Metabolism is a combination of biochemical processes that your body uses to convert food into energy. These metabolic processes include breathing, eating and digesting food, the delivery of nutrients to your cells through the blood, the use of energy by your muscles, nerves, and cells, and finally the elimination of waste products from your body.Metabolism refers to the biochemical process in which your body converts everything you eat and drink into the energy it needs to function. The calories in food and beverages are mixed with oxygen.Metabolism is a process.
It’s the way our cells change the food we eat into the energy we need to breathe, move, think and do everything. It keeps us, as it keeps all living things, alive. Instead of being grateful for metabolism, though, we tend to blame it.You no doubt have heard of metabolism and may even have a vague idea of what it is.
But there are a lot of myths related to the impact metabolism has on your health, especially in terms of weight loss. In simple terms, metabolism is the internal process by which your body expends energy and burns calories.Your metabolism is slowly crawling, often causing seemingly random weight fluctuations.
At this stage, you need to stabilize your metabolism with a carefully calibrated balance of nutrients, then kick fat burning into high gear with plenty of fat and protein. If you scored 6 or lower, your metabolism.Unfortunately, despite the hype, marketing and celebrity testimonials, ramping up your metabolism is mostly a myth. “To make a long story short, there is very little hope of changing your.
However, you can do the opposite and take on more physical activity to make up for your slower metabolism. The bottom line You can help your metabolism — and your odds of weight-loss success — by changing your energy balance, or the balance between what you consume and what you burn off, through a healthy diet and regular physical activity.Metabolism is the complex chemical processes your body uses for normal functioning and sustaining life, including breaking down food and drink to energy and building or repairing your body. At any given time inside your body, thousands of chemical reactions are taking place to.Metabolism is the complex biological process our bodies perform to turn the calories we eat and drink into energy.
Even when we’re just sitting. The resting metabolic rate calculator estimates the amount of calories used by your organismto keep it alive (in rest time). Calculations base on a modified Harris-Benedict formula. This modification allowes to sum calories that are burned during food digestion. Digestion increases your basal metabolic rate.
Metabolism describes all the chemical processes that go on continuously inside your body to keep you alive and your organs functioning normally, such as breathing, repairing cells and digesting food. These chemical processes require energy. The kind of metabolism you have will determine how you should eat to be healthy and not to gain (or lose) too much weight. Your metabolism is a function of your body that’s responsible for transforming nutrients into energy.
Sometimes, certain factors can make it faster or slower than normal, with the imbalance leading to symptoms that range from mild to serious.Metabolism refers to all the chemical processes going on continuously inside your body that allow life and normal functioning (maintaining normal functioning in the body is called homeostasis). These processes include those that break down nutrients from our.How to Increase the Metabolism of a 60-Year-Old. What an informative video…… thank you!!:) I still don’t get one thing though.
People who are more resistent to weight gain and whose energy expenditure goes up as you overfeed them in “what” way exactly does their energy expenditure go up? Do they subconsciously move more (fidget), train harder without noticing? Or where does this seemingly magical raised energy expenditure come from?

So if i want to lose the weight forever so diet breaks are better?
Those bacteria that turn CO2 and water into complex molecules are like things from a children’s fantasy story where strange aliens or beings from other dimensions do things exactly opposite then humans. It is crazy!
Sir….my metabolism is very slow in spite of workout and proper diet is not reducing….kindly help
Appreciate video content! Forgive me for chiming in, I am interested in your initial thoughts. Have you considered Dinanlinson Trained Body Approach (search on google)? It is an awesome one of a kind product for learning how to control your metabolism to lose weight minus the hard work. Ive heard some pretty good things about it and my cousin after a lifetime of fighting got cool success with it.
Does it make any difference if we eat first roti and then rice or vice versa
Very nice and meaningful video. Got to learn many things from this video thank you very much dada. Keep it up and take care of yourself and your family and stay safe. God bless ❤️
Despite you are a very good teacher, your voice is just fun to listen to
Thank you for that 1200kcal example…that’s me whenever I’ve dieted consistently, weight just doesn’t seem to budge. I thought about going lower down to 900kcals/day but was concerned about losing muscle mass. But fasting two days a week totally works in to maintain a caloric deficit but lower the numbers on the scale.. I think I was retaining water due to high cortisol on the low cal diet.
I am Genuinely so confused
I was a skinny kid but then hit puberty and got chubby and kinda big boned and right now like right this moment my weight will not move from 148-149 so I’m confused is my Metabolism Fast or Slow????
thank you sir, now i understand how can i do slow metabolism because sir i think, i have very fast metabolism
I’m 6ft6, 35, and 240 lbs. 2000 calories and I’m not losing ANYTHING it’s ridiculous.
So am I damaged? I am working out though. So I increased calories, now I’m just getting fat. I don’t get it…
I think I might have a faster metabolism because I lost weight easily and I only gained water weight from eating Massive amounts of food
Dewd when you said we’re constant movement of matter and energy i felt invincible!
I am not a whirlpool. Terrible metaphor. I am a cell biologist and a science teacher.
Does anyone have a normal weight but you can basically anything and your weight doesn’t change but if you eat healthy your weight still stays the same.
Quick question: what’s a good method to combat the tiredness caused by being in a calorie deficit? I’m in like a 300 calorie deficit (i’m 5 ft female) but my weight loss has still been pretty slow I guess, and it’s been like 9 months now (lost around 8kgs) and I’m getting pretty exhausted all the time now, and I unfortunately can have only a very small amount of caffiene a day because I have a low tolerance to it which causes migraines:( (not even 1 cup of coffee a day). Anyone got any other energy-fuelling ideas?
If I weigh 220, I am around 18% body fat and haven’t ever dropped under 10 even when I was taking cycling very seriously as a teenager. Now that I have been weight lifting and eating a lot to gain muscle I have been dieting from around 20%. I believe I can reach 12% before it becomes really hard for me. Should I start implementing 2 non-caloric deficit days a week once I feel that I am plateauing in the body fat loss department? I am also doing 18-6 intermittent fasting to make the caloric deficit easier and some other health benefits
There are many variables, methods etc. but at the end of the day it remains CALORIES IN-OUT.
You can not disregard Laws of Physics.
I wonder why people are corncened her voice. I mean its nice and besides u came here to learn not critize such beautiful voice
Absolutely loved this video. Great info. Eric reminds me of Colton from the bachelor.

Can a person reverse diet by eating 1 block of chocolate extra each week? Soon you will have trained your body to burn an entire slab. That’s the theory right? Asking for a friend.

not all calories are equal. you can trick yourself into a false deficit or surplus. And we still have the way our body process the calories
Been following you for a while, and honestly, you are amazing! Such in depth analysis, such inspiration to find out myself, so articulate, professional and respectful and honestly a very friendly aura that you can’t help but be drawn too! Thanks for your work!

I am confused….cellular respiration is an anabolic reaction because it is taking the monomers and making them into ATP, right? In the video she says it is a catabolic reaction because it is breaking down the monomers further??? Thought I had it figured out and then re-watched and am now confused…around 6:22 in video

What’s your advice on supporting my reverse dieting efforts with an exercise program? I enjoy running but I was experiencing severe headaches due to muscle tension in my neck. This could be from dehydration, not taking in enough calories or pushing my performance efforts past my calorie intake for the run or a combination of all three. I believe reverse dieting can help me with these issues though I am interested in weight loss and as I mentioned, I like to run. I am willing to minimize my running days to once or twice a week (day 1 would be a run of 20 to 30 mins and day 2 would be intervals for 20 mins). I do a bit of strength training though should I focus more on strength training and if so how many times a week and time duration per session in the beginning?

Hey y’all.
I’m 28 and weigh 90kg (198lbs). My goal is to reach 70kg but my metabolism is really slow. I gym twice a day, eat once a day yet it took me 3 weeks just to lose 1kg. Any advice please?
thank you soo much. that really helped . i can draw the big picture now.
im trying to gain muscle, im 15 years old, 5″11 and weigh 145 lb, i happen to have quite a fast metabolism, it do be kinda hard to eat a lot doe
Thanks a lot! I have been dieting since August of last year (even though at some points I would eat a bit more, but still dieting overall). Lost 45lbs since then and was having trouble loosing the final 10 lbs. Been stalled for the past 2 weeks even though I have gone from doing HIIT cardio 2 times per week to 6 times per week while still keeping a really low caloric intake of around 1700. So after 2 weeks of this being stalled at 156lbs did not make a lot of sense, but hearing about water retention does bring some hope. Also, these past 2 days I have been feeling ravenous hunger (probably from all the cardio). So I will take 1-2 weeks off of any sort of workout, and will eat to maintenance around 2400 calories. Hope this works!
Jeff you may to mention meal frequency as that plays a part in metabolism, just my 2 cents. You can actually eat more and lose body fat when your body is constantly fed 5 to 6 meals versus 2 to 3 meals.
Trying to figure out if my metabolism is insanely highI lost 230 pounds in a single year, but I’m still trying to pass off dinner as a light snack! I need to know what’s wrong with me!
WELL THEN EXPLAIN IF OUR BONES REGENERATE EVERY 10 YEARS WHY NOT OUR THEETH?
And at 17:15 PDT Monday, May 13, there are 8 thumbs down on this video. Hmmm… I REALLY wonder why?
Thank you, Jon, another excellent video.
i think i have fast one Age 24 Weight 55kg Eat alotttttttttttt of healthy and junky food but never getting weight alot of people cal me skinny:( And asking me one question why are you not eating enough i hate it ahhh
I’ve long been of the opinion that diets that claim to “boost your metabolism” are a nonsense. Nothing in this video disabuses me of that notion. If you think about it, a diet that somehow changes your metabolism (a claim I’ve never seen explained chemically) to make you lose weight, must mean that you’re consuming more energy to perform the same amount of work. I.e. it would be making your metabolism less efficient! It makes no sense.
Im 1,78cm 77kg. Whenever i approach 71kg at atound 13%bf my body says nope doing 1 300 kcal. Gonna try a refeed week next time to ser if i can break 69kg without lowering my intake below 1000kcal.
wow! so nicely and simply explained! Went through so many videos and finally found this one. Thank You.
@ 6:01 39 billion views, eh? That’s gonna be the most important scientific video in history! I look forward to it.:)
Aab pata chala main itni patli kyu hu….meri body mangti h of mai deti nhi
I could eat a whole bowl of rice and still get hungry 2hours later
I have a fairly high body fat 18-22 I think but I also have a lot of muscle and cannot afford to not gain / lose any muscle mass while I cut down as I’m playing rugby at a decent level and trying to get to the next level any tips?
Creepy yummy at 3:35 even more reason to love this guy’s approach to explaining things
I have an amazingly good metabolism. I usually steer away from cakes, donuts (etc). But…. I’m about 40 years old now. And… Just the other day I ate a 4″x4″x2″inch apple cake, drank 2 iced tea loaded with sugar, I ate an HUGE Breakfast burrito, (with flour tortilla), and 2 (burgers), with the buns. And some battered chicken. And an Hershey’s chocolate almond bar. And,…. What’s strange is that I actually lost 4-5 pounds in the following 2 days. And whenever that occurs, it makes me look even more ripped toned, and younger. And…. I also noticed that the minute that I go running, and do just (1-2) full hard core Sprints,… That I get just as muscular-ripped as I was when I was 18-30 years old. I seem to get all of my cardio and exercise in only the 20 minutes of time that it takes to do warm up and 2 full sprints. Not just jogging alone.
Loved it!!! Studying nutritional medicine ATM! Love the way you bring the message across!!! More please
A brilliant explanation crystal clear and all the important elements. You go girl: )
Actually increasing your omega 3s is far superior for improving your metabolic rate. It allows cells to become better at communicating and responding to requests. People lose fat all the time by increasing their omega 3 and decreasing their omega 6.
Great topics but the video has so many ads it is unwatchable. I want you guys to get paid but I just can’t take this level of density for advertising.
I really enjoy all this information, thanks. I lost considerable weight on a whole food-plant based diet and kept it off. I feel that body fat % is inaccurate so instead I go with waist size as my personal measure, and mine is about 33.25″ at 5’10”. I would like 29″. I have a standard bone structure and 29″ I would be losing at least 15 pounds should I decide to lose weight. I’d have to get down to 135 lb, and yes I have little muscle mass but started a strength training program 5 weeks ago. Going well!
First time hearing of/from Dr. Trexler and I’m impressed. Thanks Jeff.
Im 12 and my height recently reached 5’3 and i am skinny that they call me a stick because im tall and skinny at the same time i do eat alot of food and loves vegetables but i still got ppl comparing their hands to my hand and until now… its still the same well i might’ve extremely fast metabolism
Currently enrolled for my ISSA certification… I can already see you are going to be an amazing help
People talking about haters in the comments but i can’t find even one bad comment lol who are they even talking about? Lmao
Just because ur metabolism is fast doesnt mean ur healthy. It s just ur body doesnt accept that much nutrients too becos it neglects most of the foods that u eat fast. Being healthy is about eating healthy and having a healthy lifestyle, despite of having low or fast metabolism or whatever body size u r.
Literally almost immediately bailed on this vid when i saw “eric” thinking it was helms. Thank god…
I’m late but this video is helping me understand the concept of anabolism and catabolism for my a&p class. I don’t see anything wrong with her voice, it’s very commercial ready aka perfect.
Roses are red

Why isn’t you?
Question what if you have a slow metabolism cause you got severely sick as a kid and never truly recovered.
thank you i learned a lot between the differences. It makes more sense now:)

nothing personal Jasmine.. sorry:/
presentation is great though:)
This was amazing. Thank you both for such great information.

Turn the English auto generated captions and it’s closer to what I understood haha
I eat a lot but I don’t gain A LOT of weight. But I don’t get so skinny or so fat, it’s on like the medium-scale, I eat a lot and still manage my weight but i’m just chubby and have thick thighs and arms. But it maintains my weight/ like I usually only gain a pound every month
Bhaiya, what if a person follows body weight training or home workout, what process could be good to follow, as you have suggested to follow your given workout programs, like muscle mode, shredded, 5×5, etc. Plzz suggest, love you bhaiya
although it is of course only a metaphor, I would much rather prefer calling organisms something like a self-structuring whirlpool. The importance of physical processes (besides chemical reactions) that enable life are just as important as the chemical processes.
The nanoscale is in this ideal niche where discrete & continues mix very nicely together. E.g. one can have discrete building blocks like nucleotides, amino acids or lipids and assemble them into structures that are rather continue like DNA/RNA, proteins & membranes as in, you can’t describe the structure by only knowing how its building blocks work.
Yet these macroscale processes allow for discrete effects e.g. the expression of mRNA, a protein tagging other proteins with a phosphorous group or methylation of the DNA. These processes have direct effects on the functioning of an organism, without finding their foundation in chemical reactions. I could talk far more about non-chemical processes that are essential but I’m sure you get my point.
As such, limiting the perspective of what it means to be alive in a scientific sense to only the metabolism is, in my opinion, a too narrow perspective on the matter. It is, however of course, a piece of the puzzle. I just hope people will realize there is more to it than (just) chemistry.
Sir ek bat btaye bmr kaise nikala jata ye sbse basic h aur ap us pr video ni banate sb bato pr bna dete h
No reason why I’m so skinny. So many people make fun of me just bc I’m skinny
I was a little chubby as a kid and no diet ever worked for me, but when i turned 13 i started losing weight massively, without a single change in my diet or what i ate. I still dont know what happened, but it turns out i got to the point that i was freaking skinny i could eat whatever i wanted without worryng about it, i seriously ate pretty much 99% carbs and sugar in my diet. As i spent my childhood being overweight which affected me psychologically, i worry about losing this “magic”, specially after gaining some pounds (lean mass) bc of a medical treatment i had. Can someone tell me if my story is possible and if i can lose this at any moment in my life? Idk if i always had a fast metabolism, or if i won it as a miracle or something, or if it came along with puberty. The last statement doesnt make sense, ik lots of friends who were and still are chubby until today. Can someone help me or give me some light here?? This seems like a weird af situation
Great video, great explanation of the concepts. Thanks for breaking it all down. Loved the vid, will help a lot with my microbiology exam! thank you!
I have fallen in love with your videos! So complex, but easy to grasp. The way you simply break down what we all had to learn in painful detail in school. You have helped me communicate better with my patients. Thank you!

If a huge breakdown is a catastrophe, is a huge buildup an “anastrophe”?
I think I have fast. I’m a 12 year old i am 4’11 and i weigh 83 pounds. I weighed 78 pounds like 6-12 months ago. I eat so much, but people are still calling me “stick” and it makes me more insecure about myself. I can’t help it. I’m sorry, wanna trade cuz I’d rather exercise.
So first of all right…You are one of the best teachers I have come across on YouTube, or in person. I’m studying Pharmacy and your videos are super helpful for my Biochemistry unit. Second, please ignore negative comments, they’re expected no matter how good you are in any video.
In my opinion, your voice IS the reason why I understand what you are saying, and I think most people feel the same way.
Your voice attracts my mind to understand the concepts you’re teaching a little deeper and questioning what you’re saying. Your videos deliver a teaching style that I’m able to actively engage with and learn actively. I hate monotone!!!!!
Thank you for your help, from Australia:)
this is like bs lol. it wont indicate if you calculate in lbs or kg. it wont say if you have a high mis you have a high metabolism.

Hi John, do you teach course on how to make animations. I like your animations and would like to learn how you do it. If you could point me to other resources, that would be greatly appreciated. Thank you
Why inject your religion with the question regarding origin of life? I get the fact that NASA, which means “to beguile,” is funding and steering the conversation but this is likened to having a drugged out uncle, whom we love, telling us lies how he squanded the last $40 dollars you gave to him for food and if you doesn’t get more, nearly $50 million days a day (NASA’s budget) then he will die and we may never know the orgin of life and it’s purpose. If you want to help him then feed him and tell him the Truth. (To some this may appear as a religious response to a religious funded video but to others it may be recieved as light and life. I understand it’s a statement in the eye of the beholder but stay with me.) That he was created to contain and express his creator corporately with others. The problem is that Another (Satan) expression has been injected into us and we are enept to carry this out. If only we could put an end to this first container and yet maintain the me within and we could start fresh and start being filled with the content which is genuine and full of reality. Is this a pipe dream? To me it is not. Roger Banister did an amazing human feat in running a sub 4 min mile and others quickly followed beating it showing that we have amazing capacity and ability if we put our mind to it. Try telling that to the drugged out Uncle. When he goes to the storehouse of strength and will power he comes up empty with repeated failure showing that the willing is there but the doing of good is not. New thoughts must also have a new container and power source to carry them out. The old thoughts and old connection to the old supply must be utter abandoned and for all intensive purposes destroyed. Who can save us from such a condition? Thanks be to God, through Jesus Christ our Lord! He is the One who is qualified and able to do away with the old and bring in everything of Himself that is new. We share in such a rich and genuine portion ( Person). Do not be defrauded by the old Serpent but turn again to the living God and recieve with thankfulness our allotted inheritance. Stay in process until He completes what He has begun in you. Enjoy the process of coming to know all things that are true in Him as we go through many allowed situations. To know Him….to know our person hidden in Him, to know all things of this world as it pertains to expressing Him and us corporately for eternity. (Read Romans 7 and 8, Ephesians 3, Colossions 3 and Philippians 3 for a start in this further speaking). We are fearfully and wonderfully made but we have missed the mark of expressing our real person hidden in God. Let us pursue together by throwing off the lies and source of those lies by turning to the God who wants to make His home in our hearts and to His word mingled with the Spirit with other pursuers toward the goal of God, His ultimate expression, the building, as depicted by the New Jerusalem in the last written word of God to His creation. ( With these key words we should have everyone’s eyes, NASA, Jews, druggies, scientists, Satan ( redundant and old, which we once were) but what will you do with it? I call you hungry seeker of truth and reality.
Im literally the only kid in my class who doesn’t have a fast metabolism, everyone else can eat how much they want and what ever they want without getting fat, and then there’s me eating an ice cream and gaining 100 pounds. It sucks, i want to have fast metabolism and be skinny so bad:(
Its so unfair
I have an important question. I have been stuck on my weight for TWO MONTHS. But I look extremely different… I don’t know what’s going on. Can anyone help?
I would love to know how low your metabolic rate can actually go.
Okay I’m sick of yall saying that you have fast metabolism. Like I am so disgusted by myself. I have almost 70kg and I’m 14. I AM A GIRL. I hate my body. If I wanna lose at least 1kg then I have to starve for the whole week.
Wow! Exactly what I needed! This is the best information on metabolism and reverse diet that I’ve found so far. Thanks so much for sharing!
The attention-to-detail of the specific molecules, like ATP/ADP, and functional groups, all combining in the various reactions is impressive.
1200 calories on starvation mode? Try zero and gallons of water
At 52:32 Eric says 46 months for recovery, I think he means weeks
This is a fantastic video. It’s one of those special videos that makes you go aha! and really drives home the concepts to ephasize how cool it really is. Thanks for making this, I love your content!
lmfaoooooo so this is what they mean by “you are what you eat”
Lovely Video! Apologies for the intrusion, I would love your opinion. Have you considered Parlandealey Chiseled Physique Process (just google it)? It is a great exclusive guide for Increasesing your daily metabolic rate without the headache. Ive heard some decent things about it and my work colleague at last got great success with it.
Sir this world wants you as to inspire young guys and girls.
I’m doing a 1270kcal diet right now and I’m stalling so bad in the past month I’ve only lost 2lbs pounds. I’m a young woman who is 5′ 11″ tall with a sedentary lifestyle. But idk what im doing wrong. It’s so frustrating because I weight everything I eat.
anyone how if he has made a video on the other side of it? about the difficulty with gaining weight (what seams like a fast metabolisms)
My Metabolic Age is 12 while I’m 29 years old…
I’m Hella Healthy…
I just found this channel, and want to say Thank You. I will be sharing this with every young person I know.
I am 13 years old and I am 46kg. Is that fast metabolism or slow because I look skinny. My mom and even my siblings except my twin whose likes me said so. And I am 5’3 and a boy.
Wow really fascinating stuff! Thanks for this video! I was 200lbs and lost 21lbs and am still 23% body fat, haven’t lost weight in weeks, this video made me realizes few things a few truths I need to adjust.
I absolutely love this channel. You clearly put a ton of work into finding the best way to explain the subject: What to include and in what order; the analogies and visualisations.
I didn’t feel that this video had quite the usual clarity in what it was communicating but perhaps that is just because the metabolism is a messy thing to try to explain.
As someone 8 weeks into a diet, I’m wondering how you go back to maintenance for a break. If you’re saying your metabolism down turns…. How do you know what your NEW maintenance would be for the break? I. E. How do you ensure you don’t accidentally end up back in a surplus?
6:02 39,677,441,967 views! Is that it? Underselling yourself I’d say!
How do I know what my resting metabolic rate is? I‘m doing strength training and cardio each 3 days a week about 1 hour, eating about 1500kcal, without losing any weight. I thought eating that much would be normal…BUT YOU GUYS ARE EATING 2000+ Calories?!
Your videos are excellent, easy to understand and cover the real nuts and bolts of what is happening.
I’m new into macros. I’m a girl, I’m not too big or too skinny but went to a nutritionist because I want to lose weight like 6 lbs. I’m small. I workout three times at week but my sleep is not so good. My nutritionist gave me a meal plan where I spread the macronutrients throughout the day but only eat my carbs around exercise time. I lost 1.5 lbs in two weeks. I’m want to look leaner and show more curves, shred, tone up kind ok. I’m doing 6 meals at day etc. So, is this the way to increase my metabolism and a way to lose weight, and get leaner? I mostly do weights
M, 40yo, 5’11”, low physical activity other than 3 workouts a week (M, W, F), and BMR is SHIT (1800ish cal). I feel like in order to stay motivated during weight loss I’ve got to be losing a lb/wk. I’ve gotta SEE the progress to keep going.
So I’ve got myfitnesspal set to 1790/day, which I eat between 6pm and 12am (IF) and I do a 36hr fast once a week just for an extra push.
All of this is just kind of what I’ve stumbled onto through trial and error. But it’s torture and still takes a LONG ass time (6-8mos). I’m currently trying to diet down about 40 lbs to 150 so I can make room to build muscle with less fat in the way.
I’ve done this exact thing in the past but I always end up giving up once I reach my goal weight and I don’t get on with the muscle building phase. Usually because of outside life factors (can’t afford all the protein, no gym membership, etc.).
Last time I did this I was determined NOT to just give up and gain all the weight back after reaching my goal. But I did. Took me about a year and a half to gain it ALL back. 8 or so months of dieting torture from 198 to 154 only to turn around and gain it all back, ALL fat .
Now I’m back at it again and I just don’t wanna give up this time.
WHY DO PEOPLE FIND HER VOICE ANNOYING? HER VOICE SOUNDS SO PRETTY! I DONT UNDERSTAND YALL
That is extremely helpful, explanation is very clear and precise.
Couldn’t fit in “slow” metabolism vs “fast” metabolism? or does this fall under the category “weight loss trends in Hollywood”?
This was a great talk, great guy that dude knowledgeable and humble.Absolute respect
Absolutely the best, most informative content I have ever viewed on YouTube – thank you both!
i’m 14, 4’9 (or 4’10 idk), and i weigh like 125lbs and it shows a lot since i’m so short
Thyroid down regulation is real though. So many fitness competitors end up hypothyroid.
Ccutting up catabolism,
Aassembling anabolism.
Not sure about Apex 😉
Hello whats up dude! Does skipping dinner could decrease rate of metabolism?
i make sure I had a heavy breakfast, lunch and snack everyday
Wasn’t that study you mentiond at around 55 minutes is about the fatcell production? If so, that study actually proved that if you gain fat in a very rapid rate, you not just storing fat in your existing fat cells, but also create new ones. And more empty fat cells means more bodyfat percentage or more hunger on the same level of leanness as before the cycle. I think that can be considered as “methabolic damage”.
Dang… Youtube did a pretty good job with this “caregorising” in the timebar
Why did viruses evolve not to have any independent metabolic pathways of their own?
I’d really love to see animations and explanations of as much metabolic cycles as you can ( ones like 4:25 ), in a side channel, with the final episode incorporating all animations into one, the metabolic pathway all animated, imagine how beautiful it would look
awsm one of the valuable channel in youtube amazing explanation waiting for next part
I am obsessed with metabolism right now. Many years ago, I was eating only about 900 calories a day AND doing 1.5 hours a day of very rigorous Lifecycling at a gym…and my weight didn’t budge. Technically, I should have been losing a truckload of weight, but, nope. My metabolism slowed to almost zero and I just maintained at that!
what’s a fucking voice you have girl….lol……you should use Indian voice for explaining.. fucking girl
I didn’t really understand how recovery dieting differs from reverse dieting (not when to do them, but what exactly they entail). Does anyone know? Is recovery dieting where you just jump up to around maintenance immediately instead of introducing a gradual calorie increase?
no shade, but I kind of prefer the slow look better:D
I guess because I’m just used to that look, being surrounded by guys in the trades
Is wearing a baseball cap backwards indoors, supposed to make you look more intelligent?
Wow, your voice is annoying, what are you? A brat? The video and the explanation is great…but your voice, ugh, ruined everything for me, had to stop midway. Isn’t there someone else for the dubbing?
thanks jasmine? it heelped a lot to know better my report for tomorrow good luck to me hahah
This is Indian English. I don’t follow American or British standards. And I’ll call it मेटाबोलिसम only. Make fun of you not being Indian nor British just like a trans, I don’t care.
6’2 48 kg (about 100 punds or 105) 15 years old.
I’m from east africa ♂️
So I’m watching this stoned, and I was having a hard time following along but I was confused as to why I always knew what she was talking about even if I didn’t catch it. I can’t believe how basic this was, you didn’t even get the stoner thinking.
Also the voice was extremely displeasing to listen to, no matter how hard I tried to ignore it.
Very good video
Can you make a video about neuron cells, their chemical and physical reactions and how it makes our conscious
And i would be thankfull if you could talk about the claustrum (the responsible of consciousness) and about memories (which are physical proteins inside the cell) and if we can simulate those operations in a computer to make a kind of digital being
I think mine is fast and At the same time I eat only small amount of food sadly I am currently underweight
height:165 cm
age:13
weight:40 kg
And all this time, I thought citric acid was only good for taking mescaline out of its base state, to make mescaline citrate. Silly me.
They keep mentioning diet breaks but don’t go into further detail…
This channel is so wonderful. You make such well informed videos that make hard topics easy to “digest” thank you
Very nice channel, these kind of informative videos were exactly what I was looking for!
Sorry hun, you just made things more confusing toward the end for me….
Another mnemonic device: Anna is a wonderful woman with whom I am still friends. Catarina is a total f*cking B*tch who destroys everything she touches and stole my jacket.
Wow, this is the most useful resource about weight loss I’ve found to date. Thank you so much for putting this out for free consumption!
My metabolism isn’t helping and I’m just getting taller. I’m eating but literally not budging.
Im 20 5’4 & my weight move between 110114 but my normal weight is 110 i think this is due to my adhd medicine
The only thing I would change is calling the macromolecule Lipids instead of fats. All fats are Lipids but not all Lipids are fats.

Hi nice video.. Can you also cover in your video on What happens when we skip breakfast or starve for long time?
I have a high metabolism I eat and can’t gain weight the food I eat I use for energy people are lying I weigh 79 pounds I’m 15 there average keep gaining weight I’m tired of you saying you have a high metabolism bc it takes me 3 months to gain 1 pound I’m tiny you guys are average
Gv me a break. I eat more, I get fat. If eat more to boost my metabolism, I’m just shedding the same wieght in bed I just ate when I was awake & my wieght remains the same. I want to boost my metabolism to help lose weight I already had when I woke up. My goal is not wake up at 180lbs, eat to gain 2 lbs, than sleep to lose the 2lbs I ate. That’s pointless. This video is pointless.
I got 8.86 what does that mean can someone help me out? Im 16 and weight 158 5’10
i have extremely fast metabolism,
most of my friends will say where did it all go? ( when we’re eating lunch together)
i asked my aunt when will i gain weight she said i will around my 30 s.:-)
I really wish this channel will post more content. It is of immeasurable significance by offering simple but effective explanations of natural phenomena.
I used to be soo skinny when i was a kid litterly every one will say go eat yoir soo skinny and stuff and then boom when i hit puberty and started my period everything got real bad…. my skin literlly was soo clear not a single pimple now it’s full of acne..my weight omg i gained more that 10 kg in 3.5 years literally if i eat a burger i will gain 5 more kg i use to eat everything when i was a kid litterly everything eat a full pizza+a Barre of chocolate + 2 full pack of cookie + 1L of soda + a bag of gummies +a piece of cake and i want gain 0.1kg now taste a peace of cake gain 5kg it sucks and i don’t know why…. i want to cryyy
Hi Jeff! Please put these on Spotify! Notice your channel is very out of date:)
Ha I don’t know, I am 47 kg at the age of 10 and I really don’t know.
Like I’m not fat at all, I’m just average.
XD
Molecules are broken apart in catabolic reactions by cats throwing them off the table.
I don’t have a really fast or really slow metabolism, I just gain some weight when I eat too much but if I only eat a little bit, I don’t really gain anything. I bet that it’s hard for someone who has really fast metabolism, or if someone has really slow metabolism.
This sounds too good to be true. I’ve been skinny my whole life even when eating unhealthy stuff, my doc checked me and im not even thin fat “when the fat is on your organs only” my metabolism is naturally fast.
But the benefit in crash dieting is that I can do it in a MUCH shorter time frame and in the time I’ve essentially ‘gained’ I can spend longer bulking, gaining the muscle back. ALSO if it really had that much of an impact on my metabolism then I’d see easier muscle gain as I came out of the deficit? Curious point of view I think, if anyone sees this let me know what you think.
Is Starvation mode Legit? https://www.reddit.com/r/bodyweightfitness/comments/e3sazd/is_starvation_mode_legit/
2 years ago when I was 10 I weighted 64kg 141lb I was crying all day everyday to lose weight but I can’t from my slow metabolism but now I’m 12 and 51 kg 112 lb I still need to lose more but I can’t from my slow metabolism but keep in mind I’m 5’1
i am 14 and my arms look like toothpicks compared to everyone elses:(
That is why your friend jessica eats whatever she wants, never exersices, is still skinny
Sir mera metabolism bohot fast hai or zyada nhi kha pata ek din mein or mass gainer bhi nhi suit kr rha
People are over weight because they eat too much, your ” friend” who eats what ever they want and never gain weight they are able to do that cause they eat when hungry and stop when full and don’t binge and eat excess amounts of food on a regular basis. Unless you have an actual medical condition that makes it hard for you to lose weight like POS you’re just eating for too much and you know it.
Jeff…I wish you were around in 2013-2014 when I was really into Bodybuilding. My journey is kind of nuts. I was a twig: 135 lbs @ 5ft 9in and started a bulk and in less than a year I was 170 lbs and looked jacked. Not all lean muscle mass. I had some fat on me but I had abs and looked swole. I’d say around 15% bf. Then I got injured and stopped going because of school. 3-4 years later, I am back on the retraining and now I’m doing something totally different. I’ve never had to cut and try to maintain muscle but this is all making it very manageable. I think I want to do a body recomp which is something I didn’t think was possible, because well the bro science was strong. But thanks to dudes like you who incorporate peer reviewed literature, it’s refreshing to hear as a scientist.
Thank you so much for this great knowledge, Jeff and Eric!!!
I used to be 13 6’1 and I weighed 180-185 pounds. I always I was meant to be a little bit on the fatter side. (I was never actually overweight but very close to it) I also ate a T O N of food. I thought it was normal but I would eat more than my parents often and just eat nonstop and I was not even that fat. Now, I’m 14 and 6’2 and 135 pounds. After eating very healthy and not really exercising that much I lost almost 50 pounds. I eat pretty normal now and still loose weight and now I discovered that I do indeed have a fast metabolism.
YOU are not just a whirlpool, but Trillions and Trillions of them! (As every cell is one!) And more even, if you include the bacteria that live on and inside of you. Big difference!
I’m sorry but never should it be allowed to call carbohydrates “carbs” in a video that is meant to be scientific and teach tertiary level students about molecular biology. It was an excellent and very helpful video and well done but that really stood out to me.
i think i have a slow one:(( i’m not overweight or anything but i def have to eat under 1000 cals to lose anything. anything over that makes me gain. all i want is to be skinny
I have this, I can eat as much I want but I aint getting fat
Could some 1 help me with this question.
Resting metabolism is best described as 1. Energy required to absorb food
2. Energy required to digest different types of foods
3. Energy cost of chemical reactions in the body
4.Energy expended due to movement and associated chemical reactions
5.Energy expended as heat while at rest
Love the voice. I wish my girlfriend has this voice. It’s very soothing.
Me: eats everything in my household that looks like food*
Also me: loses 2 pounds*
Me: eats entire quarantine rations Also me: 2minitues later shitting it all out and feeling hungry again
I have very slow metabolism.. I can eat like one sandwich and a coke and i could gain a pound.
I’m surprised that fasting isn’t mentioned all, if you do an intermittent fast instead you don’t slow down your metabolism at all. You only slow down your metabolism if you’re eating food that’s less calorie dense, not if you don’t eat at all (say skipping a meal or two).
I’ve not even watched the video yet but I just wanna let you know you looked better in the “before ” or “slow” picture in the thumbnail XD overly muscular guys look horrid. I think a combination of fat ad muscle looks good.
I literally get Hungry every 30 mins I’m 5’4-5’5 15 years of age and weigh 114 and I eat lots of junk and still is skinny
Jb thoda thoda khana hota h to fir log intermittent feasting q krte he
so basically stick to veggies and meat, and when having carbs stick to carbs with lots of fiber.
11 yrs old 61 pounds when I eat the lay down the food I ate is gone
i seriously will never get y people hate having a fast metabolism. y do u want to gain weight??? being skinny is so much better and u can eat WATEVER U DESIRE!!!
so if i lost weight to be quiet skinny, therefore if i do reverse dieting could i just stay at that weight forever? i dont want to get ripped but more of a slim body type is that possible?
Well uhm after I eat 30 mins or an hour later im hungry again
I’m really worry abt my weight rn. It constantly stays at 45 kg for the whole year. I eat like shit, but it still doesn’t help to gain my weight. Now, I’m insecure, thanks to my mom.
Me: came for a simple explanation
Video: metabolism can explain the origins of life
Thanks bhai
Very nicely you explain… I like it plzz make more videos for weight loss tips
I thought I was invincible until I started eating McDonald’s regularly….that food company needs to be shut down fast cause less fortunate people will blow up like balloons if they eat that junk
Me: eats 12 ice cream cones Dosent gain a pound
My friends: eats 1 ice cream cone gains 100 pounds
Also me: weighs 112 pounds 13 and skinny
I have a very fast motabalizm Now i can eat like goku
Anime genes
Great explanation great voice tone you teach from your heart that awesome.
Excellent Video clip! Excuse me for the intrusion, I would appreciate your opinion. Have you heard the talk about Parlandealey Chiseled Physique Process (should be on google have a look)? It is a smashing exclusive guide for Increasesing your daily metabolic rate without the normal expense. Ive heard some pretty good things about it and my cooworker after a lifetime of fighting got amazing results with it.
Man i bern doing that 800 cal shit smh. I dont want a slow metabolism lmao
I think it is very important for everyone to remember that your weight is not just fat but it is also muscle as well. I’m a fairly skinny guy being 134 pounds at 20 years old (5’4) but though it’s important to keep weight down, some of it is also muscle weight.
Thank you for the nice video!
Beautiful, intelligent-sounding voice!
16 yrs old 5’10 72kg is that fast or slow, please don’t tell me it’s moderate
I HAVE a fast one I can eat long day long and gain little weight the next day and eat regular that day and lose all the weight the next day
0:06 I saw that hand gesture and I just knew this is rigged. All of them pull that sign.
Well done! This video is like a little class in how to properly describe a complicated subject.
i’m 14 with a semi fast metabolism i’m not skinny but i’m not fat either it’s weird, i have a bit of fat on my lower belly and a bit of back fat but not as much that it’s noticeable but i’m still very insecure abt it:((
Everyone here: I’m 14, 93 pounds, and my metabolism is fast!
Me: I’m 14, very VERY veeeerrryyyy overweight, and my metabolism is so slow that it just doesn’t exist at this point
I wish I was slim or at least had thighs that don’t rub together
This explanation was amazing! It helped me understand so much more about the topic than my book did, now Im ready for the test! Thank youuuu <3
I think people always oversee the fact that bigger people and especially people in the obese category do not exercise much due to their insane amount of excess weight. Their joints hurts every time they move and they are exhausted just by the mere fact of moving around. So yes BMR of them is higher but most likely leaner people have better overall due to their activities.
when i first listened to your voice i actually thought it sounded very nice, like bells. Idk what other ppl are saying but thats my opinion. Anyways, this explained lots! Google refuses to help lol, too many weird complicated words for specific areas i have not learned about yet.
yes cardio isnt good, did that, I was damaged without a caloric deficit. Sad, cause I also had no curves but yet looked like i was getting chunky. Too much low intensity running for girls is not good. This knowing now Im naturally curvy. Did swimming with that also.
I’m like 7% body fat I could never gain a pound off of food. The good thing is I can gain a lot of muscle in one night.
Ty sir aapke vajah se slow aur fast metabolism ka mean Pata chal gaya
I am the person who struggled to gain weight when over fed and now, struggle to lose weight when under fed! WTH I never realized this!
Every girl seems to hate her voice and every guy(including myself) thinks its scorching hot
crash dieting to extreme limits will definitely causes hair loss due to hair follicles being shut off to conserve resources.
very well explained. Thanks. I loved your voice….for what its worth!
I’m looking forward to that “Metabolism-First Hypothesis” video
see? this are the kind of things that help you believe God have to exist… there is no way that something unconscious can create something conscious…There is no way that all this things knows what to do… how to do it.. and when to do it…. God have to some how exist for a fact…. is just impossible for us to understand, we cant believe in no beginning.
I saw this, in real time, on this mushroom trip I had a few years ago.
I swear I need this I harm myself from eating because if I eat I’ll gain so fast
Love these videos,it’s helping to motivate me to get back on track Thank you!!!
Her voice is annoying, I don’t understand what’s she saying.
46:30 It is true that you don’t gain fat when you eat less than you burn, at least in a vacuum. In reality though, when you slash calories drastically, you might feel less energetic, you do less physical activity and burn less calories, and suddenly you might actually gain fat consuming less than 1500 kcal / day even though before you’ve been losing fat with intake being +1800 kcal.
I do think when talking about starvation mode, we are entering the area of eating disorders a bit. The before mentioned behavior can start to spiral as you are slashing more and more calories because you’re not seeing any results. However I don’t think this is such a concern for bodybuilders than “regular” people, so this might be a little off-topic but still I just wanted to point this out.
Fitness gets a bad rap in eating disorder circles. The mental connection between fitness and superficiality seems to be pretty powerful. I however do see the positive possibilities with fitness in regards to eating disorders, when utilized properly.
Hi Jeff I’m 18 y/o 190 cm and weight 87kg i want to do a reverse diet i have been eating for the last 5 months 1000 calories each day and last week i lost 1.3 kg and the week before 1kg what do you think i should do?
Quarantine bring me here because i always eat and i dont know if i have fast or slow metabolism
Agar India me metabolism bolte hain to tu kya bahar rehta hain kya Ye Methyabolism kya hota hai odd lgata haim bhai
I have extremely fast metabolism, it’s natural. I could eat a whole thanksgiving dinner and sleep for days and not gain a single pound. I don’t even eat healthy, it’s all just junk food and I barely exercise at all. I am skinny (94 pounds) 5’2″ and 14 years old. How, you may ask? I don’t know. Most of my family is not really fat, just a bit chubby.
Thank you so much, I couldn’t understand this in lesson and now I do❣ur a life saver
I have a question, what is the calorie range for the low calorie diets you mentioned in the vid? Because in order to lose weight i must keep calories in < calories out, i dont know if that affects the resting metabolic rate, i never keep it lower than 1300kcal/day. Btw new subscriber herefound your channel very educational, keep it up mister!
Probably one of the best nutrition breakdown I have ever come across on the internet. Thanks Jeff well done on this.
so Eric said that eating more to lose weight isn’t a thing, but what about Stephanie in the ‘all in’ situation? She ate more and eventually lost weight. Did she go into a deficit?
I dropped 66 pounds in under 3 months sitting in a wheelchair with nothing but calorie deficit and then my weight loss completely stalled. Now I am at 225 gaining weight in the gym by building muscle mass below my unchanging fatty tissue. I have no idea how to drop the remaining forty-something pounds of excess, and watching this video didn’t make me any smarter… among many things, for example I have literally no idea what you’re on about with this overfeeding you keep repeating ad nauseam, lean this, lean that, single percentile body fat, etc. You make no sense… I’m doing 12-22 reps in the gym with medium to high weights on a 1800 cal diet, what do you mean tap out at 7? No comment…
Didn’t he basically describe “starvation mode” at 49:40? He described being in a calorie deficit but not losing weight. Removing the deficit caused the weight to go down.
Thanks! This helped me tremendously. My teacher explanation sucked.
I’ve never seen metabolism explained to simply and quickly. Thanks for making a quick overview so easy to understand!
Once my teenage metabolism quits on me I’m gonna go on a diet of nothing cuz I’ll be fat
wow…voice is nice and pretty, sweet, lik a song…and it makes boring biochem very interesting and good understanding
great video! Love the clearness and simplicity of these. So easy to understand!
Everyone is the comments saying their metabolism is fast, are fucking lying to make themself feel better. Lmao. Just cuz ur skinny doesn’t mean ur meta is fast.
46:00 that is a genuine lie:) (top quality content for the rest, btw)
Why do you have to talk like you are addressing third graders? It’s annoying
Mera metabolism Bohut Fast hai Than Weight hain nahi hota tha then Maine Purchase kiya On serious mass Belive me Just Jab se Corona Lockdown shuru hua Hai Means 2 month Mai Maine Unbelievab Result Apne Mai dekhe hai Mera weight 49-50 kg Tha After On serious mass Use karne ke baad Aaj mera Within 2 month now I have a 67 kg Weight!
Thanks so much. It really helps to study after watching these videos
How to do Cardio with problem of breathing.
#Health&Fitness please tell something about it #Gurumann
I think I have fast because last night and other nights I’ve been eating junk food and never gained weight I’ve just been getting more skinner♀️
Hey Jeff, just wanted to ask, I’m part of the group that is on a deficit just to cut down not for any specific thing and doing it slowly…Would you do diet breaks(1-2 weeks maintenance) as well as a one or two refeed days while Dieting slowly or would you just choose one or the other?
Kroppen bryter ned mat også bygger den opp igjen som lego til ny konfigurasjoner slik at kroppen kan bruke energien. Men denne prosessen må tilføres energi utenfra for å drive denne prosessen. Denne energien stammer også fra maten. Energi syklusen i kroppen vår kalles ATP.
