It’s been day 3 since I’ve been walking 10,000 steps daily and I’ve actually seen a difference. I mean I know it’s day 3 and I don’t expect a HUGE drastic change but I’ve noticed that my stomach looks flatter:) definitely gonna continue this and recommend those who are interested to loose weight!

I think this guy is actually right. A high intensity interval training program is recommended for people who have less than 15-18% body fat. 10,000 steps will help people who have more than 30% body fat.

I enjoyed watching this video. I am someone that enjoys walking the 10,000 steps per day. I see there are many negative comments under this video. He never said for us to stop doing it, he just was providing us with the research. Actually, 6 minutes into the video, he states the benefits of walking 10,000 steps per day. He is just saying don’t let this be the only option that we utilize to lose weight, to burn fat. He’s right about saying that people that were sedentary started to move more and move on to other forms of fitness. Walking helped me not so much lose weight, but helped me to be more conscious of my eating habits, and I wanted to live a healthier lifestyle. He does an excellent job giving us the facts and allowing us to determine for ourselves what works best for us. He never promotes or shoves only one option on us. Love your content Edward V❤❤❤. It was found that the participants’ body weight, body composition (BMI, body fat, and abdominal fat), and waist circumference decreased significantly, while baseline fitness (muscle strength and flexibility) improved significantly.” small sample size to be sure but it is a clinical study that disproves your point.
I really find this video is misleading. The report you shown was just for freshman college women, a very unique sample size.
If a person has lives a sedentary lifestyle of less than 4000 steps a day increases there step count to 10,000 steps a day and they have a bmi of 25 or above they will lose weight. your video touches on the benefits of better muscle gains and most likely a lower bmi but your title can lead people to think walking is pointless and they should not do it. I was really liking your intermittent fasting videos but after this video I will be watching no more.
I disagree with this your first one 4 years ago I was 343 I began walking and I lost 120 by walking and my diet now I do strength training and resistance bands and I’m now 156 goal weight 140 and I know it’s all due to walking and Gallon of water and diet so to each it’s on

If you walk 5 miles a day (10k steps) Eat at a caloric deficit. You’re going to lose weight. No matter how many studies come out with their varying opinions it’ll always boil down to thermodynamics.
The golden rule to weight loss “Eat less move more” That’s it. That’s all you need to know. Start logging your food and getting a moderate amount of excessive a day and you’ll see results.

I have watched all ur videos, but this is probably the first video that I disagree with. I am of the view that walking is probably one of the most underrated exercise and it burns a lot of calories. For the last 3 months, I make it a habit to walk atleast 20,000 steps everyday coupled with intermittent fasting. To me walking is the simplest exercise out there and it helps an individual to release stress as any other exercise do and also improve their cardiovascular system. For any beginners, 10k is the base from which they can start.
Great video. I usually walk a 100 step circuit in my house (about 5 circuits each hour) for my steps, but I have a mini stepper so I’ll give it a try it would definitely add some variety into the mix. My Fitbit is the Charge 2. Love it!
They had no control for the study…..plus they didn’t track their daily calorie intake. So the result is non conclusive.
How about marching in one spot is that considered walking..or knee highs?
I’m walking about 10k steps a day and losing weight but I also adjusted my eating habits. Now I eat at the same times every day. I eat until just before I’m full then I don’t eat again until the next feeding window. So for me that is 6pm, 2am, 8am (I’m a night shifter). This eliminates snacks. Some times I get a but hungry but I just push through until the next feeding window. So far so good. My real goal is to burn 500 cals a day which 10K steps up hill seems to accomplish.
You don’t need a damn study to know walking every day is GOOD for you…

I disagree with you…this time. I was inactive for close to a year and a half and gained a lot of weight. I started off at 5000 steps and lost a little over 20 pounds. 8000 steps and was taken off blood pressure meds, heart murmur undetectable, skin improved, eczema disappeared. Now I’m doing 10,000 and my mental clarity has improved, my measurements are different, the weight has slowed but I consistently loose. I believe any amount of activity is good overall for health. I also believe that walking alone can make a HUGE difference in health concerns compared to other exercises.

Hi Carlo, I’ve been walking about 15K steps per day for the past month, consume between 1500-2000 calories per day and I’m just maintaining my existing weight. What am I doing wrong?
I fast 13 to 15 hours, do calorie deficit and walk 4 to 6 miles a day. I break fast with bullet roofo coffee and low carb and high protien and some fruit. I am not hungry or tired and have lost plenty of weight. I just stopped driving places unless it’s in a totally different city
Having walked 10k-15k everyday, the past 2 weeks, while I have not lost weight I have lost 2.5 inches at my thighs, hips, chest, shoulders and waist. Something different is I’m making healthier food choices and ensuring that I meet my sedentary BMR (1817) and don’t compensate for my activity. My calorie deficit is maybe 200-300 a day. My cholesterol has gone from 204 to 191. So, while the 10k steps was a sales ploy for the first pedometer there are a number of studies (ADA, AHA, APA and others) that show walking just 30 minutes a day (approximately 2,500-3,000 steps) results in lower bad cholesterol, improved mood, better sleep, lower risk of heart disease, lower risk of diabetes. Then, there’s Possible Pat who dropped 100lbs in 60 days just walking 6-9 miles a day at 605lbs. The bottom line is that Pat as well as myself made and make healthier food choices along with walking. All the studies about walking 30 minutes also include that walking with a healthy diet (not dieting, just healthy food choices) result in all I listed above and weight loss.
For me walking is the best option I can walk 3 hours daily but I can’t exercise 10 minutes daily

The biggest limitation to that study is that they failed to record whether or not the participants were actively using a “diet” or eating a reduced caloric intake diet. Since diet plays a bigger role in weight loss than exercise does the results of the data recorded doesn’t necessarily paints the WHOLE picture. It also depends whether or not these these participants were obese or overweight as the heavier you are the easier it is too lose weight. & the leaner you are the harder it is to lose weight

Wow, excellent video. Yes, during this couple of months under this current situation, we actually need to be emphasizing just how important it is to walk consistently every day. And this is especially for senior citizens. Walking to work, to the store, to the park are great ways to improve one’s life, instead of driving anywhere. Just walking the dog has made a great impact on people’s lives. Definitely I don’t mind the lower production when you are giving more information and sharing personal anecdote which just enrich your content. Note: I cannot wait for your video about running.

This makes zero sense to me. If a person walks 10,000 steps it means they are putting in additional activity. Walking has long been known as a good healthy habit so how can you say it does nothing??

If you want to lose weight while walking, of course you need to be in a greater than 12 hours, fasted state. 16 is better.

I am not able to leave the house for so long these days. I do have an old treadmil at home. Would it work the same? I really enjoy walking outside but if I take the kids, I am stressed the whole time and just give up.

This randomly popped up for me. This study made zero sense. 10k steps is 1 hr of activity. They could have also proved that working out for an 1 hour a day does nothing or lifting an 1 hr a day does nothing because these people did not create a caloric deficit. This is asinine. Even IF wont work if you eat over your daily caloric target during your eating window. If you are not in a deficit you will not lose weight. Period. And they gained muscle just by walking. The problem was obviously that with their increased activity, their appetites increased. So they ate more of what they already ate instead of making smarter choices or chugging water to deal with increased appetite.
Few people gain muscle without also gaining fat. So really the study proved that even a basic activity like walking can increase lean tissue which will help burn more calories at rest. Obviously diet is 95% of any weight loss plan. That’s why pro athletes have chefs even though they burn far more calories than the average person!
It’s not much but when accompanied with 1hr exercise. it can do wonders.

I walked 15k steps everyday for 100 days a couple of years ago. I lost 14kg, about 30 pounds during the period. I ate my everyday meals as usual so I can say my walking routine was the main reason for my weight loss
This is quite timely for me. I used to be a gym rat back in the day and never thought of it as a chore. I loved it. But, life got in the way and I didn’t have the time anymore. I’ve been sedentary for a lot of years and know that no matter how much you need to do something, you won’t until you’re ready. Now I’m ready, but don’t have access to a gym. I would only walk outside on weekends. I was trying to figure out how to exercise in my apartment. I clicked on your channel randomly and found this. I think I’ll give it a try along with plenty of stretching and light weight workouts. I’m going to take it slowly because I’m not a spring chicken, but I’d like to see a bit of my old self again. so doing a study on weight without calculating calories and telling that 10000 steps a day over 5000 steps a day on average doesn’t make a difference, is a good way to check stuff? Don’t really like that study. 10000 steps over 5000 steps is a difference of 300 calories a day for an average male. That’s 2100 calories a week. Not checking the calorie intake is a big mistake in this study. And if there’s no difference in cardiovascular endurance then how come they gained over 50 % muscle mass in the weight they gained? There must be a real flaw in this test and you should be able to see such a problem before you make a video about it.

I walked an hour a day every single day for 8 months straight 4 years ago and lost so much weight. 20 kilos ish. I didn’t change my diet too much just cut out bread and any junk food what so ever. 2 years ago I put it all back on due to mental health problems. The past 11 days I’ve gotten back into it walking 12,000 steps a day and being careful what I eat.
I know the pay off will come again and I’m so happy I got motivated enough to start again! I can vouch that this works. You really just need to stick with it and watch your food. Also don’t obsess over the number on your scales.. Good luck everyone!

1. Wakeup earlier to get the best result…. empty stomach walking is extremely powerful
2. I will eat only my homemade foods… extremely no to soft drinks and sugar

Great Breakfast.. normal lunch.. no dinner… if I felt very hungry in night after my walking I’ll take 2dates and 1banana or 1 glass of milk (finish ur dinner before 8) and i didn’t intake anything except water until next day 8oclock (12 hours of intermediate fasting -where most of this fasting will go under ur sleepingtime)
4. I’ll keep my steel water bottle always with me to sip water to avoid thirsty and hungry feel..
5. Wear ur old clothes..Get motivated..try to fit in that… avoid weight checking instead of measure ur inches in hips thighs and waist and get motivated..
6. Only intake vit c fruits juice like lemon and orange… other than that eat all fruits as a fruit not as a juice
7. I’ll do plank if a felt hungry instead of craving… Do some funny hip movements…hand claps..aerobics to refresh whenever you feel boring,instead of simply sitting and using mobile..
8. Write down ur every walking and workout details in a diary… write down some motivating quotes to feel ur inner progress
9. stretching is very important before and after walking which will never make u feel tired… know ur cramp pain and fat burning difference….dont confuse both… use moisturizer in ur body sometimes to avoid strechmarks
10. Consistent-when you are addicted to fat loss… u ll never go back Once u start to wake up earlier you already won half of the day

Home cooked meals) changes in sleep, different roommates, stress level have something to do with these findings? I’d think that all these factors could produce different outcomes. A 50 year old and this sample have very different lifestyles.
What I do is walk for three minutes and then jog, for 30 seconds do that for a month and then increase it every month. Trust me if you’re out of shape running 30 seconds is a big deal.

I really think this video is super important. I was about 30 lbs overweight from alcoholism and had spent about 7 years pretty much in bed drinking and living with, hiding from, an abusive partner. No surprise that my body had radically deteriorated in that time; previously I swam a LOT and had a dog who loved to walk and took for granted the 2 hours we put in together. Imagine my surprise, sober vegan and liberated that I needed a walker. It’s taken me 2 years to get in 10,000 daily steps, incorporating stretching and 2x wk core muscle strength training and another beloved dog to feel normal again, even during C19 period. A HUGE lesson. TX!!! My diet is different from yours but we agree on all the important points health wise. Ethically I’m happy to not eat animal anything I lived in France at the beginning of this journey oy veh that was an experience!! Excellent opportunity to explain my eating choices while improving my language skills:) TX again, love your videos, and shout out to anyone who feels shame about why they are not fit. That first step on a journey of a 1000 miles can begin any time, any age!

Hey again, I’ve tried to hit 12,000 steps consistently, I average around 11,000 over the past 9 months, since I got me versa:), but it’s been really hard to stay consistent since the lockdown (in India) but still managing around 10k a day. Of course walking 10k steps will assist in losing weight, simple reason being that you will burn calories and be in more of a calorie deficit. If one is sedentary and ups their steps or even movement in general then over a period of say a month that person will lose weight, it’s very simple science. What a silly video. It’s irresponsible to express to people that movement won’t do them any good when in truth it has numerous benefits.

I am sorry to break the news, unless you shock the body you can’t lose weight. You can run/walk millions of miles you will see hardly any change. You will lose your bones before you lose weight. All the people who are reporting weight loss are due to diet deficit. Human body evolved over thousands of years facing famine & bounty seasons.
For old people walking is good, because their body moved to survival state and in that state any stress will kill them. For rest of the people whatever benefits you are seeing from controlled diet will vanish once you start pigging out.
Don’t spend too much time on walking, try to build strength slowly, weight doesn’t matter. Just gather enough strength so that you can sprint. Let body manage the weight and you manage the strength and exhaustion in whatever excercising you choose.

Your opinions here, and unsubstantiated claims (why put “study after study after study” but cite 0 of them in the description), are possibly going to HURT someone who is starting from a base of sedentary lifestyles. Someone who would have just started with walking, now thinks that won’t do anything, and thinks they need to run a marathon, will just get discouraged from STARTING at all and lapse into being unhealthy.

Walking is the best, along with some weight training. But even walking 6 miles a day will really give your glutes an amazing workout. I used to run 5 miles a day when I was younger (49 now); walking will make you lose weight. Good diet. Also, since quarantine, I’ve been doing intermittent fasting/ highly recommend. Easy for me to go 16 hours without eating. Maybe because I work in tv and movies as a painter and scenic artist. So we are constantly moving for 12 hours a day. I know this works. Also, we are always carrying heavy things, like 5 gallon buckets of paint. I’m fortunate and love my job: instantly the pounds fall off, the muscle shoes off. Been in this industry for 29 years. I could not do a desk job. Plus, you can wear fun paint clothes every day and headscarves and whatever cool designer stuff you get from the thrift store and not give a crap about getting paint on them. I’m looking forward to getting back to work. I live in Los Angeles. you can also have the opportunity to sell your paint clothes, hahaaaaa. I think a better way to state this finding is that 10,000 steps did not show benefits that COULD BE MEASURED. Bc even if no weight loss occurred, there is definitely a benefit. Even if that benefit is a better state of mind.

This video is #TRUTH!!! During this quarantine I decided to take back my health and walked 10K steps/daily AND fast (36hrs) every other day! I ate what I wanted on my feast day averaged 2300 calories 200 carbs and lost only 7lbs in 2 weeks!!! It is truely what you eat!! However I did lose 3 inches off my waist! These two weeks should’ve been my biggest weight lost but its not. So essentially I was losing a lb/day for each day I did not eat!
My heart rate is is always high. So i dont think there is a way to avois that for me.

I read the study, and the main problem is the demographic this was based on. These kids at college are often drinking copious amounts of alcohol, eating badly due to being away from home, and are under new types of stress. They’re not the usual population thus this study does not extend out towards the gen pop. 56% of the weight gain of the students was lean tissue. It was reported that there wasn’t any change to energy intake, but I call bullshit on that. Unless the researchers gave each of the 3 conditions a particular diet to strictly follow then there is going to be way too much variability in the data to be able to observe a concrete answer to the hypothesis. They also had no control group. The study basically says that due to the stressful environment new students are in, they have to work harder to keep the weight gain off and that 10k steps won’t cut it.
Most likely, for the gen pop, it will be beneficial.

Wrongg I lost a lot of weight in the first year of college because I was an agriculture student so we had a lot of field work plus going to and fro from hostel 3-4 times a day really helped! Plus standing 2 hours in lab! At the end of the day we were famished and so tired that we ate 2 bowls of noodles before dinner and still lost weight!!

I just finished 10.000 steps for the day and burned 200 calories, how does that not do anything? Calories in and calories out matters also helps lower stress which we all know helps in weight loss and overall health.
It does work. I have tried walking 10,000 steps for 4 days. My stomach and thighs have come down in size. You have to watch what you are eating though. I walked 12,000 steps yesterday and burnt off 800 calories. Move more, eat less you will loose weight.

I took a look at the study and it compared 3 groups to each other: 10K, 12.5K and 15K daily steps. They didn’t compare those to a control group (a group that was sedentary) and they list that as a limitation of the study. There were also some other limitations. They only concluded that the 3 groups were about the same in terms of weight change, i.e. Going above the 10K recommendation didn’t give extra benefit (Direct quote: “A step recommendation beyond 10,000 does not prevent weight or fat gain over the first year of college.”) They did NOT say that 10K doesn’t do anything.
Considering I lost 40 pounds in 3 months by simply walking 10K steps a day, I can’t agree with you here

I have been walking 9km for 20 days (approximately 11,000 steps) in a speed of 9:14 minutes per km; stop eating too much sweets and eating more veggies and small portions and I have definitely notice a huge change; In this time I have lost 3 kg and volume, jeans that did not fit before, now they fit perfectly, I sleep like a baby and everyday the body it self ask me to go out and walk. I am very happy for the results and I will keep doing it. It is so relaxing to walk in the park or in the forest for body and mental health.

So just to prove this video wrong went out and walked now this being once not over time in thay time I walked 13190 steps covering 6.11 miles and burning 786 calories burned now seeing this losing nearly HALF of your daily amount and as this study is a red hairing with these people not being active before and not eating right most likely is the reason why they didn’t lose weight in fact gained weight if you eat right and walk 10,000 steps you will lose weight

Nonesense! Since January I’ve being loosing an average of 6 to7 lbs a month walking 10,000 steps a day five days a week, along with 12 hours intermittent fasting, which incidently I had always done way before this intermittent fasting fad became popular. I usually don’t eat anything after 5:00 pm until breakfast at around 7:00 am the following morning. Which goes to show you that walking that many steps does work. This is coming from a guy who used to walk 15 to 20,000 steps a day three to four times a wek; which I had to adjust because I am a lot older now; as it has become way overkill for my body to walk 8 to 10 miles a day.

ok but the average calorie intake for the study was 2115 ± 527 kcal. And while this is a relatively healthy amount, unless these women were burning over 500-700 calories a day, a slight calorie deficit (around 200 to 500) along with the walking would be necessary for substantial weight/fat loss. And there are hundreds of other studies that prove that this “challenge” works. Also just walking around 5,000 steps a day, decreases your risk for mortality:)
Walking is a good form of LISS (low intensity steady state). I do strength training and Pilates and when I added walking in, my overall flexibility improved for some reason. Plus I have more energy during the day. Not sure why ♀️

I started doing the 10,000 a day steps challenge on 14th April at first it was taking me 1 hour and 40 minutes to complete it was hard! I’ve to date not missed one day and have lost 13 lbs literally just sticking to my 10,000 steps a day it now takes me 58 minutes to complete which motivates me every day to to complete it faster! So for anyone like me who doesn’t enjoy the gym just walk walk walk and it does eventually pay off I noticed my clothes fitted better and my body shape under my chest changed first before I even weighed myself!

I had a paunch which was unseemly. Got on to intermittent fasting by having my dinner at 1845 hrs( 0645 PM).Started on 01 Jun 19.
I used to have breakfast at 0740 before leaving for office. Roughly fasted for 13 hrs.

Yeah… no, I’ve lost 15 pounds so far walking a daily 10k and it hasn’t taken very long. Same diet. There are better ways to exercise I’m sure but this takes little to no effort.
