New Orleans Coffee and Chicory blend, the whole type of coffee I drink <3
New Orleans is good for the soul. So is coffee & chicory. Thanks for the vid.
the bag she is holding is worth around 3 dollars. just find an herb store don’t buy online.
I have experimented a lot with chicory. For about 6 months now, I only use chicory no coffee at all. Drink a ton every day what the heck it’s like coffee (in my humble opinion) and still good for you if you drink a lot of it… By itself, the roasted root has too strong of a flavor for me. After many trial the best I found was the freeze-dried instant chicory imported from Russia. Freeze-dry process they say preserves the goodness of the chicory, plus gives it smoother taste and nice foam. Might want to give it a shot. https://www.facebook.com/chicoryway. If you still tend to use chicory root as is, the best I found was locally in Seattle’s Pike Place Market Market Spice store. It is coarse ground, so does not come out very strong and bitter. I still like instant one the best…
You can buy coffee mixed with 20% or 40% chicory in the market be aware if you are a hardcore coffee drinker more than 400 MG a day I recommend you to drink pure coffee bcs chicory will make you hypertensive and super jittery if you overdoes by mistake
I gave up coffee because I felt anxious all the time. Now I am anxiety-free.
Last week i bought chicory coffee by mistake. I’m pleasantly surprised by the taste.
I grew up drinking this in Louisiana and its good. It’s an acquired taste but I like it.
Nice. Well-made video. Pleasant to hear. Instructive. I like it.
Might I recommend you get your coffee and chicory from Brenda Macaluso [email protected] reilyfoods.com in New Orleans. SHE”s Wonderful
looks like a Indian style coffee also known as filter coffee in parts of India
Ok I have been wanting to try Chicory root. Her reaction convinced me!
In my experience of drinking Chicory coffee isn’t not bad as normal coffee, and I already baught some Chicory grounded coffee. Sometime I do need to stop coffee from coffee adicttion, and I drink this coffee when I don’t need lots of caffain. I hop this opinion woule be help for who need to reducing some caffain.
Whaaaat! Gail, I need that shirt in my life! Where can I get it? =D
Try making a Creole Irish coffee, same proportions of coffee to chicory, add brown sugar, heavy cream and Jameson (accept no substitues) Irish whiskey. Yuuummmmm! And yes, iced chicory/coffee is delightful in its own right. Love from Arkansas!
I researched the product and it doesn’t look gluten-free. Have you noticed any irritability or gluten-side-effects from this product?
does this stain your teeth as coffee would?! this is the main reason i’m giving up coffee
Chicory has a sweetness to it, its not good if you like unsweet coffee.
Chicory? That used to be added to cheap instant coffee to bulk it up, I have not seen Chicory in coffee for years about from Camp which is more of a coffee essence for cooking. i do not want to go back to those days.
Omg I love it I saw your video like three weeks ago and I had sopped my coffee drinking because I noticed anxiety and fast heart palpitation and also a lot of acid and heart burn and I was looking for something to help me stop drinking coffee so I switched to tea which I got used to already and I’m feeling so much better but I do have those days that I just want a coffee and yesterday I finally received this coffee substitute I was scare to try it because I try teecino and I hated it I didn’t like but once open this one it smells like coffee in a way and when I prepared it omggggg I loved it thank you so much. I had a hard time finding it I dint know where to find it i live in ny and it’s hard to find in my local stores so I ordered in amazon. ❤️☺️ it’s so good
I have been chicory coffee as long as I can remember even as a kid. Many of my relatives are from the Louisiana area, and our father made it for us as we were growing up. I now share it’s wonderful taste with my wife, and we only drink Chicory coffee, or Chicory Cafe Au Lait nothing else appeals to us. I use Cafe Du Monde because I can purchase it at a store near where I live for cheaper then I can find it online. $5.99 for a 15oz can.
Good things come to those who wait. I know I wasn’t the only one to suggest it, but it’s nice to see it happen all the same. Cheers!
Love your video as always, not related but you had the joey mug on IG today and I went strait to the site to order a couple and you are sold out. Stop teasing us please and take my money.
I know it’s probably not to popular in the northern states but down here in the south it’s good on the grill roasted or in stews and promotes healthy liver gallbladder and digestive tract. Plenty of vegan recipes available online for anyone interested.
Grey squirrel coffee in Carrboro makes an iced chicory coffee.
One question since you are using dark roasted coffee(don’t know exact roast level) why do you use 205°F water?
I wonder why you guys, having numerous fancy grinders, still use an encore for many videos like this? Does it have some special merit?
I made a batch of cold brew with chicory (a la Blue Bottle) to try and simulate New Orleans iced coffee or vietnamese coffee. I added some condensed milk for sweetness and dairy. The chicory flavor was a bit light, so I might try to up it next time.
What micron grind size did you use for this pour over and all your pour overs please?
this is great! I’m a huuuuge coffee drinker, not only for its health benefits, but, mostly, for its taste and smell, which are totally addictive and nostalgic to me. however, I hate the effect that caffeine has on me.. my heart starts beating so fast that I start feeling weird and sick instead of energized and awake.. anyways, this is awesome! I never thought about this coffee substitute..
You can make coffee out of green coffee beans. You just make it like you would with normal coffee beans.
Did you run the chicory through your regular coffee grinder or do it separately in an herb/spice grinder?
I don’t understand why go caffeine free it’s pretty stupid caus caffeine improves metabolism and has many benefits
If you are saying Chickory tastes like coffee, I wont like none of these. But then you mix your coffee with all kinds of other stuff, so maybe you dont care for the coffee taste.
This sounds like a great mix. My favourite mix is almond milk with vanilla extract or vanilla pod.
Nice that you made a video, but the music is outrageously awful! Best without music at all!
Sounds too good to be truth… had anyone actually tried this?
i have to quit because it affects my glaucoma. so i’m going to try this.
Coffee is not bad for you in moderate intake it can prevent many things including Parkinson’s and heart disease it’s also packed with immune boosters. Just enjoy in moderation, cold brew is the best it’s the slow brewing method that releases the most amount of great antioxidants
Guys! Try barley tea!!!!!!! It taste amazing, is low calorie, caffeine free and soooo good for you. It is also called Mugicha and is a Japanese tea. I’m 13 and drinking it right now. I’m really picky tho, so it’s really not that bad!
This looks great, but unfortunately it’s got wheat and gluten in it. I’ve been looking all over for a gluten free coffee substitute and they’re hard to find. The best I can find is dandelion coffee (which I remember having years ago and finding disgusting) or some Teeccino bags of dandelion coffee (but they had bad customer reviews). It’s a shame there’s no gluten free version of Bambu.
Coffee is horrible. But it’s so good. Roasting barley is a good substitute for coffee
It’s been a while since you did this video so hoping you get my question here. Do you still drink this and recommend it,, or have you found something better since? Can you find Bambu in stores where we live, like Walmart, or only at Amazon?
Well how did she know I drink coffee before bed do a lot of people do that?
Teeccino is a great herbal coffee substitute. I highly recommend it.
I’m trying Teeccino, but depending on if that’s more expensive than this, I may switch it up
Having esophagitis I must go off coffee because it causes reflux, so you’re a Godsend and I do appreciate you uploading this video. Blessings to you and yours.
I have to stop coffee, heart condition. Thank you for sharing this.
Does this give the energy that normal coffee would, or is this just to replace the taste of coffee?
I didnt even wait for the end I just went straight to Amazon.
Thanks for the video.
And for everyone that has something mean or is over critical to say, some of you people are so “inner disturbed”.that you just can’t help yourself can you? Your so miserable that a simple coffee video triggers you.
Go get some help, if it ain’t to late for you that is.
My girlfriend is allergic(?) to coffee. Okay well basically she gets severe stomachaches. She doesn’t sleep much anyways so I’m not sure if the coffee is what’s keeping her awake or not, but she LOVES the taste.(She coughs up blood sometimes after drinking it and I’m getting really worried..)She will not stop, so instead I want to try to make a substitute that still tastes like coffee ☕️. I’ll try to edit this comment to say if this works or not. High Hopes!
I’m going to try and cut down on coffee so maybe only have it in mornings
Why not just drink decaffeinated coffee? The amount of caffeine there is really small… And, in the other hand, as any food or drink, coffee also has a lot of benefits.
Thank you so much because I normally get migraines from coffee
Hey Gail! I got a new recipe for you to try out! I call it Sylvia. It’s an espresso with blueberry and raspberries. It’s pretty good!
First cover the bottom of the espresso cup and heat up the berries. Then put a bit of brown sugar in top and then pull the espresso shot in the cup and enjoy. Good luck:)
If you cant find bambu, just use pero. Its exact same thing. Same ingredients monus the figs. Pero is dank
Also I rllly hate when ppl say eXpresso it just hurts my heart ;(
I just bought the Teeccino… is there a difference between instant and regular?
Great video! I swapped my coffee for brainzyme a while ago and I won’t be switching back it is so so good and gives you way more energy for longer!
Great video, unfortunately that Bambu is not Celiac friendly as it contains wheat.
so the obvious question is what is in that bamboo powder? is it safe? organic? healthier than coffee or worse? where to buy it, and can we make it rather than buy some probably overpriced powder.
What store can I buy Herbal coffee at? I’ve tried searching my regular grocery stores and I cannot find it anywhere
I can’t wait to try this!!! I stopped drinking Tim Hortons and started using K-Cups in January as an attempt to save some money. Well lol they are so good that I got addicted to the caffine over a very short period. Like you said, I couldn’t skip a day without getting really bad headaches that would not go away unleds I got some caffinee in my system. I cut it out and only drank black tea and matcha for about a week, but was really missing my coffee a day. So I started making smalls and seem to be able to skip a day without a headache. I did not know that this was a thing though lol! I had to share and thank you for sharing!:)
Hi can you please tell me where you can get this coffee other than Amazon because they are all sold out ☺️
I love the idea of coffeeless coffee, b/c I love the flavour and coziness of it, but I’m sooo sensitive to the caffeine. Decaf just turns me off for some reason…I’m gonna look into this herbal coffee thing. Never heard of it. Thanks for the tip:)
I see breville coffee machine on the video but the link shows cusinart.
You’ve convinced me to try chicory, but I don’t have a pour over setup, are the proportions different for a drip coffee maker? Thanks SCG!
You did that epic tea in a pressurised portafiltre once. How about trying it with chicory the same way?
Caffeine-Free? what the point? like drinking nne alcohol beer yuck!!!. why bother drinking the stuff.
Great video! Thanks for using homemade almond milk. Really love to make my own as well. Interested in checking out your almond creme recipe. Thanks again!
so really an add for bambu, thats been available for years now, 7.38 mins of self-importance
I’m allergic to almonds. Do you think this would work with cashew milk?
Hi Gail! Grind it finer and try to get a shot of espresso only with the chicory, like the way some people do with rooibos.
Hey Gail! I love all the videos! I have a coffee collaboration idea that i just tried this morning. I chopped up/tore up a couple fresh mint leaves and put it in a french press (probably would work better in an aeropress) with my grounds and just brewed normally. I got mint notes!
I was so happy to see this I went to check the product… it’s loaded with calories:”(
What a great video! I am extremely sensitive to caffeine and anything that cause energy bursts. Does this Bambu product have any of those effects? Or any effects at all? Thank You. I just subscribed.
I found this video very useful! BTW you are so pretty omgosh
Where do you get the instant coffee? That looks delicious! I can go weeks or months without coffee. But sometimes I just want the taste. I really don’t get a caffeine fix from it. But sometimes it does hurt my stomach. So I want to try this! Thanks!
Omg you making my vegan life so much easier LOVE LOVE YOUR VD.
This is the first time I learn your name! You should probably start all your videos saying “Hi everyone this is Nicky and welcome back to my channel…” just an idea:) Great video!
Do to a recent digestive disease I was diagnosed with I can’t have caffine! =(
Thank you so much for the suggestion! I am from Canada and love coffee as well. I am trying to break my habit but starting work at 7am can be difficult without coffee. Now does it give you the alert feeling like how coffee does? I know you said it’s not caffeinated.
This is great! I love coffee but it makes me sick due to stomach issues. I will absolute try this
I absolutely love coffee its my addiction! But recently i made some changes to my life and starting to become a Mormon, which means we are not aloud to drink coffee! Sad i know…. but this video helped me find a new way to drink coffee without it actually being coffee<3
I LOVE coffee absolutely and this looks like an amazing and delicious substitute! Thank you for sahring Nikky:D Yummi and you are so gorgeous:) <3
There is also a coffee from hong kong called yuanyang. You combine one part coffee and one part black tea an put some milk in it and if you want you can put sugar in it and then put some ice in it.
I LOVE coffee and this looks like an amazing (and delicious) substitute! Thank-you for sharing Nikky =D
Thank you so much….i love coffee and i have quit due to the negative short and long term outcomes……so thank you…this is so much better and healthier.
Love this! Haven’t had coffee in three months… but have been tempted definitely going to try this recipe instead!!:-) thanks love♡♡♡
I drank coffee every day this week. This is a good reminder to quit being so dependent on coffee.
Good morning i’m excited to try this =) thanks for sharing!! =) where did you find your bambu and chocolate-sugar products? thanks so much again:)
Yum! I have one organic cuppa day, but I after my one cup I switch to Dandy Blend! Not only is it caffeine-free, but it’s detoxifying as well! Love making lattes with it as well, though mine is not as fancy as yours 😉
Aghhh thank you so much! This is so helpful! PS, you are glowing in this video! (:
Unfot Bambu contains wheat, second ingredient so I wouldn’t want to use that. Great vid tho.
haha, my name’s nikky and I was a coffeeholic
you crack me up!
Great video! Will need to try this, I used to drink Ovaltine growing up
It’s espresso lol. Not X presso. I love the video though, I used to work at a coffee shop during college and got addicted and now I’m trying to wean myself off.
Finally a drink that i can actually try! Coffee and me don’t get along, i get really bad stomach aches and it keeps me up all day until it’s out of my system. I will definitely be making this soon… Can you make more videos that contain chia seeds, that go along with strawberries, bananas etc… Thanks!
@DIYMakerman Thank you for the advice, I have lots of field guides on wild plants, shelters, bush craft, homesteading etc and its never enough. Still learning, but i share what i have learned so that others will know.
