I get hangry when I forget to take my medication… basically I take it every morning to help me focus better, but sometimes there will be that rare occasion when I forget to take it, and since my medication also suppresses my appetite a little bit (it’s a side effect), I feel extra hangry when I don’t take it and I’m just waiting for lunchtime to come

In islam holy month of ramadan we fast 30 to 31 days straight. In london UK we eat last at 3am to 4am then fast until 8.30pm. No water is allowed during fasting.
We are allowed to eat between 8.30pm to 4am. But obviously everyone eats no more than a 1000cals. I currently eat max 800cals. So lets see at the end of the momth what happens. I can already see a big difference in my shape.

I’ve seen dozens of these videos and its always the case.
The only way I would ever be able to slip into a fast is if I’m already in a Ketotic state. There’s no way I could go from a sugar-dominant diet directly into a fast, I would feel like I’m starving to death. But when I’m a ketogenic diet, I barely think about food, and fasting happens naturally sometimes because meals get “skipped” by accident. It would be very easy to slip into a 1-3 day fast on ketosis.

I eat three times a (work)week: Mo-Wed-Fri; and only a large breakfast, nothing else. I drink water (with added salts).
On the weekends I mostly do OMAD (diners), but it is not necessary; if I get hungry I eat, eg lunch at noon and diner at 2000.
I do train on fasting days. E.g: Light cardio on tuesday 45 min run; resistance training, mostly in day with meal.

I can tell you, autophagy starts over night. My first conscious fast, water only was 16 hours, skin cleared, psorisis, flaky scalp, dry skin healed. Then did 18 and 24 and 30. Feel so much better during a fast.

Overeating protein can throw a person out of nutritional ketosis. Stop with the “it may not be for you”……Humans have fasted for centuries. I thought this video would be about “fat” and fasting. It was a general how to fast and did not touch on fats much at all. Thanks for the “general fasting presentation”. It helps to have a little common sense when it comes to fasting or not fasting, children, pregnant mothers, people on meds with problems that need supervision. But, just normal folk should have very little problem going without a couple meals. So please, just a little common sense will suffice.

I must be getting old. I have been fasting about once a month for the last 18 months for 3-4 days. I am still figuring things out. This person has fasted once and she is lecturing/ writing books. To anyone on 3 day plus fasting, be careful to modulate your water intake. Taking too much is worse than too little as it flushes out salts which aren’t easily replaced.

Another explanation might be that Anger is a response, in a general sense, to not having your needs met, so being angry when you’re hungry isn’t that far away
I’m into day four total fasting, nothing but water, feel amassing, but there will be s period of detox starting the second day that will last into the third day. A lot of sweating and “the runs”. This is the body getting rid of toxins. a little tiredness the third day also, and into the fourth day. No hunger after the 3rd day also. Hunger cravings didn’t last long when they did occur. When they hit I would just just think on something else. Just like I did when I quit smoking. The cravings will not get any worse as the hours pass. As you push away the craving, when they do come, busy yourself with something. Never let the thought that half a sandwich couldn’t hurt, because it will take you right back to “square one”. As I sit and write this, I have absolutely no hunger in the evening on day four, and I feel energetic and alert. I have noticed a couple of significant positive effects. Can breath much better and deeper. I am calmer, though, the 2nd day I was moody, but didn’t last long. I’m less tense and nervous feeling. Water still goes through the system rapidly, even at day four. This was intended to be a 5 day fast, but considering extending it to 10 days….. if I keep showing positive signs like I have already seen. I was intermittent fasting with one meal a day before I started this fast, and my reason was for the possible health benefits, which has been a success. I am still astonished at how much better I can breath, I have COPD and had difficulty taking a deep breath, but now I can take, slow deep, effortless breaths, and no spasms. These results are not the “placebo effect”. And the calmness and clear headedness either. Its been a blessing so far for me.
Hi, some clarification needed. Long term fasting not for type A personalities? what does long term refer to, lengthy duration of a fast, or intermittent fasting of 18 hrs for years on end?
At 16min 14 sec. The bottom line for the total fasting time doesn’t calabrat correctly. At 60 hrs, total,…. its 68 hrs when you look at the daily hrs….. something is wrong
iam fasting since 5years, maybe more. most of the time i was eating complete shit (mcD and stuff). i would go to mcD once per day and only eat once per day. fasting 23.5h/day.
i cant say it changes anything in my psychology or behaviour when i stopped that pattern and ate multiple times a day.
what changed my behaviour tho, was a change in my diet (away from the carbs to a keto diet). what happend then is incredbile and iam not skilled enough to put this experience in a view sentence. if you have a week off or so, try it out. stop eating carbs all together and see what it does to you. the first 3 days will be shitty tho. enjoy ^^

Weight loss is all about calorie deficit! Fasting is NOT magic or something that will give you an advantage when it comes to weight loss! If you don’t understand it go and educate yourself more on this topic… However, fasting can be a good thing for other reasons such as hormonal release…..

I predict that Asian cultures would not be as Hangry on your scale since they don’t eat lots of Empty carbs like the Standard American Diet (SAD) folks. Not to demean Americans, but their diet sucks for the most part and this is a result of the food and healthcare industry maintaining the status quo in the US at the present time. There’s talk that this could change dramatically in the next ten years as the system might collapse and may only be saved by preventive and curative medicine currently being used in other cultures. Other cultures are well practiced to reverse type two diabetes through time restricted eating, fasting, and a proper nutritious diet. 2/3rds of Americans are obese and about 60% of them will develop diabetes which will be a tremendous cost on the US economy competing with Defense and other obligations. Boy, they (the ‘experts’) make this complicated. Sure you need to learn a bit about fasting and intermittent fasting ‘mimicking fasting’ and their benefits, but really, simply try things on and see what suits you. I just eat, generally, within a 6 to 8 hour window (trying for the 6 hrs most days). Then simply throw in the odd 1 day, 2 day or 3 day full fast…or even the occasional 5 day Longo fast. But, again, all this obsessive concern over technical details. For God’s sakes…
if you just completed your first three day fast, it’s a tad premature to be lecturing as an expert on fasting

I’ll parrot so many of the comments and say this was informative and presented well. My primary care physician introduced me to IF. Have been doing a week and feel so good. First few days were tough because of my love (addiction) for carbs. But, once that monkey got off my back, almost instantly felt more alive and alert. Next step is a 24 hour, followed by longer periods. Each day I awaken knowing my liver and pancreas, as well as the rest of my body, are saying “Thank you.”

Loved the presentation… Fasting became a thought for me back in the “80’s when I read a book, “Fit for Life” by Harvey and Marilyn Diamond backed the science of Natural Hygiene by Dr Hebert Sheldon. Even though the practice of fasting is biblical we have gotten away from what is best for the body… I love carbs and now at 61 and overweight have to make the positive change to reduce the carbs and I fast 16-18 each day and eat a salad at lunch and a low carb dinner for dinner… again I greatly enjoyed your presentation…

Let’s start with one thing. Governments are not allowing and punishing farmers, and other food producers if they produce too much.
Now if we have such huge production of food, why is it so expensive?
Yea here is your answer, governments not allowing us to use the additional production that goes above set regulations. Farmers are throwing away food sometimes to not get financial fines.
All the products that we make, which go over governmental regulations is literally thrown away or reused in some way, but they are not going for sale.
If that wouldn’t happen, things like milk, vegetables and fruits would be twice as cheap as they are rn.
Now if we could get nice fruits and vegetables for the prices lover than the prices of junk food, what would you people do? I would obviously stack load myself with fruits and veggies. What happens when people start eating healthier? They tend to get sick less. Think a little, it’s all fucking organized.

My answer is no. My sister had bbq today had tiny plates. I asked if this were the smallest plates she had. In conclusion I had to take two trips to grill to grab a hotdog at a time and one trip to grab mac n cheese. Normally would of grabbed one dog and serving mac and cheese

I fast 20/4 with 4 being in the evening at 4pm. Enjoying everything organic full fat and veggies to dark chocolate. Ido drink 3 liters throughout the day with 1 liter of hot tea in the morning. I am feeling better now than I did when I was in my 40ties.

What actually works is eating slower and in less quantity. Just control yourself until you’re used to eating small quantities.
I would be so pissed if I found out that someone RIGGED my bowl. Only because when I eat, I compete with the person I’m eating with, regardless of whether they know about the competition or not.

Ultimate Goal to die in my sleep, yup! As the Creator made me..Last time i did a 3day fast i was 100% a vegetarian and by day 2 i craved nuts; and avocados without them my mind started thinking very negative thoughts like the kind one has when they are anorexia. that was in 2012 at 45 now in 2019 now 53 starting LCHF and considering doing it again but starting slowly.
Tried 100g of carbs a day for a month, I just felt like crap all the time. Switched to 24hr fast twice a week and the odd 16:8 and eat normally the rest. Loving my potatoes and rye bread and beer and I’m losing weight. Low carb sucks.

This is not an experiment. The control was someone who clearly weighed about 20-30 pounds less, therefore less energy req. and less appetite.
I think it is about balance. Is it easier to eat cows or grains? I believe convenience came into the grain use. But having a nice bowl of cereal rich on fibre sometimes if proven to be good for you. But maybe not everyday. Maybe it’s a once a week thing. And fasting is recommended especially in communion..meat may be tied to carnality…so eating only a strong fibre bread and drinking some wine or water is a good spiritual idea during a time of reflection

I’d be very curious what the results would be from the studies if the subjects were on ketogenic diets. Hunger is minimized and not nearly so overwhelming emotionally on a keto diet. So I have a sneaking suspicion it wouldn’t be nearly as bad.

I’ve just started intermittent fasting but its toughest at night before I go to bed. In fact, I had to eat some peanuts to get through my first night. I also cannot drink any stimulants like coffee because it stops me from sleeping. So I can’t drink coffee, tea, and nights are tough. What can I do?

I started with keto to become fat adapted having a month to ramp up to low carb high fat. Went keto for 2 months and I hit my weight target and blood tests were spot on (but I’m a hyper responder). To maintain in the past 6 months, I have been doing IF (16:8 or 18:6) and LCHF with carbs between 15gm to 75gms. This works great for me. I don’t miss breakfast. Not counting calories makes it easy. Keto is too strict for my lifestyle. I can tell when I’m in keto when my mouth feels funny. But quality food is important and lots of veggies. I think for those that just want to be healthy and not go low carb high fat, they can get healthy eating whole foods cooked at home, avoiding any added sugar and sugary foods, and IF. This is especially true for kids who will not be keto or low carb high fat compliant.
23:1 almost every day! Lots of organic meats, Irish butter, whole cheeses with a smidgen of kale/broccoli sprouts/avocado. Lots of pink salt and very low carb. Best I’ve felt in years! Hopefully will keep me on the mountain bike too.
I challenge him to the sound blast test. I am a 62 YO aerospace engineer and will come fasted for 4 days with a BG level probably in the mid 60s. However my ketone level will be around 3. My reactions will blow away any sugar burning college student or the prof himself.

Self control has its limits when a person is continuously marginalized and disrespected through their life. Anger turns to depression because you have no power to change things, along with malnutrition (very common in USA) which makes control harder. Alcohol anyone? Self medication and all its problems. People snap and kill others because if the build up of various negative occurrences. Eating wisely, supplementing with minerals and vitamins has made all the difference.

The fact that “an hungry brain is a violent brain” was discovered in Oxford in 2002 and 2007 by researchers used men in jail: 2 groups one with placebo one with vitamins & minerals daily.
After 6 weeks men in the second group had not been fichtjing while with placebo had demolished furniture as usual!
As all humans, no scientist knows everything! Wheat, and most likely all other grains and grain like seeds, cut blood flow to the frontal cortex of the brain so recommending to eat whole grains doesn’t help! Gluten and other grain proteins are extremely damaging to the brain and gut! Humans can’t digest them. Be well!

Not sure if there are studies on it but I’ve also seen/experienced a kind of extra aggression surrounding hunger that springs from insecurity about actually getting food at all…it’s apparently a thing. If you seriously went hungry as a kid, it’s a very real thing.
(I’m not talking about “go to bed without dinner” here, which should be obvious; I’m talking “I have had one hot dog in the last two days” levels of going without, which sadly a LOT of kids suffer through at least once and a whole lot of adults suffer through even as I’m typing this.)
And I would very much agree that the “lizard brain” strongly affects the reaction.
Fortunately if you know you might get like this, you can at least try to curb the reaction and get that snack before dinner!

I tried fasting and after only two days I was very light headed and shaky. I could not keep my balance at all so I had to eat and broke the fast.

I say hanger comes from a primal need to eat. If you’re more aggressive, you’re more likely to get that meal. Or fight off the bully ape not letting you get the mangos from the tree….. just a thought

I am glad he addressed feeding the brain with healthy food instead of sugar. I spent the majority of this talk thinking the results were probably a result of the temporary sugar high people experience. But improving anger through sugar intake is not sustainable. I think a similar study that involves calorie restriction might be interesting. One group that can eat all they want, the other with a calorie limit and neither group is allowed to eat sugary + processed foods.
I’m not gonna eat for as long as I can, I’d like to think making myself hungry makes me lose a little more weight, so I normally force myself to watch people eat ( it’s weird, but it’s like they’re eating FOR me, so I don’t have to.)

I notice in the beginning of hangry, we do become easy to get upset and angry. But if you let the fasting continue in to 24 hours or 48 hours, the opposite begin to happen. When our digestion completely shut down and our body switching the fuel from glucose to ketone. Our brain go into a special super mode with super alertness and our IQ increase. Those intense alertness are design to make us survive in extreme condition. I hope to do some test during those super alert mode. I believe we become more compassion, and tolerance during those state of consciousness. I experience it first hand.

I went OFF last night cuz i was hungry lol,and i had to show this to my husband to prove it wasnt my fault.
When you are feeling bad, it is good to use the acronym HALT, which stands for something, but at least the word works, too. Stop and think if there is a physiological reason that you feel bad. Hunger, Appetite, Lonely, Tired/Toilet. Did you forget to take your meds? Do you tend to have emotional reactions with your menstrual cycle?
I find that even if I can’t fix the problem, I still feel much better, because I don’t have to also worry that something is wrong and I’m going to feel this way forever.
This also works the opposite way! Sometimes I am feeling bad physically, like a stomachache, and I can use that to deduce that I am having an emotional reaction to something, and then act accordingly.
I have found that I make a similar mistake when I have a low-level headache. A full-on headache doesn’t have the same effect.
Ah, so this is why chubby people are often softies and funny.
I eat once a day and always have. I don’t eat 3 hours before bed. I am still quite solid because my metabolism is slower. If you eat three times a day you will have a faster metabolism. Weight gain is all hormone imbalance in both sexes. Eat food to balance the hormones and you will tone and loose weight. Remember some people tone but loose no weight and that is normal too. We are all different.

I like to go to a pumpkin festival every year, and I’ve started bringing stuff to eat because I realized that, almost like clockwork, my mood would seriously tank a few hours in. Just simple, drink a glass of water before you eat. You’ll see. Sjeez this insane need for diets, just eat healthy. Diets do not work as they are always temporarily, as soon as the diet is over you gain the same amount or even more as the body always look for an equilibrium it had before the diet. Unless you change your lifestyle dieting will always be an uphill battle.

Well I experience this in a more extreme way, if I eat carbs especially if they are liquid a few hours later I get light headed I start trembling and sweating, my blood sugar it is so low that my adrenal glands have to kick in to save me and use the stored glucose in the liver so my brain can be fed with enough glucose so I don’t die?maybe…..IT IS QUITE FUN EXPERIENCE
