What is the best thing to eat before exercising for energy and endurance? You need quality carbs, lean protein, heart healthy fats, and fluids. Your muscles rely on carbohydrate foods like.Ideally, a person should eat a meal rich in complex carbohydrates and protein around 2–3 hours before exercising.

I can’t believe I just watched a video that I kind of already knew the answer to.
Basically, eating before helps with longer duration, which makes sense cuz your body can only take so much of those stored fatty acids before running into overdrive.

Your body uses the stored energy even if you eat before exercise. It takes a couple of hours for your body to digest and process what you have put into it. So therefore it has no effect on anything. Eat or not, there is no difference.
But if you don’t eat for a long duration and exercise, then it could have negative side effects on your body.
I would recommend eating before or right after an exercise. Prolonged fasting & exercise together can be damaging to your health.

I really like the videos Brett makes! I learned a long time ago, that protein builds muscle tissue. So u have to think about your body as a very complicated scientific experiment. Complex carbs/ fast burning, that give you energy during your workout. Then slow burning after your workout, along with a heavy amount of protein, (recommended 1 gram per pond of bodyweight throughout the course of your day) After your workout you want the body focusing on burning the carbs, and utilize the protein to sustain muscle density, if not inhibit muscle growth. If you run out of carbs to burn after your workout, your body will burn your protein. If you run out of protein, your body will cannibalize your muscle tissue, as well result in other negative effects. A protein shake or protein supplement is most beneficial in any diet ”after” your workout, because it is packed with things your body will dispose of if you overload without many adverse effects.

I never eat before morning workouts. It does nothing but delay my workout because I feel too full to work out. After get up I drink a glas mineral water, work out, take a shower. Then I eat a bowl of oatflakes with weigh powder and soy milk, I eat a banana, an orange, a cooked egg and a teaspoon peanut butter.. afterwards I take 5 grams MSM and 750mg OPC with two glasses of water.

Eating before workouts can potentially spike insulin which fucks growth hormone in the ass completely.
Eating directly after working out does exactly the same thing.
Working out stimulates growth hormone. Give it time to do its job.

One question though because I used to always drink BC AAs in the morning before and during my workout. I pretty much always train fasted. And I occasionally do intermittent fast. From the research and I was doing I was seeing that BC AAs can actually cause a slight insulin response and might Negate the fasting. Have you seen any studies that have shown anything like that? Wasnt there just a study done the other month about BCA being a waste of money because of HOW MUCH you actually have to take for it to work……. I cant remember the exact number, but in order to actually see results from it, its almost 50 servings of the recommended dose on all the products. Unless I am mistaking BCA with something simlar

Good advice, probably i should eat a lite breakfast as recommended rather than skipped the breakfast as usual before my morning workout.
Very interesting, taking some supplements like 10 grams of BCAA (branched chain amino acid) which can’t be produced by your body, and must be obtained from food is a clever idea to burn fat. Also prolonging your fast shifting the breakfast meal from say 8 am to 10:30 am is obviously the way to go for losing weight. Both ideas are very good habits for me to incorporate.

Found ur site thru Carli, luv her. I am a personal trainer as well & just thought I’d add in a VERY IMPORTANT factor that you left out. Personally this is something I can’t overlook. Potassium immediately after your workout. Obviously during your workout your heart rate is high & in that fat burning zone & or just working out puts strain on your heart muscle. (I have an implanted heart defibrillator due to genetic heart disease) & when your heart uses its potassium to keep up in your workouts, you must must replace it. When I have a lack of potassium I will go into cardiac arrest & soooooooo many people over look that or don’t have the knowledge about the way the heart works during exercise & the proper nutrients to maintain your health. Just a quick add on:)

How exactly can you know when your body has digested your food? What signs can you check for? Is it a feeling in your gut? Do mean ‘digest’ as a euphemism for going to the bathroom because of the meal?

Real food is king, not chemicals. There shouldn’t be an issue with eating an actual meal to start off day and workout an hour later.
yeah good info, i kinda learned you need to eat enough before going to the gym.
I only ate like one slice of bread witha yoghurt before i went.
But now im gonna eat 3scrambled eggs, maybe some tuna with mayonaise. And some slices of bread/ Oakmeal stuf.
I hope that will improve my gains a litle. But ive only been training 2 months now, so i don’t think you need to expect to much out of that amount of time annyway. ( i refuse to use protain powder)

I do jump rope for an hour at the gym! But I find it easy to work out on an empty stomach! Is that healthy? Should I always eat? Bc is a lot of jumping I don’t like the heartburns I get. So on day I jump rope I try only to have a good breadfast and that’s it.
