Wild Rice True wild rice, which is actually an aquatic grass, is one of the oldest foods native to North America. Instead, my Omni Diet is similar to what wild apes eat. Seventy percent of your food should come from whole plants such as freshly-prepared vegetables, vegetable juice, a little fruit, nuts, and seeds. Inedible foods in the wilderness doesn’t get as much attention. And not only inedible “foods,” but plants, fish and mammals that are actually dangerous to consume.
So naturally, you’d probably guess that when asked this question ‘should I eat when I’m not hungry’ my answer would be “nowait to eat until you’re feeling hungry!” While this may be the case for most situations (day to day listening to your body), the real question I want to address in this post is what you should do when you. What should keep you from eating it is the ethical controversy surrounding how palm oil is collected. Too much food can lead to health problems and uneaten leftovers. Ducks do not chew. No matter what foods you provide, only offer foods in bite-sized pieces that the birds can easily consume without choking or struggling.

I got reminded when I jumped in to nettles and was stung lots
Thank you for the time and dedication to teach others about these skills
Thanks for sharing all this, your knowledge is testimony to the land’s offerings.
I did have a little difficultly however, with the speed of presentation and clarity issues.
I live in the Mojave Desert…. I guess I’ll have to die of starvation
The unmatured nuts are the best ones! You have to take off the transparent peel off the nuts, because it is the thing that makes then so bitter, after that you are left with a white fleshy super tasty baby nut!
Spring Came So I Am Downloading Vids To Get Into Wild With My Knife (i am bringing only knife)
I’ve been known as the man with the hand of the helpful hardware man… I’ve got tons(not tons, but maybe 50 lbs of Lambs Quarters in my yard. After learning of the vitamin b-12 in the pole of the plant, I found out that the plant actually tastes good & is good for me… so I purposefully don’t cut my grass.
I wonder what my neighbours would think if they found me eating flowers, leaves and roots behind their house, I could ask if they have any dressing to go with my meal.
Always wanted to know what them massive leaves were. Burdock. Thanks for this mate. Great video.
primrose leaves look like sorrel… I’m growing a huge chia shrub, which is related to mint, apparently.
I tricked a friend once to pick up a nettle, I told him if you grabbed the top most leaf you get good luck, like a 4 leaf clover.
I have came across some large Blue Berry Bush look alike yesterday but it does not have a crater at the bottom as a normal plus cutting it in it is green jelly colour where as blue berries are dark blue to purple in side. I can’t identify this Berry but it grows in abundance near where I live and would like to use utilities them if possible.
Elderberries should always be cooked to kill off the glycosides. Never eat raw elderberries.
This is the only 30 minute video with no ads in the middle thumbs up to u
Suck a good video!
I often reference you vid after book to make sure sure!
As much as I love my boyfriend. Yes Iam going to say it. He’s a jack shit boyfriend when it comes to knowledge of any plants or gardening. I came from families of gardening and living off the land. As a child Growing up in a jungle ( Thailand) you have to have some knowledge of plants and survival skills. Now I am living in all places a dry hot Arizona . Trying to grow anything is not impossible but a hard task keeping anything green. specially in the 110 degrees summer. Somehow I managed to have a little mini jungle of my own in my backyard. Not even going to mention how much my water bills are. Thanks for sharing your skill and knowledge. I enjoy watching your videos.
I love your voice! It’s so gentle and soothing..even while talking about things that may potentially kill us lol
THE FRUIT IN THE THUMBNAIL WITH THE LEAVES! THANK YOU SO MUCH. WE HAVE THOSE IN MY BACKYARD, NOBODY KNEW WHAT THEY WERE CALLED!
Rob, come to Puerto Rico and teach us of the local plants here!!
Please advise as to your other platforms. Your analysis is on target. I would like to be able to contact you directly, if possible. Cheers!
Thanks so much Alfie, that was a BRILLIANT, concise and very informative explanation bless you!
How you living? I’ve been eating pine needles ever since the Wuhan Wiggle.
You can also eat the flowers of white and purple clover, they are sweet.
Very insightful, thank you. So many plants I wasn’t familiar with then again, studying plants is a life long mission!
There is no way that one carbohydrate will have more calories than another. Same weight = 4 calories per gram. All carbohydrates have 4 calories per gram!!! All. No exceptions. Unless the plant is an avocado or a pine nut where one gets FAT at 9 calories.
Protein is 4 calories per GRAM. Carbohydrates are 4 calories per gram. Fat a whopping 9 calories per gram and alcohol 7 calories per gram.
interesting points,if anyone else wants to discover
longest lasting foods survival
try Franaar Spies Control Formula (do a google search )? Ive heard some great things about it and my cousin got great results with it.
My hunger is getting so bad where I am about to go outside and find these because all we have is unappetizing out-dated soup:C
The other day I was harvesting cat tail stalks. The young shoots are great in stir fry and soups. My little sister eats them raw but I don’t care for them much that way.
I also have purple and yellow mustard plants that I like to eat.
As well as most things on this list.
Dad keeps telling me to weed my garden but it’s growing exactly what I want. (Except maybe it has too much burdock?)
Edit: Other honorable mentions are wood sorrel (with a gentle lemony flavor) and prickly lettuce (which is bitter like a dandy lion but is very easy to mask when cooked)
Got inspired and almost poisoned myself by eating ragwort that I misremembered as ragweed. Good times.
Holy hell! So Elderberries are both amazing, and insanely deadly x.x You can either make them food, or one of the deadliest poison ever.
buttercups are fine
Undertale: THATS WHAT THE GAME IS ALL ABOUT IDIOT!
Good video! Just an fyi but boiling quickly destroys vitamin C (which is why canned fruits/veg have little to no vitamin C). Under normal circumstances that may not be a problem but in a longer term survival situation it is something to keep in mind.
How would you clean these flowers without losing nutrients assuming bugs and other things have been on them?
The piff? Now Iwant to go to the woods right off to see if I can eye any of these, and try them out. I live in Washington State but I know many of these grow here as well.
Dang, had I known this I wouldn’t have made several species in my garden extinct
Wow so great to know this weeds in my yard can be eaten too. Thanks for sharing what is good to eat. I don’t have to go buy my greens anymore.
Yep you can die if you dont eat in 3 days yep tooootly will die like every one ho lasted 2 weeks mearakls yes godlike on touchable
Heart shaped cloves.sour grass spade shaped leaves. Two that taste ok in USA and wild grapes
33:25 Are acorns edible? Raw acorns contain tannins which can be toxic to humans and cause an unpleasant bitter taste…. But by leaching acorns to remove the tannin, they can be made safe for human consumption
My Mother used to Say, Weed Never Dies. They Survive almost Any Weather Conditions, and this is easy Free Food that Could Save Your Life. Also in Some Countries, they Deep Fry insects for Protein, which is Also in Abundance and is Considered Better Protein.
I could listen to this guy all day. So smart and funny, the ideal foraging teacher. Where’s he gone? Anyone know?
I live in Jacksonville Arkansas for over two decades and I’ve never seen the those pink flowers grow in or around the 3 leaf clovers. Infact my backyard is full of 3 clovers and not a single Pink flower has ever popped up. Really curious as to why that is.? Btw Subbed&Liked
….not forgetting here…salt is a mineral in raw form..from nature..and sugar in its raw form is from cane..(again from nature!) Just cultivation processes.!
Well if there is any situation we struck anywhere, i will follow the law “the law of ocean”.
Mother nature is so cruel when it comes to punish.
Alfie. Hello there. Delighted to find a forager not in the state’s for once. I had no idea primroses or fire-weed are good to eat. Having lived off grid in many parts of the U.K. for months to almost a year twice, I’ve had much time to amuse myself foraging and learning especially mushrooms, acorns and pine nuts. You are filling in my gaps of knowledge brilliantly. I used dandylion flowers in honey this year which is steeping away in the pantry as I type. As a cautionary note to other enthusiasts ; despite repeated attempts over many years, I’ve NEVER enjoyed dandelion root whether as food or beverage. It is defo an aquired taste that I personally avoid anyone expecting a nice coffee is in for a “bitter” surprise. I find the flavour sooo pungent it stays with me for hours and overwhelms everything else. The nutritional info is particularly useful. Great job mate. Subscribed. All the best. Adam.
Watching for the quick get away due to the unseen bug that requires an untested Vaccine 2020
Great video but could do with more focus on the names of the plants =) Otherwise loved it!
my grandma had a crab apple tree in her yard and i would always eat those things but you said they’re literally inedibly bitter, am i broken or something
I don’t know what hawthorn berries you’ve eaten, but I’ve tried many in the UK and they have a bland unappetising taste in my experience. There are American and Asian species that are more appealing.
You are so much full of crap I don’t know where to start with
For the thistle, I have seen lots of these but I have also seen some without flowers are they still edible
Great video…… Love the commentary I’m heading out to eat!!!!
Wow great, very interesting and informative, I want to try for survive in the wild
I started plants, and i copied one of his suggestion how to plants.and now it all worth it.pls visit my channel guys to see
great vid, but hey, Wildlife and Countryside Act, pick but don’t dig!!
To check if a fruit/plant is poisonous you shoud cut it and put it in contact with your skin for a while
If your skin doesn’t react to it at all then you can be pretty sure that it isn’t poisonous
Also, from what Ive seen things with thorns arent poisonous
At least a bunch of them
I don’t know the real name for it, but we used to eat a lot of Sweet Clover. It has a sweet and kind of tangy flavor. It is not a ground cover like clover, but is usually about 6 to 8 inches tall with multiple branches and leaves like 3 leaf clover.
Can you do more videos like this please I and many others love this thanks
John, I like the video and information however you are not always clear or direct enough on naming the plants. I think this could be an area of improvement thats all. Thanks.
I eat wild greens from my yard along with air fried onions and herbed potatoes. After heavy rain it was lovely to find a new ingredient strawberry clover.
In austria you can find a lot of edible Plants. We got a lot of edible mushrooms, berries etc.
This is very good. It’d been nice to have a field trip with this and more. An around the year trip should be taken.
Here you go if you have no idea about what plants to eat..How many trees are poison? There is trees you can eat And drink clean water from.. Birch thin inner bark raw But better cooked…Spring time with a slight V cut gives water if you know how to squeeze in a wood chip as a spout And something under it to catch water..Maple in the winter……Spruce needles for add vitamins as a tea However slight. If i was transported into the UK I would not be able to have a long term survival skill Maybe little more than 3 to 4 weeks..But its the UK lol i’m sure i would find a house before that lol Most of Europe fits in my province
I would probably accidentally poison myself
Even if the plants arent poisonous
You should have done: Survive for a week in the forest eating only plants and insects from the forest relying only on universal edibility test for eatability identification. Documenting the slight poisoning effects from those deadly plants would have given so much excitement and subscribers.
Usually spikey plants are gaurding edible fruit. Which is their defensive measure not poison. Innocent looking Mushrooms, and leafy plants are almost always poison.
I mean you could eat those mushrooms… Just don’t think you should.
The 2 main set backs to finding wild edible plants is invasive plants that choke them out, and cities that choke them out. The cities being the worsts because where they are yoy are guaranteed to find lots of herbicides and pesticides anywhere you do find wild edible plants.
Just remember not to be offended by the pesticides and herbicides, their intention isn’t to poison you, its to poison honey bees.
its not hard to find food in the forest its just hard trying to stay alive after eating some random plant/mushroom/anything in the forest you found
I would have a hard time KNOWING IF some of these are REALLY what I THINK they are, except for Purslane, chickweed, Dandelion, and Lambs Quarters. I would likely only know that a plant is “dock” after it becomes old and NOT so palatable. I’ve seen some “mallow” looking weeds in my yard, BUT, they do NOT get those nice big flowers like this video shows, so, I am wondering IF I am seeing actual “mallow’ in my yard, I am NOT sure enough now to eat the stuff. I THINK I have “Lambs quarters” BUT, I am kinda afraid to eat it, and it is likely NOT so good after it gets more mature. The “dock” I’ve seen growing wild was NOT very young and tender after I actually noticed it anyway.
This brings back childhood memory’s when you use to just pick up and eat this long yellow flower stem type of sour thing, the days
There’s probably some poor sap stuck in the woods right now eating a bunch of fungi and sh*t.
Weeds are amazing for health purposes but it’s not really doable to use them as survival food
They are too low on calories to be useful for survival
I will resort to them as a last chance
I have a garden where i grow fruit trees and vegetables
Planing to plant more trees in the future
You know I realized that if someone was stranded or lost somewhere in the wilderness, this could be great for
survival tips.
Undertale Fans when he picked up the buttercups: Wait Wait wait-
10:40 kinda sick to see you use another skill to assist you when your practicing anthor skill
By sick I mean good
Is it strange that my family grows wild mint in our garden? If it pops up we just let it grow and we really only weed if it starts to take over.
I remember I used to forage with my friends back when I was in elementary school when I got too hungry to wait for lunch lol. We generally stuck to eating wood sorrel and onion grass tho.
It’s 3 weeks for hunger, not 3 days. That’s 3 days for dehydration.
I have most of these in my vegetable beds. I love wild violets best, though:)
I have amaranth too, yum.
I have gardened 60 years, but the last ten years I have shifted to natives. So nutritious. So rewarding. So delicious.
2:02 did this dude just find shrooms???? Just like that yet I try so hard
This guy made a four course meal and he did it in 10 minutes
so i guess the game “banished” was right: you can get a lot of food from foraging. i always thought the food count was too high, guess i was wrong.
I cringed so much when I saw him grab the nettle because I’ve dealt with stinging nettle a lot, and the stem is the issue while I’ve eaten the leaves I picked off the plant moments before. Doesn’t taste good, but I did it
I’ve long known this. In light of apparent food insecurities, figured it was a good time to get better educated.’
ah yes never forget you trustly pan when you go out to the forest
This doesnt smell like food, smells like plants
I didn’t know that, thank you
You should be more concerned about water. The saying goes: ” 3 minutes without air, 3 days without water and 3 months without food.
3 days for a fish isnt bad with primitive tools.. takes like 3 weeks w/o food to perish
Dont Ever Tell Me About Being On Land Legally If Im Hungry Are We Clear Boy….Now Carry on Son…
Never pick the ones where the flower is bloomed. They are bitter. Italians who pick a lot of dandelions for years never pick the ones with flowers.
Specialists watching him do dumb things but wanting to see what will happen: [quietly] noo don’t do that
I recently discovered Mallow as an edible. It’s been growin here and getting pulled as a weed for going on 35 years. I was going to weed the patches last night and decided to check my weed ID first. Turns out..after eating 30 raw Mallow leaves last night…I have a bumper ‘weed’ edible crop
Hello (this was a test, I changed my name and profile picture) wait why is it my old profile pic?
I tried the elephant ear stalk and it tastes like sour cream and onion chips:/
asking for a friend how easy is it to find psycedelic mushrooms in the uk
This Is tradicion in czech rebublic whrn we go to forest and finding mushrooms then we make it edible
Every one in czech rebublic do that
you learning kinds of mushrooms that are edible and kinds that are not from your young age
Acorns here in California must be smashed, ground, boiled thoroughly, water poured off,& boiled again. Then it can be eaten, or dried and stored for acorn flour pancakes etc later. No acorns here can be eaten raw.
All these are available at my home Srinagar jammu and Kashmir india

I could watch someone forage any day, it’s kind of pleasing, somehow
Do you sell seed? I am very interested in Seminole pumpkin and wild yam.
Abundant..? Dude have you seen the Raspberries here? They are EVERYWHERE HERE!!!
I think I’m going to try to preserve some for the winter. Awesome video.
My bet is raspberry, the stems are super light n the leaves look fuller
I actually found out u can eat dandelions from the Hunger Game series
yummy.just wanna eat right now! I make similar style content so i knows what you feel when you film it! Hope you see my channel guys!
https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=1593290714045630&set=pcb.1593295017378533&type=3&theater this is July 25-17 does anyone know what kind of mushroom’s these are they come up wild in my garden I put horse manure in it recently and was hand removing these mushroom popping out I was removing them for the first few days but these gotten the upper hand to many to remove now are they common in pa? That’s where I am at, they are that are ribbed on top & bottom lighter beige whitish on top then underside darker beige anyone know what type of these mushroom are?
Just here in case the world ends and I have to survive off of that.
Stinging nettle is also a great helper to prevend your veggies from vine louse aka aphid. They prefer high nutrition plants and choose the nettle. I’ll plant it in my garden for this reason and to get tea from it.
The leaves from a blackberry are edible too. They’re rich in vitamin c and also a medicine because they’re anti-inflammatory.
Oh! Watching you wander around, plucking and chewing all manner of botanica, reminds me of my childhood in South San Francisco, CA. I learned purely through childlore about plants were edible. Kids are willing to try so much. To eat weird things. Especially things that grow wild. There was a hanging blossom we’d pluck, pick off the petals, and suck out what we believed to be nectar. There was sour grass, dunno what it was called. Did have a bloom but I don’t believe it was dandelion. Long, dark green, sturdy stem we’d pick, pop off the flower, and chew on the grass, puckering our cheeks. Millennials had Sour Patch Kids. We had grass in the side yard.
Dandelion tea tastes awful without sweetener but cleanses your liver out good of any toxins. The only catch is that it will have you going to the bathroom to pee frequently. Doesn’t help if you are trying to run and hide from zombies. LOL
Spanish needle is also good also known as bidens pelosa or bidens Alba,it is a natural antibiotic and fights resperatory illnesses.
Great video! Raspberries have smooth canes while blackberries have ridged or fluted canes.
Anyone got any tips on how you can disappear in this bloody country (England)? I’m pretty much done with society and systems and, if it turns out that refusing a vaccine means I’ll have no choice, I’d need to find somewhere I can escape to (rural) and stand half a chance. I’ve got what I need to try and survive for a bit in (a grab bag)but it seems it’s a case of location, location, location. I’ve watched shit loads of videos about wild camping, stealth camping, survival tips etc but it seems that every inch of this poxy land is privately owned and you can’t get more than five miles from a road. I don’t often envy Americans but if I lived there, I would’ve been off by now, rattlesnakes, cougars and bears or not. Any tips would be much appreciated.
Great surprize that it is possible to eat raw nettles great Channel and it would be very helpfull if you made a written list of the foods you mention because I could then find out what there names are in Danish when I do not know them
why were you travelling mid may? among the lockdown that was still happening.
I actually made icecream with wood sorrel in it in school once. Super tasty, tarte and sweet.
This video focuses on foraging plants that are available in the US. To forage in the Middle East, go to: http://www.pennilessparenting.com/search?q=foraging
Just don’t confuse young wild onion with young false hellebores which is very toxic
Awesome video! I’ve been teaching my not yet two year old grandson to forage in his backyard.
Can you make a video on what should be eaten in the wilderness
Sustainable living https://www.facebook.com/109418280802947/posts/114349690309806/?vh=e&d=n feel free to reach out
The secondly is a kind of vegetable which we are used to getting in our meal in viet nam. It is of a medicine and good for health. Sorry if my english does not catch your brain
Worth being aware of the risk of liver fluke when eating raw water cress!
Hello Rob! A big hello from Bremen(Germany). We are new subscribers and enjoy your videos with my hubby our four kids
If you step by from Germany you are very welcome by our home ☺️
Thank you for your inspiration and all the valuable stuff that you share.
Excellent video, you are second to none, if come back USA, I will take class under you
Rob, all the plants you shared to us, we saw it as weeds here in the philippines I didn’t know that it could be use in salad
Here in Northeast Florida around all the ponds you will find blackberries. There is no poisonous plant that resembles a blackberry plant, so forge away! Oh, and these will be the sweetest blackberries you have ever tasted.
I am growing broad leaf plantain (Plantago major) in a pot here in my home in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. I found it growing by the roadside, I picked it and planted in a pot. There are more of them in the mountains in Malaysia, I found them growing wild abundantly in Cameron Highlands which is Malaysia’s premier mountain resort. The leaves have anti-nicotine substances, so for people trying to quit smoking, I was told from what I read that chewing the leaves can kill nicotine craving..in US they have commercially manufactured anti-nicotine pills from this plant..
If in so cal please show me natural edibles I’d greatly appreciate it
Hi Rob, is it possible for you to compile a list of food with pictures that can be forage in the wild? So people around the world can use your list and start learning more about the plantation in our own country.
I just “found” sorrel growing in my garden. For years I just thought it was a weed. Thank you for the education.
I always taught this in my class in biology, if there was a way to get it approved part of my submitted curriculum planning, and it was challenging because parents want things they think are important for kids becoming future millionaire surgeons, etc…
I wouldn’t suggest newbie eating these. Better safe than sorry by eating something poisonous or harmful.
thank you Rob for your teachings, i harvested lots of wild garlic/ ransom, in german: bärlauch (bearsleek). in august ill dig out some ransom onions also edible.
lots of hugs from switzerland/ cross, cow, milk, chocolatecountry.
these are all nice and common plants, but they provide negligable calorific value.
Plot twist: the forager dude just said that some of the plants are toxic and went home eating them
You should check out Yes Theory! They would love to do a collaboration with you!
Do you have any hobbies that do not correlate directly to your lifestyle? Or when chatting with a buddy over dinner, how do you relate to their interests instead of just yours? Sports, film, cars, art etc
Is dandelion a family of Arugula? Rocket leaves? They got same leaves yeah?
I’m 60 now but I grew up in a rural area of central Wisconsin (and have retired near that area now). At the edge of the small farm I grew up on in the tree line were a few crab apple trees on the woods line. My Mom used to take the crab apples and can the apples whole skin and all. They were small enough to just pop in your mouth and eat that way. Of course if one didn’t like the skin, which would slide off like a blanched peach or tomato skin, you could just spit it and the seeds out. As I recall she used very little sugar in the canning process but they were still very delicious and a bit tart.
Dang, hard to say with that blackberry/raspberry… We’ve got both growing here and so I’m leaning towards blackberry, but it has slightly different growth patterns than the ones here at Permaculture Northeast in PA
tips: don’t eat something unless you’re 100% sure. not even a little piece.
don’t take more than you need (taking 1/3 is a good rule of thumb) leave some for animals and so that it can regrow next year
don’t forage next to busy roads/polluted areas or dangerous environments
Hi Rob, can you please tell me where to find above the knee shorts like the ones you wear? I’ve been looking for shorts like that in stores but all I find is huge basketball ones…
I wish I could eat random greens. I can barely tolerate baby spinach raw.
Great video! Back in early April during the worst of the CV Lockdown, I ran out of fresh vegetables but was able to forage dandelions and chickweed growing in my tiny backyard.
Yo, be sure to do your own research and look at multiple trusted sources, better safe than sorry.
Any recommendations on foraging books with good illustrations
I think I’ll spend that nine hours building traps. I’d much rather eat rabbit and squirrel, anyway.
Rob your way of life is the best for mandkind
This summer i Will try To do the same in a eastern country
I Will do vegetables, fruits, and 40 chicken because i like them
Good luck Rob, your a good man
A very clever man,an exemple for me simple life minimalist life is God gift and Jesus way of life
NATURE AND EARTH IS THE BEST
I love this series about edible plants. I’ve never seen any yams in Europe that I’ve seen Rob digging out of the ground truly abundantly. Does anyone know if they grow in Europe as well? I live in Cambodia now and I can’t move my body because of a health condition but watching Rob’s videos I get inspired to look forward to a better life where abundance is key and love is the verb.
Dandelion is perfect to make a vegan omelette with chickpea flour and spring onions which you can also find growing everywhere. If you make bread, my suggestion is to make a sandwich with the above mentioned omelette, add a few slices of tomatoes, it’s a perfect meal when you are outdoor a lot. Dandelion is good for your liver and you can eat the flowers as well.
Stinging nettles are my favourite, very rich in iron. Just boil some water and put them in for 30 seconds, after that they won’t sting any longer. When I was in Italy, I used to cook “risotto alle ortiche” (ortiche = stinging nettles) which is a traditional delicious dish in the mountains in Italy. Rob, alternatively, if you are still foraging, eat them as spinach, they are absolutely delicious!
the earth is enough for a mans needs but not for a mans greed
Try using ur platform for the black lives matter movement it’s everyone’s fight
Big shout out from Aussie land.. I think they just opened a branch of Future Forage in UK. Big here in Australia. Its like a volunteer based initiative that plants fruit and nut trees on neglected public land, for future foraging… The trees are basically free of charge and come from cuttings taken from heavy cropper trees (in the local area). The funding comes from selling some of these trees to local residence in spring/summer season…. Don’t know the site for it. Just google the word FutureForage UK 😉 BTW: woodlands.co.uk is awesome…. keep up the good work you guys!!!!!
way cool big fan of your page three months ago i was 160 iam now happy and helthy i now weigh 110 or 117 plant based. i realy look up to your page and work i also like treadmill tv.
Plantain is so convenient. Whenever i get stung its always nearby. I even used it to suck out the venom from a black widow bite.
Thanks to you, Rob, I’m always looking around me when I walk and showing gratitude to the earth!
Miam I love it thank you
Come visit my channel make delicious Arabic food ❤️
You are an idiot, the wild black berries in EU is not common at all. They have very specific soil requirements to grow, + that thing you showed us is nothing compared that the real ones can be. “Normal” black berries bushes attract TONS of bees and they are actually very passive/friendly. Plants can take HUGE space, impassable. Resistant to almost anything. Unkillable. So don’t showoff whit that “nothing” and don’t talk garbage.
this would help if one day I have to land on planet “earth”.
can anyone tell me the name of the plant that she shows at 20 sec?
You should probably pick up a book and educate yourself before you go sticking random plants in your mouth. This is potentially extremely dangerous! Some of the most toxic plants will pass this “test” and then your dead.
OK, so let me get this straight. Ultimately what ur saying is eat it and if u don’t is the only real tell tell sign? I know this is a rediculous example, but I can douch a gun and not die or kill anyone unless I pull the trigger. Im awfully sure there’s plants that show no harm done unless it’s digested. B real.
One time me and my boy escaped from a juvenile detention center located on what used to be a lake, but what was now a desert. We stole a guard’s truck and drove it as far as we could until we got to this mountain that we climbed up. My boy got dehydrated and almost died but we found a little oasis with a bunch of onions. Then it started to rain here for the first time in forever and the juvie center got shut down by the government and then we found this treasure chest in a hole with a bunch of deadly lizards. Man it was wild.
.
and generally avoid milky sap plants.
good luck out there not chewing for 15 minutes.
Raspberry stalks aren’t prickly, blackberries stalks are very prickly ✌️
Or…. There is a book… It’s not big, doesn’t take up much room, and it’s cheap…. Jussayin.
I actually was thinking about this the other day. Thank you Rated Red
I had the majority of them but my narcissist neighbours and the council and the girls college across the road from me poisoned 1st their properties on windy days thus poisoning my whole property including me because my heart raced 1000 times faster, breathless, very serious headaches and very serious nausea for 12 hours every time they did it for 33 years! and the idiot neighbour got cancer because that’s what that weed killer poison has been proven to cause. It’s been banned in Austria, France, Germany and certain states of America since 2019. It’s a multi billion dollar industry that’s why they don’t want to ban it and hid the truth that it causes cancer and death. So Please, Please, Please don’t poison it if you hate it hire a digger to take away the grass and weeds idiot neighbour did when he pulled his house down but then poisoned mine but now my roses, lavender, vegetables, herbs and trees and lawn have got the poison on them you can see it their leaves are dead from the inside
Really good review, I wish I could identify wild edibles like that, have a good day.
AlfieAesthetics you are amazing! Thank you! For this wonderful presentation, on wild edible survival foods. Yum!
That white man’s print or whatever is edible and them strings are used by opium smokers as burner
Its embarrassing that knowing what is edible doesn’t just come instinctively. Or maybe it does but a human’s ability to use their instincts has interference from their natural stupidity. Who really knows?
“6 Edible weeds”
Doesn’t show frogleaf in the video WHEN ITS IN THE HECKING THUMBNAIL!!!!!
My grandmother has primrose in her back yard now I wanna try some
Apparently the weed we’ve been trying to get rid of is burdock.
My stove was already broken, and my microwave just broke. I think I’ll learn to forage.
Could you please tell us which climate you are in, so I can compare it with mine and see if I will find similar plants where I live?
lot of really cool information,,and how to make the most of what grows around you,,,thanks for sharing
0:33 “Foliage, fungi, flowers and fruit.” 😉 Joking aside, no landowner is going to miss the things that you listed here; you’re doing them a favour, (as long as dogs are controlled, crops and wildlife aren’t disturbed and you clean up after yourself.)
I made drink a gallon of coffee a day I absolutely have never enjoyed the flavor of coffee I want the caffeine what Wilderness plants have some sort of stimulant in them for that morning tea pick me up
seriously make a digging stick that way no need to dull your knife digging with it
MY FORAGING SKILLS ARE WAY MORE SUPERIOR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Good tips but can’t really see to identify the plants properly or hear descriptions very well
The “white man’s footprint” is in every North American yard I’ve ever set foot in! Nice video.
My place got many dandelions and lambs quarters growing everywhere. We also have common mallow and many others.
I eat crab apples from a local forest, I think they taste very good. They might not be crab apples, but they’re a type of apple and taste very good when they’re ripe and red.
0:05 Does anyone know what animal/pokemon that floating thing is? Thank you.
Great video, thanks a lot for posting it. I’m just starting to learn about wild plants and edible landscapes and found this to be quite useful. You helped me learn that what I thought was clover is actually wood sorrel. I have made a correction in my own channel’s video and posted a link to this one in the description.
Some of my relatives were into the whole wild edibles thing. I quickly learned there is a big difference between edible and eatable. In the words of Patric Mcmanus “Edible means you don’t flop over dead after eating it. Eatable means your guests don’t punch you in the mouth after they try it.” I’ve also discovered there is usually a reason why some items are not sold in stores. If something is really that good there would be a demand for it and someone would be cultivating it for profit. Please pass the choke cherry jam and hold the wild gobo.
Would really appreciate the proper names like geum or carex pendula. Great video thanks
…no one will ever be hungry once they’ve mastered the art of foraging…thank you for sharing…
nettles are great, you can make soup and rope from them. good vid, would have preferred if you actually ate some of the plants though
I have a small wooden area behind my house, with a creek on the other side, should I try foraging? I’m not sure I’ll be able to find anything:/
Wild food is real food for regular people. It really is incredible how many wild mustards there are, each with their own flavor. Edible tree leaves and tree flowers are good ways to get started, too. People don’t seem so intimidated by them, the trees stay in one place for a long time, and they can handle significant harvests. There is a world of abundance out there, just waiting for us all to take the time to get to know each plant and appreciate how to use it.
who’s watching these because of the collapse that is about to happen?
All of these weeds are in my yard but I am always afraid to try them. I have lots and lots of chickweed and Curly Dock but I don’t trust myself, thinking maybe I am wrong in identifying them. I
You missed Stinging Nettles… and more!!!! Yummy stuff >> All of it!!!
Purslane! I have purslane. Looked that stuff up and it turns out it’s a great one to have.
In case anyone is wondering, the White Man’s Footprint is Broadleaf Plantain. It tastes better than the narrow or ribbon leaf variety, especially when young.
ironic (sad) how many americans (maybe non americas) spray glyphosate on dandelions (and other edibles that humans think are weeds); then make a trip to the supermarket for over-priced bagged salad and gallon buckets of ranch dressing.
i used to eat chickweed as a kid..now i know what it’s called dayyyuuummm
I don’t think you named the ‘white man’s footprint’ plant. What’s it’s proper name?
Interesting, but I found the monotone commentary hard to listen to.
Good stuff here. You forgot to mention edible clover leaves, packed with vitamins. Get cooking with our #Chefs!
Mike: Find perfectly edible blackberry bush ” I’m gonna avoid that”
Also mike: finds stinging nettle plant “this looks good in soup”
Like most adds it did not talk about the weed it showed first.
Thank you, beautiful human! Another video to love. I’ve long wanted to learn plants. I’d see myself back before witches were known and thus could practice in peace. Perhaps I’d be a wise woman of the village or even the student of an apothecary. Or the apothecary herself. Key points-hundreds of years ago, wandering a vast garden, able to point to each plant, name it, and know both its medicinal, magical and gastronomic uses. I could still have that dream. Well a modified version. I have no garden but there are things growing around the apartment complex. I’ll start with what I know and maybe take photos along the walk. I must needs visit the foraging section of your site.
Just find mushroms it is easy to find the corect one and im 11
true, you’ll die if you don’t have food within 3 days…
…assuming you’re already severely undernourished and built like a pile of sticks.
I love collecting figs falling from the tree tops, leftover yellow jacket honeycomb, fresh marmite oozing out the oak tree’s:)

All this time we were using these weeds, especially dandelion leaves, as our collard greens, when we were kids playing house and we could actually eat it!
It is said to, it may, it could, it is possibly, etc etc etc,?? On the other hand,, unless you are starving in the wilderness,, go buy, grow proper fruit and veg, salad stuff, and meat and vegetables ;,like civilised human beings!!! Otherwise you die of old age before you ever get any benefit from the “herbal garden””!!!!
more nutritious than store bought, just because they are fresher.
Calcium and phosphorous can be deadly to humans. Too much phosphorous in the blood can cause calcification in the arteries, kidneys and other vital organs causing heart attacks, strokes and kidney disease, which will expedite the dangerous process. Avoid any wild plants high in calcium and phosphorous.
So far I identify Evening Primrose, Wild Onions, Clover, Dandelion, Mint, Johnson Grass which I’m allergic to, wild strawberries which the berries are to small to harvest. The Wild Onion & Mint are overcoming when mowed over, the odor will knock you off your feet.
Wild Radish immature green
seed pods. Some are mild and others are strong. Yummy. Purslane, Chicory, Curly Dock, clover.
These plants are abundant in Himalayan valleys and meadows and are widely consumed by locals since centuries. The list of these plants is long and definitely useful.
the beargrylls style should have been eating a hamburger behind the scenes
I’ve got several variations of plantain in my yard, plus dead nettles, garlic mustard, wild chamomile, wild chives, clover, and honeysuckle. I’m new at this but I’ve been drying them for tea, except for the chives.
These are buttercups, definitely fine.
Flashbacks to Undertale
Funny the thumbnail shows plantain, which I’ve called ‘lawn cabbage’ for decades. I just rip it up and don’t eat it. Sorry.
Why wasting your time on finding food in the woods when there’s a cameraman following you?
he mentions that nettles have a multitude of uses and then he doesn’t explain a single one. i wish he would explain some especially if he mentions how many there are
She is very articulate, and informative. Well worth the time spent!
In Taiwan, New Zealand, Britain the average man wants to kill weeds, meaning wild plants, near their home because they consider them similar to garbage. Farmers do not want wild plants because they attract insects. But beekeepers, butterflies, and all wildlife need weeds to survive. To eradicate weeds with weedkillers or otherwise shows lack of interest in nature.
Been trying to get the backyard cleaned up. I have dandelion, a monstrous amount of bitter dock, and wood sorrel.
“And God said, Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in there which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for meat”
you should mention which area/region/country you are talking about! Thank’s
Lol, OMG… WWWHAT??? No marshmallows?!?!!!! I must forage!!!!
There was a strawberry leaf behind the dandelions. Oh, have you heard of African Potato Mint? It’s known about in France, and is possible that you’ve walked right by it thinking it was regular mint. It has edible tubers under the main stem of the mint plant.
ya danilion. Chinese love picking these. I should do it as well.. clean areas. no dog shits pee. LOL
It’s strange how something trying to grow is classified as a weed. Korea has found such weed and found it boost body immunity to fight radiation. It’s picture could be seen on most roundup bottles. I find it such irony.
Chickweed does not taste like spinach….it pretty much tastes like grass.
There is no nutrients in plants that humans can Digest we are not plant eaters we are meat eaters all the human body needs is meat and fat your are slowly killing yourself with Plants and vegetables they are poisonous so are seeds legumes beans man-made vegetables this is all proven if you don’t believe me look it up no plant or seed wants to be eaten they got defense mechanisms only plant-eating animals can get past the poisons in the plants
Lots of dandelions! If we’re out of lettuce, we pick some, and voila!
“is it possible to find a days worth of food in the forest” Well, we wouldnt be watching this video if it wasnt, life would still be contained in the ocean if it wasnt…. Alright, bad joke. But the obvious awnser is ABSOLUTELY FUCKING YES.
And I always assumed the videos of skin and bones thin N. Koreans walking around picking clumps of grass and putting it in bags was just their desperate acts to feed a starving family. Who knew it was just eating healthy.
Every Spring my Mother picked young leaves of dandelion, lambs quarter and wild mustard and steamed them. She put chopped bacon slices in a cast iron skillet, browned, added vinegar, honey and then tossed in the greens for a couple of minutes before putting in salad bowls with chopped boiled eggs on top-delicious. We enjoyed this for about a month before the plants became too big and tough and the mower took them down. I have carried on with this all my life.
Does anybody know did the World update?
Is it still safe to eat them?
I will named my first sim after you Rob ever since the Sims 4 Eco Lifestyle dlc came out
I started growing oxalis in flower pots, a couple of years ago. Several varieties. I started them, to plant on our new property, which we are about to move to, now that we have a house built. I didn’t start them for bees. I started them because I thought they looked cool! But my first oxalis (clover type plant) immediately attracted honey bees to my house. I saw a couple of honey bees this summer, which is something I had not seen the entire time (15 years) that we’ve lived here. Look for clover and oxalis, along with dandelion and other flowering seeds for bees. Look for any and all perennial plants, that flower and attract pollinators. All flower seeds you purchase should say for bees or butterflies. You can also throw hummingbird flowers in the mix, if you want. But if you have yard space, don’t go for the perfect green lawn. Encourage edible weeds, especially if they attract bees.
This video assumes you have an organic yard free of pesticides and herbicides also no animal feces.
Nevertheless make sure you clean whatever you pick, clean it with a bath of water and peroxide
Bullshit. I used to eat crabapples right off the tree all the time when I was a kid. It definitely didn’t “paralyze my facial muscles…”
I always said I was gonna give some of these a try so more procrastination
Wild Garlic is amazong folks! You can make an amazing cream soup or cook the leaves like spinach. Or you make a Wild Garlic Salt out of it! I have it in my garden since years. Its very healthy as well
I wish the coal miners in KY had gensng to sell, but,Mitch McConnell, thinks a $5,000 fine,is woser, than creating an industry that sells to China, sad indeed, while 22trillion dollars and 22vets killing themselves every day, could be farmers.
Damn it. Very ironic that most of my blood is Native American and for some stupid reason, I never knew of this knowledge. Clover and Dandelion are the only 2 I’ve ever known of, embarrassingly, and that’s just the name. Gotta do more research on these plants that are highly neglected. Thanks for the video. Much appreciated.
All of them but never new their full usages we even eat a few but not all
We use to make couscous salad with those weeds! in the spring it’s very delicious
Aha,The Dandelion flower.Let me tell you about the Dandelion. When i was a little girl,I had a couple of tiny warts on my hand.I was playing on the field in my school and picked a dandelion. From the stem came this white milky substance and i dabbed it on my warts,And behold my warts went.Done same with my son when he was younger and his disappeared also…Great tip all..You Can not beat NATURE AND HER SECRETS.Love her…..
