As a 40y/o I should probably just start working out and eating better and just let the chips fall where they may, because honestly videos like this one do nothing but depress me.
My husband and I work nights. In the winter half of the year, we work 12 hours, and we sleep from 9AM to 5PM. We cook omelette and veggie breakfast when we wake up, eat whole fruit at first break, good lunch at 1:30am, and snack at 5:45 am. We don’t eat when we get home, because we have to shower and go straight to sleep. So we eat 4 times a day, 2 main meals, and 2 quick snacks. I usually look at what needs to be eaten over the course of a day and divide it between the 4 feeding times. What food categories does your team recommend we eat at each of the 2 meals and 2 snacks?

You sound very misinformed. Keto and Paleo are about healthy fats. Keto is 75% fats, 20% protein and only 5% carbs. Joe Rogan is on Keto diet and several MMA fighters. Tell them their diet is feminine and see what they’ll do to you.
Just stumbled onto this channel and like what I have seen so far. I like the food plan except in my view it should have more focus on vegetables. Plant based diets are healthier and do provide good sources of protein that allow muscle growth. Please cover at some point.

I’m pushing 47, massively reduced my carb intake about 2 months ago, walk the dog for over 2 hours a day, visit the gym to do a weight/cardio workout 3-4 times a week and I’ve lost 17lbs thus far, and run a half marathon in 2 months.

1780 cals a day. Extra 30 G protein on hvy lifting days.

I recently discovered your channel and subscribed. You sir are an inspiration. I’m 42 and have just begun weight training after a 8 year break, to my everlasting shame. I let myself go and was 98kg and standing 1m73cm, so you can imagine i was obese to the max (for me at least) I’ve been working out for a few months and started counting my macros and doing online research and for the moment i have lost 12kg and my muscles are beginning to come back. Still a long way to go but i’ll get there. Thank you for the inspiration man. My wife & kids are happy with my change and so am i.

Another good video. Pecans/macadamia nuts 1/4 cup day total mixed any way you like have helped me. Rice more than 1/2 cup and I gain weight. Have to find out what YOUR body wants. Journal is only good thing Weight Watchers ever taught. Every bite noted.

I love intermittent fasting. Except I prefer to fast at least 18/6; but more so 20/4 and to skip dinner rather than breakfast. I like to workout in a fasted state in the morning at the end of my fast; then break my fast with my post workout meal.
I find it’s much easier to sleep through the last half of a fast when a person would likely start to get hungry then to sleep at the beginning. Makes more sense to do it this way as well IMHO. Have my last meal at noon, keep busy for the next 8-10 hours, sleep until 6 A.M. workout, then have my post workout meal around 8 A.M. so I’ve fasted for around 20 hours and have usually 2 meals. 16/8 just seems way too big of an eating window if you want to lose body fat.

Maintain strong resolve to stay the course, knowing it has brought success for others. 3. I’m in my mid fifties and is losing weight hard? You bet it is. But I have lost some weight going from 95kg down to 90kg. It isn’t much and I want to lose more but I want to lose it slowly. If you lose weight fast you put it back on fast. Also I don’t want to look like a body builder. To me they’re ugly. I just want to slim down and stay slimmer. With my height of 5’7″ between 62-82kg is right.
As for beer and alcohol in general, well I drive for a living so I don’t drink. If I drink and get done for DUI I’ve lost me job and being in my mid fifties getting another job at my age would be very hard indeed. I was a pescatarian for three years and that really worked well for me. I am 42 now. But this was years ago when we went pescatarian. I was losing so much weight. I just started back again at the gym for three weeks also before I joined the gym I started eating healthy with prepping our foods here at home. It has helped me out a lot. I don’t think any of these diets destroy or kill our testosterone. Being vegetarian helps with energy. I have a high sex drive so my testosterone is just fine. I will be turning 43 next month. I have been working out three days a week starting next month I will up the days to four days a week. I don’t need to work out more then that. What I do now is called a life style not a diet. I am never going on any diet ever again. They never worked for me.

This may be ok if you are healthy if you have any health issues then lots of fat and carbs and not much cardio is not a good thing.
When strength training, not body building, it is a very tough workout and I highly doubt that when strength training it is lowering our “t”.
When doing cardio as in a fast walk for 1/2 to 3/4 of an hour has shown to show better results for your strength training results. I am not referring to running for an hour or two.
When your cardio gets to extreme you body stops burning fat at the rate it does at a quick walk getting your heart rate up.
How do you measure ‘working out too much’ what’s too much??
I do funk’s workouts twice a day (spaced 10h in between) is this too much?

I’m going to be 41 this year, weighed 265 pounds, and am down now to about 245 by watching calories (eating the same stuff just less and adding more fruits and vegetables), riding a stationary bike, and walking my neighborhood. I know I’ll hit a tough spot about 230 because I’ve done this before and that was hard to break through. I’m out of time though. I’m over 40 now, and have NEVER been fit. Never. I was fat as a kid, and stayed overweight my entire life. I want to see what life is like for a fit person just once before I die.
I feel a lot better already, but I wish I had a guy like this I could get in shape with. It’s tough doing this without help, and I just hate that I don’t have anywhere to put weights so I’m struggling to figure out how to get some weight training into my routine. Gyms are closed now, and even if they weren’t, I have 2 kids (one’s an infant) and a full time job. The cost of a gym and the fact I’d have to cram going to one into my schedule makes it hard. It’s not that I couldn’t do it, I just know there are some practical challenges I’d have to overcome that would make it a mind game to stay dedicated. Thanks for letting me vent. Doubt anyone will read this, but what the hell, I’m doing this mostly on my own with no clue what I’m doing and had to tell someone.

I need to nail this more especially now that I have lost so much weight but still feel about 5 pounds form really looking ripped. Summer has posed some real challenges because of BBQs, special events, traveling, weddings and other times that food choices were limited and I had to eat. I actually did pretty good throughout the summer. I seldom eat sweets, or processed foods. Eat a lot of fresh greens and tomatoes from my garden and eat a lot good lean meats and eggs supplemented with protein drinks. Within all that said, I know I can do better so i have resumed my food journal which I allowed myself a rest from the daily food journaling. I ate very good and ws not gaining any fat weight. I am down to a 30 32 inch waist. Your nutritional protocols are really solid. It’s difficult to not compare yourself to other people but you got to as you said focus on your personal best and remember your age, and other factors. Work out hard, and smart, eat well and keep a work out log with a daily weight in, that has really helped. You are so right about the journey, and making note of progression and give your body a reason to grow. I love you talks. RA 40 really helped me get a hold of my personal physical journey. Wow and I am 66. I was working out in the back slope clearing trees adn brush with a HS kid and it was hot and strenuous work and I could keep up with him. I think that says a lot. I was at a wedding a few weekends ago and all the men my age looked terrible, they looked old and mostly over weight. When I mentioned my age to a lady I was talking to she could not believe it. I go to the store and see what people are putting in their carts and see the truth of you are what you eat. Wow and not only that but what you do and think. As a man thinks in his heart so is he. Think strong, visualize your growth adn progress and apply your knowledge to your nutrition, and work outs and keep expanding. Life is a journey, accept it’s challenges and keep a positive focus.

Hey Coach Funk. Just found this video today. Going to go online and to check out, over 40 alpha. Since the “stay home” order. I have been putting a lot of time in with my Kettlebell and weighted vest workouts. I started a 30 day personal challenge march 1st. And doing as you just stated. Full body, hiit style workout. This was the video that changed my life. I never work out more than 30 minutes, no more than 3 days a week and have gotten amazing results. I forgot the actually workout video he demonstrated. But pretty much bench press, squats, rows, overhead press and deadlifts, one after an another with about 0-30 seconds max rest in between. Then 2 minute rest between rounds. 3 rounds of those exercises. Warm up and stretch of course.

Hi Anthony…I am a first timer to your site….thanks for putting it all in perspective….currently I had gone back to weight watchers and since June 4th I have lost 40 pounds, BUT I am always open to a new way of eating. As you know with WW it’s all weighed and measured which I do everyday….I try to cut out the carbs because that is my nemises and if I do get any carb like pasta, crackers, cereal I make sure it’s whole grain(wheat) and only have a cup. I LOVE my veggies and fruits which I eat often and I find having more fiber in the diet also helps me to keep full till the next meal…I have healthy snacks in between like fruit, air popcorn, yogurt etc….I take my walks several days a week for 30 minutes…I am 58 years old and a post transplant patient of 5 years….I want to get back to good eating habits and maybe you can help me more with that? Very informative channel you have and I have been on diets it seems my whole life….their are SOOOO many diets or food plans out there you go stir crazy…..but I’ve realized you must choose the best plan for yourself especially if your doctor recommends a certain food plan for your health and well being. I will be 51 real soon and I’ve been putting in work since I was in my teens. It is such a blessing to still go hard at the times when I do have a few hrs to burn. My best work outs now are when Im in a fasted state and I have to tell you the feeling is awesome! There has been no supp to ever make me feel as good as when finishing set of reps going hard on the heavy weights and your body supplies the fuel! And I’ve close to having abs a few times but as long as I can easily gain and keep muscle it is all good! Thanks for this vid bro. I’ll be 40 in a monthIm about 5.9 and weigh 80 KG(160 lbs). Im about 3 KG overweight and this 3KG is so hard to get rid off. I do alot of cardio, HIIT and light weight training to tone, but my weight fluctuates. Ive found most success when I combine intermittent fasting during the day (basically only have dinner after my workout but has to be at least 3 hours before I sleep), and weight training. The biggest challenge Ive found with age is consistency. Because our energy levels arent as high as 20+ year olds, We need to stick to strict and healthy nutrition schemes that help us keep from looking like buffalos. Personally, Ive had major challenges with keeping alcohol out of my weekends where I tend to gain the weight. Any tips on how to manage these weekends would be welcomed.

Yep, the older you get, the harder you have to work on your exercise and eating program. If you’re trying to lose weight over 40, I think it’s important to come to grips with the fact that you may only lose weight at an average rate of 1/4 lb a day. Weight loss/ fat loss at this rate though will deliver a great result over x# of months.
Thanks for the info I’m 47 and find it hard to lose belly fat. I try to eat right to right. But sometimes when a good home cooked meal is in front of me I can’t stop. My experience is all the exercise on earth won’t do crap without a very good diet. Eat clean and take in less calories than you burn. I know…easier said than done.

Alcohol used to be so enjoyable when I was younger. Right around age 35 ish I started seeing how mush more difficult it was to be up late, drink, etc. the hangovers are exponentially more difficult to handle. I’m 46 and in the best shape of my life. I slowly changed my bad lifestyle (drinking, late nights, bad food choices) and got back into a healthy lifestyle (good night’s sleep, good whole natural foods, consistent exercise program) over the last 3 years or so. In the process losing about 60 lbs.

I LOVE your videos. I will dispute your statement about vegetarian diets. I went vegan 3 years ago and have seen my ability to gain muscle and endurance jump upwards tremendously, whereas as an omnivore I couldn’t gain anything and always felt low energy and feminine. This is purely anecdotal, I know, but I’ve never felt stronger than I do now. Without all the inflammation caused by animal products my body can focus on growth and recovery.

After 40 I had to decrease my food intake. That’s one small tomato, some salad and a very small slice of chicken breast. That’s it for the day. More than that and I’ll blow up like mad. On top of this I must work out 7 days a week all year long. My metabolism went down 95% when I passed 40.

As much as I like the Doctor’s approach, this isn’t a healthy diet for anyone. I recommend to anyone who is interested in health to check out a vegetarian or vegan diet, forget about oils.

As a man over 40, resistance training is extremely important, I try to do on day of cardio, and one day of weight training. Also the way I’m achieving my success is with portion control, I’m eating my foods from a small plate only!

This is a great no bullshit video. The very basics of how it works is actually all you need to do. The gym thing could be replaced for a day by doing the yard work (provided your house hasn’t been taken away by a biased family court system and an undeserving ex in a divorce). The key is to keep moving in different directions or doing different things to work all parts of the body…cant just hit the gym every time without neglecting the at home stuff…
