Thanks for taking the time to share your knowledge and experience with us. I wonder after how long you began reintroducing foods. I have been on a vegan low Fodmap diet for about 6 months now. I cheat only when I eat out and I usually pay for it with cramps and bloating the next day. I think I may start a journal to try to find out which foods are bothering me most.
Thanks for your video. Your tips are excellent! However, I am confused about a couple things.. If garlic is bad, how is garlic-infused olive oil good? Polenta is made of corn. On the list my doctor gave me yesterday, corn is on the not allowed list.
This has been really useful, I’m on stage 1 so it’s handy to know how “combos” and “stacking” might work in the coming months! Good to bear in mind rather than just writing things off completely after 1 flare up!
Haha, “If a recipe calls for 1 clove of garlic I’m putting in 4!” Those were the days. I’m now a 1/4 of a clove kinda gal. Random question but do you notice that you can REALLY smell garlic on yourself and other people since cutting down? I must have stunk before!
are all ur recipes FODMAP friendly and Gluten Free? I am Celiac
I was looking for an video to explain the Low FODMAP diet to a client. This is excellent! Thanks Monash. I do wish you would explore SIBO as well tho. I was on the LOW FODMAP diet for years to quell my symptoms, but it wasn’t until I addressed SIBO that I really felt better.
capsicum/peppers set me off so badly and people just don’t understand. I’m just dipping my toes into low fodmap now but previously if I eat out the restaurant does not care in the slightest that I have advised “allergen” (for lack of better word that would be understood) and just chuck the capsicum into the meal anyway. It’s incredibly frustrating. I know the word for capsicum in about 4 different ways now….
Not to mention people just think you’re making things up in regards to bowel issues and digestion it’s like because they can’t see it it doesn’t exist. They can’t believe that sometimes I am in so much pain I can’t move or get so bloated I look 6 months pregnant and it’s painful.
Thank you for the tips and the recipe book recommendation!
Thank you for this! All my life I have been dealing with some form of IBS. Today I finally got to see a specialist and they put me on this diet. I was like ummmm? I look forward to watching some recipes for this.
I found a useful collection of videos that should help on Stomach oracle omnibus
On a chart on the website it says bananas are low but in the video they are shown as high!!!???
This needs more promoting, my GP recently suggested I look into the FODMAP diet. As I’ve suffered with IBS for over half my life I can honestly say it’s amazing to eat without experiencing discomfort/bloating/pain after. I’m a vegetarian and always felt I was eating a healthy, mainly plant based diet… I now see the error of my ways using onion, garlic and mushroom in most of my meals. I’ve tried a gluten free, wheat free diet but never felt the relief I feel now. It’s ashame I didn’t discover this sooner! Thanks again:)
I think you are right in saying the its all about personal tolerances. Stress plays such a big part too. I know when I am stressed I have to watch my fodmaps more
This is an amazing video I’ll be showing my patients who consults for IBS symptoms… which are quite a few!
There’s a book called “SD Protocol” by Dr Wayne Todd. It talks about Sympathetic Dominance which is to do with the nervous system and stress. It’s strongly connected to gut health and if you learn about that with the low FODMAP diet it can seriously help with IBS more than going on the diet alone can do. Highly recommended!
Definitely purchase the Monash app. Hugely helpful as a quick reference to high fodmap foods. For LoFo recipes, check our @LoFoFoodie on You Tube of Facebook. Videos of meals and snacks that support a LoFo diet.
Tried FODMAP but it seemed so hit ‘n miss. Couldn’t wrap my head around why so much sugar and carbs are allowed when they are often cited as the main cause of parasties/candida etc.
Trying GAPs diet now tho it’s only been a week. Have you tried Becky? I’ve read the book and it’s the first thing I’ve read since getting chronic IBS that chimes with my experience (eating rubbish since early age, various random immune system disorders). Anyway, keep up the good work.
Thank you thank you so much!! i am so happy that i found this app!!!!!!!
I wish I could eat a low FODMAP diet, but I’m only 13, so I have to eat what I’m served… I eat healthy, though, and that has definitely helped. Also I try to avoid dairy.
I’m in so much pain from a flare up thank you for this. I really need to try this. I’ve been diagnosed 2 weeks ago after suffering with this for the last 3 years. I keep getting flare ups every 3/4 weeks. Wish me luck!
Please do future videos without music while you talk, it’s so difficult to hear you
Great visualization! On the app, is it possible to get a graph of BM history over time?
Okay I have to give this a go, I’m glad I can still get enough nutrients on a vegan FODMAP diet, when my doctor mentioned it, I thought I’d have to give up all my favourite foods, well I’m sad to give up apples
Hello Becky, I have been told That I have Diverticular complicated by I B S, and I was on a program called Pain Free Foods, which lead me to more complications, you were to only eat Protein, and vegetables together and only carbohydrates and vegatables together not mixing the Protein and the Carbs together at anyone time waiting at least 3 hrs before you could have any of either group, and if You had a flare up which is what I refer to as a lot of pain specifically in the area which the Diverticular is most prominent which is the sigmoid area of the bowel on the left side, you would go on a fluid diet for at least 24 to 48 hours longer if needed, and only consuming clear fluids, which is what a doctor or hospital would follow if Diverticulitis was obvious! My problem was that on the recovery plan of eating was, pancakes and pasta,I was flaring up again,I have cut a lot of Gluten out of my Diet,I have seen a Gastroenterologist and he insisted that I stick to the Fodmap plan eliminate any food that troubles me, which I have, Gluten, Lactose, Legumes, I don`t eat whole Nuts, eat very little nut butters that I absolutely loved and miss, I avoid seeds even strawberries they have such fine seeds, and It just makes me anxious to eat them so I don`t!! SO I feel the Fodmap has helped somewhat, I am eating more normally I guess you could say, mixing the two groups together, BUT Apart from being able to eat some small amounts of white rice, which I love I cannot eat Brown, yet its Low Fodmap I really don`t think there is a cure!!
I did the fodmap diet this past Aug with dietician overseeing me for 3 visits over 8 weeks. Ended in Oct. It is hard, but doable if you stay committed. I ate new things I would never try prior. I found I can have small amount of lactose, fructose, and gluten. High amounts of fructose (8 oz soda) and lactose (1 container yogurt) cause IBS cramps and diareah within a couple hours. High Gluten (2 sandwiches in a day) caused weird stomach, no cramps, and some urgency. Onion and garlic were fine. Been maintaining since Oct and feel much better. My symptoms were urgency, diareah, and crap feeling. So far, since Oct, been doing 90% better. I lost 15 pounds on low fodmap, but now maintaining with no complaints. I have IBS for 30 years now, so very happy I committed and discovered my problem categories. Fructose intolerance surprised me. Dairy not a big surprise. As long as I watch my portion sizes, I have been doing well. Fingers crossed it sticks. Highly recommend people try it, and don’t cheat, so you can find the issues.
I just started to Low FODMAP diet and I was so excited about it when the dietitian recommended it because I don’t want to be in pain anymore, however, I felt so defeated trying to go grocery shopping after. I didn’t realize how much stuff had garlic and onion in it and gluten. I have now joined 2 support groups and bought the monash app. All I know is that I am going to have to be patient while grocery shopping and take my time now and of course make a list (I never did that before)
You have beautiful blue eyes, btw. I am trying to stay vegan since Dec 1. I have made almost 30 new recipes since then and my husband and I have spent most of the month in the bathroom. He really can’t have that at his job! We only have about 5 we we liked well enough to repeat. I have been reading cookbooks nonstop. I can’t wait to get the one you recommended!
Really good tips, especially that becoming ‘cocky’ when feeling a bit better. So true.
Thank you! This diet has given me instant relief to crippling pain
‘People with IBS have very sensitive intestines’. Where is the evidence for that? I presume IBS is usually of unknown etiology, so how can you say one person experiences more pain in their intestines than another when you don’t really know what is causing it?
Did you have the experience that a meal of carbohydrates may be OK when prepared and eaten warm but can give you problems when heated up after being cooled?
I heard of that and read that for example potatoes create so called complex carbohydrates when they cool down after being hot.
I remember problems with heated potato mash, but I don’t know if it was exactly that problem.
The app is FANTASTIC! DON’T HESITATE TO BUY IT, it is worth every penny!
Really great explanation I’ll start using this with my patients.
i’m just starting this diet and i’m terrified honestly. this has been such an exhausting process for me as i’ve had stomach issues for like 13 years. i hope this works for right now at least
I sent this simple video on a complex subject to my family so that they would have a clearer understanding of my health situation. Thanks for creating it. Excellent tool for sharing.
Can having your gallbladder removed also contribute to poor gut health?
“I don’t feel like it really helped me that much.”
3 seconds later
“It’s been a lifesaver!”
I’m confused.
You can play around with FODMAP, or just go full elimination diet with carnivore and rapidly CURE your gut problems. Plus it was super easy to eat keto/carnivore.
If basically the entire small intestine and large intestine is affected, why do I only fell pain in the lower gut, just below my belly button? Also, I was under the impression that most of the pain comes from the large intestine where undigested stuff is eaten by bacteria which give off gas and other substances that cause the pain.
I’m just curious why you didn’t mention the protocol for SIBO, if that’s what you had. You can’t heal your gut with diet alone. Also, there are natural ways of eliminating the bacterial overgrowth. You don’t have to take antibiotics. There is also digestive enzymes and other parts of the protocol that I’m learning about now. You can cure your gut issues but you need to know exactly what they are before you do the diet. Check out Dr. Richard Hagmeyer and also GojiMan on YouTube for some great information on digestive health. Hope you can find your way back to health with a little education.
Would love to see more videos from you! I have found the channel really helpful
Glad I found your channel and this video. I suspect I have IBS and getting all the tests out of the way. Knowing all this ahead of time will be really useful if so. Dr told me basically to see if it’s any specific food, so I guess a food diary is what she meant. I know I am sensitive to gluten (was GF previously but started eating again), can’t have dairy, and many of the things upsetting me recently were high fructose. This diet seems like it would be really good for me.
The diet helped me a lot. I am on it for 6 weeks and no way I am going to come back to old habits.
Hi Warren! Yes, please, make more Low FODMAP recipe videos! My dietitian put me on the Low FODMAP Diet about a month ago and I’ve been having a hard time knowing what to cook. Pasta was my favorite food and I used to put garlic in everything. I like how you said at the beginning of this video that people need to consult a dietitian because it’s quite complicated and I just watched another video by someone else who put herself on the Low FODMAP Diet and read about it online. She showed what she bought on her first Low FODMAP grocery trip and two of the items were not Low FODMAP. Also, many people only have intolerances to some of the sugars eliminated by the Low FODMAP Diet, not all of them, and a dietitian can help them figure out which ones.
Guys, eliminating foods with a specific FODMAP one at a time might make things easier.
I am not diagnosed with IBS, and may be slightly sensitive, but certain foods made me uncomfortable years ago and i tried to fix it myself, tried looking at low FODMAP thing, i got some apps that listed what foods “in general” were high FODMAP but it was too restricting because it was too general, a lot of things were high fodmap leaving me with practically nothing to eat lol and then i knew i definitely didn’t have any problems with some foods that were meant to be high FODMAP.
I Recently Found an app called FODMAP A to Z, and i noticed it listed the type of FODMAP the food was high in (any app where they tell you SPECIFICALLY what FODMAP is present in that food will do, like the Monash one, but it’s more expensive) and now i can stop walking around in the dark, i looked around the app for a bit and and found the foods giving me issues were high because they ranked high in the Ogliosaccharide content (the O in FODMAP, Fructans and Galactans). then to test my theory out i looked for high FODMAP foods that i knew i had no issues with and hypothesised that they were not high in Ogliosaccharides but another FODMAP, sure enough, they were high FODMAPs because of Monosaccharides(Fructose) or Polyols but NOT Ogliosaccharides.
Now i’m just excited that i don’t have to eliminate everything under the sun… annoyed about cashews though… i started paying attention to everything i ate a few days ago (the bloating got really terrible these past few months after i went takeaway crazy and decided i was going to start eating healthy, nuts seeds and so on) and i noticed a funny/bloated feeling after eating cashews… i checked the app hoping and praying and damn it, cashews have ogliosaccharides (T.T)
How is it that so many people have all these issues nowadays that weren’t so rare 20 years ago?
You eat sth not right!! Sth processed! IBS eradicate processed foods.
Thank you so much my doctor just told me I need to start this diet your video was very helpful
Fixin to start low fodmap after years ago my GI reccomended it but I ignored it til now. Thank you for this super informative video!
Omg I typed in Vegan low FODMAP on YouTube and didn’t expect to find anything but your channel is SO HELPFUL I wanna cry❤️
This channel could make me a vegan, with IBS I thought it was imposible
Thanks so much for helping people see what living with Low FODMAP is really like. So helpful.
need to stop eating all animal protein! all eggs all meats bacons all all fish… they causa inflamation in the gut! you neet to cause drink licorice elm pau d arco teas also
Hi Becky, long time no speak since getting my SIBO diagnosis well things didnt go well, i was given 2 antibiotics and i swear one almost ruined my life in every sense it poisoned me to an extent that i still have neurological issues from it. Doctors think im just making it up but Metronidazole Toxicity is a thing that is more common than they seem to want to let on. I was just wondering if you have read about the carnivore diet? I’m looking to try this next for my journey of trying to get my stomach to a normal happy place
Hey guys I made a video about my personal journey on the diet and the incredible results I’ve had if you’re interested its here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T_cryzBXSJg
I have celiac and IBS and I’m going to start eliminating caffiene, alcohol, and fried foods starting today. If that doesn’t work I’m going to start doing this. It’s so depressing to be so restrictive but I can’t live in pain anymore.
I have ibs and my mom said my first issues started when I was nearly 2. So it’s all I know. I haven’t tried the FODMAP diet yet because what throws me off is there’s more veggies and foods in the low FODMAP category that absolutely kill my stomach and a lot of my safe foods are in the high FODMAP categories. Does anyone have this issue? Did you try out this diet and find that your safe foods aren’t actually safe? I love garlic and it never gives me issues, but perhaps it does just in a different way than my usual danger foods?
I’m trying to work on the diet but it’s difficult because of the garlic, onion and maltodextrin. They are all in everything.
Interesting vaccine trials are happening with coeliac disease here in Queensland. The University of the Sunshine Coast’s Clinical Trials Centre will trial a new vaccine that aims to improve the lives of those with coeliac disease by switching off their immune response to gluten. This is the first step in attempting to help people who are on the FODMAP diet.
So these stomach tissues / sensitivity are forever!?!?!?!?!
I don’t strictly follow low fodmap, but I don’t eat a lot of fruit (or super ripe fruit), dairy/lactose, very fatty/greasy foods, or alcohol. It helps but even eating too much insoluble fiber by accident can cause a lot of problems. It is hard to get in those healthy fruits and veg when they hurt so badly!
I’ve been eating gluten free for almost a year, and about 6 months ago I started to eliminate some high Fodmap foods, which helped me to find out that for me gluten, garlic, onion, pepper, cucumber, and milk are the main problems. But yes, like you said, the hardest part about following the diet is that it’s not a cure… Things can still get bad even if you are following the diet, and in that sense it can be very demotivating. But I think it’s better to continue trying, because at least you feel a little bit better.
Did you get healed using this technique? And how long? Also noticed chickpeas? It said no chick peas.
(Just for people who aren’t already aware) It isn’t possible to completely cure IBS, because it’s a chronic condition. I’ve been using to the FODMAP diet to mitigate my symptoms, but my gut is still terrible. I was crying in pain laying on the floor yesterday. That being said, I’m not going to stop using the FODMAP diet because I’m so afraid it can get worse.
Hi Becky, another great video. I’ve been on it for months and months, following doctors recommendation for stomach distension and bloating, also gluten, and lactose free and I don’t eat meat. What I’ve found has made a real difference is drinking apple cider vinegar before meals and also taking digestive enzymes and bile salts. They all seem to help break up food better so the gut doesn’t have to work so hard. During a bad flare, although these are getting less, I change to a liquid diet of homemade puréed soup, herbal teas and coconut milk and that helps too.i have IBS c and acid reflux caused by a hiatus hernia.
Milk thistle
L glutamine
Probiotics
Digestive enzymes
Apple cider vinegar
Liquorice root
Slippery elm
Curcumin with pepper
Bone broth
And surprisingly for some with a stress belly ssri’s(escitalopram for me)
A combination of these supplements have helped me drastically as well as fodmap structure pretty much saved me
In saying that yes every now and then I will just have a flare up over absolutely nothing… and undo all the hard work of consistency I pray they find a cure
I just want to thank you for your videos! they’re super helpful and relatable for those of us who are vegan with gut issues. very much appreciated!
when on low fodmap… and you really crave this thing. it is literally “is it worth the pain”. XD
“Low-FODMAPified”
T-shirts and coffee mugs; let’s make it happen!
Man, that was really helpful.
I’m about to plunge into the SIBO diet for the second time. I felt great on the first time, it but whoa…i got bored after 9 mos because I didn’t have many go-to recipes as you have wisely suggested here.
White corn tortillas are pretty much my best friend. Use them for any kind of sandwich, just make it a wrap instead. Oddly even works for PB + jelly.
why would people downvote this video? Monash uni is saving lives.
Thanks for the tips, mate. My doctor suggested this diet. It’s so confusing though, as some lists say yes to one thing, and then another list will say no, lol.
Also, I know this might be a stupid question but I see on Fodmap sites that say a portion size that is allowed… that’s per day right? EI) 1TB Maple Syrup….. that’s not per meal right, that’s per day?
Thanks again
Please please
Please! You’d be everyone’s hero, no one seems to recognise our condition some of us are desperate, all I eat is 400gr of chicken and rice each day how boring is that
Have subscribed really looking forward to watching you
( I have bam and Crohn’s btw’ x
What’s even worse is when you find you cant eat any high FODMAP foods AND then some like Canola oil and others that are supposed to be “safe” and you don’t have a clue why. You just know it makes you suffer. every. damn. time.
This diet has given me the ability to work, play sports, and do everyday activities with my family… things that I was literally unable to do 2 years ago because of the effects of IBS (pain, extreme fatigue, weight loss).
The Android app is great reference tool!
Yes, I still have a bad day here and there, but they are manageable.
after 2 years on the low fodmap diet I have found that I can actually tolerate small amounts of garlic and tiny amounts of onion if roasted or stir fried, not soluble in water. Also there is no difference for me between GF pasta and normal pasta in small amounts. The biggest difference for me was quitting legumes and dried beans and have had less nausea and biliousness which used to last for a month!Wheat flour home baked is a no no but I can tolerate very small thin slices of white well cooked bread, for example, Bakers Delight. Must restrict grapes and rockmelon and watermelon is out! I have strange reactions to quinoa Instant coffee is high in fructans and is bad for me. I miss green peas! and cauliflower.
It’s still shock me just how a number of people have no clue about Custokebon Secrets (just search it on google) although lots of people lost a ton of weight using it. Thanks to my personal pal who told me about this. I have lost crazy amounts of weight.
Why would you want to be vegan when the LowFodMap diet is already a bit dangerous? I’m own it because I have IBS and I can not eat most foods out there. Everything has to be gluten-free, even then most vegetable, and oats are terrible. Sushi, fish, and rice are probably the only things that are ok on my gut. Good luck to everyone try to eat a balanced meal. Great video
I love your channel!!! You’ ve give me hope. I ‘m struggling with IBS for about 3 mounths and now i’ve decided that i want to be stronger than this health issue. Thank you!
I have not been diagnosed with ibs but I’ve been experiencing bloating and stomach discomfort recently. Doing research led me here. I think I’m going to completely eliminate high FODMAP foods from my diet and see if I feel any better. I don’t eat gluten and was vegan for years. What you say about getting used to not eating out is the truth lol. Anyway, this was helpful. Hope to see more from you soon.
Those title splash screens are on screen too quick! Be kind to us slow readers D”:
I’ve vegan for 2 years now and started the low fodmap diet a few days ago, I’m trying to eat enough but I just feel so weak and tired. I don’t know if it’s the medicine or not eating enough.
Thank you for this. I need to do this. I am so tired of the bloating, the pain. I love to eat everything I want to but the pain is too much
I have just started on it but to be fair I didn’t eat a massively wide range of foods anyway and since most meats are included I am pretty happy
I’m just starting with this and it’s difficult and depressing but your videos are really helpful and gives me lots of encouragement
So thank you so much for doing these videos
I just found your channel and I subscribed immediately. I have suffered from IBS my entire life and never heard of the low FODMAP diet. I am nor vegan but am not apposed to eating vegan meals. I am going to be watching a bunch of your videos. So excited to start my FODMAP journey.:)
I honestly really hope that they do find a cure for IBS one day
Just got diagnosed a few days ago, I have been struggling with these symptoms for the past 4 years, I am so glad I am not alone in this. Thank you for this video, love from South Africa!
my pain problem is abdominal pain, cramps even burning sensation in the colon. how long have you stayed on the low FODMAP diet before seeing improvements? and did you have this kind of constant abdominal pain before? what about now?
I’m so glad you talked about a food diary. This is the main tool I help my clients use to figure out their symptoms and track how they’re doing.
Hey Chris saw this on 730report tonight, thought I recognised it. Looked great!
If anyone reads this and maybe is around the age of 16, I really need someone with whom I can talk about this♥️ So if anyone also wants to have some support, I’m here❤️
Why are raisins not okay and grapes are okay? It’s the same thing. Is the difference in the amount eaten?
Thank you! I have just been diagnosed with IBS and have been trying this low FODMAT diet for a week now. While some of the harshest symptoms have been alleviated a good bit, I am a long way from feeling well and normal. I spend most of my time exhausted on the laz-e-boy arm chair. Being a bachelor has made this especially hard as I have had to work this all out myself while I’ve been flat out sick. I’ve been getting disheartened, honestly, and this presentation has helped me galvinize my focus and determination onto getting on top of this.
Yours is the first audiovisual presentation I have seen on this subject, and it helps a whole lot! Aside from the actual practical tips, just seeing a healthy looking, intelligent young woman talk about this helps in normalizing it. Thank you!
P.S. I have been thinking of pretty well starving myself just to feel normal. The massively restrictive diet I am already on (Though I am only recently diagnosed, I have been cutting things like caffeine, sugar, meat, alcohol and also quitting smoking for over 6 months) has not yet gotten me feeling ok enough to function. Will pretty much starving work, if for only a day or three?
#5: I actually go in details until they are disgusted and stfu, they don’t ask me anymore.
Love your channel. Any bread recipes that dont have maize flour? Thanks xxx❤️❤️❤️
I’m a little late to the party but this video saved my life not even kidding thank you
What a tremendously well-made, clear video! I recommend it to anyone with IBS or just curiosity. The title “Grand Tour Down Under” is perfect too.
I feel so lost in trying to get this figured out but i know i cant keep having the bad stomach issues… but its hard when you have kids and have spent your whole life cooking and eating the same way.. also seem to have no friends and family that have knowledge about anything remotely simular… but im determined to figure it out and find any way to make things better/ more manageable… thanks for the tips! Also finding everything i looked at on the labels has onion and garlic and high fructose corn syrup in it and ive found those to be major triggers for me… bummer haha
One of the more difficult things for other people to understand is that some foods can be eaten in limited amounts. I usually tell people that I can’t eat wheat (because wheat usually comes in large quantities) but when I say it’s okay if, say a sauce, contains a tea-spoonful of wheat, then they look at me as if I’ve lied about my dietary restrictions.
Also, if I’m really hungry and there’s no low fodmap food available, I’ll have to eat whatever is. That leads other people to think I’ve deceived them about my diet.
Has anyone else had a similar experience?
Thanks for all the resources! I’m vegan, too and needed some ideas.
I’m on the reintroduction phase after putting it off and getting too comfortable on a low fodmap diet. Do i need to do the tests for all different types of a particular fodmap? i.e. if I’m having symptoms on one source of sorbitol, should I also be trying another source of sorbitol too?
So I’m new to this elimination diet thing… when you start bringing back in foods after the month is over how long does it take for you to start feeling sick after you eat it?
When you got to number 7, I actually broke down and cried. It came from no where, I didn’t even realize how overwhelmed I was. Thank you for your warm words of encouragement.
How to exactly find which triggers my symptoms? just trial and error or is there any structure approach? Should I eat only one food item at a time? last 3 days I am eating according to given low fodmap portions in the app. Yet my stomach can’t agree.
This app that has been developed by Murdoch Uni is excellent: https://www.monash.edu/industry/success-stories/fodmap
im so so happy i found ur channel. definately downloading ur ebook. starting a lowfodmap next monday:)
I have all the symptoms associated with fodmaps but will find it impossible to do the diet being mostly vegetarian. All the information on fodmaps is really conflicting so where can you get good info? It seems aubergine and water are only things that are ok?
hi, becky! it is so frustrating with chronic conditions. i sometimes wonder if all the years of eating “standard” foods started most of the issues and did so much damage that it is the reason we live with our conditions to this day. as to what triggers a flare it could be any one thing or the combination of things. maybe i’m just thinking too “out there”. phase of the moon? planetary alignment? coming elections here in the states on tuesday? hope you, mark and princess peggy are doing well. do take care and enjoy life! k
Thankyou for these tips. I can so relate. Yes feeling overwhelmed ATM with choices, eating out, feeling left out etc, etc. as a newbie. Great tips. I’m following the fodmap Monash Uni app which is helping with choices. Red is Stop and Green for Go! I will do a diary
You are so beautiful.
Good video, very informative. Thank you.
Oh, I wish I had found you when I started this journey. Thank you for sharing.
4:40: Yes, and with having suffered, you should appreciate the lessening of symptoms. And as long as you get enough nutrients, you should be happy to just eat for health and energy. As time goes on, that is.
Thank you! Have a vegetarian guest who is on FODMAP (is that the right expression?) coming for a week in September-bit worried I won’t feed him properly. Feel a bit more confident now
4:50 Foods that ‘should not aggravate’ us according to the list of FODMaP….. are still aggravating because again, your OWN body (every individuality) is not addressed, i.e. Ayurvedic Dosha (body type according in Ayurvedic Life Science Vata/Pitta/Kapha constitutions). Best Wishes
my friend has recommended this and she is so much happier since being on this diet.
Thanks for sharing but would much prefer if your whole head was within the video frame.
I have been put on the Low FODMAP diet today by my GP. It’s all a bit overwhelming but your video has really helped x
Nice! Good to know! The intersections dissapear very fast, before I could read it though.
The confidence factor of going out and eating whatever with regrets is so true.
Where can I find a free 1 week meal plan menu for the first 2 weeks of the Elimination phase?
I got diagnosed with SIBO. Now I take herbal antibiotics and I’m giving the FODMAP diet a shot. But in addition to that I am also not allowed to eat nuts, tomatoes and pineapple (since I am allergic to those).
So atm I am Vegan, Glutenfree, Low-FODMAP, No nuts, No tomatoes, No Pineapples and low sugar… I don’t even know what to eat anymore lol
I’m about to start this diet and I literally want to cry already. So many foods that I love are going to be going away. Part of me just want to feel awful then to start living a life with what sounds like a life with so much bond food. Thanks for the video.
I’m now starting this and your video has helped me feel less afraid. I’m not vegan but I am celiac so I know how exactly how hard it is to navigate at this initial stage. Thanks.
How much time until I start seeing results with this diet? Thank you
Oh my God I’m so happy I found your channel I literally have tears in my eyes! I can’t wait to peruse your channel! Thank you so much!! Bell Noti’s ALL THE WAY ON:D
I talked to my doctor about this way of eating i am new just about to start and he knew about it straight away and is really supportive me me going vegan and Low fodmap i have been trying almost 100 vegan food the last 5 months but want to get it to total. these videos really help will tell him about your project. and posts here
Geez you are so beautiful!! You can tell the diet keeps your skin glowing and those eyes as bright as can be!! The accent is just the icing on the cake!!
I followed the diet for a while and hated it! Your tips are great and I wish I’d seen it before.
thank you. What a great informative video and delivered in such an easy to understand format.
Hi, I used to be strictly vegan for years, but found my digestive issues were still not being addressed. Finally, a dietician told me to do the FODMAP elimination diet and I am about to embark on a new food discovery journey! Thanks for your tips, I shall certainly be taking them on board as I start clearing my cupboards, researching and gathering so quick east go-to recipes. I already have a snack stash container system:)
thank you for the great tips, very useful before I start the elimination stage of the low fodmap diet
I love this video. I started the elimination diet four weeks ago and I’m beginning to think it’s not working for me. Some days I can see results but there are others when my pain and discomfort is so bad I just feel like giving up. Would you have any tips on what to do after the 6 weeks? Are you permanently on an elimination phase?
As someone with experience, would you eat this vegan protein bar (Slim Bar by Nugo) with the following ingredients: Protein blend (soy protein, soy crisp, tapioca starch, salt), soy protein, rice protein, dark chocolate (unsweetened chocolate, cane sugar, cocoa butter), chicory root, vegetable glycerin, peanuts, peanut flour, almonds, rice bran, natural flavors, peanut extract, salt.
Thanks!!
ıts all about to manage your stress. Foods are just extra point
I’m really excited to try a low fodmap diet! I’m meeting w a Dietician next Monday. What kind of changes can one expect? Does it clear up skin or prevent skin rashes?
I’ve just joined your program and I loove your videos. How are you doing? Did you stop making videos entirely? Are you still helping people?
Did I hear you say you can eat garlic infused oil, but not garlic? Why is that? And isn’t this supposed to be a short term diet, where you heal and then you’re able to add more foods back into your diet?
Everyone is different, the FODMAP diet is a general guide. Each person is different. Listen and take notice of your body it is telling you what it can handle. My doctor recommend me to try the low FODMAP diet and did a lot of my own research finding the Monash Uni etc Earlier this year I went to a dietitian and knew most of what they were suggesting.
I’m one week into elimination, I so needed this! Thank you so much!
I know this video was posted a year ago, but thank you! I’m starting a LowFod Map diet in a week or so, and I am terrified. It means a lot to have calming resources like yours
My son missed 5 months of school with out of control IBS. Finally found a pediatric nutritionist who worked with us to change his diet to low FODMAPs (no one else even knew what this was). 2 years later, he’s 12 years old and you would never know that he had such horrible problems. He knows how to “test” foods that are new and has successfully been able to add many foods back into his diet, some completely and others with limits. Life changing for him and the family. I just wish more American brands were tested. Thank you Monash University!
Thank you! This is phenomenal:) I’m just looking into FODMAP right now, and this is really good to hear! Also, love the vibe:)
I’ve had colitis for at least 10 years (i’m 26) and I was diagnosed with IBS last week, I really loved finally KNOWING why my pain was so recurrent, but also I am so new and so surprised everytime I find out a high fodmap food that I thought was healthy or I loved, like bread, watermelon or mango! I was also cutting meat out of my diet and now that I can’t eat all types of beans, including soy, it’s been hard. Finding this video and your channel right now was a blessing! Thank you!:)
You can eat garlic oil. Also not everyone is going to be sensitive to fructose. I am not in small quantities.
I just discovered your channel and i started elimination phase as my doctor finally was able to tell me what was wrong with me…i have been extremely bloated with so much pain for months now andi do hope this low fodmap life will heal my huge belly:(
You’re so lucky you can tolerate so many! any amount of fodmap or grain is doom for me haha
So glad I’ve found your channel! Was really uplifting to hear your story as i’m currently in the reintroduction phase and have moments of feeling down. Will be checking out some of the vegan resources you suggested
There are bananas in the bowl to the left. Aren’t bananas low in fodmaps?
if you don’t completely cut out 100% of the things but most of it can you still have some success? do some things trigger some and not others?
Hi I’ve had ibs for a long time now I’ve basically tried everything I also had a igg test for celiac disease which was normal and also took antibiotic rifaxamin which didn’t help at all and every food that I eat gives me discomfort (ibs symtoms) what I want to know is that is this app helpful because my doctor said he can’t do anything and I’m out of options.
My favorite part is the visualization of the gut microbe releasing gas, and how it causes bloating and abdominal pain. Nicely done!
No such thing as maintenance phase! If you have IBS you just can’t completely change your gut flora forever. Just by introducing foods back after 6 months isn’t going to cure IBS, it doesn’t happen like that for everyone. Everyones body chemistry is different. It is very simple if a certain food that ‘isn’t’ an irritant is irritating your gut you might have to avoid it! Listen to “your” body. Thank you
I am in what you call the elimination phase. I had pyloric stenosis surgery in 1970 as an infant and have had misunderstood symptoms. Basically, eat then poop, every time. I’d tried dropping things from the diet off and on over my lifetime, using alcohol and drugs to help calm the nervous stomach.
All I have to say now is my scar doesn’t hurt anymore. I just added this diet to my intermittent fasting routine for getting rid of the midlife bulge.
If anyone has that long horizontal scar above your belly button, and it keeps hurting, give this a go. My whole mindset over food has changed. Part of me just doesn’t see a lot of things as food anymore.
Combination of IBS and PS is misunderstood by most people. Try the FODMAP app for your phone. Super easy to use. Motivation to stay on? Scar area not hurting, butt no longer sore, not having to use the bathroom every time I eat. Brand new life.
Motivation to reintroduce foods? None. They just aren’t food for me, apparently. Feeling lighter than I have in a while: feeling younger than I have in decades: I hope this helps someone out there. You’re not alone, nothing to be ashamed of, no matter how you have been disbelived on this stuff. Especially younger people dealing with this stuff, my heart goes out to you. I hope you find whatever works so you can have a better life.
Omg thanks for the video & the list I’m so happy I found someone who’s vegan & suffers from it too
Hi, I’m from brazil!
I have digestive problems, I have swelling and gas.
Avocado, Aipim Brazil, apple, potatoes, white Macaroni, beans, mango, cheese, milk, soy juice, sugar, garnet fruit, some fruits and several carbohydrates.
Help me…
Some really interesting points I hadn’t considered. I’m still in the reintroduction challenge phase but I remember I used to seem okay with some foods once or twice but not three days in a row. So I assumed I wasn’t okay with those foods. I’ll still need to see how I go with reintroduction but that’s a great point about maybe including something alternate days etc. I was looking at it all as all or nothing.
Also, thank you for taking off the music in your videos. I haven’t watched your videos in quite a while as I can’t cope with competing sounds (I have auditory sensitivities) but now I know you’re no longer having the music there, I’ll go back and see which videos I can watch. Thanks for all your hard work sharing this information.
The “A” stands for “and”, that’s one of the easiest ones. I snorted haha. Great progress:)
Having IBS means I don’t feel like eating at all, but your videos are helpful, so thanks.
I’m kind of in the same position. About 3 and half years in. Its helped but not completely. Mine started while I was in uni too. I’m going to go back to the dietitian to maybe reassess the low Fodmap diet and what I can and can’t eat, just hoping theres something else thats changed or been discovered in the last few years with the diet. There are somethings like onion, garlic and mushrooms that completely destroy my gut if I consume them. Everything else tried in the reintroduction phase also upset my gut but to varing degrees. Its pretty sucky being on this diet for so long and not having the most success. Hopefully something will change soon enough.
Thank you for your tips! I travel for work sometimes and that’s a struggle! On those trips I try to have a strict low FODMAP breakfast and lunch, which can mean packing food for the trip, and then I can typically eat a little looser at dinner. At the very least, I don’t usually have to worry about “hidden” ingredients then. I struggle with fructans, only those lovely delicious onions, garlic, and mushrooms, so I have to limit those while traveling and make sure that when I do have them, we will be back to the hotels a few hours after the meal when all the symptoms hit me!
Thank you for making these videos. You have helped me more than you know ❤
