I was reading a thread about a person who needed a kidney transplant, and I noticed there was a lot of discussion over whether the donor or transplant recipient was at greater risk of complication or injury. Something that really stuck out to me was a claim that the procedure was riskier and more invasive for the donor rather than the recipient even though the former is usually done laparoscopically, and I was really unsure of the accuracy of that statement (just seems counterintuitive?).
I tried to pour through the literature to see if there were any comparative studies, but it seems the best I have are just some general long term outcome studies on donors. Does anyone here have any more information on the risks and/or outcomes of these pairs of surgeries, or even just what they've seen anecdotally? This was a topic that sparked some debate with a few friends and I just thought it'd be better to ask people who do this regularly than to go off vague pre-op patient instructions that WebMD gives you to judge "risk".
If this is better suited for a different subreddit please let me know!
