Mona Vand seems lovely, and I’m sure she’s a wonderful pharmacist. That being said, please take any nutritional advice from her with a grain of salt and seek evidence-based advice from a Registered Dietitian. Skepticism on YouTube is key.

This is not sustainable “advice”. I won’t eat just fruit at 6 am before work, I would collapse before even entering the subway. And avocado on toast is not a balanced meal, sorry. People, do what works for you. Eat a variety of different foods and don’t stress about the order in which you eat them.

Hi Joanna, understand now that we should avoid pairing starch with protein. How about pairing protein such as eggs, with starch such as wholemeal bread e.g. during breakfast? As breakfast usually is good to have some carbs and protein as it is the first meal of the day.
1. Eat fruit first thing in the morning
2. Dont eat fruit after a meal
3. Starches: pasta rice quinoa bread and potatoes squash should be eaten during lunch
4. Dont combine starch and protein
5. After lunch you can have protein eg for dinner: beans lentils
6. Vegetables combine with everything
7. Fats combine very well with starches eg avocado on toast.. and ok with protein
8. Protein for dinner

Food takes minimum 16 hrs to pass from our mouths to the end of the large intestine. When you say it takes 2 hrs to ‘digest’ certain foods, it’s misleading. Unless a person is having diarrhea, any food will take min. 16 hrs. to pass out of the system.

A person such as a YouTuber for example does not have to be licensed in nutrition in order to share tips on what works for them. Practice what you preach, which is to always listen to your body right? So if she feels great eating the way that she’s eating this way then that is all that matters, all opinions aside. End of story.
If what she’s doing works for her and she wants to share with the world that’s her business!!! Totally understand the logistics behind a scientific view point, but since everyone’s bodies are so different, this style of eating might really help some people’s digestion! Just glad she’s getting enough calories/nutrients in & getting individual’s more interested in whole foods. Her full day of eating locks in all the RDA’s in my book!!
I’ve noticed people who embark and get swept into these food diets are similar to those who can be easily enticed to a cult. They tend to be impressionable, lonely, low self esteem, narcissistic, and have addictive personalities. It is sad and I hope they get better.

this video brings about an interesting perspective on food combining, given your academic knowledge and formal training with nutrition. I know modern biology and nutritional science disproves many of the biological claims made by Ayurvedic food combining practitioners in regards to digestion. this goes to show that everybody’s body works differently, and even without the concrete scientific backing, this can still work for some people as long as it’s non restrictive, which it seems like it isn’t for you!

there is SO much value to this video however there is also a lot more to the “rules”, “protein” in kenzie’s reset only constitutes animal proteins. so legumes and starches are a-okay! raw fruits and raw veggies together are also fine because veggies are “neutral.”

People in the food combining community think their enzymes are like them, aka can only process one thing at a time aka stupid. Sorry not sorry about being harsh. Proteins (enzymes) are extremely complicated, they function in multi-pathways that are activated by many different aspects. The first time I ever heard about food combining is from the author Kimberly Snyder whom unfortunately never gets credited in the modern social media food combining scene. It almost seems unfair to judge a diluted social media influencer version to the book by Kimberly that is more eloquently stated and supported. Yes, it’s nice to see myths being debunked by empirical evidence but the theory that assumes food in the stomach is the cause of all sickness makes sense because detoxification is the goal of many health practices. So the faster it gets out the better.

here in Italy almost every nutritionist is all about food combining
her body using 80-90% of its energy to digest would actually make sense, because than it leaves her with only 10-20% of energy to use her brain properly:P

I tried the 21 day reset for about a week and I honestly felt great! I definitely did not do it for long enough to have a fully formed opinion on it though. Looking back now, it seems kind of ridiculous. I went out and spent like $100 on groceries or something and I didn’t even like most of the foods. I don’t like avocado so it was really difficult to find things that I liked!! This is a great video, thank you!

Yep, I usually advise people to eat fruit as an appetizer and wait ten or fifteen mins before eating other stuff… or as a stand alone snack… versus eating fruit immediately after a meal like a dessert… not only because of the quick digestion, but its a good prebiotic and contains enzymes to help digestion of everything coming in after, especially cooked foods that are enzyme free… that’s what I’ve concluded thus far.
Some of these people didn’t grow up watching The Magic School Bus and it shows.

My mom lost a significant amount of weight thanks to a dissociated diet. Neither she or I say it has “health benefits”, she only says it allowed her to structure her meals better without compromising on entire food groups. As long as she’s eating everything she needs to eat as a fully functioning human being, I don’t see a problem.
for me it was exhaution it was like: WHAT?! this could not be right after all. I’m still with this opinion, that vergetables/fruits are not cool “over” lentils/noodles/meat. But this is very limitating. I am really hopefull on the way, that my body actually does know, what to do with the food I am eating. Hope (and feeling, what I was negotiating) is good. I discovered this type of food-combining in 2012, when I got really into orthorexia. There were so many rules, my brain struggled to keep all that information in (on a unintentionally 800 kcal diet). Also, I got into this clean eating thing with this acidic/alkaline food shit. I was bloated so much every night, it hurt and I looked like a balloon though I combined right. Not to mention I was so ravenous all the time, I thought I was broken for wanting to eat more food. That leaded to occasional non-healthy-food binging like 6 pieces of cake in a sitting or a whole chocolate bar a day or whatever). Afterwards I felt always awfull.
I suffered like half a year with this, keeping up with all those rules and eventually found out I had some fructose intolerances going on. And histamine. And lactose. Keeping those intolerances in mind, it got a little better, but never went away completely. I used to bloat daily, and I was so embaressed to fart all the time. It sucks balls!!! Why can’t I eat those really nice smoothie bowls with fun toppings without turning into a bag of wind?!
About 8 years later, now, I come to realize, that I might have a slight form of IBS. Keeping an eye on that, I tried to find out what’s triggering my issues. It took YEARS to learn and re-learn all that food-related stuff. It’s never easy.

Pretty astonishing that Kenzie Burke can be certified as a nutritionist while promoting such easily researchable misinformation. I was really interested in the Institute for Integrative Nutrition when I first heard about it but SO glad that I chose to take a[n actually evidence-based] course at my local community college instead!
But in my country dal and rice with spoonful of ghee ie. Clarified butter is supposed to be most healthy and complete meal.
Neuropsych major here just to add in a little tidbit for 6:55 your brain is actually the organ that uses up the most energy in your body (around 20% of total expenditure) which makes sense since it’s the one regulating everything going on (for the most part). Another factoid: glucose is your brain’s primary source of energy which is why carbs are really important to have in your diet. If you force your body into ketogenesis your brain needs to turn those ketones into forms it can use which takes more time and energy and is likely why when people start a keto diet they tend to have headaches and sluggishness.

Its kinda irritating that people are so misinformed about things and they present them as facts to others. So misleading.
Food combining is a myth. Milk has all 3 macronutrients and is the perfect food. If a baby can digest carbs, protein and fats together and you can’t, the foods aren’t the problem, your gut is. I eat fruits with meat or potatoes with eggs with no problem.

Pausing again, with a shake of my head, as I was so far off in my interpretation. When I first read the phrase “food combining” I was eager to see some great food combinations. Yummy, nutritious, balanced, colorful, interesting, and perhaps new-to-me combinations. I was so far off I’d driven into the ocean trying to get to Kansas from Missouri.

Hey guys! Just wanted to quickly say the food combining I’ve been following that works for ME considers beans and lentils starches, not proteins. They take longer to digest more along the lines of starches than animal protein. That’s what works for me okay hope you’re enjoying and having a great day!!

Some food combination are actually bad. I’ve heard lots of sources tell not to mix banana and milk. But I always drink banana milkshake anyways, and every single time I feel nauseated after that

It would have been much better if I discovered this unique “Yamzoko Weebly” (Google it) a couple of years back. I shed 12 lbs in three weeks up to now. There is certainly still need of physical exercises even only a few times a week as well as the foodstuff to have must be ideal. The result shown to me is fantastic. I absolutely propose the item, hope it works as good for you since it does for me..

I’m researching good combinations and came across you… and then found you on insta…. I’m getting confused about avocado… I was making breakfast smoothies with oats… but as you’re not supposed to mix starches with fruits… I’m at a loss… I was thinking to use lentils but that’s also a no go for optimal digestion… is avocado ok… and what fruits are best with it? Or is it a protein?

I’m late to this party but I agree! Food that passes through us too quickly would leave us hungry all the time. That’s annoying! Who has time to eat all day long? My favorite meals are healthy with a little bit of indulgence that keeps my tummy happy for a good 4-5 hours. Meals that contain carbs, fats and proteins are the ones that keep me feeling energetic. That’s just me!:)

This is so eye opening, we’ve been taught wrong since we were kids, at least in my country. They’ve always been campaigning about how a proper and balanced meal consists of (roughly translated?) “healthy 4, perfect 5” which are carbs, meat, vegetables, fruits for the healthy four and milk for the ‘perfect’ additional nutrition. Hence families have been making foods containing those combined in one meal, which is not exactly suitable.
i have sinus congestion but i eat a whole foods, plant based diet. i started proper food combinations a few weeks ago, i now experience zero bloating and i am feeling overall great. This is complete truth, if you don’t believe it, you must not have done it right. very great video, you are absolutely stunning my goodness. my only confusion are nuts proteins or fat category, regardless i used to make almond cheese and mix it with starches, and i removed that combo and no longer experience bloating, therefore i believe it falls more on the protein side of things. I thought chia was a protein, but i guess its more of a fat, good to know, i notice it was mixed with almonds in the picture, but ill try it plain. thanks mona

This unique “Kοnοnοz yyd” (Google it) is actually a eating plan that I have utilizing just for Five weeks by now and that i have shed Ten pounds already and reduce 3 inches off of my waist. This really tends to make me more enthusiastic on a daily basis immediately after I have eliminated some of my excess pounds..

This is handy but, how about Japanese diet (that I’ve been experimenting on)? rice (starch) and tofu/fish (protein) are often eaten in the same meal, right? is it a bad combination then?
I definitely agree with a lot of what she talked about, both weight loss and bloating problems will change regardless of food combining.
I am in undergrad for exercise science and going into nutrition to become an RD. Personally, applying SOME of the food combining methods has helped me, but I wanted to just outline that the examples she gave at the end all actually align with kenzie’s method of food combining! I’m not sure if the exact “food combining” principle doesn’t align with hers at that point. However in kenzie’s food combining guidelines she definitely does combine legumes with starchy vegetables and vitamin C (vegetables not fruits) rich sources. She doesn’t combine starchy vegetables with proteins, and i have my questions about that, however, because she follows a plant based diet (as do i) that’s not as much of a concern or option in the first place.

I followed this diet about 25 years ago using Doris Grants Book. I did it after an attack of Diverticulitis and prepared myself for surgery using this diet to maximise nutrition and enrrgy. I have never felt so alive in my life even though I had this condition. When I had the operation I was allowed out much sooner than was first thought because I healed so rapidly. Im going to try this again because I know Im having difficulty digesting food and my body and muscles ache. Im confident this will work again.
With this most of the Indian food combinations will be discarded

This eating method has worked great for me for many decades. I learned about it from a book written that long ago. No bloating when practiced, and keeps weight down.
