In some countries, people may translate their title as “nutritionist” rather than “dietitian,” though their educational background closely resembles that of a dietitian. In the United States, the.Differences Between a Dietitian and Nutritionist Dietitians. A dietitian is an expert in dietetics, a branch of knowledge concerned with diet and its effects on health.
Nutritionists. In the United States, the title “nutritionist” can be applied to anyone who offers general nutritional Other. In general, “dietitian” is a much more regulated term that “nutritionist.” And according to Berkeley Wellness at the University of California, a good way to remember which is which is with the saying: All registered dietitians are nutritionists but not all nutritionists are registered dietitians. Ready for things to get complicated? One of the major differences is that a dietitian can help to diagnose eating disorders or help plan meals for the managing of symptoms of health problems.
While nutritionists can certainly offer support in these areas, most of their work deals with food behavior.Registered dietitians, or R.D.s, are the leading experts on food nutrition, science, and education in the country, says Delbridge. While some R.D.s also refer to themselves as registered dietitian.Key difference:Dietitians and nutritionists advise people on matters of food and nutrition. A dietitian is a trained and licensed practitioner, subject to professional regulation, while a nutritionist is not.
Many people assume that there is no difference between a “dietitian” and a “nutritionist.”.Many people mistakenly use the terms “dietitian” and “nutritionist” interchangeably. Although these two professions are undoubtedly related, they maintain distinctive qualities.
The biggest difference between dietitians and nutritionists lies in the legal restrictions that each title carries. Only nutritionists that become registered with Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) may legally declare themselves. This page explains the differences between the roles and functions of dietitians, nutritionists and nutritional therapists. Dietitians are the only nutrition professionals to be regulated by law, and are governed by an ethical code to ensure that they always work to the highest standard.A “nutritionist” is probably the loosest term of them all.
A “nutritionist” is a person who advises on matters of food and nutrition impacts on health. Unlike dietitians, the nutritionist profession is much less protected under the law.Dietitians are food and nutrition experts while nutritionists are those who work as nutrition advisers. 2. Dietitians usually have degrees, are accredited and registered with a national board while nutritionists may or may not have a degree or be accredited with any board.
3.More than 1/3 of responders did not know the difference between someone who is a registered dietitian, RD (or registered dietitian/nutritionist, RDN — both titles can be used by dietitians), and someone who calls themselves a nutritionist or one of the many sub-categories: holistic nutritionist, certified nutritionist, health coach, nutrition.Learning the difference between dietitian and nutritionist can help you make an informed choice about the kind of nutrition therapy you’ll be getting, and to judge the authorship of advice, especially online. Although the two titles seem very similar, there are key differences between a dietitian and a nutritionist, and your choice will.
In Australia there is a distinction made between dietitians and other occupations in the nutrition and food science field, including that of a nutritionist. A nutritionist may be a tertiary qualified nutrition professional that has the expertise to provide a range of evidence based nutrition services related to nutrition, public health nutrition, policy and research, and community health. The difference between a nutritionist and a dietitian might seem hard to spot from a distance. Without looking into it, they seem like two different terms for the same thing – they’re both professionals that offer advice in the field of public health, right? The main difference between a dietitian (only those with the APD title) and a nutritionist is that APDs have gone on to further study and are qualified to provide medical nutrition therapy to individuals and to groups.
How come APDs are also Accredited Nutritionists?

Lady you spiked my BP with that! Take a breathe & slow down for god sakes!
Congrats! Thanks for the explanation, the emphasis on science and for shouting out to holistic/integrative approaches as well.
Do you think it’s worth it to Only get a nutritionist certification?
i’ve always loved your videos but was a bit surprised by your take on dissections. it’s perfectly fine to have your own opinion, but as a vegan, i would have expected you to have more compassion for the lives that are sacrificed for science. i just graduated with my bachelors in biology but never participated in the dissections. i made my ethical beliefs apparent from the very beginning of my education career, and refused to let an animal die for the sake of learning about their anatomy/physiology. there are plenty of virtual ways to learn that don’t require an animal to die. if you prefer to do an actual hands-on dissection, then you should at least acknowledge the animal that suffered for you. by saying that you have to look at the “big picture,” is kinda like a meat eater saying that eating one piece of steak isn’t going to make a difference in the factory farming industry. i understand that your degree may be more important to you than the loss of one animal’s life, but i would suggest being a little more compassionate for that one animal.
Although not related to this video, could you please talk about PUFAs (polyunsaturated fats) like flax seeds, chia seeds, firm tofu and nuts like walnuts and almonds. I have heard that they are really bad for you because they are unstable and reduce life expectancy. Apparently they cause aging and disease by increasing prostaglandin and cortisol levels in the body, cause hypothyroidism, inflammation and are immunosuppressive.
I was always curious about this! Thank you for teaching me something new today.
Okay, so a dietician is better than a nutritionist. I’ll give the dietician a callback. I’d called her about my prediabetic condition.
Great information. The word “Diet” in dietitian threw me off but he true meaning is great.
Very informative. I enjoy how she can communicate using simple terms, without losing theoretical rigor. I need to adopt this style in my informative presentations.
There is a very overweight certified nutritionist selling a 21 day plan for insulin resistance who used to be a beachbody coach, and she was actually at a healthy weight when she was using beachbody and drinking shakeology.
Is it possible to complete an internship in 7 months I’m graduating in May of 23′ and would hate to have to go back for another two years just because I missed the cut off date by a month
That is not true in all states, in some states you can work in hospital if you are Certified Nutritionalist Specialist education and clinical hours requirements are the similar to RDs except you have to have Masters or PhD which I think why RDs are changing their requirements as well
A dietitian your more likely to see in a hospital, a nutritionist are likely to work one-on-one with their clients.
Hey very helpful video.. My QUESTION is that I have 4 years of BSc Honors degree titled as Food and Nutrition from recognized University, so what should I be called as? Dietitian? Or not?
Thanx in advance
I went into college for dietetics, but it wasn’t the right fit for me and I only stayed for a semester. Despite that I still nerd out over all of your nutrition videos haha thanks for posting <3
I am studying to become a dietitian in The Netherlands. This video was really helpful for me! Do you know some other professionals/dietitians on YouTube that you like? I really want to see more educational nutrition related videos!! xxx
which university u attended to become a RD and is chemistry mandatory to enter the university to do dietetics?
Hi!!! Congrats for you video! I’m from Brazil and here the thermilogy is different…
I research most of my own dietary advice, but I do get quite a bit from my old coach and YouTubers
Please tell us what the ending song is or where to find this melody?
Thank you for this! RD’s do so much and have at least 5-6 + years of education (a lot have Master’s degrees and even PhD’s) plus continuing education. It’s great to see support for the profession!:)
I am so happy for you ☺️
You are such a big influence to me.
I am glad to hear you want to proceed to become a physician as well. I have the same career goal, but what you said is so important, that we have to be open minded to see the bigger picture. So I’m not sure what I want to become and I’m glad that I gain a different perspective and learned something new from this video, although this is off topic. I am cheering you on as you continue your journey.
Nutrition and dietician degrees are not offered where I live. I live In El Paso TX. The closest to those degrees are an associates in nutrition a nd bachelor’s in public health. My interest in nutrition has grown lately.
Hello, I want to ask something. How was it RD student? Is it fun, what are you guys learning about??
hiii I have completed my masters in clinical nutrition in India nd I would like to work as a dietitian in France…is it possible???
Am really grateful and thankful for what @dr_Ademola has done for me and my family. i have be suffering from HERPES for good three years with no solution, the diseases almost took my life and because I was unable to work and I was also loosing lots of money for medication, but one faithful day when I went online, I met lots of testimonies about this great man so I decided to give a try and to God be the glory he did it. If you need his help or you also want to get cured just the way I got mine, just email him:[email protected] gmail.com or Whatsapp ; +234 815 863 2079 get your healing. He has cure for other deadly diseases like Herpes, Hiv, HPV1 HPV2 Hepatitis,ALS.
I did anatomy and we had human cadavers. It was pretty traumatizing but I think it gave me a whole new perspective on life. For those who have to do dissections, I definitely suggest just reflecting on the experience and making the most of it. I learned so much in that class I couldnt imagine not taking it. And I love Amandas idea of asking if you can watch and take notes rather than dissecting if you feel uncomfortable!
The difference is simple nothing hard about it Nutritionists who have gone to university are highly valued the nutrition part of it just like dieticians just not the medical part of nutrition. Up to you dieticians are poorly paid and yet spend all that time in placements so yes nutritionist with a degree you are fine if you dont want the hassle of unpaid placemebts and 5 years in college for low pay.
Extremely informative! I love the way you talk and explain yourself! Thanks for being so clear and concise
Hi…. iam a nutritionist have completed a bachelor degree 3 years in india.
I am planning to immigrate to canada… do i need to do again in canada?
Such an important distinction. Another thing that pops up on the internet as well is people who advertise the fact that they are a doctor to help further their nutrition advice platform but when you look deeper it turns out they studied something unrelated like chiropractics. It’s so important to check these things out before you launch yourself into someones dietary advice!!!
does anyone knows how many years u need to study to become a dietitian?
If you will be graduating with a BA in nutrition in the year 2022, do you still need a masters? Also, did you have to think/fill-in PreRequisites with a non-science major for Medical school so you can get in?
Dissections are an important part of a biology/anatomy/physiology education, regardless of moral or personal beliefs. It feels like saying you wouldn’t work with someone in need just because they weren’t vegan or your type of vegan.
Thankfully in most of the provinces in Canada calling yourself a nutritionist means that not just anyone can call themselves that. You need to attend an accredited post secondary college or vocational school, take an exam and do regular upgrading. Most schools offer this course with a diploma or certificate at the end.
Thank you for this video.
I am planning to become a registered holistic nutritionist and will be starting my schooling soon.
Thank you, the info very helpful. what state does not require you to be registered dietitians? in other words where can I practice as a nutritionist?
As the one who is planning to go for a Dietetics undergraduate program, I’m always confused about these 2 terms so thanks a lot for your thorough explanation! Hope to see more of your videos in the future
I am a Clinical Nutritionist in Trinidad and Tobago. I have my MSc in Medical Nutrition. In my country we are required to complete 2 Practicums for our BSc and register with a board. I find it severely annoying that often registered Nutritionists are degregated to not being as qualified as RDs. We do all the same courses are taught the same information, do all the same clinicals etc just some of us prefer choosing Practicums over clinical internships because we desire to work more on the field of foodservice, gastroenterology and not be institutionalized to figures. I run my practice and update my programs based in evidence based research, I work with medical doctors for my patients. RDs are not more or differently qualified that Registered Nutritionists. But to me we actually have a greater understanding of food science and functional patient consumption than just the statistical, charted, structured style of Dietitics. To me that approach manages chronic nutritional diseases more than cure or prevent and I think Real Nutritionists need to be more vocal generally of our role and function.
May I ask what university you entered!? I just found you tonight and have hammered through videos, you have a beautiful energy, thank you for the blessing of sharing your heart
Hi I don’t believe in what people suggest is healthy. And I have a question if you are forced to tell them about a diet I consider a short fix and unhealthy. I’m only fifteen btw and what I consider healthy is cutting out carbs and using own body fats for energy and healthy fats from butter, olive oil and avocados. Thank you!
Well, according to a nutritionist… The proof is in the pudding!
Hi Ma’am Kim! I am Brandon from the Philippines. I just want to share the difference here. In my country, both titles are protected since once we pass the board examination, we are called Registered Nutritionist-Dietitians. So basically here, when you are referring to a Nutritionist, you are most prolly referring to a Dietitian (Though some are now referring to themselves as Nutritionist even without a license, citing the American legal basis).
Dietetics here in the PH was patterned to the US since it was founded after the American colonization but things changed. Here, the internship is already included in your 4 year BS ND curriculum (its a semester long with a total of 600 hours.) After finishing the degree, you are now eligible to take the exam. How I wish things would revert back to what was the curriculum before, just like in the US. But now I heard that the our Board is now on the process of revising it again. In the plan, RND’s would be required to undergo residency in various specialties such as Pediatric Nutrition, Diabates Nutrition, Renal, Metabolic Disorders and etc. So these specialties would be regulated through an exam and these would now be required if you’re going to work as a dietitian in a specialized hospital or clinic.
Can u become like a home cook as a nutritionist or dietitian?
Thank you for explaining the difference because I keep telling people that a nutritionist call tell you anything, but a a registered dietitian is someone trained in the field of nutrition with a certification behind their name!
Outstanding job clarifying between the two! Both are great resources for people looking to map out a healthy lifestyle. Thanks for sharing!
THANK YOU. I am studying to be an RD, and I literally had someone ask me an hour ago what the difference is and all I knew was that there is a difference! Now I know what to tell people!
You need to do your ressesrch. Most Legal Nutritionalist have a Masters degree or PhD, the requirement is normally Masters and higher and accreditation like the CNS which require clinical hours. In most states its illegal to call yourself a Nutrionist without meeting the requirements or having a the credentials. I think you mean health coach or nutrition coach not Nutrionalist. Not to mention a good portion of our coursework is in biochemistry
What happens to the registered dietitians that do not back up their statements with science? Like the ones recommending veganism and telling people that meat is bad.
The only thing holding me back is the 1200 internship. That cost money and like having a full time job that you don’t get paid for:( so its like 5 years of school
Also don’t forget that dietitians are required to have continuing education every year to update their knowledge!
RDs are required to study and deal with meat and dairy, correct? Nutritionists must also take proctored exams and can be registered as such. The schooling just isnt as lengthy, costly?
Hello! I’ll study for begin a Foundation Year and after I can choose two main courses: “Dietetics and Human Nutrition” and “Nutrition and Health”. If I want to work in my carrer with obese people, sportive and diabetics, which course do you think that I must to choose?
The volume on this video is low. Is there anyway you can fix it?
Thank you! This video really helped clarify the difference. You rock ❤️
Do you have to have a bachelors in nutrition to become a dietitian?
This is an excellent video that I’d love to include in my online course at City College of San Francisco. We are required that our video content have accurate captions to meet accessibility guidelines. Would you be willing to enable the Community Captions feature so I can provide appropriate captioning (which you would then need to approve)? Thanks so much
Hi Whitney. I’m a certified personal trainer & I want to know if a certication programme like Precision Nutrition makes me eligible to provide diet plans for my clients?
There are many misconceptions when it comes to nutritionists and dietitians, but once people finally understand the difference, they can begin to seek out the proper care they need.
I used to be a skinny model and I was able to eat as much as I want.
There was a medical accident and my body system was damaged very very bad.
I don’t have fast metabolism anymore at least for years more.
I was always in a good shape whatever I eat but now it’s not. so,
Especially my belly fat and gut fat is dangerous level although I eat less than before so it
means my body type is changed (slow metabolism, slow digest, like elder or people who originally had very slow metabolism). Also, I can exercise limited amount only.(walk and stretching. maybe muscle exercise not hard for short as possible.). I eat 14times a day so it was it was irregular. If I don’t eat carb, sort, sugar a lot(like chinese food or korean) I feel down but I regret every time after eat a lot as digestion is slow. But I started to change from today. My weight is always 13kg above compared before the accident. My stomach nerve was damaged too so
it’s slow and always out. But when I eat less for long, it goes back in quite a bit.
I just wonder what kind of eating style would be good for me and how often too..
If it is and opinion, I would appreciate.
thank you for reading!
I’ll be going to a dietician tommorrow. I found out last week that I was diabetic and I need to learn to learn how to eat all over again. I am thinking about going back to a trade school for a culinary nutritional assistant. I want to learn how to eat right and start a some type of meal prepping business. Great video. I appreciate the info.
So if I say that adopting a whole food plant based diet has been proved by endless studies to be the single best way to help prevent, treat, and even reverse some of our leading causes of death, including heart disease, type 2 diabetes, and high blood pressure, would you go vegan then? #itsscience.
Because a dietitian is a illy educated individual certified and such on. A nutritionist is…. the equivalent of a self proclaimed “hey guys Google told me so, sooo…” There ya go.
This video was very informative as people would ask what do you wanna major in at college and I would say nutritionist and dietitian not knowing they had a difference between the two so now ik to just say RD or Dietitian from now on lol. I’m also currently a senior in high school trying to get everything together ❤️
So Every DIETICIAN is nutritionist, but every nutritionist may be or may not be DIETICIAN!!! Thanks Sarah.
Hey my name is Alex I’m 17 and my goal is to become a professional MMA fighter & I’ve recently seen that a lot of pro MMA fighter/boxers Needing to weight cut to get to a certain weight class,Therefor many professional fighters work with this nutritionist expert named George lockhart and after seeing him work and the way he talks about food and essentials that our body needs it had got me intrigued but I don’t know exactly how to study that or what exactly is the requirements to get in that profession or even what that job is called exactly.
Hi Lauren, You may not be familiar with the many nutritionists who have Masters or doctoral degrees in nutrition or in a clinical healthcare field (covering all the biochemistry and life sciences) with additional coursework in nutrition, complete a supervised practice/internship and pass a national board certifying exam. The Certified Nutriton Specialist (CNS) is one such credential.. Looks from the comments that you received similar information a year ago. I hope you can update the information you are passing on about the profession. Thank you.
Wow, I find your definitions quite different from us in Africa.Personally am a registered clinical nutritionist in Kenya.I have gone through degree course in Nutrition accompanied by attachment ant internship in hospital set up upon which I got registered by the Kenya Nutritionists and Dietitian Institute. My scope of work has much to do with patients in the hospital.I think the bottom line here should be that ‘Is the person competent and qualified to work in the given area?’ and not really bringing out the superiority issue of which one seems stronger than the other between nutritionist and dietitian. My opinion though.
In Sweden a nutritionist need to have 3 years of education. They also earn way more then a dietist probably because it’s a harder education and job. Here a nutrionist are focusing a lot on chemistry and biologi. I hope I don’t offend or sound rude I just wanted to tell how it is here in Sweden
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR SHARING <3 I'm currently studying Exercise and Nutrition Sciences and am still wondering if I want to do my Masters to be a dietician... I still have loads of time to decide though! Much love <3
In México you have to study 4 years to become a Nutritionist (In my collegue I had 4 years and a half) and then 1 year of social service or intership in a hospital and a Dietitian is someone who has a tecnic career of one or two years.
hey do you know the best journals for nutrition and exercise science?
I get SO frustrated trying to learn about nutrition that is actually backed by science. Now I know the credentials to look for if I want to avoid the pseudoscience “woo” out there with outrageous claims lol. My husband suffers from chronic illness and I’m sure you already know EVERYONE seems to have an unproven magic cure to sell. I don’t want magic promises about food, or crazy fad diets, just solid facts that help me make the best nutritional choices for us. Thank you for putting this out there! I subscribed to your channel now and I look forward to checking out more of your content.
very helpful thank you! I now know I want to specifically be a dietician not just a nutritionist
thanks Whitney for this clarification & congrats, the big part of the world know nothing or v.little about Nutrition & Dietetics including our fellow Health professionals. i’m Registered Nutritionist too and trying my best to get this sweetest Title…..i wish i w’d be in touch with u! if u do’t mind plz here’s my adress: [email protected] gmail.com….thanks
This is not accurate information. It really depends on what State you live in. In the state of Washington for example, the state licenses CN Certified Nutritionists, and CD Certified Dietitians. To be a CN you need a masters of phd in nutrition. to be a CD you need to be an RD. Both can practice MNT (Medical Nutrition Therapy) and work in hospital settings, bill insurance, etc. Please update your information because you give nutrtitionists that are licensed and have Masters and PHD a bad name. In Minnesota, you can become a CN with a PHD in nutrition. There are Non RD routes to practicing Medical Nutrition Therapy.
Thanks Whitney! Super helpful. There is so much stuff that is useless or downright harmful.
Nutritionist sounds like horseshit just from the name alone. It’s like calling yourself an animalist instead of biologist/natural historian.
This is so exciting! I live in London, and I am considering going onto a course to become a nutrition therapist. However, I literally just finished my degree in professional dance, so I do not want to go straight onto something full-time again:)
I have my bachelor degree in health science. But I want to become a certified nutritionist. I just don’t know where to start or how to begin. I’m looking for a mentor
Thank you love. After my daughter is born I’m going to finish school at my community college and transferring to UNLV because their dietitian program is great.
Thank you. This helped me to understand that I need a dietician rather than a nutritionist to help me get my diet under control.
bonjour,
i live in Paris, and know, i need to lose weight, tried to count points and calories, and do not do well with this i even signed up for online site ( sparkpeople),to help me counting calories. now my doc here, in Paris, said i must contact a doc to lose weight ( i am 35 pounds over weight and here, i am considered obese)
can you advise me, on how what to do next?? i am getting ready to order some pills over the internet, thank you
i wanna do my masters in human nutrition and dietetics so is there any prominent institute in U.S.A
What would be an example of health practitioners that are not RD’s that relly on anecdotal stories to help clients? Would you say a Natropath would be one of those?
The difference between certified nutritionist and RD varies by state not just by country. For example, in Washington state you MUST have a masters degree, then you can take a board exam and call yourself a CNS (certified nutrition specialist). In California there is no formal distinction. RDs can do medical nutrition, help in the treatment of diseases, and diagnose certain diseases (such as an ED). Oftentimes the companies that are hiring CNS look for those with a masters degree, so the place where “nutritionists” with less legitimate training or experience are causing an issues is mainly on the private business spectrum, where people don’t know what to look for. Depending on what you want to do will depend on what you go after. If you want to work with diseases, then you must be an RD. If you want to do preventative medicine or food behavior consulting, you can be a CNS or RD. RDs can do all, but for some people it just wouldn’t be worth it because they don’t want to pursue the clinical route.
You and I are on similar paths with the RD to Dr thing, except I’m also on the path to becoming a clinical psychologist. Go vegan RD’s! Let’s get the right info out there!
I’m studying to be a nutritionist I loved the video♥️
A fan from Brazil
I live in a small country in europe, and we don’t have nutrition studies and even dietition study programme will be started the next year, so thank you for making these informative videos, bc they REALLY help:)
Can’t wait for a time when dietitians can prescribe super focused diets to prevent, slow down or even eliminate and cure brain or neuronal diseases, liver diseases, heart diseases, nerve and muscle disorders. I strongly feel dietitians and nutritionists are going to be the future of medicine and general health coz more and more people are realizing the powers of food, diet and supplements compared to all the side effects allopathy, homeopathy & even herbal medicines like ayurveda. My only question is… Can dieticians prescribe supplements such as zinc, magnesium, vitamins, etc.?
What career opportunities are there for nutritionists without the RD title?
From a Canadian perspective, the differences are essentially the same as the ones you mentioned!
Thank you so much for this video! I have one quick question (not sure if you discussed this in a video), is it hard to find a job in the dietetics field?? (obviously after passing all courses and tests)
THANK YOU! THIS… THIS explains the difference… not just education and “credentials” but the actual difference in practice and focus
A dietian is based on scientific evidence, nutrionist… Well
I thought a nutritionist was one of those makey uppy careers. Bit like a doctor of chiropractic
Here in the Netherlands there’s an association for nutritionists, and you can only be part of that with a degree/certificate. Therefore people looking for a nutritionist know who’s legit and who’s not because of the online database which is accessible for everyone. Keeps the scammers away
On your journey to your degree do you take classes to learn about like chemical break downs and bodily responses or do you only do like macronutrient and micronutrient needs how many servings of fruit ect.
Thanks for explaining the difference because there IS a difference!!
Thank you for this! From a Registered dIetitian in Nova Scotia! ❤️
Hey there! First off, your Instagram name doesn’t pop up when I search for it.
Also I’ll be right at the cutoff of taking my board test before 2024. Can I take this test during my internship if need be to make the cut?
I don’t trust RDs anymore. RDs have to toe the line of the academy of foods and nutrition which receives money from Coca Cola,Wendy’s, etc. RDs knowledge is outdated. RDs have to follow government guidelines which was corrupted by the food industry. RDs got me obsessed about the number in the scale and calories in vs calories out which backfires. RDs still think that eating fat is bad but they are ok with eating sugar and carbs. They are ok with eating 6 times a day to “control hunger “and “maintain metabolism” but the reality is the opposite. it’s sad that the RD is used and salesman for the processed food industry.
This is so informative, thanks for clearing it all up… I was wondering recently actually!
In case anyone is interested, NTA’s programs are 9 months (not 10 weeks).
Hi first of of I luv your channel and how much detail and effort you’ve put in pls keep up
!!!*** nevertheless long story short I’m considering to study medical school mainly to help myself and to help others who has similar medical issues as I’m facing, I have PKU and I’ve been struggling my life for prevent lots of foods and seizures epilepsy symptoms, and I’m considering going study for neurology ( brain), registered dietitian, or naturopathic (3 out of 1, since I knew they’re all important to PKU illness patient, I’m aware this might be out of your territory and you can only speak for what you known and learned but please if you can ask your others professors, doctors, or friends ***note:I was wondering if you can suggest as a friend and someone who has been in medical school please there’s no pressure or responsible for this I only ask cause I’m very confused and frustrated, and I need someone to guide me, I’m very lost and I need help, ★★★★★★
If anyone who know which major suit or suggest others idea please feel free to comment and let me know thx
this is very helpful and interesting, thank you!! I’m going to college next year, and plan to study to become an RD:)
I love kale salads. My question is the dressing that I use. Depending on the dressing am I taking away from the benefits of the kale and what would you recommend using?
I love this background. It looks like your energy is flowing out of your body:)
I’m 287 and am averaging losing 3-5 lbs a month. I’m working out with a trainer 5 days a week (virtually for now). I get one really kick-ass sweat dripping in my eyes workout per week and am too sore the rest of the week to kick it into that gear again although I still do the workouts. In addition to daily 1-2 mile walks. Something in my brain and muscles clicked this week for the first time and I felt my abs take the brunt of the workout rather than my thighs and shoulders, and all of a sudden my squats and deadlifts burn in my glutes which they didn’t at all before. In a month I’ve gained massive range of motion in my hips and much more flexibility which is making it easier. But the soreness is intense, I’m assuming that means I need better nutrition?
I’m eating 1500 1700 calories a day. I’m fighting my sugar addiction ( chocolate) but still allow myself a little something (like a pudding cup) here and there. I am pretty carb heavy though. I’ve been told I can still have some carbs but they should be things like Ezekiel bread, not regular English muffins. I eat a lot of vegetables, no red meat (it hurts my stomach), lots of chicken. Does anyone have any thoughts?

RD vs. Nutritionists-this subject is SO important! People assume that the two go hand-in-hand and are basically the same. Sometimes RD’s have more stigma because everyone believes that RDs only abide by outdated FDA-approved information, but it takes a LOT of hard work and passion into becoming an RD. There’s nothing wrong with becoming a nutritionist, but RDs generally have to work harder and have more credibility. They simply just learn everything and then do their own thing!
I appreciate the examples givenwhere dieticians can, and do work; where nutritionists
can and do work… thank you so much.
Great video, nice to see our doctors are real humans too! I would love to see “doctor approved” easy meals/kid friendly ideas. Nutrition classes at the office are at 3pm which is school pick up time not convienient. Nutritionist was discouraging and have not gone back. I hope to see some more videos really awesome. Your patient
When do you graduate? Do you study nutrition for people with M.E./CFS?
I have meet a nutrionist once a she was a really dum witch!!
This has finally answered that question in a direct and clear fashion
In some provinces of Canada like Quebec, the word Dietetician AND Nutritionnist are protected by the law. So they mean the same because they did the same education (a 4 years degree + 40 weeks of internship).
Thank you so much for making this video!!!! I really liked how you explained the difference between a dietitian and a certified nutritionist. I am currently a sophomore in college majoring in nutrition and was on the fence about becoming a RD or a certified nutritionist, but I am going to push through and become an RD!! Your passion for this job encourages me so much:) Thank you:)
In high school we dissected in zoology. They did cats! I refused to do it. You definitely do not need to participate in something like that in order to learn. You are not becoming a vet surgeon so it’s completely unnecessary.
Do you learns about the effects of GMO’s and pesticides? Also, do learn about the effects that certain foods and relation to inflammation in the body? Thanks
Thank you for this advice, I’m inspired and really want to become an rd too!:)
I always wanted to know the difference thanks for teaching me
P.S I agree with you about animal dissections. I had multiple toad dissections in my biology class and they were all compulsory for my course (or else I fail…). I refused to dissect the frog and instead just observed for my lab. We do our best!
Hi Amanda! Just wondering if you have noticed a difference in your period since you have incorporated more fats into your diet? Or is that too personal lol I’ve just heard that more fat can cause heavier and more painful cycles
What about someone that calls themself a Functional Diagnostic Nutritionist?
I really appreciate your specificity in explaining the differences. Thank you very much.
Hello my apples fam!! Thumbs up for all y’all saving lives through nutrition! ** MILES (healthycrazycool) pointed out to me that i completely forgot to mention that there are also “registered nutritional therapists” in some countries. They are accredited professionally and have gone through formal education to learn about nutrition and how to apply it to their clients!**
