The Clean Label Project is a nonprofit group created to inform consumers and raise awareness about what food companies are up to. They say they “look beyond the products’ marketing” to determine if foods geared towards small children, like infant formula, are in fact safe for tiny bodies to consume. They also evaluate pet food.Clean Label Project is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization run by a small staff and assisted by a board of directors and a Medical Advisory Board.
We are also mothers, fathers, pet lovers, consumers and agents of change concerned about the industrial and environmental contaminants in consumer products. The Clean Label Project (CLP) is a non-profit founded on the principle that you deserve to know exactly what is in the food you eat as well as the products you put on your skin. As both a health educator and a consumer, I completely agree – and as the project gains momentum and customers vote with their dollars, it will hopefully push the food industry towards cleaner products and.Between this and making sure that we keep it clean by constantly following up with the Clean Label Project, I feel like I’ve got things covered day to day – in the health department, at least. The Clean Label Project is honestly your secret weapon of education as a parent.
It’s a nonprofit organization that’s focused on health transparency in consumer product labeling. What You Need to Know About Clean Labels Q: What makes a food product ‘clean label’ and what is this trend doing to our global food industry? A: You have likely already heard of the term ‘clean label’, the latest marketing buzzwords in the food industry.
Apparently, Clean Label Project’s first study, published in July 2017, dealt exclusively with pet food. The idea was the same as the infant formula and baby food study: take products off the shelf, test them for a variety of substances, and report the findings in what they feel to be a public-friendly way.90% of our clothes are thrown away long before they need to be, due to our culture of ‘fast fashion’ and outdated laundry habits. It’s time for a change. To prolong the lives of our garments and respect the environment, partners from the fashion and appliance industry joined forces to launch the Care Label Project and introduce a new notion in fabric care: ‘Don’t Overwash’.
The Clean Label Project conveniently leaves out that acrylamide forms when asparagine, a naturally-occurring amino acid, synthesized by both plants and the human body, and critical in the building.Clean Label Project started by analyzing baby food, since that is a segment that both consumers and manufacturers want to be as pure as possible. To.Essentially, clean label means making a product using as few ingredients as possible, and making sure those ingredients are items that consumers recognize and think of as wholesome—ingredients that consumers might use at home.Clean Label Project™ completed a variety of studies over the past few years looking at the true contents of America’s best-selling pets foods.
We examined the levels of heavy metals, bisphenols, pesticide residues and other contaminants linked to cancer in over 1,000 best-selling pet food products from 80 brands.First, the study was to expose popular pet food brands and their recipes that contain high levels of environmental toxins and secondly, to provide nutrition label transparency. Admittedly, Jackie said she realized that for the nutrition analysis the Clean Label.Clean Label means straight talking.
One of the views of clean enthusiasts is this: if an ingredient can’t be pronounced, it shouldn’t be in food. Clean Label wants ingredients to be simple and natural: things the public can recognize and understand. For instance, it’s fine when our bread contains wheat, flour, and yeast.
The Clean Label Project was established to understand better all of the ingredients found in the food we are eating. Led by Doug Porter, this non-profit organization aims to test different food items for the presence of harmful substances in the hopes of providing cleaner food supply to consumers. In the food world, a clean label focuses on having fewer ingredients that are very clear about their origins, and recognizable (e.g., “cream” versus “microparticulated whey protein concentrate,”.

I wonder if this could be due to the fact that there aren’t really too high of protein levels in these plant based protein sources in the first place so they may be having to do something during the production to beef up protein content that’s exposing the mixtures to such harmful ingredients?
Hello! First, thank you for all your awesome informative videos! I’ve learned a ton!!! I have 2 questions— after seeing this video I looked up your formula recommendations on the CLP website, and both have a 1:/ Do you still recommend those? I’m worried they may be one of the ones with particularly high lead or arsenic. Do you have new recommendations, or still feel comfortable with the gerber and enfamil? Second, my daughter is 5 mos and on Baby’s only. She has really struggled with constipation lately, which is why I wanted to switch. Since she’s 5 months, would you recommend going with the gerber or enfamil, or jumping to the 6 month formula recommendations? I have no idea if lactose is the issue, but I do think she’s having a hard time digesting the baby’s only (whey) for whatever reason. Thank you again so much, you rock!
Wow, I really appreciate the amount of work you clearly put into getting this info out to us. Thank you so much!
I love and am confident with the whey & pea protein powders I use…not on the list!
You use to have a top 5 & worst 5 protein powder listed on your website, but have taken that portion down. Why?
Good quality protein has small crystals. Because every supplement of this type undergoes chemical processing, called microfiltration and microcrystallization. no matter how the raw material is stored, crystals that attract each other are visible. The producers of all suplos do it once and once. It is the usual saving for the producer
-If there are no crystals then the treatment did not take place, the more fillers the cycle and stage of the treatment will not take place, and thus it is inferior in quality and worse absorbed by the body.
15 hundred years of observation and only a few manufacturers that go for quality and not for the quantity of product sold.
There were more positive types, now there are typy2 types of producers and sometimes new ones enter the market sometimes better sometimes worse.
This is absurd. Their website doesn’t list any details of the study. Their “White Papers” are just pamphlets with out real data.
They have many 5-stars on Optimum Nutrition which seems ressonable to me. (Not all flavours tho). Useful anyways
I looked on your website for the actual analytic results figures, but could not find that document.
Question. I reviewed the results on your website, and the rating system is non-informative. No one wants to see a star rating, we want to see the actual numbers. Without the actual number shown and explained, it looks like fear mongering. There are detectable levels of arsenic, lead, and mercury in just about everything we eat. Most people do not know this, but any and all food contains arsenic, anything that comes in contact with water or soil. Should people be afraid to eat all foods? Display the information in a way that actually integrates the raw data and with the rating, and explains the levels and weather or not those levels are significant. Otherwise it looks like fear mongering propaganda.
Thanks you for providing this info. Definitely changing my protein powder.
Clean label project uses disinformation strategies to promoting fear, uncertainty and doubt. Funded by corporations need to gain market share.
Brand A has X,Y, and Z and is dangerous. Brand B is safe. Brand B also pays Clean Label to spread this misinformation.

Thank you Clean Label Project. As a Natural Bodybuilder for years I tried to warn young start ups to stay away from the Crap on the shelves in Bodybuilding stores or health stores and buy stuff that was more Healthy. Your tests have proven that that approach was the better approach, and even though some of those healthy brands also contained metals & contaminants they were at far lesser doses than the others. Now, we get to see which ones are the better. I used your information of Collagen to recommend a product for a friend. I hope to continue using your site to weed out products, vitamins, foods, supplements, and other things that are not as “Pure” as they appear. Thanks.
So what protein powders are the best?what are the worst?
Hope yoh guys can answer
(My choice is ON Gold Standard whey protien and nitro tech)
Are they good?
Wow, I can’t believe you have so few subs.
This was eye opening.
Yeah, I read on a website that Orgain was very toxic and that is what I’ve been using for close to 3 years now. I just checked that website. I see that arsenic mercury it gets a two star and for cadmium lead it gets 1 star. Everything else is good. That sucks. I’ve gained all the weight that I wanted too and have gotten great results muscle wise. I’m a just stop taking the powder and focus just on diet alone from now on. Thanks.
What vegan protein powder would you consider least harmful? I do like incorporating protein powder in my diet but after all these videos and research I’m losing hope on there being at least one plant based protein powder that isn’t bad. Hopefully you can reply to this, thanks!

Hi Bridget. I supplement my 2mo old with formula every once in a while. I will be returning to work soon and may need to supplement a little more, the days I do work I will be working 12hr shifts. It appears that Nature’s One Baby’s Only Dairy Organic Whey Protein got the high standard in this study. I would love to see you review it!:) also it says on the label toddler formula, does this mean I can or can’t use it yet??
That dude was totally staring at that lady’s tits in the beginning
