I’ve been doing sports for 4 days every week for 5 years, I’ve been eating healthy and I rarely eat any kind of snacks. I usually have 9-10 hours of sleep, I was not diagnosed with any kind of mental or physical diseases except for a minor amount of anemia and I still can’t lose weight.

So rn I’m not stressed at all, I’m sleeping a lot, and i try to drink a lot of water. I’m exercising regularly but i still cant lose weight?

Okay I need to talk about this.
I’ve been changing my lifestyle for the past 5 weeks. I’m in law school, so before I stress ate, I didn’t get enough sleep and didn’t work out at all. Now I eat clean, I dabble in carb cycling, I workout 5 to 6 times a week, and try and sleep 7,5 h every night, but I’m seeing no progress on the scale. I have on the measuring tape though, and my body is visibly changing, but I know my current weight is still unhealthy and nowhere near the range where it would be considered ideal (don’t get me wrong, in a fitness point of view, taking into account body fat percentage and bmi). I’ve been doing weekly weigh ins for the past 5 weeks and I’m literally on square 1. I don’t know what to do. I’m trying so hard and this is making it so hard mentally to keep going.

The only reason people can’t lose weight simply comes down to more calories in than calories burned. It’s as simple as that. Now you can influence the amount you eat to help reduce the calorie surplus, but for long term weight loss you will need to change your resting metabolic rate to burn more calories. This comes down to balancing hormones, avoiding certain foods and also doing the CORRECT exercise (Not lots of cardio). I can’t exactly help my stress levels I’m in year 10 and I’m already stressing about the HSC (That’s high school certificate for those who don’t know). I also can’t really sleep more because I’m at school for 6 hours then I have heaps of homework, working out, netball training, trying to spend time with friends, etc.

A lot is just getting over yourself and fixing the problem, you do have to gain a little confidence, get out there and live your life, but don’t drown your problems in food. All of those symptoms come with having a job. You can’t go without income, so cortisol will simply be a fact of life for the vast majority of people. I’ve met thin, stressed-out fellow workers, so I don’t see how cortisol is the magic bullet. But losing weight is extremely difficult for some people. Some of us must work 11sedentary hours per day or more, so we can’t spend much time in the gym, It’s not as easy to lose as you age. It’s just not that simple.

I’ve not actually cried so much due to resonating with a video so much in the 10 minutes it took to watch this. thank you for this. I am truly trying to face myself head on and I know I have a lot of problems within myself, more specifically over 8 years worth of stuff. I recently watched a video of someone opening up and she said “you dont get to this size without some trauma” and that hit me too. over the last 5 years I have tried numerous times to start my weight loss journey but I got easily disheartened or my mental health took a decline. I’ve suffered with anxiety and depression since I was 14, I am now 22 and severely overweight and yes, if I got the body i desired, I would be slightly happier BUT mentally nothing will be solved. Anyway, after 7 long years alone, last year I started to recognise I was broken, I got a work counsellor which then pushed me to go to my Doctor in September. And I’m going to be referred to my local psychiatric hospital for further diagnosis. I finally told my mum about it and shes a massive part of why I feel so trapped, she still doesn’t understand. But anyway not only am I starting my journey to confront myself or how to grieve myself but I am starting a journey to lose weight. But like I said, if I workout and eat healthy and I dont see any results,it results in me hating myself further and I don’t know if anyone else feels this way too. I’m trying my best to instead of hibernate in my bedroom all day everyday, to go for a walk everyday. to workout everyday.

I have trauma associated with working out and going to the gym. it affects a lot of my life since I’m also dysphoric.
Question: If I did HIIT (high intensity interval training) in the mornings, and did IT (intermittent fasting), and ate healthy and do good proportions of food, will i lose weight? I know you have to go in a caloric deficit to lose weight, and Im not sure how many calories I’ll burn during HIIt, but HIIT helps burn calories throughout the day.
It took me probably 10 years after gaining weight to realize I was using that weight as a coat of armor against the almost daily sexual assaults I have faced from the time I was 2 till I was 23. I am still over weight now but I’ve been on therapy for about 2 years now and I’m finally starting to make progress, I’m trying to prepare myself for when I loose weight because the last time I did a coworker of mine said Damn you’ve got a banging body and next thing I knew I’d started packing the pounds back on. I no longer need my fat to protect me from people who sexualize me but it’s really hard for me to take those next steps.

about the hydration part is really true, now i am in my journey and effort to lose weight (wish me luck!) and i try to drink 2.3 L water a day. why that number? i use hydration calculator on google that measure how much we should drink based on weight height and climate etc as well. so its been 3 days since i kept my bottle water with me all the time and i drink 2.3 L a day and more if i have workout. its been amazing, for me i really fell i no longer have craving to spicy/sweet food which i usually have.

Yup. When I was the fittest and healthiest in my life it was by accident. Swear to God. I was busy and had a social life + active hobby and enjoyed food when I felt like it! When I had tried to lose weight in the past it was coz I hated my body ect it never worked long term. Became ideal weight by accident by having a life and being content lol.
If your only hobby is watching movies and snacking every night u probably aren’t happy. Start journalling, find a active hobby that you ENJOY not for weightloss, make some friends (which might happen naturally from hobby), have some projects that you are passionate about so that your life is not about food or your looks!

I absolutely love this video, and she’s 100% right. When I was in middle school, I was battling with depression and stress. I was getting bullied a lot, and my teachers didn’t do much about it. Therefore, food became my best friend resulting in me gaining 30 plus pounds in the 7th grade. During my high school career, I was unhappy with myself because there was so much going on at the time ( Standardized tests, extracurricular activities, and family issues). However, my PE classes challenged my mindset about mental and physical health resulting in me losing 20lbs. Of course, my weight fluctuated. But now, I’m a 2nd-year college student. Because of quarantine, I was able to lose focus on my health transformation. I gave my self 7 months from January 5, 2020, to lose 40lbs and focus on my mental health more: ) And I did lose weight by gaining myself back!

Be careful, i know people who were skinny and they wanted to put on some weight, they went to doctors; got prescribed pills etc… or they bought natural herbs, grains that help in weight gain but later on it got out of hand and they became overweight. Sushi, thai food, bubble tea, etc just hit the right spot & give me temporary relief. After I get done I literally go back to feeling shitty. It’s sad & a ungoing situation. I have cut down over 3k calories (since i wasnt doin diet) and i lost noticibally however i lost that for longer than a year and now my diet got boring and once i take a single cheat day i literally bloat and it takes me over 2 weeks to lose what i gained from 1 day, im eating around 1.2k calories and it seems my body stopped losing fat at this point what should i do i have been stuck at 23% fat for over 5 months now
