I find your review today, and sadly shoes of prey shut their doors in the beginning of March, 2019. too bad, their FB page shows shoes that were beautiful, and very reasonably priced. Perhaps they will make a come back. thanks Justine for your in-depth reviews.
What a fantastic video. I do ok in regular shoes, but have issues with dancing shoes. Any advice?
If in Australia go with high boots, I see atleast 1snake every hike
Im looking for an all rounder, the new balance minimus, the track looks short, will it not slip on fine grade soil paths?
I appreciate sturdy footwear. Other than some formal/semi-formal pairs, it’s all I wear. This aside, by the end of your video I recalled an old Black Sabbath song: Faeries Wear Boots.
what u think about goretex shoes, trailrunnet type? for what conditons do you recomendet them?
My Ballerina sister-in-law gave me a great hint for wearing high heels. Tape the toe beside your baby toe together with the toe next to it, (on the left if it is the right foot:)). It distributes the weight better and works.
very interesting.. i vl surely keep these points in my mind.
but i hv a problem my feet start paining in wedges also.. what to do
Thanks allot….these tips are really helpful….love Tanisha
isnt it interesting why designers completely ignore foot shapes and needs of the population to produce always the same types of shoes which fit only a small part of the people and even damage the feet? that is anything between shabby work / work ethic and a crime.
Thank you for the video, very informative. Your insoles look think and appear to have some flexibility. Where did you find your insoles and are they are particular brand. Merci!
I just found his video and was so excited to hear of Shoes of Prey. A quick online search shows they’ve recently closed. I have an impossible time finding shoes. Super wide flat feet and any shoe that does fit comfortably without crushing my big fat foot, doesn’t look so good. I’d love to hear if anyone knows of anything comparable please!
Hi mate, What would suggest for Ben Nevis, in August-September time?
I´m Egyptian with a wide foot. I’m on my journey to find a pair of comfortable pointy flats and heels. It’s driving me crazy because nothing fits right and it hurts…:(
Where did you get custom insoles made? I would love some of those. I’m a Greek foot, with a high arch.
So that’s what my weird foot with the longer middle toe is called!
Which company did you get your customised arch supports/insoles? Thank you:-)
I disagree. I much prefer the 4 screw system on my road bike and I see many people doing it. Endurance shoes will do the trick and the walk to the cafe (or the stairs to my office) will be much easier.:)
I’m more confused why every video for outdoor gear, hiking, camping and mountain biking features British personalities??
My feet type steps me in a deep DNA questioning and the past mobility of my heritage as being a Turkish (as far as I know I’m) having Greek feet.
Turkish having a Greek feet! Two together walk in harmony not like in politics KaliMer(a)haba
Mid and High tops give ankle protection not very much support IMO
Thanks for the comprehensive video, the best I’ve seen on the subject
I have Egyptian feet, wide 10 cm and very long toes. My size is 42/43 or 8/ 9. Very hard to find nice good shoes, I have also custommade insoles.
A great tips vid
I ended up 2 sizes up ( UK 13 from UK 11) as the cut of the boot definitely came up short it seems to vary on the manufacturing country plus as i use bamboo liner socks with merino wool on top i need room.
Its all what ever suits you, With Army boots super tough but not the most comfortable to yomp carry 50lbs.
now however i can choose so mids suit me.
one army tip if you get soaking feet and they are really cold and you cannot dry out your boots put your feet wet socks and all in plastic bags the put your boots back on after a short time its surprising how quickly your feet will warm up do not however walk for miles like that.
thanks alot.. this video clears all doubts regarding hiking shoes..
I don’t get the reason most people don’t just take gore-tex hiking shoes when it rains like you said, I get that it takes them more time to dry but that is only if they get wet in the first place… if you wear rain pants that cover the entrance of the shoe or gaiters it will keep dry, while non-waterproof shoes might dry faster but they will definitely get wet in any case which firstly will get your feet very cold and secondly cause more blisters because you are walking with a wet shoe… so why?
If I ride my road bike with mtb cleat, what’s the performance? Cuz I’m lack of money to buy road shoes…
you’re amazing thanks a lot! youre such a beautiful person inside and out lots of love beautiful
With my Egyptian foot my pinky toe gets tucked in and the toe next to my pinky toe rubs bad along with my big toe.. occasionally. ouchy.
Lots of good points. Thanks. However two fingers at the back of the shoe take way less space than a thumb at the front. These two pointers produce widely different results in shoe selection.
I have Roman feet and I have noticed that dress shoes with a rounded toe are best. My big toe is more comfy that way. I also can just look at a sneaker and be able to tell if the toe area is rounded enough for my foot. Recently I have had trouble finding sneakers rounded enough. Even getting a wide width is not enough, I may have to shop mens shoes. BTW mens shoe sections often stock double and triple wides in the USA, but you are lucky to find regular wide width for womens.
Thank you so much for such important and wonderful tips… Truly appreciate it… Cheers!!
I disagree. Every Sneaker has an aggressive curve when I go into a shoe store.
Thank you so much for sharing! I always gravitated towards a certain style of sandals/shoes, but oftentimes would be disappointed in the feel. Now I know what to look for! Thank you Justine!
This is really helpful, but I’d like to know how you factor in the insole you have when you are buying new shoes?
love ur tips they are such a big hacks of our life. to knw the perfect pair of shoes. . thank to u
What about “sandles” as an alternative to “trail runners” for the “first scenario”???
Seems like my feet would be classified as wide, 10cm, however standard shoes with a medium width always fit me perfectly and I have never had issues with too narrow shoes…
My DNA is French and German but I have Greek feet? How did that happen?
Hello Justine! Great and very useful video as always. I missed your new videos in these quarantine times. Actually, the Japanese one makes most sense, because that’s the measurements in cm of your foot. I am also wearing size 39 and I always was wondering why 39, what’s that? My foot is 25 cm, so my shoes and socks should be the same size! Isn’t?
i hate that girl…….. she is so irritating……………..
Don’t forget if you have been Any type of daNCER OR sports check your feet because you can even get surgeries because they hurt so much.
I have egyptian feet and I like shoes to be more of a housing for my feet. I don’t like any sort of support. The more external support your feet get, the more of a crutch that becomes. It is best to have your own internal physical support structure. I also like my toes not to be restricted within the shoes.
I need a runners channel like GCN
If any content creator is listening GRN please..
I’m finding many of the new boa systems crush the top of the foot downward, vs the older strap systems which angle the top strap more to pull the heel back into the cup. So a lot of boa buckles are more easily adjusted, but hurt the top of the foot and don’t perform as well when climbing due to the angle of the buckle. It took quite a while to figure out why this was happening to me, and may also be related to the height of an individual’s arch.

no wearing orthotics when you dont absolutely need them isnt good for you! youll loose strength in the tiny muscles in your feet, and after many years you wont be able to wean off. ask a physiotherapist, not a foot specialist who is in the business of selling orthotics.
I have a wide foot and a really high arch! I HATE shoe shopping. I resort to always buying boots because they’re the only one that fit. Plus, I walk on the sides of my feet so I find it hard to walk in any sort of heels. The one good thing is I had my feet measured by a professional and they are perfectly symmetrical. At least I have that going for me!
SHIMANO GR 5 2019 THE BEST AND GOOD FOR WALKING AT A GOOD PRICE! RATHER COMFORT THAN PRICE!
Oh… thats why Ballerina shoes are uncomfortable…. they are made for ballerinas.
I guess it’s down to personal preference. I wear waterproof hiking boots when I’m in the lake district. I just wondered what you would wear for a day trip up the old man if coniston etc?
I swear I always thought no 5 is happening to me. I reached from 36 to 38 size now…
Hi Justine,, thanks for this video. I also have narrow “greek” feet with high arch and find it painful to wear heels higher than 2.5 inches because most shoes don’t havear h support and if I insert shoe inserts, closed shoes become tight at the fornt as they push my toes forward. Besides, they come in between my skin and the learher soles . I’m comfortable though with ballet flats as long as it’s leather.
Just found your channel a day ago and can’t stop watching your videos. Learning something new Thank you soo much for your effort!!
Personally i have very very narrow, egyptian (but alot more Extreme in change) long feet. And i find that Nike shoes fit me LIKE A GLOVE! Im a size 40 in Nike. While Adidas is alot wider and they dont really fit me that Well. But those that have fit me “Well enough” are size 39. Ecco shoes also fit me great, quite narrow like Nike.
If a shoe doesn’t have built in arches I won’t buy them. As consumers if we need shoes with arches, we shouldn’t have to buy additional inserts. Yes,maybe the shoe costs more, but an arch made for that shoe feels better.
Hi, thanks for this really useful video. I used your tips to buy my new pair 😉 Thumbs up from Brussels.
I’m 14 years old 4’11 and 80pounds and really skinny I can’t wear any open toe shoes because my feet are to skinny
Omg Justine this is exactly what I was looking for .
I love that they stopped doing shoes with inserts whith arches, I have a flat foot and it was so painful to were one of these, plus I ended up whith a need injury because it was forcing my legs to stay in a weird angle.
you know this is really what annoys me, I dont want to be wearing those road shoes where you cant walk at all. I have two bicycles and I want them to be interchangeable because sometimes I might want to ride to commute. it’s rubbish that the road shoes they never build one that you can walk on.
Sidi Genius shoes are the best period. I have owned three pairs over the last 20 years and all I can say is wow about the shoes. Other brands don’t come close to Sidi quality and fit.
Hey I’m 15 and I’ve recently caught the riding bug, I just bought my first road bike and I was wondering what brand of shoes I should get for smaller feet
buying kangaroo leather should be outlawed its disgusting, most big brands don’t allow kangaroo leather anymore because its unethical (addidas, nike ect..). I’m not vegan or anything but there is a line and kangaroo leather really crosses it for me
So I’m a Egyptian shape but both of my big toes go inwards ( I broke them both when I was little and they did not heal back well) and when I press my feet on the ground my toes spread out ( kinda like a frog) so getting any type of shoe is a nightmare, so I just gave up and use whatever fits most of my feet and roll with it….
I actually think that Japanese, Chinese and Korean use the best shoe sizing. According to this table, the size 25 would correspond to 25cm in foot length, granted not perfectly but more or less. In Korea, as far as I know the shoe size is measured in mm. If my foot is 265mm long, the size of the shoe is 265. The only thing the customer has to know is the actual length of the foot instead of being able to convert that piece of info to sizing charts in different parts of the world
25-30 miles is like 40-50 km per day, that is very bold especially regarding desert like weather and terrain
how can I adjust my cleats to my shimano cycling shoe? pedalsystem is the shimano ultegra.. greets from Germany!
Problem with velcro closing is that it attract all the dirt, hair(from my dog!!!!) and other stuff. Very difficult to clean the velcro.
Ohhh my God I never noticed how especially long your hair is! Exquisite!
Hi Justine, I just come across this very helpful video recently. Not sure if you mentioned it. But can you tell me where you got your customized insoles from? Thanks a bunch!
so buy the cycling shoe first!? then that will determine what type of clips to buy, correct?
I’ve been rocking Crank Bros pedals on my road bike for 13,000 miles. Specialized has a couple of road shoe models with the two bolt cleat on them. So calling them “mountain bike shoes” isn’t entirely accurate.
New to this channel! Its so much helpful with all rare tips that the other channels doesnt convey. You are sweet too!
Subcribed.. whatelse?!
If anyone hear wears a running shoe in size us 11 what size in EUR do you normally buy your cycling shoes?
I got roman feet and I can’t really wear pointy shoes because of my third toe. Sneakers are fine though…
Thank you for making those videos. They’re so informative and helpful
i have egyptian feet but they’re very wide so i suffer in most shoes
I have nearly Greek rupees, the middle toe is a long as the second toe. But the front of my foot is wide, my heel is normal. I also have high arches. The only comfortable shoes are adjustable sandals. I can’t find anything pretty or elegant that fits.
Shoes of Prey has gone under. Anyone have a suggetion for another similar company?
actually you are right my one foot is larger than the other
Which color to buy for SPD shoes used mostly on the road and gravel but will definitely make contact with mud?
Will there be a video on how you walk in those shoes? Road or MTB. A have road shoes and i dont’t know how to walk properly and kip my theet:D
Hi, Justine!
I, too, have Greek feet and a medium arch.
Where do you purchase your insoles?
I’ve been tempted to purchase Dr. School’s insoles, but I’m not sure if they’ll be good.
(Unlike you, I do have back and hip problems and I’m unsure which would be best for me.)
Thanks for such a great video! Always so informative!
On a long road trip, how do you walk around in road shoes? Do you have to travel with a pair of regular shoes if you want to go into a grocery store or a restaurant?
That’s so right… I’ve Egyptian shape and I always have to look for narrow style sneakers! Love sandals on my feet! great video, thanks Justine BACI
Should also try on shoes later in the day when you have been on your feet all day. Feet swell throughout the day.
I never knew why I only feel comfy in boots and sandals, but never in moccasins and other closed pretty shoes. Literally, whenever I search for closed shoes, usually 38 is too small, but 39 tends to be too big. On the other hand, I own a ton of size 38 sandals and 39 boots and they are super comfy.
Now I know it’s because I have a wide Greek foot. Now I know what to look for in shoes.
Thanks Justine ^^
Thanks so much. This video helped me in making a decision which shoes and pedals would work best for me. I ended up getting Shimano Ultegra PD-6800 SPD-SL Pedals and Shimano SH-R088 Road Shoes. My first time using Clipless.pedals. I set the spring tension very low and practiced clipping in and out against the wall to get comfortable. After a bit I ventured out on a bike trail and rode for 31 miles. The next day 19 miles. What I nice experience. Very comfortable. Again thanks for this Video…..and all the rest of your videos as well..
i juzt luv ur channel, ur videos r so simple and they work the best 4 me u ppl r the best, thankyou sooo much
Thank you. Your video is quite helpful and very informative. I’ll be getting my first real pair of hiking shoes or boots soon, and I hope to make a good informed decision. I’ve been researching options online, but ultimately my feet will be making the final decision.
My feet are one horrible nightmare. I have bunions on both feet which causes my toes to look deformed if I move the big toe in an upright position my feet would be considered Egyptian. I need to have my feet done its sad.
Asian shoe size is the most simple, as you just need to measure your feet in centimeters.
What would you use for the nijmegen march with a year of pre-training? Curious
I have egyptian foot but also other problem, i have narrow feet, any sandals are simple too big for me, too broad:/ sucks, i can’t find sandal..
This explains why I’ve always hated athletic shoes, too much space in the toes and they never get tight enough coupled with really high arches so tight laces make then very uncomfortable
I did a 80 miler at Philmont in 2015 and I am going back in 2019, I wore boots before but I’m thinking about wearing a hiking she what is your thoughts?
Take a piece of paper, a bit bigger than your foot. Take shoes and socks of, stand o the paper, draw around your foot. Next time you are shopping for shoes, take this peice of paper with you and when you find shoes you like, take the shoe and put it on the drawing of you foot, and if you can see the drawing then the shoe wont fit.
I got white Shimano shoes and im looking to buy Red Bontragertriple xxx shoes
I like boots and am a bit of traditionalist in that sense Russel but I’ve just purchased some ecco trail shoes, which are really comfortable. I’m up for change if it works. Good info there.. All the best. Mark
In my opinion I look for comfort and durability, as someone with narrow feet I went with Sidi Wires
What do you suggest if one was to get just one hiking shoe for all possible situations? Not too expensive and not cheap…something to last for a while…The Swiss Army knife of hiking shoes?
I have never tried clip less i ride MTB E bike. How can i try without buying them? Never used them! Im 50 goofy footed maybe not for me?
I will buy a new shoes, because my previous shoes broke when I crash last week. Should I buy a MTB shoes like the previous one or should I upgrade to Road bike Shoes? Now I have MTB clipless pedal on my Schwinn Road Bike.
A very helpful one guys! Thanks a lot. I have broad toe, what kind of high heels should I wear? I couldn’t find a suitable one.
Darling you are so knowledgeable,, I love all your videos, new sub here from ireland
For others just seeing this, Shoes of Prey has shut down business operations. Wish I’d known about them sooner.: (
Where do you get custom insoles in the US? I walk miles everyday and have high arches. Flats kill my legs and drain my energy.
I came across this youtube in the UK. He talks a lots of sense. Great information which I will apply to my next shoe purchase. Thank you.
Just so everybody knows, to save you time, nobody, and i mean NOBODY makes an extra wide MTB shoe. Anything in the triple E or wider does not exist. If somebody says they do, they are lying! I wasted thousand on shoes in the last 2 years.
Hi there, I am woundering: what do you think about barefootshoes?
Subscribed! Really cool video. Interesting to watch. I’m new to making videos and would appreciate you taking a look and any feedback you want to give. And if you want to subscribe. Up to you, thanks!
Wow, so much relevant information of the topic very few utubers touch i.e shoe size. I have learned so much from your videos Justine. You are knowledgeable, relevant and cultured. I only discovered your channel recently and have happily subscribed. I am a woman looking for authentic information and am glad that I found your channel. Please keep uploading videos and thanks once again. Cheers!!!
Does your adorable blue top say stay orange if so please where can I purchase this! Love your channel thank you for all the helpful practical info and hard work put into your content. ❤
Heels are stupid. They don’t look sexy and damage spine. If you can’t walk properly and still wear them to look tall/pretty etc you’re stupid af.
I think ill use mountain bike shoes evem for my road bike cause i can just get of my bike without changing shoes and also have the good feeling of “being clipped in”
White shoes! <3
I use MTB shoes since I can walk or go to the gym after cycling with it.
My Converse high tops have worked for me since the 60s. No need to change now.
I do want to try clipless pedals.. I have a hybrid and want a grippy shoe that can be used to walk in like the mountain bike shoes.
Are there decent ones for $50-80?
The black and red ones match my bike.
I wear custom sports orthotics: should I wear them with road shoes?
Thank you for a very informative episode! I have some foot problems, så my insoles are probably thicker than yours and I can only wear shoes where I can fit my own insoles. This leaves med with a very limited range of models, and it’s really hard to find shoes that are not frumpy. For winter, it’s usually OK, but no high heals and only chunky shoes for summer. Sneakers can sometimes work, but for the most part their insoles which can be taken out are som much thinner than mine, so it gets too tight with both my insoles and my foot. Spanish brand Camper is a nice exception. It would be lovely to get a fashion take on what kind of shoes people with my needs can wear, and especially with dresses, in the summer etc.
Man i love this channel. No matter what question i type into youtube, you guys always have a video for it!
Looks like im the only one who Used a Flat Shoes in a race
Looks like I have Egyptian feet that are semi-wide (9.5 cm wide). My feet are only 22.5 cm long. It’s hard to find small yet wide shoes. I also have narrow 33 cm calves. Boots are hard to shop for! I wish more shoes came in a wide width =(
Let’s be honest: trendy shoes has deformed our feets, torturing the little ones My pinky toes is a ball now
Will you do a video on whats better Pros and Cons, buckles, boa, velcro, and now laces? thanks!
Whatever this guy recommends is going to cost a fortune….this channel is anti-youth and anti-poor
Hey Justine, I also have custom made insoles, but how do you fit them in delicate shoes like ballerinas? They are usually too big, no?
This was the most comprehensive video i have seen on youtube with regards to factors one needs to consider while purchasing a shoe and i would say I have tried to search and watch a lot of videos because I didn’t want to mess up with my shoe selection particularly the size of the shoe. And your video definitely helped me clear up a few doubts. So thanks for that. But weirdly my normal shoe size in day to day shoes is 7 and the best fit after considering all the criterias for me is coming out at size 9 and that too the wide variant of that model (Salomon x ultra 3 wide mid gtx). Although size 8 fits just fine but there is little gap in front of the toe and my fifth finger is touching the side of the shoe. This does make me wonder does this much of size difference really happen!
But, you definitely have the ability to make really nice comprehensive videos with lot of clarity, so keep them going i would say!!
Don’t forget your feet will change with each pregnancy as well. Instead of my feet getting wider they got longer. I went from a 9.5 size shoe to a 10.5after two pregnancies. So, if you are looking at a pair of shoes that might be an investmentlike a super expensive pair of boots or heels and planning on getting pregnant in the next yearthen don’t buy them. More than likely they won’t fit after the pregnancy.
Everybody is not equal, some people are able to build up their ankle muscles some are not. It’s only psychological to those with no problems, to those of us with weak ankles, it is a very real problem.
Damn, so I can’t wear sneakers anymore.. thanks Egyptian foot.:(
I have bunions especially on my right foot. I have Egyptian feet. It’s so difficult for me to find shoes and sandals that are both comfortable and chic. I also have difficulty finding the right shoes for dancing tango! Any videos on dance shoes?!:) That would include tango shoes and practice shoes. I literally can’t tolerate heels anymore:(
There are shoes that can handle both types of cleats. Spiuk Altube R for example.
can you give some tips on what to judge while buying shoes online?
My personal choice are Zol road shoes, I needed a manufacturer that just makes shoes and gloves and ones that makes road shoes that goes with SPD pedas
I am confused because I wear the same size in US athletic shoes and US normal shoes.
Thanks for sharing it’s was useful to know and as usual I really enjoyed your simple explanation
I think a section covering the various makes is super important: brands like fizik, sidi and mavic don’t suit people with broad feet, giro is fantastic for comfort
What about shoes which r not covered? Should there also be a gap between tallest toe tip and the point?
I like MTB SPDs for my recreational riding but many MTB shoes are clunky or flexible so I have Shimano RT Road Touring shoes. Reasonably wide fitting too.
If you have a narrow foot, you can’t beat Sidi’s. great ventilation, heal retention system, great looking and I’ve had my sidi wires for 2 and a half years and they’re still unbelievably good.
Pooja i love u. Your tips are always useful. Thanks for the tips
What is the pricing of insoles? Did you get them in Germany?
To a road bike is it possible to use MTB cleats and shoe? If yes or no what are the advantages and science involved in it?
I wonder if you could give some tips regarding shopping shoes online. I ordered a pair of stilettos once after measuring my feet and checking the size chart still one shoe fits larger than the other and so that pair has become unusable. I’d specifically appreciate tips regarding how to buy shoes online when your feet are not of the same size (The fact that 6 people out of 10 have one foot smaller than the other)
I’m a 12 year old and all I care about a shoe is that it’s got a niceeeeee style and lightweight.
I have measured the vamps of wide and medium shoes….their soles are wider but the vamps are not making the depth even narrower than a medium width. I have a wide foot and a high instep….watch how the ties on oxfords are constructed. A seam across the instep can cause severe pain if it hits that nerve…we all have shoes that were such a bargain or are so so cute but kill. Donate them…let them kill someone else.
Hey man! do you have any tips for a guy like me that got a size of 10 inches around the ball of the feet?
Wide feet? Shimano shoes always fit me best. If anyone knows other brands with a wide toe box, let me know.
I had a nightmare of a time with my feet at Philmont. I had blisters on the heel bottom and the area just behind the middle toe on both feet. I had the waterproof high-top leather boots. These boots are great for me on weekend hikes but didn’t work well at Philmont. I really hate getting my feet wet from the morning dew, but I think my next boot will be a high-top non-waterproof trail runner.
In addition to blisters I also had numbness on my big toes. This lasted many month after Philmont so don’t be alarmed if you notice these symptoms. I think I had those toes slamming into the toe box as described in the video.
Of course a lighter back is also a plus. My pack had too many things that were never used.
So, I’d like to pick up some MTB shoes but would like to run SPD-SL cleats. Is there a way to do this? I completely understand that this is wrong. However, I’d like to also pick up the Garmin Vector 2 and it’s only available for road shoe cleats. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
+GlobalCyclingNetwork Would really appreaciate a reply to this. I recently bought a pair of Bontrager RL road shoes and am really happy with them. On my latest ride however, the ratchet strap on the right shoe keeps losening itself. Its been really annoying and I cant seem to find anyone else with the same problem as me….
Doesn’t the addition of insoles require you to go a size or half a size bigger?
My wide short fat feet never fit any cycling shoes on the right on the market
do cycling shoes come with cleats or do you but then Separately
what’s the best shoes for road biking that doesn’t use clips
A video about tips on smelly shoes and smelly socks please:P
Thank you!
My left toe is Greek whike my right foot is Egyptian, weird
Another wonderful lesson! I have Egyptian flat feet, have insoles for my shoes and now try to get moderate kitten heels or really good quality walking shoes. Clark’s is a good company. I am also going to get two new pair of shoes from SAS, also a good company.
agony is buying these shoes and you are afraid of falling together with the bike.
I have Greek feet and just go ahead and get a smaller size in sneakers
Noob question: are there any good data on how much of a performance difference cycling shoes make vs. regular running shoes? It seems inconvenient to carry an extra pair when commuting, and cost is obviously a factor as well, so I’m not sure if it’s a justifiable purchase for me or not.
Hi, Russel! Have just watched Your great video on footwear. I am going to the Mediterranean this August and looking for the Urban/ light one day hiking footwear that would be light and breathable at one point and be able to withstand occasional showers at the other. Is membrane crucial for the matter, or watter repellent is enough? I guess, the terrain might be sometimes rocky, with a lot of ascends and descends. Yours sincerely, Karen
I think your scenarios were a bit too advanced. If I’m hiking 500+ miles, I’d be no beginner to the ‘hiking show game’. What about several 5-10mi trails 2-3 times a day for a week vacation? Beginner stuff
I was exploring the wonderful depth of GCN videos and watched this classy guide. Interestingly Si said never where two pairs of cycling socks? I may be superstitious but I now wear two pairs every time I race as I’ve only ever finished in the lead group with two pairs compared to being dropped with one pair
Hi Justine, thanks a lot for all the info! Where do you get your soles? Are they prescription soles from a doctor?
I’m not sure if anyone else has asked this question but.. Should you Purchase your first Cycling Shoes from your Local Bike Store? or is purchasing cycling shoes from an online store sufficient enough for your first pair? Any thoughts?
After purchasing new shoes, Ive noticed my feet hurt whilst cycling. is it the shoe or cleat position causing this?
Hello I am a beginner at road cycling, if I buy a Shimano SPD pedal does the cleat come with the pedal and then the cleat bolts to the shoes?
sad, I have been a subscriber for so long and I have never seen this until now. This was very helpful, thanks.
I got bunions by age 20 from wearing soccer-style sneakers (fairly narrow) on my Egyptian feet while doing farm work where we had to lean all the wayforward (grafting roses) for hours at a time. Tons of pressure on my toes. Big regrets.
Great advice regarding type of shoe, but what type of sock do you wear, in particular to avoid blisters? TIA.
I have large wide feet (size 13) where is the best place to go and get some?
I love my Bont Blitz and only £79.99 of Merlin cycles at the moment. Only 11 grams heavier than the Specialized s works 6 road shoes which are £310. Great bargain also stiff and lightweight.
The stiff shank in the heavy boots protect the bottoms of your feet from getting bruised on rocks when hiking in mountainous terrain. When I wore trail runners I ended up with painful bruises on the bottom of my feet.
A nice girl with a beautiful face, a nice voice and a pretty accent giving good tips.

Edit: just bagged a pair of Altra LP 4.5 from my local indie Jog Shop in Brighton. One step closer. Thanks for your reviews:)
I am afraid most of the shoes degenerate our feet by pushing the big toe inside and we cannot move naturally. I wonder why there are no “normal” shoes around that allow enough space for the toes…like the barefoot shoes!

I make it easy flat pedals with (tennis) court-style shoes. Shoes are stiff enough for some riding benefit, but easy to walk in too. I just jump on any of my bicycles and off I go for a nice ride, nothing complicated or expensive about it. And since I’m not ‘maximizing efficiency’ by using bicycle-specific shoes I get a little better work-out benefit. Cheers
I’m always looking for comfort when I buy shoes. These tips will be helpful, thanks Pooja!!!!!!!!!
Love this! Really comprehensive. I’ve always wondered why I seemed to need a bigger fit in my trail shoes (and why ones closer to my ‘real’ size don’t fit right). You’ve helped me see why:)
why not just wear regular tennis shoes in case you need to walk I don’t see the point in having special biking shoes
I got excited when you mentioned making custom shoes through Shoes of Prey, but discovered that they are no longer in production. I can’t tell if they’re taking a (long) break or if they went out of business entirely. Anyways, I love your videos and have learned so much from you! Never was much into fashion (or related topics), but you make it far more accessible to me. Thanks! Keep up the great work!
just got my new Northwave sonic 2 plus. Amazing shoes. after 6 years of riding with 30 euro supermarker shoes..wich are still good btw i finally bought better ones.
Is there any performance difference between road and cross shoes when I ride a road bike? I mean power transfer and so on.
I have cross ones for my road bike, they have hard sole and work pretty well for me.

Hello Justine,
Would you mind sharing where you got your insoles, please?
Also, some info about them, such as type, material,…etc for the insole novices would be super helpful:). Thank you in advance and thank you for the reliably great content as well. Kindly, Judit
It is so helpful thanks pooja and you earned a new subcriber!
Hi Justine! Thank you for the video:) Where do you go to get customized insoles? Do they fit with all your shoes?
Can anyone help, I need a trail shoe with firm sole wide toe box and flex at the toe and loads of cushions inside, please help.
So what shoes do I buy for the Crossfire 2 bicycle. Regular pedals as I am a beginner to everyday cycling.
Thanks in advance!
Thank you pooja….your suggestions are exactly what I needed…Thanks a lot
I wear a pair of Serfas road shoes because I have a very wide but short foot. I wear size 41 and they fit perfectly because they run wide. I’m so afraid to spend more money on other brands thinking they are too narrow for my Fred Flintstone feet.
thanks for giving such nice tips they r very [email protected]
I love CLARKS shoes ❤️ my foot shape is Greek but arthritis has deformed them, so it is also square and I need wide shoes always
We have bunions in the family, mine are still ok but my mom has them really bad, grandma as well. They never really wore pointy heels as far as I know. I hope they will not get much worse with time…
I have “Roman” feet, except they are also wide at the front, narrow at the heel, and flat like a duck. Any brand recommendations?

that’s very useful but i need one more advice…… the white shoes that u show in video,i like that kind of shoes but after 20 or 30 min my feet starts to slip through front, sometimes for no reason, sometimes sweating because of nervousness………… so what should I do?
If road shoes with road cleats are so impractical for walking wouldn’t most riders want to get similar sleek looking MTB shoes instead? I’m a beginner road cyclist and I’ve already done some short trips under 50 km. Totally enjoying it but I’m definitely starting to notice that flat pedals and trainers don’t cut it. It’s slippery and unstable, and my feet hurt the next day. But since I do a few stops on the way to refill my bottle (tropical climate so lots of drinking involved), eat a meal and of course answer nature’s calls, there’s some inevitable walking involved. Those are the times I am very happy with my flat trainers and I wouldn’t want to trade that in for clumsy duck walks unless there are some definite benefits of road shoes over MTB shoes. I just don’t see the appeal of road shoes other than when you’re in a race where aerodynamics and weight are of paramount importance. Please enlighten me.:)
