I love these vegan health videos and I don’t have a problem with yoga exercises or even possibly, “yoga meditation” But according to what I have seen several times, there is a strong rejection of yoga exercises and meditation from some Christians (And may be atheists and other religions) associating them with superstition or pagan beliefs that should not be practiced. I believe meditation by itself is very healthy and should be encouraged from a health point of view, but when these things are given in a specific form that seem to some to reflect the particular interests of a religion they reject, they will tend to also reject the vegan health message if it is given together with those ideas.
We can still encourage meditation, special breathing techniques, yoga stretching and relaxation withing a vegan health message without seeming to some to infiltrate a religion that they have a hard time dealing with. I understand this may not have been the intention of those presenting and producing this video, but for your information, it will get better accepted if the health message is given neutral from the appearance of personal ideologies or beliefs.
I’ve been vegan for a year now and want to now begin to cut out processed foods and be whole food vegan
lol, I love how we’ve become a society where a sexy girl has to be put on the cover photo for clicks
Eat: fruits, vegetables, starches, whole grains, herbs, spices, mushrooms, nuts, and seeds. Avoid added oil and sugar and salt
You said 80% carbs, what about protein and fat %? 80% carbs, 10% protein, 10% fat?
I think you misunderstood my question in the live stream… even fresh sardines (not salted) are on all the high histamine lists. I dont get why because it’s normally aged food
I love how you are not completely strict and don’t treat carnivore like a religion and trash all plant foods
Good advice I think. I believe low quality animal products to still be better than what most people are eating, but from my own experience, it isn’t sustainable and you’re better off not doing a completely carnivore diet if you can’t afford to eat the highest quality animal foods. In that case, I think you’re better off eating more meat, but still eating healthy plant foods with them if you can to cover anything you might be missing or buffer out going too lopsided into whatever negatives there are in animal foods.
From personal experience, if I only eat conventional grain fed meat, low quality deli charcuterie, etc. I just don’t feel great, or nourished. I stay hungry, don’t feel like I get good digestion, and I feel better just eating an omnivorous diet in that case. I think people should strive to eat the best they can and once they know how big a difference that makes in how they feel and look; when they eat true high quality foods; they will find it natural to make that a big priority in their lives. The issue to me seems that people think they absolutely have to follow a strict one type of food diet, such as carnivore, whereas a lot of them don’t necessarily have the same health problems as you or other people with autoimmune disorders and could do very well on something more omnivorous and still healthy, and they don’t have to break the bank.
Being Vegan is no solution to world food and environmental crises. I am currently doing research on marine macroalgae (Seaweed) as an alternative protein source for humans, I think we need to look at the sea for sustainable protein needs of the rapidly growing human population. I am looking for people who are interested in similar research.
Where does the fat come from? It seems like those meals are lacking any kind of fat, which is not a sustainable diet long term.
This really resonated with me. I often try to be the perfect vegan or fully wholefood plant based….then fall off the the wagon and binge eat junk foods often at the weekend after eating well all week.
This approach is much more realistic and achievable. Thanks.
Well, not everyone will win, because the processed foods and pharmaceutical industries, will no doubt take a loss.
I really wish to manage to do that one day. I’m too weak willed, and need every little confort I can have, so animal products are a refuge. Trying to reduce them.
Rice is actuelly a highly industrial food. Check out sprouting buckwheat instead and you will feel great. Good luck, you’re on the right way:)
I am surviving with 100 dollars per month. I eat chicken legs, eggs, milk and maybe ground beef.
I’m vegan and recently just started learning about ketogenic diets. Are you familiar with Dr. Jason Fung? It sounds like many of the issues such as gaining weight back don’t occur when using intermittent fasting (not spreading out the eating throughout the day)
duuuuude how can you eat all that, i fart so bad 80 times a day
I am on a whole foods diet however worry that I’m not getting enough calories. Is this something others struggle with primarily because like me they don’t calorie count?
Were looking forward to seeing you this weekend in Portland.
Hey Frankie great video? Just a question though, would cheeses made in America but are raw, still contain viable amounts of Vitamin K2 and other vitamins/minerals? I have some cheese options in my supermarket that are a bit cheaper than the imported stuff.
So your saying Dr. Baker and Chris Bell’s diets are not sustainabl? They just eat corn fed beef and like cheese and eggs.
Alternative for sweet potato?? I hate sweet potato and pumpkin, can I eat normal potato?
Always so informative!!! Love this channel. Vegan for five years, whole foods though starting this month! I’m loving it so far, and so is my body:)
Walmart has affordable grass fed beef that is quite good. 12.50 a pound.
Day 2 going vegan…. could you please do a video on vegan and working out protein and such ..great information here thanks
I’ve been whole foods vegan for almost 29 years. My avatar is me at 61.
Never on meds, rarely ill, fit and I train regularly for over 3 years now.
Good work, Mic!
I just eat alot of whole foods (mostly fruit and veggies) and i hardly ever have junk food. I’m only 13 so I can do it an adult can lol
You make some statements about the ketogenic diet that are simply not true. 1 there is very little scientific papers about it??? Why do I have a computer full of them? Just go to and start at real experts in this matter whom have studied this kind of diet for over 20 years now like Volek and Phinney. Read their book (written for nutritionists and doctors) The Art and Science of Low Carbohydrate Living (which I take it you have done), and counter their arguments with other scientific proven arguments. Secondly you assume that a ketogenic diet is based on mainly meat. It is not. It is based on the splitting of the three macro nutrients, as you say but can be adopted into a vegetarian way as well as into a vegan (even raw) way. Dr Cousens has experience with that. You can obtain the healthy (saturated an other) fats from plants as the most fatty substances in nature are in plants like coconuts, avocados and olives, etc. You just have to supplement these diets as some essential nutrients are not available in the plant world. Again the basic argument if humans are herbivors, omnivors or carnivors is clear. Not only you have to compare the mouth and teeth of species in each group but also the basic fact that fats and proteins are called essential nutrients whereas carbs are not! Or is this a scientific mistake? About carbs like grains and specialy refined grains there is so much published by now that you only should dispute it on a scientific level. I generally like your videos but find your outspokeness a little worrying. But be more nuanced in your statements (I like in that instance Dr Peter Attia a lot). I like to finish with Volek and Phinney statement about this matters “”Let’s be honest: our choice of diet is not just a rational medical decision; it’s complicated by personal, emotional, and cultural issues. From the rational perspective, we all agree that there is no one diet that is right for everyone.””
Yes! Having our beliefs challenged is critical to personal growth and expansion. We all think we have the answers, but the chances we are correct in anything meaningful are slimmer than we would like to be true. Being open to other perspectives is where wisdom takes root.
This talk was so incredibly helpful. When I started following a Plant Based diet back in May 2012, I was so resistant to becoming “100% vegan”. Dr Lederman echoed so many of my reasons as to why. Sadly, I gave in to cravings after physical injuries and saw some of my weight come back on. I started drifting back to that SAD way of eating. Thankfully I recognized that some of the healthy habits I managed to maintain was what made me feel good. (Eating that daily salad!) So last June, I went vegan. I have lost the weight I regained and am now looking towards my goal and staying focused. Was I perfect during an October trip to Germany? No. But this was a trip to discover my ancestry. So I made a few allowances but I planned and researched ways to eat healthy (thanks to Happy Cow!)
This IS the way we were meant to eat. I only wish more doctors understood Plant Based Nutrition. Finding one is difficult here in Minnesota.
Why eat carp? They are bottomfeeders, wild or not they’re still shit meat
Part of the reason people rely too much on journalists’ interpretations of data might be because those of us without a science background do not necessarily know how to read a paper accurately. We can read the conclusions and arguments but not how those conclusions were arrived at (statistics, scientific terminology, etc.).
Not enough protein here for an athlete. Not great. Way too many carbs and glucose too. Yikes that oatmeal
That so funny, I was thinking about this today. The only consern I have is that shelfish is ‘glazed’, is it ok?
It really bugs me that your videos don’t get more views…. What’s up with the YouTube algorithm.
I would love to know your recommendations for someone who can not digest high amounts of fiber. I suffer from Hidrosadenitis suppurativa (HS) and I have taken so much antibiotics in my life, my stomach is ruined and I probably have IBD.
I am vegetarian, not a total junk food vegetarian, I have cut dairy eggs down to minimal, as in only what perhaps is in bread and pasta. So close to vegan. But I can still not eat much wholegrain foods or vast amount of veggies.
Please if possible also cover Hidrosadenitis suppurativa (HS). It is estimated 3-10% of the population suffers from this. It is exploding in numbers, I have had it since I was 15 and I am now 44, basicly no help was available earlier it so bad for overall health. One article said the life quality of people with HS is lower then people with cancer. Depression, isolation, pain, inability to move, concentrate sleep etc.
Hey Mic can you address vaccines? They aren’t vegan. If you ever have children will you give them vaccines or no? Thank you for any feedback!
The almost naked bimbo’s picture has zero to do with veganism!!!!!
LOVE THIS CHANNEL!!!
Seventh-day Adventist diet you advocate is a religion based and mostly healthy WFPB way of eating. Other Adventists lifestyle requirements such as no smoking and drinking also contribute to longevity as they prevent vascular decline that manifests as diabetes and heart disease. These two factors alone may account for the 10% longevity increase found in the Loma Linda Adventist population. It is certainly a data confounder. The low added sugar in this diet is very beneficial.
You confuse ketosis with starvation. Ketosis is simply using the fats in the body for fuel, typically this happens after a long night sleep or after any long duration exercise where glycogen has been depleted. Babies in utero are always in a ketogenic state, even if the mother is not. It is only after weaning from breast milk that they encounter the world of excessive carbohydrates and drop out of ketosis (typically <.5 mmol/L.). It is a normal condition for humans. I use ketosis for long bike rides of up to 100 miles where I start fasted and drink only water. During the course of the ride my glucose gets used up and ketosis kicks in. I will typically finish a long ride with a glucose level of 60-65 mg/dL and blood ketone level of 1-1.5 mmol/l. My wife is always in ketosis and it has saved her life. I am in and out as needed. Additionally, atherosclerosis is not caused by excess cholesterol or fats in the blood. It is caused when glucose and insulin levels are constantly too high in the vascular system leading to inflammation of the inner vessel lining. This leads to repeated micro-clotting and the buildup of cholesterol, fibrin, and calcium. It also causes retraction of the blood supply with the death of capillaries further leading to organ, joint, marrow, nerve death and more.
There is One Important thing to bring up here about the fish price! It is that the pound/kilo price we see is actually the whole fish weighted as it is with skin, head and organs intact! They weight it first, and take that price, then they filet it for you in small filets… a big fish around 3 pounds/1.5 kilo can easily come down to only 200-300 gram filet but you are still paying for the 3/1.5 pounds/kilos… I was just in the store and discussed this with them… however I did find out about her way to get fish cheap without fishing it yourself of course it is to call farmers that sell fish to dog owners… I found a farmer who sell pike for 50 cent per 2.3 ibs… is fine fish! Is from lakes up in the northern lakes of Sweden. I live in Sweden so meat and Norwegian planted fish is super expensive most of the time… dogs (pun intended) eat better than Swedish Liberals
Thanks frank I have mpd so going to the store gets confusing. And my family abandoned me as a child for being mixed race. My mom was a Gemini moon.
I reversed my type 2 diabetes on Keto. However, my doctor (Endo) advised me not to stay on Keto forever to switch over to Whole Foods based diet and I agree with her. Keto is great but I want to try a more plant-based diet and see how my A1C handles the change.
Iam a fat woman who tried eating vegan for 5 days and lost 3kg (I had some slight slip ups with sauces & eggs). I had alot of bloating but Im guessing this will get better over time. I am going to trial eating vegan 5 days a week for about three weeks before I decide to totally make the switch. I notice that I have not been craving as much junk food which is good. Iam yet to give up my beloved coconut oil. We”ll see how that goes!
This video was super awesome. Thank you for sharing. I’ve been vegan since February and loving the results.
You says med are no good l hate them to. I have Parkinsons disease have been on a plant diet for one year but no change yet so how can l get of my.. Medication?
Is it ok to eat pasta every day since it’s technically not a whole food?
is that beautiful person in your thumbnail the legendary Tia Blanco?
Its yummy if you cook the oats with the apple cooking too its so good
Im a 17 year old with most cardiovascular disease symptoms. I had warning symptoms before the numbness, chest pains, dizziness, and fatigue. Im not surprised i got it i was a dumb kid. I was smoking a lot, drinking at parties, and ate terrible and a lot. But i was really active so i thought it wouldnt effect me. I thought i was grown hanging with the older cats but thats the worse thing that could’ve happened to me. Before i was a top class athlete. I played soccer, baseball and did boxing. Dont think it wont happen to you. I am not fat just unhealthy. Im on my second week and the chest pains went away. I still get numbness and little dizziness but not as much. Stay safe and be responsible.
So would you advise we eat fish like sardines whole and not Just the fillet portions?
Yes l would love to get of..my medication l have parkinsons disease please tell what to do
75% of earnings on food?! Damn bro. I drive to farms to get my organic veggies that were picked a day and still am saving more than the super market, and thats just a “wallmart” type store, let alone the enormous amount you spend at wholefoods. I can get a lot of people to go vegan/vegetarian because I can teach them a way to eat healthy, and it costs a lot less than a standard meat eaters meal. (love the look of everything you have there though!!)
Kale is my favourite! How did you know? I am heartbroken its kind of hard to get where I live.
Have to give it to you Frank, you’ve always been about the quality of the animal foods and never compromised, gotta respect you.
Ey man, daniel here from romania, transilvania, sighișoara back where vlad the impaler(inspiration for Bromstockers dracula came from).
Firstmof all respekt for your work, ive been following you for atnleast 2\ amd a half years, thanks for all the wounderfull info, realy changed my life and gave me daa powee to do the same and showmpeople the light!
What i wanted to say is that its’s good to drink the water for the patatos, its retains a lotmof the nutrients
Olive oil is not animal source. It’s a healthy food. It’s fanatical and pin-headed to eliminate it.
Aren’t you concerned about overdosing on omega 3? I heard it’s related to skin cancer?
I advice to get some good quality food boxes so you don’t produce too much waste:)
I have been watching your videos for years. Re-watching this one now for fun. I know you’ve seen a lot of this same comment but eating Zucchini noodles is not a way to starve yourself. I like them for their flavor and texture. I get burnt out on pastas sometimes. Later on in the day I have a more calorically dense meal to make sure I’m not “starving myself” which I have never even came close to having a problem with.
After a long 6 years of waiting for a transplant my uncle finally passed away from waiting for a liver. I spent so much time trying to get his doctors here in Boston to get with the idea that when he was eating plantbased he was getting better. Then they really put their weight in and really pushed their specific diet for him then thereafter changing his health trajectory. I’ve never argued so much to his health care professionals as much as anything I’ve ever had in my life. i lost this battle with them and him. I really tried. How in the world can I get help for my parents now. I literally have no options in the east coast. This is a huge position against plantbased diet amongst almost every health care worker I’ve come in contact with. It took me soooooo long to get my wife with ms to change. And she did. We see real results. Yet her doctors do not acknowledge this. How and where do we get resources to utilize. We are looking to doctors to solve these chronic food born illnesses. Thank you for putting this information out for us.
How the hell have you got that many subs with thumbnails that ugly xD
I’ve been vegan for 3 1/2 years since I was 15. It’s veganuary 2020 and I think I’m gonna try doing a whole food vegan diet.
Nonsense, long term I’m down 82 lbs in 2019 on Keto. WFPB is fake news.
I tried strict plant based for a month and it made me sick and weak. Promoting veganism and plant based is evil. I am eating cooked and raw meat, animal fats and organs for the past one year and I never felt this good all my life even my pollen allergy is gone as every summer it was killing me but not anymore. The blue zone lona linda is only a few streets biased. The okinawan, sardinians and Mediterranean diets are 70 to 80% meat and some fruits and vegetables as side dish and they truly have long life sapn.
I have 2 questions. Please explain if you can…lectins in our food and is olive oil bad? I’m sure you both know Dr. Gundry, he recommends a liter of olive oil a week!
I am 80. Plant based. No medication. 22 BMI. Exercise every day. Still married to the love of my life. Feel great! Team Shezai knows what there are talking about.
Frankie is doing God’s work. To be a shill for Frank for a minute I would suggest people try out his meat granola whenever they can. Definitely worth the price imo
how not to fail on a plant based diet
1. step one
be biologically a hervibore
2. step two
refer to point 1.
The Alzheimer’s Solution: A Breakthrough Program to Prevent and Reverse the Symptoms of Cognitive Decline at Every AgeSep 12, 2017

Great conference. The best diet is based on plants is much healthier. Veganforlife☘Thanks VegSource
Thank you for sharing your expertise and addressing the “cognitive jujitsu” (does that aid brain health??)! So many people are starting ketogenic diets without understanding the risks. Sure, there seem to be some benefits of living in ketosis, but even keto proponents stress that long term ketosis is not sustainable or safe, it has to be cycled and balanced with fasting regimens. They also acknowledge that multivitamin supplementation (and usually fiber supplements) are necessary to avoid severe deficiency and digestive distress. Additionally, if ketosis is only maintained when 5% of calories come from carbohydrates, how are we supposed to eat vegetables, which are predominantly carbohydrate based and recommended by many keto gurus? How, then, can a ketogenic diet be promoted as something that is sustainable or practical for the average person? Especially when we have a well studied alternative that has been practiced for eons by long-lived and healthful populations around the world. Whole plant food diets offer the same benefits claimed by keto proponents (weight loss, blood sugar regulation, lowered total and LDL cholesterol, lowered triglycerides, lowered systemic inflammation, higher brain function, etc….) but without the significant risks. Thanks again for your video and book!
Thank you for what you do and for sharing your knowledge and well balanced views on brain health. There is so much misinformation out there on food. Even journals like Psychology Today seems to push biased or at least unsubstantiated views on this topic, perhaps for the attention.
You just had to put that girls butt there, you dirty dawg, you.
I eat about 80% whole food vegan and use oil occasionally. I still have a few things I’m not willing to give up, but going from fairly healthy omni diet to vegan changed my life. I have syringomyelia so I’m in constant pain, but switching to vegan Has dramatically decreased my amount of flareups and their severity. I switched for ethical reasons, but the health benefits are insane. While I don’t think going vegan is going to repair the damage to my spinal cord, I think it is helping lower the inflammation that causes even more damage.
Keep doing all the work you are doing. This kind of information changes lives!!! I’ve lost 66 pounds on a mostly Whole Foods vegan diet. But what has really impacted me is your information on how lifestyle factors play such a huge role in life extension. My 70 year old mother is moving in with me and I told her “we’ve just extended our lifespans by not living alone.” Now I need to find community groups she can join for all the cognitive benefits of socializing. I think I might even start a Facebook group to connect active seniors in my area for walks or other outings!!
Thank you so much for this video. Filled with great information.
No one’s gonna eat 2-3 pounds of mackerel, you be lucky to eat a pound at once and def not everyday
I just turned 17 and having some sort of cardiovascular disease is the best and worse thing that could’ve to me. Forst of all it stopped me from killing myself. I used to hang out with older folks going to parties and smoking a ton and drinking here and there. I ate really bad too. Greasy pizza almost everyday and atleast 2 hotdogs a week, ate a lot of chips etc. the day i decided to flip my life around was the last time i smoked. I went to the ER that day because my jeart was racing and my left arm went numb. To everyone else i looked normal but i knew something was extremely wrong. That was a little over 2 weeks ago. Since then no one has checked up in me or nothing. Realized they werent really my friends. I had mixed feeling about it but ive accepted it and am going in to better things. I know no one will read this but it’s therapeutic.
Omg you have broccoli in your garden
Slug ate all my broccoli
To be healthy you want to keep your glucose as low as possible throughout the day. That oatmeal is a recipe for disaster.
Dude canned cod liver on amazon. I got it after you did a video on it. Very delicious. I got a case of 10 for about 27 dollars. 2 dollars and some change roughly a can, for 4.5 oz cant beat that.
with potato I just steam and add avocado and mash. Sooo yum…
I have heard seafood is often mislabeled even by species. Not sure I trust it being wild caught.
nice i be on my paleo shit right now I buy organic veggies/fruits, humanely raised free range grass fed meat, wild caught fish, limited grains, no bread.
Been eating high quality foods a few years now and will never go back. I used high amounts of cannabis and was having huge memory issues at 21. Everyone said it was my cannabis use. Started eating clean foods and organic or pasture raised foods and all symptoms went away
Coming from someone who doesn’t know what the definition of a whole food is great another vegan big headed brainwashed slave
There was a study that said that eating egg plant was a big no-no. I haven’t had it since then. But I actually liked it so I was wondering if you knew anything about that.
In regards to mercury in fish, eat lower on the food chain. Smaller fish like sardines, mackerel.
A vegan since 2012, I follow some of the research (e.g Dr Valter Longo’s work at USC) dealing with cancer and how short term fasting seems promising as an adjunct to standard of care. The mechanism seems to be lower insulin (via lower glucose) and amino acids in order dampen two pathways which promote tumor growth and with the added hormetic benefit of improving the immune system. A side effect of this approach is the transient increase of ketones, which themselves have certain cell signalling properties which need to be full elucidated. So, to the extent that a “ketogenic” diet improves health may really be to lowing glucose/insulin which can be done without meat and high fats and without resorting to most of the high fat and near zero carb diets. The short term therapeutic effects can be done without making up the calorie deficit by fats. There may be cases (brain cancer) where a permanent super low carb diet with high fats will inhibit cancer growth due to helping to drive insulin to very low concentrations, but it’s not clear to me that dietary testing has been extensive enough to rule out other ways to keep insulin and glucose at exceptionally low concentration.
I am 100% WFPB, SOS, no oil, for 362 days of the year. But dammit, I have turkey on Thanksgiving (and dessert), burgers on my birthday, and whatever I want on Christmas. Then I’m right back to slamming in the veggies, beans, and starches the next day (even with the terrible digestion after eating those rich foods).
Don’t buy the most ripe banana you can find, buy the least ripe banana you can find, and wait. It will be less bruised, and you can eat it when it’s ready. Patience is a virtue.
Me and my channel have gone plant based and it’s one of the few that is 100% trying to promote absolutely good food for your body…I was always puzzled by the “health channels” that then say add cheese or milk or vegetable oil. When I do something it’s 100%.
Excellent presentation. I really like the ideas and advice on how to approach people who need to hear about this eating plan but who are resistant. Love it! I’m going to put this into practice starting now. Thank you!
You the best with these strategies for people in transition to a whole plant based foods
Yes definitely do a what you eat in a day! I have fibro as well and eat very similarly to yourself….no gluten, dairy, few high glycemic foods. I do cheat every now and then, and I notice it in my body for sure as i get more achey. I really enjoy your vlogs Emma…I can relate so much to you:)
I need to tell my story and future story of what I am going to do next (Excuse my french, U guys of the vegan world, my problem is that u never talk about crude veggies (non-cook veggies)
which is the ultimate way of going but also the hardest way of going, tonight I have taken a position on going all crude witch is the hardest decision I will ever take in my entire life or anyone can take I am a smoker of 1pack of Canadian cigarette and 1 bottle or more of red wine every day I have known about food for a very long time like 40 something years and now it is time for me to take a drastic change for my health I have done it in the past for 7 days I was 23 years of age I could not smoke because it would burn my through like crazy to die for and its not easy, when I did it I went in to an appel diet, hmm don’t like to say diet but a drastic change just to try it what a blow it gave me, the first day was ok the second day was a little ruff, the third day was crazy and I was still smoking was not drinking then but the fourth day was supper crazy I could not smoke no more it was burning like crazy u know the pipes were the food or drinks gose down was burning to die for, it is now 10: 03 pm on Thurday 31/10/2019 I will give u more input in the next coming days thank you all)
Frank! you went to MY Hmart in Hartsdale NY lol
Thats Cool!
Thank you, thank you, thank you Matt Lederman!!!!!! You understand me!!!!!! I can make positive changes without feeling guilty that I’m not eating “perfectly” 24-7!!! This is SO helpful!!!!!
This was a wonderful talk! So many great tips, and such a kind and well thought out way to get the message across. Thank you!
Matt is fixed on grains. He doesn’t know that grains are really not good for you! Even organic grains not sprayed with glyphosate is still not good for you!
Good video. Another aspect i want to throw in is waste production, which can be relevant depending on your everyday food schedule.
I’ve been trying to go l vagon for a while now thank you so much for this video I enjoyed it I think it’s going to be a lot of help thank you
During the time when more and more people in the modern western world are susceptible to health issues and where being obese is going up, many are not able to track down effective information that brings real results. Find out more, click here https://goo.gl/WVeskJ
Has to be something said about dinosaurs or I’m going to lose interest
What is the best program or book etc to help transition into a whole food plant based diet?
The lack of ethical principles this guy lacks in this talk regarding health and environment is annoying.
On our trip to Florida from Oregon, the best place to eat was Outback Steakhouse. I found out we could get a baked potato and sweet potato cooked in no oil, steamed veggies, and a salad no oil dressing. All of this for 2 people for the price of one steak dinner or less. Who’d ever thought.
thoughts on zero-carb? meat/eggs/cheese only, there seems to be a growing following of this way of eating, give it a look
Great vid Frank. I have a question. I was a bit disappointed when I moved out to the Great Lakes region and looked at how toxic the filter feeders are in the lake. Lakes are hella toxic but just curious what your opinion is on toxicity of bivalves. I’m just curious if you have specific catch locations you look for.
I also do not know what to believe with the warnings on how much to eat of fish. It feels like the nutrient benefits far outweigh the amount of contaminants but it’s hard to know. Seems like a giant conspiracy to keep us on meds in and out of the hospital and pharmacy. The only thing in the area that you can eat more than 4 times a month is smelt and herring and that’s only recommended to eat 12 times a month or less. I pretty much stick to catching those out here but the smelt don’t run in the spring the same way they used to. People used to fill up a 55 gallon drum in a few minutes by channeling them in the streams. Smoked or pressure canned smelt is frickin luxurious compared to the canned shit at the store. I did find dollar store pink salmon for 3.65 a 1 lb can and at Aldi’s for 2.95. Wild caught, water and salt. The dollar store brand I see comes from the same factory as Demmings in Seattle. It’s literally a different label for the dollar store. Tastes identical but half the price
I teach a lunchtime yoga class at work and I have more men in my class than women! It’s so great to see them progress and gain strength through yoga.
At birthdays, special occasions and visits to mom I eat whatever is given and have a good time. Nothing wrong with eating for pleasure every once in a while. More harm is caused by the negative emotions that fester than anything that the food will ever do.
One of the best talks on making changes that I have watched. Realistic and compassionate. Thank you.
What a phantastic talk and a marvelous introduction to work from understanding and from really important questions –
Well, I am sure that Dr. Lederman’s Grandma did something right to be still enjoying her life at age of 94. She deserves that piece of steak. This talk and principles are for anyone from Baby boomers to the younger generation, who grew up on too much food manufactured in the plants, rather that foods growing on plants. Such a wonderful talk and message. Kudos to Dr. Lederman for making this his mission!!
How can someone get a doctorate and still be so stupid. Canines and incisors. Nuff said
Thank you so much! This was so helpful! You’ve clarified so many of my doubts. I’ve been a vegetarian (junk food vegetarian) practically all my life. I grew up hating meat (flavour and texture) and being forced to it as a kid. Now as an adult I don’t eat meat, I have eaten meat in the past but in very small amounts. I could never develop a liking for it. I have tried to eat it, many times due to doctor’s advice. I just couldn’t do it. I don’t really like dairy, I don’t drink milk. I prepare homemade yoghurt for my boyfriend and pets, but I don’t feel motivated to eat it. The same goes for cheese. I don’t find it appealing. So I think that a vegan diet is for me, it has all the stuff I like to eat, that taste good. I’ve make my food decisions so far following my instinct. But I don’t want to be a junk food vegan. I want to eat healthier and lose weight (I have ten kilos overweight). My recent bloodwork shows that all my levels are fine. So I need to maintain my health and lose weight and be a little bit more active.
Wheat and crops are fertziled by animal products such as bone meal and blood products and fish products therefore there is no such thing as a vegan diet.. Mr trump has pulled out of the Paris climate change agreement because there is no such thing as global warming vegans made it up because they want to moan about something as usual.. there are critically vitiams and minerals deficient in a vegan diet particularly vitamins b12 vitiams d iron calcium zinc and riboflavin vegan diets can also increase the risk of vitiams a deficiency….
WOW that talk is exactly what I needed today thank you so much for posting this.. I enjoyed it so much and learned a lot, definitely will listen again:)
More people are joining the vegan cult and the strongest argument in their favour is the damage Pork from factory farms is doing to our health.
I don’t have local meat, or any stores like this. I really hate it. The only grass-fed meat I can find is the beef from walmart.
10-15$ per day? thats insane. poor omega 6 ratio? how are you even getting the RDI of omega 6 from animal foods?
Brilliant talk but you gabble, please learn to speak more deliberately, it will be even more effective.
i know someone that says she can’t eat salad. She said she ate one 17 years ago and got a Tummy ache. Lol. That’s called Fiber.
Great video! So many ethical vegans seem to forget that your average person is not going to go vegan overnight or perhaps at all because the hosility and emotional brow-beating they get from folks who believe it’s all or nothing. Most people push back against this lifestyle because of what he outlines here. I really appreciate his approach. Small incremental steps are important for true change for people entrenched in their run-around-crazy everyday life.
Your videos are amazing! All of those recipes look killer. I am on the Pure Vegetarian diet which is vegan, plus no onions or garlic which I find to be a challenge when eating out! Can you do a video on the nutritional value of Himalayan Pink Salt? I was under the impression it had a lot of great minerals for the body.
He’s actually using a lot of principles from non-violent communication here to learn how to talk to yourself in a way that allows you to observe and improve rather than judge and give up. Reminds me how I myself indeed happened to go vegan when I learned non-violent communication and it turned out that it helped me to manage my guilt over eating animals which helped me focus on how I do it rather than how bad I am for not doing it.
Even so I myself have trouble maintaining a healthy diet though veganism is very easy for me by now.
I tried the “never eat processed food again” strategy because the pleasure trap is strong for me and my digestion is sensitive to these foods but couldn’t sustain it due to the ego trap. Lately I tried to keep a calender and I have color codes green for excellent all whole foods, yellow for lightly processed and red for a day I ate something heavily processed like fried food. Then each day I decide again if today will be a green day or something else and I try to finish the month with a certain ratio of green days and then month to month I can try raising that ratio.
That way I am not threatened by never eating junk food again, I just focus on commiting to one day at a time, and strangely enough that makes it much easier to maintain the commitment, at least so far. Might end up causing problems for me but for now it’s working better.
Why cut out salt??? Theres only a small amount in my diet anyways.
Suggestions on how to feed 4 adults on 600$ a month?
I live in california and rent is outrageous so 600 dollars is all I can spend on food for 4 people.
Excellent, glad I found your channel. Our understanding evolves as we get more data. Yup. I’m subscribed.
Did you change up the NY strip pack? I has 6 steaks instead of 9 but they were huge! Just ordered the same for my parents but it’s not here yet so I can’t comment on theirs lol
Greetings from South Africa! I am today 15 days full vegan after watching Game Changers! I am feeling so good, thank you for all the information…. wish I had this decades ago!
i’ve been vegan five months and i didnt know that ive been eating whole foods vegan all this time ashsfgdj thats good i guess
Ultimately, especially in today’s processed, toxic world, what we DON’T eat is more important than what we do, but what we do can protect us or hurt us from the myriad of assaults we all experience on a daily basis 100% plant based or not isn’t the issue, that is an unhelpful distraction Eating all WHOLE plant foods and, if necessary, less than 10% organic, free range, etc, animal products is great The key is to eat MOSTLY whole plant foods, as organic as possible, and avoid processed, poisoned food-like substances
… but Mercury in fish though. Wouldn’t that be more harmful on your health than the cheap beef?
This seems to be a bit high in fibre for a “transitional” diet.
So I have been on Keto for like 2 years now, and 1 year carnivore (not eating the highest quality meat but meh) and I sadly cannot find plant food filling anymore. I mean, yes, I can chug down on whatever until my stomach is full, but I feel the lack of nutrition in them.
Seafood here in my country is expensive. Even though it’s abundant and we get it locally. Sea urchin aka Kina, is $24 for the same size punnet. Salmon here is all farmed at $34 for 2.2 pounds, mussels are $4 per 2.2 pounds however, and meat like steak/beef is $44 per 2.2 pounds… and this is all our own meat! They wonder why we are the second most fat/cancer/heart disease country in the world because everyone is buying fast food and eating cheaper prossesed meat. New Zealand. While the rest of the world eats our beef which is all grass fed beef and mutton at half the cost!
Shellfish is amazing for minerals and immunity! I love em with simple butter and pink salt.
I wonder, the deepest meaning of being vegan is not to kill any other living being on the planet, fair enough, then why not even dairy products are allowed?
If there was a healthy eating competition, I would never come down from the podium. Here’s what I eat. My breakfast is a cup of whole grain oats, soy milk powder, chia seeds, hemp seeds, pumpkin seeds, walnuts, almonds, half a Brazil nut, dark chocolate powder, cinnamon, flax seeds, honey and all mixed with green tea. I know, it’s weird. Right there I get 50% of everything I need. The rest of the day I snack on fruits, veggies, and have dinner using beans, lentils or other legumes. I cook only about twice a week. The only problem: no matter what I do, within my 2500 calorie daily nutrient targets, I overshoot my DV of many vitamins, minerals and fat. I get 300% omega 3 and 500% of vitamin A, for example. Too much fibre and my digestive system starts to suffer.
Great, highly informative vid! Waiting for Saladino to copy it
Hey mate, objectifying women while advocating animal rights is hypocritical. Do better. (Idc if she’s a vegan surferhe used her exposed body for click bait).
Me and my brother liked this guy a lot in Forks Over Knives, he’s giving off such a positive down-to-earth vibe.
I live in the UK and get told by other carnivore eaters not to eat Pacific caught fish because of the toxins. Does this matter? Sea is supposed to be very polluted around the UK.
This is the best video you’ve made in a while and the type of content I would love to see more of.
watching this as i snack on an apple and steamed japanese sweet potato.
Envious. No such markets I can find in Florida. We have a Chinese-owned market nearby but they are majority packaged goods, not so fresh vegetables and ancient frozen processed junk.
Hey frank do you think you can make a vid about digestive enzyme? Do they work and are there any health risks?
I’ve read multiple accounts of people going to butchers and asking for fat trimmings and getting them for $1/pound or even free. If I were strapped for cash, I’d do it in a heartbeat. Capitalize on the fact that ordinary people are fat-phobic and organ-phobic.
Wow, you get norwegian mackerel far cheaper than we do locally.. I really need to get out and fish them myself
Never been to a Asian Market before but this was interesting to watch. I would love to give it a try though. I just don’t know how to prepare or cook any of these seafoods. Can you please make a video in the future of how you prepare certain foods?
H-Mart also sells cheap bags of dried fish, which can be reconstituted in hot bone broth with a piece of kelp.
Need salt, oil & sugar I can avoid but salt is necessary for me.
Here in Northern VT we just bought a local grass fed beef from someone we know and it averaged out at $2.65 lb and that’s with the cut and wrap. We have our own eggs but only one local grocery store so hard to get some of the better fish products but we do what we can and I’m the only one in the family that eats a low carb diet.
uni is so good! I’ve only had it at japanese/sushi restaurants or bought it from Whole Foods in the past. I’ll have to check out asian markets. Any other uni fans here?
Ok nice! I can’t stomach all that food though.
I will just eat as much of such foods I possibly can.
I think my stomach capacity will adjust to accomodate what I require after a while. It’s difficult though, I’m used to eating until I’m full being enough.
I love this video Frank and am left wondering could you subsist on oysters, clams, mussels, and scallops and if you could wouldn’t that make you a vegan? No snark by the way I am longtime subscriber not a vegan but wondering if there could be middle ground here.
Not sure I agree with the girl on the thumbnail mate, absolutely no point except clickbait which really undermines this video’s otherwise good content.
Do you live in a mirror? Why is the book title backwards in the video?:))
Do a video on ConsciousCalisthenics, he is going carnivore and thriving!
This was a great video, I totally forget about places like this and I’m glad you reminded us. I’ve been doing this diet for about a year and I have found these meals are the most filling when you don’t want to spend much:
-4 to 5 Raw pasture raised organic egg yolks in a glass of raw cream, milk or kefir
-Scrambled eggs with raw cheese and butter
-grass fed burger patties with cheese and fermented pickles/sauerkraut
-canned wild caught tuna or salmon with mayo
-I frequently ask the butcher for grass fed beef fat trimmings and he gives them to me for free.
I find that I must have sone hormisis with some vegetables and such or when I have to I suffer.
But Yeah, Me And My partter use Eggs, Dairy And Cosher Meats(We’re Jews, But I’m the only one who cares).
The more I stray, the Worse my health is.
So it’s a delicate balance.
frank how do you know if the frozen fish is wild caught and free from additives?
I used to hate you and like VG but times change. He made you feel stupid in everything. I hated when he talked about religion and how religious people are stupid like dude just because you don’t believe in something doesn’t make it right to disrespect other people. You are much more outgoing and less sociopathic then VG. I am vegan but still respect you and enjoy your content. Your a grown man and can do whatever you want. I have no right to tell you what you can and can’t eat. VG is all or nothing and is just a prick. Not all vegans are like him. Keep up the good work frank!
I found sardines in brine for $1 at dollar tree. It wasn’t amazing quality but it was pure
What about mercury (and other seafood metals) concerns, really appreciate budget video
Just bought your cookbook & giving this a try for my health (which’s bad) & for animals because they are beautiful
Everytime I go to H-Mart, I always look at the Asian snacks you can’t find anywhere else first, LMAO!
There’s a store called aldis here in Texas and they sell wild caught salmon and cod but it’s frozen fillets, it says wild caught and it tells you where they caught it and how they did it, I wonder if it’s legit or any good quality
Could you make a video on how to cook and prepare the types of seafood you mentioned in the video?
I will have to watch this again and take notes, but I am slightly disturbed by the idea of dealing with unprocessed seafood (even though I promote it as an affordable carnivore option because I recognize its value). Frank, you should do a video in which you demonstrate how to process and prepare fish, and maybe another kind of seafood (oysters?), for people who’ve never done it before.
Not gonna lie: even though I am a lifelong coast-dweller, I have mostly eaten canned seafood. I was totally disgusted to find how much cottonseed oil is used in that stuff, so I am exceedingly careful and usually walk out of the aisle empty-handed. Cottonseed oil! Bar Harbor is a really good company-their smoked herring is magnificent. I really enjoy mackerel, too, but you have to be careful about its source. I’m not sure how safe it is to depend on even the fish with low mercury levels. http://seafood.edf.org/mackerel
No matter what you eat, it isnt going to be cheap unless its PB&J or chicken eggs. Take your pick
If you live in the Eastern or Southern United States, your woods are crawling with deer and maybe feral hogs too. Take up hunting.
Random but my dad accidentally bought organic oats and for some reason they’re much thicker and taste better I’m confused??
Eating fish everyday for the last 8 months was probably the best thing I ever did for my health.
I’ve read all the “plant based” books and yours is the best. It makes it so simple. I took the helpful to harmful foods graph and posted it in my kitchen. It makes it easy to show my kids the vast difference between fruit and fruit juice. Thank you!
Love all your videos Mic, saw you used dates as a sweetener. Have you tried monk fruit sugar, tastes like sugar and doesn’t change your blood sugar. Keep up the good work.
His grandmother is 95? Just give me whatever she’s eating:-)
Just a heads up to Frank and everyone. The beef you buy in the stores here in Canada is not the same as the feed lot beef you get in America. The beef here is grass fed, grain finished as a standard. You don’t need to source grass fed beef in Canada if you cannot afford it. The beef in the stores is much higher quality compared to beef in the US.
Thank you. It is a real challenge trying to afford healthy meat and fish on a fixed income.
Mic, I followed the instructions exactly but I keep cutting my mouth on the can lid. What am I doing wrong?
Just found out you have a YouTube channel, thanks for all these amazing knowledge!
Spanish mackerel is very high in mercury. Any mackerel from the North Atlantic is much lower in mercury and healthier for you.
A friend of mine goes scuba diving off the Maine coast for sea urchins. He and his crew take their catch to their favorite sushi restaurant and they make it into Uni for them. Very fresh, pretty cool.
It really was easy for me BUT there are side affects which I am trying my best to cure with supplements like excessive gastaking Probiotics, muscle pain ( for no apparent reason) taking iron with multivitamin and I buy these from the Dollar Tree. Helps so much!
Carnivore is not expensive. Decent ground beef is 3 dollars a pound here. Unless you’re eating 5 pounds of beef a day….
very smart, this is what I’ve been doing…if I could afford best meat I would order from you…but at this time it’s just not an option…I’ve had really good luck finding excellent seafood though, for very affordable prices…thanks kiddo
What do you think about Corexit? Used during oil spill responses and taints practically every fish in the ocean.
I had liver for the first time today after 4 years of not eating meat plus 3 years of being vegan!!!!
Gimme dat vitamin A
You talk about convincing the whole foods butcher to give you slabs of fat, organs, and fish roe for free. Can you do a video about how you approach that topic with the staff? Or your local butcher? What are the words you’d use to indicate what you want? Is it just “your leftover fat scraps”? How do you persuade them to give it to you? Do you have to haggle with them?
So in short: What do I ask for, where do I ask for it, and how do I convince them to give it to me? Thanks!
I’m watching this whilst stuffing my face with vegan, but very oily popcorn and pondering eating some Oreos:(
My biggest goal is to save the animals and the planet anyway lol.
These recipes look muy tasty though and will definitely try these.
Thank-you for visiting my channel and showing your support. I am more than happy to have visited yours too whilst in hospital and watched what it is your up to too. Much appreciation for the direction that your work / commitment is taking in sharing your perspective with the world. Its hard but its part of the process once we’ve committed to this “new normal” once you go through the process of living with a chronic condition.
I eat overnight oats for lunch every day! Favorite meal! Can’t get enough oatmeal lol
Any every day simple recipes I can make from Trader Joes foods that are cheap? I’ve gotten super super sick of just eating plan chopped broccoli/cauliflower w chopped up chicken and turkey bits. To the point where I buy them, and then just toss them because I can’t be bothered to cook them as I know I’ll just roll my eyes eating them now.
I am an all or nothing person. Healthy 81 year old vegan that has been vegetarian for 35 years then Plant based for the last 5 years No medications! My family has a history of Cancer and other problems at my age if they made it that far.
how do you stop bloating and gas? Or does your body just get used to it?
Hi my name is Guerlanda and I’m starting on my vegan journey tomorrow and if your are interested please follow me on Instagram at ” guerlanda_ “and thank you for those who follow me
How is this fish healthier and cheaper than feedlot beef? I don’t live near an ocean so seafood is kind of sketchy and expensive. Aren’t our oceans polluted that even wild caught fish and shell fish like the clams you mentioned have toxic things in them?
I found it easier to find quality meat for cheaper by not going to the supermarket. Go to the butcher.
Loved the video and all those resources at the end! I’m vegan, mostly WFPB but I need some help kicking oil and salt.
For those in a budget I suggest fasting a few days a week xD
