I always buy Valerian root in dried form so it is pure, and sometimes make a cup of tea by boiling 1 teaspoon of it in 1/4 liter water 5 min. cooking, 5 min. letting it rest, then drink it warm. It is true it doesnt work for everyone and I dont need it usually but advise it to people who have trouble falling asleep.

My body has an extreme opposite effect w valerian. It’ll make me super sleepy at first after my nap it’ll make me wake up irritated to all get out. I’ve tracked this, the times I take valerian root I have had raging screaming fits, after my nap….???? Don’t know why, but my history says if I take vroot…I’ll become more of a bitch then the calming effects it’s supposed to be

Valerian Root stinks so bad that it can knock you out even before you go to bed. Seriously it’s way up there with poop, smells like rotten cheese with a dash of stinky foot fungus. lol
I just took 10 530mg capsules, because I suffer from chronic depression, and anxiety, that my doctor won’t prescribe me any benzodiazepines, but he prescribed me Cymbalta for lower back pain and depression, then he prescribed Elavil just to take away side effects from the Cymbalta, which gave me chronic diarrhea, insomnia, and it doesn’t seem to help with my back pain. My doctor lied to me saying that antidepressants are not addictive, but he told me to stop talking Cymbalta, and instructed me to take Wellbutrin in place of that, and I was only taking the Wellbutrin for the first 5 days, and was going through withdrawal from not taking the Cymbalta, which I looked up online because of how bad I felt which were brain zaps, anxiety, insomnia, drastic mood swings, and shaking.

I always thought that Valerian was to help one sleep. It’s the side affect that people are looking for.
…..a side effect is it might make you sleepy? Really? Thats not a side effect thats the main reason anyone takes it. What a load of irrelevant tosh as for becoming addicted, to what? a good nights sleep? The only side effect I’ve heard of is after long term frequent use (every night) some liver function might suffer so see your doc if you take it every night. Other than that, follow the labels instructions and sweet dreams ZZzzzzz
Let me follow up by saying I use valerian on occasion for sleep/anxiety. I’m not anti-valerian but I thought I’d share the risk of + drug screen
One thing you didn’t mention, and forgive me if its in the comments is that valerian root can cause a false positive urine drug screen (benzos)
This guy is full of shit! He did no actual research (you can see him reading from a laptop or computer throughout the video). Valerian has been used for hundreds of years, and, in that time, there has never been a documented case of Valerian Addiction!
I took this valerian root before bed it was terrible I couldn’t sleep all night it wired effect in your brain bad bad bad I will never take it again
I think what he means is that it can also cause daytime sleepiness which can be a problem. It helps me go to sleep, but I also notice I feel a little sleepy during the day when I take it, so I will only take it when absolutely necessary. Each individual will respond to the herb differently.

I bought some the other day from the Vitamin Shoppe and it gave me really bad migraine like headaches. It lasted for about 10-20 minutes but went away.. I think maybe I took too much. I have the liquid one with alcohol which makes it more potent and the bottle’s dropper doesn’t have the exact amount(1 ml) the instructions state to add to water.
It works for me, but then again, I drink a cup around 8 PM after being up from 5 AM for work. So I’m already kinda tired, but this tea really drives home the drowsy after I sip a cup. Very relaxing and I seem to sleep better.
i love taking valerian for my sleeping problems, but i mostly love taking it for e awesome vivid and crazy dreams i get with it. sometimes when i take too much i get sore stomach so i know my limits. i started taking it together with melatonin which is even better for me.
