Use the Hover Method. Many women have already mastered the art of hovering (not fully sitting on the toilet seat) when using public bathrooms. Whether it’s the pre-race nerves or poor lighting, people tend to have worse aim in porta-potties at races. So, if ever you wanted to start hovering over the toilet seat, now’s a good time to give it a try.Separate the waste tank from the water tank.
Make sure to follow the guidelines provided by the manufacturer since the designs of portable toilet tanks are different. Ensure that the part that connects the waste tank and the water tank is sealed or closed. Take it to the area where you will pour out the waste. To fill-up the discharge tank you can just use a canister or do like us: open the Porta Potti and take it under a water tap to fill it. Be careful, anyway, to avoid dish-washing sinks and try to be respectful towards other people: it’s the higher part of your bathroom.
To Use Your Portable Toilet: After each use, tie the small plastic bag closed and drop in bottom of 5 gallon bucket, when bucket is full, transfer all contents to large trash can with lid. Sanitize 5 gallon bucket and repeat.Guide to Buying & using a Chemical Toilet or Portable Toilet Chemical Toilets: use a chemically treated reservoir located directly below the toilet seat.

You can use this camping toilet bucket with portable toilet chemicals or gels to solidify waste and prevent odors. Or just simply toss a handful of kitty litter or other organic materials in after use. To cover the bucket toilet between uses, you can close the top of.

Portable toilets consist of an upper flushing tank and a lower waste tank that clip together and are separated by a sealed opening into the waste tank. I found this video very useful. There was a query about how often you need to empy it but could not see the reply. Can anyone tell me please,?
I’m not a dad I’m 14 I guess this video isn’t for me clicks off video
Excellent detailed video on a necessary subject! Really appreciate it. I’m thinking of making a fabric “cover” to put over the tank to disguise it as I carry it to a regular toilet to empty…
Too bad you haven’t used it for the review. Issues seem to pop up when you use it like leaking out of the ports when carrying by the handle or how it smells in your camper. How can you review an unused item? Thats just reading the companies advertising not a review, sorry man
Why you have to add music to the video.. im sure you checked the video and you noticed the sound condition wasnt that good and you adding music? ♂️
That hilarious vid is by the fit rv.good info dude.appreciate it.
Although I have a Coleman I think your tutorial is applicable. Will soon be using unit on an upcoming dry camping trip. Think it will work out well. Now I’m somewhat knowledgeable on cleaning it, thanks ‼️
So helpful, thank you so much! Am a trucker so am ordering one right after this video! Thanks again
Excellent video It doesn’t get better than this in how to actually clean it thank you for this we are going to buy one of this toilets for my father in law for emergencies
They did not use Chemicals or it would not have had that Oder
What’s up guys, I have a porta potty in the back of my kitchen sine I have no downstairs bathroom. Some people say it’s taboo to have a porta toilet there…anyway…I usually empty it every few days so it doesn’t fester. I when on a three week trip and forgot to empty the potty, ohhhhh
My girlfriend would shit if she saw that…a big ” No way am I sitting on that”…..lol…oh and thanks for the review!
Appreciate the honesty and being open about talking in regards to this
if you just add pine ocleen depends how many days your using it to overnight etc anyways if its warm wetaher i just shit in ahole outside but in winter its handy to have just outside tent and bring in to poo then put back outside the foxes love sniffing the shit
how does it feel to empty it and see the shit of your family members come out of the hole knowing that the shit you took yesterday was not that color so that must be ur dad who took it or something. and just makes you wonder about like you know?
Thanks for the video. Yours is the only portable toilet video I have found that shows people that they have to aggressively agitate the holding tank before dumping,to effectively remove all matter. Anyone can show the features of a product. Only a few make the effort to share effective cleaning tips. I am now confident my portable toilet will be cleaned thoroughly.
I have a question. If there is an adequate capacity, what is the max time I do not empty it, of course this is due to non availability of the suitable authorized area for emptying it.
Is that little hole actually big enough to suck down a large solid load? Seems suspect but maybe it works magic?
Thank you for demonstrating how to clean it. It helps a lot to your viewers. For those who are not yet aware how to use portable toilet, kindly check also in youtube. There are demonstrations how to use it and how to flush it. Mostly, companies that sell portable toilets post videos how to use it so that people will be entice to buy from them.
Thank you for taking the time to make this extremely informative video. You answered every question I had!
Now if there is one of this combined with a ass cleaing parts.
Use the white button when dumping it empty. Works more quickly.
Muchas gracias. Muy ilustrativo. Una manera divertida de hablar de la popó. Gracias!
Fuck all that shit. I much prefer the types with a bag of kitty litterjust tie the bag and throw it away
I have one of these. Emptied it out the 2nd time today. A tip for people who are concerned about the weight. The top is heavy when it is filled with flushing water so is the bottom. Don’t fill the flush water top up if you know you are emptying the bottom. Fill it up after you done putting it back together. I have a hard time snapping top and bottom together. With water in it it is even more difficult.
After I’ve done more often, I hope I get the hang of it. But yes I don’t seem to get it on easy. I start with the front but still there is a certain way the front has to be aligned. A bit tricky. Otherwise I love this toilet. NO SMELL I’ve Been using it at home to gt used to it. Soon I will travel and when it is hotter weather I see how it goes with smell. It’s a beauty.
A tip before you do a #2 fill some water in the bowl. It makes it easier to flush and avoid dirtying the bowl. I clean it up each time with some wet paper. I also try to avoid tossing all my toilet paper in there. Just the first most dirty paper and the other goes into a dodgy poop bag and in the trash. I will burn it whenever I can. Even the septic tank toilet paper does not decay and will make lumps.
PS: In another RV video I heard someone say they made the mistake of using the toilet when it was already full. They thought they just take the top off with the dirty deed in it and empty the bottom and flush later. Bad mistake. The seal that separates the top and bottom, that goes over the flush hole is on the bottom part. Don’t make the same mistake. Don’t take the top off with stuff in.
To make an easier #2 session… yes, open then close the valve… pump 2-3 times to get a wet base area (your solids excrement will slide down into holding tank MUCH easier when wet)… do your business… use tp sparingly, but effectively… open the valve… pump 2x or more as needed to drain all into bottom holding tank, then close the valve.
… done without a “wet primer” will have you needlessly pumping more than needed & wiping the plastic w/ more tp to remove the sticking waste from the plastic… graphic, but true…can turn into a VERY nasty experience… needlessly.
Thanks just got one for my kids when we go to the beach. Haven’t used it yet. Will let you know how it goes.
Much ado about #2. I ask guests to go before we leave. BUTT-sometimes you gotta go. Nice thing about being over 70-not that big a deal.
great information. Didn’t know about the blue vs green chemicalsthat was very helpful.
planning on getting one, very helpful instructional video, cheers
I want to use this in my cabin. I’m only there on weekends. How many weekends can I go before I should clean this?
I have a brother in law who is autistic and schizophrenic. My husband brought one of these toilets on a camping trip for us girls to pee in amd once a day we would drive to a campground with actual toilets to poop in. Leaving this toilet poop free. One morning we saw him headed for OUR pee toilet and was gonna take a shite in it!! So glad we caught him and stopped him. He would be cleaning his turd out you best believe.
Don’t forget to give us a thumbs up click that subscribe button and hit the bell
See you on our next adventure!
Great video. If you’ve ever changed a diaper you will have already gotten over the gross-out part. One small thing I would have added, you should show the closing of the flush valve before you shake it around. That could get ugly if you skip that step.
I live full time in a dry cabin. Watching you waste all of that water, SERIOUSLY hurt!
I have a portable toilet that’s been used camping and in the house when we had to have the sewer lines dug up and replaced. The biggest problem is making sure that it’s connected properly or you’ll sit down and topple over. The first portable toilet I had was when I drove a semi. I’m a woman and drove over the road. Some of the places that I parked at night weren’t the safest, so this let me stay inside in my cozy truck. (I also had a refrigerator/freezer, microwave, flat screen television and DVD player)
Can you put in a little bleach water after emptying the container to rinse it out?
For storing it for a long time after it was used like a camping trip, would you recommend any chemicals like bleach or anything? Im worried harsh chemicals would deteriorate the plastic.
Just used camco toilet for the first time this weekend. Worked great but the handle on the pump came of the first time I used it. Still functional though. I’m glad I bought it.
ARE THERE REPARTS FOR THIS MINE IS LEAKING AND NOT SURE WHERE
After you dump it do you put chemicals in it? Do you add water for flushing?
Just like the couple from the funny video, why dump in the house?… every house has a clean out (cap that allows the plumber to clean out the sewage line) on the outside of the house, you just have to look for it. Unscrew the cap and dump it in, no flushing and no stink in the house.
the problem with chemical toilets I’d the cost of the chemicals you not supposed to use conventional bleach as it destroys the seals good video thanks.
Hey there Mr. DAD REVEIWS. Itself enjoyed your home video. TOO BAD, IT’S DUE TO MY LANDLORD NOT ABLIDGING TO TO FIX MY PUMBING ISSUES. MY HUSBAND AND I MAY HAVE TO PURCHASE THIS BRILLYANT GADGE. May I add…it’s the darn shower that’s the worst issue. We have to dip the water, tissue paper etc, ect…out of the tub to use it. It’s going on #4 mo. The best thing that it comes and goes…THANK GOD! DO YOU HAVE ANY SUGGESTIONS!? IT WUD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED!!! HAVA BLESSED #1.
I think he mentioned to put 50 or 100 ml of rinse in the top tank, I assume you just fill the top tank to the top with fresh water??
I have just brought a porta pot to go travelling with so thank you for all this info as I didn’t know about any of it.
OR YOU CAN take a dump behind a bush w/ like we have done for like forever.
Would it be less stinky if you dumped at the station on the way out of the campground? Any experience with that? I’m considering getting one and think we’d use ours mostly for weekend outings in our popup, and for weeing only.
Instead of flushing over and over again and using toilet paper to wipe out remains, We use a spray bottle containing water and some deodoriser. Remains are easely removed by the force of the water jet, thus using much less water.
I live in a dry cabin. Just recently bought this toilet. I found that using a liquid car wax in the bowl really helps keep it clean.
I’ve been using one for years. Yes it is a little unpleasant to dump, but it really isn’t a big deal if you don’t let it go too long.
I’ve used a similar unit for years. Not a big deal to clean though there is a little odor. I use Porta-Paks to deal with the odor and it works fine. I dump the waste in my bathroom toilet, fill the tank with water from the bathtub, swish it and dump that in the toilet. So, two flushes and I’m done. I take the unit outside and hose it off (my grandsons “miss”), wipe it down and I’m done.
Not sure why the comments say that the guy is reviewing something that he has not used. He clearly said he had it in his RV for a while. Before reviewing it he cleaned it out He just hasn’t use the bleach cleaners before which he was sharing his knowledge about. I’m just confused by the huge number of comments saying this.
Ty, good review only comments loose the music while you’re talking, it is very distracting
Dumb me bought a house with only one bathroom and a house full of girls (one with a baby pressing on her bladder)! Well….after tonight’s huge plumbing issue leaving us toilet-less until the plumber returns tomorrow…. I’m buying one of these tonight.
We have a potty tent we keep our in, it’s great for changing and children, and if you’re far from the facilities…..
Helpful video!
(NOTE: DO NOT dump the camping potty with feminine products into a toilet on a septic, preferably not at all.)
I’m gay so I don’t have to worry about any lady cooties.:P But seriously, doesn’t it smell like hell when you are dumping it? Does it stink up the whole house?
Good video. We just bought the sister unit 335 which says also to add “the correct dose of flush water tank additive [where available]” to the flush tank. Of course I have to call Thetford to find out specifically what they meant by that… crazy that companies can’t print a manual with specific instructions! And does “where available” mean you can skip this step like you have here?
Thanks for the video. I’m on rinse 7 or 8 and still have little bits. I did notice your portable toilet has a nice smooth bottom and sides. In other words, there’s nothing much to stop the flow. Mine has so many crevices for freaking bits to cling on to. So did the previous one I returned.
But lesson learned, I will definitely use way more water next time. I did this time and it was better than my first experience.
Thanks
Nick
interesting. i wish my parents have this in the car so i can pee
I bought the 365 from you and there was no instructions in the box So this video is helpful and now I can use it, thanks for posting the video.
So very informative thank you best video regarding these toilets!
Looks like I’m <=! out of luck. I am chemically injured ; I can’t around chemicals…
Good video but you didn’t show the filler trap clearly so I don;t know what you mean, it didn;t seem to have a pipe or tube for the liquid to enter without spillage.
camping “potties” have come a very long way from my rv days. i’m kinda thinking this device might be okay for the missus…ever since she’s had her gallbladder out, every time is, is an “uh-oh” time…good review, and we’ll see you sometime, out on the trails…
Does your junk clear the front of the bowl? Is it comfortable for the average adult?
OMG DO NOT DUMP SANITARY NAPKINS DOWN YOUR HOMES DRAIN!!!!! Lol might be fine for cassette but not home Wc
If the bottom tank is only, say 1/4 full, can you relocate to a new campsite or should you empty first? Does the trap gate seal well enough for that?
I’ll rather not shit and store. I’ll shit in a bag and throw it out right away.
i got a pretty cheap camping toilet made by some company called igloo. its a lot more square and its not very comfortable. also, the hole for cleaning it is way too small.
Very helpful video, explained it all to me, I’m moving on to a narrowboat which has a Porta Potti and this was a great tutorial!
Line on mine came off where it feeds water into bowl. How do I get at that to put it back on please? Thank you.
John, is the Porta Potti 335 just as good as the slightly more expensive Model 365? Thanks, mate… Dan
Good Video, thanks very well thought out and for some a tricky subject but you nailed it!
I found it very helpful prior to use, thank you.
Well done! As a newby to all of this you have answered all of the basic questions i had. I appreciate your expertise and advice!
My Time was Very Well Spent! watching your most Informative Lesson. Thank-U for being so DETAILED:O) I give You 10 THUMBS-UP. TFS
What kind of cleaner should i buy at Walmart to clean my Thetford with? Is scrubbing bubbles good and won’t crack the rubber seals?
Nice demo of proper cleaning. Learned new things for max clean.
I bought a second hand portable toilet, not a Thetford, but a similar copy with no instructions. Very helpful thank you!
Will feces get stuck in the tube or corners of the tank when attempting to empty it?
Great video about a not so pleasant subject you handled it very well…thanks!
Thank you for the video. It’s difficult to find the info how to use it in real life. Good luck.
Too much work. just wrap a bucket attach with a toilet seat and a disposable bag, poop, close the bag and dispose it.
Thank you!!! That was my main concern about all this living in a van thing. Everyone else shows basically how they decorate their vans LOL first things first.
Oh I ran across a video about the tank smell, I use the geo method. 1/2 cup of dawn and calgon water softener with a half gallon of water
If anyone knows, I need to replace the pump bellows on my Sears Pak-A-Potti 2 Model #25973621, part #12814. I can only find Thetford bellows. Do any of them fit my potty and if so, which one?
Thanks for this excellent video! I just bought a sailboat with a Thetford Porta Potti 365. My only question you didn’t answer was whether the Porta Potti can be connected to a marine pump out station. It is illegal to walk the tank to the restroom and empty it in the toilet at my marina. The marina personnel are encouraging but don’t really have answers. Have you ever seen this done with a Thetford Porta Potti?
Excellent video for people like me who will be using a porta-potti for the first time soon. Many thanks for posting.
when you say it does have a chemical smell is that only when using it or all the time? I am doing a DIY sprinter van camper conversion and i am wondering if while im driving and things are sloshing about if the whole camper will start to smell. thanks
dude, just buy $5. bucket at home depot and some bags. fuck all that shit…..
Thanks for posting this, my wife was camping with a couple kids and I hadn’t had a chance to look over the new potty she bought, so your video helped me walk her through things over the phone
What a complete waste of time watching this useless piece of crap, Did not even bother to show how it works or how to use it. He could have just as well just filled up a bucket with water and dump it out as basically that is what he did and nothing about the actual toilet itself or how to use it. Also I had to put the volume on my television on it’s highest setting because I could not hear anything he was saying. I just wish he would redo this video and do it correctly.
What a waste of 5 min. (waste pun intended)
“hi, im here to review this toilet that I haven’t actually used yet and will only do so in an emergency”
How nasty is it to actually empty it? I’m interested in this for camping, but no one shows how it actually is with human waste inside.
How wonderful to discover this very informative video. I’ve just bought a Mercedes Campervan, it came complete with Porta Potti. But no instructions. With this video now seen a couple of times, I’m feeling more confident about the preparation and use of this vital bit of gear. My only remaining problem is where to find the chemicals that I need. However I think another Google search will solve this problem.
Thank you so much for the video, I have copied the utube address onto my laptop to that I can refer to it; should I need to, in the future.
Yours very gratefully Paul Crick-Lyon [email protected]
This has to be the best information ever. Thank you SO much. I went to the Thetford site and their information was not at all comparable to yours, simply not as good and perhaps they need to know that. I am also grateful for your explanation about the toilet paper. Who Knew? it’s a sore spot in this family about emptying the thing anyway but you may have even bought some domestic harmony back by lessening the unpleasantness we have experienced.
Coleman Toilet Paper For Disintergrates rapidly to prevent clogs.
Most houses have a sewer clean out outside the house (where the houses sewer connects to the municipal system) or at the septic tank on a septic system, just dump the cassette there and avoid dragging the thing into your house.
Excellent, everything I wanted to ask, answered. Thank you for the video
Thanks. The directions were all gibberish to me. I am much more of a visual learner so this was super helpful.
Yes Water was important when I had one in my van. It was wonderful and I would never want compost when I can use these with the proper chemicals
Buddy, please next time, use clean stuff to show demo’s. This is disgusting to see uncleaned being shown… thank you.
Looking into a small houseboat that has this. You answered my questions! Thanks!
Best video ever on this subject. Plus you just saved me a small fortune. I was planning on buying a camper with all the extras. Now I am just going to stay at a Marriott or Hilton. This whole camping thing is just too much trouble for the little bit of pleasure it affords one.Plus, no room service. Great video.
I’d recommend going to a dry system. I use a 5 gal bucket and luggable loo lid that I found at Academy sports, absorbent powder, and trashbags. Once you do your business, pull the bag and trash it. It took me one time to forget to release the pressure created by warm climate in that holding tank to realize I never wanted to deal with a wet setup like this again.
I use my set up in a cargo trailer camper.
So…….do you need to open the trapdoor to flush or just work the pump? Otherwise very informative, I didn’t realize they would need to be dumped so often.
Great
I am am handicapped
I would request kindly add to preser water
you may not want to title your video as a review if you haven’t used the product yet. folks are looking for your experience using the product.:) thanks
I’ve watched 5 or 6 reviews. All were of toilets that have never been used. That’s not a review, it’s a box opening.
I’m a homeowner. We have a portable toilet in our house as a temporary 2nd bathroom. We empty the waste tank in our outside plumbing cleanout. It is a 4 inch cleanout. It works cause it goes directly in the sewer. This saves us from dumping it out in our toilet. This has been fantastic for us. Also I rinse out the tank with our garden hose and drain it again in our cleanout. It works for us! Great video.
Found this helpful. Especially about the toilet paper. I didn’t even think about that.
Thanks for this video very helpful but NO to ‘flushable’ wipes!! They don’t break down, the scourge of sewers…
https://www.sydneywater.com.au/SW/about-us/our-publications/Media/accc-investigation/index.htm
You have to put biodegradable enzyme tablet to liquify and deodorize the waste.
Thank you so very much for this very informative video. Even 3 years after posting it it is still usefull:)
Do I need chemicals if I only pee in the toilet? Is the water enough?
You don’t need that thing on your boat, just sit your ass on the corner and toss your shit to the ocean. Feed those fish
My pull thing was very hard to pull even with a pair of pliers
Off topic, but I’m a bit disappointed that more women aren’t watching these videos. We need to know more about tools, camping gear, electronics, and other things as well. Maybe it’s because it seems to be more tailored for men? I don’t know.
thank you, you answered all the questions i had about using a chemical toilette. Nice and simple.
I have a portie potti in my tourer caraven and the flusher has stopped working. Last season it made a bit of a racket when you pushed it, but it worked. This season nothing happens when i press it. i have checked and cleaned the pipes no blockages but seem to be getting no power. Have you any ideas of what this could be or how i can try to fix it? All help appreciated.
The music overpowered the informational facts you was stating
Thanks for the review. I’m checking into portable toilets and this is a best-seller on Amazon. I like the price ($63 for this model). I see the Thetford Curve is a top-of-the-line model, but the issues reviewers had with the battery pack/electric flush mechanism failing are concerning. This is much more economical and has similar features, just with a manual flush mechanism.
Just one question whats the problem with your loo you are using to dump into…Looks like you have a major blockage problem…whats the issue….
Disolvable toilet paper starts dissolving as soon as it touches your skin.
I’m in the throes of having my bathroom and kitchen extended, so bought the Qube 165 for the period when the mains toilet will be out of use. The instructions that came with the Qube are good but they left several unanswered questions, so I’m delighted to find this comprehensive video. Thank you so much for producing it. Every single one of my questions have been answered. Amazon UK can supply 1.5L bottles of the Pink and Blue chemicals for around £15 for the two!
What is the blue additive that does not freeze? I’d like to keep my portable chemical toilet outside and if it is below freezing I’d still like to be able to use it. Some say gatoraide doesn’t freeze. I tried that and it froze up. I would try a salt water mix too or anti freeze or even windshield wiper fluid if I thought it would help. I am not finding answers.
I have a 235 and the aperture is too small front to back at 23″. Is there one with a larger aperture? 29″ is ideal. The overall height needs to be no more than 12″ so it will fit under the bed.
Wow, I just ran into your channel looking for this kind of stuff. I like your attitude it’s very refreshing. Thanks Mr Dad
Best way to empty it is to find an RV dump point on the way home, most GPS units have POIs with dump points so they are easy to find.
Thanks for making a ”crappy” video on portable toilets. been lookin to buy one for our popup
Thank you for the information. Is for my room in the house. I have problems walking and going to far away to the toilet. I buy this one and is been really a lifesaver. Your explanation of the chemical is excellent, thank you. And really don’t smell at all, even when you go to empty it, the chemical, make the work and don’t smell, thank you
I think if I had a van and had to drive real far for several hours I’d use this for peeing only. Also for family members only. No pooping is allowed. I can’t deal with cleaning out poop
U could have showed us the toilet without any buisness flushing
