on this.we plan on going from US dollars)$3k to 5k to 10k to 30k+
Very helpful! I’m in such a pickle with a full time job and wanting to pursue something like this. Health, fitness, and helping others is something I’m really passionate about! Thank you for the advice!
Hey! I literally love your videos, I just started an internship in UX and UI and I am really struggling with making my designs look more appealing. What advice can you share for someone looking to improve their ui skills? Also what resources would you suggest to keep up with the latest design trends? Thank you so much!
im neither as of yet, but planning to go to junior and then senior. and continue work on my side stuff. Good video
Builds a sky scraper to the clouds,
complains about birds
……pfff…..Americans and their first world problems
Interesting video and good to hear the perspectives from the experienced designer. You guys made me embrace my junior/mid level
Worked at a startup for a couple years which gave me broad knowledge of the field. Later started at a bigger organization that wasn’t very design mature despite a force of 30+ if designer. From a organizational level I was delivering on a senior Pedigree, but through the discussion and working with more experienced colleagues, I obviously still have ways to go.
I’ve grown up as a dancer and a runner in cross country. I’ve always done sports and been active. After not doing any of that for more then a year I became pretty unhappy. I’ve also always been passionate about healthy eating too and helping others feel good about themselves. So now I’m going to major in dance in college and until school starts back up again I’m enrolled into a 3 month fitness + nutrition + wellness + business certification program with FitChicks. While training for dance in school I want to teach and personal train at a gym. I’m so excited to get started:)
You guys got yourself a new subscriber. The point when you said that you always aply on the vacancies even that you dont have all the skills they are asking and that the dream canidate is never showing up, gives me hope that i will land a job in the next few months as Junior UX designer. Thanks
Man, i;m a junior at life haha. Thanks for this video very informative!
Thank you for the video! 12:12 Can you make a video describing a difference between a good and a bad portfolio for junior UX/UI designer please?
I’m not even sure what level I’m on at this point. In my last role my boss told me I was more mid-level and she regularly worked with me on things that would move me to a senior level. Today, I’m not sure what I am to be honest, I’ve been interviewing for 6+ months with so many companies that I don’t even want to go back and count, with ZERO luck. So I’m not sure if I should move on or what, I was really enjoying Product Design, but no one has hire me. 3+ years of experience and not a thing ♂️.
Hello!
As I was watching the video, some doubts came to my mind.
I discovered UX and UI design a few month ago because I won a scholarship in a school (I did not really know what I was getting myself into). I only have an small art degree where I got to do architecture and graphic design but it was only a year.
I´m just wondering if companies are willing to hire somebody with the basics in art and a completed boot camp in UI and UX.
Is a good portfolio and motivation enough?
I would love to read experiences and opinions.
Thank you!
Very real thanks for being an awesome person Rob! Keep grinding my man.
Thank you for taking the time to explain your perspective in such detail!
Thank you for sharing your opinion on this video.
It’s helpful for my career: )
I also sharing this video to my friend.
You say that a Junior might not know all about the situation, but it’s your job as a senior to provide him with everything he needs to know. Instead you’re just wasting everyone’s time by saying “oh, you didn’t know that and that, so change it”.
And saying that a junior might come up with an excellent ui design, means that you’ve hired a Ui designer, not a ux designer. Get your hr play right.
I wouldn’t work in your company, lol.
How do I break into UX without any experience. Does anyone advise paying for an online course?
Thanks for this video! last week I just graduated and I really looking forward to call myself a senior designer. Do you guys also recommend to switch from job for more and different experience?
I’m a UX/UI Designer. Something around Middle level i think. Its hard to evaluate myself properly. Right at this moment i’m looking for a new job because i’m feeling bored at my current company and also it’s mess in terms of development processes. I’m the only designer here and i really need another designer mind around. And i want to try to focus more on UX part with research, user interviews and all this complex but interesting stuff.
But i have quite doubts. Maybe i really need to refresh my working surroundings and change the company, find some product with other designers in it. Or i should pull myself together and try to fix this situation start researching and trying new things, even if i don’t know how to do it properly without leaving.
I know i’m not alone at this))
I’m not a Junior… and I’m not a Senior.. Something in the middle.. like milf?
Hey guys! I am Max Zin from Montreal (google me to know more, low key bragging here ) Product Designer UX/UI and have only 4️⃣ years in a design career. LOOOOVE WHAT YOU GUYS DOO!!! So much awesome stuff and PRODUCT BREAKFAST CLUB PODCAST is amazing as well!
️ Need advise, please -> READ MORE
I am the only guy in the Product Management Department who does design! Dev team was in charge of design so far
So you can imagine that I am on pretty much everything starting from IA (information architecture), low to high fidelity wireframes and through to “faking” functional prototype to test with existing users to gather feedback, improve and push to Dev team.
Do you guys have any suggestions/resources on how to prioritize when jumping in on a software/web app project?
Also, I have a tendency to drift away and focus more on the UI in the beginning stages of the project. HOW DO I GET AWAY FROM THAT!?
@aj&smart Maybe Q&A Video together for Junior UX/UI designers out there based on my situation? Thank you guys for reading this far!
This is a great video, great editing (it works!) and good advice. I’m hyped!
How to get from junior UX researcher to senior UX researcher?
I’ve had friends who always wondered why I never took clients as a CPT and have caught flack for it. The keeping clients in the dark/capitalist mindset you mentioned is the reason why. I love to learn, and at the time when I started wanting to bodybuild (had 4 years background in powerlifting) I couldn’t afford a CPT so I saved up and got my certification with ISSA about 6 years ago so I could start from the ground up and create that foundational knowledge to help me in the hobby I love so much. Even though my cert is expired, I still keep up to date with published studies, current trends, keep a vast mental log of the numerous exercises/combos/routines I’ve accrued, tested and experimented with. I love to teach, and found the time crunch and the intentional with holding of information to secure return clients disingenuous and it didn’t work for me. I really enjoy dissecting a movement and explaining the benefits to someone and instilling lasting, usable information which there isn’t always time for during a paid session. I don’t just want to show someone how to do curls and cash a check, though there are clients and trainers who are perfectly content with that relationship which is totally fine. ❤️
I told the personal trainer that his jobs a joke over him talking about me to his customer due to him being jealous.
My advice is do your best on self-assessment if you want to expand your knowledge and awareness on design. Being really aware of your skills and attitudes (as well as of your weaknesses) is the hardest part of leveling up.
ps. it’s actually addressed to myself too:D
Bodybuilding is a solid cardio vascular workout? No wonder you stopped PTing. You had no idea what you were doing.
Hello guys thanks a lot for this great content, it really made me rethink about things.
Can you guys make a video for frontend developers who know how to do UI design but missing that UX part, and give some advice if they want to do all that sh*t together..so in nutshell, is it possible to do product design along side with being a developer?
I am that person that know how to design and how to develop and I want to take that to new level so I need some advice, Thanks ☺️☺️
That last comment really resonated with me: “I have struggles working on the details, so I would never be a good UI designer. Could you maybe elaborate on how you discovered that about yourself and how you dealt with that situation?
I recently became a trainer. I was hesitant to leave my job because I was afraid I wouldn’t be able to make enough money. I had a friend who was a trainer and helped me get started. He’s been a trainer for a long time and I know he makes good money… probably around $100K.
He helped guide me, and I’m so glad because I’ve been doing pretty good as a trainer and making enough money to replace my job!
He has a website for trainers. It’s http://www.TheSixFigureTrainer.com
No birds were harmed during the recording of this video…. mmm, really nigga?
I ain’t a hater I respect ur shit but the earths been around for over a billion years
HEY MAN LOVE YOUR CHANNEL AND YOUR ADVICE THANKS SO MUCH IM GOING TO SCHOOL TO BECOME PERSONAL TRAINING SO YA THANKS BRO….
The video editing is crazy lol… I’m a person who’s very easily distracted [there’s a bird right there ] This is so funny!!!!!!!!
Thanks for this great video! I’m a junior product designer but the sole designer at work. I was doing a bunch of stuff at my old job such as motion design, packaging, UI, identity, front-end development, etc. I ran into The Futur a while ago and I found out I actually had to focus on only one thing rather than a lot of things. I’m so glad I stopped learning web development and started engaging in UX. I carried out my first user interview at my new job which I learned from David Travis:) He’s course is on Udemy. We’re on the ideation phase at work now, I recently found the debates are getting worse as time goes by. So I will be trying to run a design sprint when we scale -We’re a small team, we don’t have enough people to do design sprint. I think I saw one of your comments saying not as many people can actually run the sprint, right?
Agree with the different of responsibility, and Junior designer sometimes struggles to see the big picture of the project. Great Video. Kudos!
Love your video so much!! I just have a question about how to deal with negative feedback. I’m always asked by that question and I don’t know what is the best answer.
Whatever goal, or dreams you made for yourself, I know you’ve accomplished them like holy f*ck you own yourself I’m looking up to that as I start my own personal fitness journey
Thank you so much for this video! I graduate soon so I was struggling with a lot of questions but this has clarified so much!
rob as a myprotein ambassador, what is the difference between impact whey and the whey? please explain! thanks
What if I am just trying to get into that Junior role? There was a previous video I’ve seen before about things one should do to reach out, but still doesn’t work. What other tips are there?
We should line up your online clients/subs to my clients. Then you’ll see why only the greats have coaches.
Literally love your videos, I’m starting out trying to get a UX and UI internship, and this video is literally what I needed. Thank you!
Your videos are always so educational and informative! I could watch/listen to you all day
Thanks for the video, but I believe it’s important to make a hard distinction between Junior and Senior designs. I have seen inexperience designers who are excellent and senior designer who really don’t know what they are doing. What matters is the persons to apply critical thinking. People who are unable to grasp critical thinking during younger years are often also unable to grasp it in their more mature years.
Another thing is that the UX industry adopts new approaches through word of mouth. This can sometimes be good, but other times be bad as the methods are not scientifically proven. For example, the “mobile first approach” was shown to lead to a subpar user experience by NNgroup, yet it is widespread and the go-to approach, even though the evidence is pointing in another direction.
I believe we living inside our own little bubble. We are not putting enough scrutiny to our own practices. We need to understand the limitations before we can understand the qualities of what we are doing.
Like always, you guys are the best. Very rare to have an informative video with humorous editing. Was this a live stream?
Great conversation! I have honestly felt that my “roles/titles” have always been partially ahead of my actual skill set and I have been having to play catch up my whole career. I definitely feel mid-level and I have so much more to learn.
You lost me at “I gave my client too much information” and ‘that they would know as much as you and there wont be any construction’. Sir, the point of humanity and life is to gain knowledge and share it with others. And if you feel as if your client “knows more than you” then that should be a drive to become even more knowledgeable in said topic. I think you just don’t like to grind bro. Share your knowledge. Personal trainers are always going to be on demand.
This arrived just on time. I’m starting a UX design online course in May since I believe this would help me to produce better work in general, providing a meaning to each decision and thinking every step within the process. Atm I see UX design as the strategy of brand design for example, idk if I’m right or not
